Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has a reckless plan for achieving U.S. global dominance: giving away other countries’ territory.

Ramaswamy is already under fire for his objectively terrible plan to let China invade Taiwan after 2028 if he were elected. Now, the presidential hopeful thinks that Russia should be allowed to keep the parts of Ukraine it currently occupies.

“Our goal should not be for Putin to lose. Our goal should be for America to win,” Ramaswamy told CNN Thursday night.

Ramaswamy said that U.S. involvement in Ukraine is strengthening the Russia–China military alliance—and the only way to break that alliance and bring Russia around to the American side is to give Vladimir Putin what he wants.

“I would freeze the current lines of control, and that would leave parts of the Donbas region with Russia,” Ramaswamy explained. “I would also further make a commitment that NATO will not admit Ukraine to NATO. But there are even greater wins that I will get for the United States.”

Ramaswamy seems to be under multiple false impressions with this diplomatic plan, the first being that the United States has the authority to simply give away parts of another sovereign nation. He also appears to believe that if he visits Moscow, he can single-handedly buddy up to Putin enough to convince the Russian leader to drop a highly advantageous military alliance.

And as anchor Jim Acosta rightly pointed out, Putin is unlikely to stop with Ukraine. He wasn’t satisfied with annexing Crimea in 2014 and now wants all of Ukraine. If he is allowed to keep parts of Ukraine, it’s possible that he’ll try to invade somewhere else such as Poland, a NATO member—which would require military intervention from the rest of the members.

This plan is just as bad as Ramaswamy’s strategy for Taiwan. Earlier this week, Ramaswamy proposed letting China take over Taiwan after 2028, which he believes is when the U.S. would build up its own supply of semiconductors. Taiwan produces about 60% of the global supply of semiconductors, which are microchips crucial to making all electronic devices.

Ramaswamy said he intends to dramatically up the firepower around Taiwan during his first term, to make clear to Beijing that they should “not mess” with the island until the U.S. has semiconductor independence. After that, China can do whatever it wants. It did not seem to occur to him that China would likely interpret these moves as acts of aggression and respond in kind. Nor does he seem to realize that it’s highly unlikely China would listen to his proposed arrangement.

But despite his only campaign points being battling “wokeness,” taking away rights, and, apparently, allowing authoritarian governments to do whatever they want, Ramaswamy is somehow rising in the polls.

Normally I don't post GOP ads here, but the sentiment in this one supporting Ukraine provoked discussion during the second Republican debate on Wednesday.

Of course I agree with the content; it's almost indistinguishable from what Congressional Democrats say about Ukraine. In terms of national security, aid for Ukraine is one of the best investments the US has ever made. And it puts the United States firmly on the right side of history. Assisting Ukraine to maintain its independence is just and moral.

The ad is aimed primarily at people like Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the Putin Caucus on Capitol Hill. It probably caused Tucker Carlson to go into spasms.

At the Wednesday debate, Ramaswamy put his profound ignorance and naïveté on international display by saying we should let Putin have Eastern Ukraine to keep Russia from getting too friendly with China. I know, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever – but that's par for the course with Vivek.

Bill Gates said in a February 18, 2017 Business Insider op-ed (published near the time of his Munich Security Conference speech) that it is possible for an airborne pathogen to kill at least 30 million people over the course of a year. In a New York Times report, the Gates Foundation predicted that a modern outbreak similar to the Spanish Influenza pandemic (which killed between 50 million and 100 million people) could end up killing more than 360 million people worldwide, even considering widespread availability of vaccines and other healthcare tools. The report cited increased globalization, rapid international air travel, and urbanization as increased reasons for concern.

In a March 9, 2017, interview with CNBC, former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, who was co-chair of the bipartisan Blue Ribbon Study Panel on Biodefense, said a worldwide pandemic could end the lives of more people than a nuclear war. Lieberman also expressed worry that a terrorist group like ISIS could develop a synthetic influenza strain and introduce it to the world to kill civilians.

In July of 2017, Robert C. Hutchinson, former agent at the Department of Homeland Security, called for a "whole-of-government" response to the next global health threat, which he described as including strict security procedures at our borders and proper execution of government preparedness plans.

2017 U.S. budget proposal affecting bioterrorism programs: donald trump reduced funding for "protecting the nation from deadly pathogens, man-made or natural," according to The New York Times. Agencies tasked with biosecurity get a decrease in funding under the Administration's budget proposal.

Washington (The Times Groupe) – Former US President Donald Trump says the greatest threat to the world is nuclear warming, surpassing even global warming.

“Nobody talks about nuclear…the biggest problem we have in the whole world. It’s not global warming, it’s nuclear warming,” Trump told Fox News host Tucker Carlson in an interview that aired Tuesday night.

“And all it takes is one madman…and it’s only a matter of seconds. You don’t have to wait 200 to 300 years for it to happen,” Trump declared.

Trump also expressed concern about Russia’s nuclear weapons capability and its impact on Ukraine. He argued that while many people talked about Ukraine‘s situation, Russia is “sitting back.”

In addition, Trump was asked if he would withdraw from the 2024 presidential race if convicted of any charges, including those involving Stormy Daniels’ ongoing hush money case.

In response, he stated that he would never drop out.

“I’d never drop out. That’s not my thing. I wouldn’t do it,” he added.

“People were crying, people that worked there, professionally work there, that have no problems putting in murderers and they see everybody,” he said.

Trump was charged last week with 34 counts for allegedly paying “hush money” to Daniels before the 2016 election by Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg.

Putin served in the USSR's spy agency for 16 years, between 1975 and 1991, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

I have heard from multiple MAGA friends and family members that they trust Putin more than any Democrat. This frightening political stance by people who believe that they are acting in the best interest of our country shows the devastating impact of Russian propaganda spread through MAGA politicians and pundits. I generally do not agree with the Democratic party’s platform. However, every vote for a MAGA politician who enables this murderous former KGB leader is a vote against the very freedoms that our country was founded on.

Donald Trump posted on Truth Social today that he can free the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich from his unjust detainment in Russia—but only after he is elected president. Trump, of course, has a tendency to make claims in which he is the only solution to a difficult problem—“I alone can fix it” was part of his 2016-campaign rhetoric. But even by Trump’s standards, this is an odd assertion for several reasons, including the small detail that the Russians have denied any contact with Trump about Gershkovich. (The Kremlin even seemed to reprimand the former president: “Any contact regarding those imprisoned or convicted,” Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said today, “must be carried out in complete silence and in a discreet manner.”)

In his post, Trump seems to be claiming some sort of special friendship with Putin. The evidence from their meetings over the years is that the two presidents are not personal friends; Trump, for his part, seems very much intimidated by Putin.

Donald Trump is playing politics with efforts to free wrongly detained WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich from Russia, with a provision: re-elect him back into office.

If Russia stops fighting, that’s the end of the war. If Ukraine stops fighting, that's the end of Ukraine.

DeSantis is effectively taking the side of a communist KGB agent who is now dictator of Russia. Putin and Fidel Castro were old friends. Putin visited Castro less than a year after taking office.

Those anti-Castro Cubans in Florida shouldn’t be happy about their governor taking the party line of somebody trying to re-establish the Soviet communist empire by force.

@visegrad24 reminds us that playing footsie with tyrants is not a road to lasting peace.
