Buck & Eddie: In 6x13... no one in The Buckley-Diaz Family sat on Buck’s couch
Tumblr media
In 6x13 “Mixed Feelings” not only did Buck, Eddie and Chris stay in the kitchen area of Buck’s loft, they DID NOT sit on the couch and as a matter of fact, the camera angles remained focused on the kitchen while no other part of Buck’s loft was shown.  I noticed this while I was live blogging Monday night, I made a brief post about it and after further review of the episode, I realized Buck’s couch wasn’t shown at all in 6x13.  It was interesting especially since his living room area has been shown several times throughout season 6.
6x1 “Let the Games Begin”
Tumblr media
While Buck was cooking dinner and talking to Eddie about Bobby not choosing either of them to be interim captain, Chris said, “Buck, you don’t even have a couch” and the camera panned towards Buck’s living room to show the empty space where his black leather couch previously sat.
6x4 “Animal Instincts”
Tumblr media
His living room was shown when he told Connor and Kameron he would be their sperm donor and it was also shown earlier during the episode when Connor showed up to tell him he didn’t have to do it even though it was clear he wanted him to.
6x8 “9-1-1 What’s Your Fantasy?”
Tumblr media
There were several clear shots of Buck’s living room when Maddie and Chimney took Jee-Yun over there so Buck could babysit her for them while they went house hunting.
6x11 “In Another Life”
Tumblr media
After Buck was discharged from the hospital, his mother insisted she was going to buy him a couch.  She did but it wasn’t shown in his loft until 6x12 “Recovery”.
6x12 “Recovery”
Tumblr media
Buck couldn’t get comfortable on his new couch and people wouldn’t stop coming to his loft unannounced.  The couch his mother purchased was never shown up close and even when he was lying on it, it could barely be seen. Up to that point, every time Buck’s living room was shown, no couch was included.
Tumblr media
Buck went to Eddie’s and after he sat down on their Eddie’s couch, he immediately fell asleep.
Tumblr media
Eddie let Buck sleep and after he woke up, he went into the kitchen to talk to Eddie.
Tumblr media
Eddie asked Buck if he wanted a beer but Buck said he’d rather have some water (related post linked here).  Even after Buck sat down at the kitchen table, their Eddie’s couch could still be seen.  Reminder, Eddie’s kitchen has a door that’s been closed before by his ex-girlfriend after he broke up with her so it was a CHOICE to keep the door open so the couch could be seen.
6x13 “Mixed Feelings”
Tumblr media
While Eddie and Chris were in Buck’s loft with him, the camera angles REMAINED focused on the kitchen and the dinning room table where they were sitting.  Buck’s new couch was never shown even though it could be seen several times in 6x12 while Hen was visiting him and they sat at the table eating the pot roast Maddie made for his lunch.
Tumblr media
At the end of the episode, while Buck and Chris were preparing to bake cookies, the camera REMAINED focused on the kitchen area again and it didn’t show Buck’s couch.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Chris sat on Buck’s couch with him in 3x9 “Fallout”, Chris sat on it in 3x1 “Kids Today” and he sat on it again in 4x8 “Breaking Point”, therefore it was a CHOICE to keep the camera angles focused on the kitchen area while they were there in 6x13.
It’s certainly possible this could be a coincidence but that’s very unlikely especially since both Athena and Karen have mentioned in CANON the lack of belief in coincidences.  Also, the camera angles were PURPOSEFULLY positioned to stay focused on Buck, Eddie and Chris at the beginning of the episode even though it could have been placed in the kitchen like it was in 6x4, 6x8 and 6x12 to show Buck’s living room but it wasn’t.
Both the showrunner and OS have mentioned in separate interviews Buck’s new couch will meet an unlikely end sometime before the end of the season so it remains to be seen what will happen to it.  Since it wasn’t shown at all while Buck, Eddie and Chris were there, it further illustrates the couch metaphor and how it relates to Buck finding his couch/relationship at Eddie’s house.
Will he find his couch before the end of season 6?  Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question.

looking in my little brothers room makes me so depressed. for one, his room is bigger than mine. he has a full size mattress, i have a twin. he has a bigger desk my dad built for him. I asked him to build me one, too, but he never did. he has a tv stand and a bigger tv. im living in this tiny 6x8 box with a shitty mattress that pokes me and no room for anything. and no one cares to try and make it better for me.

Hello! Um, your writing is my fave, obvi! I've had a shit week this week (T Swizzle is the only thing saving it), so I was hoping for some Kaz hurt/comfort? I've had this idea floating around in my head for ages but I'm a terrible writer so I need you, Cal!!!
I saw a prompt that said Character A is worried about Charcter B and B tells them "We're not there yet/"It's not bad enough yet" which gives me The Feels™. I was wondering if you could do this with Kaz comes home to dind the reader during or after an asthma attack like on the bathroom floor trying not to die.
I'd literally cry (in a good way). ❤️
Not Quite There- Kaz Brekker
Okay!! I told you that this would be coming out at six tonight, but guess what? I REALLY wanted to post this so I guess that makes me a bit of a liar lol. I’m sorry that I let this get buried in my inbox, and that you had to wait THREE WEEKS for it to be written!! I promise, when I’m not trying to juggle like, four different things at once my response time to requests is fairly quick--quicker than three weeks, anyway!!
Fic type- this one is hurt because asthma attacks SUCK (I don't experience them but what I read made them sound like a hellscape.) but comfort because kaz brekker is oddly good at being comforting without really meaning to be

Most of the bathrooms in the Slat were connected to the rooms by process of a brown painted door, a golden knob with rust on the corners.
Most of the bathrooms in the Slat were nothing more than a small sink, a toilet, and a third of the space was covered in tiled flooring, a shower curtain hanging over it with a showerhead and a drain on the floor to accompany the curtain.
Kaz had occupancy of the entirety of the third floor, however, and considering the romance that'd developed and had been going on the better part of four years by then, and had been sharing a bed and a living space for eight months of those four years, you did, as well.
Kaz's bathroom was different because he'd had the luxury of being able to put the money he made towards renovations where they were needed.
To start, the bathroom was noticeably bigger. Where all the other bathrooms in the Slat were only a bit bigger than a cell in Hellgate--which was 6x8. The bathrooms in the slat were 8x9--Kaz's was bigger even still. The bathroom was 10x12.
On a particularly terrible day for his leg, Kaz had a bathtub installed so that he could soak it when the pain grew to a point of unmanageability. He also upgraded his shower head and added a mirror above the sink, to say the least of the embellishments that Kaz could afford.
It was almost a shame, you realized, as you continued in what'd begun to feel like an effort to cough up your right lung. You'd left your inhaler on your nightstand, and it would've made you feel terrible if you'd not had to remember that nobody expected an asthma attack to kick them in the lungs as they finished washing their face in front of the bathroom sink.
You'd ended up in the bathtub, coughing as you tried to intake more air and hoped that the attack would blow over and you wouldn't need to use your inhaler. Standing up would require more air than it was worth, and so, you didn't stand up in an effort to grab the inhaler yourself, only hoped you wouldn't need it even though part of you knew that you'd more than likely end up needing it and would have to put the effort into standing up and getting it amidst an attack anyway.
It was when Kaz opened the door, alarmed look on his face, that you mentally said a thank you to the saints above. You glimpsed your inhaler in Kaz's left hand, his cane clutched in his right.
"Are you okay?" He asked, shaking his head at himself as he proceeded into the bathroom, closing the door with a push from his cane as he entered.
He walked to the bathtub, offering your inhaler to you with a gloved hand.
"It's not bad enough yet," you said as your coughing finally dulled out. Maybe the inhaler hadn't been necessary, but you'd wait it out for the next few seconds just to be careful. "We're not there yet Kaz, but thank you for grabbing it. I was worried I'd have to grab it mid wheeze."
"Even if it's dulled, you're still coughing," like your lungs were trying to prove Kaz's point, another coughing spell emerged from the dust. "Take it. You need the meds."
You managed a sigh before taking the inhaler from him, popping off the cap that came from the mouth piece, and shaking it once, twice, three times, before you brought it to your lips and pressed down on the medication twice as you inhaled slowly.
As the medication settled and did its thing, your coughing finally dulled out and your breathing got to the process of returning to normal.
"Thank you for worrying, Kaz," you said as you popped the mouthpiece cover back onto the inhaler. "I appreciate it immensely."
"I wasn't worried," he said. Neither of you explicitly stated it, but both of you knew that it was a lie. "Just can't have you, one of the best on my crew dying because of asthma. There are more heroic ways to die."
"And certainly more poetic ones," you agreed. Kaz offered you his cane for a moment, and you used it to get to standing, passing it back to him as you stepped out of the bathtub. "Thank you, Kaz. Really."
"I care about you, Y/N. An inhaler near the end of your attack was the least I could've done to show such a thing."
You gave him a grin, and the two of you headed out of the Slat and to the Crow Club together, inhaler tucked into your coat pocket just in case.

Every writers room works diferently, some respect like "ranks" so certain writers can call dibs on episodes but overall they try to fit the writer with whatever they do best (action, comedy, light episode, big action scene). It doens't have to be all the episode but like a big emotional scene (let's say 6x8) would require certain approach.
Yeah I would assume the 100th episode would try to have a mix of everything, but we'll see. I hope they're able to do a good call while also highlighting the things that have made the show special all these years.

Eddie Diaz is an awesome dad!
Eddie is an awesome dad who will do anything for his son Christopher.  He left El Paso, TX after his parents tried to convince him to leave Chris with them but he relocated to Los Angeles, CA. He moved so that he could give himself and his son a fresh start. Eddie bought a house and he had a familial support system in his abuela Isabel and his aunt Pepa because they were already living in L.A. He attended the LAFD academy and after he graduated at the top of his class, several different firehouses wanted to recruit him.
He’s sacrificed so much for Chris including quitting his job in 2021 right before Christmas because Chris was scared Eddie would get hurt again or worse he could die while working as a firefighter.  He does his very best to be there for his son and he works hard to provide for him.  Eddie is an awesome dad and he’s demonstrated how awesome he is as Chris’ dad for years.
2x2 “7.1 – Eddie took Chris to school before he went to work.
2x4 (2) “Stuck” – Eddie got ready for work while Chris got ready for school.
3x4 “Triggers” – Eddie comforted Chris after he had a nightmare about his mother.
3x13 “Fools” – Eddie had a conversation with Chris about skateboarding after Chris fell off one of his classmate’s skateboards while he was at school.  Eddie explained to Chris that everyone has things they can’t do and he used himself as an example.  He explained how Chris’s science teacher told him how Chris was good at growing plants but Eddie admitted he wasn’t.
3x18 “What’s Next?” – Eddie and Chris attended May’s graduation party and Chris went away from home for two weeks to attend his first summer camp.
4x2 “Alone Together” – Eddie spent time with Chris while Carla read Chris a bedtime story on FaceTime.
5x6 “Brawl in Cell Block 9-1-1” – After being held at gunpoint by an escaped convict, Eddie went home and spent time talking to his son.
5x10 (2) “Wrapped in Red” – Chris had a nightmare about his mother and Eddie rushed into his room after he heard him scream to check on him. Chris told Eddie he could be dead next year and Eddie quit the 118 so Chris wouldn’t have to worry about him.
5x11 “Outside Looking In” – After Eddie quit the 118, his new job wasn’t what he hoped it would be but he stuck it out so Chris didn’t have to worry about him.  Chris asked him if he missed being a firefighter and Eddie said he did.  During a conversation with Eddie, Chris told him he should return to firefighting and explained how it is scary sometimes but he could be brave.
5x14 “Dumb Luck” – Chris asked Eddie if he was one of the things that makes him sad and Eddie responded, “NEVER!”
6x4 (2) “Animal Instincts” – Eddie got a call from Chris’ school explaining that Chris had been skipping his science club meetings.  Eddie took away his video games but one night Chris waited until Eddie fell asleep and he played the games anyway.  Eddie listened to Chris when he said he didn’t want to be treated like a baby anymore and he reminded Chris that he couldn’t be disrespectful after he called Eddie a jerk.
6x7 “Cursed” – Eddie took Chris to his surfing lesson.
6x8 “9-1-1 What’s Your Fantasy?” – Eddie helped Chris get ready for his first school dance and he waited outside of the school with Carla until the dance was over.  He was so proud of his son and he had tears in his eyes.

MP - Room 6x8 website
LO1, LO2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking at the visual identity of Room 6x8, a curational space which presents contemporary artwork, I feel the colour palette and the navigation of the website feel relevant to the idea of contemporary visuals and discovery. The layered UI creates a dynamic experience of navigation. If not applied towards my FMP, it could be interesting research for my personal portfolio and branding as I feel the way it presents work is interesting.
Images are presented on a scrolling gallery, I feel this could be a good navigation to adopt as it mimics the style of social media scrolling, giving the artefacts more context to the places in which they can be found.
The website was selected by Award360, a body which selects 100 best design works a year. I feel this accolade makes the website particularly relevant to contemporary practice.
