On August 7, 1981, the animated film "Heavy Metal" was released. In contrast to many other countries, it was part of a small list of animated movies made for adults in America. The anthology movie, only loosely tied together, was based on the mature illustrated magazine "Heavy Metal", which was the English translated version of the French "Metal Hurlant", pieces from "National Lampoon", and fiction. Due to issues with releases for the music, it took 15 years for the movie to be released on home video. The movie segments were "Soft Landing", "Grimaldi", "Harry Canyon", "Den", "Captain Sterrn", "Neverwhere Land" "B-17", "So Beautiful & So Dangerous", "Taarna", and the "Epilogue". ("Heavy Metal", Animated film, Event)

Writers Guild West Official: Era of Hollywood Mergers Hastened the Strike
August 10, 2023
Laura Blum-Smith, the Writers Guild of America West’s director of research and public policy, considers the strike a result of a tsunami of Hollywood mergers that has handed studios and streamers the power to its exploit workers.
“Harmful mergers and attempts to monopolize markets are a recurring theme in the history of media and entertainment, and they are a key part of what led 11,500 writers to go on strike more than 100 days ago against their employers,” Blum-Smith said on Thursday at an event with the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice over new merger guidelines unveiled in July.
She pointed to Disney, Amazon and Netflix as companies that “gained power through anticompetitive consolidation and vertical integration,” allowing them to impose “more and more precarious working conditions, increasingly short term employment and lower pay for writers and other workers across the industry.” But she sees revisions to the merger guidelines that address labor concerns a key part of the solution to prevent further mergers in the entertainment industry moving forward.
“The FTC and DOJ’s new draft merger guidelines are part of a deeply necessary effort to revive antitrust enforcement,” she added. “Compared with earlier guidelines, the new ones are much more skeptical of the idea that mergers are the natural way for companies to grow. And they focus more on the various ways mergers hurt competition, including how mergers impact workers.”
In July, the FTC and DOJ jointly released a new road map for regulatory review of mergers. They require companies to consider the impact of proposed transactions on labor, signaling that the agencies intend to review whether mergers could negatively impact wages and working conditions. FTC commissioner Alvaro Bedoya, who was joined by agency chair Lina Khan, said in a statement about the guidelines that “a merger that may substantially lessen competition for workers will not be immunized by a prediction that predicted savings from a merger will be passed on to consumers.” Historically, transactions have been considered mostly through the lens of benefits to consumers.
The guidelines lack the force of law but influence the way in which judges consider lawsuits to block proposed transactions. They also tell the public how competition enforcers will assess the potential for a merger’s harm to competition.
Antitrust enforcers have steadily been taking notice of negative impacts to labor as a result of industry consolidation. “We’ve heard concerns that a handful of companies may now again be controlling the bulk of the entertainment supply chain from content creation to distribution,” Khan said last year during a listening forum over revisions to the guidelines, in a nod to anticompetitive conduct by studios that led to the Paramount Decrees. “We’ve heard concerns that this type of consolidation and integration can enable firms to exert market power over creators and workers alike.”
Adam Conover, writer and WGA board member, said in that April 2022 forum that his show Adam Ruins Everything was killed by AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner in 2018 when TruTV’s parent company forced the network to cut costs. He stressed that a handful of companies “now control the production and distribution of almost all entertainment content available to the American public,” allowing them to “more easily hold down our wages and set onerous terms for our employment.” It’s not just writers that are impacted by an overly consolidated Hollywood either, he explained. After Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, he said that the studios pushed the industry into ending backend participation and trapping actors in exclusive contracts preventing them from pursuing other work.
Blum-Smith said that aggressive competition enforcement is necessary as “Wall Street continues to push for more consolidation among our employers despite the industry’s history of mergers that failed to deliver any of the consumer benefits they’ve claimed that left writers and audiences worse off with less diversity of content and fewer choices.”
“More mergers will leave writers with even fewer places to sell their work and tell their stories and the remaining companies will have even more power to lower pay and worsen working conditions,” she warned. “Strong enforcement against mergers is essential to protect workers in media and workers across the country and these guidelines are an important step in the right direction.”

MY GUIDE TO THE INCARNATIONS OF MALICE
Tumblr media
DEMON KING DEMISE
Greater-Scope Villain of the entire franchise who originated the curse known as Malice that ensured great evil would always be plaguing Hyrule and going after the reincarnations and descendants of the Hero and the Goddess, the greatest of such evils being those who’d be born and reborn as vessels for the demon god’s undying hatred.
Appeared only in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Voiced in my head by Fred Tatasciore.
Tumblr media
GANONDORF PROTO (DEMON KING GANON)
First incarnation of Demise’s Malice and the first Gerudo king to be born with the name of Ganondorf. A warlord who sought to conquer Hyrule during the founding days of the kingdom. Coveted the power of the Zonai Secret Stones, swore false fealty to King Rauru only to murder his wife and steal her Secret Stone, embraced the Malice and transform himself into a Demon King who led dark legions in an effort to conquer Hyrule until he was mummified and sealed by Rauru.
As it was his malice that leaked through the seal, reached Warrior King Ganon and created Calamity Ganon, he ironically has ended up as the first Ganon AND the last Ganon simultaneously; the Alpha and the Omega. Appears in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom
Voiced in the English dub by Matthew Mercer.
Tumblr media
GANONDORF PRIME, THE GREAT KING OF EVIL
First reincarnation of the Malice, the OG Ganon who appeared in the most titles due to his timeline splintering into three divergeant paths.
Always starts off where we meet him in Ocarina of Time, but if exposed for his treachery while Link and Zelda are still children, his path is set towards Twilight Princess. If as the great King of Evil in the Bad Future, he kills Link and claims the whole Triforce, his path is set towards A Link To The Past, which itself is later followed by the Oracle games and A Link Between Worlds. But if Link is triumphant and Ganondorf is sealed into the Sacred Realm, his path is set towards The Wind Waker. He’s also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Voiced in my head by Tom Wyner (A Link To The Past, Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Oracle of Ages/Seasons), Steve Blum (Twilight Princess), Len Carlson (Agahnim in A Link To The Past), and Sam Ramey (Ocarina of Time 3D).
Tumblr media
GANON, PRINCE OF DARKNESS Second known Ganon reincarnation, born in a timeline many years after the original Ganondorf was killed for good in Twilight Princess. He only appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure.
Voiced in my head by Steve Blum.
Tumblr media
WARRIOR KING GANON/CALAMITY GANON
Third known Ganon reincarnation, born into realities that aren’t considered official canon to Nintendo’s timeline, yet his physical form seems to have been what Demon King Ganon’s malice latched onto in order to make Calamity Ganon out of, as seen in Age of Calamity.
Appears in Hyrule Warrirors, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and (kinda, sorta) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Voiced in my head by Jamieson Price.
Tumblr media
YUGA (YUGANON)
Lorule counterpart to Ganondorf who serves as the Big Bad of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. A far more narcissistic and self-obsessed character than Ganondorf ever was, and is effete and mincing whereas Ganondorf is masculine and no-nonsense, keeping with the idea that Lorule is like a distorted mirror of Hyrule. Most impressively, he hijacks Ganon rather than the other way around!
Voiced in my head by Michael McKean.
Tumblr media
DEMON KING MALADUS
Another incarnation of Demise’s Malice who appears as the Big Boss of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. He is never fully explained.
Tumblr media
GANONS WHO DON’T COUNT
Incarnations of the character appearing in The Legend of Zelda (1986 NES game), fan-made games, the CDI games, the 80s cartoon show, Cadence of Hyrule, and Animal Crossing.
Maybe this is blasphemy, but I personally do not think of the original NES game and its immediate oddball sequel, The Adventure of Link, as canonical to the rest of the series despite Nintendo’s insistence of shoving them neatly into a timeline. They stand out way too much as having no story in them aside from what’s All There In The Manual, and I’m supposed to believe that OG Ganon, in this timeline, was resurrected thrice over (Oracle games, A Link Between Worlds, and the original game) and THIS is how he gets done in once and for all? Nope, not having it. To me, the true final battle with Ganon in that timeline was the linked finale of the Oracle games, with Yuga’s later hijacking of his spirit being his final appearance and involvement.
As for the others - the fan-made games and CDI games are obviously non-canonical and their Ganons barely a thing like him, the cartoon version is a Skeletor-esque idiot who’s just a boar man for no real reason, Cadence of Hyrule’s take is okay but not part of the timeline and a major Adaptational Wimp, and Animal Crossing? C’mon, that character is just a silly blue pig pretending to be his idol.
Last thing to note - with the canonical Ganons, I love that they go the whole sliding scale of evil villainy, in appropriate chronological order. Demon King Ganon, like Demise, is a pure evil Complete Monster. King of Evil Ganon is a Classic Villain whose resume of dark deeds is particularly heinous across all his appearances. Prince of Darkness Ganon is a Classic Villain who is bog standard and generically evil rather than truly heinous. Warrior King Ganon is a tactically gifted and charismatic Magnificent Bastard with even some Noble Demon qualities to him, and then what Calamity Ganon devolves into is pure Generic Doomsday Villain (just like original NES Ganon always was). Truly one of the greatest villains in all of video gaming indeed.

3, 4, 20, 29 for the music ask!
OUGH
music asks
3. A song that reminds you of summertime
Basically any WTM song but I'll say Quesadilla by Walk the Moon is the first that comes to mind!
4. A song that reminds you of someone you would rather forget about
I don't actually want to forget anyone bc I learned a lot of really valuable lessons in all of my dysfunctional relationships, buuuut New Year's Eve by Mal Blum makes me think of someone I'm definitely better off without.
20. A song that has many meanings to you
oooooh ok ok ok this one is fun bc there are two ways to interpret this question: 1) a song that I associate with multiple things/events/characters/etc orrrr 2) a song whose lyrics can be interpreted as being about multiple things. I'm going to go with, of course, SECRET THIRD OPTION: A song that has a widely accepted and understood meaning, but I think is more poignant if interpreted differently.
Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's--- very mediocre romantic love song, imo. However, if listening while imagining the narrator is singing about having lost custody of their child??? Heart wrenching. This one is probably a cliche on tumblr at this point but thinking abt it like this actually made me like the song lmao. I think there are a lot of songs that, while maybe originally having romance at the center, are way more powerful when viewed with the perspective of other types of relationships. (or originally centering het romance and being recontextualized through a queer lens)
29. A song that you remember from your childhood
I'm Yours by Jason Maraz is the first song I remember being like, obsessed with lmao.
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK <333333

Métal Hurlant (1981)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Saa, hajimeyou! Perjalanan Setsuna-Kana Raizael dari masa ke masa 🤸‍♂️ (warning banyak gambar bikin sakit mata, gue serius soalnya riil jelek banget ya Allah)
Jdi gue pertama kali bikin SetsuKana dari kelas 7. Iyh jdi sbenernya udah lama banget, malah mereka berdua hitungannya OC pertama gue.
Tumblr media
Jadi desain awalnya gini.
Gue lupa2 inget konsep awalnya gimana but iirc mereka bukan sodara kembar. Mirip, tpi bukan. Rada influenced by vocaloid aka karena dulu gue demen banget sama vocaloid jadilah mereka berdua. Kalo gue ga salah yg rambut hijau itu Setsuna (kudunya toska tapi pensil warna gue terbatas jadilah gitu, tpi di pikiran gue warna rambut dia toska—probably ngikutin Hatsune Miku). Trus yg rambut biru gelap itu Kana (yg ini agaknya ngikutin Kaito, gatau knapa). Sekali lagi gainget knapa tapi mereka konsepnya kayak ... cermin? Mirip2 Rin-Len yg katanya emang cerminan masing2 gitu2 lah.
Di sini mereka berdua masih nameless (or probably I got them names in my head tapi memori gue jelek jadi gue gainget nama mereka di sini siapa)
Tumblr media
Lalu pas kelas 8 gue mulai mngenal ibis paint x. Masih nameless, then warna rambutnya "Kana" waktu itu ganti. Kalo yg ini gue inget gue gambar buat merayakan ultah gue (kayaknya mereka punya tanggal lahir yg sama kayak gue asalnya dari sini alias Lya 14 taun why tf you give them the same bday date as us).
Warnanya nusuk banget demi ya Allah gimana bisa gue gambar kayak gini /merenung/.
But dari sini gue udah nentuin basic personality mereka. Dinamika sun (Setsuna) & moon (Kana) gitu2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to pmbicaraan abt them being in bsdoc fandom, mereka berdua ceritanya anak Port Mafia gitu (dandanannya hitam2 skarang gue bertanya2 knapa Lya 14-15 taun ga kepikiran buat ngasih baju yg lebih berwarna).
Both of them have abilities, abilitynya ga saling berkaitan tapi mereka bisa bikin itu jadi berkaitan (?) Idk something like that. Seinget gue Vira abilitynya mirip punya Acuy trus Avi abilitynya mirip punya Odsk (gue lupa detailnya gimana, nama abilitynya apalagi).
(Tmi banget tpi dulu gue ngepair Vira (Setsuna) sama G0gol. Iyh yume pertama gue (dulu gatau sebutannya yume), yg mana sbenernya hubungan mereka masih sama ga jelasnya kalo dibandingkan sama yg skarang (udh karam)).
(Tmi juga Akira-Osya-Saya lahir dari fandom ini. Akira punya hubungan darah sama si kembar, tpi mereka ga pernah ketemu. Osya-Saya malah gapunya hubungan samsek sama mereka berdua, tpi seinget gue Saya kenal sama Akira).
Lalu gue lupa tepatnya kapan, either akhir 2019 ato 2020 gitu (pokoknya gue udah SMA), gue mutusin keluar dari fandom bsdoc for some reasons. Tentunya anak2 ini gue tarik, lalu gue bikinin universe sendiri. Tiga oc yg gue sebutin sebelumnya gue bawa juga, dan entah apa yg merasuki Lya 15/16 tahun, dia (gue) mutusin bikin mereka jadi sodara (dipikir2 lagi masih aga kocak dan amat sangat maksa tapi syukurlah lorenya bisa gue sempurnain sekitar taun kemaren biar mulus).
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tbh gue merasa kurang cocok sama seragam itu jadi akhirnya gue ganti (yang mana akhirnya gue jadiin permanen, oc lain yg sekolah di sekolah mereka seragamnya juga kayak gini).
Vira (Setsuna) tuh konsepnya delinquent, tipe2 anak bandel yg dasi sama blazer aja ga dipasang bener2. Sementara Avi (Kana) konsepnya diligent, tipe2 anak rajin di kelas. Vira pake plester di wajahnya karena luka (hobi brgelud, mmang ni anak gaada anggun2nya samsek jadi cewe), sementara Avi pake buat nemenin Vira aja, biar matching gitu www. Mereka akur (kadang berantem tpi ga lama akur lagi), ke mana2 bareng terus meski jadi bikin orang bingung karena wajah mereka mirip.
Tumblr media
(Tmi (lagi), lore bnal!
Tumblr media
Lalu gue memutuskan bikin Kanachang pake kacamata! Wkwk yg ini juga impulsif, tapi lucu. Kek sejak kelas 2 SMA Kana nyadar penglihatan dia jadi aga kabur pas ngeliatin papan tulis, jadilah dia periksa (trnyata emang minus, jadi dia mulai pake kacamata).
Yeah 3 taun pake kacamata lalu mninggoy /digebuk massa/
Karena mereka yg paling lama juga jadinya gue kek ... paling sayang sama mereka? Especially Setsuna soalnya hitungannya dia ocsona gue, but I love them equally!!! Gue sayang banget pls gue bakal melakukan apa aja untuk melindungi mereka berdua ;;;;;;;

Medical Research in Strasbourg after annexation to the Third Reich
Weather permitting, I often take the tram north to downtown Strasbourg and then walk to a beautiful park in the “La Petite France” quartier. To return home, I usually walk towards the Strasbourg Hospital area where I can board the southbound tram. One day in October 2022, I decided to walk through this area, as the winding old streets are confusing to me. On this day, I came upon a disturbing sight:
Tumblr media
This building is certainly, in itself, frightening enough because it seems to be deliberately Isolated from attention or even routine maintenance. There is a well-maintained building behind it, and buildings were demolished in the foreground. So, why was this very austere building not considered for either maintenance or demolition like those surrounding it?
When I boarded the nearby tram, I checked both Apple Maps (3D) and Google Maps to see if this building is designated as historic or important. Nothing is mentioned, not even the name of the building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I asked “Google Lens” to look at my photo and tell me about it. It did a great job, and said that this building is called the “Pavillon Blum”.
Tumblr media
When I asked Google to search for “Pavillon Blum” it suggested the official page for  “Hôpital Civil Strasbourg”. When I searched this page, it said that “Pavillon Blum” was the “ancien laboratoire et amphithéâtre de la clinique médicale B”.
Tumblr media
So, I asked Google to now check “ancien laboratoire et amphithéâtre de la clinique médicale B”. The results were very disturbing.

During World War II, Strasbourg, and the Alsace region, were not just occupied by the Third Reich, they annexed it: I.E. They expanded the borders of Germany into French Alsace. This means that this hospital and its associated research facilities in Strasbourg were now resources for use by the Third Reich and its military.  They then used it for horrific medical experiments on live humans: Jews mostly, but also Communists, Russian soldiers and others that they thought as not worth consideration.
Tumblr media
Many of the experiments, with live human beings, were conducted at these buildings. You can read the horrific details in the attached links, but, to summarize: these were NOT “Mad Scientists”, these were high professionals: doctors, scientists, researchers, academics who used unwilling subjects to test ways to improve the war effort. For example: they wanted to improve the likelihood of survival for a sailor who abandoned ship in icy Russian waters. During this experiment, almost all of the victims slowly froze to death. They were murdered.  Since this time, researchers in western countries have deliberately also used these illegal, immoral and generally unreliable test results to help them develop related commercial products.

The Hôpital Civil Strasbourg is  a “Centre Hospitalier Universitaire” or university hospital.  It is only since last spring (2022) that the University of Strasbourg has acknowledged this terrible, dark, horrific chapter in its history. You can read their acknowledgment from the links below.
