One of things I love most about Leigh Bardugo's books is her focus on the violence committed against women and girls. In Shadow and Bone, there's Genya and Alina. Both have been manipulated by the Darkling and exploited, Alina for her power, and Genya for her beauty. Genya was repeatedly raped by the king and the Darkling refused to help her because he wanted to use her as a spy. The Darkling and the Apprart saw Alina and her powers as a way to push their agendas and gain power.
In Six of Crows, there's Inej and Mayra Hendriks. Inej has sold into human trafficking as a young teen and suffered abuse from men. Even when Kaz rescues her from Tante Heleen, she is still bound to Per Haskell. Then in Crooked Kingdom, she is kidnapped by Van Eck and starved and threatened with torture. Mayra Hendriks, Wylan's mother, was put into an asylum by her husband for having a child with a disability.
King of Scars explores Zoya's character more and we learn that she was almost a child bride to a pedophile, and was then manipulated by the Darkling when her aunt rescued her by taking her to the Little Palace. Nina discovers the full extent of the misogyny in Fjerda in these books too. She finds the Fjerdan Grisha women, who are being drugged and forced to have children for the government. Through Hanne and Nina's experiences with Jarl Brum, we see how men like him confine women and their femininity into a rigid box.
In Ninth House, Alex has suffered so much at the hands of men. Len, her ex-boyfriend, was abusive to her. Eitan the drug dealer also exploited Alex for her ability to use the strength of Grays. There were also the women like Tara who are murdered for greed and power. Mercy and Hellie are two young women who were raped by powerful men.
I am sure that I have forgotten some characters and I apologize for that. Violence against girls and women is something that tends to get swept under the rug, so to speak, and I am glad that Leigh Bardugo touches on this topic repeatedly in her books.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Mike Nichols, 1966)
Cast: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, George Segal, Sandy Dennis. Screenplay: Ernest Lehman, based on a play by Edward Albee. Cinematography: Haskell Wexler. Production design: Richard Sylbert. Film editing: Sam O'Steen. Music: Alex North.
I don't know if Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a great play -- I've never seen it on stage -- but it's not a great movie, perhaps because it sticks so closely to an uncinematic source. What it does have is one great performance, Richard Burton's, and one near-great one from Elizabeth Taylor. Unfortunately, George Segal and Sandy Dennis are miscast as Nick and Honey: He's too hip and she's too rabbity for their roles to take dramatic shape. Ideally, I think, Nick and Honey should be the conventional flies lured into George and Martha's sinister web. But as Mike Nichols directs them, they don't bring enough initial squareness to their parts, so their disintegration during the game-playing of their hosts happens too swiftly. What makes Burton's performance so memorable is his ability to shift moods, from sullen to mocking, from beleaguered to triumphant, in an instant. He also quite brilliantly suggests George's only barely latent homoerotic attraction to Nick, making it clear that he's titillated by the very idea of Martha's sleeping with the younger man. Taylor falters only in letting her Martha get too shrill for too long: A slower crescendo to her shrewishness would have been welcome in many scenes. Oscars went to Taylor and Dennis, but Burton lost to Paul Scofield in A Man for All Seasons (Fred Zinnemann, 1966) and Segal to Walter Matthau in The Fortune Cookie (Billy Wilder, 1966). Oscars also went to Haskell Wexler for black-and-white cinematography, Richard Sylbert and George James Hopkins for black-and-white art direction and set decoration, and Irene Sharaff for black-and-white costuming. This was the last year in which these categories were divided into color and black-and-white. It's likely that if the color/black-and-white division had been eliminated a year earlier, the film would have missed out on some of those honors. Though he was a noted cinematographer, Wexler doesn't do his best work on Virginia Woolf, partly because Nichols, making his directing debut, called on him to do some close-up shots that not only don't hold focus but also distract from the essence of the drama, the interplay of its four characters, something easier to maintain on a stage than in a move. Nominations also went to Ernest Lehman as the film's producer and screenwriter, Nichols as director, George Groves for sound, Sam O'Steen for film editing, and Alex North for score. Oh, and if you're wondering why the title is sung to "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush" instead of "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?", essentially killing the joke, it's because the Disney studios, who owned the rights to the tune, wanted too much money.

Now I’m on a trip down memory lane. Stephen McHattie and Lance Henrickson also both guest starred as villains on the 1980s TV series, Beauty and the Beast, which is the show that dropped me down the fanficcing rabbit hole for the first time.

Beauty and the Beast also had several well-known names on their writing/producing staff, including George R.R. Martin who would, not long after his stint on BatB ended, go on to write the first book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Game of Thrones. Also the writing/producing team of Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who would soon after be hired by Chris Carter to work on TXF.
Jay Acovone played the recurring role of Joe Maxwell on BatB and would later play Detective Curtis on TXF episode Demons and later go on to play Duffy Haskell in the 8th season. Not looking up the episode names cuz, nope.

Python Hints and Tips for Professionals
Author: Peter Ranieri
Download Now
Python features a dynamic type system and automatic memory management. It supports multiple programming paradigms, including object-oriented, imperative, functional and procedural, and has a large and comprehensive standard library.
Python interpreters are available for many operating systems. CPython, the reference implementation of Python, is open source software and has a community-based development model, as do nearly all of Python's other implementations. Python and CPython are managed by the non-profit Python Software Foundation.
Python is a multi-paradigm programming language. Object-oriented programming and structured programming are fully supported, and many of its features support functional programming and aspect-oriented programming (including by metaprogramming and metaobjects (magic methods)). Many other paradigms are supported via extensions, including design by contract and logic programming.
Python uses dynamic typing, and a combination of reference counting and a cycle-detecting garbage collector for memory management. It also features dynamic name resolution (late binding), which binds method and variable names during program execution.
Python's design offers some support for functional programming in the Lisp tradition. It has filter(), map(), and reduce() functions; list comprehensions, dictionaries, and sets; and generator expressions. The standard library has two modules (itertools and functools) that implement functional tools borrowed from Haskell and Standard ML.
The language's core philosophy is summarized in the document The Zen of Python (PEP 20), which includes aphorisms such as:
Beautiful is better than ugly
Explicit is better than implicit
Simple is better than complex
Complex is better than complicated
Readability counts
Rather than having all of its functionality built into its core, Python was designed to be highly extensible. This compact modularity has made it particularly popular as a means of adding programmable interfaces to existing applications. Van Rossum's vision of a small core language with a large standard library and easily extensible interpreter stemmed from his frustrations with ABC, which espoused the opposite approach.
While offering choice in coding methodology, the Python philosophy rejects exuberant syntax (such as that of Perl) in favor of a simpler, less-cluttered grammar. As Alex Martelli put it: "To describe something as 'clever' is not considered a compliment in the Python culture." Python's philosophy rejects the Perl "there is more than one way to do it" approach to language design in favor of "there should be one—and preferably only one—obvious way to do it".
Python's developers strive to avoid premature optimization, and reject patches to non-critical parts of the CPython reference implementation that would offer marginal increases in speed at the cost of clarity. When speed is important, a Python programmer can move time-critical functions to extension modules written in languages such as C, or use PyPy, a just-in-time compiler. Cython is also available, which translates a Python script into C and makes direct C-level API calls into the Python interpreter.
An important goal of Python's developers is keeping it fun to use. This is reflected in the language's name — a tribute to the British comedy group Monty Python — and in occasionally playful approaches to tutorials and reference materials, such as examples that refer to spam and eggs (from a famous Monty Python sketch) instead of the standard foo and bar.
A common neologism in the Python community is pythonic, which can have a wide range of meanings related to program style. To say that code is pythonic is to say that it uses Python idioms well, that it is natural or shows fluency in the language, that it conforms with Python's minimalist philosophy and emphasis on readability. In contrast, code that is difficult to understand or reads like a rough transcription from another programming language is called unpythonic.
