The Justice League crossover movie trying to hype up Grimm as some genuine threat that terrifies the League because 'they're soulless murder monsters" is the most hilarious shit to me.

Sure, Grimm would horrific for the guys who regularly deal with Vandal Savage, the immortal caveman constantly seeking to upend society to remold in his own image; Brainiac the unfeeling alien who shrinks cities to put in bottles and destroying the rest of the planet to make his snowglobe collection more valuable; and Darkseid, the embodiment of evil running a planet-wide fascist regime seeking to strip the free will of every being in the universe, who also has a virtually endless army of soulless murder monsters.

And then, despite desperately trying to make Grimm seem really scary, the movie still treats them like completely disposable cannon fodder our heroes effortlessly mow through.

The clips coming out for Justice League x RWBY are arctually getting me excited for it now, but I do think we should also talk about how they made Jessica in the movie paler. Like there's a pretty clear difference here

Okay, I have finally watched The Justice League x RWBY movie and it was pretty fun. It's *VERY* dorky, but it has some really great moments and also some "wow, are we really doing this?" moments. 

 And let's hear it for the MVP of the movie: Jessica Cruz!

I've been seeing 'RWBY should have crossed over with Teen Titans not Justice League' but like

Beacon isn't a high school, it's more a college/university than anything else, the main cast aside from Ruby are all nearing the end of their teens (especially at the current point in canon)

plus it would've felt infantilising, like RWBY isn't 'good enough' for the big leagues so they need to be put in the kiddy pool with characters who would skew younger than most everyone except Ruby

RWBYxJL was fun, obviously more of a RWBY film than a JL film. But I’m not much of a DC buff, so I’m not complaining. Besides it’s RWBY’s first movie, and the JL have plenty of (and better) movies already, and will have a lot more in the future. 

The weakest aspects were definitely the JL, but that’s expected given how different these versions are from their iconic versions. And the contrivances & conveniences to get them to fit in the story at all. Still fun characters, and most of the dynamics were enjoyable. I might not enjoy it as much if I was more of a DC fan, but just as someone only mildly into DC/JL, I don’t mind it. Although I did appreciate how Batman spent most of the film acting like an investigator, but I’m sure plenty of people wanted him more center-stage, and out-in-front. The whole superpowers thing, and “feeling useful,” was a bit weird, but I guess that can be chalked up to teenage angst and stuff. I know the framing is “Batman’s a human among gods on Earth, but on Remnant he’s just as strong and super-powered as everyone else.” And I can see how that might work, but Batman’s greatest contribution to the JL has never been his fighting prowess, and it’s not like he hasn’t gained superpowers in some way before.

Jessica & Jaune the standouts for me; especially for a character whom I had zero prior knowledge of, given she’s not one of the primary characters people think of when they hear “Green Lantern.” But it was a good choice for what they wanted to do with the character. Hal, Kyle, Simon or Guy are all too self-assured & macho, for how the story wanted to employ the Power Ring, and would be more likely to butt heads and argue. Which there was already more than enough from the rest of the cast. Also to help even out the girl:guy ratio.

And Jaune is given a good showing, emphasizing his abilities as a support and bringing out the best in those around him. He took more of a emotional/intelligence-based role, helping figure out the truth and piecing things together before everyone else.

Vixen was also good, wish we’d gotten a bit more of her, rather than the Cyborg-Nora-Ren triangle thing.

Also Blake swinging Nora around in the final fight was amazing.

Ranking Remnant Re-desgns

I have some time to kill and I wanna ramble about the JLxRWBY movie Justice League Designs and more to rank them on how well I think they mesh with Remnant. 

Just to be clear I LIKE all the designs, I just think some mesh more neatly than others. 

It was a toss up between Wonder Woman and Superman for the least meshed. I think both designs are fun, Clark’s makes me think of a more down home boy Kon-El. But the evocations of his usual comics attire with the crest and more normal vibes make him feel a bit less cleanly meshed. 

It was so hard finding a pic that showed off WW’s design. But I digress. Is this design awesome? Extremely! Do I fell it meshes with Remnant, eeeh less so, the color combo and design elements hearken so much to usual attire that as cool as the design is, she feels a bit out of place. 

Next tier!

Bruce & Cyborg share a tier, I think Bruce’s overall outfit fits Remnant fairly well, though be it not something worn by MCs, but the strong crest calling to his usual crest is a bit awkward by Remnant standards. I love the scarf too but it has the same problem, its there cos Batman has a cape over cos this this is a Remnant design. 

I’m sorry you’re so low on the list Cyborg, I love your hair and vibes and overall design, but the shirt needs to either be gone or have something design or color wise to make it pop more. Leggings though, they are perfect. Still with his busier cybernetic extensions I’d say he still fits very neatly.

Final tier! 

I love this design, the colors, the scar, the overall vibe and his weapon all feel extremely workable. He feels a touch... Not over designed, but kind of like he’s paying homage to a race car driver, so it can fit really neatly and looks good regardless, also nice subtle work with the crest, even with it being interlaid with the whole design. 

I love you baby girl you’re doing so well, GNC as fuck! The Crest is a touch over, but the clothing and hair design offset that completely, along with the strong presence of primary colors and anime buckles. 

Ten out of ten, no questions asked, you were born on Remnant ‘ma’am! Seriously though, cool weapon, colors that compliment perfectly and flow with such a current style, the subtle anime touches and interweaving of fangs? yeah this works without questions or caveat. 

Conclusion: 

As noted I really like all the designs, but of them, I think the last three are the one’s that mesh so well with Remnant I wouldn’t even arch an eyebrow if someone told me they were made for RWBY first and everything else second.

Cyrborg and Bruce don’t quite get that close, the former feeling like he’s missing something and the latter like he’d need to appear in a specific context for me to lose all doubts. 

Meanwhile Superman & Wonder Woman definitely lean on their inspiration sources the most. 

They all look amazing though.
