The owners of many stern voices I hear masquerade overwhelming rapture and enthusiasm as madness x flowering brilliance as pride x grand ambitions as greed, relish lies and swallow smear relentlessly, bow at the feet of those slapping them with politeness. Most of all... they abuse perfection, pervert it.

Something within me stirred once. Laden with anguish, dreaming, chest pressure, anything but regrets. I'd give up on my being for you... Cuddle you. Sense you. Love you.

Buzz: 1, 40, 45

1. What does your character typically keep in their pockets? short answer: you don't wanna know. long answer: shiny rocks, shells, pinecones, colorful lint, other people's stolen jewelry, loose coins, assorted loose teeth claws and small bones, loose spell components (dried squid tentacle??), its arcane focus (a gnarled, knobbly wand), a handful or two of road snacks (age indeterminate), its tarokka deck of souls, a dead spider, a bent fork, [pause for deep breath] an overdue library book stuffed with inkstained notes of various importance, several sticks of incense, two cursed dolls (one of its own visage), a wad of fox fur and tangled grey yarn, a shiny glass orb, several small carved idols, a keyring with only one key of several that it actually knows the door to, a sending stone, a few small daggers, a lockpicking kit, and some less shiny rocks for throwing at things. the whole mess is slightly sticky to the touch. it's very heavy and makes buzz look like its clothes don't fit. it clatters when it walks.

40. Describe a corruption/redemption arc version of your character. honestly i feel like buzz's canon arc is pretty close to a corruption/redemption arc. if it hadn't managed to escape into kathery after making its pact, if it hadn't met a group of kind, honest people to travel with, if it had given in more readily to the terror of its patron, it would have become a very different bird. buzz without the stabilizing force of its friends would have spiraled drastically into paranoia and psychosis. alone and backed into a corner, it would've turned towards its ravenous eldritch patron instead of away from it, and it would've allowed itself to become a tool for the maw's work out of fear and desperation. it would have stared into the abyss until its other eye had burnt away, leaving it blind and hungry and mad, lashing out at anyone or anything that came close. honestly, its life would have been a lot shorter, probably, and its redemption probably would've come as a quiet, private death that let it slip out of the thralls of history anonymously before too much harm could come of its actions. if buzz had gone down that road, but been intercepted by its current friends, its redemption would have been slow and arduous. if, at that point, the maw's grip on it even could be loosened, it would be mostly feral, and a lot of patience and love would've been necessary to remind it of its personhood. the greatest victory it could achieve, the greatest catharsis, would be to reject its patron entirely and face the consequences out of a desire to live and help repair the harm it inadvertently caused. it would confront its patron, and regardless of the outcome, would finally be free. (instead, it met a bunch of really cool adventurers who kept it sane, and eventually got finger-of-death'd by an arcanoloth and had its pact conveniently severed then and there in favor of a much nicer patron.)

45. What would they never forgive themselves for? if buzz had figured out what its patron's motivations were and still continued to serve it up to the destruction of its home world in light of that knowledge, that would be unforgivable to it.
