Disney Channel’s First Gay Marriage Proposal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
by spaceotter42
Disney Channel viewers may be pleasantly surprised to see a gay marriage proposal on Friday’s episode of “Bunk’d.”
In the March 3rd episode, “No Pain, No Grain,” “Winnie helps her brother Wayne propose to his boyfriend (Nicholas) during their visit to the camp.”
Wayne and Nicholas are played by Jacob Haren and Frankie Rodriguez.  Frankie also plays openly gay Carlos on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series on Disney+.  And Jacob is a Broadway actor of “The Book of Mormon” and other productions.
Bunk’d is a long-running Disney Channel series, a spin-off of “Jessie,” and it has been renewed for a historic seventh season.
Friday night is Disney Channel’s most progressive night for LGBTQ+ firsts.  First, we had gay characters Cyrus Goodman and TJ Kippen on “Andi Mack.”  Then a trans character, Nikki, was introduced on “Raven’s Home,” and an out gay character, Alex, was seen on “Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion.”  The last two TV episodes aired on the same night, July 8, 2022.
The above pictures are from Just Jared Jr.

i wish people were being louder about ultra violet and black scorpion getting cancelled?? i dont think it has any sort of fandom but its RARE that a disney channel show will get cancelled after one season. it seemed to play out similarly to fast layne, a more action based single cam show that ended with a cliffhanger and never came back, but i swear they said at the time that fast layne was a miniseries, the cliffhanger was what confused me. ive heard that uv&bs got cancelled bc its too serialized and doesnt work well for reruns which i do kind of understand but i feel like there are plenty of serialized shows that air reruns?? if anything, i would catch reruns of it more often than the other live action shows i watch like ravens home and villains of valley view, but maybe thats just the timing.
anyways i was really enjoying this show and the cliffhanger really got me and it just really sucks that the show lead by an entirely latino family gets cancelled?

I was on holiday at the time of the announcement, so I missed the hype train but holy fuck, Bunk'd is FINALLY ENDING THIS YEAR.
And y'know what, I think it's long overdue. The show was supposed to end after Season 3, but ideally should've ended after S2, because it's been a complete downward spiral ever since: From writing the cast off the show for no given reason, to the retcons, to the seasonal rot, and the continued tradition of writing every character off after a season finale and replacing them with carbon-copies. And the constant renewals... there's a reason I call this show the Disney Simpsons (ignoring how Disney actually kinda does own the Simpsons but besides the point).
It would've been hardcore milking if it had gone on for any longer.
Allegedly, when production of the show was re-instated when the Writer's Strike ended (side-note, despite how happy I am the show is ending, I take no joy in the disrespect that writers have been facing over the years, no matter how bad I personally find the show to be,) two final episodes were produced in post for Season 7, a total of 22 episodes for the season, capping off the show with 161 episodes overall. The final 10 episodes are set to air this year in 2024.
My main prediction is that Episode 721 and 722 will be a two-parter finale to end off the series. I am HOPING that they bring back Jessie (it's a Jessie spin-off without Jessie herself, wtf?) and the Rosses (except for Luke and Kipling) and reveal what's been going on since the OG cast was written off. Either way, I just hope that it doesn't suck and even moreso that Disney will actually COMMIT to this instead of some surprise renewal.

I been thinking of there being a comic book IP and sometimes a shared universe with superheroes, vigilantes, super-powered individuals, etc., similar to Marvel and DC, but it’s from shows and movies that either been cancelled, been left on a cliffhanger, are underrated, are not well-known, or have more potential than was presented.
It can’t already be based off another series, comic book, or have even been successful, which is why The Incredibles isn’t on here.
There are a few more that I want to include but I’m not sure about some of them.
And I will give you credit if anyone decides to come up with a name for whatever this is.

Why are all the series I've watched lately featuring Mexican American protagonists and families end up getting cancelled. Ahhhhh. And on essentially cliffhangers/and or where obviously so many things are left unresolved and the series could have continued.
All the series I've watched with this being the case are:
Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion
Gentefied
Party of Five
Vida
George Lopez
Currently watching The Imperfects on Netflix, but I know that was cancelled too 😭
This is why we can't have nice things

When Disney Channel has the same amount of current super based shows as CW..
Disney Channel: just starting 2 - Villains of Valley View, Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion
CW: Finishing current seasons of Superman and Lois and The Flash
The Disney Channel shows also have a likely possibility of still being on in the fall when Stargirl will be the only CW superhero show airing. .

Somewhere, off-screen, Black Scorpion is definitely groaning, "Stop referring to criminals as 'crimmies'!!!"
So...as if I don't get into teeny, tiny fandoms enough as it is 😅, three eps into Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion on Disney Channel and I'm??? 😭💗 This is SO CUTE??? It leans into its camp just enough but has so much heart (the family feels!!!! Dx)... They styled it too look like a comic book, too, which I think is a nice/neat touch, effects-wise. But the banter btwn Violet and her Tío Cruz is perf as they become a reluctant crime-fighting duo... also Cruz prolly deserves some hugs for all that baggage he's carrying around 👀 I am so here for the adventures of UV&BS! >:D | Done in Clip Studio Paint.

Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion gets cancelled after 1 season, not even 3 months after said season premieres, yet Bunk'd gets renewed for a 7th season halfway during its 6th season's run?
Makes sense (HARD /s)
