I’m realizing how good my friends are- not just as friends- but how they are all just genuinely wonderful people who make the world better, idk I’ve been going through some early 20’s growing pains recently and it’s just hitting the me that I have people who value me and actually WANT me in their life, and make me feel like I must be doing something right

#I’m slowly and painfully realizing I’m outgrowing my old friends #no bad blood or anything #but I’m realizing how well I’m treated by some of the friends I’ve made in my adult life and realizing #damn #my old friends roll their eyes when I talk about race #and two weeks ago I stayed up until THREE am talking to my friend in our pjamas about how it feels to constantly have to prove yourself #to white people that you are white enough to be taken seriously #and then jarringly moving to a workplace of all people of color and having to constantly prove that you actually are mixed race #and should be taken seriously #and how that leads to us often overcompensating in proving ourselves and just feeling pulled in multiple directions #it was so healing #my teenage friend group jokingly laugh at me for buying stacks of books in bulk and reading a book a week #I mentioned loving Circe to my friends #and TWO of them bought the book on the spot and read it in a week #and the third borrowed my copy and it felt SO good to LOAN somone a book #and feel confident that we are friends and I will see them soon and they will be able to give it back the next time they see me #because there will be a next time and they like having me in their life #I’ve known these guys for three years and it’s just been hitting me in the past few months how much I love them #and it’s shitty to compare them to some of my old friends I’m outgrowing but the spark just isn’t there #and they don’t make any effort to show me they care #and it’s not bad no one is mean #but these guys just keep blowing me away with how easy friendship is #they text when they think about me and even showed up randomly at a lesbian bar because I mentioned I was going #and WANTED to see me #I’m just so lucky #I remember somone was questioning my athority on a topic because I was young and I don’t even remember how it came up but I heard my friends #recounting the story after and one of them confidently said without thinking ‘yeah they were being like so wierd Rogi is our friend #idk idk I’m gushing I am just going through a lot of life changes and also I’m 21 so I’m kinda clicking into the stride of my adult life #amd understanding who I am… and I just feel so lucky to have friends that value me and who make friendship feel so effortless

They had a bit of a chance encounter on a day where Blueblood was dealing with something that was very difficult and was so caught up in his emotions he didn’t even care that he was in the garden getting grass stans on his coat and Ditzy, with her natural impulse to cheer ponies up, didn’t even notice or care that she was flying into the palace gardens when she saw someone sat in the rain.

At first he was definitely going to call the castle guards to come apprehend this strange filly with the odd eyes who was intruding when this was the last moment he’d want to entertain any desperate debutantes, however she surprised him by not fawning or anything, not even caring about his status, just putting one of her fluffy wings up and asking if he needed somepony to lend an ear.

“Don’t let my eyes fool you, my ears work just fine!”

She was incredibly disarming and while he didn’t reveal everything about why he was upset, he found himself talking about his feelings to her. And she made such cheerful remarks, and was very comforting. In the end, he felt better and she came to check on him the next day, even sharing a blueberry muffin with him. He remarked that he’d never seen her around before, and that he wouldn’t mind terribly seeing her more often.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I want to know more about Anyone!All Might. His characterisation has a very different take given he doesn't have Izuku. Would it be okay to share how would he react if he knew Izuku (faked) died?

Honestly? Deep down, he would be pissed. Like, obviously, he would get sad about Izuku's death, because it was a misguided child who tried to be a hero, and heartbroken that OFA is gone. But deep down? He would be enraged that this dumbass kid stole OFA only to get killed by a two-bits serial killer a couple of months afterwards. He isn't proud of it, he wouldn't admit it but I know all.

#More seriously he would have a lot of guilt about Izuku's death. Alhaitham and Kaveh's dynamic is interesting, because I've seen a lot of people say either "oh my god Kaveh is so mean" or "oh my god Alhaitham treats Kaveh terribly". But, quite importantly imo, in this quest Paimon remarks that she "doesn't know which one of them is more problematic".

I think when considering their relationship you need to look at intention. Do Hoyo want to villainise one of their popular husnandoes as a toxic asshole? No. Even the "villain" playable characters like Childe and Wanderer are nice/funny on occasion. Kaveh and Alhaitham's interactions are intended to be humorous, to make you gasp and say "oh wow I can't believe he just said that!".

Like, during the most recent story quest, for example. Kaveh accusing Alhaitham of having no empathy when he's clearly pretty emotionally stunted and decently moral is mean. But saying "At least I'd be a fungus with empathy!" Undercuts that - it's clear neither Alhaitham nor the player are suppose to take those words seriously.

Alhaitham dismissing Kaveh's field of work with "you work yourself to death just for a smile" is so belittling, but it's a retort to Kaveh saying his scribe job is at "rock bottom" in the Akademiya. Alhaitham isn't lashing out or trying to demean Kaveh in front of others (this interaction happens after the player has "left"); he's just continuing their verbal sparring match. I think people take this jab so seriously because it can be seen as a jab at a lot of people working out of passion, but in the context of the dialogue we're not supposed to regard it so deeply.

It's also fairly clear that nobody in game takes them seriously either. Tighnari says Kaveh is "as pent up as an anemo slime" in his Alhaitham voiceline - another funny quip - and Collei details how hard it was to suppress her laughter when Kaveh was talking about Alhaitham. Nobody thinks they're genuinely bad for one another, or that getting them separated is all that crucial.

Even the interactions in this story quest are just so silly and domestic: Kaveh can't get the painting straight, Alhaitham buys ugly furniture, they're arguing about rent and drink tabs, Kaveh is doing an unfair amount of housework and Alhaitham fucks off without entertaining his own guests. it's funny, or at least it is clearly intended to be.

I've heard that in the other dubs the VAs tones are different and it makes the lightheartedness clearer. Personally I've thought since their first interaction in the AQ that Alhaitham is having fun during their quarrels, and Kaveh is just melodramatic enough to act traumatised even if he isn't truly offended.

Then when it comes to whether their dynamic is supposed to be read platonically or romantically... Well Hoyo won't do anything canon, but it's hard to argue that there is no intentionality in how their relationship is portrayed. What other character(s) has an idle animation directly referencing their relationship with another character? How many other voicelines explicitly reference two characters as a pair? Nahida's Kaveh voiceline, Collei's, Tighnari's - I'm sure there are more. "Roommates" "senior & junior" "academic rivals" -> certainly there's a case to be made that they're just very close, but Kaveh and Alhaitham getting fifteen minutes of epilogue interaction in two different quests (where none of the content is related to either quest) says something. Fanservice, quite possibly.

Also Kaveh's line "We used to be friends, but not anymore"; I've seen plenty of people interpret this as "oh we're not friends, we're dating*". I think this is fun in fanon, but on a canon level it's basically a promise by Hoyo to fix (or explain) their current dynamic. Hoyo, for all their many faults, are detail orientated enough to follow up on such a line. Perhaps it will just be in Kaveh's voicelines/character stories, but I anticipate a future event or Kaveh hangout in relation to their bond. Nothing explicit, but more exploration. It's fairly clear Alhaitham and Kaveh are popular enough characters to warrant it.

All this to say: I have lots of thoughts. I have seen people call them toxic and (while idm the drama of that in fanon shipping) that isn't really the intended case in canon. Or, at the very least, the intention is not to to take their squabbling so seriously.

The biggest sin of the Deadpool movies is that now everytime anyone talks about them or Deadpool in general, there's always that one prick who's like "C'mon, it's Deadpool, you can't take anything seriously with him, he's purely comedic and a parody" and it's not even because the movie aren't serious at times, but because the fans of those movies usualy have the literacy of a sleepy old cat.

i think a lot of people consuming media have quite poor reading comprehension, but that's just the way the world is in any place you go! we're snobs. not everyone is snobs like us.

buuuut personally i don't think the lens that "you can't take anything seriously" with deadpool is an incorrect one, at all. i think deadpool should be irreverent and playful - and i don't think it's a requirement for deadpool media to take itself seriously. in fact, i kind of wish we had more deadpool media that actually committed to the silliness of a comic book character knowing he's a comic book character. i think maybe gwenpool does it more successfully than deadpool does - but i can't say that with any kind of conviction behind it because i haven't read gwenpool either - i just get the vibe.

i wish the movies were smarter, actually. like, if they wanted to go down the avenue of comedy and parody, man... commit. be smart about it. fact is they kind of want a heartfelt romance and a tragic hero but they keep puncturing it with meta jokes and really, really dumb writing choices that mean you shouldn't take it too seriously. so they kind of don't succeed at either.

i don't think you're meant to take the deadpool movies seriously. i certainly can't enjoy them without switching my brain off entirely –that's not to say it's successful parody. because it's not. the deadpool movies are dumb. they are dumb. they are not clever parody, like... the airplane! of superhero movies. they do very little to subvert the genre at all - nothing clever. just a wink-wink-nudge-nudge joke here or there to say "haha. we played into that trope. it's clever because we're pointing it out."

aaand they're not a meaningful examination on what it means to be a hero or what it means to be in love or the concept of nature vs nurture or overcoming your demons or yadda yadda any of those themes that they kind of flirt over but don't sink teeth into. deadpool movies are dumb. we can't give them too much credit. they don't deserve it.

i think sincerity doesn't have to always suffer at the hands of comedy - no, no. i think good deadpool content balances it somehow. the lego batman movie balanced it too. clever media can do both. the deadpool movies don't (imo), so i think anyone who says "you're not meant to take it seriously" are totally within their right. i say it too. the deadpool movies can't really be enjoyed without turning your brain off. i have to do it too. if i think on it too hard, i'm disappointed. they are not clever movies.

For the same reason that people with any kind of attraction to anyone ever aren't all rapists/don't all pursue romantic/sexual feelings that could or definitely would hurt the other person. Because paraphilias are simply the morally neutral state of experiencing attraction and rape/grooming is Not That. Because people *choose* to hurt others, but not what they feel. Because a good majority of child sexual abusers aren't even pathologically/paraphilically attracted to children, they *just want to hurt them because they can.* Because they're dissatisfied with something in life, or want a punching bag, or want to feel powerful, etc etc.

It's not really different conceptually from physical abuse. Do people do it because they have icky feelings about liking blood or violence? No. They do it to feel powerful. Sexual abuse is not about sex but about power. Hope this answers your question. I've answered it a good million times on this blog but eh I'm in a generous mood.

My thoughts on the Hatchetfield Jon Matteson family tree (including some other headcanons):

Paul and Gary are brothers (twins possibly)

Gary is Richie's dad

Paul and Richie ARE close, Richie stays with Paul when Gary is too busy with a case

Ok this one is a bit iffy, so feel free to disregard it, but Roman could be Gary and Paul's father (Separate mother from Linda, but they have the same mother)

which like- think of the implications

Boy Jerry is Paul and Gary's cousin

No one really talks to him

Stopwatch (Daniel) is Richie's twin

Paul does not know that Daniel has powers, nor does he know where all this money keeps coming from

Secretary of defense is a distant cousin to Paul and Gary

Trevor and Richie are canonical brothers!!

Trevor is the older brother to the twins

Trevor was held back a grade, and that's why we still see him in npmd even though Richie is a senior

Now, for funzies, let's try to add Wiggly to the mix:

So, obviously, they are in no way blood related

But Wiggly is a little shit and likes to fuck with people

I think he'd start with Paul first, forcing Paul to interact with him

I think he'd gind it fun to see some normal ass guy completely resistant to him

He'd just bug Paul until Paul finally caves and responds to him regularly, deciding it's better than drawing out Wiggly's annoyance

It gets to the point where he makes Paul congratulate him every time he overthrows a Earth

Paul is not a fan.

I can't see Wiggly interacting with any of the others
