Song review #2

458 - CIX

Verses: Honestly, were very pleasing to listen to. Really, gets you into the main mood of the song. The depression of love. These verses truly are something.

Chorus: Great transition! This is what I mean when I say to people that some songs do not have a good transition to the chorus, this is the perfect example of how a good transition should be! I was so relieved to listen to something like this really. I was so happy.

Post-chorus: Some sounds in here annoyed me, but really it wasn't that bad, I only realised this after 7 listens. But, they are annoying to me for some other people it could be fine. But it's great. More upbeat, perfect for a post-chorus.

Dance Break: I didn't expect this, but it didn't feel out of place which is great, it felt like it was supposed to be there in the first place.

Rap: Felt a little misplaced, but really was good, BX really has a good flow in this rap and was quite enjoyable to listen. Only thing is that it felt a little misplaced that's all.

Bridge: This is definitely one of the most heavenly bridges I have heard so far. Not the most, but definitely one of the most. It was truly very impressive, made me fall in love with this song even more than I was supposed to. Truly phenomenonal.

Choreography: From what I saw from the music video, it seemed really good. I can still play those small clips of them dancing in my head rn. It definitely looks pleasing to watch.

Visuals/Fashion: Truly they were amazing. The darkness really made the fashion stand out a little more and fits the vibe of the song that is wanted to get to the audience.

Lyrics: Really made sense. Probably one of my most favourite lyrics in 2022 so far. Although, the "Ferrari" part was definitely not needed. It's not that bad after a while (when I first heard it I kinda cringed honestly). However, compared to other lyrics this year, definitely one of the best. It captures the feeling to the audience perfectly.

Camera work: There are a few things in which I would've tweaked in the camera work, but honestly very impressive from such a small boy group. The intro camera work and the one with what looked like a fallen angel, looked impeccable and very pleasing to look at. Very good and smart camera work.

Overall: A massive 10/10 for me. I've listened to CIX through Spotify, it was recommended to me, and this is the first comeback I've been able to see, I feel bad that I haven't paid attention to them, this group is definitely an unseen treasure. This song was able to create and convey the depressing feeling of loneliness and the loss of a lover, or the feeling of, right person, wrong time so perfectly. It's unbelievable to me tbh. Truly, this song is a masterpiece. I'll probably be looking more into CIX soon. This song was a journey of understanding the human emotions and I'm glad that CIX are the ones that led me through these emotions. Grateful and speechless. I have nothing else to say.

Without You:

Overall: This song has a messy chorus, yet reflects the feeling of how disillusioned you feel when falling in love. It's messy, but it's messy with a good meaning. The messiness almost makes it feel like it makes sense in this song. This made me feel an overall nostalgia. I really enjoyed listening to this song.

Bend The Rules:

Overall: Probably my least favourite track from this EP. But there are parts that I like. The outro is truly brilliant. A nice way to end all of the chaos and havoc that was happening in this song. This song's main problem is that it's just not my type of music. Which translates to it's good just not my thing. So, honestly really good.

Drown In Luv:

Overall: This is how a ballad is done properly. I enjoyed this ballad, all the way through. A lot of companies think that ballads aren't important, but they really are. It's a song. It's a song that ends everything and shows the beginnings of the new era that is going to come through the artist. This isn't my favourite ballad. But, CIX really showed that there is an importance within ballads, especially when we're getting an EP like this. Only problem I have with it is that it's really good and yet finished quite abruptly in my opinion. However, everything else was really good!

Favourite K-Pop Releases of August 2022

1. Tempest: Can't Stop Shining

Title: It's so cute and fun! I love this bright concept on them, they're shining (lol) so much with it. Their debut song earlier this year immediately caught my attention with how fresh it felt, so I'm very happy they continued on that path. If I have one critique, it would be that I feel like the main hook could be a bit stronger, but that's just a nitpick.

Album: The album continues this bright feeling, and fits nicely in with their debut album. They seem to be on a good way on establishing a signature sound for themselves. My favourite b-sides are Young & Wild and Start Up.

2. Billlie: Ring ma Bell

Title: Wow, I really wouldn't have expected Billlie to release a rock song, but they did so well with it! Since I listen to a lot of rock and rock-adjacent music I tend to be quite choosy when it comes to kpop songs attempting these genres. Here too I had the impression that the song was holding back and could have gone a lot harder, but I still really like it overall. The members look fantastic with this styling.

Album: A pleasant listen, my favourite song was Sun palace.

3. ONF: Your Song

Title: Am I biased because I miss ONF so much and am so overjoyed that they released this? Probably, but that doesn't change my love for this song. It starts slow, really highlighting the beautiful vocals and emotions, but soon picks up in intensity, delivering the typical fun and catchy ONF experience. It's the perfect mid-enlistment song.

Album: I quite like the balance of new songs and old hits, though I have to admit I haven't been able to hear much of a difference between the remastered and the original versions. Runaway is the new song that stood out to me the most.

KPOP! If I had to choose my top 3 KPOP group it would be ATEEZ, The Boyz, and IVE. However, I also love other groups such as CIX, Monsta X, ITZY, KIOF, NewJeans and aespa. (A lot of girl groups actually)

Music! I’m drawn to many genres, I listen to Pop-punk, Rock-punk, Pop, R&B, and many others. (Ps. I can’t let a day pass without listening to music)

Movies! While I have many favorites, it’s hard to mention them all. But my top 3 picks are Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Girl, Interrupted, and The Hunger Games. You can check my letterboxd for further!

Song review #1

After LIKE - IVE

Verses: I really enjoyed them, their singing were in sync with the beat of the song (which nowadays some other groups don't do and it annoys me a little bit), they all sounded gorgeous!

Pre-chorus: Probably my most favourite part of the song! I can't wait for this beautiful pre-chorus that gets me ready for the chorus that gets even better! But, really this part was my personal favourite!

Chorus: IVE has done something to choruses which makes it sound like an IVE chorus, they've made their own sound, they're rookies as well, so I am amazed by this chorus, I thought no chorus could beat love dive and I was proven wrong.

Rap: Wow! Rei and Gaeul got their well deserved raps! They slayed as well! I'm honestly so proud of them, they're great rappers as well and definitely have the potential to become even better rappers. I hope they do more raps in the future. Probably the most iconic part in the song tho.

Bridge: not that different to the chorus, except a slower instrumental it had nothing much to stand out, but still a good bridge!

Choreography: More simple than other times, but still really good and enjoyable! Can't wait to learn this choreography!

Visuals: Everything visually in the music video was put to perfection! The different sets for the members really made them shine individually, which was a huge problem in love dive and eleven. The fashion was great! Gaeul really slayed in this era visually, couldn't keep my eyes of her!

Lyrics: some parts of it was confusing, but the lyrics made much more sense than it did in their previous releases, at least for me it did. But, overall not bad.

Camera work: The camera work was amazing! Really good! It was better in love dive era, 100 percent, but still really impressive on after like era as well! The camera people need a raise rn!

Overall: I am a dive, so obviously my opinion on the song is biased, but I genuinely enjoyed this song, I also really liked the way that they used the sample from I will survive by Gloria Gaynor, the producers used it really wisely. I was worried about the sampling honestly, but turns out after like is a complete bop for me! Gaeul finally also got the lines she deserved and screen time as well. However, I'm disappointed that STARSHIP gave Liz little to no lines, even though she is the main vocalist, which she is also really stable live as well. Really proud of my girls this comeback! Definitely my soty! Things to be improved on for next time: better camera work, Liz more lines, gaeul getting center if their is a dance break in the next comeback (she is the main dancer)?, more than two tracks pls next time or soon and definitely a better album cover (this has been feedback since the beginning for me tbh). Definitely a 10/10 for me tho, loved this comeback!

My Satisfaction - IVE

Overall: This is definitely a sound that IVE doesn't do and I would never imagine them doing. However, this went just fine with them. They killed this song. Literally a pure villain anthem. I personally loved the ending with Yujin. Everything about it was near to perfection. Obviously, it's not perfect because it's a b-side, but yet again their b-sides are the best. Definitely a song I will listen to more often. This comeback was brilliant just like their previous releases and this comeback has really made me decide that IVE is one of my ult groups, they're too good. As someone else said "they only have themselves to compete with".
