Cotton Candied Popcorn themed outfit for Eli for the first one lol that wasn't my intention#I mean it's cute I'm not about to fight it lol I'd love for my sonas to have other clothes inspired by each other haha#Eli's eyes are still quite fun to draw as well haha those bright pops of colour - Red Purple or Blue they're all so stark and shaped#Back to their classic feminine outfit good for them uwu#Silly lad#They're also still a scientist first and foremost - it's all chemicals there's gotta be a way to recreate it externally!#Local vampire scientist creates mood stabilizers more at 7 lol#I'm quite pleased with the three-red two-purple one-blue gradient as well hehe - the decay! :D I like it as a visual#Charm tiiime <3 <3 Happy Charm time in Evil Time! Lol#Again more fun with eyes the light bounce in the one where she's holding the melt is so cute and looks so nice on my paper too <3#I had a silly comic idea for her for the next time I get into Red Eyes as well - if I remember lol#Big Love is hearts! It just makes sense#Also I am Really proud of the cleaning job I did on that last one lol - from original to this? Night and day ngl#Guess that goes to show how little cleaning I do on-page lol#For some I do! Others...#Still thinking up outfits - you can probably just make out ''Hero Charm'' in her hair lol trying to think around different themes#Something that could become something else! Add or subtract an element and it changes the ''meaning'' of the outfit#Kinda like her initial caped design that Kaiein rejected hmmm

Hi!! I'm super interested in the outfits you have your kirby ocs in. If it's not too much trouble (and only if you want to) could you go through the different garments they're all wearing when you have time?
I don’t have much time so I’ll do just one character this time but I’ll definitely post more outfit breakdowns for my other Kirby ocs! But yes I am super excited about outfit design and making sure that garments make functional sense so thank you so much for asking!! Feel free to ask again to give me an excuse to draw more of these
Here’s the one character I’ll cover this time! The dark matter hero of yore oc!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thoughts are in the read more!
The main idea that I wanted to have for them was that they’re calm, collected, and kind of uptight due to imposed restrictions rather than it being their own character trait. Essentially my idea for this character is that they’re in a rather precarious place in terms of public perception due to the general belief that dark matter is has a negative moral connotation, but remain a “hero” just because the powers that be deemed that they needed to have four. Why? Who knows, perhaps they wanted to make sure that they had a scapegoat. They’re not a very powerful astral when they’re selected but they are made so through the gradual injection of dark matter into them, something which grows stronger from their sadness and hopelessness over their situation and begins to take over their subconscious until it is able to usurp their identity fully.
So the first layer is a full body covering in black, a turtleneck, black toeless knee socks, and a pair of sweatpants. The sweatpants are there to give the impression of looseness and relaxation, but gathered to show the bit of uptightness along with the tight turtleneck.
The second layer, a cool teal-ish gray tunic, is a nod to who they were before the injection of dark matter turned their hair white. Their original color was a greenish teal, a color that is not quite on the opposite side from red (which is associated strongly with dark matter) but still quite far from it. There’s some padding in the shoulders to give them a more solid shape with the other layers, and for comfort when the armor is put on. The side slits help with mobility. This tunic layer is made of very sturdy material that functions essentially as chain mail. It doesn’t give protection to the heart, the essential organ, but there is also a question of whether they want that to be protected or not, and whether it would even kill them or not to be stabbed through the heart.
The third layer is a cool off-white overcoat, and overwhelms the design with white because white is more associated with virtue than black is, and shows, beyond surface level light=good association, a feeling of emptiness. It is both a way that they try to distance themselves from the idea of “dark” matter and a sign of how they are forced to devoid themself of any personality or strong individuality to maintain good graces with the public.
The belt is mostly just a way for me to give more shape to the silhouette by gathering the waist, but the eye shaped brooch was a kind of last minute decision to add a bit extra detail! The leather strap of the belt wraps around the back and towards the front tapers off to a chain of metal beads, which have a hooked clasp at the front concealed by the eye brooch.
Finally, a long scarf/sash is wrapped off the shoulders and tucked in through the belt. There are two overlapping layers at the front, and the back layer is shorter than the front. This is a very constricting configuration that makes it difficult for them to raise their arms very high without displacing it. To keep it nicely on the shoulder, each side is help up with an eye-shaped pin, securing it to the white overcoat layer a bit under the shoulders. The red teardrop jewels hanging from those are just an extra pop of the red accent color. The underside of the scarf is red, but difficult to see if they keep their arms lowered.
In their more battle-ready outfit, they raise the dropped shoulder scarf up to wrap around the shoulders and neck, and fold the inside down to make it a red collar. This is symbolic of how they depend on the power of dark matter injected into them to fight. The collar is secured with the pins. Then, pauldrons are added, with the harness for them being secured with straps across the chest underneath the scarf and under their arms. I forgot to draw it but they also wear shin guards underneath the pants, over their socks.

made-up mbti types for dd and gg
So the GQ event that dd attended recently (you know, the one with the love hat) was supposedly gonna share his MBTI type with us. I don't think they ever did, probably because dd just didn't do the test thing. I'm not surprised we never got to see his mbti type, but I did have my own guess as to what he'd score, so I figured I'd share here.
(As a note, MBTI is pretty much junk science but it's fun. Just don't take it too seriously. I used to be really into it in a fannish sense and it's the closest I get to woo-stuff. If you don't know what MBTI is, here have fun.)
Cut to the chase: I'd guess dd is ISFP. My reasoning below the cut.
Introvert - The best way I've found to describe the difference is that introverts recharge by being alone. That is, a weekend full of social engagements is something they need some alone-time after. For an extrovert, social events, themselves, recharge them. Being alone is what's exhausting and what they try to avoid.
DD's probably rarely fully alone, given his busy schedule and the life of a celebrity. But introverts have ways to introverting, even among a bunch of people. I think sometimes people conflate "introvert" to mean "shy", but they're not the same. I don't think dd is particularly shy. It's just all about where your energy comes from.
Sensing - This one is about how you process information.
As an illustration, my bff and I were on a road trip once. She's the type who liked to literally pull over a smell the freaking flowers. And she could name every single flower/plant/tree she came across. Her eye for detail and ability to describe things with precision is always boggling to me, because to me, the most I can say is something like "It was sunny and the trees are green". Very vague. All about the overall impression rather than the details.
In MBTI terms, my bff would be Sensing while I'm Intuition (this is the N. Just go with it). Intuition folks are thought of as the big picture, abstract thinkers while Sensing is about the details and about the Facts of the World.
I mentioned before that dd strikes me as a pretty literal thinker, and that type of thinking overlaps with Sensing more than Intuition.
Feeling - People get confused by this one. It's not about whether the person expresses emotions or anything like that. It's about decision-making. When making a choice, does this person weigh the pros and cons? Try to come to a reasonable and sound decision? Or do they go by gut, following their emotions like animes tell them to?
This is hard to assess because we don't know much about how dd goes about making the decisions he makes. We don't know what went into his decision to go into idol training, say, or why he put his hat in the ring for The Untamed.
I'm making a guess that he's more driven by emotion than thinking. This isn't to say he acts blindly without any thought or that he never makes rational decisions, but he weighs his feelings highly. He'll pursue a gay romantic relationship with another celebrity, despite the risks, because he's in love and, you know, he follows his heart. His decision to submit his headshot for The Untamed, especially, strikes me as being Feeling-driven. Given his career at the time, acting in a BL adaptation was off the beaten path and risky. He lost fans because of it.
I think both gg and dd make a feelings-based decision to drop candies for turtles. There's no rational business case to do so. It's simply because they value having a group of fans who recognize them as a couple and they want to keep those fans with them.
Perceiving - This one's about how you plan or organize your time (or don't).
Judgers are the type to have a planner with a set schedule a routine. They have trouble adapting when their schedule gets disrupted. Perceivers are more go with the flow, able to take things as they come. When taking vacays, they would rather not have a packed itinerary bc they want the freedom to go where the moment takes them.
This is also something I don't feel I have a lot of insight on. DD's schedule is heavily managed and heavily packed, and he spends most of his time diligently following along with that schedule. That's part of his job, though. On his own, would he be inclined to keep to a schedule? I kinda don't think so.
I'm just going based on his...um...general chaotic energy. That and his tendency to do his KPI social media posts all at the last minute. Classic Perceiver move.
***
So, ISFP. In truth, each of these traits is a spectrum and people show examples all along the different traits at different times (for instance, dd's decision-making in SDC is typically strategic rather than based on feelings). Most things are based on context. But this feels right to me, overall.
For gg, I haven't watched near as much of him as I have of dd, but a guess would be INFJ.
Feel free to share your own ideas. Or squee about the love hat. Whatever. 🐢🐢🐢

We had a fabulous time visiting Batuu yesterday! Our outfits were comfortable and functional and well suited to what turned out to be a relatively cold and cloudy day in southern California. Disney cast members definitely seemed to interact with us more because we made the effort to dress up, and we got some lovely compliments from other guests, too. We were even gifted some BSO credit coins by random strangers who liked our outfits!
Tumblr media
It was Jack's first visit to Batuu, and while I did get to spend a little bit of time there with my mom in October, this was my first opportunity to really explore the entire area, browse through the shops, and sample all the food and drinks available. It was at least as cool as my first impression of it back in October, and Jack was impressed and delighted by all of it. We spent a good portion of the day just admiring all the details and world-building and excellent sets.
Jack has requested no photos, but I did manage to snag this pic of him blocking the camera like a victim of the paparazzi, lol.
Tumblr media
But look at those pleats! Both Jack and I are so pleased with how they turned out. Several of the Resistance jackets on display in the Rise of the Resistance queue had similar pleat details, and it was fun to look at them up close.
Tumblr media
Over this last weekend and all the way up to late Monday night, I was able to add a few last details to our outfits. I finally adjusted the chain length of my dangley earrings and glued the leather cording wraps to the back of my kyber crystal necklace so that it wouldn't slip out. While I had the glue out, I figured I'd take a stab at making some spat-type things to cover the lacings of my tall Doc Marten boots. I was completely winging it from start to finish, but I'm really happy with how they turned out!
The spats are made from some left over suede I've had in my stash for literally more than 20 years now -- it's been used for an Aragorn vest for Jack, a couple of bags for me, and the inner layers of the big wedge shaped piece on my Oswin belt. And I still have some left over! Maybe I'll make myself a belt pouch to match these spats at some point in the future.
Tumblr media
The narrow end of each spat tucks under the laces closest to the toe of my boot, and theoretically secures to itself with a hook and eye, though I found the hook didn't really hold from that angle, and really wasn't necessary anyway. The straps then velcro around the back of my leg, at the lowest point of the bend of my ankle, and right at the top of the boot, so that the strap sits just above the top edge of the boot in the back, which helps keep it from slipping down.
To make these I really just draped scrap suede on my boot while wearing it, started cutting it to the shape I thought might make sense, then copied that over for a second spat. I measured how much I would need for the straps and how much of an overlap I wanted for the velcro, then cut out all those pieces and glued them together using E6000 -- which works wonderful for adhering velcro to suede and suede to suede, but is a bit more iffy with the metal hooks and eyes (one eye popped off when I was taking off the spat at the end of the night, but since it wasn't staying hooked anyway, I'm not fussed).
Despite being such a quick off-the-cuff project, the spats worked out great, and added that last little bit to my outfit by covering the laces of my boots. They're visible in the third photo, the full-length shot in front of the door (and in the video below), and I think they add an understated bit of texture difference in all the black-on-black there, in addition to obscuring the modern look of the boots a bit.
Besides those detail bits for me, I also made a pair of little pockets for Jack's jacket, to hold 'code cylinders'. It's a tiny detail that really makes the jacket look that much more Star Wars-y, and the cylinders themselves are empty and their tops unscrew, so the space can actually be functional, too. (Currently they're filled with gum!)
Tumblr media
And at Jack's request, I threw together a quick insert for the zipper section on his collar that used to hold the hood before we removed it. The hood was making the collar too puffy, but without it the collar didn't have enough body to stand up on its own.
I took some measurements, then cut a piece of cotton duck canvas (that I had originally bought to cover the zippers on my Moment vest, before I changed gears and made the Batuu vest instead) to the right length and about three times the height of the interior of the hood section. I did a simple zigzag tri-fold on the height, ironed it flat, and marked some guide lines perpendicular to the length. Then it was just a simple process of quilting the three layers together by machine sewing in short vertical rows ~1cm apart.
Tumblr media
The quilting gave the canvas even more stiffness, and after that point it absolutely did not want to fold or droop along the short vertical axis. I slipped it into the former hood pocket (after snipping one corner to fit around the snap I hadn't accounted for), zipped it closed, and gave the whole collar area a quick pressing. It's removable if we ever need to, completely washable, and keeps the collar standing upright without looking too stiff. Jack was very happy with the result.
With our outfits finally done, we headed into the park around mid-morning, with a plan to stay late. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Batuu Bounding at Disneyland (which is notoriously a bit more hit-and-miss than Batuu East, in Florida), but we got through security without incident and through the rest of the park without anyone commenting on our outfits. We saw someone else wearing the same leather-look leggings as me, and a guy wearing similar jacket and pants to Jack (but without the pleating), which made us feel like we didn't look too weird, by general Disneyland standards.
Tumblr media
Once we were in Batuu, though, our bounding definitely got noticed more. A couple of fellow guests complemented our outfits (including the kind strangers who gave us the coins!), and cast members seemed way more interested in interacting with us in-character. I got to bring up a bit about the history I'd made up for Samæni Ray -- which led to one cast member later referring to me and Jack as "my friends from Denon!" All of the prep and character design made it a lot easier to think on my feet in those little improv interactions.
One cast member in particular kept finding us throughout the day, just suddenly appearing out of nowhere it felt like, and kept trying to sell us a speederbike that totally wasn't a broken down lemon.
Tumblr media
Later in the day, he kind of sold us out to Kylo Ren and a pair of stormtroopers (but like, in a fun way, lol) which led to an intense interaction with Kylo Ren right up in both my face and Jack's. Kylo Ren is tall, and the voice and the mask and the body language was all perfect up close. There was a bit of nervous laughter on our part, but we kept our cool and convinced Ren that that since we'd only just arrived on Batuu from Denon, we couldn't possibly know anything about any Resistance activity in Black Spire Outpost.
We were way too in the moment to get any photos, but because we were dressed up and Kylo Ren was so much up in our faces, we did draw a bit of a crowd, so for all I know other people may have taken pictures or videos of the event, lol. My family has a saying about 'look hard' rather than take photos, and it was definitely that for us.
Overall the whole day was wonderful, and we ended up spending nearly 12 hours in Batuu without leaving once. I got to pilot the Falcon multiple times (though I can't really say I've gotten any better at it, lol), and got to try out gunner and engineer, too. We managed to ride Rise of the Resistance both during the day and again after dark, explore every part of Black Spire Outpost in detail, learn to play Sabacc with a cast member, have drinks at Oga's, and eat a bunch of really tasty, really well-presented food.
Tumblr media
All together it was an excellent, excellent birthday. And we're already talking about when we might want to go back again.

Can life really be free of you’re like a bird, confined to a limited space to fly?
Life and death. Not much of a difference if life itself isn’t worth living.
Can a home really be called a home if you have no one to share it with?
That’s thoughts of the past.
Right now…
I’m right where I belong.
~a half burnt page in the embers of the chamber. It was handled with carelessness, perhaps the writer was not in their state of mind when handling this.
Emanation of destruction. Everflame Mansion’s disloyal hound. Flaming assassin of the shadows. All names uncouth to hear of yet very true of the life of the man that stands before you. But now, he simply goes by Verian, The Ten Stonehearts’ Aventurine’s bodyguard.
The blessing from The Ruin Author slowly chips away at both his sanity and body. Day by day, he feels his temper becoming volatile, unstable, and he knows the day of his execution will come. Where he is no longer a man, and a being of fiery insanity, tearing down everything in its path.
There will come the day he lets the ember’s lily die. There will come the day his physical self perishes, blown away like ash into the wind. There will come the day he cherishes his family’s and friends’ embrace for the last time.
There will come the day he will be judged, and all of the hundreds upon thousands he’s killed and shed blood with his hands, both former comrades and targets alike, will come to right his wrongs in the flesh. There will come the day he says goodbye to all he holds dear, should the executioners he choose cannot snuff out his spark.
But there shall never come the day he will ever regret another decision in his life after so many. There shall never come the day when he looks at the man in front of him, shining purple eyes and soft locks, with anything other than loyalty and trust.
And there will always be a day where he knows he’s able to be free. The day where searing flames deep beneath the surface do not burn his skin and boil his flesh away into the loving embrace of the smoke.
Don’t look back. The past may hold nothing but regret and bloodshed, but you must push forward. Even if destruction may be nigh, preserve all that you hold dear.
(Fun fact! I made Verian’s backstory before Aven’s came out, I was actually kinda shook at how similar their backstories were in terms of both of the killing people for survival)
Also I just realised him and trailblazer were so similar in terms of path wise lol (Destrustion and Preservation, what a combo)
I also wanted to put the contrast of both being a emanator of destruction yet also treading the path of preservation because he is in the IPC which follows Qlipoth. Both values are vastly different, you could say they oppose each other, yet he lives with both values.
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN ON MY HANDS AND KNEES THANKING YOU FOR SHARING
Feel free to share any detail you want about Verian I'm invested now 🥹
btw my oc's lore also overlaps with Aven and they were also created before hoyo dropped his lore and?? they're also connected to distraction?? you get me like no one else does istg

Within, stood a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache, and clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of colour about him anywhere. [...] His face was a strong—a very strong—aquiline, with high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils; with lofty domed forehead, and hair growing scantily round the temples but profusely elsewhere. His eyebrows were very massive, almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to curl in its own profusion. The mouth, so far as I could see it under the heavy moustache, was fixed and rather cruel-looking, with peculiarly sharp white teeth; these protruded over the lips, whose remarkable ruddiness showed astonishing vitality in a man of his years. For the rest, his ears were pale, and at the tops extremely pointed; the chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm though thin. The general effect was one of extraordinary pallor.
Dracula, 5 May
I rose and bowed, and he came towards me; a man of medium weight, strongly built, with his shoulders set back over a broad, deep chest and a neck well balanced on the trunk as the head is on the neck. The poise of the head strikes one at once as indicative of thought and power; the head is noble, well-sized, broad, and large behind the ears. The face, clean-shaven, shows a hard, square chin, a large, resolute, mobile mouth, a good-sized nose, rather straight, but with quick, sensitive nostrils, that seem to broaden as the big, bushy brows come down and the mouth tightens. The forehead is broad and fine, rising at first almost straight and then sloping back above two bumps or ridges wide apart; such a forehead that the reddish hair cannot possibly tumble over it, but falls naturally back and to the sides. Big, dark blue eyes are set widely apart, and are quick and tender or stern with the man's moods.
van Helsing, 25 September
Some similarities and differences in the way van Helsing and Dracula are first described. Especially upon Jonathan meeting him today and remarking cheerfully on his appearance, I don't think they actually look that similar really. And to an extent the wording may refer to specific features of physiognomy that I happily do not know. But still, there's enough here to take note of.
They're both clean shaven (except for Dracula's moustache) and their hair doesn't grow on their temples. They have high foreheads. They both have big noses, though of different shapes (one broad and one thin) and expressive nostrils. They both have a strong chin. They both have eyes that change with their moods (though Jonathan doesn't note that on first meeting him, he later emphasizes the Count's blazing eyes when angry).
And there are a couple strong differences too of course. Dracula is characterized as pale and lacking color except for his mouth, while van Helsing has red hair and blue eyes. They both seem to have large or at least noticeable mouths, but van Helsing's is "resolute" compared to Dracula's looking "cruel". Dracula is tall, thin, old... while van Helsing is medium weight, strongly built. Even as he talks up his age Mina doesn't comment on him looking old or anything at all. He seems much more animated and full of life.
I'm certain that both descriptions are drawing heavily on physiognomy to try and reveal things about their respective characters. And again, maybe it's just the case that similar terms are used for a lot of that stuff. But there still seems to be a decent amount of general overlap, and I don't think any other characters really ever get this sort of intentionally detailed description, so I do feel you are to an extent meant to compare the two. To recognize the similar features but the way they come together into something completely different in the end... maybe reflecting how they share other traits but with different overall intentions.

At Sunday brunch, Nile finds herself sitting next to Andy, who is grumpily drinking coffee—something Nile knows her extreme pickiness about—with a face like she's just bitten into a pinched lemon. Fifteen minutes later, Lykon says, sweetly enough that even she can see the trap: "Andy, do you want any of the sugar?"
Andy glares at him, says no, and marches off to get some more coffee. Hopefully with sugar in it.
Lykon gives it five seconds before he gets up and follows her. Next to him, Joe takes a huge sip of his coffee like it's keeping him alive. Nile kicks his foot under the table.
"What's going on with Lykon and Andy?" she asks. Joe gives her his best kicked puppy look, but it's almost noon, definitely closer to lunch time than brunch time, and she is not feeling very pitying. Especially because it's his boyfriend's fault they're still waiting to eat.
"I don't know," he says after a bit. "They were fine last week."
They were fine last week. Nile hums, considering that. At the counter, Lykon is needling Andy about something while she stands, arms crossed, tapping her foot. "Did they sleep together again? They have got to stop doing that."
Joe pauses, and Nile's eyebrows slowly rise. He looks over his shoulder, then shakes his head, though he's looking unsure. "I don't think so? Lykon usually tells me."
Nile does not envy him that. Lykon doesn't have a lot of poetic bones in his body, but he likes to think enthusiasm and way, way, way too detailed description makes up for it. It does not. "What else, then?" she asks, then shuts up as they turn around and return to their table.
Andy sits down, looking grumpy. "Where's Nicky?" she asks Joe.
Joe says, "I'm not Nicky's keeper."
Lykon says, "Yes, you are," the exact moment Andy does, and they both turn to glare at each other. Nile exchanges a long, concerned look with Joe. She's never really thought Andy and Lykon's bad habit of occasionally slipping back into bed with each other is a problem--but they also haven't gone there for at least six months. It could be a number of other things, but if Lykon hasn't said anything to Joe...
She texts Booker, has andy said anythng about being mad at lykon? then glares at it for a few seconds, wondering what the odds are on Booker happening to check his phone in the middle of museum day, and also actually answering.
The door opens, and Nicky enters. "Finally," Andy says. "Is everyone decided? We'll order. Nicky, come with me."
Nile requests her eggs to Andy's retreating back. Joe stares at them go, looking bewildered, then turns to Lykon. "Lykon?" he says.
Lykon is staring at Andy's back with an uncharacteristic intensity. Something is definitely up. "Yeah?" he says, a minute too late.
"How was your week?" Joe asks. She raises her eyebrows, but he holds up a finger for patience.
"Uh, it was great. Hey, what do you think is taking them so long?"
It's been fifteen seconds. Nile watches Lykon all but jump over the back of the chair to join Nicky and Andy, making Andy scowl again. "I see your point," he says. "Maybe they fought about something?"
"They never fight."
Joe shrugs. "Everyone fights sometimes, even me and—Nicky!"
Nicky has returned, looking like the cat that got the cream. He gives Joe a peck before he takes his seat. "Spill," Nile says. "What do you know?"
Nicky does his little mouth-shrug. "What do I know about what? I know many things, Nile."
Joe narrows his eyes. "How do you know something I don't?"
Nicky grins. "Because unlike yourself, I have been in the department all week."
Nile frowns. "What, they fought about something at work?" Andy and Lykon's specialisation is in completely different areas, and while there is overlap, they are usually in agreement. Unless it's something like supervision duty or admin, she can't imagine what they would've had to fight over.
"Something like that," Nicky says mysteriously.
Joe narrows his eyes. "What is it?"
Nicky shrugs. "See for yourself," he says, gesturing outside the window.
Nile looks over her shoulder just as the new adjunct, Quynh, comes through the window. Her face is a little red from cold, and she searches for Nicky before brightening visibly. "Quynh," Nicky says, standing with a smile. "Joe, Nile—you have met, but I thought to invite her as she is new to the area. I am glad you came."
"No, thank you," she says, unwrapping her scarf and draping it on the seat next to Nile with a smile. "Should I go place my order?"
"Andy and Lykon are just at the counter, if you want to join them."
Nike watches as Andy and Lykon, who have been frozen stiff, both hurry to smile at Quynh and welcome them to join her. Lykon grabs a menu off the counter. Andy looks like she might be turning red around the ears, and not from the weather.
Her phone buzzes. It's Booker, saying how badly do you want to know?
Nile smirks.

Two On Ice Chapter 1: Reunion Spot
Tumblr media
Wow. I'll say it one more time, wow. Of all the new series that have appeared in WSJ this year, I don't think it's an understatement to say that this is arguably the most promising first chapter bar none. Hell, even going into 2022 and earlier it would remain a standout. So lots to talk about. Lots and lots to talk about. But first, you should go read the chapter
So, let's start with the concept. Off the bat, incredibly great idea. Placing the kid that only ever had eyes for the top alongside the girl that was always forced to maintain her position at the top is such a great concept. It mixes the ideas of always looking forward vs always looking over your shoulder. The passion and desire to continue, vs the strain and requirements of holding your position. And that narrative begins with this loaded statement from our lead character Hayuma.
Tumblr media
As a concept for a character driven story, it's a flawless chapter one approach, and is right at home with all the other accoutrements.
Take for example, the character design. It's sharp and detailed, almost blocky even. But all the characters are totally unique, even the way they get drawn is. They're all great with expressiveness, and off the bat the mangaka isn't afraid to play around with the character designs and introduce some chibi style to make the comedy pop.
Tumblr media
But that's nothing compared to the most important piece in a manga like this: movement. And man, does it ever feel like it moves. The mangaka uses two "simple" tricks, but it makes all the difference in the world.
The first trick is to bend the rules of paneling. When you really want to convey motion, stretch the limits. Draw outside the lines to really sell the perspective on the scene. It works wonders when employed effectively like it is here. There's three instances of it as well. The duo breaking the panel edge with their legs, then the man's hand overlapping, and then the woman stretching 3 panels. All of it expresses just how fluid that movement is, that it can't be contained by lines or limits.
Tumblr media
And number two, collages. Perhaps not the best choice in words, but allow me to explain. What do you feel from the above image? Obviously you grasp the intent behind the movement, but you don't actually see the woman get thrown up in the air. But still, you feel it. Why? Because of what the mangaka chooses to show you. A simple hand reaching upwards is enough to convey that motion, and readers perfectly grasp that.
Similarly, look at this example. We have Hayuma imposed atop the skating rink, as well as a single image of one of his legs. But yet, you perfectly grasp the intent and flow. He uses that leg to stop himself and turn into his triple axel, and you feel that intent so clearly.
Tumblr media
I guess there's really three tricks, but I think this last one is something that mangaka should be aware of regardless, and that's blurring and linework. In both images, there's a lot of extra lines and hatching that speaks to the movement of the characters. Not just the lines on the ground/ice or even around them, but how the shading/hatching of the characters appear. The linework on the characters themselves bends towards the motion that they are doing. In this chapter it's largely spinning, so you'll see the hatching align with the rotation of the characters to help sell that movement.
I think the only thing I could speak on that could use improvement is just the choices in paneling. The dynamic feel is incredible, but some of the more "still" panels where characters are focused on talking can feel a little.... typical? Not at all in a bad way, but just sorta something that feels like what you'd expect.
Tumblr media
It's something I really hope the mangaka will quickly grasp and improve upon, because some of their ideas have really incredible potential, like this panel. It's really good in its current state with how it uses distance and space, but it could be even better if it used the window frame as the frame for the panel itself. It's just simple stuff like that, where they have really great ideas through this first chapter, but just miss on going the extra mile to do something really incredible.
Tumblr media
Anyways, easily the best first chapter in WSJ this year and, personally speaking, the best opening chapter in WSJ since Sakamoto Days. I'm really hoping that the follow up chapter can provide the same energy and excitement as this one, so I'm really looking forward to it!

Obsessed with the notion the Phantomhives are descended from/are part Si... it would explain almost everything. Our!Ciel's cat-eyes that were never addressed or explained. Why people are so drawn, why they're otherworldly and beautiful, why the Royal Family assigned them the position of "watchdog" yet, also saw them as a threat and wanted to get rid of them, how they can see supernatural beings without trying to...it might even explain Vincents youthful face... it also adds weight if Undertaker was one of them or connected somehow, there's so many more layers if that is the case... even small things, like having an affinity for sweets and having powerful emotions like Our!Ciel's revenge, fits... I've read so much fae folklore over the years... they love dairy, and they love sugar... they love being mischievous. They adore playing games. They are neither good nor evil... You know what they hate? Fire. And, their home being disrespected.
Thank you so much, putting this under a cut because it's long and I actually feel like talking about Tanaka??? If only because. I've been thinking a lot about him and what his part might have been in this... a lot of it is speculation... I'm taking this rant into a very different direction. There's a reason why a lot of anime/games have celtic influences. (tw: Suicide mention)
I'm trying to be very careful with my wording here because I know these come from two entirely different cultures, and they're in no way the same at all in most regards especially manners of worship and I can't get into all of the detail it deserves... this is more-so coming from others who have also drawn comparisons (please don't think I'm the only one for the love of god, this is what practitioners of Shinto and celtic historians have said, and it's reflected in a LOT of anime/japanese media). But Shinto, and some Celtic beliefs and mythos, have a lot of overlap... (I also think Japan and Ireland also have a lot of things in common, period, that people don't consider but that's for another post) in that each of them believe that "Spirits" (very loose term here!) can inhabit, or live in, forces of nature, animals, rivers, trees, ect. and that they can be good, or evil, or neither. And both cultures believed strongly in the role of spirits, and... death? The reason why I bring that up, because I think that if Tanaka knows what they are (assuming the Phantomhives really are what I think they are 👀), he's altogether not that shocked about it, and has deep respect and reverence for the family. To be honest I think he knows and has known for a while, and I am very stuck on it because I think it's very interesting? Tanaka is underrated in general. Samurai, historically... weren't supposed to live after their "Master" died. Traditionally, they're supposed to kill themselves. Even when these rigid rules started to die out and they were finally allowed to trade Masters (as long as they had permission from both parties), it was an extremely shameful thing to lose a Master as a Samurai, if that happened... and they were forbidden to learn any other trade, or take another job until they were disbanded completely in the 1870s. Ronin (ex samurai) were treated like crap!!! Tanaka would have been alive, when these rules/laws/practices were still in place. I think he's interesting because Tanaka found a realllllllly awesome loophole when he became a servant to a British/Western family. Because, he's always going to have another Master or Mistress to serve, as long as Phantomhives kept having children. Even if one Master died, another one would immediately take his place and still need him. The rules applied differently in England because in Japan servants weren't necessarily inherited the same way... this way, he'd always be safe, in that sense. Even after those rules no longer applied at all and Samurai disbanded completely... I'm sure he ADORES the Phantomhive family (if that wasn't already obvious) and while we really don't know his backstory... we don't know if he's a Ronin, or if he went to work for the Phantomhives willingly/legally by Japanese standard... but I'd imagine either way? He is extremely loyal to them and he probably wouldn't leave his home country, for just any old family. I think he knows what they are...he's been with them through too many generations not to. Even Sebastian probably doesn't frighten him all that much... he's seen some shit, I am sure and I am also sure he's fine with it. In all likelyhood he probably has a deep reverence for them to be honest if he's religious, or spiritual at all... It just...makes me deeply sad that he feels like he was responsible for what happened the night of the twin's birthday because (lol) obviously there was a reason why he felt he couldn't use his sword. Someone was protecting the perpetrators, someone he felt like he couldn't raise his sword to, attack, or kill. :( ... There's only so many people it can be, I'm afraid. If Real Ciel was there that day and had some small part to play in what happened even if he wasn't the mastermind, Tanaka can't be expected to raise his sword against his own Master, can he?

I think what Taylor has is that she has the appeal of both a pop star and an indie artist
I’ve seen this notion make the rounds and I think I see the vision but I’m not sure I totally agree. Maybe I do agree but I just word it differently? idk if i'd call her indie, or the appeal being an "indie" appeal. indie is a combination of both the musical style that is provocative, messy, and challenging the structure of songwriting and sometimes even singing. and how the small scale operational side creates the musical style out of necessity, but that's just me being nitpicky i think. still, that feedback loop and ecosystem is kind of essential to something being indie or even indie-esque and the genre of music it produces. i think what she is instead is singer/songwriter, which a lot of people conflate with indie. sometimes they overlap, but most of the time they're just lumped together incorrectly, especially these days. the main difference is i think indie artists make music that is more experimental in sound and thereby prickly at times. they're not as concerned with resonance as they are with creating unique sounding music that challenges what sounds "nice" and "enjoyable", which sounds pretentious as fuck but it's true and also important to art in general imo. it tends to lean more towards the punk rock sensibility of an all encompassing sound that makes you feel instead of any particular lyrics, which are there to prop up the sound for the most part and can often be nonsensical or stream of consciousness. whereas a singer/songwriter leans more towards palatable, dare i say pretty music that draws you in because the main focus is their lyrics. they're telling you something. they seek emotional resonance with an audience as their main priority, leaning more towards a pop sensibility in that way. Taylor is definitely the latter in my eyes (and ears), and so indie feels like not a great fit for her ultimately.
but i do see what you mean so i'm more partial to saying she has a "small business" appeal. she's selling you pop that is pretty broad and familiar but you feel like because she offers you the illusion of having a direct line to a human person, taylor swift herself. that you're getting an intimate and specific brand of that broad and familiar thing in return. executed excellently of course, but still broad and vague. so that killer combo; she makes products that are broad enough that they appeal to everyone and draw large crowds, creating a line out the door, but also people are willing to wait for what is essentially a vague/broad thing because she makes you think that what she offers is hand crafted just for you and only she can give it to you. And i think her songs are yes about her life..... technically. but look at the lyrical content and you'll find they're very very vague for the most part (with a few exceptions). rarely does she name places, people, or even specific event details, and when she does they're very commonplace. wine, perfume, windows, movies, cars, bars, bedrooms, doorsteps, etc. but while the subjects and settings are vague, it's the emotions she is able to verbalize that are hyper-specific. how it feels to wants someone you shouldn't want, the guilt of feeling alone in a crowded room of people who love you, the self hatred of missing someone who betrayed you, the paranoia that leads to the longing to run away with someone where nobody can judge you, etc. because hyper specific details and situations are not relatable, but nearly all human emotions are. its a very masterful illusion of specificity where you line up a bunch of specific motifs or visuals to make the story feel small and intimate, but the things you choose are actually commonplace. and this is on purpose!! the emotions are pinpoint specific because that's what makes you feel seen and draws you in, as everyone feels the same things but we all think we're the only ones who feel them, and then the setting is ultimately vague enough so you can project yourself into and onto it. she could be talking about your street or your bedroom or your high school so you feel like you could be right there next to her. that's secret to the success of broad pop!
With how small her operation is, given that it's all in house and mainly her family and a few key players compared to the village it takes to manage other popstars, she technically and comparably is indie in that way! the thing is most of the time, a genuinely small/indie artist operates like this out of the inability to pay anyone to help, but she does it by choice. she has a MOUNTAIN of cash she sits on because she may operate with a small team but also outputs broad pop that, due to her small team, then has MASSIVE margins that go right into her pocket. thats the only real genuine indie thing about her, but either way, that's not what you're tapping into when you feel that small artist appeal. it feels like she's a small business because she makes it feel like she's on the other side of the counter, offering her songs to you out of the palm of her hand. that illusion of intimacy and human connection that she's able to facilitate despite being the most untouchable person in the world. indie music isn't about direct human connection like that, not on the whole. again, that's conflating indie with singer/songwriter which is about that human connection. and she is both yes! a pop star that injects singer/songwriter human outreach and connection into that pop. a gourmet creme patissiere whipped up by an extraordinarily deft and patient hand, piped into a simple and common glazed donut. and i'll take two dozen please. that's the unique magic of her.
in the end i think we agree conceptually, i'm just very prickly when it comes to the word indie because i don't feel like that's quite right.

Cloud Nine Contrails - context post
Tumblr media
So basically. Being mentally well as I am I have TWO JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanparts thought up, and the first one is "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Cloud Nine Contrails". The part doesn't have its own JoJo but keeping the name instead of changing it was favoured in a poll I did.
Here's what you need to know for the setting!
Cloud Nine Contrails takes place primarily in (a fictionalised version of) the US city of Detroit, Michigan, and the surrounding Metro Detroit area. It starts in 2020, and might supposedly take place in an alternate version of the original timeline where things didn't go to shit nearly as badly as they did in canon Stone Ocean (not gonna elaborate for spoilers' sake, if you know you know).
The main reason for referring to it as a "fictionalised version of" the city of Detroit is mostly the presence of a decently-sized patch of forested area which does not exist in real-life Detroit (where the closest forested area is approximately an hour away according to my previous research). This forested area is more towards the middle between east and west Detroit, but isn't in the centre of the city. It's located behind a children's playground. 1
Also, in this timeline, COVID-19 did not become a pandemic, likely handled a lot more quickly and responsibly than it was IRL, so COVID doesn't really come into play even though the part takes place in 2020.
Quick Summary
Detroit, the largest city in Michigan with a notoriously high crime rate; 2 while the average tourist might be fine, average crime isn't the only thing locals have to worry about—the city is also home to two rival gangs, the Urban Deathgrinds and the Metro Poppers. It goes unspoken, but everyone knows the gangs hold influence over the area; and they're not just ordinary gangs—both are Stand-based, making Detroit a hotbed for not just crime, but Stand activity.
Cloud Nine Contrails focuses on a very cutesy 17-year-old highschooler named Limbo Adkins, whose anxiety and good nature aren't exactly suitable traits for a gangster, however useful her Stand.
Other Important Details
Cloud Nine Contrails was created as an independent thing but became heavily influenced by events that happened in RP, which led to the presence of an interesting area loosely termed as a 'dimensional hub', the setting of which was mainly and initially an abandoned city with one standing building known as the hotel, referred to as simply "the Skylands Hotel", where most interactions occurred. Dimensional hubs are essentially a place with a weak metaphysical barrier, allowing for any individuals from different locations, worlds, time periods and universes to all arrive there and interact with each other... intentionally, or by being scooped up by the universe (the RPer's whim) and dumped through the barrier.
In this dimensional hub, one major access point is 2002 Naples, meaning that Cloud Nine Contrails features significant overlap with characters from Vento Aureo, that is specifically to say Guido Mista, Giorno Giovanna and Pannacotta Fugo.
Certain characters are revived due to 'shenanigans' (some explained, some not) and any canon character + OC relationships (platonic or romantic) are a result of RP progression. According to the events of RP and general consensus from my friends who RP the Vento Aureo characters, Purple Haze Feedback is canon.
There are no other significant involved overlaps with other JoJo parts, only having a few occasional 'guest appearances' from characters from Diamond is Unbreakable and Stone Ocean; notably Ermès and Emporio from Stone Ocean as recurring non-vital appearances, as well as Josuke Higashikata and a teenaged Shizuka Joestar from Diamond is Unbreakable as similar non-vital appearances. These overlaps are connected to the events of the game Eyes of Heaven, supposedly.
And unless I'm forgetting something by final note; my friends made characters to go in my fanpart so I'll mark any of their characters appropriately as not my design (all art is still mine unless otherwise stated).
I did forget something! A content warning for the thing.
I'm not gonna list everything but like... just know this is a general warning for some mature/heavy themes at some parts of the story; nothing terribly graphic (hopefully), I doubt any of the violence will be beyond what's canon-typical, but like- if you're very sensitive I get it, I'd recommend you proceed with caution or just avoid this,
but for some main things I figure I should warn about: mentions or implications of general abuse (multiple kinds), S/A, possibly self-harm; also some direct portrayal of an ED (but there's also recovery/catharsis), some pretty harsh toxicity in regards to the aforementioned, overall general discrimination (racism, homophobia, etc.). I've got a pretty diverse cast who've faced some pretty harsh parts of society.
I'd say a good chunk of my characters here are minorities in some way or another, whether they're queer, trans, disabled, POC, non-Christian, or neurodivergent.
I write characters from a lot of different backgrounds with a lot of different life experiences; as a white, cis-passing, able-bodied American, it's safe to say I don't share a lot of those experiences and I suppose I don't know what it's like, but I try my hardest to portray things as respectfully as possible (especially with things that are frequently demonised, like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) and to create normal, compelling characters who have these experiences without it coming across forced or offensive. I've been told I've done well portraying characters like this, so hopefully I can keep up that trend... I also still need to get better at drawing hijab. (Characters with ADHD is just me projecting)
and if you have a problem with, like, half of my roster being queer then the best time to leave is now . if i see homophobes or racists here im gonna
1 this location may not be real but by the time I realised there aren't forests in Detroit the forest and playground had already become a major setting. In my defense, I didn't know that not every place in every northern US State had a fuckton of forests. I'm from PA. There's forests fuckin' everywhere here, I thought that was just normal and never bothered to check. My bad.
2 "Homicides in Detroit rose 5% in 2019 over the previous year, when there were 259 killings in the city, according to the police figures." - George Hunter from The Detroit News

Toya from PuroSeka is NOT identical to Todoroki
I don't think the MHA and PuroSeka fandom share much or are close, but everyone seems to have agreed that Toya looks identical to Shoto, which I completely understand. However, I've been led to realize this is actually incorrect, and I have proof!
First and foremost, their hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Todoroki's bangs are perfectly split in the middle and practically perfectly symmetrical. On the other hand, Toya's bangs are stylized in a way where the light blue side covers more than the dark blue side, his middle bang is slightly swept to the side and his hair is stightly longer, with the sides going down to his cheeks, whereas Shoto's only go half-way his ears.
You can also argue that Toya has thinner, less voluminous. There reallly isn't any official art of Toya with his hair more "messy" with part sticking out to the sides. Whenever he has loose strands on his hair, they're always long, thin and facing down. But for Shoto, it's common for him to have some loose hair facing different directions, even on the top of his head, even though his hair's more "tamed". That makes Shoto's hair look more fluffly and voluminous. However, some if this thingsmay be due to artstyle
Lastly, the color of their hair would look "inverted" on manga format. Due to manga being mostly in gray scale, characters' hair is normally left white, with stronger colors being black. Since Toya has darker hair on the left side and lighter on the right, his hair would be black/white on manga, but since Shoto's white on the left and red on the right, it'd be white/black.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, their eyes. They are also different. So, Shoto's eyes are a little inconsistent in shape, and have changed a lot through the series. However, his lower eyelids are often draw curved, making his eyes more almond-shaped. Unlike Toya, who's lower eyelids are flat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Shoto's eyes vary from time to time, but having round lowerlids isn't something ever present on Toya, as far as I've seen, at least. So Shoto's eyes are rounder or sharper, while Touya's are more square.
Lastly there are other minor details, such as Toya having a little mole below his right eye, while Shoto has a scar. Toya always having highlights on the eyes, when Shoto's only drawn with highlight on specific moments of the series (Or when the official artists didn't pick up on that, apparently. I've seen some official art like that) and Shoto having heterochromia, unlike Toya.
This is just going over physical differences, Toya and Shoto actually act quite differently from one another. And even though their backstories do overlap, there are mayor differences.
If right now you're thinking "How did you noticed and why did you payed attention to these things??". Then I'm glad, because that's kind of the point here (Though I doubt you're actually surprised, this is Tumblr, after all). I of course have no actual issue with the comparation between the two, nor I'm trying to make an actual, serious point here. I mean, I'd like it if people realized they're different, if they ever thought they were the same, they're both my favorite characters from their respectives franchises, so I'd be happy if people knew they're actually unique from one another, but is nothing to serious.

Hello!! It is me 💿 anon coming to ask you about the playlists of your newest fic! I saw you have ones for each character and was wondering if you have specific lyrics/songs that helped you develop each character? All the playlists that are out so far and fab btw!
WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD
-
💿 anon, my beloved!
first off, omg thank you!! second, yes, of course there's lots of character inspo that revolves around music! i find a lot of the time my fics come from song lyrics and sort of sprout from there —prey included. the whole fic was based around these lyrics from the neighbourhood’s song of the same name:
something is off, i can't explain you know what i mean, don't you? something i saw, or something i did that made me like this could you help me?
obviously i can’t go too into detail because that’ll spoil the fic but the lyrics definitely encompass avis and loki’s relationship as a whole. in the story they both feel sort of cast aside by the people they’re meant to be closest to and because of that, find a lot of comfort in one another during moments of solitude.
-
for loki, i have a whole playlist of songs that remind me of him but for prey specifically one song comes to mind that i definitely lean towards when forming his psyche/how others perceive him. that song being they don’t want by electric wire hustle.
pretty much the whole song is very prey-esque but specifically the first verse i think really encapsulates the overall first impression loki gets from most of the team:
all around this town people stop and stare i can feel their eyes upon me see it in the face, there's nobody there i've felt that look before they don't want me here
-
moving onto avis who, despite some subtle differences is still very similar to loki. they’re both lonely and stubborn and frankly, quite broken but are also in this constant state of trying to showcase themselves as essentially perfect individuals. they force others to perceive themselves as capable of dealing with anything when really they're just these fragile little guys who want to be loved.
that being said, a lot of loki songs definitely overlap but honestly i find avis to be a bit more vengeful? basically, in the story she has this level of externalized rage that loki tends to hide away rather than release, making her overall character a bit more brash as you might be able to hear in the playlist.
overall, i'd say there are two main songs that really brought avis's character to life. the first being destruction by joywave which i think is a good example of her relationship with SHIELD and how she consistently feels threatened by it's presence.
oh my god, there's nobody who can set me right i've been sent to torch the palace down in broad daylight i wanna know who you told 'til they're all laying on the floor frozen to the core i wanna know who you told till it's nobody anymore
moving on to the second one: stuck on the puzzle by alex turner is definitely a song that connects to both loki and [redacted]. not really a spoiler but both parties are very interested in avis for different reasons. and although the lyrics are very romantic in nature i kind of feel like they apply to both relationships in their own unique ways? if that makes sense?
nobody i asked knew how he came to be the one to whom you surrendered
any man who wasn't led away into the other room stood pretending
-
which finally brings me to [redacted] who i've gotten a lot of inquiries about. for obvious reasons i can't tell you a whole lot about them but just know they're essentially a deity that a particular group within the fic worship.
that being said, a lot of the songs that inspired their character are mostly just vibes. not a lot of songs contain a ton of words aside from desire - slowed by hucci which is a pretty on the nose description of how [redacted]'s seen by everyone outside of their group.
i wanna breathe into your well see, i gotta hunt you i gotta bring you to my hell
and yeah, that's it! i know it's a lot read and very ramble-y, so if you took the time to read this, thank you! i had a lot of fun answering!! :)

So this is a personal one for me to ask and if you're not comfortable with it don't mind it; how would the tmnt boys (seperate) react when the reader confesses that they're autistic after the boys got curious when she had some peculiar, behavior or stims. The reader would be stressed, because she has a crush on the tmnt boy in question and she didn't want them to find her weird or just stop interacting with her. When she's met with confusion instead, because the boys never heard of it, cue this weird conversation where reader tells them to the best of her ability what it is and the boys just keep asking questions. Also some general headcannons with it maybe?
Okay so I'm actually really happy that you asked me this because I feel like ASD isn't portrayed a lot in any type of media. My ADD and ASD have a lot of overlap so I hope I can capture what you're asking of me!
Now let's get into it!
TMNT Headcanons
The boys reacting to an autistic reader
Tumblr media
Leonardo
he wasn't really sure what was happening the first time you reacted
one minute you were standing next to him doing dishes and the next you were attempting to claw your skin off like an angry cat
Leo tried not to look annoyed as he watched you rub your hands against your shirt until your flesh started to turn red
you looked like you were crying but he knew you weren't
but your face was starting to turn purple and your cheeks were puffy from the effort of holding your breath
"Y/N? You need to breathe."
You shot a glare at him, scathing eyes meeting his now very concerned expression
your own softened and you clutched your arms to your chest, heaving oxygen into your lungs until your face became a normal shade again
"Are you okay?"
The words were stuck in your throat and you weren't sure if you should nod or shake your head
so you gave him a half-hearted shrug
he frowned back at you but turned to finish the dishes on his own
when he questioned you about it later he couldn't help but be curious
"Well actually it's uh- it's kinda a sensory type of thing? There are certain textures that I can't stand touching do I avoid them but if I come into contact by accident my brain just kinda explodes and I shut down."
"How exactly does that work though?"
"I don't really understand it much but like- you know that feeling you get when you think there's a bug on you and there's not but it really really feels like it?"
He nodded
"Yeah, it feels like that. And anytime I touch something that triggers that reaction it takes FOREVER to get the feeling off my skin. That's why I usually wear gloves when I do dishes. Guess I just forgot to grab 'em today."
He was sympathetic
and god, you were so embarrassed
lucky for you, Leo's not an asshole
"Well thank you for explaining it to me, you really freaked me out earlier. I'll talk to April and see if we can keep a pair or two at the lair just in case you forget again."
Consider your heart melted
you couldn't even find the words to thank him and holy shit was your face red
"Hey y/n?"
"Yeah Leo?"
"Why didn't you ever tell me- us that you were autistic?"
Did you rip the band aid off now or make something up? Which would ,technically speaking, be less catastrophic in the long run?
"I uh- I really like you and I really didn't want you or the other's to look at me differently..."
wow, you liked him? miss ma'am you have saved this boy a world of anxiety and damn does he thank you for it
"Thanks for telling me... and y/n? I really like you to."
Awh fuck yeah, best possible execution of band aid-ripping-off ever
Tumblr media
Donatello
Donnie wished he could act surprised when you finally told him
he really wanted to, it would've made you feel better for sure
but he sucked at lying and he didn't want to make you feel like he thought you were an idiot
because that was so far from the truth
after going through extensive research on Mikey's behalf when he suspected he had ADHD Donnie had stumbled across many different websites that discussed the symptoms and overlaps between both disorders
to make a long story short, Donnie knew that you had ASD and he was waiting for you to tell him
it would probably come off as rude if he brought it up in conversation right?
he didn't want to risk it
but that didn't stop him from keeping an eye on you and your behaviors
he was a man of science, of course he was going to analyze you
not in a weird way or anything, just as a curious sort of precaution
but the longer you were involved in the turtle's lives the more noticeable your stims and meltdowns got, Donnie did his best to cover for you without making you suspicious of him
eventually he'd come up with something that he hoped would come across as a friendly gesture and wouldn't set you off or scare you away
it was game night at the lair and you, as always, were perched on the arm of the sofa, a large grin plastered on your face
inside your head was exploding but you were masking it pretty well if you do say so yourself
but Donnie was, well... donnie was donnie
so when he noticed you starting to rock a little more visibly he removed his attention from commentating the game and grabbed a pair of headphones from the side table
you were beyond confused when he passed them to you but your face revealed everything
"They're noise cancelling, try them on."
holy shit it was like putting your head underwater, everything was muffled
not in the way normal headphones did, you quite literally couldn't hear anything at all, just a calm amount of nothing
you nearly started crying when you realized that Donnie had figured you out on his own
but you'd never been more relieved about anything in your life
Tumblr media
Raphael
he wouldn't admit that he was mesmerized by your presence
you practically radiated calm
his complete opposite
it was his favorite thing about you, because despite your quiet disposition and calming aura you weren't afraid to call him out or rebut any of his insults
this was not something you expected him to appreciate nor was it something you thought would make you catch feelings
but damn if you didn't
he'd been sitting in on yours and Donnie's little experiment for an hour or so now, watching you both exchange quiet whispers and inside jokes that you always seemed to lag on
then you slipped up
not bad, nothing detrimental to the project, just the same mistake that you'd already made ten times over
you might as well have exploded
"Y'N, you just have to move thi-"
"I KNOW DONATELLO. I FUCKING KNOW AND I JUST CAN'T DO THIS BULLSHIT!"
you set everything down gently enough to avoid breaking it before turning and storming out of the lab, waving your hands like they were on fire
Raph and Donnie exchanged a look that sent the larger red turtle following after you
when you calmed yourself down enough to talk you kept your gaze locked on the wall, explaining that you couldn't make eye contact when you were upset
he might not be the smartest brother, but Raph's no dummy, he put those pieces together pretty quickly after you told him that one small detail
he wasn't upset that you didn't tell him and you'd personally never been more relieved
your heart nearly splattered into the stratosphere when you finally gace him your own explanation
"yeah, I like ya too."
you grinned so wide you were sure your face would split open and your entire body rocked side to side with excitement
he thought that was pretty adorable too
And he did stick around to offer a bit of support when you apologized to Donnie for screaming at him
Tumblr media
Michaelangelo
to be frank it probably shouldn't have taken so long for Mikey to realize that you were autistic
the similarities between your own personality and his ADHD were so in sight it was near painful
it was his turn to make dinner that night and you'd made sure that you came over early to help him set up, you knew how side-tracked he'd get and you were the poster child for solid routine
what more perfect matchup existed?
trick question, there isn't one
you were on one side of the counter cutting vegetables and he was on the other throwing said vegetables into the mixing pot
the music was at an ungodly level of loud so your only means of communication were screaming over it
"MIKEY."
"WHA?"
"YOU GOT THE-"
"YEAH."
"AND THE-"
"UH HUH."
"COOL, HAVE YOU SEEN THE-"
"TONGS? NO, THE SKEWERS. YEAH, THEY'RE IN THE OTHER DRAWER."
"THANKS."
the two of you went about your previous tasks, thinking nothing of the conversation that had just taken place
at least until you'd begun washing your knife and cutting board
that's when Casey walked in, looking both perturbed and annoyed at the same time
"Alright, which one of you knows telepathy?"
Mikey exchanged a glance with you and you returned it with a raised eyebrow
"The hell you mean brah?"
he looked at the both of you like you were the ones that had grown four extra heads before speaking again
"You literally just had a conversation with like five words and somehow just knew what the other meant? What's up with that?"
you glanced at Mikey again
"Holy shit, did we?"
"I mean, not really. You used your hands."
now all three of you were confused but it quickly became two when Casey shook his head in defeat and left the room
"You know I think he's right."
he blinked first and your staring contest ended
"But you used your hands-"
"I got autism Mikey, one does not simply not use their hands as forms of speech."
"You're-"
"Yep."
was the silence laughing at you? could it do that? it was kinda rude
"Huh, that actually makes sense, that's not mean is it?"
you shook your head no
"You're just me but fast."
Mikey agreed with that, pestered you with a few more questions, and went back about working, as did you, you saw no reason to address it further
but your cheeks burned red
"Yo- Y/N that actually explains why everyone else thinks we're a thing."
you didn't know if you could choke on air or not but you did it anyways
"Are we?"
he gave you his signature grin
"If we are then Raph owes April a hundred bucks."
you returned his smile
"Oh this oughta be good."
I'd like to preface this by apologizing for my near three week absence. Life got crazy and my writer's block hopped on a train, went through a school zone, killed seven pedestrians, and committed tax fraud before tumbling off a cliff never to be seen again.
But on the bright side- I got my SAT scores back and started some scholarship applications. Super happy with that. School's out in a few weeks so I'll be able to write more (hopefully).
Anyways, I hope I got this one down okay. I may have hyper analyzed the request so I might be a little off. But I really enjoyed doing this one and I hope you like it!

I know I've brought this up before, but how much of the fandom reception of the prequels do you think stemmed from the genre dissonance? That the prequels, genre-wise, are closer to high fantasy, while the OT is more an adventure/space western/underdog triumph story.
The prequels also have elements more reminiscent of a romantic period/court drama/Shakespearean tragedy, while if you consider the underdog angle of the OT, the OT also seems kinda similar to some of those inspirational movies about sports teams or something, or a shonen anime with the "Power of Friendship".
I'm just saying, these are rather disparate genres that tend to attract different demographics of people.
And not many people tend to be... great about understanding why they don't like something, much less putting it into words, or understanding that they can dislike something without that something being actually bad. (For example, instead of "I just don't really like [thing]," the usual statement is something along the lines of "[thing] absolutely sucks.")
So the usual response is trying to find (and gather) solidarity while putting down or being condescending towards any dissent, and trying to justify their own dislike. (*gestures vaguely towards pineapple on pizza*)
And historically, it's not uncommon for people to... react strongly towards things they find... different or abnormal, which they judge based on themselves, their emotional response to something, and what they're used to.
Looking at kids, this behavior is... fairly normal. "You're weird," "ew, why do you like that, that's gross," "that's stupid," and so on. A lot of kids/teens/young adults also get defensive really easily. And let's face it--adults are basically just older, taller kids who've had to deal with more of life.
(To be honest, I also get defensive really easily. A lot of people do, and it's... it's normal. The defensive reaction can be lashing out, denial, or just being passive-aggressive or staying silent and tuning it out or mentally rolling your eyes at it. But I'm trying to work on it, because just because it's normal doesn't mean it's a good reaction.)
So, what I'm wondering is whether some fans dislike the prequels simply because it's a different genre...
...but instead of realizing that, they try to defend and justify their dislike by pointing fingers and criticizing whatever stood out or looked different from the OT or cherry-picking details/taking things out of context or making negative conflations (that can be refuted).
Because it's not about logic, it's about how they feel. And people want to feel justified and validated, and we want to feel like we're right and we enjoy staying in our comfort zones. So... yeah. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
LOL, okay, this response is going to be really disjointed because I went off in like a dozen different tangents and even then it's not enough to cover everything, so just kind of read this in a Scattered Thoughts Nerd kind of tone, where I'm staring off into the distance because Navel Gazing Gets Me Going Sometimes. 😂 In my experience, it's sort of a mix. I don't hang around a lot of people who dislike the prequels (in the sense of dismissing them/not being fannish about them) because, well, that's the heart of my interest in Star Wars, so our areas of interest basically don't really overlap that much, so I don't have a chance to talk to a lot of people and find out their reasons or even how they dislike the prequels, in the bigger trends of fandom. I do think there's an element of what you're talking about, that sometimes people can't just dislike things because it's not their genre of choice, that's absolutely a part of it. Mostly because that's how a lot of people react to anything they don't like (and it's something I and literally everyone else has to work on), there has to be a reason for it that it's objectively bad and, like, I have experienced a lot of people getting mad because I like something in a different way than they do. And I don't mean just in Star Wars fandom, but in almost any given fandom--if someone likes something in a way someone else doesn't, if they talk loudly about it (even within their own space), then there's always a contingent of people who have to find a reason why that person is objectively wrong (or even try to make them morally wrong), rather than just shrugging and going, "We see things differently, my view on things doesn't overwrite theirs and their view on things doesn't overwrite mine." It gets more complicated in instances where fandom attitudes genuinely can be hurtful, especially when they're overlapping into the way real people are treated, likes/dislikes don't 100% exist in a bubble, especially when it comes to queer fans, fans of color, disabled fans, mentally ill fans, etc. But that there are a lot of instances where fandom culture has always been--and is increasingly so--contentious and it's hard to chill out when someone is always screaming at you, when the atmosphere of the fandom is always so intense. Further, there's also an element of how fandom has always been--and also is increasingly so--about personal resonance, personal emotional investment, interpretation, and meaning. That sometimes we identify with something so deeply that we feel attacked when someone else likes or dislikes something we feel so strongly about, something that we feel is a reflection of ourselves, and I see a lot of that as well. And this, too, often crosses over into lines of how the context of how we treat characters can be reflections of how we treat real world people, but that there's no monolith here as well. For example: I make fun of Anakin, this angers some people, because how dare I not take this fictional victim 100% seriously, despite that I have repeatedly said that Anakin is the character I most identify with, that things I make fun of him for are ones that I resonate with personally. I'm not disrespecting mentally ill people, especially considering that Anakin is not bound to a single interpretation on this front--he is not canonically mentally ill, no matter how easy it is for us in fandom to map much of that onto his character or, in my case, feel that so much of what I see in him are things I struggle with myself. By and large, the majority of the people I see (at least on tumblr) who make fun of Anakin are doing so within the same vein, that they're being silly about him on things that they personally relate to. (My experiences on this are not universal, I cannot speak for the whole of even any one part of fandom, only my own sphere of experience, but this is what I've seen.) As always, it's fine if someone doesn't vibe with my style or they find that it's not their thing because they do take him more seriously, but that preference does not make my jokes
suddenly not have the context that I relate a lot to what I see in Anakin. In contrast, the way some of the fandom treats Mace or Finn isn't just personal all the time. Not liking their characters isn't inherently racist, but the way they're consistently, consistently treated sure as hell speaks to a larger pattern of racism in fandom and doesn't come without that context. It's the same with Rey--is there a huge vein of misogyny when it comes to her character? Abso-fucking-lutely there is. Things Luke and Anakin get a pass on, Rey is raked over the coals for. Is everyone who dislikes Rey a misogynist? Not even close. Some don't like her because Finn was used as a prop for her story. Some people don't like her because she got sucked into Kylo Ren's story too much. Some just don't care for the way she was written for other reasons. Some just don't vibe with her. It's fine. Nothing is a monolith. And to circle this back around to what you're talking about--it's hard to judge, both because no part of fandom is a monolith in their reactions, but also because we're only hearing from a selection of the fans. How do you know how many people who aren't fans of the prequels, who just don't care for them because it's not their genre, but just go about their day? You don't hear from a lot of them because they moved on to things they do like, so it seems like they must not exist--except, they do, and they're just out there doing things they like more. We only hear from the people who feel the need to tell others they dislike the prequels for this reason or that reason, some valid, some less valid, etc. Ultimately, I do think there's probably a fair amount of genre dissonance for why people dislike the prequels and channel that into "they're objectively bad" and get defensive when people like them and say they were great, but only because that's true of anything anywhere. But that it's only one small slice of the bigger picture (and there's a lot of stuff that I had to eschew in the writing of this response as well because it can be a pretty sprawling topic), where there are tons of reasons and reactions that people have, as well as they're perfectly free to dislike the prequels for whatever reason they do or don't have, it doesn't really affect my opinions, unless they're trying to shove it in my face or are being a dick to those who disagree with them.

How are CttC!au Clarke and Lexa doing? I love that fic so much. I read it again last night. Bless you for writing such wonderful fic!
Thank you 💜💜💜💜💜
Have some notes/outline I wrote for a hypothetical next chapter:
They make plans for Lexa to fly to Toronto for a long weekend
There's some tension around Clarke's insistence on buying Lexa's plane ticket. Meanwhile, Lexa is adamant she wants to pay her own way. They argue a little - not a fight, but they're both stubborn.
Until Clarke is like, exasperated, "what's the point in having money if I can't spend it on the people I love?"
And Lexa relents, her objections dismantled by pleading eyes that haven't lost their ability to disarm her over Facetime
Lexa goes to the set to watch the filming of Clarke's show. She's met at the security desk by an assistant (Maya?)
The set: a dingy basement club, the brick walls covered in overlapping tour posters and fliers: The Stooges, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop. A small stage at the back of the bar, lit by a couple of spotlights. Tables and chairs scattered around. A neon lit bar runs the length of one wall.
Clarke's costume: smoky eye makeup and faux fur hanging off one bare shoulder. All in black. An alluring stare directed at the camera
Lexa gets to watch Clarke in action, tearing up the stage. It blows Lexa's mind. Impressed by it all and wholly infatuated by Clarke's performance, this charge of headstrong rock, the bluesy swagger of her vocals, full of crags and cracks, and the sneer on her lips. Parading around with so much attitude. Clarke glances at Lexa while she sings in a sandpapery alto, holding Lexa's gaze for a long second and it gives her chills
Lexa gets an insight into what acting for television is really like. Each scene is shot multiple times from multiple angles, with different sets of blocking. It takes hours to shoot a single minute-long scene. Resetting the position of the cameras. Adjusting the lighting. Makeup and hair retouches. Running the same lines 20 times over, at varying cadences; faster, slower, and the widest range of emotional temperatures. Heightened or naturalistic. Intense preparation and a flurry of activity followed by a lot of waiting around
There's no privacy either. People knock on the trailer door every five minutes or you could be sitting around for hours
Clarke's process for memorising lines: she has a working script where she writes out the lines from the whole scene and blanks out her own, leaving only the prepositions as a memory aide
Lexa watches Clarke chat with the crew a little, the gaffers and grips. Jokes as a hem is adjusted or a hair is teased back into place. Sees how at ease and natural Clarke is with the crew, no ego. She's super nice and polite to the production assistants when they bring her water between takes
Murphy is the opposite. He takes a method approach. He doesn't talk to anyone or make eye contact except with the director or producers during downtime to stay focused, stay in character. Withdraws to his trailer. Even maintains a flawless English accent throughout (thick Brummie like Ozzy Osbourne? for the lols)
At the break, Lexa tells Clarke how badly she wants to kiss her. And Clarke is like, "Uh, I'm not gonna incur the wrath of the hair and makeup ladies by letting you mess up my look, buster."
But she walks her fingers up Lexa's bicep, following the trunk of the tattoo, then slips her hand around to grip the back of Lexa's neck. "Fuck. Kinda really want to though. But, hey, come discover the joy of craft services."
They hang out with the extras at lunch, and Lexa falls a little deeper as she observes Clarke interacting with people, remembering small details about their lives and showing a genuine interest in them
The AD asks Lexa if she'd like to be an extra in the scene and she leaps at the chance - can't wait to boast to her pals at the salon. Tris, in particular, is gonna flip her shit when she hears
At the denouement of the scene, Clarke goes off script, wades into the crowd, through the press of bodies and up to Lexa. Tells Lexa under her breath to follow her lead and pulls her into a hungry kiss. Lexa's dazed reaction is genuine and she sways forward as Clarke retreats
Dimly, she hears the director remark: "Okay, we're keeping this."
