Detroit native, Tee Grizzley, played to a crowd of about 500 this past Sunday at Pontiac’s Crofoot Ballroom. While the venue was only filled to about half capacity, it seemed like it was busting at the seams; A tightly packed sea of fans crowded the stage as the opening DJ mixed everyone’s favorite hip-hop jams. The fans were from different walks of life and different areas within the community, but music was able to bring everyone together for a huge dance party.

The 23-year-old rapper took the stage at 1:30 and played until last call. While the set was short, he played all of his hits and every soul in the audience cheered the words right along with him. Not many young rap artists have the stamina and talent to flow the way he can, playing mash-ups of different tracks with fellow artists on stage. This is not a show you want to miss!

Tee Grizzley released “First Day Out” in 2016. The track had over 2 Million views on YouTube in the first 3 weeks and managed to reach 31 on the US R&B Charts, and 67 on Billboard’s Hot 100 (as of May 16, 2017). He has since recorded with Lil Yachty (“From the D to the A”) and Cash Kounty Pilot (“Any Means Necessary”)

If you’re a hip-hop fan, be sure to catch Tee Grizzley on his rise to fame. Between the energy and the talent he brings, we should hear many more great things from this up-and-coming artist.

Concert Review: A Lesson in Romantics 10-Year Anniversary Tour

Date: April 30, 2017

Venue: The Crofoot Ballroom, Pontiac, MI

Overall Rating: (★★★★☆)

Opening the night was Milestones (★★★☆☆), whose mix of angry, driving riffs and bass-led tracks got the crowd enticed in the show from the start. The band did a good job of introducing the bands to come, while simultaneously focusing on playing their music and warming up the fans and getting everyone moving.

After Milestones came Knuckle Puck (★★★★☆). Although I was unsure how a crowd of Mayday Parade fans would react to Knuckle Puck, a band with few similar musical characteristics, there were many fans in the room (myself included) who kept the energy high during the second set. Although I wish Knuckle Puck had played less from their older releases and more from their latest album, 2015’s Copacetic, they had a strong set full of high-energy tracks and mellow interludes to make their set more dynamic. The true highlight was the final song, “Pretense”, in which the room shook with the volume of people singing along.

Finally came Mayday Parade (★★★★☆), playing their debut album A Lesson In Romantics in full. Playing in album order allowed them to open with major hit “Jamie All Over”, catching the attention and heart of everyone in the room. The subsequent set was full of energy and passion, as though this wasn’t a 10-year tour at all but rather the first time they were ever playing these songs. The resounding poignancy of “Miserable At Best”, played with just piano and drums (and sung by the entire crowd) halfway through acted as a marker between the high voltage first half of the album and the decrescendo of the second. After finishing the album in full (and evoking some tears during “You Be The Anchor…”), the band moved into phase two of their set, playing selected tracks from their subsequent albums. Although they could not match the energy of the band’s debut, they still had punch and kept the room energized for the remainder of the night. Overall, even after 10 years Mayday Parade has shown not only their versatility and resilience, but that their passion for the music they make and the people that consume it has never wavered.

Holy shit I miss live music

This was April 2017 - I just saw the link in me and @rangerdeon ‘s snapchat history and decided to watch the video again.

Second story of the Crofoot ballroom in a shitty room with one window and the walls and ceiling painted black. And less than 200 people all yelling the fuck out of the lyrics for an hour (and my 22 year old daughter that I dragged with me, moderately confused)

And one guy who yelled THUNDERBIRD!! every five minutes until Dan (aaron) said “dude we only have twelve songs we’re gonna get to it eventually”

I feel the memory of the high and the euphoria that sticks in your belly after a concert watching this clip but don’t necessarily feel the energy

We Came As Romans — Joshua Moore [guitar], Dave Stephens [vocals], Lou Cotton [guitar], Andy Glass [bass] and David Puckett [drums] — have shared the video for their brand new song 'From the First Note'.

'From the First Note' and 'Carry the Weight' served as the first tracks that the band released since singer Kyle Pavone's tragic passing in August 2018.

"'FTFN' is a song the celebrates the time that we got to spend with Kyle and acknowledges how truly remarkable of a brother and bandmate he was," says Moore. "Lyrically, I was able to reference 'To Plant a Seed and 'Tracing Back Roots,' -which were both written about the start of the band and how we lived together. I was able to take Kyle's recorded vocal from 'TPA' and fit it into the bridge of the song, so we can always hear him when we listen and play it."

"We wrote 'From The First Note' as a promise to Kyle to not only preserve the amazing moments and memories we had together, but to continue carrying on the legacy of everything we built together," says Glass. "The video portrays the band playing in a dream-like state, surrounded by beautiful colors and flowers. Our albums throughout the years have had themes of roots, branches, and overall growth. So we felt it was only right to create something that not only captured that essence but persevered it as well."

The band will also embark on an 10th anniversary tour celebrating their landmark, 2009-released album To Plant A Seed. The tour kicks off on March 5 in Chicago and runs through April 11 in Pontiac, Michigan, and will feature support from The Devil Wears Prada, Gideon and Dayseeker. All dates are below.

To Plant A Seed was a definitive sonic statement for We Came As Romans and remains a fan favourite to this day. It's only fitting that the band commemorate the release.

"We're really excited to announce the 10-year anniversary tour for our first record To Plant A Seed," said Moore at the time tour was announced. "Being able to watch our fans connect with us through music over the last decade has been an amazing privilege, and it all started with To Plant A Seed. Way back in 2009 when we recorded it, we had no idea where it would take us or what we were really even doing, and it's awesome to see that we can play these songs still, and feel that connection with you."

He continued, "But over the course of 10 years, we've released four other albums and we're even working on a fifth! With that being said, we are going to be throwing these songs into the vault of old WCAR — and retiring them from all future setlists after this tour. So make sure you grab your tickets and come hear these songs one last time live."

TORRES (the project of Mackenzie Scott) will be releasing her new album Silver Tongue on January 31 via Merge Records. The third (and final) single ahead of the release is “Dressing America,” a spanking track that really hits a nostalgic era of indie rock for me. The warm tones of the track with Scott’s vocals give the song an earthiness that makes you just want to nestle in. The soft synths and rhythm remind me of Yo La Tengo’s version of “Gentle Hour” while the vocals and melodies remind me of Frightened Rabbit’s “Keep Yourself Warm”. “Dressing America” is addictingly good and I really can’t stop listening to it.
