(Crossposted from DW)
There’s some interesting parallels to be drawn with the way Scratch is an aspect of Alan, just like the Casey of the Dark Place is. One reflects all his darkest fears, the most self-destructive narratives he can tell about himself, and the other encapsulates the skills and virtues he needs to push himself forward, one wearing his face and another one wearing the face of someone he admires.
So you could do quite a bit with Scratch inheriting that obsession with Casey from Alan, but in a furious, bitter, jealous form where Casey is an interloper, a challenger to Scratch's ownership of Alan, coming between him and his Alan, a stranger, an intruder. Because that's what Casey is -- a tool and a shield, the impression of someone Alan trusts -- someone for Alan to cling to, someone who can disrupt Alan’s internal narrative, and he's taking Alan from Scratch.
Casey is just as much a prop to Scratch as he is to Alan, he's just there to be the hero so Alan can be the victim and Scratch the monster. And just like Scratch's love of Alan is a warped mirror image of Alan's hatred of himself, Scratch's jealousy of Casey is a mirror of Alan's suppressed desire to be a better person. To be a hero, to drive the story forward on his own terms, to have agency.
Which is how you get Scratch hissing “You're not going to get what you want” against Casey's lips, shoving him against a wall in an alleyway when Casey has once again showed up as a diversion, letting Alan run away, taking Casey away from Alan the way he took Alan from Scratch. “You think you know. You know shit. You don't really wanna know”, while bleeding venomous jealousy into the air because he is Alan and Alan is him and Alan is his and this outsider thinks he can take Alan from him. Like Alan isn't just using Casey, too, like Casey is something more than a just an empty vessel for Alan's wants when that should be Scratch, that should have been Scratch from the start.
Because Casey doesn't hate Scratch any more than he loves Alan. His role is to have compassion for the victim, to protect him, to move the plot forward for him, just like Scratch's role is to antagonise and delay and stop Alan from progressing. Scratch knows what he's dealing with. But there's more to Casey than just what he got from Alan, he is a reflection of the real Casey through the lens of Alan – and that’s the really fucking offensive part. That Alan can so scarcely accept himself that he’ll bring in this outsider, discarding Scratch, using a stranger’s face instead.
Scratch is Alan, after all. He has Alan's face and he has his voice, and he knows Alan better than Alan knows himself. “You're going to get what's coming to you”, he tells Casey, loop after loop, until he can get him out of the way for good.

I love how much Sarada just basically loves and respects Naruto as a person. Like it was programmed into Sasuke’s genes and he unknowingly passed it on to his child and it got triggered in Sarada just by Naruto being the kind, loving, empathetic person that he is. Sasuke is looking at his kid who’s practically fawning over Naruto and he’s like “same kiddo”. I will carry this fact into every version of them that I write. Just Sarada basically just gushing about how awesome Naruto is after every interaction they have and while Sasuke is a bit emotionally stunted and unsure of how to be a father this is one similarity he has with child that he can absolutely use to bond over with her.
Sasuke should just spend his quality time with his daughter just talking about Naruto over custard taiyaki and she’d be in bliss.

random (very weird - sorry for that) question: think of the motogp grid (2023 or 2024), pls sort the grid in "cat vibes" and "dog vibes" (not related to the pet the rider has; more like personality vibes), which riders have dog vibes and which riders have cat vibes ? like, for me Bez has the ultimative dog vibes, while Marc has cat vibes (and i can't explain why) 😂💕
Hello Mira 🫶🏻 It's not a weird question and really interesting actually! It got me thinking and while I do face some difficulties on some riders, here's my take:
dog vibes:
- raul (I mean look at him! No explanation needed.)
- alex marquez (idk he always gives off huge puppy vibes kinda like a husky?)
- alex rins (actually he reminds me of a cat too but I think he's slightly gives off more of dog vibes)
- enea (sometimes he gives off 'cat sleeping in random sun spots' vibes to me but after I saw his dog hagrid I was like ah, yeah that makes sense he does gives off dog vibes I'm just blind to it lol)
- aleix (he reminds me of a dobermann)
- bez (literally the epitome of dog vibes)
- augusto (if aleix is a dobermann then augusto will be great dane)
- martin (like rins, I am stuck between cat or dog vibes but yeah I think he falls onto the dog vibes category more)
- taka (he gives off black cat vibes sometimes but overall vibes he's more to dog vibes to me)
- zarco (idk much about him but he certainly is not cat vibes)
- miller (same reason as zarco)
cat vibes:
- miguel (he gives off fancy cat vibes like persian cats)
- fabio q (idk he sure has the dog vibes going on but I think he's like a maine coon and I dont even know why)
- franky (black cat personified)
- pecco (come on there's no way he's a dog vibes person)
- maverick (he's unpredictable to me so really cat-like)
- marc (to me he's a ragdoll cat and I don't take any criticism)
- mir (idk he really reminds me of that cat in the ghibli movie kiki's delivery service)
- pol (idk much about pol but from the clips and videos I've seen of him he gives off cat vibes to me)
- brad (another rider that idk much about but he gives off the opposite vibes from darryn which is 100% dog vibes so I assumed he's a cat vibes type of guy)
- diggia (he reminds me of a Scottish fold lol)
- luca (he's a tough one. I spent too long because he looks exactly like his cute poodles but I think personality wise he's more of a cat. A calm one, but can be mischievous at times.)
- pedro (listen. this guy reminds me of a squirrel for some reason so this is extremely tough for me but after a long time thinking, I have come to the conclusion that he seems like a siamese cat too so yeah.)
I don't know if it's accurate or not but it's just my opinion. Thanks a lot Mira 🩷

You ever think about the blorbos of your blorbos? I've decided I like the idea of Cornelius Leyden being a huge fan of The Yellow kid
Cornelius is a cultured man, I think he'd appreciate my man, Mickey Dugan for his cheery attitude and balance of humanisation of lower class people and his ratboy swagger. Idk when and how he'd discover this character, but he'd definitely amass a small collection of yellow kid merch over the years
I don't think Eric would like him so much or understand Cornelius fascination. It doesn't help that there's a bunch of these little dolls and figurines on a shelf right across from Leydens bed that seem to glare directly at Peters at night
(BTW if you're planning to look The yellow kid up for yourself, be warned that there's a lot of pretty racist depictions of people of colour in his comics)
