I only liked the scene in the beginning of the movie where Akshay Kumar exposes a fake peer/priest/baba who beats a women and claims that she is possessed by ghost. Such violence against women, misogyny and customs are very common in South Asia.
Everything else has been said by @the-fifth-marauder101 .

So this year (I believe like not even a week ago) a movie called Laxmii came out on, I believe, both Netflix and Disney plus (meaning it is licensed by Disney, I think it was made by Fox as well)
It stars Akshay Kumar, a very popular Indian actor who is also cishet. Why is this important? We’ll get to that.
It’s a Bollywood (Indian) movie that’s marketed as a Horror Comedy.
Here’s the first red flag, before the movie even came out it was called Laxmii Bomb. Lakshmi is a Hindu Goddess and is the Goddess of Wealth and Beauty, among other things. Naturally, people in India were outraged at the fact that her name was tied to the word bomb, implying death, destruction, and weaponry. The studio eventually changed the name, but it doesn’t erase the fact that they were still extremely disrespectful to a Hindu Goddess.
The movie’s plot revolves around a couple (who are eloped because the husband is Muslim and the wife was Hindu) who are visiting the wife’s parents for the first time in three years. The husband – the male protagonist played by Akshay Kumar – does not believe in ghosts.
The second red flag to this movie (that isn’t too important to the overall message of this post but still something I wanted to bring up) is that there is a song in this movie that takes place in Dubai. It is slightly sexualized as some Bollywood pop songs happen to be. (For those who are not familiar with Bollywood, every movie is like a musical with 6 to 7 songs that are solely still in every film to help with marketing. Bollywood doesn’t make merch they make songs,  they usually play on the radio and/or television  in order to promote the movie.)
However, in more than 2 scenes, the husband (who is Muslim) wears the traditional male Arab clothing, which is a long tunic, a sleeveless cloak, and a distinctive headcloth.
Might I remind you that the actor is an Indian famous actor – definitely not of Arab nationality, and more importantly not a Muslim so we should let it slide? (No we should not but go off I guess) Bollywood does not have a lack of Muslims, and operates in a country that is extremely diverse, and being such a major film industry gives them the opportunity to make proper casting decisions – and yet, how are they still managing to do the exact opposite?
But, back to the plot.
There’s an empty lot of land next to the wife’s parents’ house that is haunted by a ghost. Throughout the course of the first hour of the movie, the audience is tuned to believe that the ghost is female.
It is then revealed (in the last 45 minutes or so) that the ghost is Transgender.
