Note: Character drabble. Thank you @minaa-munch for your help and support with this.
-
The kunai is slick with blood, her hand slips on it and it's through sheer force of will that she doesn't let it go. It is too dark to see if the kunai had done what it had intended to do after all. There is blood, yes. A lot of it. Running down her hands, down her arm. She can feel it. She can smell the sickening, coppery stench of it.
She doesn't let go of the kunai, still. Not when her hand trembles slightly. She steadies it soon enough. It doesn't take all that much strength to push the kunai further into quivering flesh. Ensuring the job is done. Somehow, when life has left the body, she just knows. It is then, as the body slumps to the ground, surprisingly silent, that she turns her head and buries her face in the softness of the brown locks of the three year old curled up against her, oblivious to what is happening around him, smiling sweetly in his sleep.
There's movement outside. Subtle but she can pick up on it, regardless.
One arm curls protectively against the small vulnerable form, the other raises the kunai once again, ready to cut down any threat as the door opens, the light flickering in revealing the vicious gleam in sharp hazel eyes. Flanked by guards, it is the familiar crimson of her grandmother's hair, streaked with white, that she sees. She doesn't lower the kunai. Drops of blood still drip from the metal.
The slightly startled eyes of the Uzumaki move from the crimson stained kunai to the corpse laying on the wooden floor and a flicker of regret passes through her eyes before she regains her composure and locks her eyes with the hazel of her granddaughters. "Nawaki"?
The reply doesn't come instantly. Suspicion is thick within her. As is the need to protect. "...was scared so came here..." the voice that responds isn't that of a child, as it should have been. Something the Uzumaki notices but doesn't comment on. The next minute makes her witness the stiffening of the young blonde's limbs and a mere second later she's covering the vulnerable form of her sibling with her own small frame, the kunai that had been clutched in her hand, having been hurled at the window.
The sound of glass shattering. More movement in the dark. Hurried steps. A startled cry somewhere outside. Tsunade registers it all from her position, but doesn't move. The only thought in her mind is to protect the innocence of the small creature that had won her heart the moment she had first laid eyes on those precious almond eyes, as the new born baby had curled a  tiny fist into her pale locks.
Must protect.
She's functioning on instinct alone, now. Something that the others in the room realize, for none comes close to her even as one of the guards flanking her grandmother moves to stand before the window, instead.
All is quiet within the room. The sounds of the fight taking place outside keeping everyone's intention occupied, their senses heightened. "....taken care of...." pauses between flickering words as people come and go, reporting to her grandmother "...assassins.." she doesn't pay much attention. They don't matter as long as they don't approach them "...On his way..."
He's safe. Nawaki is safe. Nothing else matters. She will keep him safe.
"Tsunade?" It was minutes later, or hours, she could not say for sure. But eventually came the familiar voice; breaking through her frizzled senses and she looks up, slowly, into the solemn face of the Sandaime Hokage. An ANBU appears behind him, startling the blonde slightly in her agitated state and yet the Sandaime's hand coming to rest on her head keeps her from reacting. "Perimeter secured, Hokage-sama." Sarutobi nods and the ANBU disappears.
"You're safe now." the words wash over her. Achingly slow, she turns her head to look at the small form of her brother, still asleep, still utterly unaware of all that took place this night and she finally relaxes. Sarutobi's gentle hands are on her shoulders. Their rough feel and comfortable warmth so familiar that she puts up no struggle as he maneuvers her to sit on the edge of the bed and then he's kneeling before her - where the corpse had laid before - his face on the same level as hers and she feels her control crumble. Her hands tremble. He grabs them though, steadying them, uncaring of the blood that still coats one of her hands.
She can't meet his eyes though. It’s too hard. The taste in her mouth is so bitter and no matter how much she swallows, it doesn't go away. He's talking to her but she can't hear the words. She tries but no words would reach her ears even as she sees his lips move. Panic is setting within her now. She breathes deeply. Once. Twice. But it was hard to pull in air. Her scared eyes finally rose in panic to meet her sensei's. The next minute, she found herself enveloped in his embrace, his hands moving soothingly through her hair and that was all it took for the eight-year-old to revert back to the child she was underneath all the expectations and skills associated with the Senju name. She sobbed against her sensei's chest, finally letting out the fear she'd refused to feel all this time. She finally embraced the trauma of having taken a human being's life.
An hour later, they are seated in the main hall, the cup of tea held in her now clean hands cooling as she huddles under a blanket. A few uneasy looks are exchanged at her presence in matters that should not be shared in the presence of anyone as young, yet the unwavering stare of the Sandaime Hokage as he sits next to her, ensures that they not say what is on their minds. Someone as young shouldn't have had to do what she did either, is the only explanation Sarutobi Hiruzen gives when one of her father's cousin's expresses his unease at her presence. The matter is resolved with those few words alone.
And so, the details of the failed assassination attempt are shared. She listens silently. The cup of tea sits there, not a drop drank. The scalding warmth against her hands is all she needs - a reminder of what those hands had done. Killed. And protected. Nawaki is safe and with their mother now. ANBU stationed all around the compound to ensure safety. She can finally relax. Yet her mind is in turmoil. For all appearances she is listening to ever word that is being said. When her mind is still replaying on the feeling of life leaving a human body. Over and over she experienced it, trapped within her mind.
It is when she feels the gentle hands of her grandmother, trying to pry open her fingers so that she can take the cup away that she snaps back to reality. The held hostage cup is released and she instead pulls the blanket more over herself. Uzumaki Mito offers her just a tentative smile but says nothing and returns to her seat. Silence resumes. It is only now that Tsunade realizes that it’s just the three of them in the room. That her grandmother and sensei are giving her time to sort out her thoughts and speak.
Yet she isn't sure what to say. Unless...
Hazel eyes fix themself on the figure of her grandmother, a flame of determination burning within her. "Can you teach me medical jutsu?" This was not a path she had ever considered before. Her strength, inherited from her grandfather, had always paved her way as a close-range combat. She was to be a taijutsu specialist. Her and Sarutobi had that conversation not a month ago. For her to ask this...
The room remained oddly silent following her request. Sarutobi frowns slightly before looking at her to determine what had caused this change in her chosen path. What he sees is determination though. Yet the question remains - what had prompted this? "Tsuna?" this was not the time to pull rank. She needed family and so it was so easy to switch to the name he had called her by before he had become her sensei. "Do you regret it? Killing the assassin?" It would be understandable. She had acted on pure instinct, after all. She was still too young to...yet he finds her shaking her head and sighs. What's with his students always making things more difficult?
Tsunade knows though that she doesn't regret what she did. And though her fists shake, she knows she can never regret what she had done. "I'd have killed as many as I needed to. He was a threat to Nawaki." Sarutobi and Mito choose to not point out how the assassin had been just as much of a threat to her too - especially since he'd gotten as close as he did. How it was sheer luck that she had taken the assassin by surprise, as she had. Yet they held their tongues, allowing the young kunoichi to voice out her thoughts.
"I just...didn't like it though." The determination is still visible. Yet her unease is also palpable. She pauses once again, her eyes flickering between the two elders, and in that moment, all the Sandaime Hokage and the Uzumaki elder can see is exactly how young she is - wrapped in the large blanket that seems to be swallowing her small frame whole, leaving visible only a face which is clinging desperately onto those childlike looks. And they also realize that there is nothing they can do to take away the burden of expectations off her. She is Senju Hashirama’s granddaughter, after all.
Her words linger between them, almost as if something was haunting them. Sarutobi takes the time in which he is organizing his thoughts to take out his pipe and light it, as his intelligent eyes observe her. This time when he speaks, he cannot afford the luxury of giving her the response from a familial perspective. "You aren't supposed to like it either, Tsunade." He chooses to let the sensei take over though, granting her the favour of keeping the Hokage out of the conversation, still. He can do as much for her. She seems to be mulling over his words, confusion clear in those eyes that have somehow retained their innocence, regardless of what this night had demanded of her. His calloused hands raise the pipe to his lips and takes a draw as he chooses his words with care. "In our chosen profession, taking a life is a necessity." He waits till she nods her head, all her attention and trust directed his way - the thought adds to the weight on his already weary shoulders - before continuing "That in no way means you should start liking the act."
The words seem to relax her a bit. So, she had been worried about them judging her for her choices after all? “Now then would you care to elaborate why the sudden interest in Medical Ninjutsu?” he asks when it's apparent she’s not going to speak herself. It’s an odd choice he won’t deny. But something that is oddly fitting. The sandaime’s eyes move from his female student to the Uzumaki elder, a thoughtful look on his face. The more he thinks about it, the more the idea seems to click into place. With the young Kunoichi’s near perfect chakra control and the genetic pool…Uzumaki Mito would be able to teach the young Senju techniques that had never before been practiced within Konoha. Techniques few alive had perhaps the ability to learn. Tsunade had the innate ability to potentially master them though.
Yet he wants to know why she had asked for such a sudden change in their plans. He wants to understand her reason. For it is important. It is too huge a step. Too big a decision to make. And though he knows Tsunade has the stubbornness to never back down, the path she is asking to go down is not an easy one. It will demand a lot from the Konoichi. She wants to cling to life so desperately. That is obvious. Does she realize though that the life of a medic is surrounded by even more death and loss than a regular nin’s? He doubts it. This is something only time will teach her though. As it had done with Biwako. Yet he still needs to know why? He needs to understand what will drive her on. And so, he waits.
Tsunade on the other hand is still somewhat lost in her thoughts. The conformation that taking a life wasn’t meant to ever feel good, even in their profession gave her a bit of comfort and yet…she was back there, in that moment when her kunai sliced through flesh, when the warm blood poured over her hand, when she knew the exact moment life had abandoned what had been a living breathing human being, before. She clenches her eyes shut and takes another breath to steady herself. When she opens them again, she kept her gaze locked onto the wooden surface of the table, a finger gently tracing the worn out patterns on the surface. “I just…don’t want to be someone who can only take a life…” it was easy to want to be a skilled kunoichi in theory. Which gennin didn’t think of their first kill? Half terrified of it, the other half anticipating it, for only that one act could allow you to become more than a theoretical ninja. That was simply the way it was.
She too had envisioned it. Taking a life. It was her duty as a kunoichi of the hidden leaf. It was her right as one belonging to the Senju line to do all she could in service of her village and Hokage. There was even this silly little bet she had going on with her teammates regarding who in their team would be the first one to kill. Orochimaru had wanted no part in it. Jiraiya had been boastful about how he’d be the first one to do so. While also foolishly declaring to her – in his usually annoying way – how he’d do it to save her life and how after that she’d have no option but to ‘love him’. Orochimaru had just gotten tired of their argument and had declared himself as the prime candidate, listing his ever-growing list of ninjutsu as a justification of why it would be him. She’d of course chosen to bet on Orochimaru – mostly to spite Jiraiya. She had of course lost that bet.
Wanting to experience your first kill was so vastly different from having had taken a life already. She hasn’t felt horror. She’d felt no excitement, either. All she had felt was…emptiness. And a tinge of grief. Over how easy it was to end life. At the realization of how terribly fragile life was. That grief lingered. The emptiness was filled with the blooming warmth of an unexpected idea. “If I can take a life…I want to be able to save it too…”
Another prolonged period of silence follows her declaration. She doesn’t break it, though. She waits. Even as her heart starts beating loudly in her ears, she continues to stare at the wooden surface, refusing to raise her gaze. And then…finally: “You know it won’t be easy, child. It is not an easy path. Nor a quick one. It will take years of practice and study. More work than you have been doing up till now. Do you realize that?” those words are of her grandmother’s and she raises her eyes to the woman she secretly loves more than her own mother and nods.
“I do…!” her words are soft. Yet sure.
Her grandmother’s dark eyes are sharper than she is used to seeing them. Assessing. Tsunade holds the gaze even if it makes her somewhat uncomfortable. Eventually the elder woman nods and the young blonde feels utter relief. And then her eyes flicker to the man who would also have a say in the matter as she tilts her head in his direction, the request obvious in her eyes. “Sensei?”
It was with the sun already having made its presence known as dawn touched the horizon that the young blonde finds herself in bed once more, a satisfied smile on her face as her fingers gently traced her baby brother’s soft cheek. As sleep finally claims her, there are only two thoughts on her mind; Nawaki is safe and she is going to be a medic.

How are the Yukinohana regarded in Konoha? What's their reputation among the other clans, if there's any?
Calis Anonymous || impromptu asks I cherish immensely.
Yukinohana are not a terribly renowned tribe in Konoha; while some older shinobi would remember Yukinohana Gokyoudai [The Five Yukinohana Siblings] as they took part in the First Shinobi World War and showed off their prowess, Yukinohana history has been forgotten by most in the long run, also because they had no kekkei genkai or special ninjutsu to be remembered for (which are usually distinctive traits in ninja clans, and that is also the reason why the concept of ‘kazoku’ [tribe] has been lost to most compared to ‘ichizoku’ [clan]).
After the Fourth Shinobi World War, with Ainai’s, Yoshino’s older sister, retirement and the rise to power of her children, Sakana, Tora and Tori, the Yukinohana have almost disappeared, either merged into other hidden villages or simply driven away by the harsh lifestyle dictated by their place of living, Yukinohana Shokumin. That means less and less people even remember Yukinohana exist in the first place.
Ironically, shinobi with a certain culture about ninja history would more easily remember Yoshino’s mother’s clan, the Kokuyoseki, because they were a fierce ninja clan (ichizoku) who possessed a peculiar and strong kekkei genkai, Kakogan no Hada [Skin of Granite], even if now their clan doesn’t exist anymore except for the last two Yukinohana heiresses, Ainai and Yoshino (one who inherited the clan’s bloodline limit and the other who received the fatal illnesses derived from Kokuyoseki’s genetic mutation).
As long as their reputation among the other clans is regarded, the only clan who I can see having a sort of lingering memory or remembrance about Yukinohana would be the Senju clan, since Tobirama and Chang’e (the second Yukinohana chieftain) worked together to ensure new territories to Yukinohana and military help to Konoha.
I would love to think that, after Yoshino’s tragic death, Shikamaru starts compiling an encyclopedia for Yukinohana history using Yoshino’s tales of her people and also by doing independent research (visiting Yukinohana Shokumin, consulting other tomes on shinobi history, etc.) to keep Yoshino’s memory alive not only as the first lady of Nara, as Kenchona Mejika [The Great Doe], but also as the princess of Yukinohana.
My trivia for this is how upset Yoshino gets when someone mistakenly calls the Yukinohana ‘a clan’ instead of ‘a tribe’: she has had her fair share of people spitting this kind of misinformation in her youth and will chew somebody’s ear off with all her explanations about the difference between clans and tribes.

[@KonohagakureKakashi Hatake Clan Headcanons]
Shirōki Hatake (1) is believed to be the first of his Clan (畑一族, Hatake Ichizoku). He was a tall, slender man with silver, wayward tuffs and sunken, coal hues. His skin was pale, despite the many hours spent underneath the glower of the sun and his features, more pretty than handsome (2). He had no particular talents, except for an affinity to the different types of earth and its animals; yet he still managed to attain the position of a Kenin to the region’s wealthy and influential Daimyō; administering his compound affairs and tending to the Feudal Lord’s various fields and paddies. It was whilst he was in service of the Daimyō that he learned the ways of Būshido (3) as the Daimyō’s senior Gōkenin, a Samurai referred to as Kaishū (4), took a keen interest in the Hatake’s quick wit, work ethic and his courtesy to the spirits of the lands he minded.
The Daimyō had no heirs, so when a sudden bout of disease took the Daimyō’s life and most of the servants', the Daimyō’s dwellings, title and all of his fields and paddies fell to the senior administrator of his estate (as was custom) Kaishū. The warrior ever honourable and humble—did not believe that he warranted such an inheritance, despite his many, many years of service to the late Daimyō and proceeded to gift the Hatake with the wild rice fields to the west, together with a straight-bladed tantō (5), whilst he continued to dwell within the Daimyō’s compound with its numerous views of the mountains.
The Hatake accepted both gifts (as it would be discredit to their years of friendship not to) took a young wife by the name of Shisō (6) and settled in Ta no Kūni, their home expanding with the amount of their children. It is not specifically stated when the Hatake started to mould Chakra and traded the way of Būshido for the way of the Shinobi, but there is a story that has been passed down from father to son over many a bowl of Takikomi—the tale of the Keubiko Kami (7) and how he came to be. It was said that after the birth of his first son, Shirōki Hatake ran afoul a group of bandits in the village where he often went to sell his sacks of rice, bringing to light their nature and intent to the villagers (the what and how seems to alter from story to story). The bandits enraged followed him to his dwelling, providing the Hatake with just enough time to send his wife and child into the woods signifying the border. The bandits gravely outnumbered the man and took turns to beat him until his silver strands were caked in dirt and blood, his deft features unrecognisable. The bandits tied the Hatake and popped him up onto a wooden pole to suffer a slow death, if not from his injuries then surely from the elements; whilst serving a dual purpose to remind people of what would happen should anyone interfere with their business (8).
The Hatake suffered a great deal, not knowing if his wife and child made it to the Land of Woods—body broken and crows pecking at the blisters on his skin. Eventually, the spirits he always revered took pity on him, calling forth heavy clouds to block out the sun and cool droplets of rain to wash away the blood and soak his arid crops. A white flash of lightning (9) was their last succour, the flare burning through his bonds, causing the Hatake to fall into the mud, yet he did not move as he became buried in it; the wet earth cool on his scorched skin. Days passed, weeks, months; perhaps even years until the layers of earth cracked and parted as a pale hand pushed its way through. The spirits had endowed him with divinity, for gone was the wounds he incurred. He felt stronger, faster and his senses all but heightened (10). The white lightening that freed him from his perch seemed to have found its way into his core, coiling outward through his whole body. Moreover he found that his lands did not fall into disrepair, but expanded—the fields filled with bodies resembling him or Shisō in some way or another, be it the varying shades of silver hair or the sunken grey hues (11). Shirōki took it upon himself to tell them his story and to provide them with the skills necessary to defend their lands from threats, like he was unable to and when he deemed them fully equipped, he set out to the Graveyard Mountains; returning only during the Harvest Festivals (12) to make sure they still honoured the spirits and his teachings. If the tale held any truth was up for debate, but none could confute that it made for a pleasant bedtime story for tired, little pups; much like the tale of the ‘God Tree’ (13) Fire Country residents told to their young ones.
However the clan came about their skills, it was clear that they could already use Chakra during the Warring States Era. The Hatake was still denizen in Ta no Kūni (Land of Rice Paddies now modern day Land of Sound) and were a part of the other, minor (yet loyal) clans that sought to keep Ta no Kūni and its traditions from being swallowed up by the might of Hi no Kūni (The Land of Fire) which housed other, more powerful clans. In order to keep themselves and their resident Feudal Lord (Still the family of Kaishū) secure, they would need to be smart; as the small, tight-knit clan never had impressive Chakra reserves or a Bloodline Limit. The then clan head, Hatake Kunio (14) organized a spy network, consisting primarily of his own clan members, who would infiltrate different regions, representing different income groups; from farmers and peddlers to the attendants in the Daimyō’s court. More often than naught, a Hatake spy would align him/herself with another clan (mostly civilian) and spend most of their years with said clan, maintaining their silence and intel transfers throughout their lives.
Unless a clansman or clanswoman was operating directly under the daimyō of Ta no Kūni, they would not wear their clan symbol, due to the nine-pointed diamond’s resemblance to a target. As previously mentioned the Hatake has always been one of the smaller clans, fondly referring to themselves as ‘pack’ as opposed to kinfolk- thus marking their members did more harm rather than good. Apart from the clan sigil acting as a bull’s eye for enemy clans it also discouraged neutral parties (blacksmiths, farmers and so forth) from interacting with or supplying them for fear of retaliation and deprived them of a civilian’s plausible deniability, which was what Hatake Kumio-sama’s espionage network solely relied upon.
The network or ‘Gen'ya no Ban'nin’ (15) as it was whispered within the Daimyō’s winding corridors, proved to be highly successful. Their agents were timely - and very crafty and was able to move, undetected and undeterred from the Daimyō’s residence, the compounds of his court and clans to various villages via deep, dark tunnels that snaked their way underneath the various rice paddies and fields the Hatake was known to cultivate (16). Not all of these tunnels lead to a strategic destination. Some passageways lead to dead-ends; others were heavily rigged with traps and would cave-in should a non-pack member find their way into its depths, whilst some sloped down into black pits. Thus only a Hatake with their heightened senses and know-how would be able to navigate the warrens successfully. The Hatake clan with their animism beliefs also formed strong bonds with canines (or Ninken) who was said to have their own supply of special Chakra (17). With their heightened senses and abilities, the Ninken worked well in tandem with the clan to assist and make up for the Hatake’s own limited reserves. They assisted with day to day tasks in the fields, served as an added pair of eyes and ears and were back-up in any confrontational situation. Most importantly, since they were able to blend in well in both the villages, cities and countryside, the Hatake trusted them with dispatching their reports, the intel giving the Daimyō’s stronghold enough time to fortify itself from incoming invasions/assassinations.
Tragedy however, came in the form of an unfortunate run-in at the Fire Daimyō’s court, where a member of the main branch was found out due to a Yamanaka’s mind technique. Chaos ensued and a few precious details were spilt, before the Hatake prisoner managed to kill himself by biting off his own tongue. The chain of events lead to the Hatake’s trade being compromised, as bounty-posters were placed all over Hi no Kūni advising of the clan’s signature hair and their sunken, hoary hues.--The clan’s hesitance to wear a sigil now moot. (*The incident, along with a few others, served as the necessary incentive for the Fire Daimyō to consider the Senju-Uchiha alliance.)
What was once Ta no Kūni’s greatest weapon was now a blemish. Thankfully, around this time, the Warring States Era was coming to a close, with Konohagakure no Sato emerging as the first shinobi village. Most shinobi clans, who had seen only dwindling populations and life expectancies, considered this a kami-sent and turned to the Feudal Lords of their own lands to consider similar courses of action. In Ta no Kūni it was a different story. They had never been a rich country to begin with, relying mainly on agriculture and the production of Sake; but with their precious spy network compromised, injunctions were taken against them by their regular traders. Thus their doors were blown open and their dwindling stores lay bare. The imperial house pointed fingers at everyone but itself the moment the other Daimyōs incited a bit of pressure, including the one clan that had sworn their loyalty to the imperial house since the days of ‘the Sickness’ and them alone. Needless to say the Hatake did not take it well. Most were enraged that the Daimyō would undermine everything they had done, whilst some were of the opinion that maybe that was just it - their services, everything they had done for the country, was why it had fallen the way it had.
Most of the other minor clans were incapable of espionage and would rely on brute guerrilla warfare; creating a heavy dependency on the ‘Gen'ya no Ban'nin’. Regardless, it was too late for regrets. The lack of resources caused civil unrest and pit shinobi clan against shinobi clan. Ironically, the Warring States Era has ended, but in Ta no Kūni, it felt like it had begun anew - the Daimyō was eventually assassinated and the then Hatake clan head, Hatake Kabocha (18) (firstborn son of Kumio) ended up going down the seppūku route because of his failure to protect the figurehead. The ensuing chaos, along with the cracks that already existed within the clan did not allow them to choose another leader.
Instead, the Hatake was forced to level their compound and collapse the majority of their caverns over night, afore fleeing into Yūgakure. The Hatake served a nomadic existence for a time thereafter, relying on hunter/gatherer practices which were a far cry from their traditional compulsions to sow seeds and take root. The constant wandering started to wear down the younger clan members, many opting to remain in the small civilian settlements the clan would sometimes meander through to restock on supplies. In a bid not to lose anymore pack, having already been bereaved of family members via seppūku (9), breaking away or being killed in the numerous Clan skirmished in Ta no Kūni; the clan finally relented and made their way to the one place they were attempting to avoid at all costs- Hi no Kūni. It was the largest of the Elemental Nations with the most fertile soil. The clan half-heartedly settled on the north bank of Black River, their crops small and for subsistence at first, consisting mainly of root vegetables like Daikon and Lotus. Word of their venture into Fire Country spread and before the first saplings could push through the soil, they were visited by a squadron of Konohagakure Shinobi—but not to career them from the Land as the Hatake initially thought, rather to make them an offering and a simple one at that: soil within the village in exchange for their loyalty and all of the skills that the clan possessed. It would seem the Fire Daimyō was rather insisted that all Shinobi be held accountable under one village (as per his agreement with the Senju/Uchiha). Further roving was no longer an option for the descendants of Hatake Shirōki, nor could they return to Ta no Kūni where only the Fuma Clan (20) remained and a new Fuedal Lord had taken seat—Consequently the Hatake became Shinobi of the Hidden Leaf and served the village as best they could.
End Note: This piece is mostly based off of Mythologies, History and personal Headcanons. If you don’t agree with it, fine. You are more than welcome to write your own. ^^
Piece Notes: (1) Shirōki- The First Hatake: Name meaning ‘White Sake presented as an offering to the gods’. A play on the rice-farming for sake thing, as well as the Keubiko Myth.
(2) I mean, have you seen Sakumo and Kakashi’s faces?! I bet grandmas want to pinch their cheeks all the time.
(3) Būshido-The Samurai code of Honour
(4) Kaishū-Samurai and Gōkenin (Stewart) of the Daimyō later inherits his lands and title. I got the name from Katsu Kaishū who was a famous Gōkenin Samurai from 1823-1899.
(5) The Tantō is the White Light Chakra Sabre that will be passed down from Hatake head to his heir and is the short sword that Sakumo and later Kakashi uses.
(6) Shisō- The Hatake Matriarch: Name meaning Basil. You’ll note that most Hatake names refer to farming and produce. It’s a clan thing.
(7) The Keubiko Deity is a Shinto god of Knowledge and Agriculture-He takes the form of a Scarecrow (I thought it appropriate since ‘Kakashi’ means scarecrow. It is also a Headcanon of mine that the Keubiko is the main deity of the Hatake Clan. Also influenced by one of the  Hatake Agricultural Adventures written by ‘the17thMuse’ in which the Hatake are grown in a flower pot. It's so adorable and a must read.
(8) Note that Ta no Kūni (The Land of Rice Paddies/Fields) was stated to be a land overrun with gangs and Yakuza Groups.
(9) A reference to the White Chakra of Konoha’s White Fang. It’s a Headcanon that it’s a clan trait.
(10) Kakashi is said to have a heightened sense of smell, this is a reference to that. It’s a Headcanon that the Hatake Clan have above average senses.
(11) Considering the fact that Kakashi is basically a carbon copy of his father, it’s a Headcanon that the unruly, silver hair and sunken eyes are the assertive Hatake genes. All members of the Hatake Clan therefore have and will have some shade of silver/grey tuffs and those gaunt, droopy orbs. Note that Shirōki had black eyes however, like Sakumo. Kakashi’s grey eyes were a trait inherited from Shisō.
(12) Yet another reference to the Keubiko Myth. Interestingly enough the Harvest Festival takes place on 15 September-Which is Kakashi’s Birthday.
(13) This refers to the tale of Kaguya and her two sons
(14) Kunio: Hatake Clan Head who came up with the Spy Network-Name meaning ‘country man’.
(15) Gen'ya no Ban'nin’ what the Hatake Spy Network was called. The Hatake Network is based on the Oniwaban established by Tokugawa Yoshimune.

STORY: Xuanyuan was the second-born son of Yukinohana no Tian and Yukinohana no Chang’e, chieftain of Yukinohana Tribe. When he was four years old, he witnessed the horror of the Gods Clash and decided he would have never fought his elder brother when the time would have come.
When Xuanyuan was fifteen, he fought the last members of the Obsidian Clan (黒曜石一族, Kokuyouseki Ichizoku) by Chi You’s side: the leader, Kokuyouseki Murasaki (黒曜石紫) and his three children, Kuroihana (黒い鼻), Shiroihana (白い鼻) and Chihana (血花). While the three men were killed, Xuanyuan decided to spare Chihana in order to make her his wife, so that Kokuyouseki Clan’s Kekkei Genkai, Skin of Granite, would be implemented in the Yukinohana Tribe.
Xuanyuan, together with his four siblings, was part of Chang’e’s deal with Senju Tobirama. In fact, he and his siblings were considered Yukinohana Tribe’s best troop and, being them so, they were sent to fight alongside the Konohagakure shinobi in the First Shinobi World War; on the battlefield, their formation got renowed as the Five Siblings of Snowdrop (雪の花の万姉弟, Yukinohana no Gokyoudai).
Xuanyuan was a very quiet shinobi, almost stoic, not so friendly towards villagers but still much more than industrious when it came to helping other ninjas. He greatly respected his older brother and felt a deep affection towards the younger ones. What distinguished him was his chakra and his ability in creating new techniques; the most frightening one of his arsenal was “The Snowdrop Terrible Howl” which developed to an extreme extent rapidity and strength of the user. He was also a decent sensor nin, a flair which turned very useful during ambushes. For all of his talents, he was called “The Sorcerer of Snowdrop”.
Upon Chang’e’s death, the Five Siblings returned to Yukinohana Shokumin to settle the inheritance quarrel. Anyway, Nuwa, Xuanyuan’s younger sister, wasn’t ready to kill her siblings or lose her life; Xuanyuan gave her his blessing to run to Konoha with her soon-to-be husband, Ikeda Akio.
In Yukinohana Shokumin, despite his unwillingness to fight his younger siblings, Xuanyuan allied with Chi You against Xiwangmu and Guan Yu. While Chi You fought Guan Yu, Xiwangmu battled Xuanyuan. When the news spread of Chi You’s success in murdering their youngest brother, Xiwangmu threw herself on Xuanyuan’s blade, praying him to defeat Chi You for their tribe to live on.
Xuanyuan however had no intention to wager war against his elder brother, rather he wanted them to rule their tribe side by side. His hopes were disregarded when Chi You, poisoned by his wife, attacked Xuanyuan. Their battle went on for three days, until Xuanyuan managed to kill his brother.
After this event, Xuanyuan changed his name to Kenshin (健信). According to Yukinohana customs, he had to kill his siblings’ children so that they wouldn’t have claimed the chieftain positions from his own children when the time would have come. Guan Yu and Xiwangmu had no children, Chi You two sons and one daugher; the eldest son of Chi You, Lei Gong, was graced because he was the only one in the tribe (together with Nuwa, by that time away in Konoha) able to take care of Kenshin’s youngest daughter’s illness, Yukinohana Yoshino.
From that moment on, Kenshin trained personally Yoshino to make her strong enough to survive the Gods Clash; a drained, ruined, broken man, Kenshin proved to be merciless with the child, punishing her in the worst ways when she couldn’t complete her training. One day, after Yoshino had collapsed, exhausted, on the ground, Kenshin drew a line with the tip of his blade along the young girl’s spine as an admonishment for her weakness.
Kenshin was killed during the Yukinohana Massacre (雪の花の虐殺, Yukinohana no Gyakusatsu). Before dying, he begged Ainai, his eldest daugher, to send Yoshino off to Konoha, where her aunt Nuwa could have taken care of her.

17. Any OC OTPs?18. Any OC crackships?
Tumblr media
These are such good questions omfg!! As for OC OTP’s, I do ship some of my original characters together! A prime example of this is the relationship between Uchiha Takeo and Uzumaki Kenji! These two are Founders Era OC’s that I have who lived during the time of the Era of Warring States and the founding of the hidden villages.
Uchiha Takeo was a cousin of Uchiha Madara and Uchiha Izuna, he was a polite, graceful and a very charming man, but he is also known to be quite ruthless and extremely loyal to the Uchiha Ichizoku. He had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan after losing his beloved wife who died in his arms from childbirth, and shortly after losing her, his son died in the cradle. He doesn’t play a major role in the timeline, but he is known for making multiple laws of the village during it’s founding as well as being an inventor of many jutsu. He was also an Academy Instructor during his prime, due to his reputation for being kind with children. He died on the frontlines of the First Shinobi War.
Hailing from the matrilineal Uzumaki Ichizoku in Whirlpool Country, Uzumaki Kenji is a jonin who hails from the Uzumaki Clan under Senju Hashirama’s reign during the era of the founding of the hidden villages. He is one of the few Uzumaki moving away from Uzushio and coming to settle in Konoha, intrigued to know about it’s secrets and as a sign of good faith to Uzumaki Mito. Being a male Uzumaki shinobi meant that he would fight equally amongst the Uzumaki kunoichi, including Uzumaki Mito during the Era of Warring States. Eccentric, rather odd, and an excitable figure, Kenji is still quite a formidable shinobi and was assigned to guard Uzumaki Mito quite a few times whilst she was a jinchuriki to Kurama, the Kyuubi. There are rumors about him speculating that he’s proficient in the darker arts of ninjutsu and fuinjutsu, capable of sealing souls away into places where no one could ever find them, and being capable of sealing memories away from his victims. He’s worked at the Academy as a librarian in it’s library, and then, when the First Shinobi War came to pass, he worked with the I&T. He also babysat the sons and daughters of Senju Hashirama and Uzumaki Mito when both parents were away, and replacements were also away. He often entertained them with his fuinjutsu tricks. He died during the climax of the First Shinobi War when he was captured by enemy shinobi from Kumo, and committed suicide before any information could be spilled from his lips.
I’m not quite sure why I ship them, but I like the idea of having an Uchiha and an Uzumaki interact, and you don’t often hear of homosexual relationships in feudal Japan, like.. at all? I just think their interactions and moments would be really awesome to picture, I can also see them working together on projects and on missions.
I have others but that’s a story for another time! LMAO
OC Crack ships, though… hmm. I don’t believe I have any, at the moment! Thank you for asking, though!

Of Konoha & The Hatake Ichizoku
Although a small clan during the Era of Warring States, they were worth their salt. They lived in the northern regions of Fire Country, living off the land as farmers, fishers, miners and herders. Of humble origins, the Hatake developed their farming tools into shinobi weapons, in order to defend themselves from clans and tribes from Lightning Country that would sometimes invade Fire Country, or enemy clans in their own borders. Although not as close to their canine companions as the Inuzuka Ichizoku were, the Hatake were known to be close to them. The Uchiha Ichizoku, under Uchiha Madara and Uchiha Izuna’s reign, conquered the much smaller Hatake Ichizoku and the Patriarch of the Hatake bowed the knee, thus joining under the banners of the Uchiha. Members of the clan are known for their silver hair and their Raiton techniques. After the Founding of Konoha, the Hatake made a name for itself on their farming products and grew rich. However, after the First Great Shinobi War and Second Great Shinobi War came to a close, the Hatake grew much, much smaller.
Hatake clan members are usually named after farm implements, ex. “Kakashi” [案山子] means “scarecrow” and “Sakumo” is possibly derived from “Sakumotsu” [作物] which means “agricultural produce” or “crops”.
Hatake Sakumo, also known as Konoha's White Fang (木ノ葉の白い牙, Konoha no Shiroi Kiba) was known to be a powerful shinobi that surpassed even the Sannin’s strength, but ended his own life. Senju Toka trained him while he was a young child. His son, Hatake Kakashi, also known as Copy Ninja Kakashi (コピー忍者のカカシ, Kopī Ninja no Kakashi), became a war hero during the Third Great Shinobi War where he would obtain his Sharingan from his dying (or as historians once believed) friend, Uchiha Obito, and he would later become the Rokudaime Hokage following the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War. The clan possessed one heirloom: the White Light Chakra Sabre, which produced white chakra when swung. It was destroyed during the Third Great Shinobi War.

🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺!!!!!
During the time when she was Hokage, Toka would travel the countryside, stopping everywhere from big bustling cities to burned-out ruins of ravaged little villages, constantly keeping an eye out for promising young girls who were down on their luck but still had fire in their eyes.
Toka recruited prostitutes and other wayward women, victims of the civil wars of the Warring States period, orphan farm girls, young widows, dirt-poor street urchins, young girls who were either orphaned, lost or abandoned by their parents, and helped give them a new life full of prosperity by moving them into Konoha or smaller villages and cities around it. Some of these people, mostly women were offered positions as the new generation of kunoichi. Some even made it to the ANBU.
Toka did her best to help the children in her village and in orphanages outside it. She would often visit orphanages, giving donations and helping the children there, also singing to them since Toka had a talent for singing calming melodies. She often did this as a child to relax herself from the war that raged around her.
Toka awakens the Mokuton during her fight against Kinkaku and Ginkaku and slays them in battle, avenging Tobirama’s death. Her mastery of the Mokuton allows her to control and manipulate wood, trees, bark, grass, leaves, flowers, seeds, lichen, moss, fungi, vines, spores, pollen, fruits, berries chakra-eating plants and other things.
Senju Toka is the first female Kage in history, and therefore, she would promote the rights of women. During the Waring Era and the Founders Era, many women have been given too many rules to follow or risk losing her husband, family, children, because of certain regulations. In short, women of the past usually did not have much freedom, almost no voice in expressing themselves, very little education except with how to keep the household running or to please a potential suitor, and for some, martial arts, and no rights in deciding for their future in marriage. These customs changed during Toka’s reign. During feudal times, a woman has little, if not any say as to their marriage where it was arranged for them by their father, brothers and other male members of the family, and it was expected that the woman would obey all the rules set by the male members. The woman is only allowed to be wed once even if she outlived her husband’s life. The husband alternatively, can leave his wife if the wife is guilty with the seven sins of being jealous, barren, unfilial, lascivious, stealing, meddling, or subject to a disease. Women with a low familial and social status do not have much chance in place among the male dominance of society.
Senju Toka’s reign changed this and gave women the voices they deserved. Women had the same rights as the men and enjoyed the privilege of education, marriage choice, work and all other privileges excluded to men. They were also given a favorable law as to owning land, having the freedom to conduct business and other things that only their male counterparts could do in long times past.
Women of noble families, during Toka’s reign, were not subject to the marital restrictions or constraints much like the common people. In her law, a couple who wishes to divorce on the foundation of mutual approval and peaceful procedure were not punished. Her dynasty attached great value to education and the women were given much value on this as the men.
There were a lot of privileges women had during this dynasty and they were able to enjoy the freedom of their male counterparts. Marriage became an ideal and divorce was no longer shunned. Even the noble families enjoyed these privileges and granted the same rights that shook the foundations of traditional and feudal cultures as well as ethics. Women had the chance to learn politics, economics, history and military skills as well as participated in hunting, riding, sports, travelling or battles if that was what they chose to do. Female officials always participate in political events and give orders, playing a role that previously belonged to men, (with the occasional appearance of Toka, as she was one of the very few women who held the same respect as a man, and the only woman allowed to join and even voice out her opinion in the village assembly when not advising her cousins, a male-dominated affair during this time.)
Being given such freedom the women of the Sandaime’s reign could express themselves freely as well as carry themselves in society without much propriety. They conducted themselves in business, expressed themselves, even sung loudly, and drank to their heart’s content and other things that they couldn’t do centuries ago. The women could participate in any event they wanted, just like the men.
She’d also pass down a law that no slavery or servitude would exist in her village and in the surrounding areas. A lot of men became really irritated and even angered to see a woman on the throne, and tried to overthrow her. Toka responds by either imprisoning them after a trial when caught or straight out killing them, if they were going to try and seize it from her by assassination.
As Hokage of Fire Country, she was at the centre of a web of trade, wealth and political influence that shocked her nation. Before her reign, Konoha had been ruled by an aristocratic, elite Senju male - her two cousins before her - and so to overthrow this tradition, and survive in a man’s world, Toka had to break all the traditional rules.
She creates an embassy for the people who live in Fire Country but who aren’t exactly a part of Konoha, such as civilians or foreign dignitaries from other lands. The embassy is a massive and gorgeous building, once a hunting estate belonging to the Senju Ichizoku.
The Sandaime Hokage updates the Hokage Tower with the following: A fancy garden; The ANBU always check for ID’s, permission slips for those who’re not a part of the village, mission papers, and animal companions, people who fail to give ID’s are kept under custody of the Hokage until their respective Kage or leader produces the papers necessary to let them go.
Behind the Hokage Rock and Hokage Tower is an abandoned village that’s used by the ANBU. They use it for training purposes and war games. The Hokage Tower has a receptionist lobby. The tower now has different separate wings. There are two basements: one is a complex labyrinth which eventually leads to Konoha’s storage area and vault. The second (located at the very bottom) is a maximum security prison for missing ninja, enemy captive ninja, mass murderers, serial killers, etc. that’s under constant watch by ANBU and KMPF officers. No one has ever escaped. There’s another prison located in Konoha elsewhere, but it’s only for the petty thieves, kidnappers, bullies, etc.
Toka has her own laboratory and torture room in the Hokage Tower which can potentially lead to the I&T.
Toka commissioned a training area hidden within an ancient temple complex that was abandoned by monks after a devastating fire destroyed it. The Fire Daimyo gifted her with the reconstruction of it. when it was finally complete, Toka called it “The Golden Temple of Might”. Although already a splendid sight at any time of the day, it is the most beautiful during sunrise and sunset, when the entire building turns gold, giving it it’s name. Toka called upon the best masters of whichever jutsu style they mastered in that Fire Country had to offer, and they now live and train those whom wish to hone their skills as a shinobi. It’s very luxurious and a lot of people go in there. There are different training halls for each type of fighting style (ninjutsu, genjutsu, fuinjutsu, taijutsu, bukijutsu), and there’s a library and a foyer. There is also a hot springs located deep within temple, and not too far from it, there is a cold bath where people can cool off from intense training, as well as a courtyard.
Created a secret police force. She began a campaign to elevate the position and status of women, having famous scholars and poets write biographies of famous women. Toka states that the ideal ruler was the one who ruled like a mother bear with her cubs: protect and nourish, and should anyone get in her way, she will claw right through them. She did her best to find the best people she could to run the government, and treated those she trusted fairly. She was also fair to peasants or anyone who didn’t have very much by lowering taxes, raising agricultural production and strengthening public works and social services.
Close to the Golden Temple of Might, there’s the Konoha Research Facility, a huge facility of science and wisdom, also doubling as a animal sanctuary, a greenhouse, botanical gardens, and a library - all in one big package.
In honor of Hashirama and Tobirama, and the countless lives that have been taken by wars, Toka demanded that a memorial centre be built in the centre of the village called “The Obelisk of Tears”, as a reminder to the people on who fought for their freedom, as a reminder that they should always be remembered, and to be grateful for what one has.
Toka listens to the Uchiha’s protests after the First War is over, and therefore looks more after her village. She updates the KMPF  by opening it’s ranks not only to the Uchiha, but for other major clans like the Aburame, the Inuzuka, the Akimichi, the Nara, the Yamanaka, the Uzumaki, the Hyuga, etc. and even other civilians, if they’re strong enough.
The duties of the Police Force are limited to: Murder of one civilian by another, or murder of one shinobi by another, civilian and/or shinobi petty theft, arson, non-ninja and ninja spies, vandalism, greater acts of property damage, civilian and/or shinobi drug dealing, patrolling the village, riots, missing persons, civilian and/or shinobi hostage situations, civilian and/or shinobi kidnapping, civilian and/or shinobi assault, bribery, escorts, and the illegal transporting of stolen material. The new recruits of the Konoha Military Police Force will only deal with civilian matters but be able to deal with ninja on the off chance that the ANBU or more experienced officers are unavailable or arrive too late to be of any use to the situation.

👫 (More fleshed out history XD)
Sabaku no Temari is a warrior princess of her country, praised in her ferocity and her will as sharp as the winds. She is not like most women in the shinobi world during this time period. While not as powerful as kunoichi like Uzumaki Mito, Uchiha Naori or Senju Toka, Temari is a very promising individual.
During the Era of Warring States, the two kunoichi clashed in a fierce battle between clans. The Senju Ichizoku aimed to suppress the Fusa Ichizoku when they began raiding Senju-owned villages in Kaze no Kuni (although they weren’t truly enemies), as the Senju Ichizoku owned 90% of the shinobi lands of the current timeline today. Despite the headstrong members of the Fusa and the blood that flowed through the sands, the Senju prevailed victorious. This event comes to be known as “The Conquest of the Crimson Sands”.
Suna historians praise the Sand Siblings for their bravery and their ferocity in battle, even though they were young sandborne shinobi. The eldest, Temari, was recorded to be airborne on the battlefield, as if she was a goddess controlling the winds with a massive fan in her hands. She creates the storm, runs as quickly as the winds, and creates hurricanes. Kankuro, the middle son, was said to have poisoned a hundred Senju soldiers with his puppets and was reported to control the bodies of the walking dead with his strings. The youngest, Gaara, was said to have created sandstorms, build entire pyramids and bury his enemies alive. Together, the three siblings make their mark in history.
It is during this battle that Senju Toka clashes with Sabaku no Temari. Toka is a young adult at the time, and Temari is younger in experience in her adolescence. Toka is impressed with the younger girl’s skill, so much so, that after their battle, Toka refuses to kill the younger kunoichi and spare her life. It’d be a shame that such a fierce kunoichi should die. The world needed stronger willed women like Temari, and thus, Toka praised her when the Senju won the battle.

Mundane Toka headcanons that nobody asked for, because despite her reputation as a fierce kunoichi, Toka actually enjoys several mundane and everyday life things:
-Toka is actually really fond of children. She loves to work with them and listen to what they have to say, even though sometimes, kids can be little brats, because to her, they’re the new generation; a hope that they can surpass the old and not repeat the mistakes that their ancestors had. She also adores babies, and Toka was assigned by Hashirama to protect Mito during her pregnancies, though Toka thought that Mito could defend herself either way. She’s far stronger than what some people might think.
-Toka is an excellent cook, and she also likes baking and trying sweets. When Team Toka accomplished a mission, Toka would reward them with a little feast. In her childhood, she wanted to reduce the stress on the servants and her ladies in waiting by wanting to learn how to cook, because she thought that it was simply unfair that these people with barely any life were to be ordered around like they were animals. Toka also treated the people who served under her with kindness and respect. She even dared to stand up to her uncle when he was about to hit one of the servants for failing to look after her, and she claimed full responsibility for it.
-She’s also a big fan of reading. Ever since she was a toddler, she always liked to read a good story. Though not inherently gifted with intelligence, Toka possesses a mind capable of coming to understand new ideas and such quite easily and rapidly. With a photographic memory, incredibly quick wits, and a vast understanding of objective points of views, she is quite the quick learner.Spending much time in seclusion as a child, studying and researching in solace with her books, the kunoichi has extensive knowledge on human anatomy and human behavior, Toka is a very intelligent woman. She aced every single thing in her years in training with the shinobi of the Senju clan when she was an older girl, as well as listening politely with her court instructors, without too much trouble (even though she was rebellious) and spent most of her time observing people and training. She has a magnificent imagination and is a great thinker ‘outside of the box’. Additionally, having been assigned the official position of an Elite Jonin, ANBU Captain, as well as unofficially claiming the titles of the Hokage’s bodyguard, assistant, adviser, and diplomat, Toka has studied diplomacy, negotiation, intimidation, psychology, human behavioral patterns, political relations, several foreign languages, foreign culture, and military formation and strategy, and leadership skills. Due to her sheer age and experience, the woman is a massive tome of knowledge. With her own personal library dating before the ninja villages were even made, Toka has memorized nearly all of it, and continues to add to her collection. An avid reader and historian as well as a skilled surgeon and avid inventor, the woman is knowledgeable on many subjects Having accumulated over a several decades of knowledge - having lived up to her fifties - about not only the civilian and medical world, but also various subjects on ninja life, from clans to kekkei genkai to kekkei tota, as well as a myriad of religions and jutsu styles. All of this combined forms quite the impressive and intellectual woman that is Toka.
-She also like to sing and dance, as well as collect rocks, fish and hunt. She believes that the world and it’s nature should be a place of sanctuary, and that one must treat it’s wildlife with respect.
-In rare scenarios, when she has the time, Toka adores travelling. It’s always a refreshing change.
-During Hashirama’s reign of peace, Toka has written books and tomes of certain jutsu she has created, a history of the Senju Ichizoku, biographies of accomplished women, kunoichi or not, and has also written a history about Fire Country.
