Le Jardin, Paris, by Gaëlle Geniller

"Le Jardin" (the garden) is a Parisian cabaret owned by a woman meeting growing success. All the women working there are named after a flower and they feel like family. Rose, a 19 years old boy, was born and grew up in this establishment. He also wants to be a dancer and to perform on stage, in front of a crowd, just like his friends. He will quickly become the main attraction.

I absolutely loved this graphic novel. A friend made me discover the artist a while ago and I've been obsessed with her art ever since. So when I had the opportunity to buy this, I did.

It's an adorable story, the themes it deals with (gender, how to deal with people's looks, being perceived as a woman in society...) are approached with subtlety and care.

The relationship between Aimé and Rose is so romantic but can also be read as platonic (unless you follow the author on instagram, haha... even though it's where I got confirmation that Aimé is on the ace spectrum). Anyway, loved it, I can't wait to read Gaëlle Geniller's next book when it comes out in 2024.

"Le Jardin" est un cabaret parisien au succès grandissant dirigé par une femme. Toutes celles qui y travaillent ont un nom de fleur et l'ambiance y est familiale. Rose, un garçon de 19 ans, est né et a grandi dans cet établissement. Il souhaite à son tour être danseur et se produire sur la scène, devant un public, comme ses amies. Il va rapidement en devenir l'attraction principale.

J’ai absolument adoré cette BD. Une amie m’a fait découvrir l’artiste y’a un moment et depuis je suis obnubilée par ses dessins. Donc, quand j’ai eu l’occasion de l’acheter j’ai sauté dessus.

C’est une histoire adorable, les thèmes abordés (le genre, comment gérer le regard des gens, être perçu comme une femme dans la société…) l’étaient avec subtilité et délicatesse.

La relation entre Aimé et Rose est tellement romantique mais peut aussi être lue comme platonique (si on suit pas l’autrice sur instagram, haha… même si c’est sur insta que j’ai eu la confirmation que Aimé est sur le spectre de l’asexualité donc bon). Bref, gros coup de cœur, j’attends avec hâte 2024 pour la sortie de la prochaine BD de Gaëlle Geniller.

Another question! Your ocs, what are they like? Where's they're involvement in the story?

Rosemary Corvus: Rosie is the elemental master of Fauna, her powers allow to communicate with and summon animals to aid her in battle. She's Cole's quiet best friend then later turned adopted sister. They met at The Marty Oppenheimer School of performing arts. Though unlike Cole she was there because she wanted to be due to her passion for guitar, but found it wasn't what she hoping for and left some time after he had. They reunite in ninjago city during the events in the episode Can Of Worms after running into Zane then helping him rescue the others then joins the team upon helping them return home. Fast forwarding to season 4 she meets and developes a crush on Skylor during the tournament and then later forms a romantic relationship.

Gertrude Hellebore: Gertie's a gracefully chaotic witch that was raised/trained by the oni Mystaké and I based her off circus cotton candy. One of her purposes in the story is to explore Ninjagos magical system, which I'm planning on going into detail when posting her designs. She joins the cast during Childs Play and leaves her mothers tea shop to help Nya and Wu re-age the ninja and then stays with them for the rest the events that follow. She developes a friendship with Nya then realizes she has a crush on her after Nya breaks things off with Jay season 3. Nya gets feelings for her as well and these two very intelligent girls end up being oblivious idiots for a bit before finally getting together in season 7.

Cirrus Avril: I don't have him completely figured out yet but Cirrus is the elemental master of clouds and a teenage king that rules over a sky nation called Atmos. He appears in earlier seasons as a childhood friend of Lloyd's before he and his mom are discovered as missing royalty by the former king and first em of clouds, Stratos. He's crowned king by the time of Season 13 where he's invited to Vania's birthday as well.

Oh and the first one, Paolo Barbieri, italian artist, I fell in love with his art I was barely 5 and half of the things I like and my personality are basically his fault. His style is so- I can't describe it it's so beautiful it doesn't feel human, which it helps a lot when you are illustrating Greek gods lol. Seriously one day, just once I want to make a full illustration using HIS style and make it so good it could pass as his work. But like, for my own satisfaction, I could die happy after that ahahahdhgff

There are more of them, everyone I follow, every artist is somewhat of an artspiration to me. Like "omg you're an artist how cool is that!!!!! Let me see your style! Let me see what's in your brain and let's see if I can do it too!!!!"
