PAT: Terry, I had the worst dream last night. I dreamt that you and Roxy and the kids were all buried in the backyard. And then when I woke up, Roxy was covered in dirt. I thought you were dead.
TERRY: No, Roxy just got in the plants and--wait. You thought the kids and I were dead, but you stopped to wash Roxy?
PAT: She was really dirty.

Some librarians would prefer to reject the one-shot library instruction session entirely—or, at the very least, make major revisions to the model. In a guest editorial for C&RL, Pagowsky (2021) argues that the one-shot model (defining “one-shot” as a stand-alone lesson) may be “worse than nothing,” as it contributes to burnout and keeps librarians in “cycles of ineffectiveness” in which librarians design sessions without sufficient information, teach, and then attempt to assess without meaningful feedback (p.301). Beyond that, critics of the model assert that one-shots encourage superficial teaching and learning with minimal evidence that the method is effective (Pagowsky, 2021; Brecher Cook, 2022; Bowles-Terry & Donovan, 2016). Though librarians may wish merely for more time or a greater number of sessions, without curricular integration or other instruction options, that time might be wasted (Santamaria & Schomberg, 2022). However, the ability to say ‘no’ to the one-shot—or even to make the one-shot as effective as it can be—typically requires a relationship or partnership with classroom instructors.
And yet, the literature suggests that disciplinary faculty do not always view librarians as their partners in curricular instruction (Alwan et al., 2018; Christiansen et al., 2004, Phelps & Campbell, 2014; Given & Julien, 2005). In fact, not all librarians view themselves as partners or even teachers (Wilson, 1979; Nichols Hess, 2020; Julien & Pecoskie, 2009). Perhaps it is no wonder, then, that many librarians struggle to advocate for themselves and the library in conversations with disciplinary instructors, especially in the early-career stage.

I’ve bolded those names who are either current or former members of the BJU Board of Trustees. UPDATE: I eliminated this indication after receiving all the names who signed.
The men present who voted unanimously were either all of those or some of those. We don’t know. We can presume that the Officers were all likely present: Kevin Schaal, Gordan Dickson, Taigen Joos, Bud Steadman, and Michael Privett.
Who abstained? Bob III didn’t. Mike Harding as a present BJU Board member? Stephen Jones as a very absent member of the Royal family? Mark Minnick as a current employee?
The only name on there that I can guarantee did not abstain was Don Johnson, but he’s an old friend of mine. ;)
What do you think?
UPDATE, May 15, 2023:
The Positives have added an unredacted signatory list. WutBJU will mark all those signatories on the above list in bold italics.

Do you have any Shakespeare production recommendations to watch? Specifically Taming of the Shrew, I haven’t seen it yet and I’m curious
ooh love this ask.
i’ve only seen Taming of the Shrew once, Stratford Festival 2015. Deborah Hay was a very fearsome… shrew..... and it was entirely a period piece except the Christopher Sly bit was modern, so that was a laugh. RSC did a genderswapped 2019 prod too, but i wanted to get an idea of the original for starters.
personally, i’m partial to the 2014 RSC double prod of Much Ado About Nothing and Love’s Labour’s Lost (mostly because it’s got Ed Bennett and Michelle Terry). MAAN 2011 with Tennant and Tate is also fab, as is the Globe’s LLL 2009.
from the RSC: Macbeth 2018 has a cool countdown clock, little girl witches, and a very cool final scene. As You Like It 2019 is a good time. Measure for Measure 2019 also seems good from the snippets i've seen.
if you can get to the Globe for a live show this summer, i think Julius Caesar 2022 with genderswapped Cassius and Brutus will not disappoint. and MAAN 2022 stars Lucy Phelps, which is a win in my book.

Get to Know You Game
Guess I should probably do this after getting four separate tags 😂
❤️Thank you @thecharmedburrowspn-files (original post) @sterling-writes (original post) @karimac (original post) & @santacarlahorrorshow (original post)!! ❤️
(Am I slightly embarrassed by the fact that I haven't read a 'new' book in a while - damn right I am- (🔔Shame🔔) I've been writing self indulgent nonsense/reading too much on AO3; don't judge me!)
Rules: tag 10 people you want to get to know better!
Relationship Status: Married w. Small Children
Favorite Color: Teal & Rose Gold
Favorite Food: Unagi Rolls
Song Stuck in your Head: Girl Who Cried Wolf by Numblife - it came up on a shuffle search. It's not one I'd use with my story (Actually seems more like a Terry Phelps song to me), but if I think about it at all, it sticks around for a few additional hours after.
Last Think You Googled: Average size of a Blue Whale. My son wanted to know how many living rooms long it is.
Time: 1:22pm (but started at 9:34 am, and done in very small portions since then)
Dream Trip: I used to say places that were beautiful to Scuba dive; I want to see a shark. But with how I've been feeling lately, don't know if I have the energy for all that. Is there somewhere I could go that doesn't have constantly assaulting sounds and my muscles won't hurt? A magical fantasy land spa?
Last Book you Read: Re-read Stephen King's Stand - character research, dammit!
Last Book you Enjoyed Reading: the Stand? ...feels like a trick question...
Last Book you Hated Reading: I have to do "Continuing Education" for my job. It's bullshit, and setup to just get your money because they know it's a requirement. Every course is just the same information copy and pasted poorly in a different order. I'd rather beat my head against a brick wall.
:: Bonus ::
Favorite Thing to Cook/Bake: I like doing main course things. Whole turkeys/chickens, steaks... I have a Honey Garlic Salmon that turns out well (but my family hates fish so I don't get to cook that one much...)
Favorite Craft to do in your Free Time: I like doing a fair share of creative things (after a liberal amount of vape hits). Writing has been taking all spare time recently, but I like sketching on my tablet and painting too. And I tend to make a big to-do over Halloween - pumpkin carving, costumes, effects make-up...
Most Niche Dislike: I mean, the big ones -bigotry, discrimination, bullying- should be a given. But if we're looking for stupid odd things I dislike, (which I'm pretty sure is the point), I cannot stand the sound of an empty mechanical pencil scraping against paper. I have no further explaination.
Opinion on the Circus: Never really been to one... I went to fairs cause they're local and less documented animal cruelty (except for the fish you can win in the ping pong ball toss games - those poor fuckers don't stand a chance.) At least there's cotton candy, I guess?
Do You Have a Sense of Direction: I am the navigator on all road trips, but that's because my partner refuses to give up driving, and I can work the apps better. I'm not a fan, and have to Dramamine up. I'm not sure what I'd be like without a GPS tbh...
As for tagging - I am but a small blog that has procrastinated a long time on this. 😬 I'm pretty sure I saw pretty much all of my mutuals already posting theirs. If you haven't and want to - rock on. I tag you, and tag me back - I'd love to hear your answers!!

My Peak TV Journey *Shining Vale*
I watched both seasons of Shining Vale late last year right before it was cancelled and removed from Starz streaming service. I loved it, but thought that if it had been more popular it would have inspired some kind of backlash where it would involve jeering at the fans for clearly being bad people for cheering for such a harmful leading character and not careful depiction of mental illness. It would also likely have staunch defenders, though I am not sure I would have been vocally there. But it's not, so I should say how much I liked it and wish there was more.
So let’s talk about the cast which is headed by Courtney Cox (also a producer), Greg Kinnear respectively as Pat and Terry Phelps, all of whom I’ve lived for a while. I’m a more recent fan of Gus Birney, who was great on Dickenson as Jane, (the young hot widow) as their daughter Gaynor, and Dylan Gage who plays their son, Jake.
This is the story of Phelps family that moves from Brooklyn to Shining Vale, Connecticut in the aftermath of the mother Pat’s affair with a contractor. Terry found the house and purchased it without the any of the rest of the family’s input. This does create suspicions especially in regards to the real estate agent Robyn Court, who is played by Sherilyn Fenn (always a joy to see). Also delightful to see Merrin Dungey as Pat’s editor/friend who balances these rolls in funny ways. And then the alway delightful Judith Light shows up as Pat’s mother, who has her own history with mental illness and creates more interesting mirrors between Pat and Gaynor.
But I’ve been neglecting the series other star, Mira Sorvino! Sorvino plays multiple characters over the seasons starting with Rosemary, who’s a ghost, a demon or figment of Pat’s imagination who “helps” write her long awaited second novel. Her first was an erotic romp with the goal of self definition. The second novel, which is released early in the second season is very different, though still have some filthy bits because that’s Pat’s “brand”.
The house is TARDIS like in that they keep finding new rooms that were otherwise hidden, most notably a tiki bar that becomes an important location for many scenes, as well as a harbinger of the kinds of substance abuses. It also hints at the building’s secret history as an insane asylum in the 19th century. This history was only partially unraveled in the two seasons that were made.
In addition to liking the cast, I like the series creators Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan. Astor created the two season true crime parody sitcom Trial and Error which I still wish had more time. Horgan co-created and started in Catastrophe and Bad Sisters, both of which I’ve written about here. I kind of want to divide the qualities of the series between the two creators, though I know that it is at best misleading. The series has a melange of horror films reference that was like the melange of true crime narratives that Astor worked with in Trial and Error. All the things about the dysfunctional married couple and parental relationships with children I associate with Horgan’s work. (Not to mention her treatment of Pat’s alcohol abuse is similar to that of her character’s on Catastrophe)
The references to other horror films are direct, and what I saw of how they add up to something intriguingly different. First as the title and concept of a parent-writer loosing their mind over their latest writing project and the history of their new home suggests, there are plenty of references to The Shining. At least in the first season. The second season, in which Pat’s menopause is reversed by new neighbor Ruth’s (also played by Mira Sorvino) herbal tea, is more inspired by Rosemary’s Baby. There are also liberal references to The Omen and The Exorcist, among other films. And plenty of opportunity to wonder how “real” what we are seeing, especially in the second season where there is an increase in cartoonish-ness. Over the course of the season multiple people get hit by a bus and explode while the bus doesn’t stop. It gets funnier every time. Going in the opposite direction from funny to startling is a gag involving a mysterious Walkman. Three members of it find it at random times, put it on, each hearing a different song, but all doing the same dance. I will forever wonder where they were going with this.
Tonally the closest comparison I can think is Evil. Sad there will be neither of them soon.

Podcast Renamed: Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast
It's not often that podcasts change names midstream, especially successful podcasts like this one. In this case, you have to applaud Jay Glazer. The name change -- just one letter -- makes a difference.
Jay Glazer, national television personality and Fox NFL
Insider, has announced that he’s rebranding his iHeartRadio podcast,
“Unbreakable.” Effective immediately, “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental Health Podcast” will be renamed “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast” to better reflect the uplifting message of the program.
“When we launched the podcast, it was really important to give words to what many of us are experiencing with our mental health,” said Jay Glazer. “We led that charge, and after more than a year of conversations with leaders and champions in every field, we’re shifting to a focus on sharing personal stories of overcoming adversity, the tools people use to incur MENTAL WEALTH, and paths to success so we can help motivate, uplift and inspire even more people
and help set them up to win.”
This week on “Unbreakable,” Glazer welcomes Pro Football Hall of Famer and San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch for a two-part conversation following the team’s conference championship win against the Detroit Lions. In part one of their wide-ranging conversation, Lynch discusses the hardest part of his job; how his experience in the NFL influences his communication with players; and the importance of “huddling up” and bringing a team together.
Lynch also discussed his time playing for the Patriots and the Broncos; throwing the first ever pitch in Florida Marlins history; how Coach Bill Walsh convinced him to return to football; and living with World Series Champion Édgar Rentería early in his career. Listen the episode
HERE.
“Unbreakable with Jay Glazer” was launched in September 2022, and has featured interviews with some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment and beyond, including Guy Fieri, Sean McVay, Michael Phelps, Lindsey Vonn, Josh Altman, Bret Michaels, Kenneth Cole, Terry Bradshaw, David Spade, Ed Mylett, Lewis Howes, Howie Long, Freddy Prinze Jr., and many others.
The podcast is an extension of Glazer’s widely-acclaimed, best-selling book “Unbreakable.” In each episode, Glazer shares his personal mental health journey with the audience, including the tools
and techniques he’s developed to “live in the gray” – his term for living and thriving with anxiety, depression and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Welcoming mental health experts, athletes, coaches and others, Glazer and his special guests discuss tips for maintaining an unbreakable mindset and overcoming any obstacle to succeed despite living in the gray.
In case you're not a football fan, Jay Glazer is a TV personality and National Football League (NFL) insider for FOX Sports’award-winning NFL pregame studio show, “FOX NFL Sunday.” He was one of the first ever minute-by-minute breaking online news reporters in the NFL.
In 2014, he co-founded the Unbreakable Performance Center, a private training facility frequented by celebrities including Wiz Khalifa, Chris Pratt, and Demi Lovato, as well as numerous NFL, NHL and MMA athletes.
In January 2022, Glazer released a best-selling book entitled, “Unbreakable,” in which he offers honest, in-your-face
advice and insights gleaned from his fight through depression and anxiety, his successful careers in NFL journalism and business, as well as his work with military vets struggling with PTSD. The result is a relentless, unapologetic, and no-nonsense approach to overcoming your self-doubts, fears, and excuses, with the goal of becoming “Unbreakable.”
In 2015, Glazer and former U.S. Army Green Beret Nate Boyer founded the charitable organization MVP (Merging Vets and Players) to assist combat veterans and former professional athletes, who often faced a tough road adjusting to civilian life.
I've listened to the show, and its focus on mental health is commendable, and Glazer is sincere and honest about helping others. It's worth a listen, even if you're not a sports fan.
New episodes are posted on Wednesdays, with frequent check-ins where Glazer updates listeners as he navigates the path to mental wellness.
