tic my dear friend tic tell me about your ocs? what’s their world like? do they have any favorite hobbies? what’s their favorite colors? :0
Apologies, I kept forgetting to answer this! I have lots of OCs in lots of different stories, but since I've been thinking about them a lot lately, here's some of my Pokemon Paccello OCs!
Tumblr media
Maren Greenwood
Maren is a 17 year old trainer, finally going on her journey now that her parents moved from Hoenn to the Paccello Region. After meeting a few other trainers, she started traveling with them and has become a bit of a big sister figure. She loves nature, photography, and cooking her parents' recipes. Her partner Pokemon is a grumpy Shroomish named Olive (or Olly for short).
Tumblr media
Cedric Atterberry
Youngest son of the wealthy Atterberry family, Cedric has spent his whole life striving to be the best of the best. At only 18, he has landed a job as a scientist with Tonale Co, the biggest and most influential company in Paccello. However, his real passion is art, and he designs all of his Pokemon fusions for the company with beauty in mind. His partner Pokemon is a Spritzee/Swablu fusion named Ophelia.
Tumblr media
Leodora Reyes
President of Tonale Co, Leodora has made the company (and therefore the region) thriving and populus. Behind closed doors, however, she is often severe and harsh, accepting nothing but good results from her admins. Leodora's dream is to make other regions as successful and eco-friendly as she's made Paccello, but she believes that she is the only person who can do that. And she's not afraid to get that power by force.

The more I reflect on the show, the more I understand and am happy with the plot and dialogue deviations. I think this comes from my realisation that it’s not just dialogue from the book they had to transfer, but moreover Lucy’s descriptive narration as well, and turn that into new dialogue and story. Additionally, they have to be able to show perspectives other than Lucy’s, which I think they did exceptionally well.

bruh i'm so physcially (walked all the way to the cinema), mentally (woke up like multiple hours beofere i normally wake up with a very late night), and emotionally tired (i let the barbie film sit with me and actually dwell on it which i never normally do. normally just jump into the next thing) that i am so astronomically tired. i lied down on the sofa and listened to the barbie movie soundtrack for like 2 hours before playing a relativly relaxing game which again i don't normally do
so anyway in other news imma start the one piece anime
i did already watch the fist episode and was like god it's too long
but like every other anime i'm watching at the minuet is either heavy/weird/thought provoking from the start that the only show i can think to watch at that will be chill and joyus enough is one picec cos i already know roughly how the first 80 ish episodes pan out cos i watched the live action
wooooooooo
wish me luck
god this is gonna take forever

super brief thoughts on Li Su Su
I feel like I ragged a little on her in the last post and I want to clarify - I find both her book and show counterparts fascinating. While I do love the uneasy-frenemy banter in the books between Li Su Su and Tantai Jin, where they always know the other is up to something and all their repartee has the edge of a knife even as they grow to have a strange understanding and twisted fascination of the other deeper than anyone else’s -
The narrative as it stood, this serial oft-travelogue in that subgenre of batshit action and over the top characters, would have been harder to sell on screen. I think they made an excellent choice to focus on Tantai Jin as a more complex, nuanced character and build up his personal journey. While the webnovel’s fast pace and action could carry the roadtrip adventures as they meandered back to main plot, both budget and the need for consistent overarching story structure complicate that for show.
(I also think this politely avoided some incredibly Unfortunate Implications regarding people with antisocial personality disorders due to the in-your-face allegory lol.)
In doing so they had to change up her character, and possibly played it safe due to genre conventions leaned into her directness to keep the plot moving. (Given the care and energy with which they fleshed out the two biggest secondary female characters.) But it’s also fascinating to me because even her lighter show characterization feels like it’s calling back to book characterization - but book characterization from the second dream, of her younger mischievous fairy self before the weight of apocalypse crushed her into what she is in the opening of the book.
(Plus on just a personal level maybe partly due to early fandoms I had and neglected female characters there, female characters with somewhat messy writing but who are so fascinating to explore the implications and potential layers of are like catnip to me.)
#TEOM meta#im still not sure this is coherent but i KNOW that if i put it in drafts again to write better later it will DIE there lol so#im trying to actually post things im excited to write and think about instead of everything dying on the vine because it's not 'perfect'#believe me it is wild to hear myself say 'i think they made the right choice in shifting the main protagonist to the male lead from FL'#but it really was and although LSS ended up a little simplified with less time devoted to her changing complex emotions she's still#yknow the co-lead. also i have so many weird analytical thoughts that have no answers about just the shift in directing#e.g. in early scenes with the flat composition of her contemplating him on the ice and him on the ice where i feel like the tone doesn't#quite come through. is it meant to convey a creeping sense of callousness that peaks in the whipping?#but she COULD act that - we see it in others scenes - so the combination of her sitcom acting and the shot composition and music#it feels like she was directed to act the scenes very very casually and thus leaving it tonally jarring in a sort of fascinating way#anyway i think this adaptation is kind fo amazing there's so many points where they tease out book themes and threads#and weave them back in to a different point in the story (bcs of compression) where it ends up MAKING MORE SENSE???#SO fun to just chew on with my brain as someone who read the book and enjoyed it with critiques and has been enjoying the show a lot as#well just also with some critiques. just genuinely really cool and exciting to dig into the writing craft of it or at least try

The 2022 Miss Universe pageant was last night!
Which means: the National Costumes are here.
Yes, there is video. It’s worth watching if you want to see how some of these look in motion, but I’m warning you in advance that the emcees keep doing these shitty little rhyming couplets, and they will make you want to strangle them with one of the many available voluminous gown trains. So I’m suffering on your behalf, and liveblogging.
First up: Albania.
Tumblr media
Sparkly flag-inspired bodysuit with train is the voting “present” of the Miss Universe National Costume Competition.
Tumblr media
Angola. She did a fun dance on her way to center stage, which would probably not have been possible in her original costume, which was “tree-inspired” and too big to ship to New Orleans.
Tumblr media
Argentina. This is where the video does come in handy, because without it I would not be able to award her First Contestant To Visibly Struggle Under The Weight Of Her Outfit. It’s a waterfall. The rainbow crotch area was certainly a design choice.
Tumblr media
Armenia. I would like to see what’s going on with the bodice behind the... shield thing? but she never put it down.
Also, it turns out that when one contestant has a costume dedicated to solemn remembrance of the Armenian genocide, and the contestant immediately after her has a costume that’s about beach parties, there is kind of an uncomfortably abrupt tonal shift that happens onstage.
Tumblr media
Aruba. Like I said: weird tonal shift! She did a little shimmy dance at Miss Armenia as they passed each other and it was clearly awkward for both of them. This is made of recycled materials leftover from Carnival, which is cool? I guess?
Tumblr media
Australia. This is a prom dress. Boo.
Tumblr media
Bahrain. A rare pants look! There’s a lot of detail in the headdress and bodice that’s kind of getting lost, but it looks cool in motion. Also the theme is apparently “Bahrain is rich as fuck,” so congrats I guess?
Tumblr media
Belgium. Okay so the theme of this costume, my hand to g-d, is “the window on the International Space Station that Belgium built.” Why does this requires a shit-ton of leftover Christmas tinsel and some very awkward-to-wear angel wings? I do not know.
Tumblr media
Belize. This is fun! It’s a good “lesser-known Batman villainess” kind of look. Like if Ivy and Catwoman co-mentored someone. The actual theme is “the world’s only jaguar reserve, which is in Belize,” but I think it’s also kind of implying that she might be a were-jaguar. Which, again, is fun!
Tumblr media
Bhutan. This goes in the “just an actual regional/folk costume” category, which is also kind of like voting Present, but it looks like the fabrics are nice.
Tumblr media
Bolivia. She has an entire Andean condor on her head so I’m already on board. This photo only shows the cloak, which is covered in silver spangles in honor of Bolivia’s silver mines, and is also why her condor is perched on a miner’s helmet. The dress underneath is entirely made of swags of sparkly gold beads, so the visual effect is actually pretty nice in motion.
Tumblr media
Brazil. The construction details on this are actually quite lovely! Lots of intricate beading and rhinestone work. Unfortunately that doesn’t convey well at any distance, and also that white fin peplum thing flaps around really awkwardly when she walks. Oh, wait, she can flip it up to be a clamshell thing behind her head!
Tumblr media
That looks much better.
Tumblr media
British Virgin Islands. First giant flower of the year!
Tumblr media
Bulgaria. Apparently this is made of neoprene? So with that and the rainbow stripes, the effect ends up being kind of “what if Midsommar, but at a rave.”
Tumblr media
Cambodia. It feels weird to say “yep, standard Miss Universe warrior goddess costume” but basically that’s what this is. I do like the green-and-gold color palette, though.
Tumblr media
Cameroon. “The baskets represent the nation’s agricultural movement.” Okay! I like how it’s giving “Valkyrie, but make it Global South,” though I’m not sure three entire country-shaped cutouts were necessary.
Tumblr media
Canada. Another fine Miss Universe tradition: contestant who knows how to dance en pointe so she’s going to goddamn wear a costume that goes with pointe shoes, Or Else. Some nice beadwork! I would let her be the third, secret red swan in Swan Lake if that were a thing.
Tumblr media
Cayman Islands. Sexy Blue Iguana is a fun concept! There’s a tail in back of the cape.
Tumblr media
Chile. Sexy Atacama Desert is kind of abstract, as these things go, but I respect her choice to wear something she could walk in.
Tumblr media
China. Hilariously, the announcer was like “This look... does not match the bio we were given, so I’m gonna wing it!” The fabrics are nice -- the satin drapes and moves well -- but the embellishments are kind of meh compared to some of the Miss China looks I’ve seen.
Tumblr media
Colombia. This is a legit great Sexy Phoenix, but I need you all to know that her crown got turned a little sideways while she walked to the stage and she clearly knew it and just as clearly could do nothing about it, and I feel bad for laughing but it was funny.
Tumblr media
Costa Rica. Sexy hummingbird! I think I’ve identified a recurring theme for this year. Corset and wings are made of recycled materials, which is nice, and they look well-made -- a lot of wing-based costumes tend to flop around or go crooked in motion, but not these.
Tumblr media
Croatia. Oh, honey. This has big “my mom helped me make this the night before it was due” energy, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
Curacao. “Meet the Fisherman’s Wife, a woman with a key role in Curacao’s fishing industry.” Okay? Honestly you could have left off the basket and said “this costume represents the beautiful marine life of Curacao” and I would have been like “yep, checks out” but now I have many follow-up questions.
Tumblr media
Czech Republic. This is meant to be a Mucha-inspired look but uh. Mostly it’s just. beige. I’m starting to feel like all the other Slavic countries saw advance photos of Miss Ukraine and were like “let’s just phone it in this year, girls, there’s no point.”
Tumblr media
Dominican Republic. “This costume recognizes the importance of birds in Dominican culture.” They did make it with silk feathers, which I appreciate, because it would have been very weird to use real ones with that mission statement. Also I like her headdress, and the giant feather fans are a good way to nod in the direction of wings without the hassle of actually wearing wings.
Tumblr media
Ecuador. This looks good in motion! She did some dancing onstage that worked well, and there’s a great sculpted Inca head scowling on the back of her headdress. This is still only a few notches above voting Present, though.
Tumblr media
El Salvador. “History of Currency,” which is definitely a concept! The Bitcoin wizard staff is sure something.
Tumblr media
Equatorial Guinea. A perfectly nice entry in the “actual regional costume” category, but on the video I was like “oh, yikes, her headdress is really wobbly” and then it FELL OFF and I felt so bad for her.
Tumblr media
Finland. “Spirit of the Forest”? Fuck off, that’s a prom dress. Boo.
I’m going to pause here so this readmore doesn’t get completely out of control. Shit, there are 50 more of these? Well, I have only myself to blame.

i am always thinking about how tarsier studios decided against making little nightmares 2 a co-op game because they knew it would impact how players engaged with the narrative and perceived the storyline.
six was an ai partner purely so that her character could be captured correctly, with integrity, and the story as a whole could be told to us truthfully and as it was specifically supposed to be portrayed. they didn't want people to be overly silly or "goof off" too much, which i completely understand.
it makes everything that happens in the game even more meaningful. i'm glad they went with that route.
tonally, i think that little nightmares 3 won't suffer too much from being co-operative. i think it's going to be a more lighthearted instalment anyway, and there's the added context that low and alone have been best friends for years, so them "having fun" together while we in turn have fun together won't detract from the narrative too excessively.

hey, if you watched comic relief, did you think david looked unbearably tired? he sounded near tears at times and idt it was just bcs of the charity videos
Hi there! I'm not in the UK, so I wasn't able to see Comic Relief while it aired, or any clips until now.
I didn't notice the tiredness at first, but it definitely seemed to become more visible later in the show, as did the sounding near tears. This moment (which I got from a fan on Twitter who compiled all of David's bits) in particular really got me, as it's so apparent here...
As to what could've been causing this, I think there are several things that could have been happening, possibly even all at once. Up until I got into Good Omens/David/Michael, I wasn't at all familiar with Comic Relief, but having watched the show for a few years now, there are some really striking things I've noticed about how it's structured and what it involves.
On the one hand, you have lots of famous actors and comedians and musicians putting on a show and telling jokes...and then on the other, you have emotional videos of people in dire situations, both in the UK and abroad. And because Comic Relief is live, it's much harder to build in transitions between these two things, so you end up dramatically shifting from lighthearted to serious and back, and it leaves you with a bit of whiplash as a result.
So if those abrupt tonal shifts are difficult for us an audience, they must be even more challenging for the host(s), including David. I think the live aspect of the show makes it very similar to theater and how David might have reacted in differing moments during Macbeth, because we're seeing emotional reactions in real time, without the benefit of editing. Tonight was also the last occasion of Comic Relief that Lenny Henry was hosting after nearly 40 years at the helm, so I feel like that probably made David emotional as well, given how much he has worked with and admires him.
As for the tiredness, it seems there were at least a few interviews that David did prior to the broadcast, so he was probably running around all day trying to get everything done. Then you add to that the chaos of multiple hosts on stage and everyone trying to find their marks (which seems to have been something David was stressing out about a bit in one of the interviews today), plus the charity videos, and it's no wonder that he looked so drained.
(Another thing I also wonder is if David's demeanor had anything to do with sharing the stage with Davina McCall, who was allegedly outed as a TERF last year. Given the attacks from the anti-trans loons that David and Georgia have endured over the last several months, I can imagine that he might not be comfortable co-hosting with someone who espouses such views. And for the record, there was something about Davina that inexplicably annoyed/seemed off to me long before any of the TERF stuff came to light. It seems like my instincts have been confirmed in that regard...)
So yes, those are pretty much all of the things that came to mind regarding David's demeanor at Comic Relief. He's probably been running himself ragged lately with new projects since Macbeth ended (the Genius Game hosting gig, for one, and an appearance on the SmartTV game show, plus multiple upcoming Comic Con appearances), so hopefully he can find some time to relax and breathe in between all of this, because he more than deserves a break.
I hope this helps to answer your question. Thanks for writing in! x

You think Crocodile's gonna blow his stack when he finds out how shitty Luffy's upbringing was? His baby boy repeatedly got tossed into the jungle to fend for himself against wild animals, as well as off cliffs and left to float into the fucking air on balloons all courtesy of Garp. He got left alone for long periods of time possibly as early as infancy, also cuz of Garp. And oh yeah, he was tortured by pirates, almost burned to death in a giant garbage fire, and went through the trauma of losing a brother.
Like, no matter how stern or distant of a parent Crocodile may be, I don't think he would be content to stand by and let any of that happen to baby Luffy. Also also, Crocodile witnessed firsthand Garp impeding Luffy's attempts to rescue Ace. The Cross Guild wants Garp for his bounty. Crocodile wants Garp for REVENGE.
With Garp I feel like it could go either way because like, let's be real for a second
Tumblr media
This is 100% played for laughs.
Like if we're being serious then yes, in the Very Real World this is absolutely child neglect and abuse, Garp's parenting would NEVER fly (🥁) in our Very Real World. But just like Nami can physically abuse Luffy and co for laughts and get away with it, Garp's "training" is very much the same tonally, a Cartoon Slapstick Gag (made even more obvious when Toei animated Baby Luffy flying off into the sky going "UGYAAAAA" (that clip lives in my head rent free it's so funny??)) and a reflection of how this ridiculous old man (who might've been through even more ridiculous training in his childhood) views how a small child can be trained.
And so like. I could imagine Crocodile being like "who the fuck does that to a small child, are you insane" at Garp if he found out how Garp had been raising Luffy, but I think whatever reaction Crocodile might have would be played just as much for laughs as Garp's original comments were
Like IDK if Crocodile and Garp did have a relationship I think it would end up being similar to how Zoro and Sanji interact. Like Crocodile would to some degree be indebted to Garp because Garp did look after his son when he couldn't, and Garp wouldn't have a precious grandson (whom Garp sincerely does love, deeply) without Crocodile, so like. I think there could be like this mutual respect and gratitude for the other. But also it'd be kind of a begrudging gratitude and they would also hate each others guts and what they stand for and probably bicker. Lots. But in a funny way. (Like Zoro and Sanji)
Also I feel like even if Crocodile personally hated Garp's guts I don't think Crocodile would ever try anything to harm Garp. Like he saw how Luffy absolutely shattered after losing Ace, so even if Luffy and Garp's relationship wasn't the strongest, if Luffy loves his grandpappy then I don't think Crocodile would want to take his son's only grandfather, his family, away. Crocodile isn't in any kind of position to "take revenge" on the man who did look after his son for him (even if his methods were questionable at times) (Same for Dadan and the bandits too arguably)
The convenient thing of me letting this ask sit in my ask box for 20 days before actually responding is that I managed to post this thing the other day, and I want to continue an observation from that post; While I do agree Crocodile would probably be horrified to find out about all shit Luffy went through as a child... In the end, what's happened has happened, and I think Crocodile might believe that if he had wanted to ensure his son wouldn't have to go through things like that, then he should've raised the child himself. That Luffy's childhood not being all sunshine and rainbows is kind of his fault.

Raspberry Eyelet Cowl
Can you tell I like knitting eyelets? 😅 And that I have a penchant to make big lacey cowls out of sock yarn?
This one has tonal variegation with shades of magenta, raspberry, red-violet, and a warm gray that barely skews pink. Three bands of open eyelet lace (k2tog YO to the rescue!) are broken up by garter stitch bands.
Yarn: Forbidden Fiber Co Gluttony Sock (merino wool/nylon)
Measures ~8" tall by ~67" circumference
