Alright, Japanese is not my first language. I am only learning so here's in English:In Atelier, the chief and her old friend go to a restaurant. In this restaurant, there is a big pot with what looks like boiling water or broth. The chef keeps putting things in and taking them out. I think the older friend asks for a tomato.I have been to Japan five times and never seen this kind of place. I think it looks interesting and if good I'd like to try next time. What kind of restaurant is this?

MEXT Scholarship: thinking about changing courses
MEXT Scholarship: thinking about changing courses I know there's not a lot of people in the MEXT Scholarship for 専門学校 (special training college), afaik the majority are in the research category, so this might be a long shot.Does anyone know if it's possible to change my major if I already started my first year in the 専門学校? I feel like it might not be possible but I don't know a lot of other people who got the scholarship for 専門学校 (except those in my year) so I'm not very knowledgeable on stuff like this. Also, if I quit the scholarship, do I have to pay back the money MEXT already gave me? There was a girl in my year who quit the scholarship halfway through the first year, and there were rumors she had to pay back the scholarship but idk if that's true. We used to talk but after she quit she cut off contact with everyone in my year for the scholarship so I can't talk to her anymore.Sorry if maybe I'm coming across like a quitter or something even if I got the scholarship but I'm really not sure anymore about the major I chose, I feel like it's not for me and it's making me a bit miserable. It would be great if I can switch majors but I kinda feel like it's unlikely but I figured I would just ask in case someone is more knowledgeable on this than me.Sorry for the long post! Just not sure where else to ask. Thank you!

Saw an AskReddit thread on "subcultures you don't get", started wondering how it applies in Japan. Which of these are in Japan, and what subcultures in Japan do you not get?
Saw an AskReddit thread on "subcultures you don't get", started wondering how it applies in Japan. Which of these are in Japan, and what subcultures in Japan do you not get? I just found it interesting to go through the thread and think about which of these don't exist in Japan, and how the "weird Japan" idea can be turned around to be "weird America". Say what you will about AKB otaku, at least they haven't been determined to be a gang like Juggalos.Thread here as an np link, right now top posts are:VapingBug chasers - people who want HIVPeople that take their pillow girlfriends out in public.Women that write prisoners.Columbiners - young girls who idolize school shooters in a romanticized anti-hero sort of wayYoutube drama subcultureThe "involuntary celibate" or IncelsRolling coalJuggalosTeaboosWhich subcultures from that thread exist/don't exist in Japan? Also, what Japan-specific subculture do you not get?

Questions about the Global 30 Program Help!!
Questions about the Global 30 Program Help!! Hey guys,I am a korean high school senior who's preparing for the Global 30 Program. I'm considering studying Advanced Molecular Chemistry at Tohoku University, and I have a few questions about the application process. (Since there is virtually no information available on their website, it's a pain). What is the second part of the screening (Oral and written exams) like? Will I be expected to solve super-hard physics/chemistry/mathematics problems? Or will it be more of a meet-and-greet, to confirm that I have proficient skills in English and basic science/math?Any help from anyone, not just people who have applied for Tohoku, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Reporting tax evasion in Japan?
Reporting tax evasion in Japan? There's a pretty terrible human being I've encountered that has never reported any earnings both overseas and domestically. They are a Japanese citizen and have been pretty brazen at self promotion and noting all their business success overseas at seminars and in a few published works. Normally, I wouldn't even think of doing something like this but this person scammed one of my close friends out of quite a hefty some of money and is now trying to pursue me romantically (or scam me?), unaware I know all about them. (trail of complaints, fraud claims, and much more online) They are openly bragging to me about how much each overseas business made them, how they avoid paying taxes on that and how they hand carry loads of cash from Japan to their bank account in Hong Kong to avoid detection. What I find most disturbing is how much they defend anything and everything Japan/Japanese as if they have some personal stake in it...without even paying their fair share of taxes like the rest of us. I also found some quite personal and embarrassing info on them that was made public in print and has some talk online but I don't want to do anything that could lead them back to me or illegal....so I'm thinking reporting them for all their tax evasion is the best option here to put an end to their advances on me and stick them back for scamming my friend. Any advice as to how I go about reporting them?

About Japan background check. Does Japan share information easily?
About Japan background check. Does Japan share information easily? Hi, I am currently in Canada. I just got a job offer and the company said I need to do a background check (of course that means they will check my profile in Japan since I did 4 years undergraduate here). The thing is for my employment history in Japan, I cant exactly remember the dates, nor provide the supervisor's information (since most of them were baito, who would even care about getting their emails and phone numbers). Thus, it might take a while to get a security clearance, which worries me because I dont know how long and how willing Japan is to share the information. Are they protective? Or it depends on the company? I am pretty sure the majority of my supervisors don't speak English at all.
