Last year my niece's school held diya decoration competition. So this year she wanted to do it again. We painted the diyas and sun-dried them on the roof alongside the firecrackers. I don't like louder firecrackers, but only simple things like phuljharies, anar etc.
Then we made rangoli. Actually, I did and she just stood and choose colours. While I love making rangoli, I am not very good at it. I could never make the design symmetric.
Diwali isn't just festival of light here, but also the day when we pay obeisance to our ancestors. As my grandmother died last January and her barsi is still few months away, we couldn't decorate our house with earthen lamps this year. We only lighted diyas at Puja Ghar, Tulsi Chaura and main door.
My brother decorated our house with string lights and I decorated our tea table with candles and lamps.
I taught my niece how to safely burst firecrackers. Initially, she was scared, but then she started competing with me.
Then we lighted the Chinese lanterns.
Overall diwali was fun, but I missed lighting diyas and decorating my entire house with it. That is always my favourite part. My brother loves decorating with string lights and other electronic stuffs, but for me diwali is incomplete without diyas.
The feminine urge to respond with a heartfelt "haayee" to the adorable videos he shares of himself in a kurta. It's the sweetest temptation to pamper him like a little baby, like my own precious "cuttu patutu meow".
Diwali 2023: The Date, Time, Muhurat, and Significance of the Six-Day Festival of Lights
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a widely celebrated festival in India and by Indian communities around the world. It is known as the "Festival of Lights" and typically lasts for six days. Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
During this festive period, people decorate their homes with oil lamps, candles, and colorful rangoli designs. Fireworks and firecrackers light up the night sky, adding to the joyous atmosphere. Families come together to exchange gifts, share delicious sweets, and offer prayers to deities like Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and well-being.
One of the significant customs of Diwali is the cleaning and renovating of homes, signifying the removal of negativity and the welcoming of positivity. It is a time for forgiveness, reconciliation, and strengthening of bonds with loved ones.
Overall, Diwali is a time of joy, unity, and spiritual reflection, making it one of the most cherished and widely celebrated festivals in India.
