🔥🔥🔥Vigilant Observer Edmond's R2 is UNDER-RATED!!!!!🔥🔥🔥 (a self-indulgent long-ass Edssay defending a room I really REALLY liked)

So, I have seen a weirdly large amount of comments online saying that the new SSR Edmond's Intimacy Room 2 sucks. I've seen it called boring and a waste of intimacy gifts.

Peace and Love, I know everyone has different tastes---and I am hella biased towards Edmond---

BUT!!!

I believe any perceive shortcomings are completely out-weighed by the elements this room actually focuses on.

At the very least, this intimacy room DESERVES to be appreciated more, rather than ruthlessly slandered.

1) What Happens VS What Doesn't

Here's a very general outline of what happens in R2:

Eiden initiates a "Guard searching/punishing a Prisoner" scene (Roleplay)

Eiden provokes (/ is a Brat to) Edmond (Dom/Sub)

Edmond use essence to conduct electricity into the baton, and uses the electricity to stimulate his exposed skin and dick (Electroplay + Masochism)

Eiden's provocations eventually turn into teasing (Dirty Talk, + light Humiliation)

Eiden uses the top of his foot to rub Edmond's bulge through his pants

Edmond cums first; Eiden teases/provokes him for it

Eiden cums shortly after from the Electroplay

Perfectly normal, standard intimacy room, yes?

But, from what I've gathered, people are labelling it as boring or under-whelming because:

There isn't any Bondage

There isn't significant nudity/direct skin-to-skin touching

The areas that are touched are relatively small (basically just each character's groin)

Edmond isn't the one that gets off from Masochism (or at least, not from physical Masochism)

These points go against what people's EXPECTATIONS were; since the setting of this event was in inside a prison--a harsh environment full of rough individuals and literal bondage--they expected this R2 to be more physical and rough than it actually was.

Hell, even I wasn't expecting for the room to be as "tame" as it was.

But just because my expectations were subverted doesn't mean I got pissy about it.

BECAUSE THIS ROOM IS STILL FUCKING GOOD!!!

I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that not all BDSM plays NEED Bondage, skin-to-skin, physical pain (in this case, just on Ed's part), etc. to be satisfying--just because they expected that but didn't get it.

2) Missing the Point - THIS ROOM IS STILL HELLA KINKY (A Closer Look at Ed's Satisfaction)

If you're seeing this post, there's a fair chance you've also seen my GIANT Edmond Post for Struggling Fanfic Writers; which is basically a long-ass character analysis of Edmond.

As I mentioned in that post, Edmond H-scenes have certain themes/kinks that re-occur; and as it turns out, the Intimacy Room we'll be looking at today features a lot of them.

However, for the purposes of this post, I'm going to narrow it down to just 2--the 2 that, in my opinion, were the main contributors towards Edmond's orgasm. (After all, the quality of intimacy rooms with each unique character relies on the quality of that character's experience.)

The quality with which these themes/kinks are executed is extremely impressive, which is why it was satisfying to the characters; and thus, satisfying for us players to watch.

When R2 starts, Eiden immediately sets the scene by provoking Edmond; saying that Edmond should do is job as a guard and properly search the prisoner.

Via Eiden's provocations, although Edmond is in a vulnerable position--kneeling on the ground--he is, for the moment, playing the Dominant role.

This is another subversion of expectations, which I find very welcoming. This is possibly the closest we've ever gotten to characters switching roles--only, Edmond doesn't actually "top." (Though, now that I think of it, Silver Confessor Olivine R5 also has a similar dynamic....*shrug*)

While Edmond is acting as a Dom, Eiden is a Bratty Submissive; saying things like "it feels like a tickle!" when Edmond starts electrifying the baton.

Edmond is surprised when Eiden gets excited by being treated in such a degrading way (I spy, with my little eye, PROJECTION); but he's shortly thereafter put into a degrading position himself---

This is when Eiden starts rubbing Edmond through his pants with the top of his foot--which honestly isn't far off from the whole stepping-on-others position that is common in BDSM.

If you ask me, this is a HUGE POINT contributing towards the quality of this room: This submissive position, symbolizing Edmond's gradual loss of power/control.

Eiden also teases Edmond in the hopes that he'll suck him off; but, staying in-character, Edmond refuses him.

In other words, not giving Eiden head--another expectation people had that wasn't fulfilled--was literally a part of the play. It's Sexual Denial.

But, as R2 goes on, Eiden's teasing and dirty talk get more and more intense, and it basically ends up switching their roles in this play.

You know how in a typical Edmond H-scene, Eiden's kissing, caressing, etc. gradually make Edmond lose his mind with how horny he gets?

Well, so far, literally the only thing Eiden has done is indirectly rub his bulge. Rather than physical touch, Eiden's dirty talk is what makes Edmond the most aroused.

DEADASS---EIDEN DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO DO THAT MUCH. HE DOES SUCH A GOOD JOB RILING EDMOND UP JUST WITH HIS WORDS, THAT THIS HAPPENS:

BITCH, EDMOND'S NIPPLES GET ERECT ON THEIR OWN!!!! JUST FROM HOW TURNED ON HE IS!!!! WITHOUT THEM EVER BEING TOUCHED!!!! THAT HAS LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!!!!!!!!

All Eiden has to do to fully switch Edmond from the Dom position back into the Sub--making Edmond lose control over himself--is TALK.

THAT IS SO FUCKING SEXY, WHAT THE HELL???? ♡♡♡

This is why I DO NOT UNDERSTAND people that don't like this room.

I've said before--in the GIANT Ed-Post--that Edmond is sensitive. And his H-scenes do a great job of showing that off---via PHYSICAL TOUCH.

But what this intimacy rooms excels at is expressing how Edmond is sensitive to more than just physical touch.

AND THAT IS THE WHOLE DAMN POINT!!!

Let's look again at the evidence:

Listen. I know this intimacy room didn't have the play people were expecting.

BUT IT WAS STILL GOOD.

Speaking from personal experience--and from the obvious arousal and satisfaction Edmond shows in this room--not every BDSM play needs to be super physical. Submission/masochism is not exclusively about physical stimulation/pain.

What we see in this intimacy room is Edmond being dominated in a psychological way, and that's what makes is so damn kinky and rewarding; both for viewers and for Edmond.

3) The GOD-TIER Technical Aspects

...So...did the people that are heavily criticizing this R2 just, like, have their sound off the whole time??? Or did they only read the subtitles without looking at the actual visuals of this intimacy room??????

Even if, for whatever reason, the find the scenario under-whelming, I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME picture a situation where the voice-acting and animation couldn't make up for that.

Quickly referencing back to the last section of this Edssay; Eiden is teasing Edmond like the entire time, and that "slightly husky" and "seductive" voice is INCREDIBLE. An absolute TREAT for my ears. And Edmond's panting, gasps, and moans???? HOT DAMN.

These two could be doing the most mundane, "boring" sexual act ever, but if we can hear that the both of them are clearly very into it, then why wouldn't it be a satisfying intimacy room???

And then there's the art---

It's all just SO GOOD, DAMMIT!!!!

look, i love me some switches, but do u think there are any scenarios (errr, or specific clan members) where oli would be willing to top more often than bottom? or does this mans just love bottoming too much for that

I think, if we're going full AU... if he were in a monogamous relationship, sure. say a modern AU EiOli or something - Eiden loves switching, Olivine loves serving, Olivine would service top Eiden once in a while because Eiden wants to bottom sometimes. like the thing that irritates me most is that it would be so easy to make kuya cute. it would literally be so easy. it would fit so perfectly with his established personality and flaws that i keep getting surprised that they DON'T do it.

he just needs to fall in love with eiden. he wouldn't know it, he wouldn't get it, and he would be deeply confused by it. it would be fucking adorable. he would get jealous seeing eiden with the other clan members, especially quincy, or even someone like blade or olivine who just very openly expresses affection for him. and he wouldn't probably even realize he was jealous, either, because he's ~too powerful for stuff like that.~ and it frustrates him because he is that powerful, this shouldn't be happening to him, he didn't even feel this way about huey, and he actually respected huey.

there would be a card story where kuya was just sort of observing eiden having a normal day, intending to play a prank or mess with him or something, but instead he just ends up... watching. eiden kisses yakumo on the cheek while he cooks and he blushes. he teases edmond, has tea with aster, listens to rei talk about his work even though he obviously doesn't get it, and kuya watches, feeling a million miles away.

or a story where he does prank eiden, but goes way too far and eiden genuinely gets upset, blows up at him, refuses to talk to him, and kuya... cares? maybe even... misses him? potentially even considers the fact that he did something wrong, instead of just blaming it on eiden being young or an idiot or on some cultural difference between humans and yokai? and now they're both sulking and aster makes quincy do something about it because they're killing the vibes in the mansion.

even his scenes would be cuter, he wouldn't even change that much, he'd just be a little gentler of a dom, a little more affectionate, maybe acting completely like his usual self but then stops when eiden protests and asks is this okay, young master? are you okay? do you need anything? because he still loves messing with him, but he gets worried, because he has to accept that there are things about humans, and even eiden specifically, that he doesn't just Know, and he could hurt him, or upset him, and he actually cares about that.

stories where eiden gets surprised by kuya doing something thoughtful, and he laughs and says wow, who knew you were actually a sweetheart somewhere in there! and kuya's heart skips a beat, maybe he even gets a little flustered, you know, god forbid. because yeah they've had sex but if kuya's nice, eiden hugs him or squeezes his hand or kisses him, and kuya doesn't know what to do with that.

sooo i'v seen a very small number of people complain that they dont like morvay or aster's room 5s. not a lot. i think i've seen only 2 comments or so.

when i first saw screenshots, i was like HOLY HELL THIS IS SO HOT. i think they're still both VERY hot action-wise. however, i do think the dialogue can be easily misinterpreted.

first up, lets keep in mind these are FICTIONAL characters in a FICTIONAL universe and that yaoi has always had a consent problem but we SHOULD be MATURE ADULTS that can distinguish fiction from reality and know those actions WOULD NOT BE RIGHT in the real world. dont treat your partners like that unless they ask for it!

so what happens in the rooms? in aster's SSR room 5, full form aster is sitting in a chair holding full form morvay out and fucking him with a tentacle creature (the tentacles is actually morvay's new pet i think?). in morvay SSR room 5, twink femboy aster is punishing full form morvay, this time with dildos, a bottle of eiden's essence, and a strapon). in aster's room 5, morvay sometimes enjoys the tentacle creature, in morvay room 5, he's saying no the entire time because those toys are too big, too painful, and not real dicks with essence.

so what are my thoughts? first up, morvay is a very horny incubus who literally eats cum/essence to survive and eiden's cum is his favorite food. in his SSR room 2, he even explicitly tells *Aster* to set up a gloryhole room for him to suck dicks and sometimes get spitroasted. in the main story, some events, and their R/SR cards, there have also been a variety of scenes where aster says he'll punish morvay with some horrible sex act and then morvay goes "that sounds awesome!" so i think he's also an extreme masochist.

now a side note about CNC or "consensual nonconsent" also known as "rape roleplay": this is a fetish in which partners agree to be violated and its widely misunderstood both in & outside of kink scenes. in certain dynamics, a top/dom is told to ignore any "no's" unless its a safeword, which will take place of the no. in morvay room 5, we hear him say no almost the entire time, but nothing that indicated a safeword*.

in summary, as a kink person, i think morvay & aster are in a D/s relationship (but open) who constantly bicker, engage in CNC, and punishments is regularly a part of their dynamic. there's scenes in the main story where they clearly trust & care for each other.

*side note 1: despite what i said about morvay & aster being in a possible relationship, it is still possible for someone to abuse their lover. in fact, domestic abuse is seriously underreported and it is very difficult to escape from. remember that this is a fictional world and an IRL relationship with domestic abuse should not be excused this way! *side note 2: altho nu carnival has started to include some actual BDSM items, i havent unlocked enough H scenes to know if anyone uses a safeword. I think it will be amazing if that ever happens in this porn game.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

This answer might be a bit of a cop out, because it kind of applies to every character - I really like adjusting the narration style to reflect the POV character. For Olivine, he's well read and introspective, so the narration can really wax poetic and can also be direct about what he's thinking and feeling. At the same time he has so much wrong with him so you can also sprinkle in some crunchy bits that make the reader go "babygirl that's kinda fucked up". Compare that with how I write Eiden's POV (goofy and affectionate) or Blade's POV (pulling out all my compsci lecture notes.)

I can't really think of anything I dislike, because he fits really cleanly into my natural writing inclinations... I guess it's a little hard to write conversations, because I like writing banter but Olivine is too earnest to banter.

Aster: We don't see them interacting much (I think? there's a lot of events I haven't seen) but they seem to get along well. In Silver Miracle Aster drags Olivine away from the creamy hot pot to a different one, so they're on good enough terms for that to happen. Friendly but nothing special seems to be the vibe.

Morvay: I absolutely think they're BFFs. There's something very sweet about a priest and an incubus being the best of friends, and honestly they're about the same level of horny. They go to 'medicinal herb' (aphrodisiac) shops together and probably swap book recommendations.

Ship-wise: definitely friendship only and zero romance. I think they're prooobably not sexually compatible, unless it's a threesome and they're sandwiching one top between them. They both crave cock in them too much.

Yakumo: They're very very sweet and uncomplicated (or, well, they were uncomplicated until CoD. let's ignore that for a sec.) Olivine's gentle demeanour gets on very well with Yakumo's nervousness. Their dynamic is such that they don't challenge each other or push each other out of their respective comfort zones, and sometimes, that's exactly what you need in a relationship.

CoD complicates this. They both had protective/self-sacrificial streaks to begin with, and now they both feel guilty about what went down with the cult. Let's be honest, the game probably won't touch on this, but there really should be some complicated emotions between them.

Ship-wise: they're not the whirlwind romance Hallmark movie type, but they're the cute domestic type where they go shopping and then make dinner together. Also the sex is fantastic because Yakumo can be overwhelming and Olivine loves being overwhelmed.

Edmond: They're friendly, but earlier on in the event timeline, I also got the sense that out of all the clan members, Edmond is the one that places the most importance on Olivine's priesthood. That's a point of conflict, because Olivine's whole deal is learning to be An Actual Person outside of his job. As long as Edmond sees him as Father Olivine The Priest and not just Olivine, there's going to be some amount of distance between them.

I think they must have figured this out offscreen at some point, because in CoD Edmond drops the 'Father' title and just calls Olivine by name. So there's an unspecified stretch of time where they have the awkwardness I talk about above, but where we currently are in the event timeline, I think they're good friends. There's interesting places to explore in regards to how they both feel bound by duty and both (used to) struggle with feeling ashamed for having sexual desires.

Ship-wise: I've talked about olimond a lot these past few days. I still love the idea of them having the most chaste regency romance slowburn. Sexually, Edmond might be the only man Olivine will be a Dom(ish) top for, but Eiden has to get them started because Olivine doesn't know what to make of Edmond's CNC thing.

Quincy: Also very uncomplicated. Quincy likes that he's quiet and polite, and Olivine just generally likes people. They simply get along well.

Ship-wise: I'll be honest, I don't find romantic quinoli to be that much better than other romantic Olivine/clan member ships, at least when it comes to canon and canon-adjacent settings. They're sweet, but there's not a huge amount of depth to their dynamic. AUs are different because you can change up their circumstances to add that depth; AU romantic quinoli has the capacity to be super good. See: Pages and Priests by Zerenovation.

Regardless of whether they're romantically involved, the sex is really hot. Quincy is very straightforwardly, physically dominant and Olivine would love being manhandled. If you've ever peeped my ao3 profile you'll know I'm unfortunately an omegaverse enjoyer and these two would be the quintessential alpha/omega pair. (Quincy putting Olivine in a mating press... now there's a thought.)

Kuya: Oh Boy. tl;dr - the most complicated Olivine-clan relationship by far, which makes it very interesting.

Here's the kuyoli tag on my blog. I think requiodile says it better than I can, but to paraphrase my favourite parts: they're uniquely positioned to challenge one another in ways that they just don't get from anyone else.

They both have a thing about being seen for their station (priest/powerful yokai) before they're seen for themselves, and they both don't really care about each other's station. Kuya doesn't give a shit about the church or its priests. Olivine respects other cultures and respects that Kuya is held in high regard among the yokai, but ultimately, Kuya is just another one of God's creatures. We see all the way back in Kuya's introduction chapter that Olivine doesn't seem intimidated by him, just kind of annoyed.

There's a few angles their dynamic could take, depending on circumstance.

Kuya intentionally tries to piss off Olivine just to see how much Olivine is willing to take. Olivine is very accomodating, and knowing that Kuya is trying to get a reaction means he would try to stay calm, but even he has his limits.

Kuya, on account of being old as balls and a yokai, has a sense of morality that can seem incomprehensible and callous to humans. Olivine might try for something along the lines of "I know there's cultural differences, but I still find your actions unacceptable", which Kuya would hate.

In either case: we'd get Olivine being genuinely angry. Not just "I was worried for your safety" angry, but genuine "you are such an asshole and I can't do anything about it" angry. I think it'd be neat to see a new side of him. NuCa events being NuCa events, they'd resolve the conflict soon enough, but they're never going to be buddy-buddy. The potential Kuya-Olivine dynamic of "we respect each other but don't like each other" is still a very unique one for Olivine.

If you just wanted PWP, Kuya is absolutely capable of straight up bullying Olivine so hard that he gets flustered and submits before there's even anything for him to be mad about. They're very sexually compatible, being the most sadistic top and the neediest masochist bottom. I think Kuya would find it a fascinating challenge to have a sub that'll take anything he can give and still beg for more.

Garu and Karu: I really don't know what to make of their relationship. Olivine comments in Forest Carnival that he can't help but want to watch over Garu and Karu, so it's... kind of a parental vibe? But that's a really fucking weird vibe to have when they're all having sex with the same guy. I dunno. I'm unsure of what to make of Garu and Karu in general, and given what I know of their writing in events and intimacy rooms, I don't think the devs know what to make of them either.

Blade: I think they're cute! Olivine is a master of social cues and Blade doesn't know what a social cue is. They'd have a lot to learn from each other. I'm going to plug another Zerenovation fic here.

Much like Kuya, Blade also doesn't especially care that Olivine's a priest, but it comes from a place of not knowing what a priest is and not from antagonism. I think that'd be somewhat strange but also nice for Olivine.

Dante: I find it hard to get a read on how Dante generally interacts with the other clan members. Dante and Olivine interact in Festive Glimmer, but miraheze doesn't have the transcript for me to remind myself of how that went. I think they'd be polite and friendly, but not especially close. They might have something to explore in terms of Dante also being very defined by his duty - probably not the sort of thing that'll ever be touched on in canon, but could be interesting in fic.

Ship-wise: I think it'd be funny to see how Dante tries to figure out topping Olivine. He's so used to dealing with Eiden's bratting, and Olivine is... distinctly not a brat. Romantically, there's currently not enough depth in canon for me to be interested, but if a fic existed I'd give it a shot.

Rei: We really haven't seen enough of Rei at all for me to get any sort of read on him. Olivine might have something to say about Rei chipping fragments off the water elemental gemstone?

Ship-wise: Rei might be the only person who can make Olivine a sub top. Like, pin down or tie up Olivine and ride him kind of thing. But again, I don't really know enough about Rei to be confident yet.

Not that the results have anything to do with you but im getting real worked up about the top top tournament because co many people are using top to mean dom in the tags/in their votes 😭 i thought the question is whos dishing out the most dick right?? Not the dommiest daddy?

the intention of the tournament was that if the two characters of the round fucked, who's topping? the (more often) clause was there because we're all switch appreciators and I figured someone might go "uhm akshually they switch. your poll is invalid. checkmate." but in hindsight it seems to have made people think the poll is asking who tops more often across all partners? we're already three rounds deep though, so it might be too late to clarify.

anyway: yes, it's not whoever's dommiest, but whoever's using their dick or strap more. in defense of voters, the game is also pretty bad about conflating top and dom. I'm not sure there's a single top r5 where Eiden doesn't get dommed. and in this setup of top vs top, I don't think it's unreasonable to argue that whoever's more dominant will top more, just from the logistics of one top having to convince another top to bottom.

the length of the D/s AU post is getting a little ridiculous from all the reblogs so I'm probably gonna make individual posts from now on. keeps the replies from getting too bloated too

current thoughts:

pondering what Eiden's role is in all this. he's 100% a switch like in canon, with an equal need to have control and give up control at different times. I think if I make it so that biological D/s wasn't a thing in his original world then I'd just be rehashing epsilon 'verse, but him not being an expert in things is so useful for exposition... maybe Klein's biological D/s is turned up to 11 compared to what he's used to, or his lack of meaningful long-term relationships means that he lacks experience on this front, or it's just that the clan members specifically are unusually intense.

also tossing around possible fic ideas. someone tries to harass one of the clan's subs and Yakumo goes apeshit on their ass. one of the Doms is getting high strung and stressy and Olivine offers to help with stress relief (wink wink nudge nudge). the entire mess that is Edmond in D/s AU. that kind of thing.

I think, given the nature of the game, the devs could write that he is or isn't into any kink and we'd just have to accept that as canon.

So while keeping in mind that anything I say could be disproven very quickly, my headcanon is that he's incredibly experimental and incredibly curious - there are very few things he wouldn't at least try once or twice before deciding it's not for him.

I think so far he's seemed pretty 'meh' on roleplay type stuff - I don't count any of the student-teacher stuff because Eiden and Olivine are actually student and teacher, so I'm referencing IF r5 here. tl;dr is that Eiden tries to go "oooo what if I were a fan grabbing you like this, what would you do" and Olivine is just kind of like, what are you talking about, please fuck me already. He overall doesn't seem super against it, but it also seems like it's not a turn on. Which I think makes sense, given that a major part of his story is about being true to himself and his desires, sexual or otherwise. He's alright with his partners engaging in roleplay, but he wants to be himself when he has sex. (This is the one I think would be the most likely to get disproven in the future.)

I also think - and this is where I have to say that I respect other headcanons - that Olivine really isn't much of a Dom. I think he could learn to act like one, especially since he has so much experience working as a community and faith leader, but I don't think being dominant would actually do anything for him. I think he could certainly guide more hesitant clan members (read: Edmond) but, in my mind, that's not the same thing as being a D/s Dom. That's just him leading the way in what is otherwise fairly vanilla sex.

I also think sex with strangers, group sex or otherwise, is complicated. I don't doubt he'd get off on it either way, but the difference is whether he gets off in a SSC way or if he gets off in a "this has undone his progress in therapy" way. I think it comes down to objectification; Olivine's trauma is very much about the ways in which he was non-sexually objectified, in that he was treated as an ideal that should have been perfect and not afforded the kindness for a person that isn't. If he gets objectified during sex as well - something that he has always experienced as a way to reclaim his right to have desires - that's going to reaaaaally fuck with him.

So like, a one-on-one fling where he and the other guy are strangers but respect each other would be fine. A gangbang where everyone is into the fantasy of fucking Father Olivine The Priest but don't care to actually get to know Olivine would mess with his head. Sucking dicks at the glory hole with Morvay would be fine because it's anonymous both ways; he's not being stared in the eye and objectified despite it. Eiden and him engaging in exhibitionism shenanigans in front of strangers (orgy/sex club kinda setting) would be fine with aftercare, because even though the voyeurs are objectifying him, Eiden isn't and he's the one actually fucking Olivine. It's complicated! It's mostly gut feeling for me on this one.
