#and sometimes nami will join zoro while he’s in the crows nest training and just sit with him drawing charts

the REAL reason why luffy and zoro understand each other so well is because they are both autistic & their love language is parallel play. no matter what they are doing they are always in each others line of sight. zoro always naps close to where luffy is messing around with chopper and usopp. luffy sits close to where zoro is training when he’s fishing. while zoro is sharpening his swords, luffy sits right next to him, feeding some bug he picked up from the last island and decided to keep. while they don’t always talk to each other, they come to understand little cues that indicate their thoughts and emotions thanks to spending so much time close to one another.

Purple Hearts | Monkey D. Luffy
Summary: Since you've joined the Strawhats crew, you've had a lot of fun and good time. But your capitain is someone who is a little clumsy. And, sometimes, that clumisiness affects you in ways he can't even imagine.
Pairing: Monkey D. Luffy x Reader.
Warnings: It's a little angst to fluff, but mostly angst. But with fluff. And cursing, ig.
A/n: OMG. I had this idea when I was remembering the funny moments between Luffy and Zoro, and I imagined it. It was one of the best scenarios I've ever imagined. Really loved this one. I'm thinking about doing hcs for the Vinsmoke brothers, would you guys want that? They've rented a triplex on my head and I can't stand it.
Words: 1,540 words.
Tumblr media
It was another normal day on the Sunny. Sanji was in the kitchen, preparing drinks and snacks for you, Nami and Robin; Usopp and Franky were drawing new machines and inventions to improve things on the ship; Brook and Chopper were playing cards; Zoro was in the crow's nest doing his daily strength training and Luffy was fishing. All seemed to be going normal, but, of course, things on this ship never stay peaceful for too long.
"I got a big one! Usopp! Chopper! Help me out here!", your captain yells and starts pulling his rod at full force. Usopp and Chopper go and start helping him pull it, and then the fish is out of the water. To help him, Luffy used his devil fruit abilities. You were just walking to the kitchen to ask Sanji about your drink when you felt it. The arm Luffy had stretched came at full speed at your back, throwing you against the wooden ship wall.
The wall you hit on was part of the kitchen, so Sanji had a good fright when he heard the really loud thump on the wall. Everyone outside stopped gasped and stopped everything they were doing. This time, there was no way you didn't get hurt. You've been the main target of Luffy's "stretch back on's" for quite some time now. You've only shown how they affected you to Chopper because he was the doctor and insisted on looking at your wounds. You were always covered in deep purple bruises all over your body.
You begged Chopper not to tell anyone, especially your captain, about them. You didn't want the rest of the crew to be worried about your every step because Luffy might hit you. But this time, there was no way to hide it. You hit face-first. You were going to have a huge black eye for a long time. And, come on! That hurt like a bitch! Time seemed to stop for the Strawhats, all of them worried about the hit you just got. But Luffy couldn't have been more oblivious to the harm he's just caused.
When Sanji came out of the kitchen to see what was happening, his eyes widened at you; sprawled out on the floor. Even Zoro got out of the crow's nest to see what was happening. He heard the bang from up there. "Y/n-swan! What happened?!", Sanji asked, running to help you up. Zoro came running as well, worried and curious as to why you were on the floor. You couldn't stand it anymore. You hadn't said a word, trying your best not to cry in front of the whole crew. "I'm okay.", you said, voice a little high pitched. Was all you could manage to say before running to your room, tears already running down your face.
"Hey! Usopp! Chopper! I asked you guys for help, not to stay there looking at the wind!", Luffy said, a little bit annoyed that his friends were not helping him. That's when Nami lost it. "Luffy, are you fucking serious right now? You didn't see what you just did to Y/n?", she screamed at the boy. Luffy was a little taken aback by the shouting. "What do you mean? Y/n is perfectly fine! She's right the-", he pointed to where you were a few minutes ago, resting. He was confused. Where were you? "Luffy, when you stretched your arm to get that fish, while it was stratching back, it hit Y/n with full force and she hit the ship wall at full, too. You hurt her really bad this time.", Robin explained to him the situation.
"Hold the horses, I hurt her?", Luffy asked, not believing what his ears. "Yes, Luffy. You've been hurting her for quite some time now, actually. She asked me to keep this a secret from you all, but I see no point in hiding it now. She is covered in black bruises all over her body.", Chopper said, hoping it would make things a little clearer. "That's why she's been wearing long sleeves and pants? I thought she was sick because there was no way she was feeling cold in these hot days we're going through.", Usopp said.
Luffy hasn't said anything. He was feeling the worst person on the planet. He's been hurting you over and over and didn't even notice! How could he? He was supposed to protect you. Not harm you. He started walking towards his cabin, head low and totally silent. "Are you alright, captain?", Zoro asked. "Yeah, just need to think about the things I've done. I need to think of a way to redeem myself.", Luffy said and walked away. Nami started walking to your room. She needed to make sure you were okay.
When she arrived, she heard you crying from outside the door. She opened and couldn't believe her eyes. She heard Chopper say you were covered in black bruises, but she didn't think it was like this. How were you even standing? "N-Nami! What are you doing here?", you asked, trying to cover your body. "Don't need to hide it anymore. Chopper told us everything, but I didn't know they were this bad!", she said, worried. You couldn't believe it. Chopper told them?! That little reindeer was gonna pay you back.
You and Nami talked the whole afternoon, and you decided you shouldn't be ashamed of the bruises. So, instead of going to dinner in the long sleeves and pants you were used to, you went with a tank top and shorts. When you arrived at dinner, all the Strawhats were shocked at the amount of bruises you had, but didn't dare say a word, and you were thankful for it. You were feeling better not having to hide them anymore. Dinner rolled around pretty light, everyone laughing and having a good time. But something was missing. Where was your captain?
"Hey, guys. Where's Luffy?", you asked, really worried. He never skipped any meal. But as soon as the words left your mouth, the kitchen door swung open to reveal a blood and bruise covered Luffy. "I'm right here." he said, entering the kitchen in most calm of ways. "What happened to you?!", you yelled, worried. That's when he turned to you and saw your bruises. The guilt was eating him alive. He's done all those bruises on you. How dare he? How dare he be so stupid? So distractive. He dropped to his knees in front of you. Turning to look at you, tears in his black eyes. "Please, forgive me. I never, ever intended to hurt you. You are one of the few people I care about most in the world. I can't believe I've done this to you and not noticed! God, I feel so stupid!", he said, gripping his hair as if trying to rip it off.
You couldn't believe your eyes. How did he get this beaten up? "Me and the stupid marimo did it. He asked us to go at him with everything we got, and he didn't dodge one hit.", Sanji said, you didn't realise you said your thoughts outloud. "He said the only way he could redeem himself for what he did to you. If he suffered all the pain he made you feel.", Zoro said, completing Sanji's speech. You were feeling your eyes get filled with tears and a chuckle scaped you. "Stupid, wreckless captain. Of course I forgive you.", you said, gripping his chin for him to look at you. Luffy looked up and searched for your eyes to see if he could find any doubt. He didn't.
He smiled up at you and hugged you tight, you giving him the same treatment. He got up and started spining around with you in his arms. He was so happy right now. When he stopped spinning, he looked in your eyes. You had feelings for your captain way before this all happened, but never told them to anyone. Not even Nami. So when you sealed your lips on a sweet kiss, you were terrified of what was going to happen. But feelings were already all over the place. What harm could it cause adding one more?
The crew went dead silent and focused closely on what would happen next. Luffy looked at you, astonished. It passed a few seconds, and you thought you ruined everything. But then Luffy opened that usual wide grin of his, letting that laugh of his and kissed you again, spinning you around one more time. The Strawhats started shouting, happy for their captain and their crewmate. "Yohoho, I never expected that y/n would have hidden feelings for our dear captain!", Brook commented happy.
All the joy quieted down a bit, and everyone started eating the delicious dinner Sanji had prepared. Luffy sat beside you, not letting go of your hand for one second. You were going to figure out what you and Luffy were, but for now, you were happy to be more than just a friend. "Okay, now that everyone has solved their problems. Can you please stop hurting yourselves? I'm tired of taking care of beaten up crewmates.", Chopper said, making everyone burst out laughing.

You can't tell me that Sanji loves a melaninated queen who can absolutely wreck him. I can see his liking dominant women who aren't afraid of speaking their mind. A women who will absolutely indulge in Sanji's perverted fanatics even if it means getting him roughed up.
A/N: I LITERALLY HAVE A WRITING W BLACK Y/N THAT LOVES HIS PERVINESS IN MY DRAFTS BUT U ADDING THE DOMINANT PART? Yesss imma just move what I wrote to here hehe also this is way longer than I thought so I’ll make a part two.

Having a Crush on Pervert Sanji (Black Fem! Reader) Part 1
Tumblr media
C/W: pervert Sanji, Alotta Kissing, And Yeah?
-
You really love perverts. (Not Mineta)
You think that’s why you fell in love with Sanji.
He has no sense of boundaries besides not putting his feet hands on women .
He’s a pervert though.
Which is why so many women have turned him down he comes off too strong,
But you.
You really like it.
Imagine how bad of a pervert he’d be with three women on the ship and you being the only one that actually feeds to his pervertedness.
You let Sanji get away with so much,
You invite him to take a shower, you let him in your room when you’re not in there, you let him nuzzle his face in your breast at the most random times, and even kissed him a few times out of excitement.
You stress the crew out (especially Nami) sometimes doing this to Sanji, Do you know how many trips to Chopper he had to take because of you?
You were too good to him, and he knew that.
Which is why he’s more protective of you. No man can have the leeway he has. Sanji never seen you allow any other men to get as close as he was with you so clearly he was the special one.
“Y/nnnnn, why do you beat that guy THAT badly?! We got kicked out of the store I didn’t even get that pretty shirt in the window!”
“Because Nami that asshole kept touching my thigh….You can look at the merchandise not touch it.” Nami just didn’t get you, you always damn near kill a guy for even cat calling you, but Sanji the perv does way worse and you just give him a pass.
“If it was Sanji you’d let him do it.” Robin added as you three walked back to the ship.
“Of course, he’s Sanji.” You just shrugged as if that was an obvious statement, because it was. You had a soft spot for the Blondie, ever since you joined you liked his company so by default you were more flirtatious around him than any other man.
That was just an unspoken rule for you both.
However as much as you touched him and you let him touch you it never gotten as far as you giving him a kiss. And that alone was something Sanji could just accept.
He’d never take advantage of you no, no. But today he wanted to push that boundary.
“Y/NNNNNNNNNNN!!!” You just came back from the Crow’s Nest training with Zoro all day, you were irritated, hungry, thirsty, and tired and the ring of Sanji’s love struck voice didn’t help.
“Hey hey, Ji…” your voice was weakened from the yelling you also did with Zoro because he kept making you do “JuSt oNe mOrE sEt”. Sanji immediately noticed this when you came down from the ladder and rushed to see his favorite girl, your pretty brown skin was shiny and wet from your sweat, your hair were no longer in its typical bun but now out and wild covering your face. You really wished you had braids in now. You looked and felt a mess. Almost embarrassed to be seen by your Prince. He didn’t care, he loved seeing you this way, in your natural state; no makeup, no flashy clothing, and venerable. Sanji knew only he was permitted to see you like this.
“My love, you look like you’re about to faint!” He grabs you tightly by the waist, you lean your head on his shoulder almost immediately. His thumb rubbed your hand for a short while before just picking you up bridal style to the kitchen. “You don’t need to walk, Princess I got you!”
You giggled in his neck and hummed, Sanji tilted his head to tap your warm cheek against his walking to the kitchen to liven you up before bed, you feeling his strong arms hold up your not so clean body, he loved holding you like this, and since you’re only wearing a sports bra and spandex shorts he got to see your breast and thighs jiggle as he picked you up. “I stink Sanji I should take a bath.”
“Nonsense, you smell as beautiful as you look!” His words seemed like such a lie, but even if you didn’t think so Sanji most definitely was telling the truth, he loved your smell, your natural scent, he wanted to savor it as you were so close to his nose, but he knew later tonight he’d be able to when you invite him sleep with you tonight.
Because that’s what you always do.
“Drink this.” He gave you a cup with water and a lot of ice—-just how you like it. You already downed the water in two big gulps, feeling the ice liquid flow all inside your chest granted you a perk of energy to want to take a bath, Sanji insisted you sit for a moment before doing so.
You sat in silence looking at the half eating cup of ice with your mind wandering somewhere else, you don’t even know what you’re thinking about, there was no noise beside the clashing of dishes being tossed from tonight’s dinner. You didn’t eat much because you and Zoro we’re going to train right after, you regret the decision now as you felt your tummy growl. You didn’t want to eat so late though…but fuck it why not you worked your butt off tonight and you knew your Prince would be more than happy to give you something to eat.
“Ji…” Almost as if he read your mind (or heard your stomach) he placed a bowl of your favorite fruit in front of you. He presented it in his waiterly and gentleman like fashion throwing a small wink at you when you look back up at him.
“If you’re still hungry i can make you a smoothie.” He turned to finish cleaning the counter of the slight mess he made from the fruit remnants. “You should eat something light after a workout. Also I’ll kick that moss head’s ass later for going too hard on you. I heard you both yelling from here…asshole never knows how to treat a lady.”
You huff a giggle at his last remark with half the piece of the refreshing fruit in your mouth before chewing. This was so much better than what you were going to ask for and Sanji knew it. You felt the juices squirt out of your mouth once you swallowed your last piece and wanted to thank your favorite cook for such a filling and sweet post workout meal.
“Ji…” You nearly moan out to get his attention completely, he turns around with his same love struck face, but it’s more subdued and a tinge of red on his cheeks. He noticed the light mess on your lips dripped down your chin and hurried to your aid with a paper towel to hand you. Instead of using that to wipe your face you grabbed the cook’s cheeks to give him a wet sloppy kiss in return.
You always liked the idea of him cleaning you up.
His eyes were shot open wide for a moment not registering how quick you were , but they then rolled back feeling your cold wet lips touch his, he returned the favor of the kiss to sucking the rest of the juice off your mouth. You usually never go far as to a peck on his cheek or a few peppered kisses but tonight Sanji damn near couldn’t take it he wanted to taste you. Surprisingly you didn’t push back when he furthered the kiss. Both of his arms keeping steady with holding both the back of your chair and the edge of the table bent over.
Sanji moaned in your mouth and you only had half a second to decide but you slid your tongue inside the small opening almost as if you were pushing your way through and explored his mouth. It tasted like cigarettes and something sweet mixed with the fruit you just ate. It was a weird combination, but it’s taste was addictive.
In that moment Sanji felt like he died and went straight to Heaven, your lips were still so soft and moisturized and he nearly felt embarrassed you were doing all the work, because you were the only woman to ever kiss him. He was weak to you and he wanted nothing more than to be used by you—whatever you wanted to do to Vinsmoke Sanji you were granted the pleasure of doing so.
“More…” His voice was cracked and nearly whining when you pulled back, you came back to his lips when he grabbed you with both hands on your cheeks to finish what you started. “More..”
“Sanji i—…mmmph!!” He barely let you breathe he NEEDED more of you to taste. In the back of your head you knew this probably shouldn’t have been a good idea. You knew Sanji, you knew he was touched starved, and you knew eventually your toying with him would get you in trouble.
“Sanji Wait!” You Held his shoulders back to breath out a chuckle, you looked up at his face and he had that same goofy love struck grin with blood now smeared on his cheek. You both were panting when Sanji kneeled in between your thighs not looking away at you, almost as if he were begging. You never had a man so…needy for you before, but somehow…it was a turn on? No. Couldn’t be. You only had sex once before with an old tatted pirate captain in your past and he was very dominant causing you to be the one begging. But this? …
“What are you Doing, Sanji?” Your Voice nearly teasing as your hands were cupping his cheeks rubbing the wetness of it.
“I…please…please do what you want…to me.”
Good thing you like trouble.

Hello there
This one is a bit lengthy but can i please get headcanons of the straw hats reaction to an admiral reader(gender neutral please) who quits the marine to join them, and is at first is distrusted but does something to gain theirs trust
I hope it's not too much trouble
It's no trouble at all! I really like this idea, it was a ton of fun to write! I hope you enjoy it ^^
Luffy:
He found you during a fight with the marines
He noticed...you were so much stronger than the marines you were fighting with
Maybe not strong in comparison to Luffy...but he was extremely powerful so comparing to him isn’t fair
He saw you deal what should have been a finishing blow to his crewmates…
But for some reason you never hit them hard enough to kill them
Down them, sure...but never kill
He makes quick work of the other marines, and approaches you with a smile
“Join my crew!”
You looked at him baffled
“Quit the marines and throw away all my hard work to become an admiral because some...kid thinks I would be a good match for his crew? No thanks.”
Luffy left it at that, but knew he’d see you again soon
You encountered him once more at a nearby island
“Is...is that offer still on the table?”
He grinned wide and pulled you by your hand to his ship
He couldn’t put his finger on it...but something was special about you
He just knew the crew would love you
After they get over their initial distrust that is
But Luffy? He trusted you already
No hesitation, he knew you had a good heart and that’s what really mattered
Zoro:
He didn’t trust you...at all
He would go silent when you talked to him, giving you the silent treatment
He didn’t trust the marines...how was he supposed to know you weren’t there as a spy?
You tried to talk to him a couple times...but he just pretended he was sleeping
One day, he was up in the crow’s nest training and you walked in
“Mind if we spar? It’s been a while since I was able to.”
Since you left the marines
He huffed but gave a firm “sure”
He didn’t go easy on you, which surprised him when you handled yourself fairly well
You parried his attacks, and gave a few good jabs of your own
He respected your strength
He still won...but he expected to beat you within seconds
Not minutes, nearly half an hour of sparring
From then on, he’ll make small talk with you
Every once in a while he’ll go to take a nap and he’ll pull you down to lay beside him
He also sits next to you at the dinner table, even helping you fend off Luffy when he tries to steal your food
Overall...he respected strength. And if Luffy chose you...you were here to stay
Once he starts to trust you, he’ll protect you at all costs
Nami:
She trusts Luffy’s decision...but that doesn't mean she has to trust YOU
She won’t go out of her way to be mean...but she won’t help you if it means bending over backwards
She interrogates you, wanting to know why Luffy had chosen you
After days of interrogation on and off...she thinks she sees why
You were unhappy in the marines
Sure...you managed to become an admiral...but the happiness you had hoped to feel just wasn’t there
She discovered that in the short time you’ve been on this ship, you’ve felt happier than you ever did in the marines
She’ll be nicer after that, slowly building up her trust in you
“Want me to show you how I chart the islands we go to?”
Even if cartography wasn’t your thing, you figured it would help get you closer to Nami
After that, you would spend hours upon hours with Nami
She can be very...very protective
So once she trusts you, any comments about you that weren’t warranted she’d defend you
She wants to get closer to you, and spends the majority of her time with you
Either sitting on the deck or working on her maps
She even tells Sanji off if he starts to bother you, making the hearts in his eyes break
She’ll protect you...and she knows in her heart you’d protect her too
Usopp:
He is so...so scared of you at first
You were an ADMIRAL
How could you just give up that position to join a crew?
Doesn’t trust you for a good long while
He’s convinced you’re a spy
He lets his imagination get to him, and that drives a wedge between you two
You don’t blame him...the situation is sketchy, but you were genuine
You would spend all the time needed to get the crew to trust you
After only being with them a short period of time...you trusted them with your life
And that’s never happened before
In the marines...people wouldn’t go out of their way to save another if it meant getting hurt in the process
During battle, you stepped in front of Usopp and took a harsh blow, forming a long slash across your chest
After that...he’s significantly nicer to you
He visits you in the infirmary and looks...troubled
“What’s wrong Usopp?” You give him a concerned look
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why did you save me...you’re hurt now. Because of me.”
You smiled at him...so he did care
This was a good first step
Maybe eventually you can become even closer
Sanji:
He’s reluctant to trust you at first, but Luffy seems to see something in you…
Just like he saw something in him
So he tries to get closer to you, even going so far as to not flirt with you
Not until he got to know you better
The first time he really began to see the trust between you building was a regular day
Nothing particularly special about it, except you went into the kitchen while he was cooking
“Mind if I help?” It was your attempt to get closer to him
“Of course! Here, I need this mixed.”
You cooked together in relative silence, small talking every once in a while
Overall it was...nice
It was a bonding experience and he cherished it
That day, he sat next to you at the dinner table
You gave him a wide smile, which he returned
He would defend you to anyone who spoke ill of you after that
He could be quite protective, and it showed
Especially to Zoro, who made comments about your being a spy (which only made Usopp and Chopper panic more about the situation)
“Hey marimo! They don’t deserve the bullshit you’re throwing at them. Back off.”
“What are you gonna do about it, shitty cook?” A smirk formed on Zoro’s face
Oh dear...it looks like they’re fighting again
You went to speak up, but Nami stopped you
“They get like this sometimes. Though it’s impressive how quick Sanji was to take the bait this time...I think he likes you.” She gives you a wink and your face flushes
Who knows what the future will bring...all you know? Is that you made the right choice to join this crew
Chopper:
He wants to trust you...he really does
But the nagging fear of you hurting his crew is at the back of him mind
He avoids you, not wanting to risk getting hurt
Once you get injured in battle...he realizes how unfair it was that he did so
“I’m sorry y/n...you’re hurt. Please follow me to the infirmary.”
He keeps it relatively formal, only talking when he needed to do something to check on you
“Would you...come back in a couple days so I can check on the wound and how it’s healing?”
You gave him a smile “yes doctor! Thank you!”
“Hehe you don’t have to thank me I don’t deserve your thanks I was just doing what I’d do for any of our crew!” He swayed back and forth, his paws on his face as he smiled
You could swear you saw flowers around him…
After that, he invited you to play games with him, Usopp, and Luffy
While Usopp was still reluctant, Luffy was 100% on board
“Come on y/n! Play with us!” Chopper smiled up at you and...well...there’s no way you could say no to his adorable face
So you joined in
It was fun...more fun than you thought possible to have
You laughed as Chopper tagged you, and you spun around picking him up in a hug
“Chopper...thank you.”
He smiled and laughed, “for what? Tagging you?”
You shook your head, putting him down
“No...for being a good friend.”
And he was, he was your best friend. You grew closer to him in the days following and you were certain you made the right decision
Robin:
She knows what it’s like to not be trusted by the crew initially...but at least with her it was one pirate to another
You were a marine
And not just a marine...but an admiral
She is reluctant to trust you, but will give you the benefit of the doubt
She spends a lot of time with you, gauging if you’re a threat to her crew or not
She would sacrifice herself for any one of them...you’re no exception
She almost thinks its her JOB to determine if you’re a threat or not
It wasn’t until your first battle together that she finds she trusts you
You give her a look, and she knows to use her devil’s fruit
You both coordinate perfectly together, and it shows your trust
She has only battled so flawlessly with her crew...which means you’re entirely one of them now
She will defend you from that fight forward, and stands up for you when the others express their doubts
“Y/n? Would you like to read with me?” She pats the spot next to her and smiled at you
“Of course! What are we reading today?”
The two of you grow closer and closer, spending hours upon hours just...enjoying each other’s company
She looks at your smile and knows...she would do anything to keep that happy smile on your face
Franky:
He doesn’t trust you...but he doesn’t...NOT trust you
He’s reluctant to get close, but finds it’s really easy with you
He’s newer to the crew, but he trusts Luffy’s judgement
So he doesn’t have any reason not to give you a chance
He’ll spend time with you, requesting you sit in his workroom as he works on a specialized weapon for you
Over that time, you make a lot of small talk
It brings you closer together
“Y/n! What do you think?” He’ll say holding up your now finished weapon “Pretty super, right? Don’t you just love it?” He has a look of pride on his face that makes you grin
You take the weapon into your hands and feel the weight is perfect
Not light, but not overly heavy either
“Thank you Franky!” You jump up to hug him and miss seeing his face turn a dark crimson
“O-of course! Anything for a crewmate!” He hugs you back, lightly as if he’s afraid he’ll break you
This makes you laugh, “Franky...I was an admiral remember? I won’t break from a hug!”
“Well then...take this!” He lifts you up, spinning you around in circles
You both laugh, pulling each other closer and closer
Once he sets you down you see the fleeting color of pink on his cheeks
You were sure your face mirrored the same color
He knows in that moment he would protect you
Even if you didn’t need it
Maybe...protect isn’t the right word
It sounds so...one sided
“I’ll protect you...will you protect me?” He looks sheepish, almost as if he hated asking
You lean up and kiss his cheek
“I’ll protect you Franky. I’ll protect all of us...this crew...it’s special.”
He nods, knowing exactly what you meant
“Then we’ll protect each other.”
And it was settled
Brook:
As soon as you stepped onto the ship he approached you
“Your name is y/n...correct?”
“Yup! That’s me!”
He leaned down so your…”eyes” were level with each other
“Can I see your panties?”
SLAP
“...is that a no?”
It’s safe to assume...he doesn’t judge you for being an admirable
Though seeing some of the crew be distant from you...it only motivates him to speak to you more
You looked tired after playing with the crew on deck, so he approached you
“Would you like me to play you a song to help you sleep?”
You stared wide eyed, not knowing he was the musician on the ship
“Sure! Would you...maybe be able to teach me how to play an instrument?”
“Which instrument would you like to learn?”
You hummed, “I’m not sure. I’ll get back to you on that.”
And so he played you a song
It put not only you, but Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper to sleep
He would have grinned if he could, and looked over his crewmates with love
As he finished the song he looked at you once again
“Sleep well y/n...I’ll see you tomorrow.”

small things
@einfach-antonia didn’t ask, but it’s for her. Hope you like it.
"Oe, Tashigi! What are you doing?"
It was almost 3 p.m. and Zoro was looking for the marine to start their daily workout. Tashigi was nowhere to be found — not in their bedroom, not in the kitchen, not in the Crow’s Nest already waiting for him. He looked on every corner of the Sunny and was surprised to see her laying on the floor under Nami’s tangerine trees.
"Meditating", she said with her eyes closed.
"Lying down? I'm pretty sure that's not how it's done", he looked at her from above, an eyebrow raised.
"It's a different meditation."
"How so?", Zoro decided to sit next to her and watch her soft features.
"Instead of focusing on the tranquil wind or the swinging of the leaves and the grass, I'm focusing… on the sound of the water running down the sink while Sanji-san washes the dishes, focusing on the sound of the wind hitting Luffy-san's straw hat while he fishes, or the sound of Chopper-kun's laughter", Tashigi hums and continues, "I'm paying attention to the noise of Usopp-san's hand working on the Clima-Tact and the turning of the pages of the book Robin-san is reading…"
She closed her eyes and tells him more, "I'm concentrating on the sound of Nami-san's pencil scribing the paper, on the screw and unscrew of bolts of a possible new project of Franky-san."
Zoro simply couldn’t tear his gaze away from the peaceful expression Tashigi had on her face while she spoke. It was mesmerizing.
"I'm listening to the soft whistling of Jinbe-san while he steers Sunny and to the low murmur of a possible new song of Brook-san", then suddenly she opened her eyes and glanced affectionately at him, "and lastly, I'm listening to the clink of your three earings, Zoro."
He didn’t know how that woman was still able to make his heart flip even after five years. Maybe she is really a witch as people call her, he thought. Zoro came to the conclusion that she was an enchantress not only because of her unusual ability to bend swords to her will but because she was also able to bend him to her will.
That's the only explanation.
Tashigi pulled him by the hand so he could lay down next to her (and there she goes making him abide by any request she makes) and then hugging him and resting her head in the curve of his neck.
"I'm focusing on the small things that make you all, well… be who you all are. On the small things that made me feel at home."
He understands what she's telling him — after all, she was one of his methods of meditation. He has never told her, but sometimes, he'd just sit close to her and focus on her breathing and on the simple fact of her presence near him. They had danced around each other for so long that just having her there with him was like a real blessing.
And Zoro didn’t even believe in the divine.
"Mmm, aren’t you becoming too soft? Who would have thought that becoming a pirate would turn you into such a corny woman", he sneered because he knew the exact reaction that would come right after. He even lifted his hand already.
"You bastard!", she punched and he defended with his hand, "I'm allowed to be a little sentimental once in a while, thank you very much."
To be honest, Zoro thought she was allowed to do many things — he knew she'd always do good things, so he wouldn’t lose his sleep over that. The swordsman started to stroke her hair in slow movements and Tashigi seemed to calm down. He called her corny, but he was somewhat a softie too. Especially with her.
Or maybe just with her.
(Probably just with her since he wasn’t the type of person to show affection, but he didn’t know what’s with this woman that made him want to hug her every time he could. Obviously he doesn’t. God forbid him staining his aloof reputation.)
But when she’d say things like that, he'd become scared, something would always tug in his heart. He decided to never voice this doubt, but after her speech, he wanted to finally make sure.
"Don't you regret joining us?"
He was scared of her answer. He has always been scared she would break out of this strange spell someday and decide that that life wasn’t for her.
That he wasn’t for her.
"What a silly question. Of course I don’t. Why?", she leaned on her elbow and stared at him like she was talking to a dumb person.
"We're pirates. You've always been, you know… Miss Right. And I'm nothing but a pirate—"
"You are a lot of things, but you’re especially the man I choose to be with, you moron", she said without stuttering, but couldn’t hide the huge blush that crept in her face. Always wearing her heart on her sleeve, he thought fondly.
"Haa… you're really cheesy today, huh?", he shot her a crooked smile. Tashigi just rolled her eyes and leaned in to give a sweet kiss on his nose.
"Just shut up."
For some reason, Zoro liked what they had. And he liked to tease her or to feel her skin on his or to just touch her. It wasn’t a complicated relationship and he had to admit he was surprised in the beginning. She has always been a tough nut to crack (as well as him), but they seemed to fit. In every aspect — from their shared love for swordsmanship to her small figure that fills the right amount of space below his chin to the way he could hold her whole naked body in his arms.
"Get outta here with this chaste kiss, woman", he mumbled in her lips and smiled the most enticing smile he knew she liked. Tashigi blushed even harder and Zoro felt a wave of pride fill him to know he still made her feel like that after five years.
In a swift movement, he scooped her in his arms and spoke in her ear with the huskiest voice he could muster — the voice that he knew was truly effective against her, “Cmon, Glasses, we’re not gonna meditate anymore. We’re gonna do a different kind of training.”
Tashigi bit her lips with something alluring in her eyes. He smiled in a devilish manner and kept walking.
“But it’s in the bedroom.”

Go the Fuck to Sleep
For a while, when it was just the two of them, that was that. And then came Nami and Usopp and Sanji, and everyone else after that, and Luffy had clearly started something, because somehow one of the things that Zoro always learned about his new crewmates was when they slept, and when they didn’t.
Companion (sort of) to my fic Sleep is a Beast, Polar and Bear.
Usopp’s first night on the Going Merry involved very little sleep at all, since both Luffy and Usopp were way too excited, but in the following days Zoro learned that Usopp was a very restless sleeper.
Given Usopp’s story-telling and his general outlook on life, Zoro was thoroughly unsurprised to learn that their new sniper had fairly frequent bad dreams, during which he, also unsurprisingly, yelled and thrashed. When Zoro laid a hand on his shoulder to wake him up, Usopp would then jerk awake, wide-eyed and frantic. But he also calmed down fairly quickly, the solid unjudging presence of Zoro and the quiet creak of the ship restoring normality to Usopp’s world – as much as there ever was.
He also talked. A lot. Because of this Zoro knew that mostly, Usopp’s nightmares had to do with giant flesh-eating plants, or poisonous glass spiders, or enormous sniper-crushing babies. Some of these terrors fuelled the stories Usopp told to Luffy, and later on Chopper, suitably embellished with Usopp’s own bravery. The bad dreams ramped up after any particularly nasty fight, but would always settle down afterward, and Usopp seemed to regard them as fair trade for a healthy, active imagination. Zoro learned that once Usopp had given the dreams voice, and set them apart from his own personal terrors, they held no power over him.
So when Usopp babbled, Zoro listened.
---
Sanji – the asshole – kicked. On the cook’s first night on the Going Merry he had thrashed so much during a bad dream that he’d fallen out of his hammock. While this was admittedly amusing to Zoro, it was hilarious to Luffy and Usopp, who had howled with laughter and Sanji had then made everyone, including Zoro, suffer as a result.
Unfortunately any attempt on Zoro’s part to calm the cook during his bad dreams had resulted in countless bruises on Zoro’s thighs and arms from Sanji’s restless – and stupidly fucking powerful – legs.
Now, though, Zoro knew to leave those sorts of dreams well enough alone. When Sanji had room to fight, Zoro knew he was gonna be fine. All Zoro would need to do was deliver a sharp poke to Sanji’s back through the mesh of the hammock or, later on, thump the underside of Sanji’s bunk hard enough to rattle the frame. Sanji would wake with a start, deliver a glare with half-lidded eyes, or sleepily curse Zoro, and then he would roll over, and go back to sleep. Problem solved.
It was the other sort of dream that Zoro had to watch out for – when Sanji was curled into the foetal position so tightly that in the morning watching him unfurl was painful, for all the stiff muscles and cracking joints. Zoro never asked what caused those dreams – like hell Sanji would ever share something like that with him – but he knew they were far worse than the others, if only because they made Sanji’s spirit go sad and small, and then Zoro would be reaching for his swords before he realised what he was doing.
The first time one of those dreams happened, it interrupted Zoro on the way back from appropriating a midnight snack from the larder. Zoro looked down at Sanji’s tense and unhappy form with a frown. Then, following some half-formed thought, waved his half-eaten sandwich under the cook’s nose. Sanji, ever so slightly, uncurled.
Which led to Zoro sitting at the galley table, surrounded by small piles of herbs, squares of muslin nicked from Chopper’s bandage stores, and pieces of string. As Zoro clumsily tied the small bundles of herbs closed, struggling to knot the piece of string with large fingers, a distant part of him pointed out that he was a grown man, and this was a fucking ridiculous activity.
Zoro ignored the voice and resorted to using his teeth to tighten the knot. He wondered how long it’d take the herbs to loose their scent, and whether Sanji would notice the infrequent pilfering of his rosemary. Or if Sanji would notice the bundles tied discreetly above his hammock, wedged in the nearby wall, and buried in his pillow.
Whatever. Sanji slept better from then on, and Zoro would deny any involvement to his dying breath.
--
Nami had this stubborn thing about what she called a ‘proper sleep schedule’. Zoro supposed it was some sort of hopeless attempt to introduce a sense of grounding into the pretty shitty life she had led under Arlong. In practice, what it meant was that when Nami had nightmares she didn’t just give up and stay awake like a normal person (Zoro), but tried to get back to sleep. Which would get her stuck in a loop of nightmares that, for the continuous waking up and low-level dozing, had her trapped in a hellish half-lucid world that was dark and unforgiving.
It felt shitty to Zoro – as he stood outside Nami’s door, a couple of nights after she joined the crew proper – and he could only imagine what it must be like to live it. Unfortunately, Zoro couldn’t just walk in there. Nami had very strict rules about privacy which, while mostly for Sanji’s benefit, apparently still applied to the rest of the male crew – and Zoro was not going to betray Nami’s fragile trust like that.
All Zoro could do was try and interrupt the cycle by making enough noise outside Nami’s door to wake her up enough that the next time Nami fell asleep it was, hopefully, dreamless.
Not too much noise – because then she’d yell at him (though that worked too) – but weight training on the directly adjacent deck worked; as did jumping jacks (which Zoro, personally, loathed, but – sacrifices); bouncing Usopp’s hideously annoying rubber balls against the wall (which during the day Zoro would have personally fed to the sniper through sheer irritation); and a variety of other odd pursuits that, if Nami were thinking clearly, she would have perhaps stopped to question.
Anyway, they seemed to provide enough proof of an outside world that Nami could shake off whatever it was that was giving her night terrors – probably Arlong, that asshole, and Zoro was deeply thankful Luffy had punched the damn fish into oblivion – and get some actual rest.
---
Chopper was scared of monsters – not the normal ones in the closet or under his bed, but the ones he sometimes turned himself into. When the monsters rose up in Chopper’s sleep, Zoro could feel them too, looming in the back of consciousness and namelessly threatening Zoro and the people Zoro loved, his new nakama and Doctrine and Hilulik-
Which is how Zoro knew Chopper was slipping into a nightmare; other people’s ghosts had always had a way of sticking to Zoro. Yet another reason to chase away his friend’s nightmares.
The nightmares left the littlest doctor trembling violently in his smallest form, trying desperately to be brave but clearly terrified by the residual terrors his mind had conjured up. Zoro honestly found this situation pretty easy to fix, because all it involved was – and there was no other word for this – cuddling.
It’s fine, Zoro told himself determinately, Totally Manly, because his crewmate needed him and he could meditate just fine with a ball of fur in his lap as without.
---
Robin, who was perhaps the only member of the crew who had as many sleepless nights as Zoro, seemed to have perfected the cat nap. Zoro wasn’t entirely sure what it was in her past that gave her such bad insomnia, and seeing as it made her damn near suicidal Zoro was just gonna go ahead and adopt Luffy’s standard Don’t Ask Don’t Tell position when it came to his crewmate’s past. So Robin grabbed sleep at random times, an hour here and there when nothing much was happening and was unlikely to happen. Zoro got the feeling that the habit had been developed over years of practice, and it was not going to change soon. Sometimes Robin napped at night, but she never slept for more than a few hours at a stretch.
Once though, she did, accidentally.
One night, not too long after Water 7, Zoro was halfway through a set that even he was starting to get bored with, when something caused him to jerk with sudden alarm towards the door of the crow’s nest. There stood Robin, pale and somehow… less, than usual. Zoro had seen her enter the women’s quarters at the same time as the rest of the crew went to bed, to catch a few hours sleep like she usually did before she woke and spent the rest of the night reading. Zoro rapidly surmised that Robin must not have woken up after two or three hours like usual, but had slept for – Zoro squinted at the position of the moon, visible out the windows – maybe five hours.
And fucked if Zoro knew what to do with this one, having little experience with Robin specifically and women in general. But all Robin did was walk – stiffly, like a puppet – to one of the benches against the wall and sit down. Her face was shadowed, but she waved one arm vaguely at Zoro. Zoro took this as an indication he should resume his set, which he did out of a lack of anything better to do. After a while, the tight, awful feeling that wound around Robin like a coiled spring eased, and the tense lines of her body softened slightly. The simplicity and rhythm of Zoro’s training routine had seemed to help, somehow.
After that, Zoro had clocked Robin’s naps, and anytime one stretched to anything more than three hours he made sure to do something loud in her vicinity. It probably wasn’t necessary, but it made him feel better.
---
Franky built the Sunny with enough bunks for all of them, but he himself was easily twice the size of any of them. Zoro wondered about this, until the night he took a wrong turn. The Merry’s replacement was much larger and unexpectedly unfamiliar, and Zoro was looking for the cellar for a night-cap when he found the engine room instead. The engine room, and Franky, who was dead asleep and snoring, partly curled around something that to Zoro's untrained eyes might have be a boiler. Subsequent, less accidental, excursions to the engine room in the quiet hours of the night satisfied Zoro that Franky was generally a heavy and undisturbed sleeper.
Until, that is, one of those rare nights spent ashore. The small town welcomed any ship that looked like it might perk up their island’s economy, including pirate ships. The Straw Hats spent a fun day causing minor havoc – well, Luffy did – and then found themselves passable accommodation to spend the night. Franky tried to slip off back to the Sunny, but Nami pinned him with a glare and said that if she was forking out for the luxury, then everyone was going to damn well enjoy it. Franky’s shoulders tensed, but he laughed like it was no big deal.
Zoro frowned. He didn’t buy it.
And so at least one of them was entirely unsurprised when Zoro and Franky plowed into each other at two a.m. in a darkened hallway.
It was of course Zoro who was left rubbing the sore spot on his head (because Franky was made of metal), but he wasn’t surprised.
“Zoro!” Franky said sheepishly. “Don’t suppose you know where the can is in this place?”
Zoro shrugged, his nose and left eyebrow still smarting. “Outside, in the back alley.”
“Cool, thanks bro.” Franky started to head off. “Goodnight!”
Uh huh. Zoro waited a few minutes, and then followed Franky downstairs into the deserted dining area.
He joined Franky at a small table. The cyborg dwarfed the furniture in the room; he looked like an adult sitting at the kid’s table.
Franky didn’t look surprised to see Zoro joining him. He reached down and popped open his chest – revealing that most of the storage space was used for cola – and pulled out a pack of cards.
“Poker, blackjack?” Franky offered.
Zoro wouldn’t have had the first fucking idea. “How about Go Fish?”
Franky laughed at that and dealt out the cards.
They were several rounds in when Franky rolled his shoulders with a noise like sliding metal. Zoro waited.
“Can’t usually sleep off-ship,” Franky said, eyes on his cards.
Doesn’t want to, Zoro mentally translated. But he merely said, “Any sevens?”
“Go fish,” Franky said. “It’s weird, you know? Like I lie down and all of a sudden everything’s itchin’ and achin’, phantom limbs and organ rejection and shit. Any Jacks?”
“Go fish,” Zoro said, also keeping his eyes on the cards. “It doesn’t happen during the day?”
“Nah,” Franky said, drawing a card from the stack, and matching four cards out from his hand. “Doesn’t happen on-board my girl, either."
Zoro made a thoughtful noise. "Kings?” Franky handed over two cards.
They played a few more rounds without further conversation.
“Sunny,” Franky murmured, as the stack got lower, “Sunny, she keeps me human.”
And afterwards, on those away-nights – ashore, away from Sunny – Zoro and Franky whiled away the evenings with conversation, cards, and cola.

When Brook joined the crew, Zoro fully expected to add another regular stop to his nightly nightmare-be-gone patrol, because boy was that some tragic backstory. But after several hours of skeleton jokes, Zoro started to wonder. He found a time to corner Brook and straight up ask him.
“Do you even need to sleep?”
Brook somehow managed to look sheepish, despite his complete lack of facial muscles. “Well, yes and no, Mr Swordsman.”
Zoro scowled at him, because his question was a little more meaningful than ‘can you poop?’ and sleep was an issue near and dear to his heart.
Brook hastened to explain. “I do not need to sleep, but sometimes I find it highly beneficial to do so.”
“You mean, to give your consciousness a break?” Zoro asked uncertainly, not entirely sure he wanted to follow that particular train of thought down its tunnel.
“Yes, exactly!” Brook beamed toothily at him. “Yohohoho,” he added, encouragingly.
Zoro still wasn’t happy despite Brook’s ineffable and slightly manic optimism, because Zoro had just added ‘ghost ship’ together with ‘permanently conscious’ and come up with ‘Not Good’. He resolved to keep an eye on Brook in any case.
It turned out that Brook didn’t sleep so much as switch off. Quite frankly it had creeped Zoro out, the first time he’d checked on the musician, because when he was unconscious Brook looked like, well, a skeleton. And nothing more – like Zoro could just pick up one of Brook’s bones and he would fall apart or crumble to dust. On the upside, it also seemed to be that when Brook’s consciousness took a hike, his subconsciousness went with it, which meant no nightmares as far as Zoro could tell. Zoro wondered how long it had taken Brook to learn that trick, on a ship full of dead nakama, and suspected that as much as Brook’s ‘sleep’ was restful now, it hadn’t been for a long, long time.

Sometime in the gap between Thriller Bark and Sabaody Zoro wonders how many more people Luffy’s going to adopt into his crew. He hopes it’s less than five – there are only so many hours in a night.

There's kind of a part 2 on AO3
