thinkin abt an au where violetshine actually kills raven and sleekwhisker during the battle against them in river of fire.....like as theyre fighting something in her just snaps and she lets all of her rage out without realizing

she kills raven first, since they were already fighting during that scene. violet is just overcome with emotion - grief from needletails death, reminders of what darktail and his rogues did, outrage at the whole situation - that she doesnt even realize raven is already weakened and just keeps attacking her until she stops moving.

but its not ravens death that gets her to turn away from her - its the rogues sudden retreat. she turns and watches them run away, and then she sees sleekwhisker. sleekwhisker running - no, limping away, after all that shes done. memories flash through violetshines mind. sleekwhisker was darktails most loyal follower, and violetshines bully since kithood. she helped kill needletail. she insulted violets heritage and kin. and now she thinks she can just run away? just like that? like a coward??

violet lunges without thinking. she catches the already-injured sleekwhisker off guard and starts tearing into her viciously, all her fury coming out in rapid slashes of her already-bloodstained claws. she thinks of needletail, struggling underwater; thinks of dawnpelt, lured off into the night and drowned without any cat knowing; thinks of pinenose, killed in the thick of battle with riverclan. darktail is dead, but sleekwhisker is here, she's here and it's all her fault, her fault, she'll pay for this, for taking everything from her-

when violetshine feels a soft tap on her side she whips around, claws still bared, and swipes at macgyver. thankfully, he dodges out of the way just in time, and violetshine finally snaps out of her blind rage and realizes what she almost did - what shes already done - and she freezes in shock. shes not even listening as macgyver (shakily, uncertainly) tells her that its ok, the rogues are gone, but rowanclaw is in trouble, he might not make it. violetshine remembers now, remembers everything she just did more clearly than ever, and she feels like throwing up. she flinches as her eyes drift over to raven's body, then sleekwhisker's - she was running away, she thinks. i killed her while she was running away.

when they return home, every cat is too focused on rowanclaws death to celebrate the rogues being driven out; but violetshine cant look any of her clanmates in the eye, especially not when her father tells her how proud he is of her for being so courageous, especially not when tree looks at her and says nothing because he can tell somethings wrong and she can't tell him, she can't look at him, she can't look at anyone. she's a monster, she's a monster and every cat is praising her like she's a hero.

she's not tired the morning after rowanclaw's vigil. she can't sleep at all. closing her eyes only brings memories of sleekwhiskers body, bloodied and beaten on the ground like the corpses darktail left to rot in riverclans camp.

What's your opinion on Pinenose? She's one of my favorite background characters. Look at all this interesting canon lore about her: She pushed the stone in the ice hockey game that caused Flametail to die. She had a kit who died in the great battle. She had kits again, later, but their father, Spikefur, couldn't have been the same cat who fathered the kit who died in the great battle, because he would have been too young then. Given all the interesting thing that have happened in Shadowclan, Pinenose could have an awesome story! She died during the Darktail arc, but there's so much that happened before then. Her mentor was Ratscar (interesting!) She was the foster mother of Violetshine, as well! AND Puddleshine (the medicine cat) is her son, and he healed her of the yellowcough plague. Her other children all have interesting interactions with the Kin and Darktail as well! Lioneye and Birchbark 'disappeared' because Darktail probably killed them, and Slatefur joined the kin and then escaped with Berryheart and others before returning and becoming a mentor and having kits! I think Pinenose has the potential for SUCH an interesting character, since she has direct ties to the medicine cats, due to (accidentally) causing Flametail's death and her son being chosen to be a medicine cat at such a young age. I want to know her thoughts! Pinenose should get a book about her. I would be so happy. What do you think?

I have a growing fondness for her with my AVoS reworks, because of her foster relationship to Violetshine. I keep trying to nail down what exactly her relationship with Violet is going to be.

Because, Owlclaw is now a child of Mudclaw, the only one of a litter of 3 that Whitewater kept after seeing the sire get squashed by a tree. The older two, Harespring and Kestrelflight, were given to Torear because she felt like there was something... cursed about this litter.

So the nasty little ShadowClan bully from Po3 is getting some more depth; a strained relationship with his mother, a feeling like there's something different about him, and a deep wrongness about his life. He bonds fast with Violetpaw.

So I'm trying to work out what that means between him and Pinenose. If he's just a mentor to Violetshine, or if he replaces Pine as Violet's foster, or if there's something deeper between him and Pinenose.

It will depend on how the tree pans out, too. Owl and his siblings are the oldest of the Lakeborn cats, and my hard cutoff for age gaps in relationships is 4 years. Bonefall Po3 and the start of Bonefall OotS is at LEAST 2 years apart... but really, 3 years would be more appropriate for characters like Sedgewhisker and Marshwing to start being seen as young-but-respected warriors.

Which is all to say that I really need to work on the Clan Dynamics of ShadowClan, really.

I’ve made Starlingwing, Ferretclaw, and Pinenose siblings. They’re all apprentices around the same time so I thought it was fitting.

Pinenose has some tortie spots for genetics.

I’ve renamed Spikefur to Spikewhisker and his littermate is Kinkfur.

Redwillow and Scorchfur are apprentices around the same time so they are siblings now.

I’ve slapped Snowbird onto Poppytail’s (Tallpoppy’s) litter in TNP. Check out an extended family tree for them here with older branches.

I went ahead and made Weaselkit the full sibling of Lion, Birch, Puddle, and Slate.

Puddleshine is a calico now.

And everything else should be canon!

And here we go for my last pick of the original batch!

Now AVoS is admittedly one arc I do not have much fondness for or recollection of. BUT! I did say I read the first half of it and this is one of the precious few female-character centric prompts. Not to mention one of my oldest. Plus the fact Twig and Violet are so young gives me a lot of leeway characterization-wise. So, sure, let's give it a spin!

Violet was my choice PoV here. Let's see where this leads us.

That defining day was but a blurr in Violetshine’s memory. The mass of unfamiliar cats with their mingling scents surrounding her and her sister. The shouts as the leaders argued while projecting their thunderous voices across the whole of the island. The utter refusal to the move, her pinlike claws trying desperately to keep ahold of the ground as she was picked up by the scruff. The hoarseness of her tiny throat as she mewled in protest. The images had faded, it was not like they had ever been that clear to begin really, but the sensations and the emotions, it was all etched deep into her mind.

But much as the event in itself was ever fuzzy, not so much from age, she could remember much more vividly all that had come after as she was carried from the island through the moors and through the forest where her home had been the last couple of days into that damp, musty, overcast territory, into that place where the full moon could barely glimmer. Looking back, Violetshine wondered if such a first impression would have always made the place not feel at all like home, if had the Clan that brought her up been kinder she would have still ended up wanting to leave.

Then again the hostility had also been something that she had felt from her very first impression...

A growl rose in Pebbleshine’s throat just as Rowanclaw tried to deposit Violetkit alongside her own litter. “What are you doing!” she demanded, not really even a hint of a question in her voice. “How do you come back with a kitten of all things?!”

Her soon-to-be littermates were agitated at that, stuck between curiosity at the new bundle being brought to their nest and an immediate rejection at the foreign smell that clung to her. In emulation of their mother they also took on a defensive attitude, recoiling but sticking out their pelts while pawing at her. Their diminutive claws were out, not a body part they could really control yet but still very much out.

They were older than her. Not by much but enough to make their difference in size noticeable and the outsider kitten stick out all the more like a twisted claw.

Of the words exchanged between Rowanstar and the black-furred queen Violetkit had only caught glimpses, all the while recoiling from the Clanborn kits trying to defend their territory. “ThunderClan”, “prophecy”, “fair”, and “our right”. But there was also “Clanborn”, “crowded”, “distract”, and “their right”.

The only mind the affair between the kittens was being paid was by the ocassional interruption by their attempt to grasp at Violetkit by a swipe of their mother’s tail.

“Fine,” Rowanstar finally agreed. “She’ll sleep with me until your kittens are properly accustomed to her. But I’m going to expect that you put of your part to make this happen. I won’t be able to keep her with me forever.”

“And I will,” Pinenose replied. “Oh you believe me I will.” She turned towards her kittens once again and swept them off just as they were beginning to get rauccous once again. “But not now. Least you could’ve done was make sure I was not trying to rest before springing a task upon me.”

With that, Violetkit was brought alongside Rowanstar’s mate to rest in the leader’s den. She nestled on the gap just under Tawnypelt’s chin.

It wasn’t a particularly restful night from there. Not even from the attempt at licks of comfort.

Any ideas for AVOS yet? I don't remember much of it, I just remembered feeling like both Violetshine and Twigbranch were wasted potential

AVoS is definitely one of the lesser 'solidified' arcs for the rewrite in my head. Way more fragments than commitments.

I'm actually cleaning up my masterpost rn so I have these links on hand-- I'll summarize them though so you don't HAVE to read All This, but if you want to go on a meander through my thoughts, here they are

On Twigbranch and Violetshine

How will I handle the breakup of ShadowClan? (^^^ If you're going to read any, read this one because it's the most sensitive part of AVoS, and THE big thing I want to fix. I go into why I think it's so important here so it's really really worth the context)

The inconsistent morality of the apprentices, radicalization, how I want to fix it; on Berryheart and Sleekwhisker

Breezepelt’s plan to drown Darktail; subverting the redemption-by-death trope

In Summary;

-The POV is getting changed. Alderheart is not a main POV-- AVoS is mostly told through Needletail, Violetshine, and Breezepelt. (considered heathertail but leaning against it now)

-This is an arc about WindClan and ShadowClan; Alderheart and Sparkpelt are big enough to hold side content on their own, such as a novella or SE

-Breezepelt is getting a WHOLE redemption arc in AVoS.

-Added Harespring and Breezepelt as a one-sided rivalry

-Breezepelt's kittens are either not being born yet, or shuffled. Heathertail may possibly invoke the Queen's Rights and have them with an unknown father.

-The Kin is the central conflict of the entire arc; I specifically made BloodClan neutral and reworked other major cultures in the entire series knowing that I would have to keep The Kin utterly malicious. One of the few completely irredeemable foreign groups in the whole series.

-So, obviously, I'm being very careful about them. This is an area where I need to make it clear that Darktail's destruction IS bad actors, not a systemic issue. This is extremely important to later arcs, because there IS canonical xenophobic backlash to The Kin and it is unavoidable.

-So... you can see how I'm walking a fine line there. So I'm being extremely careful, conscious, and open-minded on how I approach it.

-The Kin exploits the good intentions of the ShadowClan apprentices, and lures in dejected codebreakers and ex-Dark Forest trainees into its ranks.

-SkyClan is returning to the Lake to help in the final confrontation.

-The Law of the Lake, the one cited to always preserve the other Clans, is being added at the end of this arc in respect to SkyClan, and possibly in memorial of ShadowClan, depending on when Tigerheart's Shadow's events fall in.

-Owlclaw is now the brother of Harespring and Kestrelflight! This is an added subplot I decided on with a couple of the other Regular Contributers (i want a name for you all, hmu with suggestions. The Skeleton Crew?) and I'm really fond of it, so Owlclaw is going to have something to bond with Violetshine over.

-Considering making Owlclaw either Violetshine's surrogate father or mentor. Pinenose is a fine surrogate and Violetshine will probably stay close with Puddleshine and Slatefur as childhood friends-- but there's potential with Owlclaw now.

Sorry for not posting in a while - my phone died a few weeks ago from water damage, and I lost all of my files.  Luckily, I have a habit of sharing my drawings on my various Discord servers before posting them here, so I was able to save all but one of my recent drawings that way, but they got a little pixelated when they were posted to Discord, so if they look a bit off here, that's why.

Anyway, continuing on with the modern ShadowClan designs, I decided to go ahead and give Pinenose a more updated ref sheet before designing her kits with Spikefur, so here she is! ^^ If only she'd been a better mother to Violetshine, the poor girl deserved so much more love that ShadowClan gave her...

Pinenose has no physical description other than her pattern, so I came up with my own for her. I had her as a shorthair before, but this time I decided to give her a thicker sort of medium coat. She's a bit on the lither and scruffier side, though not overly so. She's lived through a fair bit, having lost a kit in the Great Battle, and living as one of the Kin for a time, so I made her decently scarred-up - I imagine she got most of those scars trying to defend, or avenge, her kit in the Great Battle.

For her pattern, Pinenose is just described as a black cat. I had her with golden eyes before, but I decided to give her dark green eyes here. I tried to keep her from looking too similar to Hollyleaf and Shadowstar, since they're all black cats with green eyes, and I think I succeeded, since she's less lithe than Hollyleaf, not as rounded in build as Shadowstar, and has darker and more bluish green eyes than either of them.

Overall, I'm very pleased with how she turned out.
