For the record, I think Caravan (the F:NV minigame) is actually a perfectly good game, I enjoyed it.
I mean, it *direly* needs a tutorial, but once you work it out, it's actually really good.

I'm generally pretty late to fandoms, so it's fun, encouraging, and gratifying when I see someone join even later than I and I can see them process the fandom brainrot. Please, give me all your hot takes, even if I'm one of, like, three people still paying attention to the tag!

In Fallout: New Vegas, I just wish there was a dialogue option when fighting Legate Lanius when he's like "Who are you to come before me..." the Courier can respond
"I'm a Courier. My job to make sure people get what's coming to them."

...ok, but imagine if we had the option to actually tell people that the gods aren't real in Deadfire.
like. it doesn't really have to change anything. actually, I kind of would have loved having that option and having it be completely useless. no one believes you. you are a Cassandra-like prophet, possessed by one god and chasing another, telling everyone you come across that those entities are not what they seem, and no one will listen to you until it's too late

Due to a second wave of spam bots (now I'm certain that's what they are) commenting on my fiction, my latest work, Dragon Age Origins/Pillars Of Eternity crossover party banter can now only be commented on by registered users. My apologies to anyone without an account reading my work, but I have to look out for myself.

It's occurred to me that the other fanfic author is probably a person just like me, so they're probably having the exact same reaction.
When I read a fanfic I like, the author becomes a mini celebrity to me. So when an author with a work I like kudos’ or comments on my own fanfic I just-

It's stuck in my head, so I want to talk about why I stopped playing Dragon Age II
Now, I'm not saying this is a complete dealbreaker or that I won't go back at some point, but it was enough that it felt too bad to continue at the time. Act II spoilers ahead.
So, at the end of Act I, Bethany was dragged off to the Circle, which really undercut what I was hoping would be a moment of triumph. On it's own, not much, but it comes up later.
Then I got to the side quest to rescue some kid from demons in the fade. I go through the mission with Anders/Justice, Avaline, and Merril. Then a demon charms Avaline into betraying me with a vision of her dead husband, which also felt kind of bitter. On the one hand, it was no doubt a haymaker to a sore spot to her, but it still felt a little out of character, considering a big part of her character is her integrity.
Then it's Merril's turn, and she literally betrays the party for power. It wasn't even a reference to anything sensitive, or any kind of moral choice, even if you did believe the demon. The choice was almost cartoonishly evil. I had really liked Merril up until that point, was even thinking of romancing her, so that *really* hurt.
Then the fade thing ends, and both Avaline and Merril are standing there. Avaline does profusely apologise, at least, but Merril tries to dodge the subject. Then the game seems to pretend everyone just goes home. No option to punish Merril for her treason. I took the side quest to talk about it later, and at least then you get a profuse apology, but it didn't really address how I was supposed to fight alongside someone who made that choice. Nor does Merril make any further attempts at reconciliation, which were very much warranted given the situation.
Then I go to get an apology from Avaline, and she starts talking about controls on mages, as if Hawke's sister wasn't in a glorified prison. Avaline was my favourite character up until that point, and my only tank, so that was a massive gut punch. Then, as if that didn't happen, she asks me to give a flower to another guard. That was the tipping point.
I ended up looking up the quest on the wiki, and found the only way to prevent your companions being charmed is to go through without them. Worse, for half the companions, the reasons for betrayal are incredibly selfish.
So the game would be pretty difficult for me to play when half of the companions, people who you're supposed to fight alongside, develop a relationship with, and experience the story of, will betray Hawke for some pretty mundane reasons. How am I supposed to respect them in that light? It's not the first CRPG treason I've seen, but others, traitors were being lied to, or had a metaphorical knife to their throat, or didn't understand the situation. Not just a plain bribe.
I *want* to like CRPGs, but so many of them are so damn dark.

If women can be so tall, buff, and gorgeous, then why don't you present me with some photographic evidence, huh, bleeding wokeflakes? Why don't you explain to me what a female super soldier would look like and how badass they'd be in detail, maybe even with artwork, huh, huh? If Massive, Brawny Women are so lovely, why won't one pick me up and cradle me like a baby in their arms!?!?!? CHECKMATE SOYLIBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: I've heard a lot of other people are being attacked with similar comments, and after one commenter mentioned that the comments I recieved didn't really match up with what I wrote, it's most likely a bot. I ponder what kind of hateful loser has nothing better to do with their time, but I digress. I'll be reporting both comments as spam.
Two people have just accused me of using generative AI to write my latest work.
I need someone else's eyes on this situation, because I'm not sure what to do.
Like a lot of people, I thoroughly enjoy CRPG party banter. So I started something of an unoffical ongoing project where I take two CRPGs I like, and write what the party banter would be like if there was a crossover. A few days ago, I published my latest work in that project, featuring Dragon Age Origins and Pillars Of Eternity. It was a long work months in the making, with over 15k words total, and it took me a lot of effort.
Today I wake up to two comments.
"Sudowrite AI strikes again, sucking the life out of yet another story."
"KoboldAI could learn a thing or two about creativity. This is just lazy."
I wasn't really sure this was my best work, I'm a little less familiar with Dragon Age compared to other CRPGs, and it's been a while since I've played Pillars Of Eternity. But I put a lot of work into my writing, and I was still proud of what I'd written. Reading those comments, implying that my work lacks life and creativity, hurts. Badly. And I'm not sure what to do.
On the one hand, I empathize with concerns about AI generated content in sites like this. There's every chance these accusations were made in good faith, in which case ignoring or retaliating against them would cost me a chance for constructive discussion. I do at least have some evidence to suggest my work isn't AI generated in that my first works in my project are timestamped years before the advent of AI.
On the other hand, both of those comments came from guests, and didn't directly refer to anything I'd written, so the chance they came from trolls is also very real, in which case... I'm still not sure what to do. Most people say to simply not engage them, but I still wonder if that's the most productive approach. I'm considering enacting a policy on my work that only registered users can comment, but knowing how long it takes for a user to get registered, I'm not sure I want to deny more people the chance to engage.
I'm also concerned about the quality of my work. Of course I think it's good, but I'm obviously biased. I want my work to be the best it can be, and sometimes that means accepting criticism. If my work really lacks creativity, I want to know so I can improve.
So, if anyone has a moment, I'd appreciate them having a look at my work and the comments, or suggesting what I should do. I'm at something of a loss.

pillars of eternity ask! 1, 9, 16 for alteia :)
1. What is your watcher's class? How does it relate to their backstory?
Alteia is a wizard. Her parents were both mariners, and raised her on a million stories of exotic magical wonders, leading her to develop an ambition of working in a magic shop (which would much later cause an interesting interaction with Fassina). She studied magic formally so as to know what she would sell, and perhaps make some stock herself. Sadly, while she was a skilled wizard, she wasn’t much of a businesswoman, and her shop couldn’t make ends meet. After it went down, she headed north to Gilded Vale, seeking somewhere where her magic would be in higher demand.
9. Who are your watcher's favourite companions?
She’s very close with all the companions (Durance excluded), enough that “favourites” would be a very difficult question for her to answer. She is very close with Aloth, being a fellow wizard, and she is smitten with Pallegina. She’s also close with Sagani, both being from colder climes and with an appreciation for fluffy little foxes. She’s very much fond of Ydwin, the intellectuals from the White having much in common, and ends up in a romantic relationship with Maia.
16. How did your watcher react to the reveal that the gods were created by engwithans?
A whirlwind of emotions, but chief among them a relief that everything made sense. Being Godlike, the gods had affected every moment of her life, and while she hoped for some answers when the gods started talking to her, she was only further vexed. The reveal answered so many questions for her: Why Thaos did what he did, why the gods were so infamously fickle, what Thaos showed Lady Webb in her last moments, why the Glanfathans were ordered to protect engwithan sites, why the Leaden Key hated animancy so much, what was tearing at her past self so much, among others. While she had briefly been a devout Hylean, her faith was very much shaken by Hylea’s dismissal of Pallegina, so she wasn’t terribly invested in the gods. When she returned to the surface, she decided to subtly restart Iovara’s work; she knew outright claiming what she had found beneath Breith Eaman wouldn’t be believed, but she started to encourage animancy and unorthodox lines of thinking.

"Fiction can show you a different world. It can take you somewhere you've never been. Once you've visited other worlds, like those who ate fairy fruit, you can never be entirely content with the world that you grew up in. Discontent is a good thing: discontented people can modify and improve their worlds, leave them better, leave them different."
