i love firealpaca but the color picker is SUCH a pain. how hard is it to have value adjuster things??
#the bin#idk 9fnim just not finding the option to show the value editors but i think it just doenst have them#its so much easier to make colors that look good together with those#all the fuckin tutorials u see ppl make abt how to puck colorsnthat look good together talk abt looking at the numbers or where they are on#the 2 bars and stuff. but firealoaca doesnt have those so its a huge pain. i really like the program but its SO fucking annoying#color is something i desperately wanna be batter with and firealpaca just sucks for it. it has the square and the wheel or bar but none of#the sliders to adjust only the hue or the saturation or anything. i NEED those. even fuckin ibis has those#its still a good program. it runs so smoothly and its most features id need and good brushes and the autosave works like. unbelievably well#ive never lost an image. even on my 2 prev laptops which were super bad. but man. why does the color thing gotta lack such important#basic things as that. there is a filter thing you can use to do it kinda but its super annoying.#i dont wanna have to open a separate program just to pick colors. esp cause i javent been able to find anything exclusively for that#theres apps but my ohone screen ofc look different to my laptop so it doesnt help.#i tried switching to krita bc of this but i didnt like it. ill have to try some other ones out. i hope that maybe one day theyll update it#and add it cause i dont wanna switch.#my sister uses csp and she says its nice. tahts like a one time purcase i think so i could maybe try it out. its got a demo i think#i also need to find a good 2d animation program. ive only found 1 for free that let you put audio in and i didnt like it so ill need to keep#looking. i pirated a mn old version of adobe animate like 5 years ago and i remember really liking how it worked so maybe ill try that#i like firealpacas animation feature. ut works pretty well for a program that isnt really made for animation and i already know the program#so its worth the kinda annoying bits. but i need something i can put audio into#i miss making art more. i feel sad that i dont much anymore. i get bored really quick or my body starts to hurt and i have to stop now

The Friday Roundup - Filmora Updates & PowerDirector Tips
What is new in Filmora 13
Wondershare have released the new version of Filmora 13 into the wild this week with a bunch of new features.
In this version there are a few more A.I. driven tools plus a couple of other upgrades.
Some of the A.I features are not really contained within the software itself but are gateways to other online A.I. services such as Chat GPT making it just a little more convenient to access them from within the program while you are working.
Others like the vocal removal tool are more like built-in features.
I haven’t really had a chance to check it all out yet but will update my review this week. In the meantime here’s Jacky with a run-through of all the new stuff.

PowerDirector – Tips on Working in the Storyboard View
One of the least often used features of nearly all video editing software is the Storyboard view in the editing process.
Just about every video editing program I know of has this as a feature and it is there for a very good reason.
In fact it is one of the best tools I know of for speeding up the editing process as a whole.
You will see many videos online offering tips for speeding up editing and just about all of them emphasize the need to organize your assets before you start working.
That means not just arranging them in folders and subfolders that make sense but showing clearly what they contain.
The same goes for re-naming your files to something that also makes sense as well.
If you do that then the storyboard view really comes into its own.
Most people organize, add to the library then pull it all on to the timeline and begin the first rough edit.
The problem here is that it is linear and doesn’t really give you that 60 foot overview you need.
Inevitably you start to scrub back and forth through the timeline finding things you have misplaced.
If you add a step of adding first to the storyboard view then making sure everything is there you can really save some time.

PowerDirector – Tips on Using Pan and Zoom
With the recent update of PowerDirector to the 2024 editing there was a complete (and overdue!) overhaul of the user interface.
This certainly caused some angst amongst existing users due to them being accustomed to the old layout but in reality it was a great improvement.
PowerDirector up until that point had been tacking on more and more features and modules for nearly five years and it was all getting a bit busy!
None of the old features were discarded with that update but many of them moved to different locations.
For new users this is no problem because they don’t know where anything is but for old users it has been a game of “find the feature!”
In the video below you can see how to access and control the Crop and Zoom feature in the new interface.

Is Your YouTube Channel Prepared for the Next Cyber Attack?
Right from the outset here let’s all agree that security online is not exactly the most interesting topic for discussion.
These days things like Two Factor Authentication tend to give us all a sense of security that perhaps it may not.
I think it is vitally important for everyone who has some kind of online presence to watch this video and more importantly take action.

How To Blur Video Background In Capcut Pc
This is a quick video demonstrated in Capcut of how to blur the background of any video.
To do this easily in any video editing software you need two basic tools.
The first is masking and the second is motion tracking.
In combination you need to be able to mask the subject then track that mask as the subject moves within the video.
You could do it manually by using keyframes and just stepping through the footage while repositioning the mask however on a longer project this would really take some time.

20 Tips & Tricks to get the Cinematic Look
OK so first up this is a very thinly veiled promotion of a new lighting product these guys are pushing so there’s that.
However at the end of the day there are some great tips here for easily manipulating the final image you get in your videos by changing, adjusting and repositioning your light sources.

Magic Studio in Canva – 3 Mind-blowing Features
One tool that I regularly use in my video projects is Canva.
Probably the main reason for this is that I have never really learned Photoshop or any similar image editing software.
In reality I don’t have enough of a need to do that so I have always tended to use quick and dirty photo editing.
Well that was until I ran across Canva which gives me the level of control I need without being overly complicated to use.
Recently they have been adding features based on A.I. models and you can see some of them in the video below and why I have been using it.

Ghost Effects in Fusion – DaVinci Resolve VFX Tutorial
In the interests of keeping things simple in what is an otherwise complicated interface, Casey Faris has been creating Fusion tutorials in that space.
These have been great for learning how to navigate Fusion and get know its properties.
However due to that simplicity the results he shows aren’t really indicative of what that module can actually do.
That’s why this week’s tutorial is such a good one.
Every video editing app on the market can to some degree mimic what Casey shows in the video below.
However doing it in Fusion adds a level of professionalism to the end product that no consumer level program can match.

View and take action on invalid references Sign in to Studio Content Manager. From the left menu, select Issues. In the filter bar click Status and then Action Required and then APPLY. Click the filter bar and select Issue type and then Invalid Reference and then APPLY. To narrow your search, select more filters: Sampled media, Open licenses, Other media, Questionable ownership, Mixed compilation, Video game soundtrack, Distinctness, and Potential violation of YouTube monetization policy. These filters represent the reasons a reference could be marked as invalid. Note: You can also get to this page directly from the Dashboard by clicking Invalid References in the Issues column. Click an invalid reference with an Action required status. A detail page opens to show more details about the reference, including ownership info. Click Play on the video player and review the potentially invalid segment of the reference. Above the video player, there’s more info about why the segment was marked as potentially invalid. The video player’s progress bar, it shows what percentage of the reference is considered potentially invalid. Note: Claims made from a potentially invalid segment are automatically set to pending. These claims can’t be confirmed as active until the invalid reference issue is resolved. You can review examples of pending claims under Sample of videos with claims pending due to invalid segment. Choose an action to take: EXCLUDE SEGMENT: If the segment shows content you don’t own the rights to, such as public domain footage, select this option to exclude it from the reference. If you exclude the segment, any claims based on the segment are automatically released. Back on the Issues page, you can exclude segments for multiple invalid references at once. Select the invalid references whose segments you want to exclude and, in the top banner, click EXCLUDE INVALID REFERENCE. REQUEST REVIEW: If you own exclusive rights to the content and the reference follows the reference guidelines, select this option to request a re-evaluation. If the segment is confirmed as valid after re-evaluation, pending claims based on the segment can be reviewed and confirmed as active. Note: Requesting re-evaluations of multiple invalid references at once is not available.

ever wonder why spotify/discord/teams desktop apps kind of suck?
i don't do a lot of long form posts but. I realized that so many people aren't aware that a lot of the enshittification of using computers in the past decade or so has a lot to do with embedded webapps becoming so frequently used instead of creating native programs. and boy do i have some thoughts about this.
for those who are not blessed/cursed with computers knowledge Basically most (graphical) programs used to be native programs (ever since we started widely using a graphical interface instead of just a text-based terminal). these are apps that feel like when you open up the settings on your computer, and one of the factors that make windows and mac programs look different (bc they use a different design language!) this was the standard for a long long time - your emails were served to you in a special email application like thunderbird or outlook, your documents were processed in something like microsoft word (again. On your own computer!). same goes for calendars, calculators, spreadsheets, and a whole bunch more - crucially, your computer didn't depend on the internet to do basic things, but being connected to the web was very much an appreciated luxury!
that leads us to the eventual rise of webapps that we are all so painfully familiar with today - gmail dot com/outlook, google docs, google/microsoft calendar, and so on. as html/css/js technology grew beyond just displaying text images and such, it became clear that it could be a lot more convenient to just run programs on some server somewhere, and serve the front end on a web interface for anyone to use. this is really very convenient!!!! it Also means a huge concentration of power (notice how suddenly google is one company providing you the SERVICE) - you're renting instead of owning. which means google is your landlord - the services you use every day are first and foremost means of hitting the year over year profit quota. its a pretty sweet deal to have a free email account in exchange for ads! email accounts used to be paid (simply because the provider had to store your emails somewhere. which takes up storage space which is physical hard drives), but now the standard as of hotmail/yahoo/gmail is to just provide a free service and shove ads in as much as you need to.
webapps can do a lot of things, but they didn't immediately replace software like skype or code editors or music players - software that requires more heavy system interaction or snappy audio/visual responses. in 2013, the electron framework came out - a way of packaging up a bundle of html/css/js into a neat little crossplatform application that could be downloaded and run like any other native application. there were significant upsides to this - web developers could suddenly use their webapp skills to build desktop applications that ran on any computer as long as it could support chrome*! the first applications to be built on electron were the late code editor atom (rest in peace), but soon a whole lot of companies took note! some notable contemporary applications that use electron, or a similar webapp-embedded-in-a-little-chrome as a base are:
microsoft teams
notion
vscode
discord
spotify
anyone! who has paid even a little bit of attention to their computer - especially when using older/budget computers - know just how much having chrome open can slow down your computer (firefox as well to a lesser extent. because its just built better <3)
whenever you have one of these programs open on your computer, it's running in a one-tab chrome browser. there is a whole extra chrome open just to run your discord. if you have discord, spotify, and notion open all at once, along with chrome itself, that's four chromes. needless to say, this uses a LOT of resources to deliver applications that are often much less polished and less integrated with the rest of the operating system. it also means that if you have no internet connection, sometimes the apps straight up do not work, since much of them rely heavily on being connected to their servers, where the heavy lifting is done.
taking this idea to the very furthest is the concept of chromebooks - dinky little laptops that were created to only run a web browser and webapps - simply a vessel to access the google dot com mothership. they have gotten better at running offline android/linux applications, but often the $200 chromebooks that are bought in bulk have almost no processing power of their own - why would you even need it? you have everything you could possibly need in the warm embrace of google!
all in all the average person in the modern age, using computers in the mainstream way, owns very little of their means of computing.
i started this post as a rant about the electron/webapp framework because i think that it sucks and it displaces proper programs. and now ive swiveled into getting pissed off at software services which is in honestly the core issue. and i think things can be better!!!!!!!!!!! but to think about better computing culture one has to imagine living outside of capitalism.
i'm not the one to try to explain permacomputing specifically because there's already wonderful literature ^ but if anything here interested you, read this!!!!!!!!!! there is a beautiful world where computers live for decades and do less but do it well. and you just own it. come frolic with me Okay ? :]
*when i say chrome i technically mean chromium. but functionally it's same thing

🌟 New
On web, the post editor now always uses your device timezone for scheduling and backdating posts. Your blog’s timezone setting is now only used for your blog’s queue schedule, and for calculating timestamps on your blog’s custom theme (if it has one).
Also on web, in the same vein as the above point, the publish times we show in the queue page are now also always displayed in your device timezone, rather than blog timezone.
In the iOS app, the search button has returned home to the bottom row, and actions like creating a new post or message have been moved to a floating action button at the bottom-right.
🛠 Fixed
You can once-again select text in the latest iOS app.
Ads with audio will no longer auto-play in the latest Android app. If you’re still encountering this, please report the ad directly from your dashboard by using the 3 dots menu (●●●), or contact support with the name of the advertiser, the URL it went to, and the approximate date/time you saw it.
