Mathias' heart has been bleeding since his father, the former King, decided to punish you for his mistakes. As the youngest child of a lesser bourgeois, you were raised in the castle, between the King’s cruelty, the Queen’s friendship, and Mathias’s kindness (or supposed kindness?).

Now, more than twenty Carnivals since your arrival, the King is dead and the Queen’s sickness worsens each day. As the azure taint spreads in the kingdom and the Opalean Wars come to an end, it’s Mathias’s time to sit on the throne.

Will the docile Prince become a kind King, a violent Monarch, or a ruthless Tyrant? Will you have any say in it? And how much will your relationship change?

(INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT)

Q1: So, tell us a little bit about the projects you’re working on!

With pleasure! Right now, I’m working on three main projects. My personal Visual Novel project, “Love the Guard, Be the King,” a second Visual Novel I’ve been secretly working on with a good friend for the past 10 months or so, and I also have an ongoing book series about hot, quirky supervillains—but I’ll focus only on the first two cause that’s what we’re here for, right? Hahaha.

LtGBtK is a really intimist experience, focused more on the MC’s and RO’s character arcs and how we can change depending on our experiences and how we feel about them. The entire plot happens in only four days, but it takes into account almost 30 years of history—basically Mathias’s (the only RO) entire life!

“Crystal Library” has mystery, romance, magic, 6 ROs, and a ton of memorable scenes already. I’m working on the graphics and the programming for this one, while Coco Nichole (@dreamybard), one of my favorite writers ever, is the brilliant mind behind the plot and all of CL’s characters! I can’t wait to share this one with you all. Romance is optional in both. :)

Q2: What excites you most about using interactive fiction? What are some of the biggest challenges?

What I LOVE and FEAR about all types of interactive fiction is how it invites players to, on a much deeper level, be part of the narrative. When reading books, we all work hard to translate beautiful sentences and scenes into images in your head. We interact with it, yes, but when playing IFs, we also explore the narrative in a different way; we have so much more agency over what happens! We sometimes have different paths to choose from, beautiful illustrations to unlock, or character traits that change depending on our choices… it’s amazing, and, IMO, it’s a very unique way to experience narratives.

But it’s also very complex, very demanding, and it can easily get out of hand if you give the players too many options/branches to follow, mainly when working with small teams or, in my case for LtGBtK, alone. *takes a deep breath* I just hope I’m doing a good job. .-.

Q3: What has been something in your project you’ve had to do a weird amount of research for?

Besides programming lol basically everything. For LtGBtK, I’m trying to create this weird fantasy with a modern-medieval society (?), so I’m constantly researching medieval customs, traditions, tools, and weirdly specific stuff like socks. Did people wear socks in the medieval era? What were their playing cards made of? When was ice cream invented? How did they shave? How did kids become knights? What were their perfumes made of? And soaps? What did they eat? How different was their wine? And what kind of materials or slang or fabrics can I use, and what can I change without completely breaking immersion?

And then I shove all that into a pot and adapt it to a world where Mathias can literally put the world on fire with a wave of his hands. ♥

Q4: Which of your characters is most like you? How?

I think I’m a mix of them all, but mainly Mandra and Rafa (one of my main characters in my supervillain books). They have wildly different personalities and stories, but those two have clear views of the kind of person they want to be, they’re not afraid of their soft sides, and they are ready to work hard to become good at what they love. Rafa has a specially strong connection to her brother, like my siblings and I, and Mand is often locked in an eternal state of wanting to be alone and wanting to be surrounded by family/loved ones, so I guess we meet there too!

Q5: Does your heritage influence your characters as you create them? (How? Why or why not?)

Yes! There are the very basic ways, like habits, names, food, family dynamics, settings (mainly in my books, which are all very Brazilian), and Holidays. And then there’s a more personal way that I’m not entirely sure I can explain because I lived in Brazil for 28 years, and I’m not sure I can put that into words. The classics of our literature are different, Art, architecture, and music developed differently, my country was violently colonized and still faces the results of that violence (including but not limited to structural racism, classism, misogyny etc), I learned some Capoeira in my physical education class at school, we call non-Brazilians “gringos,” and so on. This is my normal, and this is what my characters would see as normal too, because I don’t know any different.

At the very core, all my characters are influenced by my country’s history, by our relationship with other countries, and by the values my parents taught me, passed down to them by my Indigeous-Spanish-Portuguese-German foremothers/fathers. :P

The main, more palpable way my heritage influences my characters, though, is through humor and theme. I think Brazilians have a very specific, sharp, and often very smart kind of humor that, IMO, stems from the type of history our country has, and the way we look at life, sometimes translating pain into humor. As for themes, I usually write about what makes me angry... and there’s a lot in Brazil’s history and modern society that causes me that. :)

But all I know for sure is that I want to show the world Brazilians are much more than samba and soccer.

Q6: What is something you love to see in interactive fiction?

Other people! In the same way I add my history and worldview to my creations, I always approach stories thinking that there’s a whole, well, history behind them. And I love that! Also, I adore choices that feel impactful + good friendships and family relationships + soft romances with mutual respect. ♥

Q7: Any advice to give?

Hmm. Be proud and celebrate who you are and where you’re from. Learning and understanding the world inside us is a life-long process, so it’s always a victory to discover new pieces of ourselves. :) Also, if you can, talk to people that come from different cultures than yours to expand your worldview, don’t be afraid to be soft (the world needs more kindness), and please study personal finance. Seriously. XD

I had the problem with how they portrayed like carlos can't be there for tk in any bad situation and like every time tk will feel sad he will turn to someone else, like if it was only about addiction I understand, but grief is not an addiction and he still turned to cooper and not carlos. And that's not healthy, if they won't talk about bad things it will explode eventually and that's what I afraid of. I didn't see any move from tk to try and let carlos in.

I'm not saying they don't talk about bad things - there's a lot we don't see on camera bc of the nature of the show and I get that - but it came across that way for sure. It came across as TK is never going to let Carlos be there and he's always going to turn to someone else when things get hard bc Carlos might not understand. And that's not fair to Carlos in any way. Do I think it was meant to come across that way? No not really but that's how it did to me.

I won't say I didn't see any moves from TK bc I DID. He heard what Carlos was saying and he came home instead of going to the meeting when he probably would've and should've went. Did they protray it correctly, not necessarily and that's not the fault of Rafa or Ro (bc they were stellar as always) it's how the writers wrote it - it always comes back to the writers. He also heard what Carlos was saying at the table and tried to explain but we know words have never been TKs strong suit so it might not have come across as him hearing Carlos but I know he did.

Should they have let Carlos be the one to comfort him about Gwyn/the hard call at work? Absolutely. No question. There's no reason he couldn't. Should they have given them more dialogue to better explain things? Definitely. Did I understand what they were trying to protray by Carlos calling Copper and leaving, sure did. It showed so much growth with Carlos and what he was learning about TK and how he can love him in multiple ways and how he's not going to be able to fix everything for him. Sometimes he has to take that step back and it showed Carlos understood that. It was what TK needed in that moment and you could see how happy/in love/heard/felt seen TK felt.

Do I wish for more? With this show always. But that's what fan fic is for I guess. I just hope the fics will do both sides of this equation justice. Bc its what their love deserves.

Okay besties, here’s why episode 4 will actually end up great

I am 99% certain that the promo is intentionally edited to be misleading. Plus, they wouldn’t put a breakup in there if there was an actual breakup. Suspense anyone? As many people already noted, the “are we breaking up” scene comes before TK enters the apartment (also where the hell are the stairs again??). Carlos is asking if they are breaking up because he feels like he betrayed TK’s trust, he hates being the source of his pain with everything TK has already gone through so he’s trying to give him space even though it hurts him too. OR he might also expect TK to want to end things considering their bumpy start but you know what we will get? CHARACTER GROWTH because this relationship is too damn important for both of them. So TK will enter the apartment

This will lead to an argument that will turn into a conversation about their relationship and where everything is going. Here we’ll get an explanation of the parents situation and a glimpse into Carlos’s story. If they decide to go with the homophobic parents storyline (ugh) then we’ll see vulnerable Carlos, which in its turn would reverse the roles and give TK a chance to be the support system for Carlos. In one of the promos, Rafael emphasized that Carlos is confident, but what if he worked really hard to gain this confidence? What if he didn’t share his own pain with TK to not put any burden on him? If Carlos is spared the homophobic parents fate, the most reasonable explanation would be that he doesn’t know where they stand. TK did tell Buck their relationship was serious, but does Carlos know? Considering the past with Alex, TK might have been holding his true feelings to himself even in a full blown relationship, and Carlos never addressed it either trying to give TK his time (would make sense considering how their relationship started). Maybe Carlos doesn’t know where they are going so he doesn’t want to involve his parents in case they don’t last. Here I expect a raw and dramatic scene with both of them realizing that what they have is worth fighting for, and we’ll get a declaration of true feelings. Maybe the first I love you? Huh?

Tarlos has been hyped up way too much to get only like 2 minor happy scenes in 2 episodes. We know they have and still are filming more scenes together so for me it just seems unreasonable to break them up and immediately bring them back together. Plus after the crossover Rafa tweeted Tarlos endgame, and we know the boys are just enthusiastic about the ship are we are.

My BIGGEST security is Ronen in his live with Oliver on Sunday. He was so hyped about episode 4, which wouldn’t be the case with a breakup. He tried not to say too much, and when Oliver assumed Tarlos was over because of Ronen’s ambiguity (poor guy, his heart almost broke), Ro was literally like heeeeell noooo. He also said that the scenes in episode 4 might become new fan favorites so of course it’s not a breakup. I’m putting all my money on a heartwarming love-declaring scene at the end. We will probably cry but not because of what the promo makes it look like

Oh this is going to be fun LOL. This is first anon back here again and ready to address the last anon who responded to me about the SM vs RO stuff because I'm bored tonight. 😂 Darling anon, there were no rose colored glasses on me when I brought up what I said comparing PP's behavior with SM to PP with RO. Just pure observation plus facts, that's all. Since you brought up more points, I'm interested in countering them with more facts and even a few personal thoughts of my own, if u don't mind. So here we go. (Your points are in purple btw.)

• To the first anon bringing up the promotion rafa has way more followers than SM does he doesn't actually need promotion as heavily as sm who only has a little over 4000 followers and he was trying to get his book to get numbers, it does not hurt to have someone on pedro's star quality promote it. // Lots of fans have brought this up as a reason for PP promoting SM more, but I don't buy it as being a valid explanation. Why? Just look at the promotion P has done for others in his life who have similar follower counts (and even greater than that) to RO's. Example: PP promoted Janicza Bravo and Jeremy Harris's Zola project and their Hollywood Reporter magazine cover over the past year or so. Not only did P feature them in his Insta stories, but he posted that pic of him biting the Zola screenplay book on his Insta and posted the Zola movie more than once. Now did those two people need his promotion? Not really, if you base it on the low follower argument that you're using to justify P's constant promo of SM. After all Janicza has +47K followers and Jeremy has +148K followers, which is certainly comparable to (if not more than) RO's +58K follower count...so they didn't need him to promo them. But P still did it because he clearly cherishes them as friends and their accomplishments. So similarly P could've promoted RO's LeMec or Faena work more than that one time, if P really wanted to...but funny how he's chosen not to. Point being? Seems like PP promotes and puts effort to those he truly cares about, not because they have low followers or for pure business reasons, but because he really cares. Y'all talk about how much you admire PP for being really giving and loving to those close to him. So why is it hard for some of you to believe that P might actually be putting more effort in showing SM off on Insta because that guy means much more to P than just business reasons?

• Also pedro has known sm longer even when he was ft so yeah like 2 or 3 of his family members either follow sm or have liked his post you make it out as his entire family does and that's not the case. // Oh, but those 3-4 family members of P following SM are a big deal...especially since many if not all of them only started following SM around the time PP started traveling and spending more time with SM last year. (I also noted that a few of PP's close friends followed SM too, and that happened last year as well.) And it doesn't seem like all of these people met SM personally at the time they started following him. Compare that to the time PP spent with RO. Lux was the only one who ended up following RO and that only happened after the NYC trip, when she most probably met him.

• But what I don't understand and what I keep seeing happening is how some like to erase the fact that rafa has seen p alot of times going back as far as may more so than sm has. // lol ok...this one shouldn't be hard to get, knowing what we do about RO. That guy barely broke up with his famous ex-bf months before and there's enough evidence to suggest that RO is the kind who enjoys being around certain types and living a certain lifestyle. So when someone wants a new prize, they're gonna put in hard work to try and get it, right? You should get where I'm going with this by now. But if you don't see it yet, here it is: RO probably didn't mind putting in the extra energy to fly and see P alot because he could've been hoping it might lead to something more for him later. Lots of people do more for another person they really wanna impress. Why would RO be any different here? He didn't mind following LE around either when they were still a couple. There's like a pattern going with RO here LOL.

• Now I'm not siding on either I'm just point out you cant cap for one and then completely block out the other when their on the same playing field. // After all I've seen, sorry but we'll just have to agree to disagree here. I still doubt alot that PP sees SM and RO in the same exact way. It's not even close right now.

• Even the ones who bring up Colombia that's not a win for you because he initially went to Colombia to see Cristina he didn't even go to Argentina and he had the chance to, hell SM had the chance to go to California for some time or delay his vacation to be with pedro in la and he didn't. // Sadly for you too, your reasoning about PP being in Colombia isn't a slam dunk win for you either, because we still don't know exactly why PP is visiting there. Many are assuming it's because of CU, but how does anyone really know for sure he went there for her?? Truth is we don't know right now. As for SM's reasons for not being in LA? I do have my own thoughts about that but I'll just leave them to myself. 😏

I typed alot here but I don't mind. I enjoy debates even on what others think are silly topics like this one. This was pretty fun tho lmao. 😂

Being honest, it's a little annoying seeing people complaining about the lava, about not wearing the masks all the time and I'm like it's a tv show doesn't have to be 100% real but maybe is just me. Now about my sons I'm freaking mad they cut those scenes but gonna trust Ro an Rafa and hope for those scenes they said would be or new faves to be the best this season and make me forget I'm mad about the cut ones.

lol, It’s a tv show, we have to suspend reality sometimes and I guess this time we’re gonna suspend it with Lava. I still find it hilarious but if the OG has shown us anything it’s that the creators like these extreme events.

As for the masks, I’m fine with the balance. TV shows dealing with covid is already hard enough since we’re still going through it and it’s hard to watch sometimes cause it triggers so many emotions. Hell, I’m a New Yorker and a cancer survivor, every time the show talks about 9/11 or cancer my heart hurts. Owen going into remission and his doctor saying that getting good news can be as hard as getting bad news and that survivors' guilt is a real thing hit me like a gut punch.

Also even though they didn’t show it, first responders get tested a lot, (I have friends in EMS and also working in nursing homes and they get tested weekly) so I’m going to assume the idea is that they’re okay around their crew cause they spend so much time together and get tested regularly. I can’t speak for others, but I’m good with how much they use masks and the times they acknowledged social distance. 🤷‍♀️

Prayer circle for the future scenes Ronen and Rafa keep hyping up, they are obviously proud of them, so hopefully they don’t cut them, not just for our sake but also for the boys.
