Pov I decided to redesign the cast of hazbin hotel for fun! (pt.1)

*disclaimer: this redesign was done for fun as a way for me to explore character design, it is not meant to critique official art or designs, all design elements were chosen with respect and according to research done about the show, characters, and facts given by the creator. Alastor: I wanted to lean into the 1930's radio host aesthetic, and emphasize his deer motifs, stylized the two toned red/black hair into a more 1930s look, as well as the suit, made his microphone more classic, though I wish I had kept the eye 👁️ (we can pretend it is there, just closed)

Charlie: wanted to emphasize the goat motif in her face, and also make her suit look more "princess-y" so I opted for an outfit that is more rounded in design, she also looks a bit like a puppet, since based on show assets, and background information we know Charlie tends to copy or follow in her parent's shoes, or their trust in Alastor's case.

Vaggie: let's be real, Adam created his angels after his favorite things, he would've made vaggie hot as fuck... So I wanted to give vaggie a still badass outfit to show that she's comfortable in her body despite it being made for Adam's gaze, with a garter to hold weapons since she's not afraid to fight, she also died in 2017 which is why the outfit is a lil Tumblr core, also have her similar shoes to carmilla, to signify her respect for carmilla. She also has moth antennas bc she's technically a moth... Yeah

Angeldust: 1940s mafia spider, I'll walk you through, striped pink vest as an homage to oh striped suit, but more in the 1940's style, escorts would often cover up with big furr coats when wearing skimpy outfits, so i alluded to the showbiz glam by adding a fur scarf. Also, viv had mentioned that Angel hated his feet, so I gave him uglier (spider-like) feet, he will usually be wearing heels. I also just curled his hair more like the 1940s fashion.

This was my thought process so far, though it was very much done entirely for fun.

Agree with your confession, Law/ Z choices have been 90/10 vintage/new. I would love to see the opposite. She could work with recent designs of well known/new designers more.

Thank you! Yea, I don't mean it to be a bad thing...like, I LOVE vintage stuff! I wear vintage styles (mostly dresses) myself! I love the 1940s and 50s' aesthetic and fashion from that era back then. I love 90's fashion.

I don't mind vintage at all. I just like to see more of a balance when it comes to anything tbh.

I too would love to see more current designs for Z's fashion styles, but maybe it's just not what she personally wants? 🤷🏾‍♀️ I would hate to think it's because they're facing some form of discrimination. 😔 The fashion industry CAN be very snooty. Law has talked about it before.

Return of my original art! I bet ya you missed it after one day.

I’m exploring a new anime art style for my Super Secret Project. Kemono (anime furry art) is really hard to do. You can either make it super cutesy (which is great if you’re going for that aesthetic but I sure ain’t) or super uncanny. Like you just glued a pair of ears onto some dude and spilled a grey bucket of paint over their head.

I think I’m beginning to find that sweet spot but i’t really up to you people to decide. In later art I want to use thinner lines.

On the topic of design, what’s up with the fashion in Squirrel and Hedgehog? I think someone could make a whole video essay about it. My top outfits would have to be the neon pink coat with yellow pom-poms the white rabbit spy wears during the totally not Winter Olympics and the ever iconic maid outfits. It took me ages to find something similar to what the squirrels were wearing in the first episode. They never wear outfits like that in the show again. Swapping them out for 1940s to 1960s type outfits. Nothing was more fashionable in the late 90’s than dressing up as your grandparents. Shout out to Mulmangcho with his red shepherd hat and white woolly sweater (I don’t remember his first civilian outfit all that well so don’t quote me on that).

I think this outfit I found works pretty well. Don’t you think?

I should honestly start doing that reach on early 20th century Korea. So my Korean sensitivity reader doesn’t die of cringe. Oh yeah! That’s something I’m going to have to do in like a month. I think the first couple of episodes have that inspiration of pre split Korea so I think it will still work if I get a South Korean sensitivity reader.

So if you know someone then get me in touch. I will make a post later specifically looking for someone. I don’t want to rush finding anyone though as I’m only half way through writing this thing.

Eugenia is a girl with a big heart who likes to be helpful and make people happy, just like so many have done for her in the year since she and her mother settled in the Rio Grande valley of New Mexico. So twice a week, Eugenia visits her friend Mrs. Clements, an elderly widow with no children. She pitches in with whatever chores need to be done, brings her the mail from the post office, and gives her some friendly conversation. Mrs. Clements is so sweet--she made a new dress for Eugenia! It’s made of soft, pretty wool. It’s more of a cold weather dress, and so it’s not something that Eugenia wears in the summer. It looks great with her cloche hat and little purse. 

I like for my historical OCs to have some sort of meet accessories, and I made Eugenia’s after the pattern that the Pleasant Company dolls established--a hat, purse, necklace, coin, and handkerchief. There were a few variations, like Kirsten having a spoon instead of a coin and Josefina having a shawl instead of a hat, but everyone else all the way through Kit in 2000 had those core items in their official accessories. But I gave Eugenia a few more little things, to reflect the current pattern of historical characters being given additional items. 

Eugenia is wearing her felt cloche hat that I made; the cloche was fashionable through the 20′s and 30′s. Around her neck she wears a compass necklace--a tribute to Kit Kittredge, who also has a compass necklace. Her Scottie dog pin was a gift from Mrs. Clements. I made both of these with shrink plastic. The compass is a printed image glued between two circles of clear plastic, and glued to a silk cord. The pin was made with a stencil that I traced onto the plastic and colored in with permanent markers. The ink from the markers gives it an almost fuzzy texture that’s hard to see in the picture. 

Scottie dogs were hugely popular after President Franklin Roosevelt adopted Fala in 1940. So it’s a little after Eugenia’s time; but again, since Kit’s collection features a cute Scottie pin, I wanted the same for Eugenia. It’s got a straight pin glued to the back to hold it in place. 

Her satin embroidered purse holds all of her daily essentials when she walks a mile to Mrs. Clements’ house. This is an off brand purse that came with another doll I bought last year, and I thought it looked nice with Eugenia’s clothes and matched her aesthetic.

Inside her purse, she has an embroidered and monogrammed handkerchief, 32 cents, a butterscotch candy, a train ticket, and a pamphlet published by the Girl Scouts of America, called “Who Are the Girl Scouts?”. Eugenia read through the whole thing, and now she wants to join! 

The pamphlet is based on a real one of the same name that was published in 1933 in English, Polish, Yiddish, and Italian. It discussed what the Girl Scouts were doing at the time to greatly relieve the effects of the Great Depression. 

Her dress is also inspired by Kit’s stories. This woolen dress was never produced, but it was included in Kit’s paper dolls. I used the School House Frock pattern by Fashioned By Rebecca.

Speaking of this challenge, which decade is your favorite and are you most looking forward to?

You're asking me to choose a favorite child here Nonny!

I think I look forward to all of them mainly because I have parts of history (whether events or pop culture refrences) within all of them that interest me.

The one I'm least looking forward to is probably the 1940's, namely the WWII aspect of it. It was such a bleak period with Pearl Harbor, the devastation to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the birth of nuclear weapons, and obviously the rise of facism and The Holocaust. World War II itself has the highest death count of any war; it's just such a horrific period. And, very selfishly, I also just find the fashion styles of the decade rather boring aesthetically and the decor styles are a bit of an eye sore for my particular taste.

My personal favorite decade within the challenge is the 1970's from a purely pop culture stand point because it's when Punk music came onto the scene which later paved the way for some of my favorite genres & subcultures, which The Baudelaire legacy with definitely touch on but I haven't sorted out how quite yet so I can't call it the one I'm looking forward to the most.

Uh, here's some my personal headcanons for some of the Wordgirl Villians and their backstory. Also, what I think they looked like when they were younger.

Lady Redunant Woman

Rebellious, a troublemaker, and prankster.

Often caused trouble in Fair City out of sheer boredom.

Had a very odd, 80's sense of fashion.

Designed a lot of her own clothing.

Perky and fun loving, before customer service/life drained her.

Dreamt of being a model, but was rejected over and over again by the industry.

Had an easier time forming attachments to inanimate objects rather than people.

Settled for her current job out of desperation for money.

Mrs. Question

An animal's rights activist.

Became a vegetarian at a young age

A teacher's pet and an A+ student.

A quick learner and incredibly observant.

Endlessly curious, so she asked a lot of questions in school and at home.

Many of her peers were annoyed by this.

Became discouraged when her degree (philosophy) proved useless.

Turned to villiany as a way of utilizing her skills.

An absolute comic book geek.

She had every comic that depicts The Riddler, and based her villian persona off of him.

Leslie

Painfully shy and insecure.

She didn't have many friends due to this.

An absolute workaholic and an A+ student, often studying to the point of exhaustion.

Had a controlling, strict family who micromanaged her life.

Wanted to be a hero since she was a young girl, so she could finally feel a sense of power and confidence.

Found comfort in comics and princesses.

Superman was her favourite comic book hero, although Wonder Woman was a close second.

Was hired by Mr. Big by absolute chance, and was tricked into believing he was a hero. Yet, she never looked back.

She used to look up to Mr. Big, before getting to know him better. 🤣

Big Left Hand Guy

Suffered from bad insomnia due to crippling anxiety.

Dropped out of high school.

Deeply insecure, only finding pride in his big left hand due to it's strength.

Dreamt of preforming in theatre, but was too overwhelmed by stage freight.

Obsessed with the 1940's aesthetic and films, as it reminded him of his late father.

His first crush was Charlie Chaplin.

Ended up working as a construction worker, and gained a grudge from terrible conditions.

Became a villian as a way of proving himself worthy.

Spent a lot of time at the gym, using the equipment to let out his repressed anger.

Invisi-Bill

Was sent to boarding school at a young age to "straighten him out".

Struggled with staying visible, and was often ignored because of it.

Was seen as annoying whenever he was perceived by his peers.

Had to suppress personality due to pressure from parents and teachers.

Victorian fashion was a significant interest of his, and he put a lot of effort into his appearance.

Dreamt of being a celebrity of any kind, so that he could be beloved by countless of people.

Became a villian for the attention.

Loved to sing whenever he was alone, even if he wasn't very good at it.

The Butcher

Dreamt of being like his father, Kid Potato, since he was old enough to speak.

His mother died during childbirth, so he was raised by his father.

Kid Potato often left him at home alone while he committed crimes.

Dropped out of highschool.

He didn't have many friends after kindergarten, and was teased for the way he spoke.

Found comfort in his meat products, often stimming with it or stress eating.

Stole tokens at the arcade, specifically to play Dance Dance Revolution.

Secretly dreamt of being a dancer, but never found the courage or the confidence to go for it.

name: ruby june grace emerson. age: turned in '63 at 22, actually 82 years old appearance: bleach blonde hair, grey eyes, pale and gaunt features, tall and thin, knobby knees and sharp elbows. very 90's grunge inspired wardrobe (that era of fashion REALLY stuck with her) abilities: super strength, heightened sight smell & hearing weaknesses: sunlight (she can stand in sunlight but not for too long before her blood literally begins to boil. not a joke. like actually boil), decapitation, holy water, fire.

RJ, or ruby june, was born november 11th 1940 to a couple not ready for kids. her mom left the picture pretty early on, leaving her and her father in the middle of the night. times were tough and her father could barely scrape by, so when she was in her 20s, ruby june got a waitressing job to help make ends meet. despite her love of the alternative subcultures her father still loved and supported her, even when she came home one night, changed ---

she was attacked one night, on her way home from work. mauled by someone who made her a meal like a starving wild dog might eat a scrap of meat. when they had their fill of her, they muttered something about her being too pretty to waste. something was pressed to her lips, and everything went white --- pain like she had never experienced before surged her body, but when she came too everything was different.

her father passed in the 90's --- she had tried to turn him but didnt know how. now she is alone, traveling the country, finding meals where she can but never killing, because thats not her style.

My favorite color is green. Probably a nice dark one like pthalo or emerald. My favorite band is The Who but I also like The Monkees and Bob Seger. Aesthetically speaking I’m probably a cross between 70’s fashion and 1940’s Hollywood glamour. I’m an INTJ and a textbook Virgo (I think only one part of my sign is something else). Forest Fae

I don't know a whole lot about the forest fae but I promise I didn't match you with one just because you like green! As an INTJ your thirst for knowledge will lead you off the beaten path and deep into unknown territory. But you persevere in search of that unknown and use all that 80's horror knowledges to avoid getting in trouble.

You stumble upon your forest fae, not the other way around, which thoroughly surprises them but they aren't so easily rattled. Maybe the cam get a deal out of you.

Are you lost? No, alright then, in search of some prize? Nothing specific. A few questions later and your sure this person you've met in the woods isn't human. In fact, the green of their eyes and how they stand still as a tree all but confirms it.

You leave the forest that day unscathed and wishing instantly to go back once you return to civilization.

You worry about your fae, probably more than necessary, but you return again and again with a different excuse each time until you fill your home with gifts from the forest fae and you spot them wearing things you have brought them.

It matches the green pallor of their skin, the shimmer of darker green across their shoulders and cheeks from the sun. Meaning so much to a fae is tricky but worth the struggle.
