12/2/21.
I know I'm geeking out when I jump out of my seat due to a new release from Fortunato Durutti Marinetti (Toronto, Canada). The self-released cassette from 2020 was a true gem and if we made a "best of" list this certainly would've been there.
"Memory's Fool" is a shared release between two stalwart labels - Soft Abuse and Bobo Integral. I'm hoping this gives Daniel Colussi the wider audience he deserves. He is still working with Jay Arner and many others.
His sound still recalls Lou Reed, The Silent League, Leonard Cohen and Dan Bejar.

lu’s monthly playlists!
since it’s the first of may i thought it would be appropriate to introduce my monthly playlists. i’ve been keeping on this trend for a whole year now and they truly do not get enough recognition... here’s are my favourites for may!
Teenage Talk - St. Vincent
- first of all, i heard this song the day that it came out and i put it away for a while. i heard the song years later on an episode of Lena Dunham’s show, Girls. kick ass show BTW 10/10. after that, i couldn’t stop listening to it. the beginning synth carried through the song gives it a little R&B vibe which is hard to get enough of. i adore St. Vincent’s sound and emotion, showing why i just can’t get enough. one of my favourite songs ever.
The Fall - Rhye
- Again, another oldie but a goodie. i put this one away for years as well. just recently found it from listening to one of Thom Yourke’s playlists on Sonos Radio. this song has the perfect mix of soft indie and jazz with the melancholy lyrics and groovy piano & bass. this whole album resonates with the listener but this song deemed the center piece of Rhye’s ‘Woman’.
Earth To Jay - Jay Arner
- A very underrated song and super indie artist! with only 1000 monthly listeners on Spotify, this song is the epitome of far-out. the only place i’ve heard of this song was through Clairo’s interview with Narduwar. This song feels to me like the lovechild of Tame Impala and any other deep outer space talking indie band. brilliant tune for the indie kids making video montages of sunsets and skateboarders.
I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes) - Chet Baker
- no, not a classified indie jam. yes, an inspiration to very many indie artists and that to me is a classified indie jam. this song fits perfectly into our month because mr. Chet Baker perfectly displays his broken heart during the season of spring. this song is perfect for a broken heart, a tired soul, a classy old man or any struggling indie artist looking for inspiration.

Episode #252
Hello Hello Hello!
I really like punk rock with horns. Not ska punk (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE ska punk), but punk rock with horns. In the first block I played those new punk rock with horns songs by Элизиум, Distemper (both Moscow, Russia), Brutto (Minsk, Belarus) and Ленинград (Saint Petersburg, Russia).
Corner Boys presented their new 7′’ and played a show with Jiffy Marker and it was GREAT!
And the final block of this episode includes great local bands which played Mint Records Ridiculously Early Xmas Party! Therefore I played superhits by Needles//Pins, Woolworm, Dumb, Supermoon and Jay Arner.

Energy Slime, 'New Dimensional' (Mint Records)
Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 7:28pm
Don't get around to too many friends' releases on this thing it seems. It's taken forever to finally hear this thing, and it overall is a lot less goofy than I had been anticipating. Obviously doesn't carry the heft of a Jay Arner solo album, but it definitely a worthy addition his body of work, moreso than its identity would suggest.

This Old Dog - Mac DeMarco
(2017, self-released)
This Old Dog is the third full length album released by a Canadian-based singer songwriter, Mac DeMarco in 2017 through Captured Tracks. Mac moved from his isolated home at Queens to Los Angeles to create the album. The album was under the name, “Mac DeMarco’s Label” at Spotify. That means Mac produced and record the songs by himself and with no support of a label. The album opens with a lo-fi jangle pop track, “My Old Dog” and closes with a dream-lo-fi pop ballad that you would listen at your car radio, “Watching Him Fade Away”. People compares Mac DeMarco with Stephen Malkmus. Stephen Malkmus was more raw and hard-rock indie while Mac DeMarco was more sweet-dreamy indie than him. “For The First Time” is a song where you fall in love with a girl. “Still Beating” was a very chill song, complete with catchy psychedelic guitar driven hooks, the song become an anthem for a so-called “bedroom pop” generation. “Dreams from Yesterday” is like a mix of C86 indie pop like Talulah Gosh for example mixed with lo-fi drum machine. “One More Love Song” is a dream-chill pop song which is almost the same as Men I Trust’s “Show Me How”. Mac DeMarco was one of the pioneers of the “bedroom-pop” genre alongside No Vacation, Fleet Foxes, Daniel Johnston, Alex G and Jay Arner. Mac DeMarco also inspired young indie artists, Clairo and King Krule.

5/13/20.
Fortunato Durutti Marinetti (Toronto, Ontario) is the vision of Daniel Colussi.  He has the help of many talented musicians in bringing that vision to fruition.  “Desire” appears to be his first physical release and is produced by the talented Jay Arner (Mint Records).
This album hit me right away.  It has a lulling pace and a minimalist approach (mostly) to instruments.  The voice is reminiscent of Lou Reed crossed with Hamish Kilgour.  The music itself reminds me of how I feel when listening to the lush sounds of The Silent League.  And finally, the beauty of some songs takes me back to bands like Speed The Plough.
This is self-released and Fortunato Durutti Marinetti has said that a cassette purchase comes with a “personalized message scrawled by me.”

I recently found 50 Jay Arner Bad Friend / Black Horse 7"s in a box without covers. Instead of getting new covers printed I am going to make collage covers for all of them and sell them on bandcamp for $7. This is the first album I ever played on and I still love both songs. Hello tumblr how are you doing? It’s 2020 and I’m making art.  https://jayarner.bandcamp.com/album/bad-friend
