Fooduary Day 12: Candy Apples
This one was particularly hard! I am not the best at super bright/saturated colors so I second guess myself too much while drawing with them. Candy Apples were invented in 1908. I wanted to incorporate the iconic color, the stick, and hide little apples where I could. What do you think?
I am the artist! Do not post without permission & credit! Thank you! Come visit me over on: instagram, tiktok or check out my coloring book available now \ („• ֊ •„) /

I have a very soft spot in my heart for sequins. Even though I know they're itchy. Even though I know they fall off. Because, come on. This gown from 1908 is the swooniest LBD I've seen in some time. No surprise, it's from France. It belonged to Mary (Castle) Norton of Cleveland--her father was previously mayor, and she was known for enjoying the good life. Indeed, this gown would still turn heads!
Sequins are surprisingly old in terms of fashion history. They are, in fact, a kind of altered bead. Obviously, nowadays, they're made of plastic, but in days of yore sequins were hammered metal, and go back to the Egyptians at least. Leonardo DaVinci even sketched out a sequin making machine to keep up with the trend in the 15th century. Then, in the 1920s, after the opening of King Tut's tomb, there was another big explosion in the sequin trend.
I guess Mary was just ahead of the trends. From the Western Reserve Historical Society.

Jeanne Margaine-Lacroix caused what some called “a riot” at Longchamps race-course in 1908, when 3 models appeared on the scene at the designer’s behest wearing her new corestless, curve hugging, ‘tanagrean dresses.’ This bold move would forever change women’s fashion across the globe, leaving behind the rigid corsets and accentuating the natural silhouette.
