Ranking Jane Austen heroes/men on how good of a father they’d be?
I have faith that all of them would be good fathers. After all, Jane Austen clearly knows what bad fathers look like and she is pretty harsh about them (rightfully). I think all of them would be good in different ways, so instead of ranking, here is their dad type:
Fitzwilliam Darcy: Providing dad, his love language is buying his children expensive toys and praising their accomplishments to relations. He is definitely involved in education and discipline. Wee bit overprotective of his daughters, but you get it, he has valid reasons. Gives his sons handshakes instead of hugs.
Charles Bingley: Fun dad, he's not sure about this whole 'parenting' part... but Baby Charles, did you see this cool rock? Do you want to go up on Daddy's shoulders so you can see the elephant? Do you want to see Daddy's fencing swords? (Oh, good point Jane, we'll put those away for a few years...)
Frederick Wentworth: Teamwork dad, he knows that Anne could totally handle everything herself, but he's not afraid to help. He feels confident removing a toddler from someone's back after all. Occasionally cannot figure out what to do and stares helplessly at his wife.
George Knightley: Nurturing dad DOES BABY GEORGE NEED ANOTHER BLANKET? DOES HE NEED A SNACK? BABY GEORGE, IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOUR PRESENT COMFORT??? (No, Mr. Knightley, he's fine.)
Colonel Brandon: Affectionate dad, he cries when any of his children hits a major milestone. He feels the need to constantly hug and kiss his children. They are miracles, all of them are miracles, and he is going to make them happy and what happened to him and Eliza will never happen again! They need another hug
Edward Ferrars: Thoughtful dad, constantly thinking about what will make his children feel happy and loved. Encourages them to follow their dreams. Has minor panic attacks if he says or does anything that remotely reminds him of his own mother. Elinor assures him regularly that he's doing an excellent job (because he is).
Edmund Bertram: Interactive dad, takes time to discuss their lessons and answer questions. Very anxious about his children's moral education. Will take the time to draw lines on their letter paper. Will never admit he's wrong even when he makes a mistake.
Henry Tilney: Perfect dad, like honestly, have you met him? He's a 10/10, all the best parenting traits rolled into one man. AND YET, his oldest son thinks he's totally lame.
Bonus: Frank Churchill left his child at Kensington Gardens once twice, but Jane never found out so it doesn't count.
Bonus bonus: Robert Martin totally has a mini-me son who rides beside him on a pony.

Project Christmas Match Up
“Honestly, Derek, you need to add some kind of decorations for her. Maybe a Christmas tree or offer to hang up Christmas lights. This is my favorite client of yours and I rather not lose her,” Penelope said. She held a glass of white wine in one had and gestured wildly with the other hand.
Derek sighed. He had his feet resting on the coffee table as Penelope talked eagerly. She was dressed in Christmas pajamas and went the extra mile of convincing him to match her as well. Spencer, when he walked in, smirked knowingly when he clocked their matching outfits.
“Pen, I’m not going to hound the client. She bought the house and was gracious enough to invite us over for dinner there. I love you, my love, but that doesn’t mean we have to be friends with every client that I get.”
Penelope rolled her eyes, throwing Spencer a look akin to a life raft. “He’ll agree with me,” she said, pointing at Spencer. He held his glass of brandy in his right hand and a jar of trail mix in the other. “He always agrees with me.”
“I do,” Spencer said sheepishly, dodging the popcorn that Derek threw at him playfully, “Hey! I mean, it’s Penny, Derek. Besides, who’s this client that she wants you to bring a Christmas tree to?”
“Oh, Spencer,” Penelope said with a twinkle in her eye, “She’s absolutely perfect. She’s a librarian. Bought the house specifically because there’s this little porch to the side that’s almost all windows. She said it’s perfect for reading all day on the weekends. Oh! And she has cats. They are the absolute cutest things in the world.”
“As you can see,” Derek said, “My wife has a crush on my client.” He said with a chuckle that turned into an exaggerated groan when Penelope elbowed him in his side.
“She sounds great.” Spencer said, “Uh, what library does she work at?” He asked, tossing a couple pieces of trail mix into his mouth.
“The Westfield Public Library,” Penelope said, “You know the one that you bring Henry to all the time for storytime and those STEM workshops.” She smirked as Derek rolled his eyes.
“You’re so smooth,” Derek joked, giving Penelope a side glance. “Penelope seems to think that you and Y/N would be, in her words, ‘totally perfect, totally soulmates, so in love that it makes everyone look like they hate each other.’ She’s rather confident in her abilities,” Derek finished. Penelope slipped into his side comfortably as she sipped on her wine.
“Y/N?” Spencer bit his lip nervously. “She’s the children’s librarian who runs storytime and…”
“STEM workshops?” Penelope finished, a gleam in her eye revealing she was hiding more than she knew, “Come on, Spence. She’s perfect for you. She named her freaking cats after literary characters. Her book collections, if her being totally adorable and pretty and smart and kind isn’t enough for you to love her then that’s totally going to make you crumble.”
“So she’s talked about me?” Spencer said, a blush peppering his cheeks. If Penelope or Derek called it out, he would have to blame the brandy. Because the alternative would be too much to bear. “Like just randomly, out of the blue?”
“So you do like her,” Penelope giggled, “See, Der. I told you they’d be perfect. I mean, tell him how she gushed about him the other day when the inspector came over. She made him mini freaking tarts, Spence. You have a sweet tooth! See that’s another reason why you two are just perfect for each other. Tell him, baby.” Penelope prodded as Derek held his hands up in protest.
Derek stood up much to Penelope’s annoyance and Spencer’s alarm. “I’ve decided to stay out of my wife’s matchmaking. But I will say that Spencer’s ears are turning red, which means he’s got a crush.”
Spencer’s face morphed into shock and embarrassment. His cheeks tinged further red and any attempt at hiding his feelings about Y/N proved to be futile. Spencer sipped his brandy, desperately hoping he would be able to cling to some level of calmness as his friends discussed his love life at length.
“She’s nice, I suppose. I mean she’s really good with the kids at storytime. And she knits sweaters for Virginia Woolf and Emily Dickinson.” Spencer continued, turning his head to the side as Derek and Penelope casted him looks of confusion. “She, uh, smells nice too. Like peaches and mango.”
“Those are her cats. The cats that are named after literary figures.”
Penelope slapped Derek playfully on his well-defined arm, “He knows the names of her cats. They’ve talked about knitting cat sweaters. He thinks about her being good with kids. He thinks she smells nice. Like freaking peaches. Peaches, Der! Come on, Derek. It’s all I want for Christmas. My metaphorical baby brother deserves the best person in the world. And that’s Y/N.”
“We both know that’s not the only present you want, angel face.” Derek told Penelope. “Dude,” Derek said, turning to Penelope“I get you’re scared or whatever that you’re not enough for her. Or anyone,” he continued, “But she’ll be the lucky one if you ask me.”
Spencer’s lips turned upward in a hesitant smile. “I’m going to have to disagree with that one.” He drank the rest of his brandy, “And I’m going to need another one of these before I fully agree with Penelope’s scheming.”
Tumblr media
Penelope told him what to wear.
Spencer reluctantly agreed, knowing his friend well enough to understand that it wasn’t worth the wrath of Penelope Garcia. He tugged at his tie, a chocolatey brown argyle pattern with maroon accents. She instructed him to wear a light pink button down shirt and brown corduroy pants with it because it brought out his eyes.
The winter chill seemed to go right through him. So even though Penelope didn’t tell him with a sweater or cardigan to wear it with, Spencer decided to pull out his coziest one. It was dark brown and complimented his pants, shirt, and tie without being too matchy.
Spencer couldn’t remember a time when he paid so much attention to his appearance. He hardly got hit on when did frequent bars, especially if he tagged along with Derek. For a majority of his life, Spencer found himself indifferent to his appearance. But as he stood on Y/N’s porch stoop, he couldn’t think about anything but how his hair looked or if teeth were too crooked or if his tie looked like something an old widower would wear to bingo in the church basement.
Luckily, the door opened, letting out the warmth and light from the house, before Spencer’s mind could spiral down more.
“There you are,” Y/N said, “I was beginning to think that I got stood up completely.” She said with a smile. Y/N wiped her hands on the cloth napkin she held as she ushered Spencer inside.
“Hi, Y/N.” Spencer smiled. “Here’s something for you. It’s small, but I saw it at Goode’s Used Books and thought about you.”
“You thought about me, Dr. Reid,” Y/N whispered, taking the carefully wrapped package in her hands, “I have to say that’s quite the compliment coming from you. And your wrapping skills. I just might want to keep you around forever.”
Spencer’s heart just about stopped. He felt it leap out of his chest and land directly into Y/N’s hands. He let her hold it, praying to whatever deity of love and passion that she’d hold it like a treasure.
“Uh, wrapping presents is just basic math. It’s geometry.” Spencer explained. He held his coat over one arm as he watched Y/N open the present. She carefully ripped away the Christmas tree wrapping paper to reveal the gift.
“Is this…Virigina Woolf’s illustrated biography?” She asked, “You didn’t, oh. Spencer.”
Pridefully, Spencer smiled as he took in Y/N’s ridiculously happy expression. He nearly died of happiness himself as she tore open the book, flipping through page and page of colorful illustrations and carefully written text.
Spencer felt Y/N’s arms wrap around his torso and the flatness of the book shoved into his chest as Y/N hugged him tightly. Unsure how to even breathe with her that close, Spencer decided that the best course of action would be to hug her back. He followed her, wrapping his arms around Y/N’s body and breathing her peachy, mango perfume. Spencer smelled it in her hair, he felt her heart beating as fast, if not faster than his. And for the first time in his life he felt light.
“That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever gotten me,” Y/N said, pulling back from the embrace, “You’re going to make me cry.”
“I’m sorry,” Spencer said, unsure what he was apologizing for exactly, “From now on I know presents make you cry.” He teased with a smirk. He wasn’t sure where the confidence came from, but was eager to see where it led.
“Spence,” Y/N groaned, resting her forehead against his chest, seemingly not wanting to stop touching him, “Let me get you a drink so we can move from the foyer.”
Spencer nodded, following Y/N into the kitchen. It was painted a warm yellow with daisies on the backsplash. He had yet to see the rest of the house, but already knew that it would perfectly fit Y/N. Spencer watched as Y/N poured him a glass of red wine.
“Derek and Penelope on their way?” Spencer asked, hoping to keep the conversation going, “Penelope was pretty eager about your famous roast chicken and raspberry tarts all week at work.”
Y/N gave Spencer a quizzical look, “Penelope called me three days ago and canceled. She said that Hank had the flu,”
“Well Derek texted me a half hour ago that he was bringing a game for all of us to play. He said he was bringing something to pop culture so it's fair for everyone, besides me of course.” Spencer explained.
Y/N handed Spencer his glass of wine, “Do you realize what happened,” Y/N said, “They set us up on a sort of blind date.”
Spencer felt heat rush to his cheeks. He was unable to cast blame on the untouched alcohol in his glass. A sudden rush of embarrassment flooded Spencer as he realized exactly what Derek and Penelope bailing meant: he would be alone with the girl that he’s been pining after for a year and a half with enough wine to make him say things he kept buried deep inside.
“Ah,” Spencer said, unsure what to say. He’s usually clueless in social situations that he’s familiar with, but he could confidently say that he’d never found himself getting hoodwinked into a blind date yet. “Well, we can just make the best of it, I suppose.”
“Yes, I mean,” Y/N said, clearly attempting to not sound too eager, “A date with you sounds wonderful. I mean, if I had to get set up on a blind date or any date for that matter, I’d want it to be you.”
“Really?” Spencer said, shocked. He sipped his wine and licked his lips tasting the leftover booze. “You mean that, Y/N?” His voice sounded deeper, more confident than the one he recognized as his own.
“Of course I do.” She said, leaning in close to Spencer and placing her hand on his chest. “If you haven't realized yet, you’re pretty great and I’m kind of crazy about you.” She whispered, the mixture of sweet liquor and peaches clouding Spencer’s mind. He brought his hands to her waist, rubbing soft circles against her clothed hip.
“I had a bet.” Spencer whispered back, setting the wine glass on the counter. “With myself, wondering how far I’d make it into this night before I needed to touch you, to kiss you, to feel your body against mine.”
“And how far did you guess? Dessert? Coffee? Did you think about whisking me away from Penelope and Derek? Kissing me secretly, even though they knew exactly what was happening.”
“In the car I finally decided on after dinner. Maybe the wine would help my confidence, but to tell the truth, Y/N it was when you opened the door.”
“For me it was when I watched you walk up to the porch. You look really handsome in that jacket and cardigan.” Y/N confessed.
The light flashed before Spencer’s eyes, and Y/N’s kiss on the top of his cheek burned a hole that instantly left him craving more. He’d let her draw any pattern she desired, as long as her kisses are the medium and he is her canvas.
Spencer cupped her face, fingers craving the feel of her skin. He met her for a kiss and together they created something daringly beautiful and carefully passionate. Y/N kissed him back with the fervor and intensity that bubbled between them at least a year. Spencer grabbed Y/N’s wool sweater and slipped his hands underneath it as he pushed her against the counter. He smirked as he felt her mouth morph into a moan at the feeling of his coarse fingertips against her warm skin.
Together, the pair of them formed a delicate bubble. It was fragile that Spencer knew any sudden movement would pop it. But it had the potential to build up into something strong, something beautiful, something made to last.
“Spence,” Y/N says, her voice heady with desire and lips well bitten and colored from his kisses. “The oven…I want to do that again. I want to do that a lot, but the tart. I can’t let it burn.” She explained.
Spencer chuckled, quickly kissing Y/N on her forehead as she slipped from his warm embrace to take the dessert out of the oven. Awkwardly, Spencer attempted to adjust his pants, hiding just how much the kiss affected him.
“Hope you have a good appetite,” Y/N said, placing the tart on the oven to cool next to the roast chicken. “There’s enough food here for like five people. And it’s just us.”
“And Virigina Woolf and Emily Dickinson.” Spencer mentioned, smiling as Y/N rolled her eyes teasingly, “You were too occupied with jumping my bones to introduce me to your cats, Y/N.” He teased her.
“Spencer!” Y/N said, sounding aghast. She threw the kitchen towel at him laughing as he failed to catch it. “Well, you should meet them now, you know while we’re not occupied by the other things” She said, the flirtatious smirk on her well kissed lips making Spencer blush at the plethora of possibilities at hand.

HERE IS THE REPEATED IMAGE OF THE LOVER DESTROYED | PART 2
AO3 | Part 1 | Part 3 (Soon)
He could quite clearly remember their first official meeting. He says official because, well, to put it bluntly, Edmund had been watching the young Lord for quite some time. He needed to make sure the man was right for the job after all.
It was infuriating how inherently good he was.
Stephen seemed to have it all. The manor house, the pure heart the, uh, looks.
Edmund watched from afar as Stephen played with the village children, chasing them around and pretending not to find them when they played hide and go seek. He would race horses with a tall woman who seemed to prefer the more masculine trousers to the pastel dresses of her peers. They would hang all over each other when they weren’t riding, trading jabs and giggling at the silliest of jokes.
Edmund watched Stephen practise his swordsmanship with a small, fierce woman with features so sharp they could make you bleed. Despite the dresses she wore - in darker shades of purple and blue - she was never hindered. The pair were almost always equally matched.
Edmund always enjoyed watching them spar, those trousers did wonders for Stephen’s behind.
But that first real meeting, Edmund had made quite the impression.
Sat in the shadowed alcove of Stephen’s bedroom window, Edmund cut chunks out of a juicy red apple with his third favourite dagger. It had a bronze handle, inlaid with small blood red gemstones. It was stolen, of course, you don’t come by these things easily. (His favourite dagger was a family heirloom, sharp metal with a carved wooden handle. His uncle had made it, back when he was young and times were easier.)
Stephen had walked into his bedroom with a groan, brow sweaty as he rolled out the kinks in his neck. His shirt was unlaced down to just below his sternum, showing off a toned chest covered with a thick thatch of dark hair. His belt hung undone, though his sword still hung from his hip.
Stephen walked right past Edmund, stripping off his shirt as he went and revealing his toned arms and back. Edmund chomped down on a large piece of apple to stop his thoughts straying from his mission.
“So. You’re Lord of the house, huh?”
Stephen startled, unsheathing his sword and spinning towards the window. “Who’s there?”
Edmund carved another apple chunk, staying encased in shadow. “A bit young for a Lord, aren’t you?”
“Show yourself.” Stephen all but growled.
Edmund hopped down from the window, stepping into the candlelight. He bowed low, a smirk sitting pride of place on his lips. “My lord.”
The point of a sword tapped gently at the underside of his chin. Oh, that should not give him butterflies. “Who are you?”
Edmund raised slowly to standing. “Edmund the Exiled, my Lord. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
“Exiled? From where?”
“Why Henry’s Kingdom, of course. A wretched man, he is.”
Stephen lowered his sword. “And you’re here, why?”
“I’d heard Hawkins is nice this time of year.”
“I meant here as in my bedchamber.”
“Ah.” Edmund nodded. “Well, as you know, Henry is a cruel king. He does not care for the people he presides over. He cares only for power.” He grimaced, venom spitting from his words. “He is a violent and wrathful king, and an end must be brought to his reign.”
Stephen walked over to a hook on the wall, hanging his sword from it. He moved to the bed and pulled a bundle of cloth out from beneath the pillow before slipping it over his head. A nightshirt and by Gods it looked soft. Edmund had the urge to rub his cheek against it like a cat.
“What does this have to do with me?”
“There’s an… oppositional force growing. We’ve already amassed a large number of men.”
“Go on.”
“We’re going to overthrow the king. And we need someone to take his place.”
___________________
His legs felt numb. Every step he took weighed down with lead. His hands hadn’t stopped shaking. They were still coated in Stephen’s blood. It was dry now.
His mind was blank. He didn’t allow himself the luxury of thought. Couldn’t. If he did he would break, fall into a pit of despair so deep he wouldn’t be able to crawl back out. He would crumble into a million tiny little pieces. Poof into dust right there on the footpath.
Oh, there was a footpath. He must be nearing Hawkins.
He kept on stumbling forward.
He couldn’t say how much time had passed. Minutes since he’d last kissed Stephen’s lips. Hours since he’d left his body.
It must’ve been a while. The sky was pink with the early dawn as Edmund finally broke through the trees, crested the hill. He paused.
Hawkins lay at the bottom. The farmers were already out, tending their crop, their wains running amok in the fields. He could see Nancy training alone in the courtyard.
Edmund tripped over his feet as he started to move again. It was like he was floating, his feet not really touching the ground yet still carrying him forward.
No time passed at all by the time he reached the end of town. He could feel the eyes of the villagers falling upon his dishevelled, blood soaked appearance but still couldn’t stop.
He came to a halt at the edge of the courtyard. Nancy was striking at a cloth covered block of wood with her sword, grunting as the blade hit.
She gasped when she saw him, dropping her sword to the ground. “Edmund?”
Edmund couldn’t speak. He was frozen.
“Robin!” Nancy called out, fear lacing her voice.
Robin came stumbling down the manor steps, book in hand and not watching where she was going. “I’m at a really good part of the book, Nance. I swear if you called me just to spar with you--”
“Robin.” Nancy spoke gravely, eyes latched onto Edmund’s bloody hands.
“What?” Robin raised her head from her book. She followed Nancy’s gaze to where Edmund stood, shoulders hunched. She caught sight of the blood, flinched. “No.”  Her voice was no louder than a whisper. She repeated herself, louder. “No.”
It’s that that broke him.
Tears began to flow freely, spilling in endless rivulets down Edmund’s dirty cheeks. He fell to his knees, curling in on himself as sobs started to wrack his body. “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I’m so sorry.”
He forced his eyes open, staring up at Robin. She was barely holding herself together, face and eyes red as she held back tears. “Where is he?”
Edmund could only shake his head.
“Edmund, where is he?” It was the harshest her voice had ever been, no trace of the usual soft rasp.
“He’s gone. Went in my arms.”
Robin let out an involuntary sob. “No. No, he can’t be.” She was crying in earnest, fat, wet tears streaming. “He’s always been okay. He’s never- Oh gods.”
She turned on her heel, storming back into the manor.
“Robin!” Nancy called after her. Robin didn’t respond.
Edmund ducked his head, knees aching in the dirt. He flinched when a small hand touched his back.
“Just me.” Nancy spoke softly. “Let’s get you cleaned up, okay?”
Edmund let himself be tugged to his feet, pulled along with guiding hands into the bathroom connected to Stephen’s bedroom. It felt wrong, he thought, to mar such a nice place with blood and grime.
“I’ll be right back, okay? I’m just going to get some water.” Nancy left quietly.
Edmund caught sight of himself in the small mirror that hung above the sink. His hair was frizzy and lank, clinging to his head. His eyes were almost as red as the stains on his hands and clothes. Pale lines cut tracks through the muck on his cheeks.
And to think, not long ago, he was happy here.
___________________
“You’re awake early.” Edmund smiled, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he leaned against the bathroom door.
Stephen caught his eye in the reflection of the mirror. It wasn’t big, but it was a little lavish, Edmund thought. A polished bronze oval frame twisted into leaves and flowers. Pretty, but no prettier than the man staring back at him.
“Says the man who’d sleep until noon if I’d let him.”
Edmund chuckled, scratching his bare stomach as he walked further into the room. He placed his palms on the slight curve of Stephen’s waist, laughing softly when he jumped at the cold, and slid them round to his stomach. He pressed his chest up against Stephen’s back, hooked his chin over his shoulder. Stephen leaned back into his embrace.
“Seriously though, my Lord. What’s got you up?”
Stephen rolled his eyes at the title, much as he always did, but smiled softly nonetheless. “Just nervous, I guess. Big day tomorrow.”
Edmund hummed, pressing his lips to the skin of Stephen’s shoulder. “I’ll be right by your side the entire time.”
“It’s a battlefield, Ed. We won’t be able to keep tabs on each other so easily. What if we get separated?”
“I won’t let that happen.”
Stephen turned in Edmund’s hold, bowing his head. Edmund’s hands dropped to his hips. “What if…”
Edmund nudged a finger under his chin. “What if what, love?”
Hesitantly, Stephen met his eye. “What if one of us gets hurt? Or worse? I don’t think I could take it if I lost you.”
“That isn’t going to happen.” Edmund spoke confidently. “We have the upper hand.”
“How can you be so sure?” Stephen whispered. “Just-- If something happens to me, just know that I love you. Okay?”
“Nothing is going to happen to you.”
Stephen only nodded, didn’t seem convinced.
“C’mon. Come back to bed.” Edmund grinned, tugging at Stephen’s hips, slipping his fingertips beneath the waistband of his sleep pants. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
Stephen grinned, a pretty blush colouring his cheeks. He let Edmund tug him back to bed.
___________________
“Edmund?” Nancy said gently, startling him out of his trance. “The bath is ready.”
Edmund pulled his clothes off mechanically as Nancy averted her eyes. He stepped carefully into the bathtub, letting out a breath as he submerged his aching muscles in the warm water. He sat down, curling into a ball.
Nancy knelt beside the tub with a clean rag and a bar of soap. It smelled like Stephen.
She gently tugged his hands away from where they were wrapped around his knees and began to carefully wash the dried blood from his skin. Neither of them spoke. Edmund could only stare at the bath water as it steadily turned from clear to a muddy pink.
When Nancy started to rub the dirt from other areas of skin, Edmund began to stare at his hands. The blood caked under his fingernails.
All of a sudden he needed it off. He needed to be clean.
He grabbed a small scrubbing brush from a shelf beside the tub and began to feverishly rub at his nails.
“Edmund.” Nancy’s voice barely cut through his fugue. “Edmund, stop!” She grabbed his hands, stilling them and splashing water onto the stone floor. “It’s alright. I’ve got you.” She whispered, unfolding his fingers from the brush and starting to carefully clean beneath his nails.
“Is Robin okay?” Edmund croaked, voice hoarse and quiet.
“She won’t be for a while.” Nancy sighed. “She needs space right now.”
Edmund nodded, shutting his eyes tight with a shuddering breath. “M’sorry.”
Nancy ceased moving. “Whatever happened… it wasn’t your fault.”
Edmund hid his face in his knees and didn’t answer.
Nancy washed his hair with Stephen’s soap. She helped him out of the bath, helped him dry off. She dressed him in Stephen’s softest shirt brushed through his hair and tied it back into a loose braid.
She tucked him into a once shared bed with a sad smile and an almost maternal kiss on the forehead. He had never known Nancy to be maternal.
“Nancy?” He called out to her as she reached the doorway. She turned to him. “Thank you.”
Nancy just nodded, left.  And Edmund lay in a bed that was far too empty.
___________________
The bright early sunlight cast soft shadows across the room from where it cut through the curtains.
Edmund had been awake a while, tracing over the slope of Stephen’s nose, the arch of his brow, the curve of his jaw. Admiring the soft way his eyelashes dusted the apples of his cheeks and the moles dotting his neck.
He was truly beautiful, and Edmund couldn’t get enough.
So he tried to drink it all in. Memorise it. Because surely, once Stephen awoke it would all come crashing down. The night before had been a heat of the moment thing, Edmund didn’t expect he would be permitted to stay.
They were both still bare, covered only by the dark green sheets. Stephen slept on his front, and the covers had slipped, pooling in the arch of his lower back. Edmund wanted to reach out, trail a finger down his spine.
Stephen made a soft noise, shifting as he started to blink himself awake, and Edmund felt his heart clench.
But when Stephen opened his eyes, he smiled. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Edmund parroted.
“You sleep okay?” Edmund nodded. “Good.”
Stephen reached out a hand, splaying it across the centre of Edmund’s chest, stroking softly. Edmund looked at it in surprise.
“What’s wrong?”
“Don’t you want me to leave?”
“What? No?” Stephen laughed. Then his face dropped. “U-Unless you want to. I won't stop you.”
“I don’t want to go.”
Stephen’s face softened. “Then don’t”
“I had fun last night.”
“Me too.” Stephen inched closer. “We should do that again.”
“You think?”
“Mhmm.” Stephen pushed himself up on his elbows, leaning over Edmund. “I think we should do it all the time.”
“You’re so beautiful.”
Stephen’s smile was brighter than the brightest star. He laughed softly and pressed his lips to Edmund’s.
___________________
Edmund was just starting to doze when he heard the door creak open. Light footsteps tapped against the floor and then the other side of the bed was dipping with weight.
He squinted his eyes to make out the figure. Robin.
She curled close but didn’t say anything. It was an unspoken agreement that they both needed this. Needed each other.
Their hands met in the middle of the bed, pinkies interlocking. They fell asleep to the sounds of each others’ breathing and both wishing they were sharing the bed with someone else.

TW: mentions of SA and death
i dont think people understand how fucked up henry actually is. like i see SO many posts like "oh i can fix him" "he was just in a goofy mood" and yes i understand most are just joking and i might be a little too upset about this but when people try to twist the actual canon of the show to defend henry? like what the fuck. the amount of symbolism hinting at SA and real pervy shit is insane.
even in s1, henry targetting will and then stuffing a vine down his throat and impregnating him with a demodog? look me in the eye and tell me that isnt creepy as fuck.
him only targetting teens and pre-teens? like some of the max being vecna'd scenes were shot in a way that feels like its designed to make you uncomfortable. like him groaning and rolling his eyes back when he puts his hand over their face? the cheek stroking? he did that to el too (who was like nine at the time) he like stroked her cheek while she was crying and told her not to worry as they stood in a room filled with childrens dead bodies.
the will getting possessed scene? will said it himself: he felt it everywhere. i know there was one quote that really had alarm bells ringing in my mind and i dont remember it exactly but when will was possessed he said that henry (the mindflayer) was making him do it (aka making him do things he did not want to do)
its all creepy.
and even if we arent talking about that kind of thing, he is just a literal psychopath and you cant change that. he murdered a room full of children. he murdered his mom and sister. he murdered chrissy, fred, patrick, and max (although el started her heart back up, she still died)
he tricked el into thinking she had an ally and then traumatized her so much that she blocked it out of her brain and had to relive it to get the memories back. he gave her an entire speech about how life was pointless, cruel, and repetitive when she was nine.
to add to this, the stuff that happenedI when billy gets possessed. the visuals of him kidnapping hannah (im pretty sure it was hannah, please correct me if im wrong) were definitely NOT subtle. he tied her up, gagged her, laid her down on the ground, and knelt over her while whispering "be quiet, it will all be over soon" which is also said by henry when he targets his victims, usually right before he kills them. but yeah, the whole thing with billy wasnt subtle at all, and that wasnt actually billy, it was henry using billy's body.
i also wanted to talk about brenner, because thinking about all the el shit has me thinking about him too.
there is so much that creeps me out about brenner. like not just creepy things but like things we have seen him do to el on the show. like he tried to make her kill a cat and when she refused he locked her in a small, dark room while she screamed for him to let her out because she was terrified, and it scared her so much that when mike got her into the closet she had flashbacks. and then the scene after she kills the guards (which also severely traumatized her) brenner carried her away after saying "incredible."
like, he doesnt see her as human. at all. she is a lab experiment to him.
another thing that bothers me is the "papa" shit, for obvious reasons. i dont know if he is trying to get her to trust him more and see him as a father figure or if there is more to it, but it creeps me the fuck out. she was kidnapped as a newborn by this man who works at a lab, and he forces her to call him papa while he basically tells her that everything he is doing to her (abusing, experimenting, using her like a tool) is okay. he gives her the illusion that she can back out at any time ("is that okay with you, eleven?") but when she does back out she is punished severely and cruely. which is a very common tactic to make women feel like they are safe and they are okay while being raped or assaulted.
there is also the fact that one of the only women that isnt a number we see at the lab when el is with all of the other numbers (before henry kills them) is the nurse. and yes, women can be creepy too, but it gives me really bad vibes thinking about all of those children in the hands of men who didnt see them as human and didnt care about them at all, and the children thought that anything the men did to them was okay.
that is scary.
there are also a few shots that are just creepy, like a specific one i can think of is a shot in s1 ep8:
Tumblr media
(sorry for the ass quality)
yeah. interesting shot. and its lingered on for a LONG time.
but yeah. brenner and henry give me terrible vibes, besides the whole psychopath thing. i just feel like not everyone is really thinking about how weird some of the situations these kids are being put in.

Jason and Henry Snippet
For @bloodlessheirbyjacques because I need to restore balance. We’re lucky I write a lot of couple snippets anyway 🤣 No mad cats here
Slightly spicy times here, just the preamble for it. They’re more tender than anything.
(I’m like sleep-deprived and recovering from the flu so if I posted this already I’m so sorry)
————————————————————
The door opened, and Jason dreaded another impromptu meeting with Gabe and his idiotic plan to start a space program. Even Will knew it was a terrible idea. Putting that madman into space, when it was hard enough to control him on Earth, was a recipe for disaster. Some days, Jason truly wondered if Gabe’s mind was just gone. His thought process was a mystery, and if Jason wasn’t careful, someone would get hurt because of it.
“Honey?”
Jason looked up, the heaviness in his chest disappearing at the sound of Henry’s voice as he stepped inside the office.
“How’s it going?”
“I’m just finishing up here. These blueprints need to get to the engineers.”
Henry nodded. “I can deliver them for you, if you want.”
Jason clicked the mouse of his computer. “Actually, I just sent them.”
“Oh, cool… So you’re done?”
“Yes, finally. I’m so sorry for missing dinner.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I just got off of work, so I missed it, too.”
“Did the children eat already?”
“Yep, Colin made them something.”
Jason smiled. They were so lucky to have an aspiring chef among their patients.
“How about Will?”
“All taken care of. He’s sleeping in the dorms with the kids.”
“Perfect, thank you.”
Henry walked over and took his hand. “Come on, let’s get you upstairs.”
The trip up was surprisingly peaceful. Usually, the halls were full of night-shift workers or people just coming back from tests, but tonight, the place seemed empty. As soon as they entered their room, the phone rang. Jason let out a groan that Henry struggled not to laugh at as he hit the speaker button.
“Hello?”
“Henry?” Rio sounded out of breath. “Is Jason there, too?”
“Right here.”
“I’m so sorry to do this to you guys. Gabe wants us all to stand by for his broadcast.”
Jason closed his eyes. “What is it for?”
“Orientation for the new hires. He thinks it’ll boost company loyalty if we all watch it.”
“Pompous bastard,” Jason muttered. “Thanks for letting us know.”
“Yeah, of course. Avery and I made it to the dorms so we can look after the kids.”
That got Jason to smile. “Thank you, Rio. I appreciate it.”
“See you in a bit.”
Jason hung up the phone as Henry turned on the TV. The podium was still being set up, with soft music playing in the background. Henry and Jason sat together on the couch.
“We should make popcorn,” Henry said, “and throw it at him whenever he says something stupid.”
“There’d be none left to eat.”
Henry laughed. “Right.”
“Honestly, we should just put him on mute.”
“… Can we?”
Jason looked perplexed. Henry pointed at the screen.
“I mean, it’s just for the new hires, right? We can just tune him out and have some food.”
“Henry… You’re a genius.”
They muted the TV and turned on their own stereo. Henry knew just what to play: Celestial Hearts, Jason’s favorite album. It always made him laugh when Henry sang along, using whatever was in his hand as a microphone. They cooked up some food and danced around in the kitchen. Miscellaneous employees appeared on the camera feed, and the duo had a blast giving them fake voices.
“Is this the meeting place for Old Farts Anonymous?” That was Henry’s voice for a particular soldier who couldn’t decide which side of the stage he should be on.
“Yes, my good sir.” Jason’s voice for a plastic-looking scientist. “Take a seat for our lecture on prune juice.”
Henry laughed. “Thank you, sir. Will there be gin rummy afterwards?”
“Gin rummy? Is this some sick joke? We play canasta, like human beings!”
“Jay—” Henry choked. “You’re killing me.”
Finally, Gabe appeared on screen. Jason immediately began his best impression of him.
“Esteemed members of our humble facility, I have come to tell you that I’m actually a hologram. The real Vesely has been dead for three decades, and if you can find my severed head in the next twenty-four hours, you shall have full ownership of my greatest creation: the plastic bin I drilled into the copy machine—”
They both lost their composure, giggling into each other’s shoulders. For a few wonderful minutes, their work didn’t exist. This was all there was: late night dinner and jokes. If that was what they did for the rest of their lives, they wouldn’t have minded one bit.
While Vesely brought some scared-looking interns onto the stage, Henry cleaned up the dishes. Even in small moments like this, Jason was thrilled to be in love with him. He walked up and kissed Henry’s cheek.
“Thank you, love.”
“Thank you.”
Jason chuckled. “For what?”
“Being here with me. I’m so glad I met you.”
“Henry—”
“I’m serious. You’re my best friend, and the only person I’d ever want to spend the rest of my life with. I couldn’t even bring myself to look at anyone else when I thought you were dead.”
Jason grew somber, and Henry swiftly grabbed his hands.
“Sorry, that wasn’t to insult you. I’m happy that you found comfort in Rio, even if it didn’t last. I know that you still loved me.”
“You do?”
“Absolutely, and I still loved you, too. That’s my point. After everything this company has done to us, it’s only made my feelings for you stronger. You’re the one, I’m sure of it.”
“… Henry.”
He brought Jason in for a kiss, and then another one, and another. Henry grabbed the counter to steady himself. Jason pulled away breathlessly.
“May I show you just how much I love you?”
Henry grinned. “During our boss’ broadcast? How scandalous, Mister Prescott.”
Jason flushed at the name. “That’s how confident you are?”
“In us? Definitely.”
“Good, so am I.” He kissed him again. “Follow me, please.”
“Right,” Henry said, “I can’t focus if that asshole’s face is in the background.”
Jason laughed and pulled him into the bedroom. Henry carefully removed his partner’s prosthesis and suspension sock. He had memorized the whole process with ease, and Jason’s heart melted each time he showed it. They had come so far just to get here, and now it was time to enjoy it. Jason took Henry’s glasses and put them aside so he could properly kiss him. Hands ran through each other’s hair, trailing down to shirt collars and hems.
Henry couldn’t help himself as he fluttered his fingers across Jason’s back. His laughter made his eyes sparkle.
“Henry!”
“Sorry, honey.”
“Are you?”
Henry grinned. “No, not really.”
Jason crossed his arms. “You’re cruel, Prescott.”
“Aww, Jay.”
He kissed Jason’s neck, and a smile fought its way onto his face.
“Okay, I forgive you.”
“Thanks. I’ll make it up to you.”
As he continued to kiss at his neck, Jason hummed in bliss. He undid the buttons on Henry’s shirt, caressing the soft skin underneath.
“Have I told you how beautiful you are?”
Henry chuckled. “Yeah, but I still don’t know why.”
Jason stopped, appalled by what he just said. “You— You—”
He tried to stand, forgetting that his prosthesis was placed aside. Henry caught him and helped him up.
“Jay, what—”
“Look into the mirror, please.”
Henry glanced over at the standing mirror beside their dresser. Jason held him close, lovingly tracing the outline of his body.
“You are gorgeous,” he whispered. “Every dip, every curve, it’s pure art.”
The delicateness of his touch, the sincerity of his voice… He knew how to make someone feel special. Henry leaned his head on Jason’s shoulder.
“You’re sure you don’t want someone strong, like Rio?”
Jason wheezed. “Yes, I’m sure.”
“But—”
“This is you, Henry. These shapes are yours, and I adore them, just as I adore you.”
He wiped the tears from Henry’s cheeks. Slowly, Jason helped him remove his shirt.
“Besides,” he said, “you’re actually stronger than Rio.”
Henry blinked. “What?”
“You know those ion lasers aren’t meant to be carried, right? That’s why Rio puts them on carts.”
He smiled sheepishly. “Oh, I didn’t know.”
Jason chuckled. “It’s okay. I thought it was cool.”
“You did?”
“Well, I don’t want you doing it anymore, but it was amazing.”
Henry winked. “Did I look good?”
“You always look good to me—” He grinned. “But in that moment, you were the hottest soldier there.”
That was all it took for Henry’s face to turn red. Jason peeked outside the room while he recovered.
“He’s still going,” he said, shaking his head.
Henry grabbed his hand. “Good, I don’t want him calling us for a good while.”
He led Jason back onto the bed and helped him take off his sweater. His skin wasn’t as warm as Henry’s, but it still felt nice and smooth. Tenderly, he kissed along Jason’s shoulders and down his chest. Jason cupped his face and brought him back up.
“I love you.”
Henry smiled. “I love you too… my sweet angel.”

Summer Camping Chapter 5: Memories- Multi Ships
Remus Lupin x Violetta Cook, Sirius Black x Gaia Devereaux, Regulus Black x Cecelia Potter, and James Potter x Ella Underwood
Description: The group looks back fondly at the photo album from their first camping trip. Times may change but their bond is forever
Word Count: 1.4k
Tumblr media
1985
“Careful Lily, James will kill us if he sees you bent over in your state,” Gaia warned lightheartedly as she walked into the kitchen. Lily looked over her shoulder at her friend and grinned cheekily.
“Chill out Gaia, I’m capable of handling myself, pregnant and all. I’ve already done it once before,” she pointed out as she stood to her full height after grabbing a cup of yoghurt from the fridge, exposing her swollen belly. The girl rolled her eyes in response, but couldn’t hide the smile on her face as she grabbed a spoon for her friend.
“I can’t wait for baby Emma to be here,” she continued as the two walked back into the living room where Sirius, Henry, Ella, Remus and Violettta were sitting. Harry along with Remus and Violetta’s daughter Jasmine were playing on the floor together while the others watched in between conversations. Right after they sat down, they heard a voice call out.
“Oh my god you guys,” Cecelia exclaimed as she and James walked out of the master bedroom. “You will never believe what we just found.” That caught everyone’s attention and Lily groaned, muttering something about having just sat down. Ella giggled and opted to help her up. They, along with the rest of the adults, found themselves surrounding the kitchen table as Cecelia set a large book on it. On the cover of said book read “Camp 1976” in a cursive font. Gaia gasped silently and smiled.
“No way!” Sirius laughed from beside her.
“I can’t believe it, when’s the last time any of us looked at our copies?” He asked rhetorically. Harry and Jasmine had stopped when Gaia had cried out. The two of them shared a confused look before walking over to the table.
“What is it?” Harry questioned confusedly, climbing onto his father’s lap. James grinned and pointed to the book.
“It’s a photo album from our school days. After our fifth year of Hogwarts your Aunt Ella suggested we go on a camping trip to start off the summer,” he explained. Ella grinned and flipped open the book to the ownership page.
“There are a lot of memories from that trip. It was when your father and I were still dating so your mummy isn’t in this yet. Neither is Uncle Henry,” she added.
“What a dark time,” James joked, which caused Ella to lightly shove him. Violetta picked up Jasmine at the young girl’s request and rested her on her hip.
“Mama!” Jasmine exclaimed, pointing at one of the pictures after Henry turned the page. Violetta and Remus took a closer look only to realize it was the picture of Violetta sitting on the dock on their first day of camping. The girl smiled and nodded at her daughter.
“Oui mon amour, it is,” she spoke gently. Remus smiled and kissed his wife’s cheek.
“I told you it was a good picture.” Violetta giggled then stuck her tongue out at him. Gaia rolled her eyes playfully at them then flipped to the next page. On that page was a picture of her and Sirius laying on separate floats lounging on the lake from the day before they left the campsite.
“Wow, I looked good back then,” Sirius commented.
“Yeah, what happened to you?” Gaia joked. He playfully glared at her then leaned over and flicked her ear.
“Ow!” She yelped before returning the oh-so-kind gesture.
“That’s enough you two,” Cecelia reprimanded. “You’re acting like children.” To prove her point, the older couple stuck their tongues out at her. She rolled her eyes in response before scanning the next page.
“Oh my gosh, do you remember when Prongs tackled Padfoot because he tried to throw me into the lake?” She laughed, pointing to the pictures on said page. It was several pictures from their day in the lake, all taken by Cecelia from the dock. One of them was just the others messing around and having a water fight. Another one was of the couples playing chicken (Regulus being a ref beside Cecelia). The next one was a group photo of everyone from the dock, Cecelia and Regulus in the far left corner. The last one was another group photo of them drying off beside the fire later that evening.
“Yeah, my head and back were hurting for the rest of the day Prongs,” Sirius said, looking at James pointedly. The boy smirked.
“Consider it payback for you practically tackling me off my broom after a game during the school year,” he responded. Sirius began saying something but Gaia was quick to cover the boy’s mouth.
“There are children present, don’t forget,” she muttered, eyes glancing over to Harry, who was staring at Sirius with wide eyes. A playful smile appeared on his lips and he swooped the young Potter boy up. Harry squealed and laughed as his godfather spun around with him still in the air.
“Ah I wasn’t going to say anything bad,” he exclaimed before resting Harry against his chest. “Isn’t that right Harry?” The boy giggled and nodded.
“Right!” Sirius smiled fondly as Harry rested his hands on his face.
“Man, kids are cute,” he muttered absentmindedly before smirking at his wife. “Maybe we should try to-”
“Aaand I think that’s enough,” Lily interrupted quickly, taking Harry. “ It’s nap time for the little ones anyway.” Violetta nodded in agreement and followed Lily to Harry’s bedroom, the boy complaining that he wasn’t tired yet. As soon as they were out of sight, Henry smacked the back of Sirius’ head.
“Really mate? In front of the kids?” He questioned. Sirius rolled his eyes and wrapped an arm around Gaia’s waist.
“Relax you wet rags, I wasn’t going to say anything bad. I do have a conscience, you know.”
“Really? Where does it go for 90% of the day?” Gaia joked. Sirius looked offended.
“I did not come here today to be attacked,” he exclaimed. Violetta shushed him as she and Lily walked back out.
“Don’t wake up the children,” she scolded quietly. Sirius began to say something but was interrupted yet again.
“Look at this,” Ella instructed as she stared at the next page of the album. It was everyone sitting around the campfire making s’mores, but the picture was centered on Sirius and Gaia.
That caught everyone’s attention and they continued to look through the album, sharing and reminiscing memories as they did so. Some of those photos included Cecelia showing Regulus a firefly she’d caught, James and Ella asleep on the hammock he’d set up (Henry voiced how weird it was to see his brother with his girlfriend which made everyone laugh), Regulus teaching Cecelia to swim, Remus and Violetta watching a sunset on the dock, and many more pictures like those.
Eventually they got to the end of the book and the last picture made each and every single one of them smile. It was another group photo, this one having been taken the day they left the campsite. The group was sitting in the car and it looked like it had been taken by Ella. She was sitting beside James, who was in the driver's seat. Sirius, Gaia, Remus and Violetta were in the next seats. Sirius’ arm was wrapped around Gaia’s shoulders and his jacket was draped over her. Violetta’s head was resting on Remus’ shoulder and his head rested against hers. Finally, Regulus and Cecelia were in the last row of seats, both of them leaving on the seats in front of them so they were closer to the camera. Everyone could faintly see their held hands resting on the seat between Sirius and Gaia's heads. Every single one of them had a bright smile on their face.
“That was such a fun week,” Violetta stated softly as James closed the book. The others nodded in agreement.
“We should do it again soon,” Remus said. “Lily and Henry haven’t gotten to experience it.” Ella perked up at that and she nodded enthusiastically.
“The kids would love that!” She added. Everyone seemed to light up at the idea and they began talking animatedly to each other, voices overlapping.
“It’s nearing summertime,” Regulus pointed out. “All we have to do is free a week’s worth of schedules and we’re good to go.”
“Let’s get started then,” James announced, standing up. The group headed to the living room as they continued talking. That camping trip was quite possibly the best thing that had ever happened to them and it impacted every single one of them in a good way. Times may change but their bond was forever.

Henry Cavill One Shot
Hi! Could you done with the Henry Cavill with an insecure/jealous reader? He works closely with attractive female costars and the reader is not famous. She gets insecure and jealous of Henry’s close relationship with one of his lead costars and it leads to a big fight between them. A lot of angst with a fluff ending? Thanks!
Tumblr media
Your boyfriend Henry had invited you to join him on the set of his new movie and you were so excited.
That was until you saw Henry with his female costar.
Having to work half a day, you met Henry on set just as they were getting ready to work on a love scene.
She was tall, drop dead gorgeous and sweet as could be.
You watch the privates jokes and sweet touches in between takes, seeing with your own eyes just how close they had gotten since filming had begun.
Any and every insecurity you had ever had in your life creeped up as you watched them, until finally you couldn't take it anymore.
You leave the set and head back to your car, your heart pounding and tears streaming down your face as you drive home.
Once at home, you walk around, trying to decide what to do.
Everything inside your head was telling you that you weren't good enough for Henry and he would probably realize it soon enough and leave you for his costar.
You begin to pack your bags, wanting to beat him to the heartbreak that you were sure was coming.
Kal comes up and nudges your hand with his head, signaling he needed to be taken out.
You sigh but grab his leash, leaving your half packed bags on the bed to take him outside.
Kal, always one for long walks, heads up the trail behind the house and into the woods, taking his sweet time to finally find a spot to do his thing.
You walk back up to the house nearly forty five minutes later, and head back inside, getting Kal a treat then head back to the bedroom.
"What is this, Y/N?"
You are startled to find Henry sitting on the bed next to the bags you had left.
"You left set without a word and I come home to find that you're leaving me? What happened?"
The hurt in his voice was evident, only masked slightly by anger.
"I saw you with your costar! She is beautiful and perfect. I am nothing compared to her. I was beating you to the hurt."
He watches as pain and fear fill your face and stands up to go to you.
"No!"
You pull back.
"I saw it. They way you laughed and joked with her. The way she touched you."
He sighs.
"It's acting Y/N!"
You shake your head.
"You weren't filming Henry! It was between takes!"
Henry lets out a frustrated groan, turning around and knocking your bag off the bed, spilling the contents on the floor.
"We have to be close, people have to believe that we are in love on screen. It's nothing more than that!"
You wanted to believe him but you couldn't shake what you had seen.
"And what happens when you realize you would rather be with her? When you figure out I'm not who you thought you wanted? That I'm boring or just plain not good enough for you?"
Tears stream down your face again as all of your insecurities come to light.
"Darling, that will never happen. First of all, she is very happily married with two beautiful children. Second of all, I am deeply, madly, crazily in love with you and nothing and no one will ever change that. And lastly, if after everything that we have had together these last three years, you still want to pack your bags and leave, just know, I will spend everyday for the rest of my life trying to convince you that you are the only one for me. No other woman will ever come close to you Y/N, you are the love of my life and nothing will ever change that."
Tears are in his eyes as he speaks, finally falling when he thinks about you leaving him.
"She's married?"
You ask quietly.
"She's married."
He confirms.
"You love me."
It wasn't a question but more of a realization.
"With all of my heart and soul, love."
This time when he moves closer to you, you don't back away, instead you melt into his arms.
"I love you too."
You say into his chest.
"I know."
He kisses the top of your head and just holds you in his arms.
"So, does this mean you're staying?"
He finally asks.
"Forever."
You reply, all of your worry, jealousy and insecurity now melted away.

fireworks [aaron hotchner x reader]
aaron hotchner x fem!reader warnings: fear of fireworks, mentions of nightmares word count: 2.9k
☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚:⠀ *⋆.*:・゚ .: ⋆*・゚: .⋆
The sun shone down on the small stretch of beach the BAU team was currently situated on. Since it was Fourth of July and they didn't have a case, the team decided to rent out a mansion, Rossi's idea not theirs, in a small beach town they once visited on a case. Surprisingly they found a house that could accommodate everyone, including everyone's spouses and children. No one was quite sure where Rossi found the house and everyone shared the same theory. It was actually his but he didn't want anyone to know. All the adults were able to have their own rooms, while the kids all shared a room that was filled with bunk beds. The house itself was a beautiful Cape Cod-style three floor mansion with a pool, large yard, guest house and access to the beach.
Everyone was currently either sitting on the beach or playing in the water. Hotch, Rossi, Spencer, Emily and Y/N were currently sitting on the beach. Hotch and Rossi were getting snacks set up at the picnic table. Spencer and Y/N were lounging on the sand, Spencer opting to read a book while Y/N and Emily watched the kids splash around in the water. Penelope and Derek were chasing around Jack and Henry while JJ and Will took a walk up the beach.
"So I was thinking we do some fireworks tonight?" Rossi said, his voice raising so Spencer, Emily and Y/N could hear him. Y/N froze when she heard him, her body stiffening subconsciously. No one seemed to notice her small change in demeanor. No one except Hotch. When he caught her eye, he sent a look as if to say, 'everything okay?' Y/N shook her slightly before looking over at Rossi and telling him that was a great idea. Emily and Spencer followed suit, chatting excitedly about the small fireworks show they were going to have.
"Y/N! Y/N!" Jack shouted, running up the beach and launching himself into Y/N's arms. Henry, Derek and Penelope were following closely behind.
"Oh!" Y/N groaned when he landed in her lap, with his arms around her neck. Her arms immediately wrapped around him to hold him up before she looked down at the little boy."What's up buddy?"
"Do you want to go swimming with us?" Jack asked, his eyes lighting up. Y/N almost melted on site, her heart warming at the fact he wanted to spend time with her. She quickly glanced at Hotch, who was smiling back at her.
It was no secret that Hotch and Y/N were a couple. If Y/N wasn't at the BAU or on a case, she was at Hotch's house, spending time with him and Jack. They are constantly touching when they think no one is paying attention, sneaking kisses and holding hands. What they fail to notice is that everyone, is in fact, paying attention. Everyone's hearts melted the first time they saw Y/N with Jack. The team knew Y/N wanted kids, she'd been talking about it before her and Hotch even thought about getting together. And after seeing her with Jack, the team had all decided she'd make a great mom someday. In Hotch's eyes, she was already the perfect mom for Jack. Not that he was replacing Haley, but he knew Jack needed a motherly figure in his life. However, Y/N still felt out of place in Jack's life. She knew she wasn't his mom but she felt like she was more to him than his dad's girlfriend. Logically, the next step for her would be his step mom, but her and Hotch weren't anywhere close to getting married.
"Of course, bud," Y/N smiled at the little boy. "Give me a second, okay? And then we can head down there together."
Jack nodded excitedly, clinging onto Y/N as she stood up. Y/N laughed and moved him so he was balancing on her hip. Jack decided to keep himself busy by playing with her hair and poking her face every few seconds. Y/N walked over to Hotch, who was setting out paper plates.
"Hey buddy," Hotch said when he saw his son, his heart almost stopped when he saw the two most important people to in his life. He leaned over to Y/N and kissed her on the cheek. "Hey you."
"Hi," Y/N whispered, leaning against him slightly. "We're going in the water if you want to come with us."
"Please dad! Come swimming with mom and I!!" Jack exclaimed, wiggling in Y/N's arms. Just like that, Hotch and Y/N froze. Y/N looked at Hotch with confusion and a small trace of happiness in her eyes and Hotch just looked back at her, his expression mirroring hers. Everyone around them froze as well, carefully watching the situation.
"Okay, buddy, I will. Let me just finish helping Uncle Dave set lunch out and I'll be there in a few minutes, okay?" Hotch asked, a small smile appearing on his face. Jack nodded and put his head on Y/N's shoulder. Hotch leaned moved to kiss Y/N's temple before whispering,"You okay?"
Y/N didn't know how to respond so she just nodded before heading down to the water. Jack giggled when Y/N dropped him in the water without warning. When Jack stood up again, he splashed Y/N and tried to chase her.
"So, that was new," Rossi said, looking at Hotch. Hotch was facing the water, a giant smile on his face while he watched Y/N and Jack chase each other.
"Yeah, it was," Hotch said, unable to wipe the smile off his face.
"Do you think she liked being called mom?" Emily chimed in, her head resting on her hand.
"I do. You know her, she's always talking about being a mom and having kids of her own someday," Hotch replied.
"So you guys have discussed having kids, then?" Rossi asked, studying Hotch's face.
"We have," Hotch said giddily. "Not anytime soon, but we have talked about it before."
Without saying anything else, Hotch jogged down to the water. He wrapped his arms around Y/N before falling into the water. Jack just stood there giggling.
"Aaron Hotchner!" Y/N gasped, wiping water away from her face. "You're lucky I love you or else you'd be sleeping on the beach tonight."
Hotch just laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist and kissing her. Jack groaned in disgust and splashed them both. The two shared a look before they started chasing Jack around. The small family continued to play in the water for ten more minutes before Rossi was calling everyone back to the picnic table for lunch.
"Hey buddy, why don't you head up there? Y/N and I are going to just talk for a few minutes," Hotch told Jack. Jack nodded before running back over to Henry. Once they were alone, Hotch grabbed Y/N's hand and the two started walking along the sand. "Is everything okay? I noticed you tense up when the fireworks were mentioned."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. Just don't like fireworks, that's all." Y/N said, leaning into Hotch's shoulder.
"If you say so....mom," Hotch laughed, nudging her with his shoulder. "How did you feel about him calling you mom?"
"I kind of liked it. I know that technically he shouldn't call me mom and I'm not trying to replace Hayley, believe me," Y/N rambled. "Is it okay that he called me mom?"
"Of course it is, Y/N. We both know that you aren't replacing Hayley. Jack knows that also. There's nothing to worry about," Hotch said calmly. He pulled Y/N into a small hug and kissed her forehead. The two made their way back to the picnic table, Y/N opting to sit next to JJ, Emily, and Penelope. Jack was sitting on Y/N's left, occasionally bumping into her arm.
"So, what did you and Hotch go talk about?" Emily said, shoving a piece of watermelon into her mouth. JJ and Penelope both leaning in to hear the conversation.
"Just about what the little one called me," Y/N said vaguely so she wouldn't catch Jack's attention.
"What did he call you?" JJ asked confused. She had been walking with Will when the whole 'ordeal' occurred.
"He called her M-O-M," Penelope whispered.
"Oh my god, no way! Is that a good thing?" JJ asked, very excited for Y/N.
"Yeah, yeah it is." Y/N said smiling. "Aaron and I talked about it, and we basically just decided that if Jack wants to call me M-O-M, then he can."
"That's really great, Y/N," JJ said, patting Y/N on the shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm really happy," Y/N said, smiling at her friends.
The rest of the group fell into a conversation, laughing and joking. Sometime during the conversation, Jack climbed into Y/N's lap, laying against her. Y/N held him closely, rubbing his back gently. When she checked on him, he was fast asleep. She adjusted him so she could carry him into the house before walking over to Hotch.
"Hi, love," Hotch said. "Is he asleep?"
"Yeah, I'm just going to take him up to the house so he can sleep. I might take a nap also, didn't sleep well last night," Y/N said quietly.
"I know, hon. I felt you tossing and turning all night, and I meant to ask you about it this morning," Hotch said concerned. "What was keeping you up?"
Y/N looked around at their friends before shaking her head. "I'll tell you later, okay?" She said quietly. Hotch nodded, watching as she took Jack to the house.
"Okay Jack here we go," Y/N said quietly, walking into Jack's room. She woke him up long enough for him to change into his PJs. While he was changing into his pajamas, she went to her room and changed into comfier clothes as well. She went back to Jack a few minutes later and knocked on the door. Jack opened the door, and lifted his arms for Y/N to pick him up. Y/N lifted him and carried him to his bed Y/N tucked him in before kissing his forehead. "Sleep well, sweetie."
"'Night mom," Jack mumbled before falling back asleep. Y/N smiled before leaving the room. She made her way to the room she was sharing with Hotch and climbed into bed, falling asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.
An hour or two later, Hotch went to go check on both Jack and Y/N. After checking on Jack, who was still sleeping soundly, he went to his and Y/N's room. He stopped just outside the door, listening. He heard cries and muffled screams coming from inside the room. Without hesitation, Hotch threw the door open, quickly scanning his surroundings. Nothing in the room was out of the ordinary, except Y/N tossing and turning in the bed, cries leaving her.
Hotch hurried over to the bed, immediately pulling Y/N into his arms. She didn't have nightmares often, but when she did, Hotch always held her until she calmed down and woke up. He brushed the hair out of her face and kissed her forehead.
"Y/N, my love, please wake up," Hotch whispered. "It's just a dream, it won't hurt you."
Y/N woke up almost immediately, and cuddled closer into her boyfriend's chest. She whimpered when she felt him hold her tightly. They sat there in silence for a few minutes.
"I'm sorry," Y/N whispered, tears falling down her face.
"You have nothing to be sorry about, Y/N," Hotch said quietly. "How long have the nightmare's been happening?"
"Uh, about a week or two, I'm not sure. I don't remember what they're about. I always forget as soon as I wake up. The only thing I remember is extremely loud booming sound that won't go away," Y/N said, hiding her face in Hotch's chest.
"Like fireworks?" Hotch asked, and Y/N nodded. "Is that why you tensed up when Rossi brought it up?"
"Yeah, I guess. I didn't make the connection earlier, though," Y/N said, leaning her head on Hotch's shoulder.
"Do fireworks normally cause you to panic like this?" Hotch asked her.
"I think so. They just sound so much like gunshots, you know?" Y/N whispers. "The sound just sends me back to rough cases."
"I get it, Y/N. Trust me, I do," Hotch started. "Why'd you keep it from me?"
"I don't know. I didn't want to bother you," Y/N said, looking down at her hands.
"You can never bother me, Y/N. We can figure out an alternative to fireworks, if you want to," Hotch said quietly.
"No, no, I don't want to ruin everyone else's fun. It's only for a little bit, I can suck it up," Y/N said, laughing lightly.
"Okay, but if this happens again please don't hesitate to tell me. I don't like the idea of you struggling with something by yourself." Hotch said, kissing her temple.
"You'll be the first to know," Y/N smiled at him. "What's everyone up to?"
"Rossi, Will, Derek, and I were sitting on the porch, drinking some of that fancy stuff Rossi always has. Emily, JJ, and Penelope went to explore the town. Spencer is reading or sleeping, I'm not sure. And Henry and Jack are both taking naps." Hotch said. "And now, you and I are going to cuddle or go for a walk on the beach, it's your choice."
"Can we go downstairs and just hangout with everyone?"  Y/N asked, beginning to get out of bed.
"Of course," Hotch said climbing out of the bed and leading her down stairs. They went outside and sat with Rossi and Will. Soon after they sat down, Spencer came down from his room and joined in the conversation. Eventually, Emily, JJ, and Penelope returned from their trip and settled down on the outdoor sofa with everyone else. Jack and Henry opted to stay inside and play video games instead of hanging out with the adults.
The group shared stories and had a light conversation while Rossi began to cook dinner for everyone. Dinner was ready fairly quickly and everyone decided to go eat on the beach and watch the sunset. After dinner, Rossi and Derek decide to start setting up the fireworks while everyone else grabbed blankets and beach chairs from the house.
As soon as it was dark and everything was set up, it was time for the fireworks. Jack and Henry were hanging out on a blanket in front of all of the adults. Will and JJ sat the closest to the kids, with Emily and Spencer sitting in chairs next to JJ and Will. Penelope sat in between JJ and Emily, the three excitedly talking about the show they were currently binging. Hotch and Y/N sat next to Will, the group of adults forming a semi-circle around the blanket.
"Are you okay?" Hotch whispered in Y/N's ear when he noticed how tense she was.
"Yeah, just nervous, is all," Y/N said, grabbing Hotch's hand.
"Okay, guys! Are you ready?" Derek shouted from the spot of the beach they had the fireworks set up. Everyone cheered and chatted happily, waiting for the fireworks to start. Jack ran over to Hotch and Y/N and laid across both Hotch and Y/N's laps.
Soon the sky was filled with blasts of colors and their ears were filled with loud booms. Everyone 'oohed' and 'awed' at the bright fireworks against the dark blue sky. Y/N leaned her head against Hotch's shoulder, watching the night sky light up. She flinched with every boom and Hotch held her closely against his side.
"You're okay," Hotch whispered in her ear after a particularly loud round of fireworks caused her to whimper and jump. With every reassurance, her panic melted away. "I've got you, you're okay."
The fireworks lit up the night sky for about thirty minutes before everyone grabbed their chairs and blankets getting ready to go inside.
"He's asleep," Hotch whispered, motioning to his sleeping son.
"You take the chairs and I'll carry him in okay," Y/N said, picking Jack up and balancing him on her hip and his head immediately fell onto Y/N's shoulder. Once Hotch grabbed the chairs, Y/N and him went back into the house, wishing everyone goodnight.
"Let's tuck him in," Y/N said, walking up the stairs to Jack and Henry's room.
"I can carry him, Y/N," Hotch said, worried he was too big for her to carry.
"Love, I got this. I carried him up here earlier today, remember?" Y/N laughed. Once they got to the room, Y/N set Jack on the bed and both her and Hotch tucked him in. Y/N smiled before gently kissing the sleeping boy's forehead and whispering, "Goodnight, bud."
Hotch said goodnight to Jack before he and Y/N left the room. They went back to their room and changed into their pajamas before falling into bed. Hotch pulled Y/N against his chest and kissed her forehead.
"You're really good with him," Hotch said after a few moments of silence. "It makes me really happy to see you guys get along so well."
"He's a really good kid, Aaron," Y/N said, smiling up at her boyfriend. She paused for a second before continuing. "Thank you for today. You helped me more than you'll ever know."
"You're welcome, love. I'd do anything for you," Hotch whispered before kissing her lips gently. "Now come on, let's try and get a full night's sleep, yeah?"
Y/N nodded before snuggling into his chest. "I love you, Aaron Hotchner."
Hotch beamed at her before kissing her forehead. "And I love you, Y/N Y/L/N."

Chapter 1: Neverland
Emma stood at the register, a pile of coins and dollar bills sitting in front of her as she began counting her tips. She had been working nonstop for the last three weeks to save every dime she earned in order to take Henry on a special treat for his birthday. He had seen the flyer in the window of the diner after school one day, immediately calling the carnival to her attention. A traveling amusement park themed to the story of Peter Pan was visiting their town. Henry hadn’t stopped asking questions about it since.
Do fairies really exist?
Can Peter Pan actually fly?
If I really believe do you think I can fly when I’m there too?
With his birthday approaching, Emma knew the best birthday gift she could give him was a trip to the park when it came to town. It was only visiting for three days, and Henry had been completely gutted when they fell on Emma’s weekend at the diner. He had been putting on his best face when she got home from work, her feet tired from standing all day, reciting to her his day, and trying to pretend that he wasn’t disappointed after sitting all day listening to the sounds of the park lofting through his window.
She could barely contain her secret last night when she tucked him into bed, and he told her that he got to spend the day watching Peter Pan skip through the park and it was just as good as being there.
Henry was such a sweet boy, he never asked for things he knew he couldn’t have. He knew that money was tight for them. Emma had been on her own ever since she gave birth to the boy, his father was long out of the picture before he was even born. It wasn’t that the boy was ever without something important, Emma made sure that she saved her money to spend it on things he needed, and when she couldn’t afford it, her best friend, Will Scarlet always pitched in to help her out.
Which was what had happened with Henry’s birthday gift this year. Emma had saved almost enough for the admission price but knew that Henry would want tickets to ride the rides and play a few games, and of course Will tossed some money into the pot, so that the three of them could enjoy the last day of the park together.
“Did you save enough?” She turned to see her boss Mrs. Lucas approach her from the kitchen.
“I made $25 bucks today, I should be able to get him some dinner while we are there.” She said with a smile.
“Get him something from me too while you’re there.” She responded as she held out her hand, a white envelope in her palm. “It’s his birthday after all.”
Emma tentatively took the envelope, lifting the top to see a crisp $20 bill tucked inside. “Gran, you didn’t have to do that.”
“I know, but it’s his birthday, just be sure to tell him it’s from Gran.” She reached out and hugged the woman, a smile growing on her face. The bell above the door made a sound and they both turned to see the customer walk into the diner. “Get out of here, you’re off the clock.”
Emma looked at her watch. “I still have ten minutes left in my shift.”
The woman shook her head and pulled out her notepad to assist the man who sat down at the counter. “Clock must be slow.” She said with a grin. “Get out of here. Take that boy of yours on an adventure.”
“Thank you, see you tomorrow.” She hollered back as she ran out the door to her yellow bug parked outside the diner. She couldn’t wait to get home and tell Henry they were going to Pixie Hollow.
When she opened the door to her apartment, Henry was running circles around the couch as Will chased him through the living room. “You can’t get away from me, mate.”
“You’re too old to catch me.” Henry hollered and Will stopped in his tracks and grabbed his chest.
“Oi, that was quite rude.” He said in a feigned outrage. “I’m not that old.”
Emma laughed and they both turned toward her. “Mom!” Henry ran and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“The lad is being hurtful on his birthday.” Will scoffed.
“Tell your Uncle Will that you’re sorry for calling him old.” She leaned over and whispered. “But say it loudly because his hearing isn’t what it used to be.” Henry fell to the ground in a fit of giggles.
“You know he gets his mean spirted nature from you, right?” Will complained.
“We love you.” She teased as she ran her hand through his short locks and pinched his cheek. She turned and faced Henry.
“Why are you home? I thought you had to work tonight.”
“I wanted to surprise you!” She grinned. “Thought maybe we could go see this Peter Pan you keep talking about.”
Henry’s face brightened. “Seriously? Oh my God.” He squealed “You mean it?”
“Happy birthday, baby.” She smiled. The boy launched himself into her arms. “Ok we gotta get ready to go, get your jacket in case it gets cold after the sun goes down.”
Henry disappeared in a fury to his room to collect his jacket, just as Will’s phone rang.
“Don’t answer it.” Emma protested as he held up the phone and Will groaned.
“It’s work, I can’t ignore it.” Emma groaned as he greeted his boss, a chorus of “Yes, sir” “I know, sir” “Of course, sir.” Carried through the room.
“Yes but I was planning to…” He frowned. “I understand, of course, I’ll be there as soon as I can.” He said sadly. Henry came bounding into the room as he disconnected the call.
“You’re going in to work now?” Emma complained.
“I’m sorry Em, it can’t be helped. They had some sort of emergency, and they need me there right away.”
“So, we aren’t going?” Henry said sadly, looking up between them. Will hesitated, staring between the two. Emma knew he wouldn’t disappoint Henry if it couldn’t be helped.
“I’m sorry lad, I don’t have a choice.”
“We’re still going Henry.” Emma announced.
“Emmie, you can’t go alone.” Will began to protest.
Emma rolled her eyes. “Stop it, I’m an adult. I don’t need you to babysit me everywhere we go.”
“I’m not there to babysit you, I just don’t like it when you and Henry are out late at night without someone else with you.”
“Without a man with me, you mean. I don’t know if you realize this yet, but I don’t need a man, I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself.”
“Are you sure you two will be alright?”
Emma chuckled. “I think I can handle a carnival for children on my own.”
“Alright, but text me when you get there, and again when you get home.”
“Ok dad.” She teased and he slapped her playfully on the arm.
“Happy birthday, Bub.” He picked the boy off the ground and squeezed him. “Don’t have too much fun without me.”
“That’s impossible.” The boy replied.
“Did I tell you that you’re my favorite six-year-old out of all the six-year-old kids out there?”
“But I just turned six. You don’t even know all the six-year-old kids.” Henry wined with a playful smile.
“I don’t have to because you’re still my favorite.”
“You said that when I was five.”
“And I’ll say it when you’re seven or fifteen.” Will said as he sat the boy back on the ground.
“I love you, Uncle Will.”
“Love you too Bub.” He raised his hand, and they exchanged their ridiculous handshake that they had made up when Henry had turned four.
Two taps, spin around, tap down low, shake your booty, tap up high.
It was ridiculous and heartwarming and a reminder of how lucky she was to have such an amazing best friend. Even when she showed up on his doorstep, a positive pregnancy test in her hand, tears streaming down her face, Will simply pulled her into his arms and promised he would always be there for her. Over the years he had been her shoulder to cry on, her Lamaze coach, her sounding board, and her support system. Even with the one drunken misstep that neither of them ever spoke of again, there wasn’t anyone that Emma relied on more than Will.
“Ok I’m off, have fun tonight.” He smiled and left through the front door. As soon as the door closed Henry jumped up and down in front of her.
“Can we go now?” Emma chuckled and pushed him toward the door.
“Of course, let’s go.”
“You have to say it mom.”
“Say what?” She asked, confused on what he was meaning.
“Second star to the right.” He began excitedly.
“And straight on til morning.” She continued as they closed the door to the apartment and made their way to the park across the street. The lights shone bright into the sky with all the rides and attractions that had their own music playing all around them as soon as they entered the park.
Henry could barely contain his excitement as he bounced about from ride to ride. More than once Emma had to remind him to stay close by, not to get too far ahead of her, but the boy was hard to be contained.
“Mom, look, it’s a house of mirrors, can we go, can we go?” He jumped up and down in front of her.
“Ok, but don’t get too far ahead of me.” Emma laughed as he handed his ticket to the man at the front of the attraction. She didn’t like the way the man glared in her direction, there was something about him that made her uncomfortable in a way that caused the hair on the back of her neck to stand on end. Henry ran ahead into the building and Emma yelled for him to wait as the man seemed to take an extra-long time to allow her to enter behind her son.
When he finally raised the gate, she ran toward the fun house, entering the building and exhaling when she saw Henry standing at the corner waiting for her. “Come on mom, this is so cool.”
“It’s very cool.” Emma replied, looking around the disorienting room. The mirrors at all angles making it appear that Henry was in more than one place in front of her.
“You could get lost in here for days.” He joked as he stepped into the room, his arms outstretched in front of him to avoid running into anything.
“Let’s try and avoid getting lost, I’m starting to get hungry.” She joked.
“Come on mom, I bet you can’t find which one is really me.” Henry yelled, rushing forward, and turning a corner until she couldn’t see him anymore.
“Don’t get too far ahead of me.” She warned, turning the corner he was just at and seeing three versions of him in front of her. “Ok which one is my Henry?” She questioned as she stepped forward, her hand coming into contact with a mirror. She then touched the one next to her but that was a mirror as well.
“I’m right here.” Her son mimicked, before running around the corner again.
“You’re too good at this.” She chuckled, turning, and chasing after him until she ran into one of the glass mirrors. She really hated this attraction. “Ok Henry, I’m really getting hungry. Which way did you go?”
“I’m over here.” She heard him toward her left and she turned to stumble in that direction as she caught a glimpse of him just as she turned the corner.
“Henry, can you just stay in one place until I get to you.” Her tone was starting to sound agitated as she felt her way through the glass around her, dipping in and out of the crevices until she reached a dead end.
“Henry, where are you?” She yelled.
“Mom.” She heard him shout and then it got quiet.
“Henry?” She hollered toward the last place she heard his voice. She felt her way through the attraction until she heard music and felt the breeze of the outside, stepping through the small doorway, she found herself on the other side from where they entered. She looked around for Henry, but only saw other children, families standing around the exit area.
“Did you see a little boy come out of here?”
“I’ve seen a lot of little boys.” The guy grumbled and wandered away from her.
“Henry, where are you?” She yelled, trying to control her voice as the terror started to race in her heart. “Henry?” She ran toward the entrance and the man who took her ticket. “Where is my son, did he come back out this way?”
The man frowned, “No one comes back out the front ma’am. Did you check the exit?”
“Of course, I checked the exit, you idiot, how else did I get out here!” She yelled and he turned to take a ticket from another family.
“I need you to find my son.” She grabbed at the lapel of his jacket and turned him back toward her.
“Hands off lady.” The man warned. “I’ll get my manager.”
“Good, get your manager. I need to find my son.”
The family tried to push past her, and Emma stood in front of them, blocking the exit. “My son got lost in there.”
“It’s not my problem that you can’t keep an eye on your boy, get out of my daughter’s way.” The man pushed around her, leading his daughter into the entrance of the attraction.
Emma ran after them, and the ticket idiot was on her heels. “You can’t go in there without another ticket.”
Emma shoved his hands off her, “Get off me, I’m going in there until I find my son.” She screamed, wandering back into the fun house, her heart racing as she turned in every direction screaming her son’s name. “Henry, where are you?” She yelled, pushing forward through the maze. There was no response except for the grumbling of the people in front of her who she continued to push aside in her quest to find her son.
When she reached the exit again she immediately screamed his name, grabbing at random strangers to ask if they had seen her son, a photo of him pulled up on her phone. Suddenly she was grabbed from behind and she turned quickly to see the ticket asshole with a man. “You can’t go around grabbing our customers.” The man sternly growled at her.
“My son is missing. He went in the hall of mirrors, and he didn’t come out.”
“That’s impossible. There is only one way in and one way out. He must have come out; you’ve just lost him.”
“I didn’t lose him.” She cried. “Don’t you have something you can do. Call the cops, make an announcement, just find my son.”
“Of course, I’m Felix. I’m the assistant manager. Let me make a few calls.” He said with a grin that certainly didn’t set her at ease. There was something off about the man, something menacing and scary, and Emma just wanted to get her son and get the hell away from all of them. “Come with me.” He didn’t ask but tugged at her elbow. “Nothing to see here, she just lost her child.” He announced to the people who had suddenly taken an interest in the commotion.
Emma was too concerned about her child to admonish the bystanders for gawking at her, their looks of contention and disappointment apparent on their faces as if they just watched an irresponsible parent simply leave their child by the side of the road instead of the fact that her son vanished without a trace.
“Ok ma’am can you explain to me what you think happened to your son?” The man closed the door to the trailer and gestured for her to take a seat in the dingy office.
“What I know” she paused, “was that my son and I went into the Hall of Mirrors and when I got to the exit, he wasn’t there.”
“Do you normally let your son run off without you?”
“Excuse me?” She stood up from her seat. “He did not run off without me, he was playing in the goddamn funhouse with me in the room.”
“Yes ma’am so you said, however if he was simply playing with you, then you would know where he was, isn’t that correct?”
Emma was done with this man’s treatment of her, she was done with people not ripping that god forsaken fun house to the ground until they came upon her little boy. She pushed her way past the man and shoved the door open, ignoring his plea for her to stay put. As soon as she stepped out of the trailer, two men approached her.
“Are you the woman who lost her son?”
Emma recognized their badges and the names on them from the Sherriff’s station. “Thank God you are here, these idiots won’t do anything to find my son.”
“I’m officer Nolan, and this is officer Locksley, can you tell me what happened?”
Emma took a deep breath, “My son, Henry, he just turned 6, it’s his birthday today.” Tears started to fall down her cheeks. “We went into the Hall of Mirrors, he was playing hide and seek and trying to get me to find him, but then he called out for me, and I couldn’t find him anymore. When I got to the exit, he wasn’t there, and no one can tell me where he is.”
“So, he wasn’t with you in the Hall of Mirrors?”
“Did you just hear me? I told you we went in together. He was only a few feet in front of me, it’s not like I let my fucking kid just run around alone.”
The man held up his hand. “Alright ma’am, there is no need to get upset.”
“No need to get upset.” She stated, shocked at the audacity this man had standing in front of her like everything was normal that was happening to her. “I lost my son. My baby is out there somewhere, and no one will fucking help me.”
Officer Nolan stepped forward and took her by the elbow. “Ma’am, if you keep cursing in front of the children here, we are going to have to take you down to the station to discuss this matter.”
“Matter!” She yelled. “My son is missing; I don’t give a fuck what you think about my goddamn cursing. Find my son!”
“Is it possible that he simply ran away?” The other man asked.
“Ran away? Why would you even think he would run away?”
“Is his father here with you?”
“Why does that matter?”
“I’m simply asking if the boy could be with his father.”
Emma shook her head. “No, his father isn’t around. He’s most definitely not with that asshole.”
“So, the situation with the father, it’s contentious then?”
Emma couldn’t believe the crap she was hearing. “This has nothing to do with his father. He’s lost, he’s probably scared and all you can do is sit here and ask me stupid questions that aren’t doing anything to find him.”
The men looked at each other and nodded, Officer Locksley stepped into the trailer and shut the door behind him. “My partner is just going to talk to the manager and find out if they know anything else.”
“He’s the assistant manager and he knows jack shit.” She said as she rolled her eyes.
The door to the trailer opened and he gestured for his partner to join him. They whispered at the door for a moment and then returned in front of her, closing their notebooks. “Ma’am, I’m going to give you my business card, we can’t do anything about a runaway until after 24 hours. If he still hasn’t come home by then, give us a call.”
“I already fucking told you he’s not a goddamn runaway.”
“Ok ma’am, we’re going to have to take you down to the station if you can’t control yourself.” She felt their hands on her arms and she pulled away from them, holding her hands in the air.
“I’m not going anywhere with you.”
“Well, you can’t stay here.” He announced, looking back at the ridiculous assistant manager who was glaring at her.
“So, I’m supposed to just leave my kid?”
“Most times, they show up in the morning, a little scared, hungry, and apologetic for causing a scare. Go home and get some sleep, they usually show back up at home.”
Emma couldn’t believe this was happening, that she was just supposed to go home and leave Henry out here, lost. She looked toward the fun house, wanting to make a run back to it, wanting to search frantically for anything she could find, but she knew he wasn’t there. Something had happened to Henry.
“Ma’am. We need you to leave or come with us.” They stepped toward her, and Emma backed up from her spot. She surveyed the crowd and then paused.
“I’m going.” She announced, turning on her heels and storming toward the exit. When she got to her house she climbed the stairs, screaming her son’s name, hoping he would answer and explain that he got lost and simply went home, but the house was still, dark, and ominously quiet. She went into Henry’s room and pulled open the curtains, the lights from the fair spilling into the window. She pulled the chair over to the wall and sat down, staring at the scene in front of her. She would wait there until she found him, until he made his way back to the house.
Looking down at her phone, she sent another text to Will asking him to call her immediately. Pulling a blanket around her she sat and waited.
Henry, where are you?
~*~
Henry woke with a start, a painful beating in his head. He reached up and winced at the swollen knot on the back of his skull. He looked around in the dark, trying to figure out where he was. Just moments ago he was in the Hall of Mirrors with his mom, they were playing a game. He remembered seeing her, just a few feet away and then his back hit something solid and then it moved. Arms reached out and grabbed him and then everything went black.
He felt around on the ground below him, dirt digging into his fingernails. There was a small light coming in from a tiny opening up high in the room. He groaned as he tried to sit up.
“Don’t sit up too quickly, I’m sure you’re dizzy.”
He jumped at the sound of a female in the room. “Who’s there?”
A face came into view, the light streaming into the dark onto her golden hair. “It’s ok, just give it a minute. You can see in the dark after you get used to it.”
“My head hurts.” He groaned.
“It will only hurt for a couple of days. Then it will go away.” The girl moved closer to him, sitting down next to him.
“What do you want with me?”
“I’m a friend, I’m not going to hurt you.”
“Where are we?”
“Underground. I don’t know really. We move around a lot.”
“Who’s we?”
“Pan’s crew.” The girl said softly, and Henry almost started laughing.
“As in Peter Pan? I must be dreaming. That’s what’s going on. This is a nightmare.”
“I wish it were, but sadly this is real. What’s your name?”
Henry peered at the girl in front of him. “I’m Henry.” Suddenly the shadows moved behind her and he pushed back against the wall.
“Don’t be afraid, they won’t hurt you.”
Henry stared at the faces of the children staring back at him. “Who are you people?”
“We’re the lost ones. Just like you.” She said sadly.

Last Voyage
Summary: Emma surprises Killian with an old fashioned voyage with his old crew then Killian has a surprise for Emma
*cough cough*
“You alright?”
“Fine love. Just needed to clear my throat.”
Killian and Emma were walking along the beach in the early morning slowly making their way to the docks.
“We’re almost there.”
“What’s with all the secrecy love?”
Emma smiles up at him there was a shine in her eyes, “You’ll see.”
They made their way down the pier where the Jolly Roger was docked.
“Do you wish to have another one of our private adventures aboard the Jolly Roger? If that’s all you could have just said Swan.”
“Not this time.”
They made their way into the deck where they were greeted by some familiar faces.
“Welcome aboard Captain.”
Before them stood Henry, Hope, Smee and some of his old crew.
Killian smiled while also furrowing his brow. Turning to his wife for answers.
“I thought you might wish to have a day at sea. Re-live your glory days.”
“My glory days started the day I met you Swan.” Picking up her hand and placing a kiss on the back of it. “Will you be joining me, love?”
“No,” she whispered, “not this time. I have somethings to take care of.”
He turned to Henry and Hope. He approached them with open arms.
“Then it’s looks like we’ll be having all the fun. Don’t worry love I’ll have them back before Sundown and we will eagerly enrapture you with our tales of our adventurous day.”
Henry looked down before meeting his eyes, “Actually we promised mom we’d help her with her stuff today. Maybe tonight we can play dice. I might just beat you this time.”
“Oh then perhaps I should give Dave a call. Show him what a pirates life was like.”
Henry shifted clearing his throat before saying, “Uh Grandpa is taking care of the sheriff office while we are helping mom today. Sorry but you stuck with your old crew for today.”
Killian nodded at Henry before turning his attention to his daughter. She had the same shine in her eyes as her mother, biting her lip, looking anywhere but at him.
“What’s wrong lass?”
She inhaled a deep breath before speaking, “Nothing Papa. I’ll just miss you.”
He cupped his daughters face, “Don’t worry, my little cygnet. I’ll be home tonight.”
She nodded embracing him. She burrows her face in his chest breathing him in. “I love you Papa.”
Killian squeezes his daughter not sure what has her so distraught, “I love you to my little cygnet. From your first breath far beyond my last.”
Hope let go heading to the gang plank quickly, without another glance to her father.
Henry approached the man that’s been a mentor, a father figure to him. Wrapping him in his arms, “Good bye Killian.”
Letting go he followed his sister down the gang plank waiting for his mother at the bottom.
Killian turned to see the love of his life standing there. She took slow step towards him her eyes never leaving his. Reaching up held his face, her eyes scanned every inch.
“What’s wrong Emma?”
She’s hooked her head offering him a smile, “Nothing. It just. . . sometimes I can’t believe that blacksmith I tied to a tree that said I need him alive would be so right.”
Killian chuckled, “Aye. Sometimes I can’t believe I forgot about that damned bar wench that kissed the hell out of me.”
She smiled, leaning up catch his lips in a soft kiss. Pulling away she rested her forehead against his, “I love you Killian. Thank you for everything.”
“I love you too Emma. Forever and always.”
Her hands slid down his cheeks to his neck over his shoulders down his arm grasping his hook and hand. Her eyes never leaving his, she started backing away holding onto his hand until she was to far away to hold on any more. Letting her hand fall she turned making her way off the ship. Henry reaches out his hand to help her off the last step intertwining her arm with him.
“When did you become such a gentleman?”
“I’m always a gentleman mom. I learned from the best.”
They made their way up the pier. They say and watched as the ship set sail. Her Captain on the quarter deck waving to his family before turning to wheel where he belonged.
As they stood watching Hope couldn’t hold in her emotions anymore. A sob escaped her lips, as tears started pouring out her eyes. “He should be home. We should be with him.”
Emma embraces her daughter, “That’s never how he wanted to go.”
“But he was fine. He was walking and knew who we were.”
“He also thought Grandpa was alive. He didn’t see us. He probably saw you as the little girl who would ask him to close the window so Peter Pan couldn’t get her. He probably saw me as the ten year old boy he helped rescue from Neverland.”
Emma pulled away looking at her children who have grown into adults that stood before her now.
“Yes but he is so proud of the people you have become. He was so happy to be a father and be apart of this family. He loves you both so much.”
Hope let out another sob as Henry wrapped an arm around her, letting one lone tear slide down his cheek.
“Besides it’s for the best he didn’t see me as I am now. A wrinkly old crown with gray straw for hair,” Emma let out a breathy laugh.
Henry shook his head, “He saw you as you actually are. He always has. The beautiful Savior.”
Emma smiled at her son, “Come on let’s go home.”
Later Emma was going through some things in their room. Remembering all the good times they’ve shared in this house. The wonderful life he shared with her.
She opened his night stand finding the copy of Treasure Island she gave him.
“This is ridiculous. This person obviously had no idea what they were bloody talking about,” Killian muttered.
Emma rolled over, “Babe Go to bed.”
“This book is an atrocity love.”
“Then stop reading it.”
“Why would I do that when they just started the mutiny?”
She laughed to herself. She would always try showing him how this realm reviews pirates with movies and books. Every time he would get riled up but any time she suggested to turn it off or throw the book out he would refuse having to see how it ends.
The next thing she pulled out was a familiar black scarf.
“So now you’re a gentleman?”
“Giants can smell blood. And I’m always a gentleman.” Hook said before putting liquid on her hand.
“Ah! Ow! What is that?”
“Rum and a bloody waste of it.”
He gently wrapped her hand with the soft material tying it off with his mouth. Her fingers lightly brushing against his cheek.
Emma sighed remembering the spark she felt. Wondering not for the first time how much more time they would’ve had if she trusted him. If they came back together. How different their adventures would’ve been.
Something shiny caught her eye and she reached in and pulled out the last item in the drawer.
It was one of his hooks.
Killian kicked open their bedroom door while his lips fused to her. Her legs wrapped around his hips her latched around his neck.
Coming up for air Emma whispers, “Never do that again.”
“I’ll never leave your side even if the gods try to rip us a apart,” he promised before capturing her lips again.
Falling onto the bed they began divesting each other of their clothing. Killian reaches to take off his hook. Emma reaches her hand up, only in her bra and underwear, looking at him through her eyelashes.
“Leave it on.”
Killian groans, “You little minx.”
Emma sighed. As the memory fades away. So many nights, and some days, filled with passion. Both of them always willing to show the other how much they love them. Always up to meet a challenge.
Moving to put the items back in their respective places the book falls from her lap and clatters to the floor. Emma places the scarf and hook back before reaching down picking up the book. When she lifts it a note falls from its pages. Placing the book on the bed she once again reaches down and grabs the fallen piece of paper.
Unfolding it she is greeted with Killian hand writing.
‘Dearest Swan,
I’m sorry. I never wished to leave and now I have no choice in the matter. It seems to be a cruel joke. To be sent back to you by the gods themselves only to have my mind unravel while I’m still with you. I know I don’t have much time left. And I plan to cherish every moment with you I can.
When I do go, all I wish is to be at your side. For the last thing I hold is our family in my arms. The last thing I touch be your face. The last thing I taste be you lips. The last thing I see is the love in your eyes for me. If I am to drawn my last breath I wish it is your kiss that steals it.
And when I am gone. I will keep my promise I made all those years ago. I will move on but I promise you no heaven the gods can provide will compare to the life I have lived with you.
You are the love on my life. The mother of my children. My wife. My savior. My true love.
However long we are apart that will never change. My love will stay with you and I hope give you comfort in your time of need. And when it is your time I can only hope that the gods will once again reunite us.
Until then I ask that every day you live. Hug our children and give them an extra squeeze for me.
With all my love. Yours from the end of the realms and time.
Killian’
Tears fell freely from her eyes. They were never sure if Killian knew what was happening to him. Now she had proof that he did.
A noise pulled her from her thoughts. Still clutching the note to her chest she made her way downstairs. Sharp knocking was coming from her front door.
She opened it to find a pair of blue eye that she engraved into her memory.
“Killian.”
He bent down wrapping her in his arms, burying his face in her neck.
“Sorry ma’am I know you weren’t expecting us so soon but he insisted on turning around and coming home,” Smee explained his signature hat in his hands.
“That’s alright. Thank you for bringing him home.”
Smee nodded, closing the door as he left.
“Why did you send me away love?”
“I thought you’d like to be at sea when the time came.”
Killian finally lifted his head, his gaze burning into her, “Don’t you know Swan all I have ever wanted was to be with you.”
Emma gave him a sad smile, “I do now.”
They made their way up to their bed laying down curling up together one last time. They not sure how long they laid there just enjoying their time together.
Killian reaches up brushing a stray strand of hair out of her face. “I think it’s time love.”
Emma nodded scooting closer.
“I don’t want to leave you alone.”
“You aren’t,” she said with a shaky breath her lip quivering, “You will always be with me. And I’ll follow you shortly.”
She leaned up capturing his lips once last time. She pulls away resting her forehead against his.
“I love you Emma Swan,” he whispered.
She watched as the deep blue eyes that looked last all her walls that have always saw her closed for the last time.
A tear fell from her eye landing on his cheek sliding down his face.
“I love you Killian Jones.”

Would you write a story about Addison, Henry and Jake visiting Amelia for a few days and Ellis or Bailey or Zola being really jealous of Henry and that he calls her Aunty Amelia because she's their aunt and not his.
Homage
a/n: hi! thank you for the prompt and I hope you enjoy this!
---------------
"Who the hell is knocking on our door at 9 AM?" Amelia groaned, shifting her son onto her other hip. "Are your parents coming to visit again?" Link shrugged and pushed past her gently, rubbing his tired eyes as he opened the door and pulled on a mask.
"Hello-oh," Link's eyebrows rose, and Amelia paused from in the kitchen.
"Who is it?" She waited for a minute, pouring cereal into a bowl and placing it in front of Ellis at the table. "Elle, go grab the milk," she muttered, rushing towards the door.
"Amelia!" Her eyes widened at the familiar face in the doorway, and before she could think, she was rushing towards Addison for a hug.
"Addie, what the hell are you doing here? Oh, crap," Amelia pulled away and grabbed a mask from the table by the door.
"We all got tested this morning, don't worry. I came to visit you! You can't just have a baby and not expect me to visit; god, he's so adorable!" The red-headed woman held her arms out and grabbed Scout, immediately pressing her nose to his head. "I miss having a baby; their heads smell so amazing." Link laughed softly and pulled his mask off.
"Oh, Addie, you haven't met Link yet," Amelia leaned into his body, wide grins across both of their faces as he wrapped his arm around her.
"We've met over the phone, Amy."
"Amelia."
"Right, sorry. I knew if I called, you would've said no, and we all needed a vacation." Addison bounced her nephew up and down, smiling as he grabbed at her necklace.
"Is someone else here? You said we all," Amelia muttered under her breath, stepping out onto the porch. "Jake!" She ran down the steps and into the driveway, grinning as she wrapped her arms around her friend's neck.
"It's good to see you, Amelia," he opened the door to reveal Amelia's godson, much bigger than the last time she'd seen him.
"Henry! You're so big, now!" She picked him up, placing a kiss on his cheek before setting him down.
"I'll be honest; I never thought I would see the day when Amelia Shepherd was chasing four kids around all day," Jake mused, taking his son's hand. Amelia grinned.
"Neither did I, if I'm honest." They walked back up to the porch, where Link and Jake shook each other's hands firmly, their partners both rolling their eyes at the sight of their seriousness. "Okay, are you done?" Amelia grabbed her boyfriend's arm. "There are three very impatient kids in that house, and we should probably get back in there." They led Addison, Jake, and Henry into the house, introducing each of them to the children. Eventually, Link and Jake led all of the children outside, leaving Addison and Amelia alone with the baby.
"I like him," Addison brought her mug of tea up to her lips, taking a sip slowly before continuing. "Link, he seems like the perfect guy. Awfully tall, though."
"He is. Both tall and perfect," Amelia grinned. "I'm waiting for Jake to come back in here and tell me what he thinks. He was always a little overprotective of who I was dating, so if he can get past Jake, everything's fine." The neurosurgeon lifted her son from his play mat, holding him close to her as she approached her sister again.
"He looks exactly like Derek when he was a baby."
"You think?" Addison nodded.
"Mhm. I spent far too much time in your mother's house panning through dusty photo albums and staring at photos of him as a baby to not see it." She set her mug down, holding her arms out. "Have you told your Mom?"
"I did. She said she'd come and visit after the pandemic is over, but I'm pretty sure that'll never happen," Amelia handed Scout to her sister, picking up her own cup of tea. "I'm fine with it. Link's parents are both great, and his Mom honestly treats me like the daughter she's never had, so I don't need my Mom to come out here and validate all of my life decisions."
"You want her here. I said the same thing for a while, telling myself I didn't need Bizzy to approve of anything, but it feels good to have the support." Amelia sighed, easing her empty mug into the kitchen sink.
"So, you just showed up here to therapist me? I would've told you to at least bring Violet for that."
"Amelia, I'm just saying. You've built this whole life for yourself, the perfect boyfriend, your own family, your dream job, and I know you haven't always been close with your biological family."
"Haven't ever been close," Amelia muttered.
"Still. That doesn't mean that you can't build relationships with them. Think about how spoiled Scout would get on every birthday and holiday; gifts from his grandparents, aunts, cousins, friends, parents, everyone." The neurosurgeon shrugged her shoulders and remained silent. "But, whatever happens, you know I'll be here for you, right?"
"You don't have to try and parent me anymore; you know that?" Addison began to pace around the kitchen space, bouncing Scout up and down to calm his light fussing.
"I still feel protective over you, Amelia. I haven't seen you in person in years, and we both know that talking over the phone is so much different than being able to see you. I'm going to be coming up here a lot more often now; I have Scout as an excuse to come and visit." Scout cooed at the sound of his name, placing his tiny hand on Addison's face. "He's way too adorable for me to see all of his life through a screen. I'll be coming up at least three times a year."
"You've gotta bring Henry every time, too," Amelia looked outside, where her boyfriend was chasing her godson around the yard. "And Jake. I missed all of you; maybe Link and I will start coming down to L.A. a few times a year. He'd love to go surfing."
"Mm, maybe you two should just move down there." Amelia rolled her eyes.
"Well, if Meredith doesn't get better, Link and I get custody of the kids, and I doubt we'd be moving if that happens."
"For whatever it's worth, you're doing an incredible job with all of them. Having a newborn is no joke, and you're parenting three other kids during a pandemic on top of that? Charlotte keeps saying it's your payback for teasing her about the triplets." The door opened, and Link walked through with Ellis on his back, her giggles causing everyone to smile.
"Someone took a nasty fall, but we thought it would be better with a juice box," he walked towards the fridge and opened it, leaning down so Ellis could grab a juice box from the refrigerator.
"Auntie Amelia?" She looked over to see Henry standing in the doorway. "Can Scout come outside to play with us?" Amelia grinned and took Scout from her sister, walking over to where Henry was standing.
"You have to be super gentle with him," she whispered, leading Henry back outside. "Why don't I give Scout to your Dad, and he can make sure that everyone's being safe, okay?" Henry nodded enthusiastically and ran over to his father, tugging at the leg of his pants as Jake took Scout. "If he fusses, just walk around. The movement calms him down."
"Are you all gonna come back outside or just pawn off all the children on me?" Amelia laughed and crossed her arms over her chest, watching as her son snuggled into Jake's body.
"I'll go get Addison and Link," she muttered, heading back over to the door and calling for them.
"Auntie Amelia? I have a question," Ellis whispered, holding her arms up to her aunt. Amelia lifted her and sat down at the picnic table.
"What is it, Elle?"
"Why does Henry call you Auntie Amelia? You're my Auntie Amelia, not his." She shook her head in amusement, brushing back some of Ellis' blonde hair.
"Well, Addison is my sister too, just like your Mom is, so I'm Henry's Auntie, too." Ellis pouted her lip out.
"But you love me more, right?"
"I love you all, Elle; I don't love one of you more than the other." Amelia began to braid her niece's hair as she spoke, Ellis' eyes falling to where Link was playing with Henry and Bailey. "You're my niece, and Henry is my nephew. Just like I'm your aunt, and Maggie is also your aunt. That doesn't mean that you love one of us more,"
"You're my favorite Auntie." Amelia laughed softly, biting her lip to hide the satisfaction she felt.
"Well, I don't have a favorite. I love all of you, but I'm excited to see Henry right now because I never get to see him. I get to see you every day, Elle." The brunette tied a hairband around her niece's hair and hugged the girl lightly before standing up. "Let's go play with them, okay?" Ellis took her hand, and they walked over to the playscape, where Ellis quickly scampered up the ladder to the top of the structure. "How long are you staying?" She asked Jake as he paced around the lawn, bouncing Scout up and down.
"We're up here for a week. Figured we'd spend some time with you, go up to Mount Rainier, just do anything to give Henry a change of scenery." He moved to stand next to Amelia. "I like Link. He seems good, more relaxed than I expected for someone you'd be dating." Her mouth fell open before quickly turning up into a smirk.
"Hey, I haven't managed to corrupt him yet. I'm sure next time you come to visit, he’ll be a pessimist."
"Are you happy? Because last time I saw you, this was the life you didn't want to live. Every time someone brought out a baby, you'd practically gag and complain about women and babies."
"You know, I never thought I wanted this, but honestly? I wouldn't trade it for anything." She looked over at her son, his bright blue eyes staring back at her. "I'm happy, Jake. I really am."

The New Life of a Dying Afton
Michael walks himself to Henry's house, gutted and disintegrating like a zombie. Henry tries to help him as best he can, and reprimands him for breaking their personal past promises.
This fanfic prompt came up after the following question ran through my head: How would Henry react to scooped Michael? This is my take on it! However, I will warn you: it's dark, gorey and quite sad at times. Though it ends on a bittersweet note, it won't change the general tone and gore within the beginning.
So despite that: here's the fanfic.
Henry was watching TV at home, trying to unwind from his day at work. It was getting tiring trying to work the long shifts these days. It was getting painful too. Some of the mechanical engineering he did in his 20’s were starting to get to him and his physical body now. His back often ached and his right hand would grow more and more painful the longer he worked any kind of machinery. Guess you could say he’s going through the Dirty 30’s of his life. Most of the time the pains and aches didn’t come till the 40’s or 50’s! But some people are just unlucky, I guess.
Henry looked at the time on his watch and sighed as he got up and started to make himself dinner. His wife was out hanging out with a few friends, leaving him to eat dinner alone. He threw some leftover lasagna into the microwave and set it to an estimated time. While he waited patiently for it to warm up, Henry grabbed the newspaper and read it for anything even slightly interesting.
He felt like a retired person: depressed, working a small part time job and living in a small, semi-old house. It worked for what he did, but he sometimes missed the good old days. The days William was a good person with only a quirky personality to prove his eventual criminal mind. It’s strange looking back now, remembering the little things he’d do that would later make sense after killing those children. He remembered the times Will would grow numb and distant, especially after something tragic happened. Example: When Chris died. Now, Henry knew that any death was capable of changing a person.
But William...almost snapped and remained that broken way up until he went missing. He almost lost it when he found out a second Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria was going to open. Why was he the only one who wanted to throw away the Fazbear Entertainment Business for good?! Was it even salvageable after the killings and the Bite of 87?! He really wanted the whole nightmare in his 20’s to be over. But the Fazbear Entertainment was not helping him to stop thinking about it. They just HAD to try and get profit off the animatronic business. He had sadly started a chain of circumstances that he can’t let go of for his life.
Even though he wasn’t the killer, Henry still felt partly responsible for the huge mess he made of things.
Henry’s thoughts were quickly pushed aside as he heard a knock on the door. Henry looked up and looked over at the microwave. It still had a few seconds left. So, Henry stopped the microwave and walked to the door.
He opened up the door. “Hello-”
Henry shouted in horror and just about died from a heart attack right there on the spot! ZOMBIE!
Henry fell his butt and scooted himself back as the zombie held his hands out. “Henry hold on!” it told him.
IT KNEW HIS NAME?! OH NO! “AAAAAH! SH- SHIT! STAY AWAY FROM ME!”
Henry tried to kick the door shut on the crippled, dead looking thing. But to his horror, the walking corpse grabbed his ankle! Henry SHRIEKED as loud as he could!
“HENRY! Henry, it’s me, Michael!” The corpse yelled to him. “Look!” The corpse pulled out his wallet and showed him his health card with a picture on it.
“YOU- YOU STOLE THAT!” Henry tried to tell himself out loud as he looked up at the face. “IT CAN’T BE! MICHAEL’S ALIVE AND FIT, AND-” Henry words started to fade as he immediately recognized the face of the poor boy he knew so well. “I-” He took the health card from him and held it up beside the face of the walking corpse.
Holy crap...it looked EXACTLY LIKE HIM! Except, it looked like Michael hadn’t taken a bath or brushed his hair in weeks! To make things worse, it looked like something under his shirt had been bleeding heavily and staining the shirt.
Henry dropped the health card in pure shock and covered his mouth. “What happened to you?!” He asked as he started to stand up.
Tears started falling down Michael’s darkening cheeks as he reached his hands out, visibly begging for a hug. Henry quickly acted, pulling him into a worried but loving hug. Michael wrapped his arms around him as well, and started crying into his shoulder. He was mentally exhausted from everything he had just been through. He was even partially holding himself up.
Henry rubbed his back and tried to ignore the slightly ghastly smell that was coming from him. He really looked like he was rotting from the outside in. He was secretly hoping the smell was just body oil drowning his skin, pores and scalp. Strangely enough though, Michael didn’t feel moist. He felt...dry. Like super dry. Like heavy amounts of Eczema was covering and destroying his skin bit by bit.
Henry finally pulled away and cupped his purple cheeks. “You...I hate to be that kind of person, but…” Henry brought his hands to his shoulders instead. “You look like shit!”
Michael guffawed somewhat quietly and cracked a yellow, lobsided smile. “I know…” He told him.
“How did this happen? And...do you need some cream?” Henry asked, slightly laughing despite the pain and confusion of seeing Michael so distressed and disfigured.
Michael looked at the back of his own hand, and nodded. “Yes please.” Michael replied, staring at the exposed skin where his nails used to be.
Henry grabbed some cream from the bathroom and handed it to him. Michael sat down on a chair in the living room, and removed the bottle cap. While that was happening, Henry got up and headed to the kitchen to get his presumably hot food from the microwave. He checked his food, and smiled when it felt nice and warm. Henry pulled his lasagna out of the microwave, and walked out to the living room again to check on his less-than-okay nephew.
Michael was putting strips of cream onto his arm and...patting the cream onto his skin instead of rubbing it. Henry widened his eyes and blinked in confusion. That is not how you put cream on. Literally no one puts cream on like that! “Uuuuuh...Doooo you want help? You act like you’ve never put cream onto your skin before.” Henry asked.
“I’m fine.” Michael replied.
HA! That’s a laugh and a half. He is most certainly NOT okay!
“If I rub the cream on like normal, I’ll remove all the skin that’s dying. So I have to be very gentle.” Michael admitted.
Henry blinked and frowned. “Then...is it even worth the fuss?” Henry asked.
“No. But it feels nice and cool.” Michael replied.
“Would...would you rather you had a bath?” Henry asked, placing his lasagna down.
“I’ve tried bathing. But...the skin and hair just falls off and clogs everything.” Michael admitted.
Henry just about gagged at that. Gosh...Whatever happened to him, must be such a pain. He looked down at his plate and...gave it a push away from him. He was quickly losing his appetite. “So what exactly happened to you? Did you get hit with radiation? Are you dying?” Henry asked. “It sounds like radiation poisoning to me. Did you hear about that Nuclear Reactor explosion that happened in Russia?” Henry added.
Michael shook his head.
“A nuclear reactor exploded, and they predict hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to radiation. Hair falling off, skin dying out, and skin color change are all part of it.” Henry explained.
Michael shook his head. “No. I wasn’t exposed to radium. But I did get hit with a metal scooping system.” Michael explained.
Henry tilted his head. “Scooper?”
Michael sighed. “A huge device that looks like an ice cream scooper, that destroys animatronics.” Michael explained.
Henry blinked and quickly looked at him. Did he just say animatronics?!
“Wait wait wait…” Henry pinched the bridge of his nose and rubbed his eyes. “You didn’t get yourself a job at the old pizzeria, did you?” Henry asked.
Michael shook his head. “Circus Baby’s Pizza-”
“Oh my fucking- MICHAEL!” Henry yelled. “We talked about this! I don’t want you having anything to do with your crazy fucking father! I know it’s probably curiosity that led you to do this, but come on!” Henry reacted. “Did none of that curious cat story stick to you at all?!” Henry asked.
Michael groaned. “That was 6 years ago.” Michael reacted.
“Still! It still applies here. The cat wanted to know what was at the bottom of the well, and tried to swim to get down there. But: she died before she got to see the bottom. One small question about your father, and now look at you! Rotting right in front of me!” Henry reacted.
Michael just chuckled at that. “Hey look: I died after getting my answer.”
“MICHAEL! Death is NOT a joke.” Henry spat at him. “You of all people should know that by now.”
“It can be if it happens enough times.” Michael admitted.
Henry stood up, walked right up to Michael and slapped him across the face. Michael widened his eyes and held his hand up to his own face. “That’s for not listening to me and getting yourself scooped like an ice cream tub.” Henry shot at him.
Michael frowned. “Don’t use ice cream as an allegory. I’ve heard it plenty enough for a lifetime from Elizabeth.”
Michael’s angry face morphed into surprise. “You...you found Elizabeth?” Henry asked.
“Mm hmm...Baby’s eyes changed color to match Elizabeth’s eyes.” Michael explained. “And...she was scooped too.”
Henry frowned. “Did you find anyone else while you were there?” Henry asked.
“Besides a ballerina whose voice strangely reminds me of my mother...no.” Michael replied.
Henry sighed and sat himself down. “Come on: let’s...cover up the tub drain with a drain cover, and let’s get you a bath ready.” Henry decided.
Michael looked up at him and looked down again. Something was up with him. But...he wasn’t saying anything.
“Are you gonna tell me what’s wrong? Or am I gonna have to guess?” Henry asked.
Michael sighed again and started to lift up his shirt. Henry gasped and covered his mouth in panic as he looked at what was left of Michael’s middle. It was just a big, rotting hole of purple with only the lower ribs to identify specifically what was missing.
“Does…” Henry almost felt the need to put his hand in between the hole. “Does it hurt?” He asked, holding his hand out.
Michael gently took Henry’s hand and led it into the hole. The moment his hand went an inch deep without touching anything, Henry pulled his hand away and shook his head in disgust and fear. “It’s okay. Look:” Michael stuck his own hand into the hole, deeper and deeper. Until, he flinched slightly from the strange feeling of his hand touching his spine and nerves. Henry yelped and covered his mouth with his fist with anxiety filling him. He was so nervous he was gonna drop dead at any moment.
Michael removed his hand and gave Henry a smile to show ‘everything’s weird, but fine’. Though the deep red blood on the boy’s hand didn’t help much.
Henry almost shivered. “You sir...are really testing my stomach.” Henry mentioned.
Michael giggled and brought his bloody hand closer to Henry’s face! Henry shrieked and fell right off the couch! Michael bursted out laughing at the reaction, and got up to clean his hand.
“Ew ew ew ew gross- That’s the most inappropriate thing you could’ve done!” Henry reacted.
Michael just leaned forward against the sink and laughed at him. Henry’s reaction was perfect!
“Oh! OH! You wanna laugh now? Alright, you asked for it!” Henry stood right up, walked up to Michael and started tickling his ribs.
Michael yelped. “AAAHAHA! HENRY, WAHAHAIT!”
“WOW! Dead, purple, but still ticklish as ever!” Henry reacted. “Guess your death hasn’t killed off your nerves yet.” Henry brought Michael against the counter, turned him around to lean against his back, and continued attacking his ribs.
“STAHAHAHAP IHIHIHIT! WHYHYHYHY?!” Michael asked, through his strong laughter.
“Why?! Because not only did you manage to break the many rules we agreed on, but you managed to nearly get yourself killed!” Henry reacted.
Michael grabbed Henry’s hands and held them away as he tried to breathe. “Hohohold ohohon…”
“Okay, okay. Take your time.” Henry allowed him.
Michael looked up at him. “Ihihi...Why though? Why did I live after...getting scooped?” Michael asked. He didn’t wanna tell Henry about Ennard, knowing he’ll flip even more if he mentioned a sentient animatronic that wanted to disguise himself.
Henry’s looked down a little and bit his lip. “Well…” He took a moment to think of how he was gonna tell him. “The only way I can describe it...is by giving it a name. I call it ‘The Afton curse’.” Henry explained with an awkward chuckle.
Michael frowned. “...Ouch. I know my family has a bad wrap, but I’m still an Afton too.” He admitted.
“I know, I know. It affects more than just the Afton family as well. Example: my little Charlie.” Henry admitted.
Michael looked down.
“Basically: The Afton family and those who’ve known William, have the unfortunate habit of possessing animatronics.” Henry explained. “But you seem to have gone down a new option: zombifying.” Henry explained.
Michael lifted an eyebrow. “You sound like an alien conspiracy theorist.” He told him.
“I know, I know. But it’s the only way I can explain the ‘possessing animatronics’ thing.” Henry mentioned. “Also, it doesn’t exactly help that the children William killed also rotted in the animatronics.” Henry added.
Michael made a disgusted face. “Great...I’m rotting without an animatronic to hold me together. And I’m stuck with this family curse because I’m genetically linked to a killer.” Michael groaned. “I have never wanted to slap my father across the face more than I do now.” Michael admitted.
Henry laughed a little. “Don’t we all?”
Michael smiled at that. “Can we...stop talking about the ‘Afton curse’? And maybe go back to the ‘You died! Time to tickle you!’ thing?” Michael asked.
Henry laughed and was taken back. “Really?!”
If Michael could have blushed, he probably would’ve at that very moment. “I mean...yeah! I kinda feel like laughing-” Michael’s explanation was quickly interrupted by a pair of hands tickling his ribs again. “HeheheHEHAHAHAHAHA! OHBOY- OKAHAHAYHYHYHY!”
“I don’t think I fully remember just how ticklish you are. I doubt you even remember either! It’s probably been a while since you were last tickled.” Henry admitted.
“YOHOHOHOU THIHIHIHINK?” Michael reacted.
“Yes! Now hush. I wanna hear some squeals and snorts from you.” Henry ordered jokingly as he lifted one of his arms up.
“HEHEHEHEhehehe...Henry, don’t even think about it!” Michael ordered. Henry only smirked at this and wiggled his fingers really close to his armpit. Michael yelped and developed a wobbly smile with nervous giggles spilling out.
Henry couldn’t stop his evil facade from breaking. He soon dropped his wiggling hand and started laughing. “Ihihi’m nohot even tickling you!” He reacted.
Michael tittered into the side of his closed fist. “Cahahause ihihit’s the suspehehense!” He explained.
“The suspense? For something you told me you wanted?” Henry mentioned. He started wiggling his fingers again and finally touched down on the vulnerable armpit. Michael shrieked like a bat, and completely lost himself in his laughter. “Wow!” Henry reacted. “I don’t mean to sound insulting, but you sound a little like the Joker.” Henry admitted.
“HEHEHEHEY! IHIHIHIHI’M OHOHOFEHEHEHE-”
“Offended? Did I offend the son of a famous killer? Are you gonna vow vengeance on me and get him to kill those who bully you?” Henry teased.
“WHAHAHAHA?! HAHAHAHAHA NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!” Michael shook his head and kicked his feet wildly.
“Oh, you’re not?! Thank goodness! I would’ve been a goner!” Henry teased.
Michael kicking started to reach Henry’s belly and waist, leading Henry to grab his feet. “Hey now! Who told you you could kick me?” Henry asked.
Michael’s laughter fell into giggles once again, mixed with panting. “Sohohohohorryhyhyhyhy.” Michael told him.
“I’ll forgive you, but you gotta promise me-” Henry pulled off his socks, “you’ll never try and kick me again.” he started skittering his fingers onto his foot.
Michael threw his head back and snorted before falling into rapid giggles. “Hehehehehehehenryhyhyhyhyhy! Nahahahahahahaha!”
“Wow! You’re still able to talk after all this? Your lungs must’ve grown extra strong when you died!” Henry teased, giving Michael’s chest a couple pats.
Michael’s giggles paused, and were quickly replaced with coughs. Henry quickly let his foot go, walked up to Michael and patted his back to help him cough it out.
“Ohohow...Ow. I think my lungs are broken.” Michael admitted.
“Was tickling you a little too much?” Henry asked.
Michael shook his head. “No. I needed that. Thank you.”
Henry smiled and fluffed his hair. “You’re welcome.”
Michael’s eyes went cross-eyed when he felt a bunch of his dead hair falling down his face. It felt weird. Henry widened his eyes and looked down at his own hand:
It was completely covered in Michael’s hair.
Henry looked down at his hand, back up at Michael, back at his hand and back up at Michael again. Not sure how to react, Henry rubbed the hair from his hand onto Michael’s chest. Michael laughed at this and just took it. Guess all the zombie jokes can be made. Starting after his drain-clogging bubble bath.

It’s Not Christmas Without You Ch. 7
Summary: Emily and JJ finally have some time to talk with each other.
Read on AO3
Two days had passed since the family made Christmas cookies and Maggie had captured the joyful moments of her family on camera. Everything seemed to turn out successful in the children’s plan of getting their parents back together, as JJ and Emily looked as happy as they did before, if not happier.
Henry, Maggie, and Michael were already in their rooms, fast asleep. It was late into the night, and Emily and JJ decided to have some time to catch up with each other. JJ was sitting on the couch in the living room with the blue blanket Emily lent her, waiting for Emily. The older woman came back with a bottle of wine, a corkscrew, and two glasses.
“Oh, yes,” JJ groans, tilting her head back with a smile.
Emily smiles as she sets the items down on the table. “I know you’re a white wine type of gal, but I think this is perfect for the occasion.”
Sitting down next to JJ, she opened the bottle with the corkscrew, twisting the cork until it was loose enough for Emily to take it off. She poured the wine into each glass before giving one to JJ.
“Cheers,” JJ said as they clinked their glasses together and drank their wine. Swallowing it down her throat, JJ lowers her glass and holds it in her lap. With an impressed hum, she lifted her glass to look at the wine inside. “This is really good,” she comments and takes another sip. “Where’d you get this?”
“From my grandfather’s vineyard,” Emily answers. “I’ve been working there ever since I got to the Alps. I bottled this one early this year, so it’s pretty good. I would send Rossi one, just to show off my vast knowledge about winery.”
JJ chuckles at that. “I’ll brag to him about it for you, if you want,” she jokes with a wink, causing Emily to laugh. “Do you really have more bottles?”
Emily nods. “Most of the used bottles I have, I used to store the wine in. I don’t know, I’m thinking of starting a business someday, but… I’m not sure.”
JJ shrugs with a small smile. “You could, if you want to. I’d support it.”
Emily chuckles. “And you’ll be my first customer.”
JJ takes a deep breath, slowly exhaling as she examines her surroundings. “You know, I never got the chance to say this is a really great cabin.”
Emily lets out a breath of her own and nods. “Yeah. After my grandmother died, my grandfather wanted to stay here until he died,” she explains. “The place brought back a lot of their memories together, and he didn’t want to forget all about them.”
JJ props one elbow on the back of the couch, holding her own cheek in her palm, showing that she wants to listen to Emily’s story. “You never told me that before,” she softly says.
Emily smiles and looks down at her glass, fingers playing with the neck of it. “Actually, it’s kind of a funny story, how my grandparents met. My grandfather was born into a wealthy family, and he met my grandmother, who didn’t really have as much as he did. But they loved each other so much, they decided to elope. It wasn’t until they had a kid, that his family found out. He wanted to take a break from being fed with a silver spoon and start living the simple life he’s always dreamt of.”
JJ laughs after listening to the story of how Emily’s grandparents met. “That sounds oddly familiar,” she says and earns a chuckle from Emily. She fixes her gaze onto her lap and quietly asks, “Is that why you wanted to spend your retirement here?”
It took a few seconds for Emily to respond with a silent nod. “We’ve been through so much throughout our careers. I want to get away from all of that. Plus, when it’s not as snowy and cold like it is now, it’s really nice out here.”
JJ nods and pulls at a loose thread on her jeans. “Do you ever think about it?” she asks.
“Hmm? About what?”
JJ weakly shrugs and glances up at Emily. “About us?”
The question sounded simple, but the answer was a loaded one. Emily looks away from JJ’s eyes. “Sometimes,” she quietly admits. “You?”
JJ shrugs again and also chooses to look away from her ex, whispering, “Sometimes.” She gets a small nod from Emily. “I haven’t seen anyone else since,” she adds. “I’ve been really busy with work and the kids.”
After a few seconds of silence and registering those words, Emily quietly speaks up. “I haven’t, either.”
JJ’s eyes snap back up to look at her in confusion (and in hope). With a head shake, she slightly chuckles. “I’m sure there’s a lot of women out there who would want to be with Emily Prentiss,” she says with a hint of jealousy in her voice, forcing a smirk on her face. “I wouldn’t blame them.”
Emily nervously chews on her lip as she shakes her head. “I don’t think I want to do any of that,” she says. Her eyes flickered down to JJ’s lips and back to her blue eyes.
JJ swallows her own nerves down, suddenly feeling the room getting hotter other than from the fire in the fireplace. Both women couldn’t stop from inching closer to each other. Their bodies didn’t bother protesting their sudden close proximity.
Emily closes the gap between them and brings their lips together, setting their glasses down and pulling JJ by the waist. The two women finally sigh at the contact, and all those strange feelings come rushing back to them. They didn’t realize how long they’ve missed this, this intimacy with each other, both physically and emotionally.
“Wait,” Emily pants and pulls away, causing JJ to chase after her mouth. “Are you sure you want-”
JJ doesn’t wait for her to finish and just nods, pulling her back in, but their lips were only brushed against each other’s. “I do, please…” she softly pleads. Crashing their lips together again, JJ lets one hand rest on the back of her neck to pull her closer.
Giving in to their (shared) long-awaited desire during the whole trip, Emily shrugs her jacket off her shoulders, throwing it behind her without breaking the kiss. She gently lays JJ down on the couch, so that her body hovers over the blonde. The blue blanket fell off to the side and they didn’t bring themselves to care.
JJ’s hand came up to rest on Emily’s cheek, cradling it with ease and gentleness. Emily leans in into the touch and brings her own hand to lay over JJ’s. They made this moment a chance to take each other in. Emily checks for any trace of doubt, but finds none. She did feel the shakiness of JJ’s hand, but that was different. She recognizes it.
JJ was scared. After two years of not being with each other and Emily leaving, it caused an odd sense of fear for JJ. She wanted to know that Emily was here, and not just in her imagination.
Emily nods and kisses the palm of the hand that was on her cheek. “It’s ok,” she whispers. “I got you.”
JJ’s fingers curled against Emily’s skin. “I want you,” her voice slightly cracked and tears began to well up in her eyes.
Emily kisses her again to confirm that she wanted her, too. Soon after, clothes were shed and tossed aside. JJ and Emily decided to move down to the floor at some point to continue their activities. Along with the small crackling sounds in the fireplace, soft pants and moans filled the living room.
The night was about them and them only, with no worries about the consequences they would face in the morning.
------------------
The next morning, JJ and Emily laid bare on the carpet under the blue blanket JJ had last night. JJ’s head rested on Emily’s shoulder and Emily had her arm wrapped around her, their legs intertwined with each other. JJ tucked her face in the crook of Emily’s neck, and the other woman let out a soft sigh, both still sound asleep.
Being close to each other, this close especially, made them feel like they found their way back home. JJ hadn’t felt this secure and content since she and Emily divorced. Emily didn’t feel as lonely as she had been for the past two years since she left for the French Alps.
Emily was the first to wake up and she rubbed her eyes with a fist. She looked down at the sleeping blonde clinging onto her body under the blanket. Unlike the first morning they had on this trip, Emily wasn’t freaking out. Instead, she carefully placed a kiss on the top of her head.
JJ woke up two minutes after and stretched her limbs, her body lying almost on top of Emily. She lifted her head up to see her surroundings before looking at the older woman.
“Hi,” Emily whispers, eyes slightly peering at the blonde.
JJ softly smiles at her. “Hi,” she whispers back. She glances down at their naked bodies and blushes, pulling the blanket up to her cheek to cover up the pink color there.
Emily thought it was cute and tucked a piece of blonde hair behind JJ’s ear, making her look at her again. They chose not to say anything else, not wanting to ruin this moment. They instead took this time to take each other in again and hoped to capture this moment together.
However, that didn’t last for very long as they heard one of the doors in the hallway close. Both heads shot up and froze at the sound, and they were (unfortunately) brought back to reality.
JJ quickly moves away to find her clothes in the pile they threw them in, pulling them back on her body. Emily still has the blanket and brings it up with her as she sits up to watch her ex.
“What’s wrong?” she quietly asks.
JJ shakes her head and chooses not to make any eye contact. “I’m sorry…” she murmurs under her breath and feels a hand on her arm.
She finally looks at Emily, whose eyes seem lost and so close to being heartbroken. “Are you regretting this?” Emily chokes out in a whisper.
JJ blinks for a couple of seconds and glances down at Emily’s hand on her arm, biting her bottom lip. Her heart tightened when she felt a familiar nervous feeling inside her. She knew she was going to hate herself for doing this.
She meets Emily’s eyes again and shakes her head. A lone tear started to fall down her cheek and her voice began to crack.
“I can’t, Emily. Not again.”

---------
Something felt different when you woke up.
Your mother always used to say that people could feel it in the air when something was to come. You never put much stock in her ramblings, but that particular quote was sticking in your mind as you sat up in your bed.
Sunlight was streaming in through the window and you could hear the faint sounds of Alexandrians starting their days. The nightmares had been worse than usual during the night before and after waking up for the second time, you had to nearly restrain yourself from venturing out of your house and towards another.
The fact that Negan was the first person you thought of when fear entered your body made you feel even more confused. You were still furious with him, that much was clearly evident, but he was still there in the back of your mind. He was in your dreams, your everyday thoughts, and while you should have been focusing on Alpha and Daryl’s rescue plan, Negan was all you could think about.
After getting ready for the day, you strapped on Paul’s sword and headed from your home and towards the meeting hall. It still felt odd to consider the sword yours even though Aaron had given it to you personally. You began to wonder if imposter syndrome extended towards melee weapons.
Walking down the main road, you saw Judith with her brother heading towards the makeshift graveyard. You knew where she was going and you also knew that Judith loved to tell stories she heard from her mom about Carl. While Judith didn’t have many memories of her big brother, she could still remember what it felt like to be carried by him and how he cared for her. Carl had been there since the beginning to look after her and now it was Judith’s turn to do so for RJ.
Your gaze lingered on them for a bit before your eyes caught a commotion at the main gate. You could see Michonne standing on the watch post, looking down. With a furrowed brow, you began to walk forward when a movement out of the corner of your eye caught your attention.
Stopping in front of the Grimes’ house, you looked to see Negan leaning against the bars of his window. He looked at you with those same beautiful hazel eyes and determined set of his jaw. You stared back, remembering the last conversation you had had with the man. Negan had nearly begged you for forgiveness and you weren’t sure if you were actually willing to give it. At least, not yet. He went to say something when the gate slid open up ahead. Looking back, you were stunned at what you saw.
Daryl, Lydia, Connie, and to your ultimate surprise, Henry, were walking towards you. Dog trotted in front of his master, his tail up as he noticed you. When they got closer, you finally saw the state that your friend was in.
“Daryl?” you asked, shocked to see blood, Living blood, on his face and clothes. “What the hell happened to you?” you asked as you left Negan behind and ran up to him.
“Kids need some food,” was all Daryl said. You then noticed that Henry was limping.
“They also need medical attention,” you said and then waved down Siddiq who was walking alongside Rosita. “Come on,” you said and then reached for Lydia who was shaking slightly.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, but you just shook your head.
“Not your fault, kid,” you said, brushing the hair from her face. “Let’s get you looked at.”
As Siddiq took a look at Henry and Lydia, Laura stood watch at Michonne’s request. You stood on the porch of the infirmary with Daryl, Michonne, and Connie. While your signing was still a bit rough, you could get by well enough for the time being. You had taught Deaf students when you were a teacher and you found that your knowledge of the language was slowly coming back to you.
“Are you hurt?” you asked Connie. She shook her head and then made the “D” letter with her right hand and dragged it over her eye. You then realized that was the Name Sign she had given to Daryl, most likely due to his scar. You thought it was fitting.
Connie was telling you that Daryl was hurt, but you knew that he wouldn’t even let you clean his wounds until he knew the kids were okay.
“Someone wanna tell me what happened?” you asked as you leaned against the side of the house, your ankles crossed.
“Beta happened,” Daryl said as he matched your position on the other side.
“Alpha’s man,” Connie signed and you translated for Michonne and Laura, who was listening in the doorway.
“So, it’s not just Alpha we have to worry about? Great,” you said with a deep sigh.
“Asshole is massive,” Daryl said. “Threw me around like I was nothin’ and didn’t hesitate at all to try and kill us. Lydia says he’s the best fighter they got.”
“Fantastic,” you groaned.
“He’s the one that captured Henry,” Daryl explained.
“Which brings me to my question,” Michonne said. “Why the hell was Carol’s son out there in the first place?”
“He went after her, didn’t he? After we traded her for Alden and Luke?” you asked and Daryl nodded.
“Takes after his damn mother,” Daryl muttered, but you could hear a bit of admiration in his tone. Which was how he usually sounded when he spoke about Carol.
“How’d you get her back?”
“Got into their camp,” Daryl said. “There’s a lot more of these assholes than we thought. We couldn’t see all of ‘em, but there are enough to make me nervous.”
“You being nervous, makes me nervous,” you said pushing off the wall.
“Where’s he now?” Michonne asked. “Beta?”
“Threw his giant ass down an elevator shaft,” Daryl said.
“So, he’s dead?” Daryl looked between you, Connie, and Michonne and you could see the fatigue weighing on him and also, the anger.
“For all our sakes,” he said. “He better be.”
------
Once the Doc had cleared both Lydia and Henry, you invited the teenagers as well as Connie and Daryl to stay in your house for the time being.
You knew that Daryl wanted to keep moving in case Alpha had sent out more scouts, but you also knew that they needed to take a breather, even if it was just until nightfall.
You could hear Connie sitting and playing with Dog outside while Daryl spoke with Henry. You knew how important Henry was to Carol and because of that, Daryl would do anything to protect the kid.
However, right now, he seemed to be taking on the role of disappointed uncle. He was using his “parent voice” as you liked to call it. He used to use it a lot with Carl and then when Judith would cause trouble years before. Beth once joked that he had become the father of the group. Daryl had just rolled his eyes, but you knew that meant a lot to him. It told him that all of you, even Rick, relied on him.
Lydia was sitting in the living room when you found her. Sitting next to her on the couch, you tried to see the resemblance between her and her mother. It was there slightly, but only in looks. You couldn’t see the hatred that you saw in Alpha. However, you did see a small bit of resilience and that only told you how much she had to adapt to live within the Dead.
“I’m sorry,” you began. Lydia looked at you in confusion. “I said a lot of horrible things to you when we had you locked up. I made assumptions and it was unfair.”
“I didn’t really give you much of a chance to trust me,” Lydia said, turning her attention back to her hands in her lap.
“Then I guess we both need fresh starts,” you said and then offered her your hand. “Hi, I’m (Y/N).” Lydia hesitantly took your hand and gave you a small smile.
“I’m Lydia,” she said and you smiled at her.
“It’s nice to meet you, Lydia.” When you dropped her hand, she glanced back towards where Daryl and Henry were.
“I’m sorry about your friend,” Lydia said, talking about Jesus. “And because my mom took your other friends.”
“We got them back,” you reminded her. “I just wish we could have gotten them back without throwing you back to the wolves.”
“Yeah, then maybe Henry wouldn’t have gone after me and gotten hurt,” she said sadly.
“Maybe not, but Henry is as stubborn as his mother and as loyal as his father. Trust me when I say that he doesn’t need an excuse to make dumbass decisions.”
“What’s his mom like?” Lydia asked and you paused, trying to figure out how to put Carol into words.
“I’ve known his mom for a very long time. Actually since the beginning of all this,” you began. “Carol has been through a lot and she has lost a lot of people to get to the place she is right now. She has lost children, especially. Carol isn’t a person whom you need to be afraid of if you have good intentions.”
“And if you have bad intentions?” Lydia asked carefully.
“Let’s just say that when she wants to be, Carol can be even more terrifying than your mother. The difference is, is that Carol’s rage and her skills come from love and the need to protect her family.”
“You don’t think my mom is like that?”
“I don’t know your mother,” you admitted. “Though I have known people like her and if I had to guess what she values most, I would say it’s power and survival. Alpha seems to be the person who would sacrifice her young to protect the pack and that is why I don’t want you to go back to her.”
“You don’t even know me,” Lydia said. “You only know what you’ve seen.”
“ ‘To perceive is to suffer’,” you quoted with a smile. Lydia’s brow furrowed. “Aristotle said that,” you explained.
“Who?”
“I’ll tell you about them later. Point is,” you said, taking her hand, “I only saw what I wanted to see because I thought that suffering was better than trying to see your side of everything.”
“So, what does this mean?” Lydia asked.
“It means that I am not going to let anything happen to you. Especially at the hands of your mother.”
----------
Later that day, Michonne found you.
Daryl was inside with the others when she came walking towards your house. She gestured you down off the porch as she got closer. “What’s up?” you asked as you approached.
“We’re doin’ the fair,” Michonne explained.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Michonne nodded and then let out a heavy sigh.
“Henry said that The Kingdom is failing. They need this. Judith recently reminded me that we need each other and that we need to start thinking about the others again.”
“Wise girl,” you complimented and she smiled.
“Just like her dad,” Michonne said.
“Michonne, I want to help Kingdom, you know I do. I would do anything to help Carol and Ezekiel, but what if Alpha finds out that we have her kid? What then? Not to mention that Daryl attacked Beta and we don’t even know if he’s alive or not.”
“We’ll deal with it, just as we’ve dealt with everything else.”
“We’ve never seen anything like this before and you know it.”
“We can’t ignore them anymore, our friends,” she explained. “I know this is going to be rough, but we’ve won wars before.”
“So you do think this is going to end in a fight, then?”
“It always does, (Y/N),” Michonne said.
“I know you don’t trust her, Lydia, I mean,” you said.
“You’re right, I don’t,” she said.
“There is a lot of shit goin’ on right now, but we have to protect her just like we once protected Enid when she had nobody.”
“Enid isn’t the daughter of a killer,” Michonne reminded you.
“No, she’s not, but she could have gone down a different path. Just because she found Alexandria, that doesn’t mean that she couldn’t have turned for the worse. If it wasn’t for Maggie and… and Carl, who knows what would have happened to her.” Michonne was quiet for a moment.
“You’re saying that Henry is Lydia’s Carl?”
“I’m saying that she’s a scared kid who needs everyone in her corner to keep her safe and help her make the right decision.”
“And that’s gonna be you?”
“I’m gonna damn well try to be.”
---------
It was night when Daryl and the others were getting ready to leave.
You met them at the gate as Connie helped Henry balance on his staff, trying to get a rhythm going for their travels. You figured they were going to be headed to Kingdom, but you didn’t know where Daryl would be going after that. Lydia stood by, watching the duo with a smile.
When Daryl noticed you standing off to the side, he joined you. “We didn’t get a chance to talk. Not really,” he said.
“There will be other times,” you said with a bump to his shoulder.
“Judith talked to me,” he said.
“Yeah?” you asked, avoiding the look he was giving you.
“You should know that she hears a lot more than ya think.”
“Meaning she heard the argument Negan and I had,” you realized. Daryl grunted in agreement. “Just great.”
“She’s worried about ya, thinks you’re not gonna forgive him,” Daryl said.
“Judith should mind her own business,” you muttered.
“Are ya? Going to forgive him?”
“What would be the point? The situation is gonna still be the same. Negan is gonna be locked up and I’ll be out trying to fight another battle that we shouldn’t be in in the first place.”
“Self-pity don’t look good on ya,” Daryl said.
“That’s not—”
“Ya, it is,” he interrupted. “I already told ya my thoughts on you and him. I still stand by them, but ya gotta start usin’ your brain, Kid.” You smiled at the nickname. It was something he had called you when you first met, even though you were around the same age as Maggie.
“I thought the heart was supposed to make these kinds of decisions?”
“Nah, ya gotta use both. Don’t believe that poetic bullshit.”
“Are you sure you weren’t a motivational speaker before all this?” you joked.
“Not unless ya count me yellin’ at Merle to get his shit together when the son of a bitch was high and chasin’ birds through the streets.”
“I do,” you decided. Daryl snorted but stayed quiet. “You’re leavin’ with Lydia after you get Henry home, aren’t you?”
“It’s for the best,” he said.
“Is it?”
“People don’t trust her,” Daryl said.
“That’s not her fault.”
“No, it ain’t,” he said, “but I’m not about to leave her vulnerable to people who don’t want her around. Maybe removing Lydia from the equation will make Alpha leave everyone else alone.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” you sighed.
“I gotta try.”
“I know,” you said and then leaned into him. He put his arm around and you savored the small moment. “Please be careful.”
“I will,” he said and then he pushed back to see your face. “Come with me.”
“What?”
“I know ya have been lost for a while. Judith mentioned you isolate yourself. Maybe you just need a break.”
“What happened to me needing to figure out my shit here?”
“Fuck that,” Daryl said. “I ain’t always right.”
“I’m needed here, D,” you said.
“By who? Michonne? Or Negan?”
“Judith,” you said. “RJ, Laura, Scott, Gabriel, Siddiq, and Ro who are about to be parents,” you reminded him. “I can’t just run away.” He caught your double meaning.
“Ya mean like I did?” he asked, but there was no venom in his voice.
“I never blamed you for leaving after Rick, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think that you should have been around more.” He nodded, understanding where you were coming from.
“So, that’s a no?”
“Yeah, D, it’s a no,” you said and then sighed, but pulled you back into him, gripping you tight.
“Remember what I said, Kid, don’t try to fix him. We are the way we are and if you somehow found something you care about in a man like that, don’t try to find a reason to ruin it.”
“I thought people could change,” you said into the side of his neck.
“They can, but deep down, there’s always that one thing that makes them, them,” he said.
“I don’t know about that.”
“I do,” he whispered. “Yours is that you don’t give up. Never have, and I don’t think ya ever will. I’ll see ya soon, I ain’t gonna just disappear again.”
“Promise?”
“Ya, I promise.”
“Good,” you said and then squeezed him once more before he shouldered his bow and with a quick whistle had Dog running after him. You actually believed him this time that you would see him soon and that was comforting. Connie waved to you as the gate slid closed and you were only hoping that whatever they had planned, they would get through it alive.
---------
The next day, it was early and Alexandria was saddling up to head out for The Kingdom.
You found yourself heading to Aaron’s, trying to muster up the courage to speak to him. You missed him and you knew that whatever was going on between the two of you, you needed to deal with it before it got worse.
Knocking on the door and Gracie answered. “Hey Gracie,” you greeted. “Is your dad home?”
“Daddy! (Y/N)’s here!” she shouted behind her and then turned back to you with a large grin on her face. “He’s getting things ready for the fair,” she explained.
“Are you excited?” you asked as you heard Aaron’s footsteps approaching.
“Yes!” she said, jumping up and down a bit. Aaron appeared behind her, his eyes narrowed at you on his front porch.
“Hey,” you said.
“Gracie, why don’t you go finish putting your bag together?” Aaron suggested.
“Okay! Bye, (Y/N)!” she said, as exuberantly as always. You didn’t know where she got all her energy from. When she was out of sight, Aaron turned his attention back to you.
“Can we talk?” you asked and he hesitated. “Please.” With a sigh, he gestured to the bench on his porch and you quickly took a seat, eager to say your piece. Aaron was quiet as you took a breath. “Aaron, I’m sorry.”
“For what?” he asked.
“Being an asshole and not being a very good friend these past couple of months. I’ve been confused and angry and I have been taking it out on you instead of dealing with it.”
“I guess that’s one way to put it,” He said with a snort. He then turned his gaze towards the Grimes house and what was beneath it. “I just hate that you stick up for him.”
“I know.”
“And what’s worse is that I can see that he makes you happy. I don’t know what to do with that, (Y/N).”
“I don’t know what to do with it either. To be honest, I don’t know what to do with any of it. The last thing I ever expected was to care about someone after the world ended, let alone someone like him.”
“Then why do you?” he asked, genuinely curious. “Why Negan?”
“I don’t know, Aaron. I guess maybe because I always felt misunderstood and like an outcast. I’ve done things I’m not proud of and I didn’t think I was worthy of forgiveness…”
“You think we should be forgiving him?” Aaron asked, raising his brows.
“No, because I know none of you will. I don’t even know if I could ever forgive him for what he did to Glenn and Abraham. I don’t know if I could forgive a lot of the things he did.”
“What do you know?” he asked.
“I know that whatever I feel for him is my business and something I need to figure out with him and only him. It’s something I would like to do without the entire town ready to pick up torches and pitchforks.” Aaron laughed at that.
“I don’t think we’d go that far,” he said.
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” you said. “Negan isn’t perfect, but he’s not evil. There is good in him and I’ve seen it, but I need you to know that I don’t expect you to see it too.”
“Good, cause I won’t,” he said shortly.
“I know you hate him,” you continued, “but I don’t and I need time to figure out why.”
“Are you asking for my permission?”
“No, absolutely not,” you said with a roll of your eyes. “I’m just telling you that I don’t plan to turn my back on him, at least, not just yet.” Aaron nodded, his eyes staring at his boots. His right hand fiddled with the straps on his prosthetic as he thought about your words.
“Why are you mad at him?” Aaron said and you paused, not expecting the question.
“Who says I’m mad at him?”
“I know you,” he said.
“God, I really wish people would stop saying that,” you said, rubbing at the back of your neck.
“I’ll tell you what,” Aaron said. “I’ll stop being an ass to you if you stop being an ass to me, deal? I think we’ve lost enough already to not have each other’s backs. I don’t need any more regrets.” You reached over and offered your hand. He took it and squeezed it in his own. The loss of Paul was still weighing on both of you as if it had happened only hours before rather than days. Aaron was trying and so, you decided you should too.
“Okay, I’ll take that deal.”
“Maybe you just need to take a breather,” Aaron said. “And I mean a real break. One where you’re not dealing with Walkers, Whisperers, or missing friends.”
“Are you suggesting I take a vacation?” you asked with your brows raised.
“Come with me to the fair,” he offered. “Help us with Kingdom. I know you turned Michonne down, but I am willing to convince you.”
“How are you planning to do that?” you asked. Aaron then smiled at you.
“I think I overheard Enid say that Alden has been singing more often. How much do you wanna bet he’s gonna get roped into singing a verse or two?” Aaron sent you a wink and you knew that there was no point in arguing with him.
“Fine, I’ll go,” you relented. “But first, I gotta talk to someone.”
--------
Before you headed out with the caravan, you made a final stop.
“Here to yell at me some more?” Negan said as you opened the door.
“Do you want me to?” you asked, approaching the bar.
“Not particularly,” he said as he sat up on his cot.
“I’m going to the fair,” you announced. He stood up at that.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” he asked, concerned.
“Seems to be. Kingdom needs this and so do I,” you said.
“I don’t like the thought of you going out there with those freaks running around,” he admitted.
“I can handle it,” you assured him but then decided to reveal something else. Something you had been careful not to let anyone else know.
“What is it?”
“They terrify me, Negan. These Whisperers are absolutely horrifying. You asked me not too long ago when the last time I was afraid and I said it was the day Rick died. Now? Now, it’s when I saw those...people walk with the Dead and look at us as if we were the ones who weren’t alive. It was when we were in that graveyard as they killed Jesus... I don’t know what to do with those feelings.”
Negan thought for a moment, almost moved by the fact that you had decided to come to him with this. Especially considering how your last conversation had gone. All he wanted to do was reach for you and take you into his arms, but he knew had lost those privileges the second he snuck beyond the walls. Instead, he went back to the roots of your communication. He offered a quote.
“‘I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it’,” he said quietly and you recognized it immediately.
“Nelson Mandela,” you whispered.
“He was brave, just as you are. I don’t care what they think or what they see. You are stronger than them and the only way they win is if you let them,” Negan said. “Look at me,” he ordered and you did. There was a fire in his eyes, but not the one that was usually there. It wasn’t one of tenderness, but of steel resolve. “Don’t give her an inch. Do you understand?”
“Yes,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
“I know you don’t trust me, but I trust you, (Y/N). Help your friends and then come back. We have a lot to talk about.” You nodded, trying to memorize the words that he said, letting them cement in your mind.
Turning to go, you paused in the doorway. “Promise me something,” you said, looking back over at him.
“Anything.”
“There’s a line, the one that separates us from becoming like them,” you said and he knew you meant Alpha and her people. “If you ever see me about to cross that line…”
“I’ll drag you back even it means I have to take down every last one of them to do it,” he swore, that fire lighting up his eyes even more. You nodded, grateful for his response. “(Y/N),” he said, stopping you one last time.
“Yeah?”
“I promise I’ll be here when you come home,” he said and with those words, your heart felt an ounce lighter.
“I know.”

Dangerous Desires- pt 7
chapter 1. chapter 2. chapter 3. chapter 4. chapter 5. chapter 6.
Kat gets into some trouble and school, and Jane has to take care of the aftermath.
Katherine Howard liked to blend in with the walls at school. Considering she had already been through 14 schools since beginning kindergarten at age five and she was only sixteen, it was just easier that way- it’s not like she made any friends she would keep in touch with anyway.
But after the last house, and switching into a school that was known for being rather snobbish, to say the teen had anxiety about going to this school was an understatement.
It had been a few weeks since she started living with Jane, and so far she had just blended in for the first week in this school. That’s how she liked it. Well, until this day. It started the second she walked into the homeroom. She had been in this area before, but that was when everyone was younger and kids were a fair degree nicer. Now, they were cold and cruel and didn’t care.
“Kat Howard’s back,” she heard one of the students in the hallway tell his friend.
“Not for long. You know how that girl bounces around. Such a shame, she’s a pretty little thing,” the friend, presumably a jock and flirt, snorted.
“Of course that’s what you’re thinking about,” the first boy smacked the other upside the head. “She is hot though. But are you willing to shack up with someone who isn’t a virgin?”
“I mean,” the second male shrugged. “She’s hot. And besides, we don’t know if that rumor’s true or not.”
“Of course it’s true man. You’ve seen her. Plays the whole innocence card until she doesn’t and then she dips and leaves for another school. There’s no way she hasn’t lost it.”
(It wasn’t true. Katherine was indeed a virgin, and she couldn’t believe she hadn’t escaped the terrible and ruthless rumors from the last school she was at.)
Looks of disgust and judgement were thrown her way throughout the day, but she only continued to do her best to be invisible.
And it was working- until lunchtime came around.
The girl was sitting by herself at lunch as she had done so for the past week, when she was so rudely interrupted by a girl slamming her hand down on the table hard enough to make Katherine practically jump out of her seat.
“You’re Kat Howard, right?” A preppy girl leaned down so that she was eye-level with the skittish teen.
“Uhm,” Kat worried her lip through her teeth.
“You are, aren’t you? Or do you not know?” the snobby girl laughed in distaste. Kat nodded mutely.
“Well, listen here.” She jabbed Katherine in the chest with her perfectly manicured finger. “Stay away from my man, or you’ll have it coming for you.”
“I-” Kat stuttered. “I don’t even know who you are?”
“How could you not know who I am? Oh, is it because all you’ve done for the past however many years is bounce around from foster home to foster home?”
“I-I’m sorry,” was all the girl could muster out.
“Yeah, you better be fucking sorry. My boyfriend was talking about you earlier, and I swear to God if I ever hear your name come out of his mouth again-”
“Hey, Kaylie, what’s going on over here?” A teacher interrupted.
“Nothing Mr! Just greeting the new student!” The girl, who she now knew was named Kaylie, smiled sweetly at the teacher who had come to intervene. The teacher seemed satisfied with this answer and began to back away.
With the teacher gone, the preppy teen had gotten far too close to Katherine for comfort.
“If I ever see you around my boyfriend again,” she sneered. “I will fuck you up more than any other foster home has before. That’s a promise.”
Kaylie stood upright, smoothed out her skirt, and plastered on a sinister smile. “Have a good day now, and welcome to the school!” she exclaimed loudly before skipping away.
Katherine, on the other hand, was frozen in her spot. She knew how cruel high school students could be, but she never thought they would stoop so low. And what Kaylie had threatened, well it terrified her honestly. The house that she was in before Jane- it royally fucked her over and left her more terrified than she had thought possible.
Feelings of anxiety and panic were overwhelming the young girl, and it was clear to her that she was about to spiral more than she would ever like to, much less in a public area of the school. Her brain told her to get up and run to the bathroom- the nurse’s office- the front office- anywhere. But her feet stuck to the ground below her as though she was being weighed down by concrete.
The next thing she knew, people, who she could only assume in her haze were teachers, were picking her up from her spot at the table. She came back around just enough to feel their hands on her body- hands touching her in places that teachers really shouldn’t have been. Hands that reminded her of-
She heard screaming. A piercing scream that was louder than she had ever heard before. And then she realized the high pitched shrieks were coming from her. She didn’t know she even had it in her anymore to fight like this. She thought it had been beaten out of her a long time ago. With this newfound voice of hers, she began to try to fight her way out of it, thrashing about like a wild animal trying to escape its predator.
“Let her go!” a new, more gentle voice called out from the distance. “It’s clear that this girl is having a panic attack, and I’m sure a bunch of hands on her is the last thing she needs right now! Let her go, and back away from her!” The last sentence echoed through the cafeteria, and the hands slowly let her go.
“Katherine, yes?” the gentle voice spoke from a distance. “It’s Nurse Mack. I need you to give me any sort of signal that you can hear me, okay?” Katherine didn't respond in fear. “Katherine, dear?”
When the teen didn't respond again, she heard one of the teachers who had their hands on her curse, “Jesus Christ Courtney! She’s just being insubordinate!”
“I need all of you to leave,” she stated finitely. When she was met with varying degrees of objection, her voice turned smooth with honey, but the words she spoke were threatening. “Out, or I will report you to the principal and the police for having your hands all over this young girl’s body. Surely, you don’t want that? Yes?”
In her haze, Katherine could tell that this woman truly was trying to help her. It wasn’t some sort of sick and twisted joke to lure her into a false sense of security. When the others had left, she tried to take a deep breath in attempts to ground herself. It would come out shaky, but it was better than feeling as though she was suffocating.
“That’s it honey, yeah. Can you try to take another deep breath for me?” The nurse continued to coach her through her panic. Eventually, she had calmed down enough for the nurse to be able to speak to her effectively.
“Alright love, do you think we could take a walk down to my office? You can lie down there until you’re feeling a bit better,” Ms. Mack offered. Katherine nodded and stood on wobbly legs.
When the two entered the office, the girl wasn’t quite sure what to do, so she stood in the door frame for a few moments.
“Would you like to lie down?” Katherine shook her head no. “Okay dear. How about you just sit with me for a few moments. I just have a couple phone calls to make.” The nurse pulled up a chair next to hers and gestured to it kindly before dialing a number on the phone.
“Hi, is this Jane Seymour? ...Yes, it’s Courtney... I’m well, thank you. I do have Katherine down in my office and I have a feeling the school will be calling you if they haven’t- oh, wonderful.” The teen couldn't miss the sarcasm dripping in the nurse’s voice. “She had a panic attack, and I haven’t been able to talk to Henry yet, but I do suspect he’s going to try to get her into some trouble as he does with the foster kids... I know, it’s horrible. I’ll do my best to stand up for Katherine, but I am afraid I’m on thin ice with him as of lately... coddling the children, or at least that’s what he’s calling it... yes. I’ll see you soon, thanks. Bye.”
“You called my foster placement?” Katherine looked up curiously once the nurse had hung up the phone. “I did. Not to get you into trouble or anything. Jane and I have had correspondence in the past, and I find it’s usually best if I chat with her first. Not because she’ll be mad or anything, no she would never be. It’s for reasons above you- she and the principal have a not-so-great past, and if she has background knowledge of what's-” the phone ringing interrupted Miss Mack. She stole a glance at the caller ID before groaning.
“Hi, yes, this is Miss Mack, and- well yes, I do have Katherine... she wasn’t being insubordinate, she was having a panic attack and should not be repri-... for what I’m not sure, but it’s clear she was not okay and... yes Dr. Tudor. I’ll bring her when she’s feeling better... she’s still not very responsive and I do think that... okay, okay. I’ll bring her down. Thank you, bye.” The nurse placed the phone back on its dock, not even trying to hide her annoyance with the principal.
“This damned school couldn’t give half a shit about anyone here but their grades,” she
muttered under breath.
She turned to face the poor girl next to her with a solemn look. “Unfortunately, I have to
take you down to the front office. I’ll do my best to defend you, but the worst thing that should happen is you’ll be given detention.” Katherine nodded slowly before allowing herself to be led to the office.
“Katherine Howard, only been here for a few weeks and already causing trouble,” the principal addressed her not-so-kindly. “Should’ve listened to the other principals in the surrounding schools I suppose. I’ve already called your foster mother and she’s on her way to-”
“No!” was the first thing that had come out of the girl’s mouth since the whole incident had occurred. “She had a really important meeting today and-”
“It’s already been handled. She’s on her way now to pick you up and see you through. For your insubordination, you’re being suspended for the rest of the week.”
Many thoughts swirled around Katherine’s mind. Would Jane be mad? Would she hit her? Would she throw her out of the house? Or maybe, considering how kind Jane had been so far, would she get a talking to and that be that?
“Sir, if I may,” Miss Mack interrupted. “I have to try to explain again that she was not being insubordinate on purpose. She was having a panic attack, and when I got to the cafeteria, some of the other male teachers had their hands on her and-”
“Are you instigating that the other teachers were the cause of this, Miss Mack?”
“No sir,” she stated. “What I’m saying is she was clearly already in the midst of her panic when these men came towards her and only continued to make the situation worse for her. If you would please-”
“I’d advise you to stop talking now Courtney. You’re already on thin ice, and another strike against you and you could be-”
“Dr. Tudor? Ms. Seymour is here now. Should I bring her in or?” the receptionist stated quietly, eyes veering anywhere but towards the principal.
“Bring her in.” The receptionist stepped aside for the blonde to march herself. Somehow, the woman looked just as wonderful as she had when she walked out the door that morning, albeit a bit frazzled.
“Hi love,” Jane’s warm eyes met fearful ones, but one glance at her and the teen couldn’t help but feel that maybe it would be okay after all. There was no malice behind the blue-grey eyes- there never was when she was looking at the girl. “We’ll sort this out, and then I’ll take you home, yes?” She turned to the principal.
“Henry,” she practically spat out, any trace of warmth now gone. “What is it?”
“Oh Jane, it’s always a pleasure,” a sinister smirk appeared on the principal’s face. “Is that really how you should act with your foster daughter in the room? You shouldn’t be mad at me- maybe your foster-”
“I doubt Kat did anything worth me leaving my meeting, and it's just your horrid management skills. Now,” she turned towards the nurse who had refused to leave the room. “Miss Mack, can you tell me what happened?”
The nurse began to explain what had happened before the principal interrupted, “This is my school Jane Seymour, and if I say she’s to be suspended, that’s what will happen. Miss Mack, go back to your office and mind your own damn business, or it would really be a shame for you to-” he was about to threaten firing her when the nurse simply held up a calm and steady hand.
“Yes sir.” With that, she turned to leave, but not before mouthing to the blonde, ‘I can’t afford to lose this job.’ Jane gave her a sympathetic smile and nod.
“She’s suspended for the next week, and I don’t want to hear anymore about Katherine refusing to listen to the directions of her teachers again, or she will face expulsion. Have I made myself clear?”
“Sure Henry,” the woman scoffed, not so much as giving him a second glance and instead running a gentle hand over her foster daughter’s- hoping and praying that she could signal that it didn’t matter what Henry had said; she was going to be just fine.
“Katherine?” The principal looked at her expectantly.
“Yes sir,” Katherine agreed lowly, head hung in shame.
The two had made it back to the house in silence. The teen wasn’t quite sure what to make of Jane. She had expected to be yelled at within the first ten seconds of getting into the car, but it never came. She was expecting glares to be shot at her whenever the older woman could get a chance. She was even expecting to possibly be struck by what was usually such a soft hand. But it never came. Silence had washed over them, but it wasn’t a terrible silence. Daggers never shot from the blonde’s eyes; every once in a while, Katherine would lift her head slightly to take a look at the woman next to her only to be met with the same blue-grey eyes filled with more love and compassion than she could ever imagine. A hint of concern was mixed in there, but the teen chose to see the warmth mostly. The soft hand that had found its way over Katherine’s in the office never once left; the warm and kind hand had held on tight, without an ounce of selfishness to it-, all in attempts to convey silently that everything would be alright.
Jane only let go of her sweet girl’s hand when she made moves to get out of the car, but Katherine stayed still.
“Honey, are you ready to go inside?” The older woman asked when she noticed the teen had yet to even unbuckle her seatbelt. The look of uncertainty in the girl’s eyes was confused and wary- almost as if... almost as if she was expecting Jane to yell at her and beat her once they were behind closed doors. “We don’t have to of course. If you’re comfortable out here, we can stay out here.” The blonde settled herself back into the car, prepared to sit with her girl for as long as she needed. She gently stretched her hand back out over Katherine’s.
The two sat in silence for quite some time. There was no, “Enough of this Katherine. You’re being silly. Let’s go inside.” No, Jane Seymour was the most patient woman you would meet, and she was more than happy to sit in silence in her car for the time that Katherine needed.
They had been sitting in the car for just over two hours when the silence was broken with Katherine’s body betraying her and let out a small hiccup. Jane, who had recently begun to doze off in the car, groaned softly and allowed her eyes to glance over to the teen without the teen noticing. She was crying, and it appeared she had been crying since the blonde allowed herself to close her eyes. It was as if this sweet and innocent girl had learned how to cry silently- much practice was clear. The way her body shook so softly that if Jane hadn’t been paying attention, she may have never noticed it- even with her hand still holding Kat’s. The way there was no heavy breathing or choked out sobs like Jane tended to- just silent tears streaming steadily down the girl’s face as regularly as water flows through the stream.
“Kat? Love, what’s wrong?” Jane repositioned herself so she could get a better look at the girl in the passenger seat.
“Oh,” the teen jumped a bit in her seat as she wiped furiously at her tears. “You’re awake! I'm fine. We can go in now.”
“Sweetheart, I don’t want to push you, but it’s clear you’re not okay. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t wa-”
“I’m so sorry,” Katherine practically threw herself at the woman. “I’m so sorry,” she repeated over and over, openly weeping now.
Jane, who had opened up her arms and was now awkwardly leaning over the armrest to embrace the girl, just gently shushed her and murmured soft and sweet nothings to the girl until she had calmed down a bit.
“How about we go inside, prepare dinner, and then we can talk? It might be a tad more comfortable than the car?” the blonde suggested lightly. Katherine nodded solemnly, but hesitantly.
“We don’t have to if you don’t want to, but-”
“No,” Kat stated firmly. “We can. I’m being silly.”
“I’m sure you have good reason as to why you wanted to stay in the car so long, dear,” Jane affirmed. “But, if you’re ready, let’s get going. I was thinking of making your favorite casserole tonight?” The shy blush and smile that appeared on Katherine’s face made Jane’s heart melt.
The two had sat down after preparing dinner together, Kat’s chair much closer to Jane than she had ever dared to be before.
“So love, we do have to talk about what happened today,” Jane spoke softly after she swallowed her mouthful. Kat nodded slowly. “Do you want to tell me what happened?”
The teen launched into her story, every so often looking at the woman before her to see if there were any signs of annoyance or agitation. There never was.
“I’m just- I’m really sorry you had to miss your meeting. I know it was a big meeting with your boss for your promotion, and I’m sure I got you into trouble, and I-”
“Well, I won’t lie to you: my boss wasn’t very happy about me leaving so suddenly, but he knows that any foster child that is in my house comes before a blasted job. And love, your mental wellbeing is more important to me than any sort of promotion I could or could not get,” Jane told her softly.
“That’s what you say now,” Kat muttered under her breath, but the blonde picked up on it.
“I want you to hear me out on this Kat. I know you’ve heard it in the past, but I truly mean it. You matter more to me than anything else in my life. All of the kids who have been through my house hold a very special place in my heart, and you are no different,” she spoke in a gentle but firm tone.
‘You are different though. You’re so much different than any other child,’ Jane added in her head.
“But it was such a stupid reason to get pulled from work. You’re not even like, slightly mad?”
“It’s not a stupid reason at all, sweetheart. You can't help the panic that stormed its way through your body,” Jane sighed before admitting the next part, “And, I understand because sometimes I get them too.”
“You do?” Kat looked astonished. No foster parent that she had ever lived with before had ever admitted to being anything less than... Well, no foster parent had ever admitted to her that they also struggled sometimes. She knew they did, but no one had ever blatantly admitted it before. Jane nodded silently, a sign that it would be something they would speak about later.
“I do. So I understand the feeling. And I know that you would never do anything purposefully to get me out of that meeting.”
“So, you’re not upset? Not mad? Not going to yell and scream at me? Not hit me?” Kat asked so casually that it truly made Jane’s mouth fall wide open in shock.
“Of course not honey.” Jane’s eyes went wide. “Is that- is that why you didn’t want to get out of the car?”
“Everything’s hidden behind closed doors,” Kat sighed, eyes dulled and slightly glazed over. “It’s happened before.”
“I will never, ever lay a finger on you that isn't full of love and care. It won’t ever happen. And I rarely raise my voice. It happens, yes- I’ll admit to that. But it’s few and far between, and even if I get frustrated with you: I will never strike you. Not now, not ever. That’s a promise, my sweet girl.” The blonde understood these fears. She hadn’t lived Katherine’s life, but anger and violence was seemingly all she knew. Jane knew she had already promised herself to show Katherine a different light before, but she promised herself again in that moment.
“O-Okay,” the teen’s eyes came back to life. “I’m not in trouble or anything? You don’t like... want to take away my phone or something?”
“No dear. You’re not in any trouble at all. You didn’t do anything wrong, and that principal is just an idiot,” the woman scoffed. “I’m sorry you had to go through all of that... bullshit.”
A present day Jane was lovingly stroking her soon-to-be daughter’s hair listening to her tell the tale when she felt a laugh being suppressed against her night shirt.
“What’s so funny young lady?” Jane sounded mock-annoyed, making sure to make it evident she was joking.
“It’s just... that was the first time I had ever heard you curse. It was pretty funny,” Kat continued to giggle softly.
“Well, I suppose it can be quite funny when those who don’t have mouths like a sailor curse,” Jane mused. “So love, what was the point of that story?”
“You didn’t give up on me that day either. Most would’ve dropped me right back off at the social services office claiming they couldn’t handle such a trouble maker. But you, you didn’t,” although she knew Jane never would, there was a hint of confusion laced in her soft voice.
“Well of course not. I would never dream of it,” Jane stated clearly.
“You were the first foster parent I lived with who heard me out.”
“Every child deserves to have their voice heard, especially in situations like that.”
“You were the first ever foster parent to admit to me that you weren’t perfect.”
“No one’s perfect, love.”
“Well, I know that. But, everyone just likes to pretend that they’re perfect, and then they show that they aren’t. You... you admit that you aren’t perfect, and yet you still are the closest thing to perfect that I’ve ever seen,” Kat smiled up at her soon-to-be mother, moving impossibly closer into her hold.
Jane sighed, pressing yet another gentle kiss to the teen’s hairline. “Well, that’s very sweet of you, but you and I both know I’m not perfect. Far from it. By you my dear, you are a gift to me and this world. Imperfections and all, I would never dare to lose you.”

Growing up you were taught the laws of the world you lived in. You were taught that every person around you had different morals and different beliefs. But one thing everyone agreed on was the existence of soul mates, two people linked by destiny, made for each other, two people bound my fate to be together until death do they part. You were taught that you could tell who your soulmate is purely but the feeling you got. You were told that your soul mates aura would match yours and the closer you were to each other the deeper you would feel, the more intense your feelings would be, as if amplified by the other person. You were also taught that as you grew up you would get visions of your soul mate. You wouldn't see what they looked like or where they lived but would see visions of what they were like, what they did in their spare time. You knew yours was an actor (although how famous you didn't know), you knew he enjoyed video games just as much as you did, he grew up reading fantasy books just like you, you could feel that family was important to him, he had brothers but you weren't sure how many. You could also feel each other's emotions when you were apart, a constant reminder from destiny that you had to find each other to live in peace, to live in paradise with each other. The piece of information that made it difficult in finding him was that he was an actor, he was always travelling and was always filming. This made finding him difficult because you were a singer, a famous one at that, you were constantly on the road, never in the same place for more than a couple of days at a time.
But you were currently on a break from your life on the road, you had told your fans that you were going to take a hiatus and lots of them encouraged you to find your soul mate, because they wanted you to be happy.
One of the fundamental laws of soul mates was the push and pull dynamic, the more someone would push their soulmate away. the more they would find themselves needing that person. There were people who ignored these laws, and lived their lives running from destiny. Soulmates who were yet to find each other were allowed to carry out temporary relationships with non-soul mate individuals, named "betas" but were forbidden to marry them or reproduce with them. Again there were those who hated these laws, those who married non-soulmates to spite destiny.
As for you, you had a few relationships with betas, but they never satisfied that of your deepest desire. It was fun getting to know betas and you found yourself loving them, but not in the way that soulmates would love each other. Eventually the relationship between betas would come to an end when the other found their soulmate. But you were yet to find yours so all of your beta relationships had ended because they had been successful in carrying out the law.
So here you were, alone in your house in London, what was the point of a break if I can't even find my soulmate? you thought. You were beginning to lose hope, maybe you had done something to spite destiny and this was its way of punishing you.
You had begun to feel ill, your mother bringing you some soup in hopes you would feel better. Your mother was one of few individuals, who destiny had granted multiple soul mates, this only happened to people whose original soul mate had passed, destiny would grant them another if they had successfully carried out the law of soul mates in all its glory. And your mother had, she had found her soulmate when she was 21 and had gotten married soon after, having 4 beautiful children (you included) before sadly her soul mate (your father) and passed. Destiny had decided that she carried out the law so well that she deserved another one.
To say it irked you was an understatement, you were happy for her, sure, but there she was having had 2 soul mates and you were yet to find yours.
"He's on he's way dear" she said, as she was leaving your home.
"I don't know ma" you frowned, rubbing your forehead I wish this throbbing in my head would stop for christ sake you thought.
"He is, my love. Now rest and get better, I have to meet Derek for lunch" she said referring to your step farther.
"Have a lovely day ma" you said, making her smile and leave you.
Your head throbbed again, making you have to close your eyes as you felt like you were going to faint.
"What in the world?" you said, your hand coming up to rest against the wall to stop yourself from falling.
Sit down love you heard his voice in your head say. Oh yeah, another side effect of not finding your soulmate was having this kind of connection with them, they could communicate with you, through your mind. It sounds ridiculous but it's true, it takes practice to successfully send a message to your soul mate, apparently it becomes painstakingly easy when you've actually met them.
"You're not helping me" you chuckled out, crashing on your sofa.
You need to rest, your making me feel nauseous his voice said again
"Oh thanks love. Sorry to be such a pain" you said, sarcastically.
Sorry love you heard him chuckle
"It would be a lot easier if you were here dickhead" you laughed, joking with him, your eyes still shut. An image flashed in your mind... A lot of green, that's all you could see for miles.
"What are you doing?" you laughed, talking about the vision you got.
Walking Kal
"all I can see is green, like for miles?" you asked, and you heard him chuckle. He didn't say anything else and you sighed, resting your head against your sofa.
Wish I could help you. He sounded sad and he felt sad too, you could physically feel him frowning, but you knew it felt worse for him, that's how it worked. You were feeling dizzy, which meant he was feeling it a little too.
"Would be so much easier if I knew where you were." you said, your cat jumping up to sit on you.
Y'know how it works love, can't tell you that
He was right, another stupid rule was that if one soulmate attempted to send a message containing information about where they were or where they lived, the information would be corrupted, all the other would hear is muffled speech.
"I'll leave you to it then my love" you said quietly.
Okay love, rest well. Get someone to come round and look after you
"I'll try." you said. You managed to open your eyes, the world spinning a lot less now, the same throbbing in your head like someone was constantly playing a drum in there. You picked up your phone texting your best friend.
"Hey. Not well. Please come save me 😂" you typed, short sentences will have to do you thought.
"coming" was all you received back. Your friend arrived 10 minutes later, as she lived close by. She let herself in calling your name, to which you just groaned.
"Oh c'mon you big baby, it can't be that bad" she said upon seeing you.
"That's easy for you to say. You don't have what feels like someone kicking your head in every 2 seconds" you said, groaning when she tried pulling you up from your seat.
"We're going for a walk, the fresh air will do you good." she said, forcing your shoes on your feet.
"Really? I'm not well" you pouted.
"C'mon you need air" she said, pulling you up and to the door.
You began walking, every few steps you had to stop and shut your eyes, your vision became blurry and your head pounded and pounded with every step. You could see green again, a park?
"Hey it's okay, I've got you I'm here, Cmon sit down" she said, leading you to a bench.
Another vision: a bench?
Another one: two women?
Another one: a dog jumping excitedly
What was that?: An American Akita?
"This isn't working" you groaned loudly, your vision coming back to you, you looked around you, you were in a park, surrounded by green.
"Oh my god" you said, your head pounding, like a drum getting louder. You stood suddenly, your feet hurt but they carried you forward, you didn’t want to be walking but your body had other plans, your legs hurt... Everything hurt.
What's happening? You heard him say
You were falling, falling, your head throbbing more than ever, just as you were about to hit the ground, you felt something soft... Hands? You opened your eyes briefly, two blue eyes, the left had a bit of brown in it
 And then? Nothing.
The next thing you know, you were lying on the pavement, your head no longer hurt... That's good you thought. You opened your eyes, seeing the same blue eyes, your heart felt like it exploded, your back shooting up from the ground on its own accord, turning to look at the man.
"Oh my god" you cried, he was here, you found him.
"Told you to rest, love" he said, somehow making a joke out of it, but he had tears in his eyes too. You wrapped your arms around him, him pulling you to his chest.
"It's okay I've got you love, I've got you" he said, hugging you like he was never going to let go.
"You found me" you said, pulling back to look into his eyes.
"I found you alright" he said, nodding as tears fell from his eyes.
"Henry" you said, suddenly knowing his name as if you'd always known it, you knew everything there was to know about him, and he you.
"Y/N" he uttered, his hand grasping your face tightly in his hand, bringing it closer to his so he could finally kiss you. His lips were perfect against yours, it was everything everyone told you it would be, nothing but heightened emotions, destiny and fate.
"I love you so much" he uttered against your lips.
"I love you too" you replied, pulling back from the kiss.
"How's the head?" he said, his fingers rubbing at your temple.
