I bought The Chipmunk Adventure on DVD. Now I can compare it to the Blu-Ray Rip circulating the internet

As much as I prefer the DVD Colors (mainly the greens and blues) The Blu-Ray's Colors are more accurate to the Animation cels.

Note: The 2014 Diamond Edition DVD uses the same widescreen video as the Blu-Ray. But in 480p instead of 720p. I sourced my video from the 2006 DVD. The 2008 Reprint is the same Disc but has different art

I actually prefer these original chipmunk designs over the ones we're all familiar with. Those don't look like chipmunks at all. And why Fox didn't use these designs as a guide for their garbage live-action Alvin films perplexes me.

For those who don't know the story, I'll narrow it down in a nutshell: Liberty Records on the verge of collapse after just two and a half years of operation. Top Liberty artist Ross Bagdasarian is pressured to put out a hit. Ross buys a tape recorder to record himself at different speeds. He creates the character "David Seville". He puts out the surprise hit "Witch Doctor". He's pressured to follow it up. He creates the Chipmunks and writes and records "The Chipmunk Song" in time for the Christmas season. Ross singlehandedly saves Liberty from bankruptcy. And that's that.

Way to go, Ross. Way to go.

When the Chipmunks became a worldwide sensation thanks to The Alvin Show in 1961, Liberty had Pate/Francis change the cover to include the newly redesigned the characters. This cover is the basis for all subsequent issues of the album.

Good luck finding the original cover now, but hey, you might be lucky.

Released under his real name, this song was released as a single with B-side Scallywags and Sinners. A shorter, more humorous version was released on the 1966 album The Mixed-Up World of Bagdasarian.

Number 2: The Chipmunks "The Chipmunk Song" Sure, it's a gimmick, but it's a charming gimmick. The manipulation of tape speed to create the Chipmunk effect was innovative for 1958. There is so much to listen to in the song, from the melodies to the dialogue, and the waltz format gives it a wistful feel. The song was also very successful, earning no less than 3 Grammys and being the first Christmas song to top the Billboard Hot 100, a feat which would not happen again until The Song That Won't Be Mentioned by Mariah. All in all, a worthy song to be my Number 2 Favorite Christmas Song. https://youtu.be/joAXosrtocg

no one asked/cares but i saw this tweet in a toy collector group and its SO fascinating to me. ross bagdasarian jr (been the owner of the property since his father's death) has a quiet reputation of being very intense and demanding behind the scenes, so it's wild to have a tweet from an animator basically confirming that this was the case. most telling is the date here (1988): "the chipmunk adventure" came out in 1987 and was able to be animated BEAUTIFULLY because disney had let go of a huge chunk of its animators following the box office failure of "the black cauldron" and bagdasarian productions quickly hired them to animate their upcoming theatrical release. seeing the super high quality of that animation after years of saturday morning cartoon animation probably drove bagdasarian to demand that level of quality for the seasons of the show following the movie. there are also stories of the animators for "the chipmunk adventure" working under tremendous pressure and crunch, so it's not an isolated incident either.
