Tutorial - Pixel Style Rendering in Blender3D
Here’s a quick tutorial for rendering in pixel art style for Blender.
.Blend file download link of this setup at bottom of post
I’m using Blender version 2.83
Setting Up
Set Render Sampling to 64 and Dimensions to 600 by 600px.
For Cube Size and Cascade Size choose 2048px. Check High Bitdepth and Soft Shadows.
Under Color Management set View Transform to Standard.
I’ve got my scene set up now with the model and lighting I’m gonna use.
Compositor Nodes
The basic pixelization node setup in the compositor window. Remember to check Use Nodes.
Outlines
Check Freestyle to add outlines
Set Line Thickness to 1.7
Set Crease Angle to 175 and check Face Smoothness. Under Edge Types check Silhouette and External Contour.
Color Ramp
Add a Color Ramp and Mix nodes to the compositor setup and connect them like so. Set Color Ramp to Constant. Pick the colors you want.
Transparent Background
Under Film check transparent.
And that’s it! I might do some more pixel rendering tutorials in the future but for now I just wanted to post something easy to help others get started.
