A curious facade seen in Osaka. You can almost see the building behind it.

Hikone shopping streets.
Has a distinct 1980s vibe.
And no, there isn't a straight line in the joint.

Spent a couple of days in Hikone. It's famous for having a castle.
It sits on the edge of Lake Biwa, the largest in Japan.
There's also an old merchant quarter with a mix of architectural styles. Not quite on a par with Sasayama, but entertaining enough.
Worth a visit, though I'd say you'd struggle to find a full day's worth of things to do. Unless queuing is your thing - it was over an hour to stand in line to get inside the keep.

One year, when coming into Kansai International, my checked suitcase arrived wrapped in clear plastic with a "damaged in transit" sticker on it. I took it to the nearest customs officer, explained what had happened and asked if they could "break the seal" in case someone had inserted something nasty inside.
Case was given a good sniff by Custom-kun, opened carefully and inspected by the customs officer. It was all clear.
A member of staff then came over, apologizing profusely for the inconvenience, and offered to replace the suitcase. I was a little taken aback, but my sense of fair play wouldn't let me accept the offer. After all, it wasn't Kansai who had damaged it, but some muppet between Heathrow and the connecting flight at CDG. I was, however, exceptionally grateful to them.
Anyway, since it opened in 1994, Kansai International hasn't lost a single piece of customer luggage. If you can duck the shit show at Tokyo's airports, fly via Osaka. I've always found it so much less stressful than Haneda or Narita.

The bell began to ring on the level crossing. I looked around and saw the barriers slowly lowering. A few meters away the yellow train prepared to leave the platform.
Quick!
A brisk pace and I was in position. Small adjustments as the train moved slowly past, then
>snap<
One shot. That was all it took.
As I walked back to Mrs H, pride at my work writ large in a wide smile, Mrs H asked if I was developing a fixation with trains.

Just mucking about with some random thing we got from a sushi place that's been sitting on the kitchen table for well past its sell-by date.

I liked my Nokia Banana phone. Sadly it isn't compatible with the local networks, otherwise I'd be using it (it still works).
The camera on my iPhone SE is definitely sub-par compared to even Mrs H's iPhone 11. Might be why I'm developing a soft spot for it.
Got a Nokia 7230 as a point and shoot camera

Lovely long walk to the Kurasuhara Reservoir today.
Nice and sunny, but not too hot (about 22C). Did about 15km round trip, which was energizing.
Met a few friendly people along the way, a couple of not-so.
The reservoir is part of Kobe's water supply, and held back by a dam first completed in 1905 (I think).
Tumblr media
It's a gorgeous walm around the reservoir, mostly shielded by trees and with plenty of benches to pause and contemplate life, the universe, everything.

Hiyodorigoe Station on the Arima line is probably the sweet spot for getting there by public transport.
Tumblr media
I'll be heading there again in the autumn as I reckon there should be a fair few displays from the maples and acres I saw.

Much excitement in the valley tonight. Some wag decided to have a rather large fire right next to the bamboo wood.
Two fire engines and half an hour later and it looks like the crews are damping down.
Sweeney-san attended. Can't confirm, but may have heard ズボンを履いてください、あなたは逮捕されています。:S
