(4/10) Alive Ulla - Part 16
Tumblr media
Oh well, I keep having improvised thoughts , then I procced to write something I didn't planned, then I feel shame for writing something understructured and unlikeable.
But well, I admitted before I'm in a hurry, so, no time for editing and thinking that much, I'll accept my limits and love what I can do on my own.
This is going to get faster :
Whatever, Ulla wanted to do her big entrance but it resulted that Varian disobeyed, disposed the electric sword, played "dialogue", it was ineffective, and Donella took the sword.
All the things they destroyed with electric shocks and chemballs would took a while to reappear, the Library is not in danger as long as no body knows about the Eter part.
Ulla touristic trip to the confines of the Eternal Library was going to start after Donella got jailed, but this is going to delay more.
Ulla used the eter in the air to levitate, copy Varian's chemballs and throw them at Cyrus and Donella, make it fast and expulse them violently.
(She would have liked to play "Master of all elements" role she readed on a series of books , but that would get her exhausted, better just copy and scare them)
Then she greetted the team and expulse them kindly.
Tumblr media
Oh well, again I need to hurry, whatever:
Cyrus and Donella endup in prision
The team got a 24 hours tour around the Eternal Library
All teamed up to get Nuru's solution to the meteor shower.
They need to face the temptation of keep staying here (all are nerds, and this place is the equivalent to a free university with no need of food or staying expenses)
Nuru and Ulla are the only ones ready to leave, maybe they should leave the boys alone, but make on the other side, the trial is re-done and the year is the one they are in.
Varian is ready to leave, he wants to recover his lost time with his mother, and well, Hugo and Young stick to them.
Don't worry guys, they just need to repeat the trials to come back here.
They all leave, the portal makes a nice seccuence for shutting down and send the tokens to their temples.
Tumblr media
Everyone go to Koto, received with a welcome parade for the return of the Princess, the people spected a magical and glorious solution to be shown.
But no, she presented her working team, and give the promise to be ready to stop the meteors the very day of the shower, the people seems unsatisfied.
And they start to work, Ulla is too clingy to Varian, some people around think that's a problem, but Varian think is okey and lovely.
The work is fast, the hype is hard, everyone is soo diligent, except Yong, he is a child, the worry here is Ulla, she looks sick, looks like dying.
Noooooooo!! She coming out from the Library was like she coming out from the death, she can't die now!!
The medical care mobilizes and she is out of danger, as the nerds they all are, they don't usually tend their own needs until getting at the limit, she got used to the Eter sustaining her, her imaginary eating and sleeping was for the weekends, Varian birthday and their encounter.
Tumblr media
She heals, she was given instructions about rest, she sees how her son and friends + Koto's workers are moving non-stop until there is the lunch time, and she start to join those too.
She realizes how much an adult and fine gentleman his has become, and some people get near to her thinking she is Varian's older sister, he would be embarrassed.
The ones who tried to woo her during lunch time were dismissed each time she revealed she is married, and so, now that he has too much free time in order to "rest", she would like to spend more time with Varian.
But of course he is busy, and she thinks about Quirin now, how funny, she only thought about his son during her time locked, why not think about the "love of her life"? Now she is.
Even thinking about how her desire to spend time with Varian as a kid is not possible to accomplish, what about having another son with her husband? Ohhhhhh dear, crazy head, keep quiet and sleep already.
And that's all from now
Thankies for reading 🧭🌾🎡⚗️🌙🌠🌃🎫💐💎🌹🍍🥭🍊🍉🍎🫐🫐🍇🍥🍰⭐🌟✨💫☄️🌠

We haven't talked in a while (cause I've been dead/busy, lol) so I'm sending you MANY questions!
✨- Moonstone or Sundrop?
🔮- Something you wish had happened in the series?
📺- Another show you’d like to see have a cross over with Tangled?
🖤- Tangled NOtp?

💎- Favorite AU?
💜- Characters you think should have interacted at all or more?
📚- Favorite Tangled Fanfic?
💢- Which character do you not relate to the most?
💥- A big a opinion you have related to the Tangled movie/series?1
Hey Portal! Don’t worry, I’ve been busy too, I just got back from summer vacation.
Moonstone or Sundrop?
Oh, moonstone. All the way.
Something you wish had happened in the series?
Well there’s always the chronic thing of me wishing Rapunzel actually apologized to Cass like Cass apologized to her. Right now the biggest thing that I wish happened in the series is that we got to see a bit more of Rapunzel’s extended family besides Aunt Willow. She’s part of a royal family after all, there’s no way she doesn’t have a ton of aunts and uncles and cousins.
Another show you’d like to see have a cross over with Tangled?
Definitely either Dragon Prince or Vox Machina. I feel like some the character dynamics would be so hysterical.
Tangled NoTP
This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who knows me but…Cassunzel.
Favorite AU
I can’t pick just one so my top five favorite ones are
the New Moon AU in which Eugene and Rapunzel share the moonstone
The forbidden love au in which Rapunzel and Eugene were raised in their respective kingdoms and now have a secret romance going on and Varian, Lance, and Cass play matchmakers/chaperones
Roleswap AU, this one’s a lot more versatile but usually Rapunzel swaps roles with either Cass or Varian and she’s raised as an alchemist peasant girl and Eugene and/or Lance is the tutor to either Varian or Cass, depending on who’s the Lost Royal in the au
I don’t know if it’s an official au but @erazonpo3 had this cool Rapunzeltopia variant where Gothel never kidnapped Rapunzel and stayed to raise Cass and the canon Rapunzel and Eugene found that au’s Cass
And of course, post series au
Characters you think should’ve interacted at all or more?
Definitely Varian and Cass. Also Arianna and Cass because good god let the girl have a healthy mother figure. All of the Brotherhood, definitely. And also Lance And Rapunzel because wholesome sibling in law dynamics. Oh and I know they’re not in the show but I would’ve loved to see more of Rapunzel and Candor and Rapunzel and Dahlia
Favorite Tangled Fanfic
Oh man, I feel like I’m friends with all the good writers in the fandom. I’m still working on finishing reading them all and eagerly awaiting the rest but @th3p0rtalmaker, @majorabbey, @twotangledsisters, @flossy2003, @frozenwolftemplar, and @batata-doce-com-farofa all have such fantastic fics! You’re all such great writers and I love your work so much!
And also there’s this really great fanfic recently I found that was actually reccommended to me by @twotangledsisters called “The Fall” which focuses on Cass’s climb back up her tower at the end of CR.
Which character do you not relate to the most?
I think probably Frederic or Trevor, because never once have. I thought that kidnapping my crush or holding someone hostage was a good idea.
A big a opinion you have related to the Tangled movie/series?
This may be a piping hot take but just because Cassandra is introverted doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing or that she needed Rapunzel to break her out of her shell or even that she had no friends before Rapunzel. She doesn’t need Rapunzel to make her more likeable or socialize with people more or be more open. Being an introvert is perfectly okay. Hell, I myself am an introvert and if someone tried to get me to open up like that or be way too friendly towards me, I would also just dig my heels in or shut it out. And this take doesn’t even make sense anyway to me because Cass still barely interacts with anyone after befriending Rapunzel

hi hey very random but im new here and can i ask everything abt aiden? like the lore and their powers they seem so cool i wanna get into ur au :D
(idk how to exactly sayit)
Do not worry I basically shared almost NOTHING about them at all so no one really knows much about them except me and ONE friend. But maybe it is time for me to share more !
But- everything- ? You sure about that ? You want everything ? I'll assume you mean the important things because there's a LOT going on, you don't want to know 😭
If anyone wants MORE infos about Aiden or my worldbuilding around Tangled or my version of Vat7k. I CAN make posts going in more details but do YOU really want to read ALL OF THAT ??
So for now ! Important infos about Aiden under the cut !
Tumblr media
Small worldbuilding thingy first : witches exist in my version, they're basically halfbloods of humans x whatever magical being, and it stays in their lineage for a whiiiile. Basically, contrary to humans, witches don't need artefacts to do magic, and different witches have different magical abilities (depending on what/who was their magical ancestor). And fun fact : they can't break promises. They genuinely physically can't. Because promises are a sort of pact, so they avoid it. (Aiden made two throughout their life and it always ended badly for them)
Aiden ! They're a witch and are from a powerful witch family known for their purple eyes. Their father ran away from said family before Aiden was born so they only got to learn more about their heritage when meeting the extended family during the vat7k journey. Lots of drama on that side.
Aiden's parents are very kind and simple people, they arrived in Old Corona around the same time as Quirin and Ulla so both couples became friends. But while Quirin quickly got the villagers' respect by helping around, Aiden's parents prefered to stay low, they were here in hide-out afterall.
Aiden is around a year and a half older than Varian. They are friends, at first because their parents also are, then because they're both nerds and the only ones capable of keeping up with the other's brain. They both care for each others, and yeaaaars later Aiden gets a crush, but it's very obviously one-sided.
When Aiden was very young they didn't really know how to control their powers, causing incidents and starting weird rumors around town, so their parents decided to lock it up. Since then Aiden got a tattoo on their back as a binding spell. Their father also added an illusion rune to said tattoo to turn their eyes orange/light brown instead of purple. (so through all of Tangled The Series and a good half of Vat7k they have orange eyes).
Due to the rumors (and needing someone to do the tattoo) Aiden's family moved away from Old Corona, they spend some years in another small village farther away and only come back to the capital 2 years before the movie takes place.
Aiden almost always knew they wanted to become a physician, for multiple reasons, and worked hard to attain their goal. So when the current royal physician accepted to make them his apprentice Aiden was overjoyed. They've resided within the castle since.
They lost the use of their right leg and left foot to the storm in Queen for a day. Due to not receiving proper care in time, once back to the castle, their mentor had to cut of the limbs because they were too damaged. Aiden got a prosthesis since then and they have multiple mobility aids they can use. Though it did take a while for them to accept the whole thing.
They took care of a hurt magpie and the bird just keeps on coming back to them, his name is Camille! He is very useful when Aiden needs to communicate with someone who's far away.
Tumblr media
Aiden has almost no impacts on the Tangled Series, I like to make things difficult for myself and kept everything canon intact. During the series they are mostly off-screen being busy, their mentor makes them work a LOT, and when they have time off they mostly hang out with their friends who also work within the castle. I could genuinely make a spin off solely on castle staff shenanigans-
Aiden's interactions with the main cast is limited and, as I said, happen off-screen. The only plot point they impact is the saporian take-over of the castle. Which happens off-screen for my own delight.
They helped to get Varian and Andrew out of jail. And helped Saporians to take over Corona, until things went too far and they tried to convince Varian to turn against Andrew, to no avail. Cue to Varian and Aiden having their sort of 'break up'. Once the whole ordeal is handle by Rapz and co, the two teens decides to give their friendship another try, they still do care about the other a lot, but the subject still stains their relationship a little, even through vat7k
I've been rewritting my own version of Vat7k for the 5th time and explaining everything would take forever :'D help. But there' s like... A whole other quest that results in finding the eternal library but is kind of more important for the world- It's a forever work in progress...
Var and Add are back to being close friends when Vat7k starts. Except that while Aiden is repressing their feelings, Varian is slowly accepting his. Cue to Varian clearly flirting with Aiden but the other keep on dismissing it.
Aiden's reason for joining Varian through his journey is because : 1-something is wrong with the magic and witches started to get weaker, they hope to find the cause and a cure. and 2- their mentor really wants to retire but Aiden doesn't feel ready to take his place yet, so they kinda run away from the responsability by following Varian
Aiden's story is a lot about accepting their disability, learning to put their needs before others and learning to trust themself.
At first they kinda fall for Hugo as a way to get over Varian (he looks like fun).
Upon discovering Hugo got feelings for Varian, Aiden immediately started to play wingman for the two. Drama ensued.
They got a crossbow because they needed to find a way to help while staying at a distance.
Aiden sees Yong and Nuru as younger siblings. The whole team enjoy bantering with one another but if anyone is in danger they would not hesitate to destroy things. Aiden is closer to Nuru than to Yong though, they relate to each others in multiple ways, and Yong finds Aiden can be a bit too uptight.
Aiden learnt about their heritage and got to see how shitty their father's family is like. Said family tries to get Aiden to stay with them at ALL COST. Resorting to brainwashing at some point.
Their magic got unlocked and they got their purple eyes back definetly at that point. The tattoo is gone.
the relationship between Aiden, Hugo and Varian is pretty vague when they get back to the Light Kingdom but they are aware of each others feelings to an extent- and it almost becomes a thing! Then Donella comes back to fuck shit up-
When Varian locks himself in the eternal library Aiden was against going after him right away, they wanted to give him time to cool off and to get back to his senses on his own.
Fun fact. Since Aiden never really got the chance to learn how to do magic properly the "final battle" is genuinely.. terrible. They do try to use their power but at some point they kinda give up and just shoot "Ulla" (so Varian's body) with their crossbow. Nothing too bad no worries.-
End of Vat7k.
Once they get "proper" rest, Aiden goes back to being a physician for the crown and gets back to work right away because Rapunzel is pregnant and their mentor basically leave them a note like "your turn now, good luck 😋✌"
Varian Hugo and Aiden get officially together after all of that, the three of them. They told no one at first (except Quirin and Aiden's parents) just to mess with everyone.
I'll stop there for the story because my drawings are mostly around this period. And the rest is barely written at all yet but more shenanigans with Aiden's family happen and Donella comes back to be a bother as well. Results in Aiden's father dying and Hugo loses his right hand.
More facts :
Aiden's green ribbon in that ref sheet is from one of Hugo's dresses. Even when their hair got short they kept wearing it as a bracelet.
Aiden is from a lineage of mind witches (yeah its hypnosis basically). Their power impacts the mind. It can be used as an 'enhancement' (making someone believe they're stronger than they are or making them unable to feel pain), or to create illusions only the affected person can see. Mind control or brainwashing is possible but takes a lot of energy and practice. And each members has their set of rules to be able to use such power.
They can also like.. See the flow of magic and some other stuff. But that's a thing for most witches
Yong and Nuru are witches as well (so I could keep their original eye colors). I haven't fully decided on what kind exactly yet- but I have ideas.
Aiden does learn how to use their magic a bit better and sometimes use it on their patient as an anesthesia. They also use magic to help Hugo and Varian fall asleep every now and then.
They don't like lying but they're good at turning the truth in their favor. They enjoy playing with words.
This is for the main universe/timeline ! Because I have many AUs and 'what ifs' and since I keep on rewriting things I kept old versions as 'other timelines'- voilaa

I’m dying to know, how did Cass lose her arm in your au???
Well... as predictable as it may be, it was The Great Tree!
Though how exactly she injured (and later lost) her arms was a bit different to the show.
Basically in this AU Cass has sundrop magic running through her veins which actively keeps her alive. She can release it but if she does, it needs replenishing and seeing Rapunzel can't heal anymore that is done via the 'sundrop vials' a series of six vials that Varian extracted from the remains of the sundrop flower.
When in the Great Tree, just like the show Rapunzel resorts to using the decay incantation to stop Hector, trying to protect her friends and family. Cassandra thinks the spear is the way out but Rapunzel's too panicked to hear her. So in a moment of desperation Cassandra sends the sundrop magic out through her hand to reach for the spear.
However, the sundrop magic is at this point corrupted by the decay incantation and having it around her hand for such a long time kills that limb fully.
Though it's actually a good few days later that Eugene gets Cassandra to a medical center and they discover this and remove said limb.
Here's some snippets:
Cassandra didn’t want to die. Not like this. Not due to an incantation Rapunzel was singing. How would that make Rapunzel feel? Cassandra needed to get the spear. She reached out her right hand. As she moved her wrist, the bracelet Caine had given her caught the light and sparkled, the colors swirling like a kaleidoscope on her wrist. Cassandra’s eyes widened as the colours gave her an idea. She reached for the magic she’s used earlier, but it was all being used by the vines, so instead, she reached inside of her; she didn’t find the warm feeling; it was cold, but she decided that was good enough; she pushed it out, black trails with green sparkles came out of her right hand, surrounding her skin. It didn’t feel the same as the golden one she’s held before, more solid, almost gooey. It seemed to extend her hand, though, just as she’d wanted. But it also brought the pain back. She screamed as she forced the black magic forward and grabbed the spear.
-The Great Tree, Chapter 9: The Spear
They arrived late at the doctor’s office and Eugene urged Cassandra to wait outside for just a moment. It was late, and he needed to convince the doctors this was an emergency and he didn’t want to scare Cassandra. Fortunately for him, it just took mentioning the fingers for the nurse to go wake the doctor and Eugene to go fetch Cassandra. They sat her down on a small table and instructed her to remove the glove, when she tried to pull it off it was difficult and the doctor told her to leave it as she fetched some scissors. Cassandra didn’t look happy about the leather glove being cut. It had been a birthday gift from her father after all, but she bit her tongue, knowing if her dad were here he’d tell her to let the doctor do as needed. “Do you want me here?” Eugene asked, not sure he wanted to see whatever state the hand was in, but Cassandra nodded. “Please.” So Eugene took her good hand in his and stayed. The glove came off revealing something that didn’t even look like a hand; it was black, it was crumbling, it should have been traumatic to see, but Eugene didn’t find it traumatic because the hand was so far gone, it couldn’t even be identified as a hand. It looked like something that had been left on a frying pan for too long. Cassandra frowned and looked away. Eugene hated how her eyes landed on the floor. She was trying to not acknowledge what was going on, and he couldn’t blame her. “This isn’t salvageable,” the doctor said, but Eugene already knew that. “It’s a huge risk for infection. I’m going to get the preparations ready to amputate. I’ll have the nurse prepare a room.” Nothing the doctor said was surprising, yet Eugene felt his heart sink in his chest. “Thank you, Doctor.” Cassandra watched the doctor leave and the door close. Her eyes went up and met Eugene’s. His brown eyes were clouded by tears and he was shocked to see hers weren’t. “You’re taking this a bit too well, Cass…” Cassandra looked towards the door again, then up at Eugene. Her eyes were avoiding her right hand. “Eugene…” “Yes, Cass?” “What’s does amputate mean?”
-The Great Tree, Chapter 13: The Question That Broke Him (for anybody not familiar with the AU and confused, it's a Cass was never abandoned and grew up in the tower with Rapunzel AU, so this just so happens to unfortunately be a new word for her that Eugene gets to explain)
Thank you so much for the ask!!! ❤️❤️❤️

beth and me have talked about it a lot. but i wanna talk about alice in tangled a bit more okay cause like.
Alice is a lil girl who lives in old corona, she's quiet, she's shy, she follows her mom or sister around like a lost puppy when she can. she walks around with bruises visible, and flinches away from people.
Then Alice disappears for an extended amount of time, and just comes back and shes just kinda like that now. A lil more weird and a lil louder than before. She has far more bruises and wounds, but she's also going up to other children and grabbing them to play. and she keeps talking about absolute nonsense.
and other adults just keep going up to Quirin begging him to do something because everyone knows what's happening with helen. Everyone thinks that Alice's disapperance with just extended abuse. But what can Quirin do to the Kingsleigh family? Helen is a very high ranking noble. What can he do? But everyone in Old Corona keeps begging him, and so he promises to keep an eye on her.
But jesus christ how can u keep an eye on a child who's willing to run head first into a charging horse and what the fuck did she just put in her mouth and where the fuck did she go she was literally just here??? And just, basically, Quirin just kinda shoves Varian at Alice hoping that either the two of them will cancel eachother out, or one of them will be a good influence, or at absolute bare minimum, Varian will probably tell Quirin about their 'adventures'.
Also, how long was alice gone? Well, no one's really sure??? Cause it wasn't weird to not see her for a few days. They know that at least two to three weeks passed. But it might have been longer. All they know is that Alice wasn't so shy and had a sword when she came back lol

you got any takes on the Brotherhood and how they + Varian continue on in life after the show?
Indeed I do!
I literally cannot live in a world where the brotherhood and Var/quirin don’t recconect, it’s just too perfect and the fact that it wasn’t cannon frustrates me. I just adore thinking about Varian meeting his eccentric family and realizing he’s not the only chaotic one of the bunch, even if it’s not by blood.
It’s never really discussed in canon but I don’t really see varian knowing anyone else in his family, no aunts uncles cousins or grandparents, quirin kind of lost touch with his real family after he joined the brotherhood at a young age and Ulla is [REDACTED], so meeting any semblance of a family to varian is such a euphoric moment.
Hector and Adira adore their nephews spitfire, even if they don’t totally understand what he’s going on about they both have an admiration for passion, which Varian has enough to spare. Varians also a good kid and he likes extending his interests to assist them both, helping hector tame wildlife in old corona the same way he found ruddiger, or aiding adira in keeping her weaponry clean and rust free with chemical compounds, and he just likes showing off to them in all honesty (they aren’t complaining)

Tangled the Series Character Analysis: Childhood Trauma POV
I can't believe Tangled the Series really created two incredible antivillains and threw them in direct contrast with the pre-existing golden couple. I love what the showrunners did with the main quartet, so I made a very subjective analysis post about it from a Childhood Trauma POV. (Spoilers, obviously.)
The Boys
Tumblr media
The series' focus is on Rapunzel, and by association her direct opposite, Cassandra, so the boys get comparatively less screen time. But it doesn't take long to figure out that Varian is meant to be a parallel for Eugene—these are two people dealing with the absence of parental guardians, struggling to reconcile the lives they previously had with their changing ideals in relation to a less-than-perfect Father Figure.
They both respond to the helpless state of being young, alone, and powerless by trying to take back power in any way they can. Eugene reinvented himself and buried his desires for a family. Varian throws in everything he has into recovering what he lost, because he's a child and the best solution he can think of is to return to the familiar safety of his father's presence. A significant portion of his desperation is fueled by fear of his father’s disapproval, because as much as Quirin loves Varian, he wasn’t the dependable voice of support. Varian needs approval from outside sources, which was also Flynn Rider’s purpose in life, once upon a time. (Again, parallels.)
Throughout the series, the boys' relationship with each other transforms from exasperated incomprehension to easy understanding. The process is hastened as Eugene lets himself realize he cares a lot about troubled kids who remind him of himself. He becomes aware that children should not be required to survive on their own like he and Lance had. Spurred on by his significant other's love and encouragement, Eugene is able to acknowledge the adverse affects of his childhood on his life and start moving on. His extending a ready hand to Varian is his process of healing. Though Eugene's first priority will always be Rapunzel, he truly wants to save Varian from the uncontrollable volatility of risky decisions because he knows that downward spiral intimately.
Of course, there is a difference between thieving from the rich and planning the destruction of a kingdom. We'll get to that later.
The Girls
Tumblr media
Rapunzel and Cassandra are the biggest driving forces of narrative power in the show, and they are survivors of child abuse. Every one of the main quartet has Parent Issues, but Rapunzel takes the crown (figuratively speaking) with this one. She was kidnapped and groomed into a life-giving doll, and she was only able to escape her abusive adoptive mother through incredibly traumatizing means. For Cassandra, it was neglect, and even her loving adoptive father couldn't leviate the scars left on her childhood mind.
They're a classic case of Golden Child vs. Scapegoat, which is a common case seen in siblings raised by Narcissistic parents. When one child is "favored" more than the other, the kids experience vastly different childhoods, resulting in resentment that stems from their inability to understand each other. Rapunzel and Cassandra are both jealous of what the other had—Rapunzel wants Cassandra's casual, practiced ease with freedom and personal agency, while Cassandra wants the attention and respect that Rapunzel is given by the status of her birth. Because they're unwilling to speak candidly about the unique hardships of their childhood, what results is a series of miscommunications that put a strain on their friendship.
Cassandra and Rapunzel both want the other in their lives, but how they attempt to make that connection is very different. Cassandra wants to be a helpful, essential force in Rapunzel's life. Unfortunately, Rapunzel has been raised on the idea that when push comes to shove, no one will help her survive. Cassandra interprets Rapunzel's desire for independence as Rapunzel scorning the connection that Cassandra is attempting to create. Add in some manipulation from an ancient evil, and Cassandra decides she is done exhausting her emotions for Rapunzel.
Rapunzel, on the other hand, wants absolute honesty in her relationships. Gothel raised her on lies, so she spurns deception. But Cassandra knows the merits of protecting herself by holding her opinions in, which is where the misunderstandings occur. Rapunzel cannot trust someone who isn't completely forthright with her. She's tired of dealing with liars, and she grows afraid that Cassandra will cause her the same pain as Gothel did. But the thing is, Cassandra is not Gothel, and Rapunzel loved Gothel. She couldn't save Gothel, but maybe she can save Cassandra. It's not too late.
Rapunzel doesn't know when to give up on Cassandra because she is aware that she and Cassandra are similar people. Giving up on Cassandra would feel too much like giving up on her own hopes for a happy life. Rapunzel can't let Cassandra be unhappy. This princess cares too much, loves too hard. She never learned how to write people off because you can't survive a childhood like hers with that much cheer if you don't hang onto your optimism like a goddamn lifeline.
This is Rapunzel’s method of taking back power for herself: saving others. Rapunzel could have been Cassandra. Rapunzel is trying to believe she herself is worth saving—therefore, Cassandra must be worth saving as well. Rapunzel's significant other is giving her a stable source of love and support, but without a proper resolution to Cassandra's struggles—a final proof that despite Gothel's influence, they can both be happy—Rapunzel would feel incomplete.
The Golden Couple
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, Rapunzel and Eugene are fundamentally good people. If it comes down to it, they would be unable to sacrifice the world for their own desires. (Eugene's thievery doesn't count as an expression of true desire because it was literally his method of survival. An expression of true, selfish desire for him might've been something like manipulation and abduction for the purposes of making people stay, but Eugene is not Gothel and he would never do that to anyone in a million years.) (On a side note, Rapunzel's selfish desire might've manifested in the abandonment of all duties and personal connections in favor of eternal exploration, or revenge towards a kingdom that failed to save her, or a thorough destruction of authority figures—but she loves people too much and would never be able to forsake her family.)
Life threw a lot of rocks at them, but these two came through it marginally well-adjusted. They affirmed their love for each other in a violent, unforgettable manner, which makes it easier for them to trust in each other's affection. Eugene would've been okay with never finding his biological father, just as Rapunzel had been okay with her biological parents' inability to protect her. They have no wish to punish the world for what they suffered. They’re content with who they are. They're just glad they made it, that they're finally allowed to love someone without being afraid. They're each other's saving grace.
The Antivillains
Tumblr media
This is the difference between Hero and Antivillain: Cassandra and Varian are willing to punish the world for what happened to them. There’s a very faint line between justified retaliation and venting. In their desperation and anger, they cross the line, and they’re unable to stop themselves once they get going. Unlike the Golden Couple, Cassandra and Varian refuse to settle. They want what is owed.
Also, they really, really hate themselves. (This is important.)
Varian believes Quirin is the ultimate source of affirmation. The fact that he lost his father by way of his own dangerous experiment, coupled with the fact that no one prioritizes his call for help in the face of national disaster, is enough to make him feel isolated from the world. Though he is burdened with a growing sense of remorse for his deeds, he doesn’t stop resorting to drastic, harmful measures to get his father back until he is forcefully stopped by betrayal from his allies. He finally makes the full transition from “antagonist” to “protagonist” when Rapunzel risks herself to save Quirin from the rocks. If Quirin could not be saved, there’s a possibility Varian might have stayed an antagonist, unenthusiastic though he may have been in his villainous role. As long as Quirin is trapped in those rocks, Varian remains the villain who put him there.
With Quirin safe, Varian allows himself to take huge steps in healing. He slowly rediscovers his self-worth, one that is separate from Quirin’s approval. Rapunzel—and by extension, Eugene—play the friendly, supportive role to Varian’s ingenuity, helping him along in his quest for self-acceptance. Varian still has trouble working through the heavily ingrained self-hatred, but he recovers enough confidence in his own judgment that he takes Eugene’s warning to heart and is able to install a safety device in his father’s helmet, just in case.
This is the Varian who meets Cassandra in the Tower that once belonged to Gothel. At this point in time, Cassandra has been manipulated into thinking of herself as weak and unimportant in comparison to Rapunzel. Her adoptive father, much like Quirin, was too gruff to be vocal with approvals. Her efforts have not been met with successes. She feels like a failure, and she hates feeling like a failure. This is Cassandra’s method of taking back power: by turning herself into someone unforgettable. If she can make something of herself, she’ll finally be able to prove Gothel wrong. She can be just as special as Rapunzel, if she’s given the chance. She wants that chance.
Similar to Varian, Cassandra doesn’t stop her downward spiral until her supposed ally and mentor betrays her and forcefully takes her power away. Only when there are no options left does she allow herself to admit that she was wrong. She is then rewarded for her honesty with Rapunzel’s love and trust. Armed with a new confidence, the sisters vanquish the evil together in an epic showdown that will long be remembered. Cassandra finally gets her dramatic hero’s tale.
Rapunzel and Eugene have an internal compass that lets them make snap decisions. They don’t have the healthiest self-esteem, but they can at least stand by what they think is right. Comparatively speaking, Cassandra and Varian have terrible self-esteem. They don’t trust their own judgment and are heavily influenced by outside forces. Without the constant barrage of trust and affection from Rapunzel, who is akin to a blazing sun when it comes to personal loyalty, these antivillains might never have reached their redemptive ending. They wouldn’t have been able to let go of their twisted priorities without outside influence. Can’t blame them for it, though.
It’s no surprise that Cassandra and Varian are relatable to many people. Who wouldn’t want to reclaim what was taken from them during childhood? (Of course, the problem occurs when you start hurting others to reclaim what you lost.) Their journey is a different kind of vulnerable from Rapunzel and Eugene’s journey, and it’s extraordinary in its detail. This show is essentially a long exploration of the various ways a parent can mess you up and the coping methods of kids who want to become more than their past, which is totally up my alley of expertise. I’m grateful I got to watch them grow taller than their trauma.
Finally, here’s a parting gif of Lance, because I love him and he’s a well-adjusted ray of sunshine. We all wish we could be as mentally stable as Lance—the main quartet included.

I was so inspired by the headcanon made by @letthemsayfuck and expanded upon by @newsies-of-corona about Varian’s season 3 outfit that I had to write a quick one shot about it! It was such a cute idea and I couldn’t get it out of my head, I had to write it down. Hope you enjoy!
New Threads
It had been a couple weeks since Rapunzel had returned to Corona, and things were starting to return to normal after the Saporian attack had been quelled. Well, almost normal. Thanks to the attack, Frederic and Ariana were not currently fit to rule since their memories hadn’t yet been restored, and as a result, Rapunzel was now the acting queen of Corona. The people of the kingdom were grateful to have their beloved princess back, and Rapunzel was happy to be back as well, even if there was a certain empty spot in the castle that was hard to ignore. Coming back to Corona after losing a friend was hard, but even though she’d lost one friend, Rapunzel was happy to have gained back another one. Now that Varian had turned over a new leaf and was back on the right side of history, he and Rapunzel had managed to start laying down the bricks of their rebuilt friendship. He was a lot happier now that his father was free, and he was almost never not by his side, stuck to him like glue. Rapunzel was happy for him. She’d truly felt awful that she had let him down all those months ago after being unable to save his father, and watching Varian go down that dark road, feeling so lost and broken, had been difficult. Rapunzel never, ever broke a promise, so finally being able to keep hers had been a wonderful feeling. But even though Rapunzel still cared greatly for Varian and had forgiven him for his misdeeds, it didn’t mean that the kingdom had. Varian had never exactly been a very popular boy, not very well-liked in his village, and now he was reviled even more. True, Varian had helped save the kingdom from the Saporians, but not everyone in Corona was as quick to forgive as their princess. Varian couldn’t hardly go anywhere alone without having insults and sometimes objects hurled his way, so he hadn’t been around much since Rapunzel came back. As a result, if Rapunzel wanted to see him, she had to go visit Varian in his own home. Today was one of those days. Rapunzel journeyed happily to Old Corona, hoping to see her young friend. As she walked through the village, the people who had come back after being displaced smiled and waved at their beloved princess. She returned their greetings, happy to see her subjects out and about. She climbed the familiar steps of Varian’s home and knocked on the door.
“Oh, Princess!” Quirin greeted, opening the door.
“Hello, Quirin!” Rapunzel smiled. “How are you?”
“I’m doing much better, thanks to you.”
“That’s great to hear. I’m really glad I could help,” said Rapunzel. “Is Varian home?”
“Yes, he’s home,” Quirin replied. “He’s in his lab. You can go on in.”
“Thank you!”
“Thank you, Princess,” said Quirin as he stepped aside to let Rapunzel in. She smiled as she walked past him and went over to Varian’s lab. She stood outside the door for a moment, listening to the familiar sounds of Varian’s tinkering. She closed her eyes briefly, remembering her friend of before. But he was still her friend, and hearing the usual cacophony of his lab helped her remember that. She pushed open the door and went inside. Looking around, she spotted him in the corner working on some new machine she hadn’t seen before.
“Hi, Varian!” she said brightly. He looked up suddenly from his work.
“Oh, Rapunzel! Hi!” he looked at her with a smile on his face.
“What are you working on?” she asked as she peered at his machine in curiosity.
“Oh, this?” he stepped aside to give her a better view. “This is my newest invention. It’s a machine that’s designed to reverse the effects of the Saporian memory wand and restore your parents’ memories, since I, well...” he trailed off, his smile fading. After a moment, he sighed softly. “I’m sorry, Rapunzel.”
“It’s...well, it’s not really okay, but I trust that you’ll figure something out. You’re a smart guy. You can fix this,” she assured him.
“Thanks. For...for trusting me,” said Varian quietly. “I-I know I don’t really deserve your trust, but-“
“Varian,” Rapunzel gently interrupted. He looked up at her. “I know you feel sorry about everything. And the fact that you’re working to help me already shows me that you’re worthy of being trusted.” He gave her a little smile.
“Thanks.” He loosened up a little after previously feeling a bit tense. “So, uh, what are you doing here?”
“I just thought I’d come and check up on you, see how you’re doing,” Rapunzel replied. “Do you need any help with your machine?”
“Actually,” said Varian, his eyes brightening. “If you could pass me my tools when I need them, that’d be great.”
“You got it!” Rapunzel said cheerfully, handing him a screwdriver.
Rapunzel spent the rest of the afternoon in the lab with Varian, helping him out with his machine, watching him work, and listening to him explaining its function with rapt attention. He also talked a lot about the past couple weeks that he’d been reunited with his dad. He spoke excitedly about how happy he was to be back and how much he missed the simple things they used to do together, like having dinner in the evening, but how glad he was to get to do them again. Rapunzel loved listening to Varian talk about the things that he was passionate about, and hearing his sweet laughter again after so long was a pleasant and beautiful sound. Watching him work and hearing him talk, it made Rapunzel feel like nothing had changed. But things had changed, even in very subtle ways, and there were many indicators about just how much time had passed. As Rapunzel watched Varian tinker away on his machine, she noticed that he wasn’t quite so little anymore. Granted, he was still a “little guy”, as Eugene had called him, but Varian had grown. He was taller than he had been the last time she’d seen him all those months ago before she left. It was evident in where he now stood in comparison to Rapunzel and in the way she noticed him absentmindedly tugging on the sleeves of his faded blue shirt every now and then, as if trying to bring them down further on his arms. It could have also been a subconscious desire to cover his hands, since he was now working with his hands exposed because the black gloves he used to wear had melted off while Rapunzel was in her trance. Looking at him, she could tell why he always wore those gloves, since working without them had left behind tiny cuts on his hands from the lack of protection from his alchemy and metalwork. Really, he had simply started to outgrow his outfit. Even though Rapunzel could tell that Varian was a little bit skinnier now as a result of eating nothing but the prison food for months on end, she still noticed that his old blue shirt was starting to be too small. The way Varian shifted his feet around while standing and talking indicated that his shoes were too small as well. And even if his clothes fit him perfectly, the patched sleeve of his shirt and the old, worn fabric were signs enough that he was in need of a new outfit.
Surely he must be uncomfortable she thought as she watched him working. Then, realization struck her and her heart sank as she thought about why Varian was still putting up with clothes that weren’t exactly fit to be worn anymore. Not everyone in the kingdom had forgiven Varian yet. There were still some people who were harboring fresh wounds and weren’t ready to extend him a helping hand yet. He couldn’t even walk around without his dad nearby for fear of being harassed in some way. Even if Varian wanted to go out shopping and buy himself some new clothes, he couldn’t do it without facing persecution from the citizens who were still angry with him. But not everyone was upset. Rapunzel saw in him a good heart and she knew he had changed for real, and when she saw that a friend was in need, well, she couldn’t just sit idly by without trying to help. So when it was time to leave and she told Varian goodbye, she headed straight back to the castle with newfound determination and an idea burning in the back of her mind.
“Hey, Sunshine!” Eugene greeted warmly when she arrived back home. “How was your visit to Old Corona? Is Varian doing okay?”
“It was good,” she replied. “It was really good to see him. He’s doing a lot better. He’s back to inventing and doing alchemy.”
“That’s great to hear,” he said. “I’m glad the little guy is starting to become more like his old self.”
“I am too.” She smiled at the thought. But then she remembered what she’d been so fired up about. “Oh! I have to go see the royal seamstress,” Rapunzel said as she began walking off towards the beauty room where the seamstress worked.
“You planning on getting some new threads?” Eugene called after her.
“Something like that.”
Rapunzel entered the quarters where the seamstress worked, sewing up new clothes for the royal family. She looked around through the curtains of dresses and suits that hung all around.
“Faye?” she called.
There was a ruffling sound and a bundle of fabric was suddenly tossed through the air and a short woman with pins in her mouth poked her head out from behind some more rolls of fabric.
“Oh! Your highness!” said Faye, the seamstress. She took the pins out of her mouth and pushed them into the mini pincushion she wore on her wrist. “How can I help you? Is there something wrong with your dress?”
“Oh, no, it’s fine. Just as beautiful as ever! But I have a special request for you,” replied the princess. She took out her journal with a new painting on one of the pages and showed it to Faye. “Do you think you could make me something like this?”
Faye studied the picture Rapunzel had made, looking over all the details and specifications.
“Absolutely, Princess! I’ll get started right away.”
“Thank you, Faye!” Rapunzel said cheerfully. “I know it’ll be just great!”
***
A few days later, Rapunzel once again made the trek to Old Corona, this time with a package in her hands. She had a skip in her step as she thought about her little surprise. When she made it to Varian’s house, she entered his lab enthusiastically.
“Hi, Varian!” she announced, her voice bright.
“Oh, Rapunzel! I’m glad to see you,” said Varian. “I wanted to tell you more about my progress with the new machine.”
As he spoke, Rapunzel glanced down and noticed his hands.
“Hey, new gloves!” she observed.
“Oh, yeah,” said Varian, looking down. He was wearing a pair of new alchemy gloves, dark brown this time, with little pressure gauges on them. “Dad bought these for me the other day when he went into town. I had mentioned that it was harder doing my alchemy without gloves, and I guess he was worried that I would burn myself or something. But I’m glad to have them, it feels more normal. Anyway, I’m not quite finished with the machine yet, I’m still working out the kinks,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “But in the meantime, I’ve been working on some potions that I think could help with restoring your parents’ memories. I’ve just gotta test them.”
“Sounds like you’ve been busy,” Rapunzel said.
“Yeah,” Varian agreed, laughing lightly. “So, what brings you here so soon after your last visit? Not that I’m not happy to see you,” he added quickly.
“Do I need a reason to come visit?” Rapunzel teased.
“I don’t know. Do you?”
“Maybe I just wanted to come say hi! But actually I do have a reason.” She brought the package out from behind her back and held it in front of her so Varian could see it. “I have something for you!”
“For me?” Varian looked down at the package in her hands in surprise. “W-why would you get me something?”
“Can’t I just be nice?”
“Of course, you’re always nice. But, why me?”
“Because I thought you could use it.”
“What is it?” Varian asked.
“You are seriously missing the point of a surprise,” Rapunzel replied. She pushed the package into his hands. “Just open it and see for yourself.”
Varian set the package down on a nearby table and used the sharp edge of one of his tools to open it up. He peered inside and his eyes went wide.
“Wait, Rapunzel, really? This is for me?”
“Of course! I hope you like it. I designed it myself and I had the royal seamstress sew it up based on my pattern. What do you think?” she asked. Varian lifted the carefully folded clothes from the box and held it up to himself.
“I, wow, I don’t know what to say.”
“Well, go on!” Rapunzel said, making a shooing motion with her hand. “Go try them on! Let’s see how it fits.”
Varian picked up the box and left his lab, going up the steps of his house and to his room. A few minutes later, Rapunzel could hear footsteps coming down the stairs and Varian came back into the lab, and Rapunzel smiled at his appearance. Instead of his old blue shirt with the patched sleeve and his pants with frayed edges, he was now wearing a new dark maroon vest with gold buttons going down either side, and underneath that was a beige long-sleeved shirt with a collar. He also had a new pair of pants and a belt, plus a new shorter tan apron that tied at the waist rather than higher up on his chest like his old one. He even had a new pair of boots, with a thicker toe on them to protect his feet better from broken glass or just the usual chronic clumsiness that Varian seemed to suffer from. Rapunzel’s eyes lit up when she saw him.
“Hey, you look great!” she complimented him warmly. She got up and looked him over. “That’s a nice color on you, and it looks like it fits you better than your old shirt. Hmm, except for the sleeves,” she noticed, seeing how the cuffs almost covered his fingers. “But that’s okay, we’ll just get you some sleeve garters to wear and it’ll help with that. How do your boots feel?”
“Rapunzel, I...I can’t accept this,” said Varian softly.
“Why not? Should I have gotten you blue instead? You seem to like blue.”
“No, it’s not that.” He paused briefly. “I just don’t deserve something like this.”
“Varian, why would you say that?”
“Rapunzel, just look at everything I’ve done. I-I stole the sundrop flower, I kidnapped the queen, I tried to hurt you, worse, even. I took over the kingdom, I erased your parents’ memories. Why would you want to be nice to me after everything I did? You saved my life, you saved my dad’s life. That’s more than I could ever ask for. Why would you keep on giving me things? I don’t deserve your gifts,” said Varian sadly, nervously rubbing at the too-long sleeve of his right arm. Rapunzel put her hands on his shoulders so he’d look at her.
“Varian, it’s true, you did a lot of things that hurt me. But I can see that you’re sorry for them, and you’re working to make up for them. I know you have a good heart and that you really are a good person. You had a pretty...rough patch, let’s say. But don’t think for one second that you’re any less valuable as a person because of it. You still deserve to be treated with kindness because I can see that you still want to give kindness to others, and you’re a human being just like everyone else. That means you make mistakes just like everyone else, and it means you deserve to be treated kindly just like everyone else. I know you’re mad at yourself and that takes time to get over, but please don’t think that you’re unworthy of love or friendship because of your past. What you need to focus on is the present. Don’t talk badly about one of my friends,” she said earnestly.
Friends. Varian’s eyes lit up at the word and he gave her a smile. He liked the sound of that. He took a step back and turned around to look at himself in a mirror in his lab. He smiled at his reflection, turning to look at himself from different angles.
“So, what do you think?” Rapunzel asked eagerly.
“I think...it looks good.”
“So you like it?
“Of course I like it.” He ran his hands over the fabric softly. He’d never had such fine clothes before. “And you’re right. This is a nice color,” he laughed lightly. He looked up at Rapunzel.
“Thank you, Princess.”
“You’re welcome, Varian,” she replied with a smile. She gave him a hug and she stuck around to listen to him talking about his further progress with his machine. When it was time to say goodbye, she waved and headed back to the castle. And for the rest of the day whenever Varian caught a glimpse of his reflection, he couldn’t help but smile.
***
Not too long after, Rapunzel decided to raise her kingdom’s spirits by bringing them together for a community project, namely to help rebuild the castle’s throne room after the Saporian attack had damaged it. Several members of the kingdom had volunteered to come, and Rapunzel was both surprised and delighted to see that Varian was one of them. Finally shaking off his fears of traveling to the capital city alone, he showed up at the castle with a backpack full of tools, ready to help.
“Hello, Varian! It’s good to see you out and about,” she said.
“Thanks. It’s good to be out and about. I know I’m a big part of why the throne room is damaged, and I’m sorry about that. But I’m ready to get to work rebuilding,” he replied.
“Well, thank you. I appreciate it. We can use all the help we can get.”
At that moment, Eugene entered the room and spotted Rapunzel talking to Varian. He looked him over in surprise.
“Varian! I like the new outfit! You’re looking sharp, buddy.”
“Thanks,” Varian replied with a smile. “New outfit, new day, new me.”
And it was true. The new, special clothes looked good on Varian, and not just because the color was nice. It was a different, more mature look and it reflected Varian’s growth, in more ways than one. It was still perfect for alchemy and inventing, he hadn’t lost that part of himself. He was still the same sweet boy he’d always been, but he was changed. He really was a new person, still with all his same quirks, but now he was bigger and stronger, and not just in size. His return to kindness had ushered in a new change, and change looked good.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed!

I Wish I Were Heather
Hello! Another varigo fanfiction! And it’s a songfic too ( Heather - Conan Gray). I’m kinda nervous to post this one because its got the first ever kiss scene I’ve written in it and I didn’t have time to edit it, sadly. But here!
Also can I just say I’m really grateful for the reception of my first one? Thank you so so much!
---------------------------------
Once you get to know him, Hugo isn’t so bad. At least that’s what Varian thinks. He knows there would be countless protests from Nuru about how “people like him never change” and that “he’s just conning us” but...Varian neglected to believe them. He trusted Hugo more than anything, especially after the blonde saved him during the trial in the Earth kingdom.
He should have listened to Nuru’s concerns. “It’s not safe.” she’d said. “There’s another way round, this way just isn’t safe!”, but he ignorantly brushed her worries aside. After all, the totem was right there. If he could just reach out and-
He felt himself stumble forward. His feet lost their grip on the floor. Falling. Once solid ground had seemingly disappeared from under him and he began his descent. Gloved hands reached out desperately for something, anything, to hold onto. And they found something.
Hugo’s worried face stared back at him, a previously unseen determination in his eyes as he gripped onto Varian’s arms with urgency and pulled him up as fast as he could. Varian steadied himself to stand on the platform after the ordeal. “That was close-” he began to say before his words were cut short. He was pulled into a tight embrace by Hugo, who was still unresponsive. It ended as quickly as it was initiated (much to Varian’s disappointment) as the older teen stood up and extended his arm, grabbing the totem and wordlessly turning away to leave.
Yong ran into his arms and held onto him, a steady flow of tears trailing down his cheeks as he gripped to Varian’s shirt so tightly as if he thought he’d magically disappear if he let go. He prepared himself for a scolding as Nuru made her way over, however all he received was a tight embrace from the princess. All he could focus on, however, was his saviour. Hugo looked down at him and gave a small reassuring smile. It was so much different from his usual smiles...it felt softer. With more meaning. Affectionate. Hugo then turned away, and Varian could feel his cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
“Okay, time to go. Hopefully goggles won’t decide to have another near death experience on the way to Lunaris.” The blonde called out smugly, heading to the exit of the trial. Huh. So back to normal it was, then. The others seemed to agree too, all breaking their embrace and following behind the older teen.
“Hey Nuru, are we gonna be there soon?” Yong complained from the back of Prometheus, Ruddiger curled up in his lap asleep. He usually rode on Prometheus with the others on foot, constantly complaining about his legs hurting or ankles hurting..not that it bothered anyone, of course. He was a joy to have around - always working on his fireworks and assisting Varian with his projects. Full of wonder and excitement. Just like he was before...well, everything.
“Yes Yong, we’ll be there in a few minutes!” the princess replied from where she was leading the group. Nuru, in many ways, was an extremely valuable member to their team, acting as the navigator and the diplomat to them. The only downside was she wasn’t too trusting, specifically of..
“Finally. You have no idea how much my legs are killing!” Hugo’s voice rang through his ears as he began to walk forward. Ah yes. Hugo. He was certainly a...character. Sure, he was rude, sarcastic and generally saw people as a way to get what he wants, but something about him made Varian feel all bubbly and flustered. It wasn’t that he was ugly either, with his undercut and sharp features and beautiful, emerald eyes...
“Earth to Hairstripe?” Hugo called out, waving a hand in front of his face. Varian flinched backwards with his face reddening and heating up upon realising he was staring. “Damn, get someone to paint a portrait of me. It’ll last longer and be marginally less creepy.” The blonde laughed, a wide smirk on his face. Yet again, Varian felt his face heat up (but from anger! DEFINITELY not from embarrassment!) and he rolled his eyes. “You wish I was staring at you. Cmon, let's just go.” He mumbled and picked up his pace, trying to distance himself from Hugo.
Within 10 minutes, they were in the city. Streets were bustling with carts set up akin to a makeshift market, with people weaving in and out of the streets. Children ran and played amongst themselves, Yong looking down on them from Prometheus’ back and desperate to join them. As they ventured further into the city, the number of people died out and allowed them a moment of silence amongst the chaos they’d arrived at. Varian tied up Prometheus in the town’s stables, setting down some apples for him to eat, with Ruddiger crawling onto his shoulders as they headed to the inn where the others were waiting.
What he was greeted with was...surprising to say the least.
Leaning against the counter was Hugo, seemingly small talking to a raven haired girl standing behind a counter. Her blue eyes shut and her head tilted back as she laughed at whatever he’d just said, a smile creeping onto the blonde’s face. Anger bubbled at the bottom of his stomach as he made his way over to the pair, a frown covering his features. Who even was this girl?
“Ah, goggles. Pleasure to finally see you show up.” Hugo started, smirking down at Varian. Varian raised his eyebrow and gestured to the girl on the other side of the counter. “This is Heather. She’s the owner of this fine establishment, and she’s invited us for a tour of town AND to see the fireworks celebrating the king’s birthday with her tomorrow. Amazing, right?” the other finished, resting his hand on top of Heather’s gently.
Heather nodded quickly and intertwined her fingers with Hugo’s. Varian bit the inside of his cheek, cringing at the metallic taste of blood quickly filling his mouth. “Oh yeah, definitely. Sounds..perfect.” he muttered before heading back over to sit with Nuru and Yong. As the two younger teens chattered, his gaze met Hugo and Heather again. They looked so happy..just those two talking. Hugo threw his head back in laughter and Varian felt his heart soar, but drop immediately after. It wasn’t fair. Why couldn’t he make Hugo react like that? Wait-why was he even feeling this way? What even WAS this feeling?
Varian groaned and stood up. “I’m going to my room.” he declared, taking his key from Nuru before she could protest and making his way past the seating area in the tavern to the dark oak stairs. Trekking up them, he walked down the hall to his room and immediately after unlocking it, he flopped back onto his bed. What was happening to him? Why was he so upset? Hugo was happy, and he should be too, so why did it feel like he was dying?
His mind drifted to Hugo and Heather. He had no reason to hate her - for all he knew, she’d done nothing wrong at all. He pulled a pillow close to his chest and curled up slightly, hugging it as tight as he could. Heather...she was beautiful. More beautiful than he was handsome. The kind of beautiful that only came about in a lifetime. Hugo deserved someone like her - someone just as beautiful as he was. Wait- since when did he think Hugo was beautiful? Varian shoved his face into the pillow and screamed into it in frustration and anger. When did he even think like this?
“I’m staying. This is my family. I want to stay here.” he’d addressed the group in the living room of his cousin’s shack as they all prepared to depart and begin to head to Lunaris. His uncle placed a hand on his shoulder, a slight smile on his face. But of course Hugo was the first to speak up.
“Really, Varian? You’re just gonna toss us aside like we don’t matter? What about your mother? Does that not matter to you either?” He spat, his anger and betrayal obvious on his face, his voice echoing off the thin, wooden walls. “After everything we’ve all done, you’re just leaving us? Yknow what- forget it. Yong, Nuru. Cmon. We have some trials to finish. Unlike some.” he added spitefully, turning on his heel and heading out of the door.
“What about us? Aren’t we your family?” Nuru asked, searching his eyes for something he couldn’t quite understand before she sighed and nodded, taking Yong’s hand. “I see how it is. Goodbye Varian.” she sighed and followed in Hugo’s footsteps, leaving the shack and pulling Yong along beside her.
He didn’t understand. He was with his family again. He could be happy. He belonged here. Why did he feel so empty? So alone? He finally found somewhere that appreciated and needed his skills so why did he feel more isolated and hurt than ever? His uncle’s voice broke his thoughts and he turned his head to look at him.
“You don’t have to choose. We’re always going to be here when you get back. But those friends of yours? You can tell that they love you. As much as they don’t want to admit it, they need you there with you. Whatever you choose, we’ll support you but..we’re always going to be here.”
Varian’s eyebrows furrowed in thought, at war with himself. Hugo’s face wouldn’t leave his mind - looking as though Varian had stabbed him and proceeded to twist the knife. It didn’t look right for Hugo to be sad. He was too beautiful to be sad. Nuru and Yong’s reaction didn’t make it any easier either...Varian paused for a second before making his final decision. Hastily, he picked his bag up from the floor along with Ruddiger, pausing only to look up at his uncle. “I’ll come back soon. I promise.” He swore, smiling and running across the creaking floor to the crunching dirt outside. If he ran fast enough, he could catch up with the others. Hopefully they’d let him join them again. He prayed they would.
Ah. So that’s when. Varian groaned and shoved the pillow back into its original place on the bed, his eyes fixated on the ceiling in silence. Stupid Hugo making him feel stupid feelings towards him. It wasn’t fair. An exhausted sigh left his lips as he lay back on the bed. Maybe it’d be different tomorrow?
Tomorrow, as it turns out, was not different. At all.
Their tour started off fun - Heather showing them landmarks in the city and talking about the history of the town. Varian tried to pay attention, he really did, but it was a strenuous task when all he could focus on was the way Hugo’s arm was around her. How he laughed when she made a joke and added the occasional quip here and there. It was a beautiful display to any outside, but to Varian…
It was suffocating.
It continued like that throughout the day. Hugo and Heather being all lovey-dovey while Varian felt himself slowly dying. She really did have him mesmerised, didn’t she? Another laugh sounded out from her, as he glanced over in their direction. “Hey, how about we go watch the fireworks?” Heather questioned, the others agreeing in unison. Slowly, they began the journey to Lachlan’s Hill.
The hill in question was on the outskirts of town, but it was apparently the best place to watch the fireworks from according to Heather. In all fairness, the view was stunning. The whole town was illuminated by lanterns and street lights. All he could focus on was the way Hugo and Heather cuddled and stayed close to each other, preparing for the fireworks display. It hurt Varian to no end. He let out another sigh, tears welling in his eyes as Hugo wrapped his jacket around her.
  That was the final straw.
Varian stood up, tears now rolling down his cheeks as he grabbed his things and stormed away. He didn’t bother to pay attention as the others told him to come back. He just wanted to go home. He couldn’t sit there and watch it anymore. He didn’t understand. It’s just polyester, he kept repeating to himself. It’s just polyester so why are you so upset? He slumped down by a tree, sliding to the floor with his back pressed against it. Only then did he let himself truly cry.
“Okay, what’s going on in that head of yours?” Hugo’s voice asked, low and dripping with concern as he sat beside the raven haired boy on the floor. Varian couldn’t even bring himself to look at the blonde, tears still running down his cheeks. “Varian please, talk to me-”
“Don’t you see what you’re doing to me, Hugo? How much it’s killing me to see you and her together?” He finally yelled out, interrupting the blonde mid-sentence. “My god, Hugo! To see her laughing and smiling with your arm around her and not a care in the world..it hurts! Seeing you two together feels like a- a stab to the gut! And it sucks because I can’t even hate her! She’s too perfect! She’s everything you deserve, because even though you’re a fucking asshole most of the time, you deserve the best girl in the world!”
“Varian-” Hugo tried to interject, but he kept on going. Days of pent up jealousy and anger rearing its ugly head.
“I see why as well! I see why you love her so much and why she loves you so much! She’s so much prettier than me. I don’t even see why you’d ever kiss me, because I’m not even half as beautiful as she is. I just- I WISH I WERE HEATHER!” He yelled out in Hugo’s face, finishing his rambling.
Hugo and Varian sat in a shocked silence, their eyes locked before Hugo reached out and intertwined their fingers silently. Gently, he pulled Varian closer to him and raised his hand to his lips before pressing a kiss to his knuckles gently. “I wish you were Heather too.” he whispered under his breath as Varian stared at him with wide eyes.
“I..what?” Varian questioned, moving closer to Hugo with his eyes still fixated on the taller male. He was lost for words - how could Hugo feel the same as he did? It just-didn’t make any sense to him at all. He let himself be pulled closer still by Hugo, their chests flush against each other as they looked into each other’s eyes again in silence. Hugo hesitantly broke the silence.
“I love you, Varian. I really do, but I didn’t think you’d like me back. So I met Heather and she just...she reminded me so much of you. The black hair, blue eyes...tiny build-” He laughed slightly as Varian punched his arm. “What I mean to say is...I was trying to pretend that she was you this whole time. And that I love you.”
“I love you too, Hugo.” Varian said with a wide smile, tilting his chin up with his tears stopping. Hugo gently tilted Varian’s chin up, leaning in quietly. Finally their lips met and....nothing Varian had ever experienced could come close to the sensation. They moved against each other like it was just meant to be, in sync and in harmony. Hugo’s hand snaked around his waist as Varian’s arms wrapped around his neck slowly to pull each of them even closer than they were before.
Eventually, Hugo broke the kiss to take in a breath. “Well, hairstripe. How about we head back and watch the fireworks?” He held out his hand, which he graciously took and let Hugo guide him back to the blanket. After taking a seat on the blanket they’d laid out prior, Hugo put his arm around Varian and pulled him closer.
And for the first time in forever...Varian was content to live in the moment.

(4/10) Child and Teenager Ulla - Part 2
Quick fanart made in hurried moments xD
Tumblr media
Let's continue were I left uvu
< Before :
1.- Okey, Faber family stayed the night at the metal kingdom, on a cheap hostal, was this a bad desition?, maybe, was people there waiting for them to sleep to rob them? maybe, why should they think the worst from these people ? That's unpolite and prejudiced , they should have some faith on people.
2.- Either way, dad (let's call him Tenax, latin word for tenacious) stayed awake the whole night while his wife and twins were asleep, and it was curious, he catched how much the door and window was softly forced open until he softly closed it back , even a "secret" entrance on the closet were there was supposed to be a safety box (maybe stealed and broken before then came here of course), also de bathroom drawer had a secret entrance he gently closed time to time.
3.- It would had be funny, like a comedy book about a thief failing all his tries, but he was nervous, what if this was not a sole thief but a group? What if they get tired of playing soft and prepare a stronger ambush ? What if he has to figth or surrender in front of his kids and wife ?
4.- None of that happened, and the light of the day reached the room, thankfully, whoever wanting to enter the room was tranquil enough to not call out a fight.
5.- The rest woke up and got ready to search something to breakfast, daddy doesn't look sleeping but kind of in high alert, he says they shouldn't stay too much, so better have breakfast in the next town, in their way to the rich wall separation, they got greeted by a child beggar and were asked for some coins.
6.- Dad said sorry and encouraged his family to keep walking, the child beggar insisted and started to beg, so, mom (let's name her Holda, germanic female name meaning "hidden" ) took some coins from her purse to give them, the beggar thanked her and walked away, gave a signal and more beggars started to walk/run to them asking for more coins.
7.- That felt like an ambush done by kittens, now mom had to give away all the coins on her purse , trying to give only one to each kid, but the disorder started when one of the beggars wanted more than one, and next, when the purse had no more money, dad wanted them to keep walking and ignore the beggars, they had enough, but one of them accused the lady for lying and having more money saved .
8.- And then this became a true ambush, the beggars started to try and rob her purse, next open up their suitcases, and try to rob them too, but between beggars they were fighting over who got coins first, the twins tried to ask politely to stop but they wouldn't, dad told them to leave the things and follow mom to the door.
9.- They obeyed and mom took their hands to walk away, then run because they felt how street teenagers got out to watch what the fuss was about, they needed to get out of here, and as she feared, another group of people started to get closer, they were making fun of her and her family, typical foreigners.
Anddddddd why am I too especific with this xD??? This is supposed to be a Summary I should had posted last week
Tumblr media
Whatever
10.- They got out safely, well, the dad, without his family on sight, used a little excess of strength to retrieve the bags and suitcases the beggars were ... Robbing? , lots of years of work on them, the coins were lost , but the other stuff , trinkets , maps and tools , were left behind and retrieved.
11.- The family agreed , they would go back sometime to search the trial , starting with the borders and not the city and not the downtown, they have lots of progress thanks to a kind of soil scanner mom created years ago, she also teaches her twins how to operate it (the same Varian would use years after to research the path of the red rocks)
12.- There is a curious girl, older than the twins , who wants to try and join their search, her name is Donella, not very social, but she was welcomed, of course, the parents were wary, but the twins were euphoric about adding a new friend, she would ask if they were archeologists, but the answer was that they all were alchemist.
13.- Donella supposedly goes back home every day and next morning visits them again to keep helping searching the trial temple, but later they discover and she confess she doesn't really has a home, in Ingvarr downtown, as soon as a child reachs 10 years old, they are kicked out the house to search a job and live in their own, why? Maybe because money is not enough, thypical families there only can afford school until the kid reaches 8 or 10.
14.- Faber family kind of adopts her, during they stay on this kingdom, she sleeps with mom and Ulla, Ulf is confused, why suddenly he isn't allowed to sleep with his twin ? , dad explains the best way he can, how come girls and boys are supposed to be on separated rooms since the beginning, but they spared them from that lots of years, now they are hosting a girl, separation is a must.
15.- Ulf since this day, is resigned to get more distant from his twin and more closer to his dad, he becomes clingy to Ulla and she becomes clingy to Ulf during free time after dinner and before going to bed, but they also maturely (or they think they look mature) accept they have to go to separate tents for sleeping.
16.- Now Ulla and Donella are becoming close friends, like water and oil, very different but together, they finally find the temple and start the excavation until the whole door entrance is visible, everyone is happy, except Don , who doesn't get how come this is supposed to be a big discover.
17.- They assumed the desire of discover antiques was something global, but they wasted no time and infodumped her about how this was a big deal, and her eyes started to shine at the implications of this, fame, glory, MONEY and power.
18.- If course, they would give more priority to the knowledge and the use for this in order to improve the whole civilization around them, high quality services and happy people surrounded by innovation, Donella wouldn't share that desire, she has no love for the community who send everyone to the mines with no care just for having the money for their self sustaining and self pleasure.
19.- After they -
Oups , I have to go, thanks for reading 🌸🌺 see you around

YOURS. does your muse get protective easily?
Very easily. Varian has lost all but one person in his family. He’s very protective of Anduin, provoked or not. I think this protectiveness would extend to any self chosen family, like Valeera, Broll, and perhaps most intensely for Jaina. She has lost everything he has and, until BFA, had absolutely no acknowledged blood family she could speak with. This rings strongly with Varian, and I doubt he could help himself, though he’d have to be careful not to look overbearing. He admires Jaina’s independence and wouldn’t want to do anything to change it.

20. What-ifs/Alternate Timelines 21.Turning points in their life and 22. People who’ve influenced them greatly
Pry into their secrets! || @kcystotheheart
Tumblr media
{What if Eugene, as prince of The Dark Kingdom, somehow ended up possessing the powers of the Moonstone Opal like Rapunzel and the Sundrop Flower? I’m still trying to figure out just how it would happen, but a prince with immense destructive powers would surely be sought after by some unsavory folk and so for his protection, his father keeps him locked up in a tower or something somewhere. He doesn’t grow 70 feet of magical hair, but he’d still end up growing up in isolation only having contact with the Brotherhood and his father if anyone.
The day he met Rapunzel was of course the biggest turning point in his life, as she was the one that made him want to be a better person. Sure, he was irritated by her at first, but he quickly came to respect her and even trust her. Rapunzel is the reason he is who he is today, and he would never change a thing about that day.
Going with Rapunzel again, since she’s the one that helped him drop his arrogant persona as she was able to see almost immediately through that act and see that there was a genuinely kind heart inside of him. She brought out the empathetic, selfless, caring person that he truly is, and while he still does tend to ‘preen’ and put on a bit of a pompous air, he is always quick to drop it all if someone he cares about needs support.}
Tumblr media
{What if Varian stayed a villain and ended up joining forces with Cass? An alchemist and a girl in control of the Moonstone Opal; just think of how horrifying that could be! He’d been studying the black rocks to find a way to destroy them, so what if he started to find a way to strengthen them and make them more dangerous?
When he went with his father to see the king about the rocks in Old Corona village, just to hear his father lie about it all. He can’t wrap his head around why he would lie to the king about the danger the village was in, and that’s what made him try harder, and act quicker, in finding a way to destroy the black rocks, which soon led to accidentally encasing his father in amber.
Rapunzel has had a great impact on him. Even when he threatened her kingdom, kidnapped her mother, and was ready to kill everyone she knew and loved, ready to erase everyone’s memories, she still believed in him. She was upset with his actions, yes, but she was insistent that he be treated well and given help while he was imprisoned in the castle jail. Even when he and the Saporians had erased some of her parents and were trying to erase everyone’s memories, she still tried to assure him that he could turn back and that he could be forgiven. It would take time, yes, but it wasn’t too late for him; he still had a chance, and in turn, he extends those same sentiments to Cassandra when she goes down a path of darkness herself.}
Tumblr media
{What if Rapunzel and Eugene switched roles? He’s the Lost Prince and she’s the dashing thief that accidentally breaks into the tower he’s locked inside of? Or it can even be in the one I mentioned with Eugene, where he’s locked up because he has the powers of the Moonstone Opal, and she either comes upon him by accident, or sought out The Dark Kingdom intending to steal the opal, only to find out the opal itself is now powerless, as the magic now resides within the prince~
What point in her life hasn’t been a big turning point for her? The day she left the tower is perhaps the most pivotal one, as that’s when she met Eugene and learned the truth of who she is, eventually being reunited with her real family.
Sadly, Gothel had a huge impact on her life, as she was raised to be more a servant than anything, so she struggles to properly fulfill her duties as a princess, often forgetting or just otherwise being unaware of certain customs and rules that a princess is supposed to follow. Of course, people in Corona love her the way she is, as she is also a very compassionate and thoughtful person.}

Family. What are Valeera's views on family, constellations like a nuclear family? Is it something she'd wish for, even though she's not actively pursuing it? What would make someone part of her family, or does she outright reject the idea of it?
@embercrested // send me a topic to write a meta about my muse – accepting
I don’t think Valeerathinks all that much about families. She is somewhat jealous of therelationship Varian and Anduin have with each other, but that’s mitigated by howcomplex their relationship is and the less-than-ideal ones shewitnesses between others like Genn and Tess. Through them, she can see thatfamilies are no less fallible than other relationships between people. Therefore, however much she might like to have her parents back, she is aware that they are unlikely to fulfill any sentimental notions of family.
You’re absolutelyright in that family is not something Valeera is actively pursuing, and as in myprevious post, she is reluctant to enter close relationships like that becausethey might come to threaten her independence and the commitments she has madeto others. Nevertheless, Valeera does think about some people in her life whoare not related to her as family, suggesting that she does not believe those units to exist exclusively between blood relations. She calls Broll her father and brother, and everything we see from Broll’s point of view suggests that he views Valeeraas his daughter —— when he dreams of his daughter, he also dreams ofValeera, and his desire to protect Valeera throughout the comics parallels Varian’sdesire to protect Anduin.
I think the fact that Valeera has lost her parentswhile Broll lost his daughter facilitates them rapidly developing that perspective ofone another, and I think it was also somewhat helped by the fact that they’reboth elves, even though they’re not the same kind of elf and even though thekind of elves they make them antagonistic towards each other at times. Eventually, Valeera would come to view Varian and Anduin as her family aswell, but in less explicit terms than she does with Broll becausethey are not elves and because they don’t have holes in their lives thatcorrespond with Valeera’s like Broll does.
Although she doesn’t outright reject the idea, it wouldtake much longer for Valeera to view anyone else like family, if she ever does. Thecircumstances surrounding Varian and Broll’s introduction into Valeera’s life wereexceptional. The three of them lived in a small cage together for weeks and savedeach other’s lives multiple times both as gladiators and after they escaped. They were forced to rely on each other in a way that Valeera is never compelledto rely on anyone after that, and Varian and Broll saw parts of Valeera thatshe will never show to anyone else. Nothing will ever come close to replicatingthat experience, and so the trust and familiarity it forged between the three of them (whichthen extend to Anduin as Varian’s son) will never be replicated.

How High Up This Mountain Rises:
(For @tangledadventures Varian Appreciation Week Day 2: Featuring the Co-Ladies in Waiting. I wrote this before the latest episode, so Cass is not evil.)
Summary: Varian adjusts to his new, reforming life with the help of Cassandra.
.
.
.
There was something almost funny about it all. In the space of a few months- maybe a year or two- home had changed from one place to another, only to return to where it had once been, now just a little bit different... Perhaps a little too different, as Varian was quickly beginning to think. His home lab looked more like a memory than something tangible. Its faded wooden table and empty beakers felt like childhood toys. Old, forgotten, lost somewhere between then and now...
"Varian! There you are!" Cassandra called,
Out of habit, the young boy automatically tensed up and wheeled around, expecting to find the tip of a sword or an angered expression meet him. Instead, he found her- a look of forced neutrality etched onto her lovely face. The look alone sent a shiver down Varian's spine... The knowledge that she would most likely never look at him how she once did made him feel uneasy.
"Sorry, I was just- reminiscing." Varian muttered, casting a quick glance down towards an empty crate.
He was under strict orders to pack up his things to make room in the house for the incoming occupants. His father finally being one of them, and the other-
A former inmate. A thief who Varian never expected to make an acquaintance with- but heck, most of the people in his life now were people he never in a million years expected to associate with. Hector and maybe  Adira would've outranked the thief on his list of wackjobs if not for the fact that they knew his father.
But an inmate from the castle's very own prison- it just helped to further cement the gravity of Varian's situation. To many he was still a terrorist of the kingdom and the reality was that his "freedom" was nothing more than an extended parol disguised as a royal pardon from the princess herself...
Not that it changed much anyhow. 'Free' or not, there was still damage that needed to be undone... Part of Varian hoped it would start today with Cass.
"... I can't help you with the move if you don't pack up first." Her cool tone brought him back down once again. "Rap said she'd be by in about an hour to help with the move-"
"Thanks Cass." Varian muttered, gingerly picking up and placing a glass vial into the crate. "I don't have a lot to pack up. I planned on throwing most of this away."
"Your lab? That doesn't sound like you." Cass quipped, running her gloved hand over a dusty shelf.
"Someone else needs this room, and- Its kinda part of the deal." Varian shrugged, "The princess lets bygones be bygones, and I never practice my craft again."
"Ouch..." A grimace tore across Varian's mouth without him having to think of it. Cass must have seen it, as she then quickly added, "I mean- its nice of you to give up your home lab and all that for- whomever."
"Bandit... She was my- prison mom? I guess." Another shrug, and two more glass bottles were placed besides the first one. "Dad figured letting her stay here was the least we could do since she took care of me while we were incarcerated... Thats such a weird thing to say."
"O-oh..."
He could feel an awkward silence approaching that he wasn't prepared for. So with a deep breath, he continued to speak.
"If giving up who I am means we can all be free in this house together, then I can't say I mind." There.
"That sounds like it'll be a nice arrangement." A small smile formed on Cass' face. The first show of geuine kindess he had seen from her in a long time... It felt like the first flower of spring after a long, hard winter.
"Y-yeah. It should be."
An uncomfortable silence fell between the two and Varian felt his heart rate picking up again. He once again felt like Cass was his judgement, looming over and watching him, waiting for him to mess up again and strike him down once and for all.
"Let me help with that." Her voice wasn't what surprised him, but rather the way she so casually sat down beside him.
Without a show of fear or resentment, she took the glass he was holding from his hand and placed it carefully down besides the rest. If he had been anyone else, Varian would go as far as to say that the act almost seemed friendly. In a sense, that was.
"It'll go by faster if we both pack up." Cass went on, "Then we can move the new stuff in."
"R-right."
Slowly, one by one, the memories of that room were stripped away. All his projects and works in progress were disgarded, either in a bin for storage or a sack for garbage. Books upon shelves and tables were removed, dusted off, and set aside for when they'd be taken away and donated to the local library. However, despite how rapidly empty the room was becoming, Varian couldn't feel it. There was no sadness or melancholy to be felt. This room held no place in his heart anymore. It was the root of a very large tree he had planted and let grow out of control.
"Okay. Thats everything then." Cass called, the sound of a bin scraping across the floor echoing off of the now bare walls. "Now we just have to put-"
"I know." Varian cut in, startling himself with how weary his own voice sounded. "... I just need a minute."
"To say goodbye to this room?" Cass asked, and for once she sounded concerned for him again.
"No... Just a break." Varian hummed, lowering himself to sit on the floor. "This is someone else's place now... Maybe the root of a new beginning or something..."
"That's a good way of putting it." Cass mused as she took long strides over to him and parked herself on the floor besides him. "Thats a very mature way to look at this..."
"No. Its the only way to look at this."
"...Who knows. Maybe it'll be your new beginning." Cass sighed. "A bigger family, a fresh start at life..."
"I don't know how a "pardon" equals a clean slate, but I suppose."
"Hey, I didn't say a clean slate. I said a fresh start." Cass huffed. "Like putting on a new shirt or washing a towel. The old one will never be cleaned fully again, but its less dirty than what it was."
The moment she stopped speaking, he felt it. Something he hadn't felt in a very long time. The bubble you get in your chest when a geunine laugh is coming on. Despite it being short, this particular laugh still rattled his ribs and made him feel something again.
"... That is the worst analogy I have ever heard."
"... Shut up and take your break. Raps will be here any minute."
There was a pause.
"... Thank you, Cass."

Royal Headcanons
Tumblr media
((This was inevitable to say the least. It begins with a few fics, then it goes to headcanons, and then I start investing a lot of my time essentially building the characters. Oh well! Shot out to @haleth who started this, and to @drew-winchester for drawing this piece. I wanna thank Haleth for essentially being the nicest Swiss I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I don’t claim to know the character’s myself, this is just what I thought might be how they met, fell in love, and various other things. I hope you enjoy!))
This would be the first time she and Varian officially met.
After the defeat of Saurfang’s son, Zireael would offer to help the orc with carrying his son to the ship. When asked by Varian why she would extend her kindness like that, she shrugs and says, “Because a father shouldn’t see the day he outlived his son.”
After the fight at the top of the Icecrown Citadel, she and her fellow adventurers were adorned with medals of bravery, honor, loyalty, and heroism.
(personal headcanon: BOTH faction heroes defeated the lich king at the same time. I mean, c’mon.)
She and her Alliance teammates were invited to a party in Stormwind Keep.
Not really finding comfort with wearing dresses, she showed up in her armor. Zireael was easily the most stand out woman there.
This caught the king’s attention though
(I mean, he’s used to nobles trying to sell themselves off to him in fancy dresses and pretty jewelry like everyday. So something completely different was very welcoming.)
Their friendship began with a debate on which is better: sword and shield or greatsword that turns into dual blades.
They didn’t immediately start dating, as Varian wanted to focus on being a good dad for his son. The night elf would respect his wishes, and even help the boy with swinging a sword.
The two sparring was Varian’s attempt at a date, as the poor man was not like his charismatic half at all.
The two eventually bonded over their shared enjoyment of a good fight, sometimes even getting a few cuts in!
One of their most intense fights ended with Varian disarming Ziri and pinning her to a wall. In a very strange mixture of hormones during the fight, the two would share their first kiss with each other.
It did not end with just a kiss~
The two spent more time around each other that wasn’t just fighting. The two would talk strategy, the best kind of parties, what noble to avoid, and how to best handle guards in the city.
Anduin is actually pretty supportive of his dad going out and seeing someone. Everyone needs to find someone.
The two had their cons as well, Ziri’s love for nature has caused Varian waking up to a garden in his room... multiple times.
During the Hour of Twilight raid, Zireael would be stopped by Varian. He proposes to her on the spot, saying “To give you a better reason to come back to me alive.”
She does make it back, and the two would hold each other in a loving embrace.
Anduin doesn’t see her as his mom, but definitely sees her as someone to respect. Especially since she makes his father incredibly happy.
The wedding would be planned, and originally was going to be at Darnassus until Pandaria was discovered.
The wedding was postponed until Anduin was found, since he’s lost a uncharted continent!
Ziri suggested she’d go, but was advised against by everyone. No one needed the soon to be wife of Varian to disappear too!
Luckily, Anduin was found, and the monstrous old god was defeated. Everything seemed well...
However, they got involved when Garrosh went bat sh*t insane and tried to kill everyone!
Ziri actually got to participate in this one, as she helped the heroes fight Corrupted Garrosh.
Before Garrosh’s trial, Zireael suggested the wedding be held in Pandaria. The continent had so much to deal with these past years(in game) that it only made sense that something positive could come to it.
The wedding went off without a cinch! Zireael Starsong became known as Zireael Wrynn.
Unfortunately honeymoon had to wait because of f*cking Garrosh was at it again!
Unfortunately again, Zireael had to keep out of this one again! The difference is less of the Queen of Stormwind in danger, and more of her being pregnant.
(Side note: I’m not familiar with royal succession thing, so to make it easier on myself: Zireael would be given the responsibilities of  leading Stormwind in case of the king’s demise. Anduin is next in line, but if anything happened to him, Ziri’s baby would then inherit the throne.)
She’d be the quest giver instead of the adventurer this time. She did not care for it.
Draenor was finished, Azeroth was at peace, and Ziri could finally enjoy her time with her new family.
Until Legion happened. That is a story for another day...

* Azriel and Leda's Story
Where can I begin with Echo ... Full disclosure in the beginning, Echo is heavily inspired by Wonder Woman, which I already hinted when I made Gal Gadot the fancast for Echo in the Family aesthetic. ... I must admit that I don't really think of her that much, so it will probably not as long as Ari or Art.
Echo is an Idol to younger and older female Illyrians. She is unbeatable, powerful, compassionate and graceful. Every Illyrian or other Warrior who challenged her got defeated by her. She can bring Cassian flat on his back every time they fight. Azriel and Cassian couldn't be prouder everytime she does it. No one ever defeated her, but only after she finished the Bloodrite.
Before that Echo was like everybody else new in the camp. She didn't really knew how to fight. Sure she knew a few things because of her family, but nothing that would give her any kind of advantages. She still was really excited to start training with Ari, but also a little sad, since Aurelia wasn't with them. These three were nearly inseparable when they were together. But Echo learned that the Camps weren't as easy or "fun" as she thought they would be. Especially the belittling to females, was something Echo shocked and offended by. So Echo and Ari decided that they would show them that females are just as good or sometimes even better than Males. And they got a lot of help from Marcella - Art's Friend and future General Commander. She trained females at the Camp and took Echo and Ari directly under her wing. Marcella was the Strongest Illyrian before Echo dethroned her. And Marcella wasn't even mad about. She is actually really proud of Echo, because Echo and Ari kinda are like the little sisters she never had.
Echo trained and trained and worked really hard to get good at fighting. And she learned fast that she had an affinity to it. She was/is a quick learner when it comes to combat. She is also quick-thinking, resourceful, fast-adapting and cunning in combat and battles. And so she fast tracked to be one of the best. And after the Bloodrite she is the undisputable and undefeatable Best™.
While Echo loves fighting, especially in a fun sparing situation, she never actually actively seeks out conflicts. But she will not turn down a challenge. And she will kick your ass into the next week.
Her status as "The Undefeatable" is not the only factor that makes her the Best™, but also that she needs to use 10 Siphons to use her magic to it's full extent.
Fun story: In the beginning they only gave her 7 like her dad, and that was ok at first. But a few months later, while trying to use a lot of her magic, half of the Siphons shattered. And Az, who was training her at that moment, quickly concluded that 7 were not enough for Echo and her magic. So they quickly contacted Rhys who then contacted the Illyrians. (I don't know how they decide who gets how many or even who gives it to them, I just pretend they have a kinda like consul or something in Illyria where they decide and measure the new recruits.) Rhys gave them the info that they miscalculated Echo and she got newly measured and equipped. Her Test results positively shocked the whole Family. Since before Echo, 7 and 8 (Marcella and Nikos (Art's best friend, future Commander of the Illyrian army and Marcella's future Husband) were unheard of, but Echo brought it into a new high with 10 Siphons. Azriel and Leda (and everyone else) were so proud. Their Little Wonder just got to be the new Recordholder and Strongest in Combat and in Illyrian-Magic.
Echo is more like Azriel in personality and more like her mother in looks. Echo looks also very similar to Azriel's mother.
When she was little Echo was a shy child, especially around strangers and in public. She liked to hid behind whoever of her family she was standing closest to or she hid her face in whoever was holding her. They always needed a few minutes to coax her out of it and greet the one she was hiding from.
She also wasn't really good in making friends on her own. Echo mostly just followed Ari and Aura around and both were bubbly little girls and made friends on their own. Echo was mostly just a plus-one with almost every other friendship. (Like "i am only friends with you if you are friends with Echo as well, otherwise I wouldn't be your friend since Echo is way better than you" situation with Aura and Ari) But that didn't bother Echo at all. In Echo's mind Ari and Aura and the rest of the family were more than enough.
Over Time Echo lost her shyness, especially in the Camps. But she still is an introvert who would rather be alone or with only a few loved ones most of the time. Not she has something against being with other people for a short period of time, but if there is a choice between doing something alone or with a lot of people, Echo will choose the former.
And like Azriel, Echo is quiet and introverted, but like her mother, Echo likes fighting and being in the spotlight. Echo had nothing against it if attention is on her. She sometimes prefers it to being ignored.
Leda and Azriel are/were glad that their daughter inherited Leda's singing voice. Echo has no problem with singing in front of a lot of people, but only after she grow out of her shyness. Because when she was little, she most of time refused to speak let alone sing in front of strangers. Even singing in front of extended family, especially when all were there, was something Echo didn't really like doing. But alone with only Az and Leda, she would sing loud, boldly, a lot, sometimes out of tune and sometimes complete non sense. Making up her own songs on the go, while twirling and jumping and dancing around their apartment. She also preferred lullabies over Goodnight-stories.
Echo is also very kind and generous, she likes to help people. Especially the ones that really need it. Children love Echo and Echo loves Children, so she taught a lot of young Illyrian children in the Camps. She thaught them basic moves in Combat, how to read your opponent and their movements, how to take care of yourself without depending too much on others, basic survival skills, how treat females, different Fae races, humans, and others with respect, and most importantly confidence in themselves.
A lot little Children - Male and Female - had her as their Role model, Idol, or/and Hero. Most of them still have her as that. And they love to brag to the others, who so unfortunate not to get taught by her - for various different reasons -, that they had "The Undefeatable" Frickin Echo as their teacher.
Echo is an Icon and Inspiration for the Illyrians, especially the younger generations. The younger generations love her and sometimes "worship" her/ "fangirl" over her. Azriel is happy that the Illyrians at least treat his daughter with the respect and admiration she deserves.
I think that's all for now. If you have any questions regarding Echo or anyone else, please feel free to ask, I would love to answer them.
