one thing that always gets me whenever i read inuyasha modern au fics is that inuyasha is supposedly "the slacker" or the guy who doesn't try hard on anything academia related, and that always struck me as odd bc you're telling me inuyasha wouldn't be competing with, say, koga for rank 1? that he wouldn't study his ass off in the subjects he's actually interested in? that he wouldn't pour his everything into extracurriculars he cares about? he has his aloof moments in canon but ultimately he's a hard worker and i think that trait should be reflected in aus!
plus if we're thinking about the setting here, inuyasha's canon behavior is greatly influenced by his upbringing (and later lack thereof). putting him in an environment (modern au, lack of youkai discrimination) where his talents are cultivated instead of looked down upon would give us a very different character. it's always interesting to me whenever i see canon-typical inuyasha behavior in an au where his mom is alive because it suggests that his mistrust and gruff behavior are just part of his personality and not largely a result of childhood events. i feel like modern aus are an opportunity to see how he might have grown if not for the death of his mother + father & the consistent threat looming over him as a child. what would his personality be like then? how would his first meeting with kagome go considering that? his dynamics with his older brother? his goals? it's something that could be explored in a fic taking place in the feudal realm but it's kind of difficult to just subtract the discrimination aspect that comes with that setting...just things to think abt ig!

bc rereading it i was like. O_O. is he. not talking about vil.
i was thinking like "the first read through you're definitely meant to think so, and vil did absolutely change rook's life, but with context from both book 6 and his halloween vignette, what he's describing here leans more towards the latter" which is like. masterful gaybait i can't even be mad. it's like that post saying "some gaybaiting is like a box propped up with a stick and a block of cheese underneath" except this has all the intricacy of a steampunk clock.
but my VERY shoddy japanese skills r telling me the line translates more to "beauty in your eyes and the darkness, lighting up your entire life for you—in a time in your existence when you'll be able to have [such an experience] (expanding on the prev line where he says they'll be able to understand his ideology in the future)"
^ and i probably mangled this so bad but the main point is i didn't hear him refer to a "someone" like he does in the english tl & i'm wondering if i missed it or if it was in fact added!!!

something that i wish thirteen's era had covered more fully are the sheer weirdnesses in this body she regenerated into. why did she regenerate with brown hair that was already half-dyed blonde? how did she have ear piercings as part of a fresh new body? in what world does it make sense for her newly regenerated body to have cleanly shaven legs? thirteen has all these little feminine things going the second she appears, and it's never noticed within the show. and while i guess the masculine-presenting doctors also had little weirdnesses (Ten freshly regenerated with hair gel already applied), it feels more noticeable when the alien doctor falls in so hard with the very specific beauty trends of twenty-first century earth, in every element.
idk i just think having a female doctor could have been room for such growth, but these unspoken little markers that require work and choice being shown as innate and present the minute the doctor appears female strikes me as...i dunno, like guys who think women only look right if they're wearing makeup? like the female-presentation shtick women go through is in any way natural. the thirteenth doctor often seems surprised to be labeled a woman, and yet she's wearing eyeliner. who put that on?

The thing about Peggy is, she doesn’t even like Steve?
She patronises him. She sexually assaults him. She stalks him. She shows him compassion only for as long as it looks like her efforts to attach him will be successful, but the instant it looks like her efforts have failed she violently attacks him and sneers at his dreams.
(How could she be so vicious and so dismissive so easily, if she actually liked him? Shouldn’t she be heartbroken? It’s not the wounded relationship that matters to her; it’s the wounded pride. Steve could’ve dropped down dead, at that moment, and she wouldn’t miss a wink of sleep.)
She dines out off having slightly known Steve, despite never dating him, and yet is enraged when people point it out.
(Why is the ass-covering patronage of every other powerful man in her life acceptable, except his?)
She refuses to acknowledge any of his loved ones (shouldn’t they be beloved by her, too?) because she is so desperate to establish herself as the only legitimate connection to him. And yet she colludes with his sworn enemies, across multiple universes, and even lies about it (omits to tell him) to his face, when his life is in danger because of it.
(How could someone do this, if they actually liked him?)
Peggy thinks she is ‘not like the other girls’ who throw themselves at Steve, just because while she is throwing herself at him she also talks to him like he is a child (because that’s how she talks to all men.)
She thinks she is actually better than Steve, since he is a man, and she thinks all men are essentially terrible and that this is feminism. She must be better, even though she acts just like the worst of men, because a thing only counts as bad if a man is doing it (eg. sexual assault) and only counts as good if Peggy is doing it (eg. if actual-feminist Daniel Souza dares to speak up for women in the workplace, she will tell him to shut up. Likewise, her turning a gun on Steve is #Girlbossing but Red Skull and Alexander Pierce doing it is Evil.)
This is why, despite Steve being an internationally famous decorated war hero, a film-star and a heartthrob and the world’s only supersoldier, while Peggy is an unfulfilled unimportant desk jockey... she still turns up to announce that she will one day allow Steve to dance with her, as if she is doing him a favour.
It’s because she sees Steve as essentially the same as before serum -- that is, pathetic (in need of help to get female attention.) Still pathetic, in her eyes.
But since to everyone else Steve has become a prize, she has to take Steve down a peg by reminding him of their little secret -- that despite how great he may seem, she is superior to him -- and she really believes it’s true!
(This belief is baseless. What If accidentally confirmed that she can only match Steve’s accomplishments if she is given serum... so she is not his equal without serum, let alone his superior, despite being born with considerable advantages over him.)
And this treatment of Steve as pathetic, before and after serum, we’re supposed to see as her ‘appreciating him’ for who he really is inside.
But her treatment of Steve is only un-starry-eyed (or so she likes to think) and businesslike because Steve is a man, and she thinks all men are inferior to her. He isn’t special.
(Just as, she is the only woman in the First Avenger, and their big connection is supposed to be over the allegedly-similar discrimination levelled against women as against disabled men... but this is experienced by all women, so saying she’s ‘The’ woman for Steve amounts to saying that she only qualifies for the job because she’s female, and for no other reason.)
The fact is, while Steve pays lip service to the idea of wanting a woman, he never actually acts like he wants a woman.
And does Peggy even want a man?
She comes across as someone who has remained single because her view of herself is so inflated and her view of men is so dim that they can never match up.
It’s like she’s got a reluctant mental shopping list of ‘insanely lofty traits a man would need to have to finally be worthy of Her Majesty,’ and she only awkwardly goes about trying to get Steve at all because she has realised that this famous neatly-pressed hunk Captain America has managed to tick all of the boxes, somehow. He’s a trophy she feels she ought to have, but isn’t really bothered about having.
(But then she gets repeatedly annoyed whenever that pesky little ‘Steve Rogers’ twerp keeps getting in the way of her fantasy, wanting to do the right thing instead of just doing what she tells him, and has to be violently attacked to keep him in line.)
She doesn’t actually like Steve.

I just recently started following you so i don't have the full lore of your murderous gay religiously traumatized doggos, BUT, from my understanding, they are Italian and i don't know what part of Italy they are from, yet i can't help headcanoning Vasco as Tuscan, while Machete is probably from some part of Veneto. And as an Italian who has heard Tuscans and Veneto dialet, well it's an hilarious mental image.
Vasco is indeed Tuscan, Florentine to be specific. He comes from a wealthy and influential noble family that has lived in Florence for centuries. He's proud of his roots, and it's usually easy for strangers to tell where he's from. He's a resonably successful politician and has worked as an ambassador and representative of Florence on numerous occasions.
Machete is originally Sicilian (ironically about as far from Veneto as possible), although he was taken to mainland at young age and has lived in several places since then, before ending up in Rome. The way I see it, he exhibits very little local color, his demeanor and (even though Italian hadn't become a standardized language yet) way of speaking are formal, neutral and scarcely give away any hints about his personal history, at least in the 16th century canon.

Ghost and Roach being the type of best friends that do things like cuddling, laying on top of each other, going to each other's rooms and sometimes sleeping there, anoying each other constantly, sometimes even (more roach) giving kisses in the cheek and forehead (sometimes as a way to annoy but mostly as affection) and just being extremely close together but all very, platonically (maybe some people think they have a thing going on but no they don't, they are just best friends and have know each other for very long)
And then Soap comes
And kinda starts doing the same thing (after getting closer to Ghost) Roach and Ghost already do
And for sometime everyone is like 'Oh, this is normal, they're close friends too...'
Not Roach tho. Roach clocked those two dumbasses with the 🤨 stare the first time he saw them cuddling.
So one day he comes up to Ghost and is like: 'So you like Soap.'
Ghost: No, I don't???
Roach: 🧐 you cuddle with him.
Ghost: We do the same!
Roach: Yeah but you look stupid while doing it.
Ghost: No, I don't.
Roach: 🧐🤨
Ghost: ...
Ghost: okay maybe I do like him a little but-
Roach: 😏
Ghost: I'll kill you
All I'm saying is that Roach and Ghost are besties and AS THE BEST FRIEND Roach has the job to call the bullshit when he sees it
