The two adults that we're wanted, Frank and Joni Giovanni, have been caught. They have been arrested, and will be going on trail in the coming weeks. Frank will most likely will get an even longer sentence than before, and Joni will be charged and imprisoned for helping a convict. We will be sure to keep every updated in case of anything else that occurs. Thank you, and we return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Our Regularly Scheduled Program Vs Binge Watching
Every now and then the little light comes on and I grasp an insight into something that previously stared me in my oblivious face.
I was watching episodes of a popular sit-com* from 35 years ago, not a huge hit but certainly a cult favorite popular enough to stay available on recorded media and now streaming.
Not having seen it in well over two decades, I plopped down and started watching episodes back to back.
I got tired by ep. three.
The problem, I realized, lay in how the material was originally presented.
It used to be we’d have to wait every week for a show to come back at its appointed time, and present us with whatever shenanigans the characters got themselves into that week.
Most episodes were standalones, there was little forward progress in the stories and the tiny bit that did exist was mostly in the backstory, not the main plot.
Every week they gave us the same thing, only slightly different.
Mind you, I can appreciate the diametrically opposed tension facing shows of that era -- I wrote and story edited for TV at that time.
The audience wants the same thing they liked the last time…
…only different.
With daily shows like G.I. Joe and Transformers and Jem, trying to come up with something new enough not to be a dull repeat but not so different to alienate the audience was a challenge.
Luckily, the Sunbow series were awash in Joes and Autobots and pop stars and Little Ponies, so we could always find some underused character to build a novel story around, or to add a fresh twist to our old standards.
But even there, I don’t think one can binge watch too many at a time without feeling a certain sense of sameness.
Modern streaming series take that into consideration, but for me that works against them:  I like my stories done in one.
Your mileage may vary, of course.
I’ll watch a 3 hour epic movie without qualm, but I start balking at 7 - 13 - 26 episode story arcs.
I loved season one of Daredevil, never watched season two.
I loved season one of Luke Cage, never watched season two.
I hear people telling me how great The Mandalorian is and I believe them 100%.
No desire to watch it, however (though this may be more the fault of seeing too many Star Wars features films).
Likewise zero interest in any new Star Trek, or for that matter any of the various Star Trek imitators out there.
One and done ripoffs / parodies excepted, of course.
I have the same problem with old movie serials, a genre and format I adore.
Nowadays I tend to watch serials by viewing the first three and last two chapters.
Everything in between tends to be padding.
The Sopranos seemed to be the exception, but then the show lost Nancy Marchand, who played Mama Soprano, and with it the entire raison d’etre of the series.
I clung with it for several seasons past that before abandoning it long before the final blackout.
The Venture Bros. still grabs my attention, but like the Sunbow shows it has a large enough cast to give it the needed flexibility to keep the stories varied yet part of the same universe as well.
It’s reportedly coming to an end with season eight, and to that I say good:  Better to go out at the top of your game than jump the shark and flounder.
. . .
Modern audiences -- at least modern audiences with cable / satellite / Internet access --  no longer have the tacit sense of an appointed time and often and appointed place to enjoy media.
Prior to the electronic age, few people could be entertained whenever they wished unless they or a family member sang or played music or read aloud or told stories.
There were kings and nobles who kept musicians on tap and theatrical companies close at hand but even they were constrained by time and space.
Today’s audience can just whip out a phone and listen / watch / read whatever they want.
As a result, the sense of being an audience seems vanish.
An audience used to be those who came to a performance of some kind, even if it meant simply showing up in their own living room on Tuesday at 8:30pm (5:30 Pacific) to listen to Fibber McGee and Molly.
Even in one’s home, it meant setting aside a time to come in and listen or watch as a production presented its entertainment.
One may or may not like what one experienced, but the audience placed itself at the disposal of the program.
Transistors started changing that.
Transistors made small cheap radios easily affordable and eminently portable.
People could take their listening pleasure with them, and that marked the rise of recorded popular music programs instead of live scripted broadcasts.
It proved the first technological step in a long line of dominoes that completely upended the relationship of audience to entertainment.
The audience used to come and absorb patiently.
Now the entertainment needs to break through a thousand and one distractions.
It does so by escalating the sensationalism -- and by sensationalism I mean anything that’s designed to grab an audience’s immediate attention, no matter how well or thoughtfully executed.
It undercuts the lower key / slice of life popular entertainment audiences enjoyed generations ago.
(And, yes, Shakespeare & co. are filled with blood and thunder tales, but again, those were things one committed oneself to experiencing as the performers intended; audiences didn’t walk out en masse and go to a neighboring theater in mid-performance.)
. . .
The problem with ongoing stories is this:  At any point they can be upended by fiat, negating all that’s come before.
Go ask a comic book fan how many times DC has destroyed the universe.
My reluctance to enjoy open ended fiction is that I like being able to mull over a story once it is completed, teasing out the full measure and meaning of what I’ve just experienced.
I’ll risk a program like The Queen’s Gambit because I know it’s a limited series withn a finite ending.
I wouldn’t watch an open ended series based on Walter Tevis’ book.
My career as a writer and an editor enables me to see the gears turning behind the scenes in a story.
More often than not I’m already several plot beats ahead of any movie or TV episode I’m watching.
I bailed on a highly recommended current program recently just halfway through the first episode.
I got the joke.
I knew where it was going.
Nothing about it enticed me to keep following.
The classic sit-com mentioned above wore thin because it was the same damn joke every time.
It’s a funny joke, mind you.
And when seen the way originally intended, I’d have a week to forget about the details of the previous episode, to be hungry of that particular brand of humor for a bit, and be willing to take a repeat of material a week later.
But back-to-back-to-back?
No.
Legendary writer / producer Stephen Cannel sold the first story he ever pitched to a detective series called Ironside w-a-a-a-y back in 1971.
Cannel began his pitch thusly:  “One morning Ironside wakes up with the worst toothache he’s ever had in his life…”
And instantly everyone in the pitch session paid rapt attention.
Why?
Because they knew that whatever came next, it wasn’t going to be something they’d heard a thousand times before.
I’d rather have one simple thing that grabs me than a million and one fireworks attempting to get my attention.
And I’d rather experience that one thing and be able to process it rather than see another installment that undoes everything set before.
. . .
As I’ve posted elsewhere, there’s a place for comfort food TV.
My wife and I enjoy Emily In Paris.
It reminds us of our trips to France and the stories and characters are just interesting enough to be amusing but not so demanding as to require full attention.
Nothing wrong with comfort food TV.
But the real nutrition is found elsewhere.
And for me, this applies to all modes of art and entertainment.

{Cinderella AU} Night and Day
CHAPTER FIVE
Kit leaned against the back door of the kitchen and held the flower close to his chest with a wide grin as he looked down at the petals and gently ran his hand over them, it perhaps hadn’t been the most romantic day but….well Kit felt like he’d known Hades all his life.
It was only a moment later that Kit was seized by a gushing Honey and Crowley chuckling as he sauntered in
“Lover boy! How’d the date go?” Crowley asked with a suggestive eyebrow waggle, Kit laughed a bit and rolled his eyes
“Nothing happened, not really anyway.” He said gazing down at the flower in his hands Honey laughed and pulled him over to the table where she already had tea waiting, Kit suspected that one of them likely had their eyes glued to the window waiting for his return the entire time. Honey poured each of them a cup of tea
“Alright spill,” she said Kit raised a brow at her and began slowly tipping his cup towards the floor, Honey swatted at his arm and rolled her eyes while Crowley snorted with laughter
“Not like that you jerk! How did it go? Tell us about your day.” Honey encouraged him Kit knew that she didn’t get out very much and that this was likely her only form of entertainment for the night, so Kit decided to amuse her. He leaned back in his chair and recited all the events of the day. Picking flowers with felicity and telling them both fantastical tales of magic and daring escapes that had the two of them with rapt attention, the most delightful foods that Kit had ever tasted and talking with Hades, gosh it had been fantastic.
“It was a wonderful day, he’s just wonderful in general! Wonderful hair, wonderful smile, wonderful- “
He had been about to say name when he paused as the dawn of realization hit him and he went a ghostly shade of white, quickly noticed by Crowley
“What’s wrong?” Crowley asked him as Kit suddenly looked devastated and reality set in as he sank his head in his hands with a groan about how stupid he was. Honey was beginning to worry and frowned
“Kit what’s the matter? Is it something that deserves me hitting him because I will?” Honey said she even rolled up her sleeves for emphasis, but Kit shook his head and looked up at them
“I…. I’m an idiot. I never got his last name.” Kit said and like that his fairy tale was just that. A story to be told and cherished rather than getting to continue. Honey and Crowley both looked just as disappointed and Honey pulled him into a hug which Crowley timidly joined by patting Kit’s shoulder. Behind them a bell rang, and it was ever the horrid reminder that Kit wasn’t the princess of a fairy tale but a servant in an old home and like that it was back to their regularly scheduled program.
                                                                              ~*~
The next day Hades and Aziraphale were in the garden practicing their fencing, Felicity sat at the window of her room listening to Lady Adhira ramble on about how she had to properly learn tea ceremonies and such for any visiting dignitaries in the future, the way her father talked enthusiastically even if she couldn’t hear him she knew he was talking about Kit.
For the past day or so, Kit had been all her father had talked about and as young as she was Felicity knew that her father deserved a fairy tale ending and that this usually meant that Kit was his or at least should have had a chance to prove he was his.
But Felicity didn’t know how to do that, she suspected that Kit didn’t know that they were royals, there had been no bowing or special treatment the other day which she liked someone needed to treat them normally if they wanted to have a chance with her papa.
Adhira quickly realized the little princess wasn’t listening and let out an irritated sigh
“Perhaps we should invite some of your friends over to practice with?” Adhira suggested hoping it would interest the girl, Felicity perked up hearing that and hatching an instant plan
“Friends? So…I could invite anyone I want?” Felicity asked Adhira seemed to enjoy and potentially misinterpret Felicity’s enthusiasm thinking that she was actually interested in teatime.
“Oh o-of course princess!” Adhira said and instantly Felicity jumped up and hurried to her desk beginning to scribble out an invitation, only one which Adhira thought strange but she left the girl to do as she pleased, probably a mistake as the little princess began to scheme.
Meanwhile Outside her father and his brother sparred with rapiers clanging together and the metallic sounds filling the garden loudly as they swiped at each other “He was wonderful Aziraphale, he told the most wonderful stories and had Felicity wrapped around his finger.” Hades told him making a jab which the other one blocked quickly jumping away from him and giving a small eye roll, hades caught it and frowned moving out of his stance and lowering his practice blade
“What?” he asked but Aziraphale just smiled at him
“You remember when I got drunk at our birthday and I kissed that gardener?” Aziraphale asked him Hades nodded “And how much crap you gave me in the week after when I couldn’t shut up about how I wished I’d gotten his name and was able to continue seeing him after even if it would have caused some kind of scandal?”
Again hades nodded and Aziraphale grinned a bit and shook his head at him “You teased me relentlessly about not shutting up and I now know what you felt like because you’re so smitten with this guy that you’ve hardly met you haven’t shut up about him in the past twenty four hours.” Aziraphale told him he was completely caught off guard when a moment later a sword came thrusting towards his face and suddenly a foot behind his leg toppled him and Hades now had his practice sword pointed in Aziraphale’s face and he couldn’t stop himself from grinning
“Sore spot?” Aziraphale asked Hades chuckled
“No, my brother, you’re simply soft.” Hades said putting the blade down and pulling Aziraphale to his feet before he started to walk away Aziraphale could tell he may have over stepped but if someone else didn’t acknowledge how Hades was feeling, Aziraphale knew that hades himself would never acknowledge it either. His brother had become so closed off to the idea of dating or courtship or whatever you wanted to call it that Aziraphale knew that he’d never think about his feelings unless someone else brought them up first.
Aziraphale stayed in the garden after that sitting on the edge of one of the flower beds and running his fingers gently over the petals of a beautiful red rose and thinking back to his own night, what he could remember of it anyway. The beautiful gardener with his long red hair and his golden eyes, how Aziraphale had begged him to stay and work at the palace but it would cause to much of a scandal and how he needed to protect someone, Aziraphale vaguely remembered a passionate kiss and a promise to return some day. The problem was remembering a face to go with such lovely features and such a kind heart.
Aziraphale then noticed Felicity coming out from the kitchen doors like she did when wanting to avoid Adhira and frowned as he saw the little one approach the stables
“What are you doing?” Aziraphale asked but the little girl had a gleam of mischief in her eyes which never really meant anything good as she just waved and kept going for the stables
“I’m going to practice my riding,” She said Aziraphale frowned and began to follow her after the incident the other day he wouldn’t have expected any different. But with the look on her face that reminded him exactly of his late sister in law he knew it couldn’t be anything good that the little one had in mind.
Aziraphale followed her down the riding path, and then onto the path that lead outside the grounds…. followed by an old dirt road leading out of town that was until they came to a house deep in the woods not long after. It was a magnificent house, beautiful even or at least it probably had been. Age had worn the outside but the garden, the garden was spectacular! Roses redder than any he’d ever seen. Aziraphale knew instantly this had to be the house of Hades crush, oh that clever little girl. Aziraphale rode to catch up with her and when he got beside her she went a little pale but he smiled down at her and her little pony (the one she wasn’t supposed to take off grounds but did anyway) her mischievous smile vanished and was replaced with one of guilt and worry as she looked down at the ground and began stroking her pony lovingly, Aziraphale waited for her to speak first since there was obviously a lot on her mind and he trusted her to tell him the truth. When she looked back up to him fearful and with teary eyes, he knew that he was right.
“Am I in trouble?” Felicity asked him Aziraphale shook his head
“You know your father likes this man yes?” Aziraphale asked and Felicity nodded wiping her eyes on her sleeve until Aziraphale offered her a hanky and she took it dabbing at her eyes and he offered her a soft smile
“Good. Then what’s the plan?”
Felicity was startled and confused for a moment before she broke out in a grin and told him, the two then went to the house and Aziraphale rang the doorbell and waited.
There was a long pause and at first Aziraphale wondered if no one was home, he rang the bell again and still nothing. Just before Aziraphale could make the suggestion to come back another day there was the sound of shouting incomprehensibly and stomping footsteps coming to the door which made Aziraphale worry that perhaps that Hades might have exaggerated until the door answered and a large, well fit fellow with dark hair and a sour face answered and leaned across the entire doorframe not actually looking at them but rather his own reflection in a small hand mirror
“Yes, yes what do you want?” he asked exaggerated like this was such an inconvenience Aziraphale glanced down at Felicity who pouted a little she obviously didn’t like his attitude either
“you’re not kit.” She said simply this had Aziraphale having a wave of relief wash over him because honestly as pretty as this man seemed he had a dark aura that surrounded him that Aziraphale didn’t like. The stranger looked up only at Felicity and got a sour look on his face which Felicity mimicked back at him
“No I’m not,” He said with a scoff as if this was the biggest insult he’d ever heard Aziraphale took Felicity by the shoulders and pulled her back closer to him protectively and this is what finally got the man to look up at him and his expression change drastically as he realized exactly who he was dealing with.
Aziraphale gave a forced smile
“We’d like to have a word with Kit Marlowe if that’s at all possible sir.” Aziraphale requested it was then a second older man pushed his way into the doorway and Aziraphale recognized him from a few gatherings of the local lords, he had been lady Marlowe’s second husband before her passing if he remembered correctly
“Your highness! Please excuse my son he sort of woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” The man (Gabriel if he recalled?) greeted him with a bow pushing his son into the same position and while he was much more pleasant Aziraphale saw the pout on Felicity’s face deepen further
“You’re not kit either” she said this seemed to be like a momentary slap in the face to the violet eyed lord, but he recovered with a forced smile as he knelt down to her height
“No, my dear princess I’m afraid not, Kit is out at the moment running some errands for the household. Could I perhaps help you with something?” he asked Aziraphale noted how strained it seemed to speak even decently about Kit and didn’t like the vibes he was getting or the auras he was sensing and frowned
“Yes, the princess met him just the other day, he saved her when her horse was frightened and as a thank you, she wished to invite him to afternoon tea with me and my brother.” Aziraphale said he offered the invitation and Gabriel snatched it looking over the invitation so formal with a shiny seal but still the scratched cursive writing of a young child still learning what she was doing. Aziraphale didn’t like the look in his eyes and kept Felicity close to him something about this man wasn’t right and Aziraphale wasn’t sure that perhaps much better could come from this place, that was until he heard a familiar voice casually from the other side of the door that left his own heart skipping a beat.
The familiar ginger hair and dark glasses as the tall lean figure appeared and started up the stairs with a woman close behind him
“Honestly Honey, can you believe that idiot not getting a name?” he asked with a sigh Aziraphale felt like he had seen an angel for the second time as he recognized his birthday romance perhaps there was something good about this house.
Fortunately, in his paralyzed state Felicity saw him and took over also recognizing the man and having similar bad vibes about Gabriel.
Felicity snatched the invitation from the violet eyed man and ducked between them “HEY!” she called catching the attention of the two servants, Crowley recognized her and grinned like the cat that caught the canary “We were just talking about you and your dad,” Crowley said Felicity handed him the invitation “That’s for Kit, Uncle Zira and I are inviting you and him to tea tomorrow can you make it?” Felicity asked Crowley quirked a brow and looked up his own shock taking over as the familiar prince that had snogged him to death one night last year came to view, Crowley was stunned as Aziraphale gave a nervous smile and waved Crowley took a moment to remember he was being addressed and something clicked as he looked down at Felicity,
“You’re- “
“Princess you shouldn’t worry yourself with talking with common servants,” Drake said cutting in and stepping between them, he reached for the invitation which Crowley moved out of his reach and glared at him Felicity did as well
“Uncle Zira knows him and wants him to come with Kit to tea right uncle Zira?” Felicity asked as she looked. Aziraphale seemed to sober and his face burned a bright red as he gave a soft smile
“Yes, yes of course.” Aziraphale said his smile becoming as warm as the radiant sun that seemed to beam off of the prince “I think we have a lot of catching up to do if you’d like?” Aziraphale asked Crowley could only give a nervous smile and nod Felicity smiled and walked back to Aziraphale and took his hand before she looked back at Crowley
“You and Kit, tomorrow at two okays?” She asked before she took Aziraphale and began walking away.
The moment that door shut, Gabriel glared at Crowley
“How dare you accept an invitation in my home.” Gabriel growled Crowley snapped out of his love sick trance and glared at him putting the invitation in his breast pocket before Drake could make another snag for it. “I live here as well, the princess said it was for him and me why wouldn’t I accept it? Do you know how rude it is to decline an invitation from a princess?” Crowley asked him Drake grabbed him and slammed him into the wall his temper going from one to a one hundred in a second until Honey shoved between them and leveled him with a glare
“What’s going on?” Kit asked as he entered next with Vlad, Kit instantly felt the heat and hatred from his stepfather and step brother the second he made his way around the corner and Kit had to wonder what he did wrong
“Did you know your prince charming is an actual prince?” Crowley asked him to straighten his waist coat and never taking his eyes off of Drake Kit was surprised and raised a brow Gabriel offered him a smile that looked like it was painted on some doll, forced and fake. He put his arm around Kit and steered him back towards the other room and Kit resisted a shiver that was threatening to go down his spine
“Lets have a chat shall we my boy?”

I’ve been promising for ages now that I’d make a post about the hoofcare changes we’ve made to our program in 2017, and now that the days are getting shorter I’ve had a bit more downtime to actually do it!  So here goes - it is long and I struggled with how to organize it, hopefully those of you who were interested don’t mind wading through all of this information :P
Over the past year I have transitioned every horse in my care out of metal shoes.  This was a decision that we made based on research demonstrating that the conclusiveness of metal shoes is harmful to equine joints in the longterm.
Since making the switch, I have noticed a drastic positive change in my horses.  Some of the back tightness and stiffness in some of the horses, which I had long accommodated to saddle fit issues and had been working with a saddle fitter to fix, suddenly cleared up - every single horse’s back improved this year, with softer and better developed muscles - the good ones got better, and the ones with some issues got significantly better.  I believe that chiropractic/bodywork care is not an “extra” cost but a necessary part of maintaining equine athletes, as this is the only domesticated animal that we SIT ON and expect to perform, so I continue to have my vet check my horses regularly and work with me to determine each horse’s training program.  However, since making the switch out of metal shoes, my vet hasn’t had as much to adjust when he checks the horses.  This is the most marked change, and it’s not one that I expected.  It’s been dramatic enough that I am completely sold on going metal-free.
Another change that I have noticed is improved balance and posture (this, of course, ties into the back softness) in a way that has improved clarity of gait.  There is often this idea that horses which are pacey will be better with longer hooves and heavier shoes - this belief is the reason why we have so many shoeing regulations in our sport, to prevent people from cheating or compromising equine welfare to achieve higher scores.  However, paceyness and trottiness are both body issues - exaggerating hoof angles or shoe weight does not fix the root of the problem.  Fixing the balance of the hoof, rolling back the toe, and making the horse more comfortable through their backs and muscles has trickled down into the gaits - now, on shorter toes and composite shoes or hoof boots (which are LIGHTER than the metal shoes that most of us use in this sport), horses that had a tendency towards paceyness and trottiness have become much more supple and balanced.  Now, of course, this is along with a careful foundational dressage program and fitness program, so I’m not saying that you can throw composite shoes on your horse and all of his training issues and chronic back issues will magically be fixed - but for a horses already in a solid, compassionate program, this change has given them a serious boost.
Finally, I’ve noticed that the horses seem a little more confident and cheerful working out of metal shoes, although they were already confident and cheerful - again, it’s like the change has given them a boost.  They’ve got more cushion when their hoof hits the ground, and it’s something they reacted to immediately in a positive way.  The first time I rode each horse in the composite shoes or hoof boots, I was amazed by how different the horses felt - in a good way!  It’s a bit like riding on air, and it’s a more secure feeling because the hooves don’t slide when they hit the ground.
So, now that I’ve opened with the benefits I’ve seen in my horses since making this change, I’ll get into the details of what I’m using, why I’m using it, etc.
First, some background information:
Last year, myself, Amy Goddard, and Kathy Sierra submitted a proposal to the USIHC Board (before I was elected to the BOD) requesting that composite shoes and hoof boots be allowed in sport competition.  We made this proposal in response to new (and even some older) research that demonstrates that non-metal hoof protection reduced concussion on our horses’ joints, and improves their chances at soundness and good longevity.  I had kept my horses in metal shoes for many years and had not suffered serious ill effects from it as some have (no early onset arthritis, tendon issues, hoof ailments, etc.), I think because of my focus on conditioning and strong foundational dressage work - however, I made a promise to myself and my horses that I will always be open-minded to new findings, and that I will change my ways when I see that something else may be better for my animals’ welfare.  The proposal was sent on to FEIF, the international governing body for Icelandic sport, where it was approved on an experimental period for the 2017 show season.  Almost immediately, I sought out to find a farrier that could help me transition my horses over to nonmetal hoof protection.
My search led me to Common Ground Hoofcare.  Annie and Jeremiah are EXTREMELY qualified professionals who are 100% focused on equine welfare.  They’ve dedicated themselves to a never-ending quest to further their knowledge and improve their craft, and as a result they are very open-minded and educated.  Their approach produces sound, comfortable athletes and their methods are backed up by the best and most current research we have available.  As new information becomes available, they adapt their practices to include it.  These are the kind of equestrian professionals that I like to work with.
Best of all, THEY TRAVEL!  They can probably come to you!  They travel around the Midwest, Kentucky, etc. to offer their services and are willing to expand their territory, although they prefer to stick mainly to the East Coast.  They’re also able to recommend other trimmers and farriers that they respect, if they can’t cover your area.  I repeat, THEY CAN COME TO YOU, OR HELP YOU FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN.
The shoes approved by FEIF included the Duplo composite shoe, and the Easyboot glove and Easyboot Epic.  I chose to shoe my competition horses (and one of my boarders also chose to shoe her horse) in Duplos, straight-nailed on as opposed to glue although glueing them on is also an option (nails were my personal choice in this case).  For my other horses - our lesson horses and horses in training - we decided to leave the horses barefoot and work them in the Easyboot Epics.  Since then, I have experimented with glueing on the Duplos, and with Epona Shoes.  Below I’ll write about my experiences with composite shoes and hoof boots, broken down into the questions that people have most frequently been asking me:
Duplo Composite Shoes
The Duplo shoes are a composite shoe, made of a kind of bouncy, plastic-y material with a metal core.  As I said above, they can be glued or straight-nailed on, or a combination of glue and nails.  They come in a variety that has side-clips, and a variety that does not.  We have been using the variety that does not have side clips.
The Duplo shoes have been absolutely fantastic for the kind of riding I do with my Icelandic competition horses.  I cross-train with distance riding, and my competition horses do a 15 mile ride once per week mainly on tough, hilly, hard-packed dirt roads.  Additionally, we usually do 1-2 days per week of dressage work in the arena, one day of work per week without a rider (longeing/in-hand or ponying on the roads and trails), but the bulk of our training is conducted on the dirt roads.  I put serious miles on my horses, but take the time to condition them carefully and work them correctly using a strong foundation of classical dressage.  The Duplo shoes have been an improvement over metal shoes in every single way, for every facet of what I do with my horses.  Below are some of the things I have been asked about:
Resets - How do they hold up when you’re riding at speed on those abrasive roads the way we Icelandic riders so often like to do?  I’ll put it this way - I think I can count on one hand the amount of time my Vigri and I have gotten a reset out of a pair of metal shoes.  We ride a LOT and usually our metal shoes are useless after one 4-5 week cycle.  We have been getting at least one and sometimes TWO resets out of the Duplos.  TWO!  Because they don’t slide when they make contact with the ground the way metal shoes do, they hold up unbelievably well, even with very tough riding.
Are they slippery on grass?  NO!  Much less slippery than metal shoes!  Vigri and Spönn were both shod in Duplos when they won blue ribbons at a hunter pace this summer at GMHA, and that hunter pace was mostly on grass footing. If anything, they’re grippier than metal shoes!
Gaits - Do the Duplo shoes negatively impact the gaits (tölt and pace)?  Not for me - however because I am focused on postural rehabilitation and dressage, I do not use hoof length or shoeing tricks to enhance or patch up holes in my horse’s gaits.  So I was not concerned that the shoes would mess up their gaits.  With good dressage and a proper trim, this shouldn’t be an issue at all, regardless of whether horses are barefoot, in hoof boots, shod in composites, or shod in metal.  Gaits should come from the body, not the feet.  See above, photos of Spönn pacing in her Duplos and Vigri competing in his.
Heelboots - can they be used with these shoes?  Yes they can!  There is a part of the shoe that covers the frog, however because the shoe is flexible it is easy to get the little triangle of the heelboot into that space if you want to use heelboots for protection.
Trim cycles - is there any difference with the Duplos?  Yes, in that the Duplo shoe is going to maintain its shape and not warp with the hoof the way a metal shoe will, this does mean that horses ought to be kept to a 4 week cycle.  Which is really the ideal schedule for a shod horse anyway - going longer results in excessive hoof length that can put strain on the tendons, ligaments, and joints.
Can they be studded for winter use?  YES, and Duplo even makes a studded variety!  I can’t wait to try them out this winter!!
What about Epona shoes?  I like Epona shoes fine, but not for a humid climate.  The Duplos have these bumpy, grippy patches that keep them from sliding around on the hoof.  I have tried Epona shoes on a horse here and because of the way the hoof was expanding and contracting in the humidity, and the slippery material of the shoe, the shoe ended up moving around too much and breaking up the nail holes.  I also did find the Epona shoes to be slippery on grass and on the dirt roads.  In my opinion based on my experience, the Duplo is the better choice for our climate here in the Northeast and for our terrain in the mountains of Vermont, and for the level/amount of riding I do.
Benefits - have you noticed any benefits in the 6+ months you have been using these shoes?  YES, I absolutely have.  I have been able to cut my chiropractic/bodywork bills for my horses in half.  Their muscles, backs, and joints are just happier!  I’m getting better relaxation and freedom in my horse’s movements.  At the recent competition in Kentucky (where I did have to reshoe my horses in metal just before the show because FEIF’s experimental allowance period ended in September), Dr. Gloria Verrecchio said that my Vigri was in the best shape she’d ever felt him in.  She has been giving him bodywork tuneups after the long trailer ride to Kentucky for three years now, and this year he was much softer and better developed - I attribute some of that to the Duplo shoes, as they’ve reduced concussion and stress on his joints and allowed him to relax and develop his muscles better.  I’m getting improved movement from all of my horses, who seem more comfortable and more willing to offer me a little something extra.  Spönn paces better in her Duplos than she does in metal shoes.  Overall I am highly impressed with the Duplo shoes, and the way they make my horses feel.  I hope that they get approved longterm by FEIF so that I never have to compete in metal again!
EasyBoot Epics
I resisted hoof boots for a long time because I thought they looked clunky, I worried they would fall off or mess up my horse’s gaits, etc.  The EasyBoot Epics have dispelled all of my concerns.  They are fabulous.  They are essentially the same thing as the EasyBoot Glove, except that they use a cable to close whereas on the Glove, you hammer them on or sometimes people even glue them on.  I like the EasyBoot Epics because they allow my horses to live barefoot when they aren’t working, which is the healthiest thing for a horse with healthy hooves.  Living bare allows the hoof to expand and contract as it should, and allows us to keep the horse in a very balanced trim without having to attach something to the bottom of the hoof.  The Epics fit snuggly - before I ride I clean out my horse’s hooves, and slip the Epics over their hooves.  Sometimes, they do need a knock with a mallet because you do want them to fit snuggly.  Then you just velcro the gator and snap down the cable, and you’re good to go.  Here are some of the questions I’ve received about the Easyboot Epics:
Do they change the horse’s gaits/way of going?  This was my biggest concern.  And the answer is yes - in every single one of my horses, they have improved their gaits.  I think this is because they make the horse more comfortable and confident than they are in metal shoes.  Horses with a tendency to get a bit pacey or trotty both began to offer clearer tölt.  Again with these boots, the horse’s just aren’t needing the chiropractic or bodywork they once needed.
Can you use them only in front?  Yes you can, but that may change the balance of your horse, because then their front feet will weigh more.  For Icelandic competition, you must have them on both the fronts and backs if you are using them.
Do they stay on?  If they fit, yes - but there is a small catch.  Your horse’s boot size may change throughout a trim cycle!  That took me a little while to figure out.  Particularly on the front hooves, after a fresh trim my horses are often a size smaller than they are towards the end of the cycle.  So if your horse measures a 0 after a trim, you might want to buy a set of 1s as well to use towards the end of the cycle.  I have had boots come off when they were fitted to my horses at the end of a cycle, and I put them on after a fresh trim.  Also, if the boots get very wet, they’re more likely to come off when you’re going fast in canter or fast tempo tölt or pace, if they are even a little bit too big.  But as long as they are the correct size, you will not have problems.
How long do they last?  My farriers told me that if I’m riding regularly, to expect about 3 months from each boot.  So far that has been pretty spot on, except for horses in lighter training.  Eventually, just like shoes, they do wear out.
Does the gator rub the pasterns?  Not on any one of my horses and we have done a fair amount of distance riding using these, through water crossings and mud etc. with no issues.
Are they hard to put on?  They can be hard to put on in the beginning when they are brand new.  But they quickly get easier to put on.  There is also a learning curve, in the beginning its a bit awkward, but now I can put them on all of my horses very quickly, in about 2 minutes to get them on all 4 hooves.
Do the horses like them?  They seem to.  We only had one horse walk a bit funny when they were first put on, but she quickly adjusted.  None of the horses have acted displeased with the boots and all have improved in them so I would say that the horses do like them.
If anyone has any further questions about my experiences with composite shoes or hoof boots in this past year, feel free to ask!  It is my hope that these shoes will get approved by FEIF to be permanently included as acceptable shoeing for Icelandic sport, but even if they don’t get approved, I can say without a doubt that my horses will be wearing composites or hoof boots from now on.  If I must put metal on them for shows, I will do what I did for the KY show and shoe them in metal just before the show and pull shoes immediately after, but I hope that FEIF will see that there is no reason to ban composite shoes and hoof boots from competition, and that allowing them is a great step for equine welfare.
EDIT, November 18, 2017:
We have now studded both the Easyboot Epics and the Duplo shoes for winter use, and I have ridden in both in all gaits including canter on the icy roads and in the snowy ring.  I am very pleased with how both are working, although I am finding the Duplos slightly more stable.  I would say based on my observations so far that having the Easyboot Epics fit PERFECTLY becomes especially important when using them in winter like this, because as the boot bites into the ground, if its moving around at all on the hoof that will surely be an issue.  Ours are fitted well and have been working out nicely.  Below are two photos of a studded Duplo shoe (attached to the hoof with both glue and nails - fewer nails than would be used without glue), and one photo of a studded Easyboot Epic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am thrilled that I will be able to use these all winter long!!

DealBook: Money, Morality and a Challenge to Silicon Valley
Tumblr media
Good morning. On our radar: L Brands is said to be close to a deal to sell control of Victoria’s Secret to the investment firm Sycamore Partners. (Was this email forwarded to you? Sign up here.)
‘Where is my money coming from?’
Silicon Valley is abuzz over a series of tweets from Chamath Palihapitiya, the venture capitalist and provocateur, suggesting that investment firms and start-ups should look more closely at who’s giving them money.• Referring to investment firms’ limited partners, or investors, he tweeted: “What if the LPs money was stolen by an autocratic leader? What if their family made guns or alcohol or tobacco? What if they believe in Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice or No-Guns vs Ok-Guns?”• “The best GPs should know that they can pick their Capital partner and I would encourage them to ask tougher questions of their LPs.”• “Why make the Harvard endowment any more money? What systemic bias do you perpetuate?”Mr. Palihapitiya’s tweets were inspired by a WSJ investigation into how the Mormon Church secretly built a $100 billion investment portfolio. (He added on Twitter that he has “ZERO” issues with the church.)Andrew’s take:• This conversation started over a year ago around Saudi Arabia’s investments in Uber and SoftBank’s Vision Fund, after the dissident writer Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in a Saudi consulate.• But the decibel level is getting louder, and such questions may become a larger part of big investors’ decisions.A programming note: Marcelo Claure, SoftBank’s C.O.O. and WeWork’s chairman, will talk with Andrew on “Squawk Box” at 8 a.m. It will be Mr. Claure’s first interview since WeWork named a new C.E.O. — and comes amid reports of trouble for SoftBank’s next Vision Fund.____________________________Today’s DealBook Briefing was written by Andrew Ross Sorkin in New York and Michael J. de la Merced in London.____________________________
Globalization, not streaming, won the Oscars
Netflix might have hoped that this year’s Academy Awards would be its breakthrough. It came away disappointed.• Netflix was up for 24 awards last night, but won two: best supporting actress for Laura Dern in “Marriage Story” and best documentary for “American Factory.”• And it had spent an estimated $70 million selling Oscar voters on its nominees, which included “Marriage Story” and “The Irishman.”• The big winner instead was the South Korean satire “Parasite,” which became the first non-English-language movie to win best picture.Victory for “Parasite” was “a defining moment,” writes Kelly Gilblom of Bloomberg, “in the globalization of Hollywood, which had previously favored homegrown films over foreign-language fare.”But don’t feel too bad for Netflix. As Ryan Faughnder of the LA Times notes, the streaming giant plans to spend $17.3 billion on content this year. And all those nominations had already burnished its street cred. So what’s an extra $70 million?More: Jeff Bezos came in for some ribbing by Chris Rock: “Jeff is so rich, he got divorced and he’s still the richest man in the world. He saw ‘Marriage Story’ and thought it was a comedy.”
Looks like the White House isn’t buying Bill Barr’s Huawei plan
The attorney general made waves last week when he suggested that the U.S. back takeovers of Nokia or Ericsson, Huawei of China’s European rivals on 5G networking — or buy them outright. But his colleagues in the Trump administration don’t seem keen.• Larry Kudlow, the president’s chief economic adviser, said the U.S. “is not in the business of buying companies, whether they’re domestic or foreign,” according to David Shepardson of Reuters, though he added there was “nothing to prohibit” American tech companies from making the move.• And Vice President Mike Pence said the administration would follow a plan laid out by the Federal Communications Commission’s chairman to free up more 5G spectrum. Those comments probably dampened investors’ hopes for a takeover or two. Shares in both Nokia and Ericsson jumped on Friday — but were down in trading this morning.
Goldman’s goal of being the next Blackstone takes a hit
Goldman Sachs has made it very clear that it wants to be known for more than investment banking and trading. But some impending departures may set back its private equity ambitions.• Sumit Rajpal and Andrew Wolff, two of the three heads of a big private investing unit, are retiring, Dakin Campbell of Business Insider reports. The division will now be run by the remaining head, Julian Salisbury.• Mr. Rajpal and Mr. Wolff were expected to lead Goldman’s latest private equity fund, which was scheduled to begin formal fund-raising this week with a target of $8 billion.Goldman’s C.E.O., David Solomon, was warned this might happen when he decided to combine several investment teams into one division, Mr. Campbell reports.• Rich Friedman, the chairman of the private-investing unit, had “resisted the plan from the start.”Why it matters: Goldman has hoped to raise $100 billion more in private equity assets over the next five years, Liz Hoffman of the WSJ points out, challenging the likes of Blackstone and KKR. Infighting probably won’t help.
The news Silicon Valley will pay for
The Information, which Jessica Lessin founded in 2013 to dive deep into tech news, costs $399 a year. But the tech elite doesn’t seem to mind ponying up, another sign that subscriptions can sustain a healthy news outlet, Ed Lee of the NYT writes.• “She pays competitive salaries (albeit without equity) — as much as $180,000 or more for some top reporters,” Mr. Lee writes.• The site has regularly broken big stories, like sexual harassment allegations against a venture capital mogul and management problems at Google’s Nest division.• Subscribers include James Murdoch and Laurene Powell Jobs. What Ms. Lessin doesn’t do is take advertising or venture capital, though she started The Information with “less than $1 million” of her share of her family’s fortune. (She and her husband, Sam Lessin, are the children of wealthy investors.)But she still has hurdles to clear. She might have to hit 40,000 paying readers by this year to meet sales objectives — when she only passed 20,000 around the middle of last year, Mr. Lee reports.
That time when Gates beat Nadal
Of course, it didn’t hurt Bill Gates to have Roger Federer as his doubles partner. And the match was for charity. That said, Mr. Gates “played one pinpoint lob volley that the announcer described as ‘the billionaire’s touch,’” according to the AP.
The speed read
Deals• Alibaba and other Chinese investors are pulling back from Silicon Valley. (FT)• Henry Ellenbogen, the former star start-up investor at T. Rowe Price, has raised about $6 billion for his new investment fund. (FT)Politics and policy• President Trump is set to unveil his budget proposal today, which cuts $4.4 trillion in spending, but keeps a federal deficit until 2035. (NYT)• The economy is exactly where Mr. Trump wants it. (Upshot)• Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to the economist “Milton Keynes” over the weekend, merging two wildly different men into one English town. (Daily Mail)Tech• Ransomware attacks are increasingly crippling cities and businesses. (NYT)• A deep dive into QAnon, the pro-Trump conspiracy theory, and its consequences. (NYT)• Employees at SoftBank’s Vision Fund reportedly often feel pressure to do deals, even ones they think ill-advised. (Information)Best of the rest• Real estate industry groups are challenging New York’s ban on rental broker fees. (NYT)• Doug Hodge, the former Pimco C.E.O. given nine months in prison for his part in the college admissions scandal, writes, “I should have listened to my conscience.” (WSJ Opinion)• The first speaking engagement for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, since stepping back from British royal family duties? A JPMorgan Chase investment conference in Miami. (Page Six)Thanks for reading! We’ll see you tomorrow. We’d love your feedback. Please email thoughts and suggestions to [email protected]. RFA + Daddy!Jumin
Now that I have your attention, I literally mean Daddy, as in he’s fathered a child. In honor of Father’s Day where I am, I thought I’d like to continue to daydream about how my favorite Mystic Messenger character would be as a Daddy along with the various reactions & roles the other RFA members fall into for Baby!Han.
Part one is only about Jumin & some headcanons I have about his interactions & tendencies -  Daddy!Jumin Part 1
Meowle Masterpost
Meowle MysMe Headcanons
Jumin
Aside from wishing that they’re born healthy, he doesn’t care what their sex is but he finds himself silently hoping they will be born with your eyes, the eyes that captivated him at first sight.
First time he holds his baby he has a big teary-eyed grin on his face & whispers, “I’m very happy to finally meet you. *holds little baby hand & shakes it gently* I’m your father, Jumin Han.” (Formal introductions are important.)
Takes months off for paternity leave to be with you & Baby!Han.
At the beginning, Jumin is very nervous & hesitant about who he allows around his children, especially when they’re a newborn. He hardly trusts himself at first & insists that you’re there to make sure nothing goes wrong.
For the first few days, he has to be sitting if he’s holding the baby. What if he trips while walking & holding his baby & crushes them?!
Has watched tutorials on how to change diapers. It does not properly prepare him for what he encounters. You hear noises & words from him you’d never heard before.
During a morning feed one early early morning he sat in a plush chair, bottle feeding a baby with one hand & nursing a cup of black coffee occasionally with the other. He took a glance at the bottle he was holding & curiosity got the better of him so he quickly squirt a small portion of your breast milk from the bottle into his mug - if it was good enough for his child, it was good enough for him, yes? He shrugged at the taste.
Before he ever passes his child to be held by someone he brushes off said persons’ hands with his kerchief & spritzes them with an antibacterial. Have they been sick recently? Are they up to date on their vaccinations? Have they been out of the country in the last 3 months? Have they gotten a tattoo within the last 2 weeks? (“Jumin, is that necessary?” “Possible infections are not to be taken lightly.”)
In the days before the first baby is born, he has a sit down with Elizabeth 3rd to explain to her the changes that will happen around their penthouse, but assure her he won’t care for her any less. After all, it wouldn’t do for his feline companion to grow jealous & possibly act out or run away again.
Once while feeding his first baby, he tasted a sampling of the baby food & grimaced at the flavor of a lot of the options. Soon after hired a chef to create homemade, nutritious, & tasty baby foods. Ensured that his chef worked closely with the hired pediatrician to make sure proper nutrition was being met.
After his child is born, he wishes that he slept in his ‘youth’ when he first met you (”Jumin, you’re in your 20s...”) because now it feels like he’ll never be able to sleep ever again.
Could easily watch his children sleep for hours & never be bored.
Praises Elizabeth 3rd excessively for developing a bond with his children & being a ‘guard cat’. She’s so smart.
He’s accepted that the members of the RFA are his family. As such, he expects them all to be involved in his child(ren)’s life. Family is very important & his child(ren) are going to be raised knowing that they have the best support & love system anyone could ask for.
Saeyoung
It’s his most top secret mission yet - Uncle Agent 707!
He’s not surprised when you & Jumin announce that you’re expecting. If anything, he’s surprised it took this long actually. He’s happy for you both & is already planning playdates & new toys he can create when Baby!Han is a little older.
When the child(ren) get older, he sneaks junk food to them. They’re familiar enough with commoner food because of you but junk food is hard to come back in the Han household. One more than one occasion his pants making a crinkling noise when he walks into the penthouse. He thinks Jumin doesn’t know he’s smuggling Honey Buddha Chips in... but he does.
Jumin commissions him for the creation of toys - provided they’re interactive, educational, non-hazardous, & resilient. Jumin’s thoroughly pleased by his work & offers him a robotics/toy line within C&R.
Jumin hires Seven to set, program, & adjust any & all parental controls set by you on electronics the children use. Sometimes Jumin forgets he’s asked Seven to make laptops & electronics for his kids & is confused as to why a sudden animatronic voice is talking to him from across the room...
Seven likes bringing & reading new books (space, dinosaurs, robotics) to the growing child(ren). Even though the Han child(ren) are well off & will have access to doors closed to so many others, he still believes a solid knowledge will help them advance.
He’s not a formal tutor by any means, but he’s taken it upon himself to show & teach a variety of subjects (maths, code, sciences).
Invents a language which only he & the children know. Takes great pleasure in watching Jumin’s frustration when they (children & Seven) have full conversations using it around him.
Gushes about cats together often & their shared love of Elizabeth 3rd!
Yoosung
Achievement Unlocked! Uncle Yoosung has joined your party!
He’s a mixture of shocked, jealous, excited, & scared when you & Jumin share the news you’re going to have a baby.
Trims Elizabeth 3rd claws regularly to prevent any accidents when she’s around the baby.
Jumin quickly recognizes that Yoosung has nurturing tendencies. He doesn’t want strangers around his children more than family, so he’s comfortable with Yoosung taking on the roles of playmate & babysitter (After a thorough & detailed informal interview. “What was your last occupation” “I - I’m a student.” “And why have you left that position?” “I... haven’t?”). He trusts Yoosung to watch after his children when you & he are out. Yoosung is paid handsomely. He’s able to replace his ruined messenger bag. All the LOLOL rare items are more easily obtained.
He’s the best playmate children could ask for. For once, his competitiveness takes a backseat & he likes letting the children win while they’re amateurs. Once they’re older though & have honed their skills... game on.
Enjoys doing simple things when he babysits- reading, games, cooking together - he tries to keep them interacting often.
One of his favorite things is, in fact, cooking together. For once he’s the more knowledgeable one & has the chance to teach. He likes watching you & Jumin be the guinea pigs for their latest edible creations.
Organizes outings that he wants everyone (RFA) to take together as family events - aquarium, zoo, observatory, picnic in the park, water parks.
Zen
The world will be jealous that a child has the most beautiful man as their uncle!
His first reaction to the announcement of you being pregnant is shock & slight anger. (“I TOLD YOU TO NOT TOUCH HER, YOU JERK!” “Zen, but they’re married...” “STAY OUT OF THIS YOOSUNG!”)
He has a soft spot for kids, so he warms to the idea quickly. He’s confident he can fall into any role the child needs him to be - uncle, brother, friend, confidant, protector.
He does get a little choked up the first time he holds Baby!Han. Though he’s typically loathe to praise Jumin about anything, he does admit that this is probably the best thing Jumin has ever done.
Gives Jumin a thorough speech - “Listen here! You have to be there for your wife & child. You can’t be off in your office all the time burying yourself in work & ridiculous cat *achew!* projects. You have a family now & that comes with expectations & responsibilities. So... don’t screw it up!”
He doesn’t do much for the child when they’re a baby aside from telling them how pretty/beautiful/handsome they are constantly. He’s happy to hold them & coo over them, but once they look like they’re about to be sick he’s happily passing the baby back to Jumin with a grin.
Zen loves fantasy & acting, once the child is old enough to play dress-up & pretend, he’s in his zone. He can be & commits to his designated role. Do they need a dashing prince? A pony? A wicked (but angelically beautiful) wizard come to cast a curse? A knight?
He loves playing. It’s fun, dramatic, & relaxed. It’s a performance for one, but he finds he gets immense satisfaction from hearing little giggles & small fists clapping at his antics.
Once Jumin caught Zen playing with the child(ren) at a small children sized piano. Despite the piano being off-key & disturbingly high-pitched, the skill behind the melody was obvious. The next day Zen showed up for a casual visit, a brand new full-sized piano was set up in a sitting room. (“I’d like to hire you to give piano lessons.” “You bought a piano before you even ask- whoa... is that a Steinway?”) Zen’s agreed before he knows it.
Plans & coordinates little talent shows, plays, recitals for all the members of RFA to watch.
Jaehee
She’s excited to be called Auntie Jaehee instead of Assistant Kang for once.
Honestly, her role doesn’t change too much once Jumin has a child. She’s now tracking his developing ideas for baby/child themed products/advertising as well as his occasional cat themed ideas.
Jumin’s schedule begins to fill with appointments, recitals, parent/teacher conferences, etc. that she’s easily woven around his busy work schedule.
She has found that since Jumin’s had a child, he’s working less, staying home more, which gives her more time to focus on other things outside of work... like Zen’s new projects.
She’s an active vocal advocate of praise & encouragement for the Han child(ren). She knows what it’s like to feel like you’re working alone, against the odds, & to hear the whispers of discouragement from those around you - she goes out of her way to offer praises (even if small) to brighten the child(ren)’s day.
When the children visit the office, she has toys/treats/distractions stashed away in her desk for them to play with. Eventually a whole drawer is dedicated for just that purpose.
V
Uncle V!
He’s beyond thrilled to hear the news that you & Jumin are going to be parents. He’s extremely happy for his best friend & can’t help but tease Jumin often during your pregnancy about micromanaging every little aspect.
His photography decorates the nursery & child(ren)’s room as they grow older.
Has one of his more soothing photographs printed onto a baby blanket that’s gifted to you prior to delivery. It’s the blanket the baby comes home in.
Gifts a toy camera when the child is old enough to start playing with toys. He thinks he’s being clever.
Gifts the child’s first real camera and has the photographs taken made into a book. He finds it fascinating to see the perspective of a child - even if majority of the photos are blurry (“They really are Jumin’s child...”).
He’s holding a role akin to Godfather, of which he takes with the utmost seriousness.
Takes all the Han family portraits throughout the years.
He’s listened to Jumin’s fears about raising children, but he’s there to offer words of encouragement and assurances that you & Jumin will do a wonderful job raising kids together.
He spoils the child(ren). Presents & money every time he visits. Sends them postcards & letters from his travels.
Encourages any & all forms of the arts for personal expression. Drawing, painting, music, dancing, etc. He offers to be the one to buy necessary equipment and goods for their hobbies.
He’s there to capture each important event in the child’s life, memorializing it in a way to be shared for many years to come.
He’s excessively proud of how far Jumin has come & doesn’t hold back on his thoughts with regard to that.

Kris & Kylie Jenner show off their designer-done digs
Since it’s the weekend, the cat’s away and the mice (Yolanda) want to play. So how about something a wee bit offbeat? Don’t fret, our regularly scheduled programming will return shortly.
We know many of our snootier readers dislike the Kardashians and deride them as being famous (and famously rich) for absolutely nothing. “No talent!!!” they scream. But Yolanda finds these people oddly fascinating. Just how have they captivated the world for so many years? Folks have been predicting the demise of their “15 minutes” for well over a decade, yet here they are — still hogging space on every website from Time Magazine to TMZ. Come on — that alone is a talent! This family is here to stay.
At this point, the Kardashians are wealthier than 90% of “A-list” celebrities, and their famously brash spending — seems like they can never buy enough mansions, exotic cars and rapper/baller baby daddies — has recently kicked into ultra-high gear. The family now presides over a real estate empire worth well in excess of $100 million, according to Yolanda’s research.
Two of the clan’s biggest spenders — Kris Jenner and her 21-year-old near-billionaire daughter Kylie Jenner — have both purchased new homes out in Hidden Hills, deep in the belly of the San Fernando Valley, and the fine folks at Architecural Digest recently got a firsthand tour of the designer-redone digs.
So while Yolanda knows certain folks would rather push a camel through a needle’s eye than read about this family, Yolanda is gonna write about them. Let’s begin with Little Miss Kylie Jenner, shall we?
Back in fall 2016, a then-19-year-old Miss Jenner paid $12,050,000 for a new monster mansion.
We wrote about the 13,200-square-foot beast when she bought it and described the spec-built home as “very fancy but slightly banal” in style. “Couldn’t Miss Jenner go for something a bit sexier?” Yolanda wrote. And it’s true. The neutral interiors, while luxurious and wholly inoffensive, verged on the matronly.
Tumblr media
Back in the day (2016)
But that was then, and the house looks dramatically different now. To sex up the Cape Cod-style abode, Miss Jenner engaged the services of theatrical interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard and spent many months workin’ on a hideously expensive total redo of the place.
Well, the now-21-year-old lip kit queen’s castle is finally done, and it’s insane. The enormous structure is chock-full of name brand art and custom furniture — Yolanda can pretty much guarantee that Miss Jenner spent well into the seven figures on this job. Check out the full story on Architectural Digest .
Yowza! Even if this ain’t your style — and it certainly is not Yolanda’s style — it’s sure fun to look at. The place looks “perfect for Instagram,” as one of our friends told us. And really, ain’t that the whole point?
At least one of the home’s eight bedrooms was converted into a “glam room” and a purse closet to house Miss Jenner’s million-dollar handbag collection. And the art used as decor! Oh my. It’s all great stuff — Beau Dunn‘s condom art, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Basquiat (but does Kylie Jenner even know who Basquiat is? Apparently she does!)
Tumblr media
The million-dollar purse closet
We can pretty much guarantee you will never, ever see another 21-year-old with a home this ludicrous. But before we digress any further, let’s check out her mama’s new pad, which is similarly expensive but done up in a much different, more demure manner.
In late 2017, Kris Jenner ponied up nearly $10 million for a spec-built mansion elsewhere in Hidden Hills (it happens to be directly across the street from the much larger home of her daughter Kim Kardashian and son-in-law Kanye West).
Ms. Jenner still owns her old Hidden Hills house — the Mediterranean-style one made famous on Keeping Up With the Kardashians — though she only uses it for filming purposes these days. And maybe to house some of her assistants/glam squad, we dunno.
Anywho, Ms. Jenner is learning about art and architecture — for which we applaud her — and wanted a more sophisticated look in her new home. For that she hired the acclaimed Waldo Fernandez and Clements Design to imbue the property with a “calming” energy.
Yolanda confesses we absolutely love this place — we’d live there in a heartbeat, and the art, furniture and materials are all top-notch and very correct. The one (slight) criticism to be made is that everything feels a tad too impersonal. Kinda like a giant hotel suite. A beautiful five-star hotel suite, to be sure.
Watch the video and tell us if we’re wrong. Does anything in the house — other than her “proud of” sheep — have any real meaning to Ms. Jenner? It sure ain’t seem that way, but what do we know?
For more delicious pictures of the new Kris Jenner estate, check out the Architectural Digest story in full.
So there’s the properties. See y’all, that wasn’t so bad. But you haven’t heard the last from Kardashian real estate, not by a long shot. Within the past few months, Kris Jenner dropped another $12 million out in La Quinta’s exclusive Madison Club community, and Kylie Jenner just copped a $13.5 million “in-town” pad in the mountains above Beverly Hills. So we fully expect those places to be redone and eventually skip their way into a future Architectural Digest issue.
And just for kicks and giggles, check out Kourtney Kardashian’s Richard Landry-designed Calabasas mansion, also decorated by Martyn Lawrence Bullard — and also featured in Architectural Digest.
See kids, we’ve discovered the Kardashians’ talent — their knack for amassing and spending loads of money. Thankfully, they mostly invest in real estate, which helps keep Yolanda in the black.

DealBook: Money, Morality and a Challenge to Silicon Valley
Good morning. On our radar: L Brands is said to be close to a deal to sell control of Victoria’s Secret to the investment firm Sycamore Partners. (Was this email forwarded to you? Sign up here.)
‘Where is my money coming from?’
Silicon Valley is abuzz over a series of tweets from Chamath Palihapitiya, the venture capitalist and provocateur, suggesting that investment firms and start-ups should look more closely at who’s giving them money.
• Referring to investment firms’ limited partners, or investors, he tweeted: “What if the LPs money was stolen by an autocratic leader? What if their family made guns or alcohol or tobacco? What if they believe in Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice or No-Guns vs Ok-Guns?”
• “The best GPs should know that they can pick their Capital partner and I would encourage them to ask tougher questions of their LPs.”
• “Why make the Harvard endowment any more money? What systemic bias do you perpetuate?”
Mr. Palihapitiya’s tweets were inspired by a WSJ investigation into how the Mormon Church secretly built a $100 billion investment portfolio. (He added on Twitter that he has “ZERO” issues with the church.)
Andrew’s take:
• This conversation started over a year ago around Saudi Arabia’s investments in Uber and SoftBank’s Vision Fund, after the dissident writer Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in a Saudi consulate.
• But the decibel level is getting louder, and such questions may become a larger part of big investors’ decisions.
A programming note: Marcelo Claure, SoftBank’s C.O.O. and WeWork’s chairman, will talk with Andrew on “Squawk Box” at 8 a.m. It will be Mr. Claure’s first interview since WeWork named a new C.E.O. — and comes amid reports of trouble for SoftBank’s next Vision Fund.

Globalization, not streaming, won the Oscars
Netflix might have hoped that this year’s Academy Awards would be its breakthrough. It came away disappointed.
• Netflix was up for 24 awards last night, but won two: best supporting actress for Laura Dern in “Marriage Story” and best documentary for “American Factory.”
• And it had spent an estimated $70 million selling Oscar voters on its nominees, which included “Marriage Story” and “The Irishman.”
• The big winner instead was the South Korean satire “Parasite,” which became the first non-English-language movie to win best picture.
Victory for “Parasite” was “a defining moment,” writes Kelly Gilblom of Bloomberg, “in the globalization of Hollywood, which had previously favored homegrown films over foreign-language fare.”
But don’t feel too bad for Netflix. As Ryan Faughnder of the LA Times notes, the streaming giant plans to spend $17.3 billion on content this year. And all those nominations had already burnished its street cred. So what’s an extra $70 million?
More: Jeff Bezos came in for some ribbing by Chris Rock: “Jeff is so rich, he got divorced and he’s still the richest man in the world.
But his colleagues in the Trump administration don’t seem keen.
• Larry Kudlow, the president’s chief economic adviser, said the U.S. “is not in the business of buying companies, whether they’re domestic or foreign,” according to David Shepardson of Reuters, though he added there was “nothing to prohibit” American tech companies from making the move.
• And Vice President Mike Pence said the administration would follow a plan laid out by the Federal Communications Commission’s chairman to free up more 5G spectrum.
But some impending departures may set back its private equity ambitions.
• Sumit Rajpal and Andrew Wolff, two of the three heads of a big private investing unit, are retiring, Dakin Campbell of Business Insider reports. The division will now be run by the remaining head, Julian Salisbury.
• Mr. Rajpal and Mr. Wolff were expected to lead Goldman’s latest private equity fund, which was scheduled to begin formal fund-raising this week with a target of $8 billion.
Goldman’s C.E.O., David Solomon, was warned this might happen when he decided to combine several investment teams into one division, Mr. Campbell reports.
• Rich Friedman, the chairman of the private-investing unit, had “resisted the plan from the start.”
Why it matters: Goldman has hoped to raise $100 billion more in private equity assets over the next five years, Liz Hoffman of the WSJ points out, challenging the likes of Blackstone and KKR. Infighting probably won’t help.
The news Silicon Valley will pay for
The Information, which Jessica Lessin founded in 2013 to dive deep into tech news, costs $399 a year. But the tech elite doesn’t seem to mind ponying up, another sign that subscriptions can sustain a healthy news outlet, Ed Lee of the NYT writes.
• “She pays competitive salaries (albeit without equity) — as much as $180,000 or more for some top reporters,” Mr. Lee writes.
• The site has regularly broken big stories, like sexual harassment allegations against a venture capital mogul and management problems at Google’s Nest division.
• Subscribers include James Murdoch and Laurene Powell Jobs.
What Ms. Lessin doesn’t do is take advertising or venture capital, though she started The Information with “less than $1 million” of her share of her family’s fortune. (She and her husband, Sam Lessin, are the children of wealthy investors.)
But she still has hurdles to clear.
Deals
• Alibaba and other Chinese investors are pulling back from Silicon Valley. (FT)
• Henry Ellenbogen, the former star start-up investor at T. Rowe Price, has raised about $6 billion for his new investment fund. (FT)
Politics and policy
• President Trump is set to unveil his budget proposal today, which cuts $4.4 trillion in spending, but keeps a federal deficit until 2035. (NYT)
• The economy is exactly where Mr. Trump wants it. (Upshot)
• Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to the economist “Milton Keynes” over the weekend, merging two wildly different men into one English town. (Daily Mail)
Tech
• Ransomware attacks are increasingly crippling cities and businesses. (NYT)
• A deep dive into QAnon, the pro-Trump conspiracy theory, and its consequences. (NYT)
• Employees at SoftBank’s Vision Fund reportedly often feel pressure to do deals, even ones they think ill-advised. (Information)
Best of the rest
• Real estate industry groups are challenging New York’s ban on rental broker fees. (NYT)
• Doug Hodge, the former Pimco C.E.O. given nine months in prison for his part in the college admissions scandal, writes, “I should have listened to my conscience.” (WSJ Opinion)
• The first speaking engagement for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, since stepping back from British royal family duties? A JPMorgan Chase investment conference in Miami. (Page Six)
Thanks for reading! We’ll see you tomorrow.
We’d love your feedback. Please email thoughts and suggestions to [email protected].

Why is Auto Title Loans Better than Payday loans?
A Payday Loan amount typically ranges from $100 to $300 in California. It is a short-term Loan and has to be completely paid back in under 31 days. Payday Loans rely upon specific income for their repayments (such as your next paycheck or a pending tax refund). Moreover, an Auto Title Loans is designed to give much larger Loan amounts (thousands of dollars) and can possibly be paid back over a longer period of time (usually 12 to 36 months). In other words, a Payday Loan could be viewed as a temporary fix, whereas an Auto Title Loans is designed to fulfill your longer financial needs.

Hot Take Fight to the Death!! (lyrics)
Tumblr media
These are the words for the songs on my new album Hot Take Fight to the Death!! which is available now on iTunes, Spotify and... I don’t know, most of the other places. THANKS!
Regularly Scheduled Program
Where should we start? Where did we part?
Should I recap? Previously on your nap...
I’ve got your ears, melodious fears.
What is a song? How much can this go wrong?
I’m ready. Are you?
Seems we’ve got a lot of talking to do.
You ready? I am.
We now join our regularly scheduled program...
You like a beat. Brain and heart meet.
Wait, is that right? Guess who don’t care tonight.
I think about you, all the time I do.
But sometimes I doubt you’ll ever wanna come back out.
(repeat chorus)
Here’s some rhyming commentary on life from the monastery.
Is this a 2-way thing? Well just don’t tell me how I cannot sing.
(repeat chorus)
Respectable American
Taking the focus away from the focus
Keep your mouth shut in a swarm of locusts
All this toxic slime is wiping us out
I don’t hate you, I’ve just got a loose mouth
I hear a new lie and I start to plow south
I know you think this is good for us...
Anger is a sin, no anger is a friend
I’m trying to remember that I need to count to 10
I’m trying not to boil but I don’t always win
‘Cuz lately I can’t tell what’s a respectable American
1... 2... 1... 2...
I woke up in the morning and I got 8 hours
Then I hear the news and it all just sours
Even a good day has a little weight
Turning off the TV and turning off the beeping
Notify me when I can wake up from the dreaming
Feeling thankful everything will end
(repeat chorus)
Cussing in the kitchen from a magazine
Pleading with the ceiling to imagine a new me
(repeat chorus)
Cold in the Loony Bin
I don’t care about this one
I’m just trying to keep up
I’m on the fence again
Hoping to fall back in
Hoping the crash won’t be rough
Hitching your horse to a wall
Whining when it doesn’t come when you call
I’ve gotta find some way
To keep my mind today
Elsewhere is where I belong
Nothing against your decision
Who needs sanity or wisdom?
They won’t join so we might as well sic ‘em
Hell is hot these days as a mission
And it’s cold in -  It’s cold in the loony bin
I’m taking the blue pill today
I heard the red one’s been frying some brains
They can’t even look at it
To throw the book at it
Might as well toss every page
Getting strapped to a chair
Sure made it easy to talk to the air
I had a sane conversation
About our sad nation
Turns out there was nobody there
(repeat chorus)
Mopping up pee stains
Could you cut my bed chains?
I could slip through that vent
Make it look like an accident
There’s a bus in my district
If there’s a ride I will hitch it
Polls are closing at 9
I could make it right on time
(repeat chorus)
Fade Into the Basement (Amen)
Memory fades in a day, dirt in a mouth washes away
A part of me has fallen asleep, a tattered protest sign in the street
Whoa, I just read something crazy, but not quite enough to phase me
When did Christians get so Buddhist? Looks like we’re going through this
Fade in, fade into the basement, amen
Fade in, fade into the basement, amen
Drop, drop, feel your ears pop, can’t stop the chop that lops off the top
Amputate what will atrophy, it’s only you, it’s only me
(repeat pre-chorus)
(repeat chorus)
I don’t think this wall can keep us in
I don’t think this wall can keep us in
(repeat pre-chorus)
(repeat chorus)
Have You Heard the News?
Have you heard the news?
The news is talking to you
Anything you wanna feel
It’s all real
I was picking and choosing, choosing my truth
I didn’t like the way I started thinking of you
Have you heard the news?
Everyone is happy
We live in a dream
Where everybody screams
I was picking and choosing, choosing my truth
I didn’t like the way I started thinking of you
Why is this so sad?
Can we make it better?
Have you heard the news?
We’ve got the same muse
You for your lazy
Me for my crazy
I was picking and choosing, choosing my truth
I didn’t like the way I started thinking of you
Have you heard the news?
No, you turned it off
You were fixing your printer
Thinking about dinner
I was picking and choosing, choosing my truth
I didn’t like the way I started thinking of you
Why is this so sad?
Can we make it better?
Times, They Are Not Changing
Stay where you are, the water’s low
Accept it soon, you’re dry as bones
Worry’s wasted on the changing
On the changing times
Dry your pen, close your eyes
Say what you want, we’ve got time
They are the sinning, we are the grinning
The constantly winning side
Times, they are not changing (2x)
Politicians, make no decisions
As you stall late, clog up the hallway
With no hill to die on, just cliffs to climb on
Everything’s right on time
Mothers and fathers, you can holler
Criticize us sons and daughters
Why don’t we go slow? Carry our cold hope
Back to the old road now
Times they are not changing (2X)
Erase the line, clear the curse
All survivors come in first
In our race to the past, let’s make this the last
Let’s make this the very last time
Times, they are not changing (4X)
Watch Who You’re Heiling
Laying down for what you believe in
Letting power keep on deceiving
As if you’ve no pony in this fight
Smiling, eating bologna, waving bye bye
Is your heart as cold as ice?
Seems you love the wolf’s disguise
I thought you were someone else
Once was good but now who can tell?
Watch who you’re heiling
He’s sure got it good, knows your heart is pudding
He can say anything, knows you’ll always give up your footing
As if you were standing for anything
Barbecuing free America
Proving you’re that bad Samaria
Cheering as your neighbor dies
Beaten by your lazy eyes
Can’t you see one drop of sun?
You’ve turned your face from everyone
Saw you swimming in the deep
I tried a tweet but a tweet is cheap
Watch who you’re heiling
(repeat chorus 2X)
What Would You Protest?
Sitting on your duff, have you ever had enough?
Do you only get annoyed and never mad?
When you’re watching the TV, and you see ‘em in the street
Do you ever wish that you could join the pack?
Aren’t they dumb? Walking in the sun?
Leaving the city a mess
Well what about you? What would make you move?
Tell me, what would you protest?
Moving to the ‘burbs, just to get out of the herd
Just to find a little quiet in my head
People always bleed, then they stare right at me
So I pull up the covers on my bed
(repeat chorus)
We stand for truth and justice
We can take your complaints and cusses
We feel this in our hearts
We will lighten up the dark
(repeat chorus)
You Think You’re a Good Guy
Your eyes never leave your head
You have to think how you were bred
Your daddy don’t like blacks
And he always made you lunch in a paper sack, so...
Fish don’t swim upstream
If you were kind it would be a blaspheme
You’ve gotta be a raging shit
Can’t stick out, couldn’t handle it
You think you’re a good guy
And everyone you know is exactly alike
You think you’re a good guy
You only see the wood in other people’s eyes
So this is who you’re gonna be?
Can’t you see you’re a parody
You can’t always be right
When you think you’re a good guy
You dirtied your white hat
You called a dude in another car “fat”
But he never heard a word
Like if he was blind and you gave him the bird, it’s fine...
Why try to be better?
It’s so lame to follow every letter
Rules were made to break
I messed up and it’s your mistake
(repeat chorus)
Elective perspective, unchecked and uncorrected
A vendetta, embedded, villains are hero-headed
(repeat chorus)
Obsolete Songs
I hope these songs get obsolete fast
I hope to look way back on this ugly past
I hope we numb will wake up and change
I hope all of us together get to turn the page
I hope this is just a blip in history
Not the beginning of an era of misery
I hope the ones for hate are the minority
I hope we don’t let fear drive our core beliefs
I hope these songs gather dust in a museum
In a boring old corner where no one can see ‘em
I hope the kids on their field trips fall asleep
‘Cuz there was nothing to see in 2017
I hope stale ways get stuck in a stalemate
And every protest sign gets a glass case
I hope the people get a taste for righteousness
And always try to get back when we digress
I hope we find a leader who won’t lie to us
Who will serve the people over his own lust
I hope 4 years lasts only 4 weeks
Sorry, I couldn’t wait to make this obsolete
(repeat chorus)
Pleased to meet you
We are so glad to see you
Pleased to meet you
We are so glad to see you...
