hi hi! i forget if i've asked this before but when reading your byf, what's "double book keeping delusions"? i've tried looking it up but couldn't find anything :[

delusional self-awareness. the knowledge that you as a psychotic person dont share the same reality as other people. the knowledge that you are delusional and your lived reality doesnt always make sense and you are alone in experiencing it

there's this idea that to truly be delusional you cant be aware whatsoever that you're alone in your reality. you HAVE to be screaming at everyone the world is ending because you dont know they arent part of it. that isnt true at all and this idea prevents delusional people from seeking community or help because they dont even know they "count".

the awareness is called double bookkeeping. you're keeping track of the shared social Reality and your own personal reality, aware and living in both

i would link my best double bookkeeping source here but its lost in my archive atm. i'll edit if i find it. have this for now

i wanna say fuck you to anyone who shame disabled, chronically ill & neurodivergent people, especially homebound folks, for "spending too much time on their phone/on the internet/etc." when it's the only (Somewhat) accessible way for them to experience the world. many people don't get to get out much even if they want to because of their disabilities. shaming someone for trying to connect with the world, make friends and engage with hobbies in ways that are accessible to them is beyond cruel and unnecessary

look, i get it. youve been hurt by humans, and feel the need to react defensively to them. believe me, i know. ive been hurt by humans too, again and again and again. its just a part of living. but you (general you directed at misanthropes, not just anon) need to get your shit together. being hurt doesnt excuse bad behaviour.

i wont change my mind, not about this. hating an entire species for the actions of a few is loser behaviour. sure, some of them are terrible. but many, many of them are innocent. think of children. think of your family, of your friends. think of that stranger you passed by at the supermarket who let you have the last jar of mayonnaise. think of the teacher you had in school who gave you stickers and snacks to make learning a bit more fun. think of the girl who gave you fun facts about animals as you waited to be called to the doctor.

Hey, I found a beanie boo that I liked the design of but I can't stand those giant uguu eyes. Do you think it would be possible to replace them with smaller safety eyes akin to the old beanie babies? If yes, do you have any advice?

I was gonna answer this in a normal way, but then I got curious about trying it for myself and thought I might as well demonstrate!

So, I went and picked up a guy from the supermarket. The selection there was pretty barren today but I found a decent test subject:

(First of all, to my friend who loves beanie boos, I am so sorry for this lmao)

So! First I opened up the closing seam on his back. However, I found an extra mesh barrier inside! Clearly this is to prevent bean escape since this is the most likely seam to accidentally pop open through play. This would be a bit annoying to work around so I just sewed it back up and went in the back of the head instead…

Opened and unstuffed the head…

…And turning it inside out to get to the backs of the eyes. Whoa, these plastic washers are the biggest I’ve ever seen!! Cutting through them will take some work!

Please be very careful of your fingers cutting through these!! Be careful not to cut the fabric around the eye too, but mostly be careful of yourself!

Anyway grrrrrrr attack attack slice slice grrrr

They’re out! With a little glue I think the washers would be able to hold on perfectly well again. I’ll keep these eyes to reuse on something where they’ll be a bit more proportional!

The washers on these eyes are particularly cup shaped, fitting around the back of the eye and holding the fabric tightly against them. Now that the eyes are removed, this has left imprints on the fur!

Plenty of brushing and rumfling will help to fix the creased and flattened areas of fur, and wetting the fur or gently steaming over a hot cup of water should help too. It might take a little time!

(Also, I did make a little cut in the cheek while removing a washer, oops! No worries, that can be stitched up.)

Now we can try on a few new eye styles! Restuff the head for now so you can see how they’ll look.

I have a few sizes of solid black, from teeny dots to absolute tbh creature…

These blue eyes were a little scary… no thanks!

I even have some glittery ones like the original, but smaller! Pretty nice actually!

And even some googly eyes hehehe!

But my favourite eyes were some basic 9mm black ones! They are placed a little funny here, but the position will change a little bit…

The holes left by the original eyes were very big, so a couple of stitches are needed on each one to tighten them up to fit the new eyes. I stitched the top outer corners, to move the holes down and inwards a bit. If you wanted, you could even sew them closed completely and make new eye holes elsewhere!

Unstuff again and pop those new eyes in!

Restuff! You might actually need to add a little extra stuffing, as the fabric not being so pulled around the eyes any more will mean it is a little ‘baggier’.

Then sew the head closed again and that’s about it! The fur is still a little creased around mine, but I’ll keep working at it and it should become less visible.

To add a tiny bit more shape to the big round head, I also did a touch of threadsculpting. I ran a thread from the corner of each eye to below the chin and back, just pulling the eyes in a tad more. You might decide you don’t need this!

And there we go! Hope you’ll try it yourself!

i deal with it by having awesome special interests and doing art pretty much all the time. it causes more problems than i can count lol its basically like being in an abusive relationship with ur own brain. sometimes my objects say nice things to me LOL

new hot take ive been rotating in my mind for a couple weeks is i dont really think being like "well if only they saw how i really suffer" is an appropriate response to other mentally ill people. like, at all, tbh

what put this into perspective for me was a random instagram reel which was like "me when the 1 diagnosis girlies find out about me and my 4 diagnoses" and as someone with More issues than that this post is so fucking laughable, to be honest. like - not their symptoms or illnesses, the fact that they're having a pissing contest over literally nothing. i didnt think "if only these girls saw me at my worst" because thats kind of awful - im sure they do have their own struggles, 4 diagnoses is obviously a lot in their experience and it is. i dont think witnessing another person experience trauma is actually an eye-opening experience, i think it's just a traumatic experience. if i thought that about them, i would also be mentally sorting this person into the "not sick enough, invalid, lesser than me" box and that's literally what they just did to someone else..

i also dont think these people have bad intentions exactly, but it seems like people they view as "less" are getting caught in the crossfire of self-validity. but, does saying those things in that way actually serve to validate? not really, at least, not in a way that makes putting other mentally ill people in the crossfire justified. if you only have "one" illness your life still sucks because of it; diagnoses are about symptoms, Not naming the illness, so even me saying "i fit into more diagnoses than your 4" is not equivalent to "i suffer more." it just means i have a lot of comorbid symptoms, not necessarily "more" or "worse" symptoms. what makes it "more/worse" is wholly my own reaction to these things; just like how trauma is the Reaction NOT the event.

idk. im sure it WOULD be eye-opening if people who thought OCD means enjoying organizing saw the scars on my back from skin-picking, but i dont know if throwing it in their face and saying "youre stupid and i have it worse than you" is helping? all it feels like it does is pit me against other mentally ill people (because of something as simple as not knowing better), and thats obviously terrible because we're eachothers closest allies. it's also very "i have it the worst so i deserve an award for my noble suffering" which.... obviously sucks and is a very cringe way of thinking about suffering

I think we need to normalize using "people" as a species neutral word.

Like idk in my brain the word people just doesn't automatically = human. To me it's just a way to signify intelligence and individuality, and to emphasize the need for respect towards another creature, not specific to any one species.

Dogs can be people, mice can be people, dragons can be people, humans can be people, birds can be people, elves can be people, robots can be people, and so on.

It's also (in my opinion) just much easier than always saying "beings" or "individuals" when referring to varying assortments of creatures.
