One thing about 999 thats really interesting is how Junpei never actually hears any explanation about why the nonary game happened from Akane herself. The only thing he gets from her is a cry for help from her younger self in the incinerator. Everything else that he learns came from other people. Even things like the note in the safe, the person in the gas mask, or the bracelets without a detonator are a mystery because for all he knows, Aoi could’ve been behind the writing and the kidnapping. Junpei doesn’t get to know anything about who Akane has become or what her feelings are now, he’s just left with memories of who she was as a child

I used some sort of quiz making site #before where you weight the question responses with a number (so the 'Best' response is worth a 0 #The worst is worth like 5 points. and all the in between are like 1 - 4 points or something). So then it is actually possible to have a #''perfect score'' category (someone who gets a literal 0 points). and also you could weight some EXTREMELY bad answers #to add like +10 to the score instead of just +5. And someone who got the MAX possible points would be the WORST compatibility. etc. #But uquiz seems to just be like ''which category did you score towards the MOST'. So someone can give some pretty bad answers #that are VERY non compatible. but as long as MOST of their answers landed in a 'compatible' category #then they would still be listed as compatible despite still actually having some dealbreakers in there. Which is also possible with the #'every answer is a number amount' ranking system too. but I feel like that one does allow for a little more customization #and accuracy (like making the dealbreakers add like...+40 to the score or something so that #there's basically NO way that someone could answer with one of those and still get a good score. Or the ability to have a literal #'perfect score' (getting a zero) etc. #BUt anyway lol... inchresting.. inchresting... curious to consider maybe making a uquiz #for the characters in the gameI'm making like.. which npc are you type quiz or something #now that I've made one and seen how it works.. hrmm hrmm.... #(< game will not even be done for like another year but still thinking about nonsense like this lol)

i have a lot of thoughts on minos in relation to pasiphae and the minotaur (both greek mythological and in ultrakill) but i dont really want to make a lot of posts abt it considering. the topic is generally hard to talk about.

#like i dont wanna go around claiming that the myth went 1:1 in ultrakills lore #because for example sisyphus was more based off a book rather than his mythology (thank god) #so minos might be only loosely based on his mythological counter part as well #but like. the fact that with the introduction of the minotaur enemy we KNOW the minotaur thing actually happened? jesus fuck #like we KNOW ultrakill minos thinks that the people of lust are only punished for loving eachother.... #while his real life mythological counterpart got mad at his wife for essentially being raped by proxy and she had to defend herself saying #why would she want that. she was cursed/forced to do that because minos didnt sacrifice that bull to poseidon #like i KNOW why that was never really brought up in ultrakill that would be. a weird topic to bring up in a funny robot shooter #and i dont think you could accurately handle the themes of rape through lore books you find in levels of the game #but theres just. something about minos willfully thinking his wife did that of her own accord and him refusing to think about how lust #carries more than people who had sex a lot in ultrakill. #again the myth MAY be different in ultrakill. maybe he never even accused his wife of that. maybe he was more understanding #but theres a non zero chance he did #he could be willfully ignorant and think his wife willingly cheated on him. he thinks everyone in lust is innocent/only had consensual sex #because the alternatives are too gross/immoral for him to think about #it might be because i sympathize a lot with greek mythology women but finding out that the thing with pasiphae happened in ultrakill #DID happen made me lose respect for minos. #... also towards a lot of the fandom for joking abt it. #rape tw

If there is at least one thing I can credit FE for doing better than Tales in localization, it's not trying to actively go out of their way for an entire game to avoid subtext or direct text between two men that is romantic or implied romantic. Funny when it's so present that the attempt doesn't even work; infuriating that it was attempted to begin with.

So as much as I often have issues with some of FE's localizations, at least they have a leg up on loc Tales for that.

Vesperia Yuri had the unfortunate issue of #the loc not wanting to keep his gay and trying reeeeally hard to avoid it #including altering entire sentences to avoid any woe is them misunderstandings about men having feelings for each other #meanwhile Houses Yuri is free to call men cute and lo and behold everyone loved that for him #they removed and altered a LOT of Vesperia Yuri's personality traits #(including any ability to express real sadness or fear bc woe is them if he's not a cool edgy man) #but they also really changed his tone toward Flynn PLUS some of what they say to each other #and twisted it to make it sound like Yuri was either angry or wasn't actually emotional abt him #forget the way they brought Grant George in for the DE release and made him sound just completely DEAD with zero personality #like. I can tolerate playing Houses dubbed despite my gripes with it (story based stuff) #it didn't feel like they were trying to alter LBGT+ aspects and they even for some rly leaned into it #basically if you haven't played Vesperia Yuri is... really gay coded. the loc pretended not to notice #in fact he's queer + gay coded bc and doesn't fit male gender norms and the gacha games LOVE that with his hair/outfits #Rays mind you is JP only bc it was shut down very quickly in the west and Vesp Yuri's story in Rays is uh #basically it centers around Flynn he loses his shit to protect Flynn and they do the usual like #don't-admit-it's-gay-outright in fictional media by using the ''Yuri's important person'' shtick #but he activates a special power in the middle of utterly raging to get Flynn back from their enemies #funny thing? that game never made it to that arc.
