This close takes it's name from the former #bakehouse on the west side, with accommodation also provided here for the #bakers, hammer men (the metalsmiths) and the Acheson Family who were household staff to James VI and Charles I. As you can see, #bakehouseclose is one of the best preserved #oldtown #closes and it surely gives you a good insight as to how life down here in the #Canongate was over the last three or four centuries...#cobbled, irregular #stonework and deep #archways; I do love #oldedinburgh...
