Okay, JPEG XL is actually rad. The size reduction I’m getting on my photos is insane. We need to make sure it succeeds just to spite Google removing compatibility for it in Chrome so they could push their own WEBP and AVIF formats.

Anyway. Since my dabble into WEBP, I've discovered that WEBP is actually considered a last generation format. I've also discovered that H.264 is ancient akin to the likes of JPEG, PNG, and GIF. So now I'm busy re-encoding all the videos on my Jellyfin server as AV1, and once that's done, I'm re-encoding all my photos as AVIF. If Shutter Encoder ever implements support for JPEG XL (JXL), then I'll be converting my photos again. There are no lengths I will not go to in order to save a few megabytes of storage space.

i see you've reblogged multiple posts about hating webp. gotta say i share the feeling.
theres an extension on firefox called don't accept webp that will tell sites to not use them if they have any other format for images.
hope this helps and isn't adding to a flood of asks with this information :)
Nah, you're the first one! (Tbh I haven't received many asks for the last couple of days. Makes a mod sad. 🤧)
Thing is, I know that extension, I have Firefox all ready to go and I often use it to save images from websites that don't allow right-clicking. Firefox is truly the superior browser. I just... can't seem to bring myself to make the final move from Chrome to Firefox. I don't know why. Idiocy? Laziness? Complacency? Probably all three.
So I just a webp converter like an idiot dumbass.
