I will not be doing the final day of my Japanese language challenge because today kind of got away from me and I only remembered said challenge right when it's nearly nine pm. My bad.
But this was actually a lot of fun. I came across a ton of games, manga, and YouTube channels that I am dying to talk about more in depth and nothing you can can stop me.

Saw someone (can't remember for the life of me who) making monthly posts about what Japanese show they'd watched that month and scoring them and I thought that would be a fun thing to do. I watch so much TV. I have no life.
And then I realised it's all bloody anime and the weird stuff too so I might keep this to myself.

Thanks to a really obscure horror manga I now know the Japanese word for "A woman in STEM".
(It's リケジョ btw)

Day six of my Japanese language challenge is here. Only one day to go.
1) Play an hour of a video game.
I played Cat Quest today and, no, I didn't misspell Stardew Valley. Cat Quest is a great game for newbs. The language used is very beginner friendly and the conversations are often pretty short. Not to mention if you can't fully understand what a character is telling you they want, there's always a big old arrow pointing you in the right direction. The gameplay itself is also fairly simple. Very addicting too. God, I love this game.
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
I think the most accurate depiction of owning a cat that Chi's Sweet Home has shown is in the chapter I just read where Chi has no interest in playing with her new toys and instead attacks the bag they came in.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
Just watched a very basic beginner video designed for listening practice.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
I read Naku Onna which was the retelling of La Llorona, a very tragic Mexican ghost story. I'm actually surprised such a dark legend was featured on the site among all the cute and bright pictures of animals and smiling families.
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
Made post that said "I don't want romance. I want ice cream." It's a motto I live by. It also dawns on me that I still haven't filled my profile in. Need to work on that.

As both a gamer and a learner of Japanese, I have combined the two and am trying to play as many games as I can find in said language. Only problem is my Steam library is vast due to never being able to pass up a sale. Its been very tedious going through all the games seeing which have Japanese language options so I was super happy when I found this site that allows you to filter games via language. And other things like tags and features but I most likely the language bit. Some of the games it turns out I have with Japanese language options was pretty surprising and I can't wait to check them out.

The site I download a lot of my manga in Japanese from often doesn't have descriptions telling you what the manga is actually about. A lot of the times all you get is a cover image and a few tags and often they don't even have much of those. I've downloaded several manga where all I know about them is that they're horrors. Started reading one today and there was cannibalism of a corpse on page two. Weird. That seems more like a page twelve thing.

Day five of the one week Japanese challenge is here. Getting close to the end. I've actually really gotten into playing games and reading manga every day. It's great I can do that and call it studying.
1) Play an hour of a video game.
Mostly hung around the mines today. Stabbed some slimes. Forgot Hailey's birthday. Well, she insulted my clothes so she deserved it.
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
Read some Chi's Sweet Home and a few pages of a new horror manga I got. It's kanji with no furigana so it's taking me a while. You do not want to know how long it took me to read the first page.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
Just me head banging to nursery rhymes again.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
Read Mekishiko no Inu. It's about the xolo, an ancient breed of hairless dog. It was a lot more fun to read than that story about peanuts I checked out yesterday. I love doggies. I mean, I like salted peanuts but not enough to read a book about them, regardless of how short.
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
I just wrote "It's Stardew Valley time!" and added a picture of me doing a thumbs up with a picture of the Stardew Valley page on my Steam account.

We're on day four of the Japanese language challenge. I am tired.
1) Play an hour of a video game.
Free time in class meant game time for me today. Played Pokemon and leveled the hell out of my Pidgey when I misplaced my way. So much tall grass. So many Weedles. The forest was like five pixels big how did I get lost?!
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
I was going to read Zekkyou Gakkyuu but I got tired two pages in and read some less strenuous Chi's Sweet Home instead.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
I found the official channel for the Japanese dub of Bluey. It has two minute clips as well as a few entire episodes. I watched the episode where Muffin is sleep deprived but the way she acted makes me wonder if her parents didn't sneak some Vodka into her sippy cup.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
I read Rakkasei wa omoshiroi. That means Peanuts are interesting. It was about how peanuts grow. Interesting might not be the word I would have used...
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
Had a really crappy and dysphoric day. That's what I made a post about. I now know the word for gender dysphoria. It's 性別違和/Seibetsuiwa.

It's day three of my one week Japanese challenge. I am tired.
1) Play an hour of a video game.
I completely owned in my first festival in Stardew Valley. I am king of the egg hunt! And I wear the hat I won everywhere to mock the literal children I beat to get it.
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
Been reading Chi's Sweet Home but it's way too easy and I wanted a bit of a challenge. Today I read some Zekkyou Gakkyuu, a shoujo horror anthology, instead. It's difficult enough to give me a challenge but easy enough that I'm not lost. I may not understand everything that's being said but at least I get the gist of it. I will read more of Chi because it was bloody adorable but it was way too easy to the point that I didn't feel I was getting much out of it. Now I'm reading stories about young girls being terrorised by monsters. Cool.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
I'm still watching nursery rhyme videos. Yeah, I should probably try something else.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
I read Yama ni Ikimashita which is about a dog going camping in the mountains. The past couple of books I was quiet pleased with myself because I knew all the words and didn't have to look up a thing. Then Yama ni Ikimashita comes along with several strange words how dare you.
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
I just whined about being too busy to watch Heartstopper.

Day two of my one week Japanese language challenge. Let's goooooo!
1) Play an hour of a video game.
Still addicted to Stardew Valley. My heart melted when Vincent called me oniichan. Don't worry, Vincent, I'll be your real oniichan soon enough. I mean I'm gonna fuck your brother.
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
I think Chi's Sweet Home is a little too easy. I can read several chapters in minutes. There's this other one I want to read tomorrow that's basically a kids horror anthology. Think Goosebumps but in manga form. Might give that one a try tomorrow.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
I highly recommend a YouTube channel called Super Simple 日本語. I'm using it to learn a bunch of nursery rhymes in Japanese. Currently headbanging to a song about a guy making a pizza. Thanks to this two minute song I now know the verbs 塗る and 回す.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
Read Haha no Hi in which two kids buy their mom a mother's day present.
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
Made a post saying I'd been watching a lot of Dungeon Meshi lately and that I want to read the manga next. I will definitely not be reading it in Japanese.

The urge to get really hammered and try speaking in Japanese on HelloTalk is strong. I'm gonna need more booze.

The first day of my personalised week long Japanese language challenge is done.
1) Play an hour of a video game.
I may have played more than just an an hour of Stardew Valley. I couldn't help it, man. It's one of those games that when you start you can't stop and the next thing you know it's five days later, your wife's left you and you can't even remember your name anymore.
2) Read a chapter of a manga.
Read a few chapters of Chi's Sweet Home and it is by far one of the better manga out there to read for beginners. It's centered around a kitten and her family and the every day shenanigans they get up to. It's very easy to fellow and there aren't massive walls of text every other page like some series. I plan on reading more and making a more in depth post on it.
3) Watch a video on YouTube with no English subtitles.
I may have just watched a bunch of nursery rhyme videos. Honestly, not a bad way to learn. They're catchy and simple.
4) Read a graded reader/book aimed at young children.
One of my favourite graded reader sites is tadoku.org. They go from level zero to five with zero being the easiest. Today  I decided to upgrade from zero to one and read a short story called Boku no Kazoku. It's about a teddy bear and his family and it was hecking adorable.
5) Make a post on HelloTalk.
Made a simple post saying I had school tomorrow and about how old I am (I'm a  thirty year old student help) and no one has corrected it yet so I'm assuming it was right. People on HelloTalk are usually pretty quick about correcting mistakes. It's why I like it so much.

There's a new high school bl in town! It's titled Kaze to sharin. Mukai is a top student who uses a wheelchair. Hiyori is a troubled student with bad grades who gets assigned Mukai's helper at school.
Only three chapters are out so far, but it seems interesting and there aren't that many bls featuring disabled characters. I hope it becomes a success and gets a drama adaptation!
Text on the cover:
I wanted this life of mine that doesn't even allow me to dream to end as soon as possible Until I met him that is
The worst troublemaker in school and the top student in a wheelchair
A youth bl woven by two people who had nowhere to belong in

Started watching Dungeon Meshi and it amuses me greatly that Laios named his sword Kensuke. This is because I recently learned that "ken" means "sword" in Japanese. He might as well have named it Swordy McSwordson.
