Introduction 自我介紹

Hi, everyone. This is Aqua, or @minecraftrelatedrandomness, on a sideblog. This is intended to be a pet project to translate MCYT content in general, and not just DSMP, into Chinese. 

I originally considered it a spin-off to @dreamsmpinchinese, an older sideblog more dedicated to DSMP, but since making those posts, I have considered branching out into more extensive projects, hence this sideblog. Also, I have decided to make my tags and content more accessible to an English-speaking audience on this blog.

Content-wise, other than retranslations of DSMP, I may translate from any server that I am familiar with, including and not limited to Empires, the Traffic series, ALSMP, Lovely World, and Hermitcraft by proxy (I may get into the series in the future).

I mainly use Traditional Chinese on this blog because I grew up using it, but I can also read Simplified Chinese, so feel free to send me asks in either variant of written Chinese or just English.

Translation Methods 翻譯方法

Language-wise, I will make a division between translating into Mandarin and Cantonese, or use a neutral variant that suits both. The reason behind this is because Cantonese is my mother tongue, but Mandarin is more widely spoken, so I try my best to find a balance between the two.

In terms of names, other than the linguistic divide, I may make two names or more for each person, at least a direct transliteration/translation and a Sinicized variant, mainly because the latter was the historical traditional method for translating that still continues to this day in Hong Kong, and I find it fun to do so.

Unlike the historical method, however, I prefer to use given names or screen-names as the basis for transliterating/translating names rather than the surnames, mainly because that is the persona us viewers are familiar with.

Another method I plan on using is giving the content creators and characters different names, especially if there is a greater disconnect between the two, to establish them as different people. This is something I did not do on my old blog, but frankly, this makes things more fun to me.

excuse me while I rant

My esteemed chemistry teacher,

Throughout the entire lockdown period, I did not, in fact, use CamScanner to submit my homework and used an actual scanner to scan my shit and upload it from PC. But the problem here is precisely this: I don't fucking know how to use the goddann app. I don't know how to make a retrieval pdf file on it. I don't know how to upload the file onto google classroom from the app.

Today you printed out hardcopies of two tests for my class to do, and then force us all to use CamScanner - the only exception granted to those who don't bring their phones to school - to upload softcopies to google classroom for submission.

LADY. THE HARDCOPY IS RIGHT FUCKING THERE. WHY THE FUCK CAN'T WE JUST SUBMIT THE HARDCOPY. YOU WERE THE ONE THAT PRINTED THIS OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHAT THE FUCK.

And then when I ask my teacher what I can do if I haven't downloaded the app, she tells me to download the app. with DATA. I tell her my family doesn't let me download the app with data because it uses a shit ton of data (in polite terms ofc). SHE STILL TELLS ME TO USE MY DATA TO DOWNLOAD THE FUCKING APP. I ask her if I can go home to scan it. She says it's a test so if I go home there would be a delay.

Now I ask as a student to students, who the fuck would want to touch a test paper to correct their answers when there's like a 50% chance they haven't studied for these tests that YOU ANNOUNCED WOULD TAKE PLACE TODAY… JUST YESTERDAY. Even if we haven't studied, why the fuck would we want to touch that thing after we finished it. Most of us aren't that perfectionistic enough to resort to cheating.

I ended up staying 20 minutes overtime from class ending total (more than most of the other students), trying to figure out how the fuck to use the app to upload retrievable pdf files. (I downloaded the app months ago and never bothered to use it.)

What a fucking mess. And it's all preventable too, since the only thing you had to do was ask a student to pass their stapler around and then TELL PEOPLE TO HAND IN THEIR TEST THE OLD FASHIONED WAY.

What degree of brainrot did this take to achieve. I thought this city was supposed to have an average of over 100 IQ, not fucking negative numbers. But seriously, all in all, my day is ruined, I'm sobbing my eyes out on an MTR train home STILL NOT KNOWING HOW THE FUCK TO USE THE APP, and since I have ANOTHER test at 3:30pm (thank god the teacher for that subject delayed the start time by half an hour to accommodate people who live far from school and stuff), I'm willing to bet that I'm not going to have enough time for lunch today.

Beneath Helix’s outward stillness, and his calm, the medic quavers on the wavelength that only Jedi can see. His rich, river-steady current roils, and the turbulence laps at Obi-Wan, the silt underfoot being dragged away. Eroding his shores. They need me. He can feel the creak in his spine as he forces out a nod. He’s only thirty-seven, he shouldn’t be feeling his bones creak, should he? Master Qui-Gon was sixty when he lost him, and there’s nothing Obi-Wan finds he wants more acutely, in that moment, than his Master.
