One of Trigun Maximum's strengths really is the scene transitions, especially in volumes 6 and 7. They're so cinematic.
Anyway, I was skimming through Vol. 6 once more and wanted to share these panels and ramble a little about them.
Elendira says 'I've got my hopes set on you, Vash the Stampede' and as if responding to that call, Vash appears in the next page. The haze from one panel somewhat matches the clouds in the panel after. But this image of Vash is his reflection at an unusual angle in a mirrored surface, and he's sweating and not really in the best mindset.
Here is a man who has understood his responsibility in July, lost two of his friends, has a drinking problem and accidentally revealed to the public what he is capable of in the previous town. Before the chapter dives into Vash's childhood and the meat of this arc, we catch Vash in a semi-private moment. This man is on a journey (with Wolfwood), but in a instance of not-much-happening until he and Wolfwood reach the city's ship, he pauses and looks down at his own reflection. What does he see when he sees himself?
This man is the only card in the deck who can defeat Knives.

being in your early twenties is like [grocery shopping alone] [having instant noodles for dinner] [remembering random details about that one friend you haven't spoken to in five years] [feeling overwhelming guilt for every purchase that isn't strictly "necessary"] [having midday naps] [finding out through facebook that the girl who was mean to you in high school has a husband and a baby] [falling a little in love with every stranger on public transport] [pretending you're not afraid of being alone] [wondering when you'll feel like a fully realized person] [listening to bands you liked in middle school] [blinking and it's suddenly december] [failing to imagine yourself ten years from now] [feeling like you're running out of time]

constantly plagued by thoughts of the vampire in the waiting room biting Al and no-one even noticing because as Sam says: he acts and looks like one already.
also the very real possibility of some gut wrenching angst and body horror supported by the previously seen moments of hysteria Al excperiences when anything supernatural is brought up, like for excample the pharao's curse, bigfoot, the Bermuda triangle...
