NOTE: (Not Proofread) In which you and Bane have a past together.

This eventually follows stage-play canon rules, follows the HC that Alice is Little Girl, and has slightly OOC characters due to stage-play canon rules.

I didn’t know if you wanted headcanons or a oneshot, so I defaulted to oneshot, then realized that there wasn't much content for Bane and decided to write both. 🙏

"Oletus Manor". You weren't sure how long it'd been — how long ago that you had left, that you had even thought about the place.

The answer should have been obvious the moment you saw that it had been written from the accursed place. You even considered disposing of it, leaving it in the bin just as you had left the manor and your memories of it behind. But you couldn't help your own curiosity, and before you knew it, you had continued reading the letter.

It was an invitation of some sort, for a peculiar game with no specified details whatsoever. Normally, at the first mention of "game", you would've stopped reading, but your eyes continued skimming through the letter, and a particular sentence written in blood red ink elicited a gasp out of you.

"Bane Perez is alive." It read, and it was all the Baron left you with.

You could tell that, whoever this man was, he was definitely very careful and very deliberate with his words, that he'd done an eerily great job at his research. The cliffhanger was on purpose — you were certain. After all, Bane Perez, the gamekeeper of Oletus Manor's hunting grounds, the gentle and reserved guardian of its fauna, and your first love, was the very reason you had left.

The mention of the name itself was painful enough, yet you had read through the lone sentence four- no, five times, each iteration making memories both fond and painful resurface.

You remembered you first saw him, when it had been around a week since you worked as a gardener in the manor. Little Orpheus and Alice had been playing around, hiding in bushes that you hadn't yet touched, and sometimes even running in circles around you.

You remembered seeing the burly man go past you, causing you to slowly stop what you were doing as you watched him go away in curiosity. The children had probably noticed, as Alice stopped playfully tugging on Orpheus' sleeve to speak.

"That's mister Bane," she said, and you had turned to look at her. "he protects the big horned dogs in the forest."

"They're called deers, Alice..." Orpheus corrected.

You looked at the door he had gone through for a moment, but just as quickly turned back to continue your work on the bush. "Is that so..." you said while the kids continued their playful fighting.

You remembered first approaching him, when you had finished the duties you'd been assigned that day. He was helping a little fawn whose legs were stuck in a pallet. Naturally, as the gamekeeper of the forest, the man had a heart for its creatures — "It comes with the job," you remembered he had told you during the brief conversation you had moments after.

"So how long have you-"

The sound of a loud gunshot echoed throughout the woods, followed by several birds loudly chirping and fearfully flying out of danger's way.

A minute after the gunshot was heard, you had asked in a hushed voice, "What- what was that?"

Bane let out a disgruntled sigh, as if this was a normal occurrence to him. "It must be one of those meddling poachers again," he muttered out.

"I'm sorry I- I'll have to go talk to them," He said, dusting himself off.

"Wait!-" you stopped him before he could leave, almost embarrassed knowing that it'd been done out of impulse. "Can I see you again tomorrow?" You shyly asked.

The gamekeeper waited for a moment before glancing back at you with a reassuring smile, "of course, (Name)."

You remembered when you started visiting him in his little cabin daily, bringing along some of the flowers that you'd carefully grown and picked from a rather isolated place in the gardens. He'd be confused, yet thankful for the gift at first, giving you a smile with a little pat that'd eventually become more intimate forms of affection as you'd find yourselves comfortable with one another.

You remember when both of you professed your mutual love for one another — it'd been a secret at first, between the two of you and perhaps Burke. It eventually got to the kids as they wouldn't stop pestering you when they had noticed the newfound closeness you both shared.

You remembered the day when he had brought little elk with him, when you had jokingly mused about it being your child, and when you both had named it "Black Nose."

"It's a little plain. Isn't it?" Bane scratched his head in thought.

"I think it's cute, and fitting too. Black Nose." You said it's name, gently patting the sleeping elk calf on the head. "Unless you'd rather name him Siegbert Lange Von Ludendorff — which is quite long, but definitely not plain in my opinion."

"I- you know what, let's just stick with Black Nose."

Your heart suddenly stung — you knew exactly why. You clutched your chest, feeling your eyes start to water at the thought of it. You knew what you had remembered, that you had remembered the painfully unpleasant memory that brought to you sorrow, regret, a ghost that pledged to haunt you for the entirety of your lifetime.

You remembered when it was your anniversary, when the time you shared together had to be cut short because of the annoyingly persistent and ignorant poachers.

You remembered waiting. Waiting for him to return. Waiting until the clock struck twelve midnight, when the haunting chimes begun their song. Waiting for the cabin doors to open, with Bane on the other side — tired, yet nevertheless happy to come back to you. But it never happened, and you had gotten worried.

You remembered taking your coat and walking outside amidst the cold midnight winds in search of him. With a little lantern in your hands, you had walked all around the forest, past cages, through walls, and through the seemingly endless line of trees. You were determined to find him, and you wouldn't stop until you did — even if you felt like you were about to collapse.

And you remembered the look of horror your face held. You found him — at least, you thought that was him. He had been laying down, cold and absolutely motionless on the ground. Around his neck was one of the many bear traps he'd usually lay around the forest. His head — the sight that made you break — on it was the head of the very elk that both of you had treated like your child.

Bane Perez was dead.

You were convinced at the time, and without a word, you ran away and left the manor. The memories you so carefully and joyfully built refused to let you move on so easily. For years, he'd been the first thought at your wake and the last before you'd sleep away into another day. There were times you'd sworn you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder, prompting you to look back only to be met with silence and nothingness. Through mirrors and within foggy days, when you'd sworn you saw his hauntingly familiar figure, you'd rub your eyes and make sure that you weren't dreaming — and if you were, that you'd wake up from the nightmare you had been living in.

The letter gave you a small sense of hope; albeit, one that was quite difficult to comprehend given that you'd seen and felt him yourself. You were never one to indulge in superstitions or in the supernatural in general, but it was Bane.

'Maybe, just maybe... I should give it a shot...' You thought, muttering to yourself shortly after, "and if I happen to be dragging myself into my death, then so be it. Maybe I'll see him sooner than I thought..."

Thus, you had begun packing some of your belongings in preparation of your trip back into the one and only Oletus Manor.

You stopped for a moment right in front of the familiar gates. They still stood as high as you remembered, and you likewise felt the same nervousness you did when you had first went past the gates. Your legs felt like they'd gotten heavier with each step you took toward the gloomy Manor's front doors — you almost regret coming here, really.

You wanted to turn around, to go back to where you came from, but you winced at the sight of the forest. The path you had taken on the way to the manor had vanished, seemingly through thin air. You didn't know if the path was even there in the first place, or if your memory had been filling in the missing spots, but you knew that you no longer had a choice.

Reluctantly, you opened the doors, and you were greeted with a rather warm interior as opposed to the cold and dark exterior. The lobby looked the same, from its paintings to its general choice of decoration. It was as if you never left.

You walked closer to the little vase of Anemones, reaching out to feel its petals. 'A flower that bears far too many meanings for me to list down... Though these will probably wilt the next day...' You thought when you had noticed some of the leaves had dried and fallen off.

"They even kept my choice of flowers..."

"Well, you made a great choice, even I found myself having a-"

"Gh!- don't scare me like that!" You scolded the woman in a green apron and a hat. "And- who are you? how did you get here? Very silently at that... Were you also sent that strange letter?"

"Hehe, sorry about that. I'm Emma, Emma Woods, and I'm a gardener. I also received a letter but..." She paused, as if trying to remember something. "I don't really remember what was in it to be honest..."

You immediately covered up your mild disappointment with with a pensive frown. "I- I see... Well, I guess it's only fair that I introduce my-"

"Oh that can wait! You can introduce yourself to everyone instead. Follow me!" Emma said before grabbing your hand and eagerly leading you to the next room.

"Wait- what do you mean everyone?!"

Everyone meant quite the number of people. Your eyes widened at first, before you started squinting, pointing at each one, and mentally counting how many people were in the room. From the corner, a brunette with a bruised eye seemed to understand what you were doing. "Thirty-seven — eight including you."

"Hm? Pardon?" You turned to the man, realizing that he probably meant the people you were counting. "Ah... nevermind."

If you didn't have your doubts before, you certainly did now. It was ridiculous — everything was ridiculous. The strange and diverse crowd, the baron, the suspiciously large eight-armed figure that you may or may not have just seen crawl outside the window. 'Just what was that?!'

When you had settled into your assigned room, you couldn't help but feel like a fool that had fallen into the clutches of a con artist. You didn't spot Bane among the people in the fairly large crowd, and with no way to find yourself back outside of the never-ending woods, you were probably stuck with all these strangers for life.

"Maybe it won't be so bad." You breathed in, trying to calm yourself and maybe cope with the fact that you may or may not have entered the second layer of hell. "I'm not alone now- I'm-"

"(Name)?" The door to your room suddenly opened, and from it came an oddly familiar voice.

You turned around and were met with a pleasant surprise. "Orpheus? Is that you?"

The young man didn't respond, but instead gave you a big hug. "It's been so long! It's- how many has it been...?"

With a melancholic smile, you pat him on the head. "Does it really matter now?" You laughed. "Where's Alice?"

"Oh... That's a long and complicated story for another day..." Orpheus quickly changed the topic, "Now that you're here, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to- hold on, I don't think I can let you in on the details yet — but you can trust me."

"What do you-"

"Follow me, we already have your game scheduled!" He cut you off and signalled for you to follow him.

You sighed in relief before standing up and following him — it was nice to know that not everyone here was a complete stranger. "You haven't changed one bit have you..."

He led you to a room with a small dining table and six chairs, one being occupied by a little girl that looked exactly like the little Alice who you'd see running around the gardens.

"(Nickname)!" She quickly got off her seat and ran to hug you.

"Alice? Wait- you haven't changed at all! Literally..." You said with intrigue and shock.

"Like I said, it's a long story, but I'll be sure to tell you another day." Orpheus nervously chuckled. "That aside, this is the waiting room. We normally have four players in a game, but it'll just be the three of us for now."

"And I'm assuming that this is another story for another day?"

He hummed in response, before taking the little girl's hand and signalling for you to follow him again. While curiously following the two, you couldn't help but be reminded of the times they had done the same thing when they'd find you alone, or when they'd secretly pay a visit to you and Bane...

'Bane...' the name rung in your head. You still had no clue what the letter meant — if it was implying that he was still here, or if you had interpreted it wrongly, and that you had been tricked into coming here only to be met with nothing. Not that it lied. Perhaps the man truly was alive, and you'd made the mistake of assuming that he was in the manor when the letter provided no further details regarding his whereabouts.

Orpheus led you to what he had called the Darkwoods, another hauntingly familiar place from your past. The three of you walked around, eventually stopping by a curious machine. While Orpheus had started typing away with it, Alice had explained to you the basic fundamentals of the game in great detail. You were rather astonished with the words she'd used, but nevertheless, you continued to listen carefully.

Once the three of you had finished fully decoding a machine, it let out a loud pop.

"That's just one of the five we need to finish in order to start opening the gates," the little girl informed you. "The Hunter's probably looking for us based on the signal, so we'd best be on our ways. Stay safe (Nickname)!"

"I will. Don't hurt yourself now, Alice, Orpheus!" you yelled back as the three of you parted ways.

You grimaced at the sight of what a part of the forest had become — desolate, with several broken structures and machinery along with a river containing an acid-like substance. In the distance you could see a large bonfire, but you couldn't quite tell if it'd been always there or if it was a new addition because of the Baron's game.

Eventually, you found one of the machines you were taught to decode, but by a strike of misfortune, your location had been made known to the hunter because of, "... A bear trap?"

You knelt down to closely examine the trap, only to realize they were the exact same ones Bane had used, made known with his initials marked in its jaw. But you started panicking — you felt your head beating, heard the rapid clanking of chains accompanied by heavy footsteps.

In fear, you closed your eyes and accepted your fate. Too afraid to look back and too slow to possibly escape it. But the harsh sound emitted by the chains stopped, and you heard a light thud as though the hunter had dropped whatever they'd been holding.

"(Name)...?"

You flinched and your eyes immediately shot open upon hearing his voice, but you shook your head and pinched yourself. What if you'd been dreaming? What if you'd been imagining things? It wouldn't be the first time it'd happen, really. You had hallucinated for years on end — you'd be surprised if you hadn't for once. But you turned around anyway, or at least, tried to. It was quite difficult, given that your leg was still trapped, but you saw the familiar hands of Bane helping you out of it.

You were speechless, and you were once again face-to-face with the man you came looking for.

Bane Perez was alive.

You were unsure, but you were hopeful. He looked exactly the same as he did that night — when you'd thought he'd passed, when you'd left the manor in tears and in pain, in hopes that it was all but dream or a terrible nightmare.

He didn't know how long it'd been either. How long he'd spent asleep — living in an unfamiliar dream without you, where time seemed to have repeated itself endlessly. All while he'd been aware that you existed, but you weren't there. While he'd change the steps he'd take in every iteration, only for it to inevitably change nothing and the fact that you'd vanished.

"I'm... sorry..." You croaked out. You didn't realize that you had teared up, but who could blame you after knowing what you yourself had done? "I didn't- I-"

Bane pulled you closer, hugging you with comforting reassurance. "We both didn't know. Even I didn't think I'd survive, and I thought- I thought you'd vanished, but I didn't know that I'd been trapped in a deep sleep until I woke up to such a crowded manor... "

He released you from the hug and looked at you, "And the thought that terrified me the most was that you'd forgotten, and you would never return..."

"So — it's alright, (Name). You're here. I'm here, and we're back together," He said as he wiped another tear from your eye.

"You never really left, I think," you chuckled. "But you were quite the terrifying ghost I'll admit."

Bane tilted his head and crossed his arms. "And what exactly does that mean?"

"Well..." You trailed off, looking to the side to see that Alice had been giggling like the little rascals she was years ago while Orpheus held a relieved smile. With a mischievous smile, you said, "Maybe that can wait, you've got survivors to hunt."

The man laughed and cracked his knuckles, giving you time to run away. "We'll see about that, (Name)."

No amount of time and space can separate you from the people you are meant to be with in your life. They will always come back.

Fandom — Identity V Pairing — Gamekeeper | Bane Perez/reader Content Warnings — Author's Notes — Please note that Bane in my headcanons have two prosthetic tongues and a lisp because of this.

With the many years of isolation and the years of grief that came with losing his best friend, Bane longs for a connection where you're both able to trust and love each other and when he found you, he knew that he found the person he wanted.

Bane was a naturally big person as a normal person and a hunter, so, it wasn't a shock when the first time he laid a hand on you it almost enveloped your face, leaving him to pause and drag that hand down your neck, your front, to your waist.

You swore that you could feel the steam coming from underneath his mask as he carried you to a chair, even more silent than he usually was.

After that game, the gamekeeper had taken up your doorway to invite you to the hunter's side for lunch and tea. Literally, the man easily made the doorway look like a pet door when he stood there, mask off and prosthetic tongue talking.

You hadn't even known that the man was even capable of speaking before you saw him like that. It was honestly charming how his eyes had been averted and he seemed unsure of what to say.

Those eyes weren't the same way when he was eating you out. While he wasn't able to use a tongue to fuck you, his fingers were just enough to fill you, and stretch you, while his lips worked at anything he wasn't able to get. His other hand was easily able to pin your hips and chest flat against the bed. He loves the state of you, he loves the smell of you as you squirm and whine.

He likes to pin you down, and hold you in games, but when the two of you are in the bedroom, it's like a whole new ball game. Instead of you struggling for a win, it was one of trust, it was one of carnal need. It allowed for him to sweat off the stress and anger of the day and focus on making the two of you feel good.

He barely fits. Bane is so big that he needs to stretch you out every time so that he doesn't hurt you. His muscles easily cage you in, his hips forcing you to bounce against his skin as he grunted against your neck. Pure raw power, pure need, he fucks you like a wild animal so deep and with raw instinct.

"Look at you, sweetheart," Bane would grunt, flicking a thumb over one of your nipples, the other gripping one of your ass cheeks so tight that you were sure that he would leave bruises, "Taking me in so well..."

And he would easily paint your insides or skin all white. He's sexually suppressed from isolation and he's all pent up, he wants to make sure that you're filled to the brim until you're overflowing. He wants to see you leak cum and still want more.

But god, he wants to also spoil you too; washing you, massaging oils into your skins, letting you know you're loved. Bane needs to share the love he hasn't been able to for years, and its now all for you.

it's bane loving hours !! he's so cute (✯ᴗ✯)

bane perez reminds me of cups of coffee at night, and sweltering hot nights, sleeping with no blankets on, and warm mornings in a pool or on the beach.

he makes me think of petting every dog you see, patting stray cats heads. he seems like the kind of guy to keep dog treats on him at all times to give them to hungry dogs.

i want to go out and plant precious flowers with him, like honeysuckles that you can drink the sap out of once they're in bloom. or planting flowers that he loves, and making him countless bouqets after they grow.

he treasures every gift he's given. although he doesn't talk about it very often, his love language is gift receiving. he's often too embarassed to give one back. he's afraid you won't like it.

his hands are big, and soft. they're scarred, sure, but it adds to how warm his hands feel when they're cupping your cheek, or holding hands with you while you do something else.

he doesn't say it, but he enjoys just being there with you. your existence is a blessing, if only to him, and him alone.

for a long time, blacknose was his only friend. and then burke, and maybe luchino, after some time. but his favorite friend, and lover, is you.

he's nervous, not all the time, but most of it. you calm his nerves, even when it feels like he can't slow his racing heart. maybe a gentle tap, or a hug, is enough to bring him down from the shaky hill he would once stand on.

he loves dancing. not the rowdy club kind, but sweet slow-dancing with you. the kind you play a romantic record on, and dance until you're too sleepy to continue on.

he lets you sleep on his chest. the pressure makes him feel safe, and if you don't like sleeping on him, buy him a weighted blanket. he'll thank you.

bane perez is a calm, soft lover. that is all.

Bane Perez Parental Relationship HCs

He appears to be rather quiet and perhaps a bit intimidating… But, Bane is truly a kind hearted individual.

Need help reaching that top shelf? He’s got ya

Very proud whenever you show him your latest work. Art? Writing? Something else? He always hugs you and shows interest in whatever it is that you do.

Bane can get a bit scary when protecting you, but he always apologizes after for spooking you so.

He’s also a bit over protective and can be rather threatening when putting his foot down on some matters... but, never forgets to apologize. It’s not his intention to scare you

A walking wildlife encyclopedia. He’s always willing to tell you about different animals and his encounters with them.

His hugs are the most comforting, just watch that trap around his neck.

He really loves nature to the point he’d offer you a sort of mini hike around the maps to stretch your legs and get away for a bit.

You’re desperate to escape the smoldering heat. It’s too hot to rest in the car; it’s been baking all day beneath the sweltering summer sun, parked just outside your place of work. If you attempt to sit in it now, you’d only be greeted with a wave of torrid air, stung with the touch of your seatbelt, and burnt from the searing leather of your steering wheel.

You’re off from work earlier than usual—the blinding sun is usually long beneath the horizon before you head home for the day. The pathetically small sun visor does nothing to shade your eyes from the blazing sunlight. Rather than driving half-blind, you decide to wait out the setting sun.

As you ponder how to spend the rest of your afternoon, you realize that now is an opportune time to visit the new bookstore, The Book Haven, that opened last month. After changing out of your uniform and throwing your work stuff in the trunk, you walk across the plaza to the shop entrance.

The bookstore greets you with the chime of a bell and a rush of cool air as you step in, a blissful contrast to the scorching outdoors. The welcoming scent of coffee grounds and the tangy aroma of old books accompany the refreshing breeze. You take a deep breath, appreciating the convivial atmosphere. The bookstore is a sublime sight; words almost can’t describe its charm.

Shelves like skyscrapers—stuffed to the brim with books, magazines, and comics—graze the ceiling. An intimate reading nook lies next to the door; an inviting window seat dwells beside a floor-to-ceiling window. Clear mosaic window clings cover the glass, casting beautiful rainbows throughout the store. Stringed vintage light bulbs illuminate the shelves; candle-lit sconces adorn the top corners of each one. Oriental rugs lay between the shelves, covering a dark mocha floor. Tucked in the back of the store is a small coffee cranny, hidden at first glance. Frank Sinatra’s charming, rich vocals travel through the air, tickling your ears. The owner clearly put the utmost time, energy, and love into the creation of their shop. It is unequivocally perfect and already one of your favorite places.

You wander to the classics section, enthralled by the exquisite covers. Sensing someone nearby, your eyes glance at movement caught in the corner of your eye. Your stomach somersaults at the stunning stranger. The instant you lay your eyes on him, you forget to breathe for a moment—your breath engulfs your throat. You’re astounded by the Adonis of a man before you.

Bristles of scruff grace his defined jawline—his low man-bun neatly styles his dark chestnut hair. A grey short-sleeve button-up shirt hugs his toned arms; a white tank top clings to his lean, fit frame; cuffed slim-fit khaki pants, help up by a bronze braided belt, embrace his thick thighs; and weathered, chunky brown leather shoes don his feet.

Through the rose-colored glasses that surround your heart, your soul imagines a life with a perfect stranger. The hopeless romantic in you can’t help but steal glances, hoping to catch a better glimpse of him. The moment he turns to walk away, your heart sinks to your stomach. You hope this isn’t the last time you see this gorgeous man.

A few minutes later, you’re mulling over a collectible edition of The Catcher in the Rye, attempting to justify purchasing yet another copy of your favorite book. A melodic voice interrupts your pondering. “That’s a pretty edition of The Catcher in the Rye you’ve got there.”

You turn towards the charming voice. Lo-and-behold, it’s the love of your life: the handsome stranger you’ve mentally lived a lifetime with. His beauty is even more profound up close: now you can see that his eyes are a lovely shade of blue. His eyes, haunted by a subtle sadness, draw you in, unlike anything you’ve experienced before. You find yourself entranced in his sea-blue current; you could easily drown in his gaze. You attempt to hide your awestruck expression and converse with him like a normal human being. “I agree! I already own a copy though, do I really need a new one?”

“I think we both know the answer is always yes,” he assures.

“Okay, you’ve convinced me. I'll get it! Thank you for justifying my unnecessary purchase.”

Your words hang in the air, everything going quiet as you wait for the ravishing stranger to introduce himself. The two of you stare in silence at each other, the tension thickening as the seconds pass by. After a few moments, his face flashes in realization—you were waiting for his name.

“I’m Bucky,” he offers with an enchanting smile, extending his hand out to you. You share your name as the two of you shake hands. Your eyes stare down his veiny arm to his ring-studded fingers grasped around yours. You allow yourself to imagine for a few moments how amazing those fingers would feel tracing your arms, tangling your hair, and teasing your inner thigh. Your lustful reverie comes to an abrupt halt at the sight of the book nestled inside the crook of his elbow: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the bane of your existence. You scoff with furrowed brows; of course, Mr. Handsome Stranger would be interested in the one book you despise.

“Got something to say there, sweetheart?” he questions with an amused grin.

“Out of all the classic novels in this entire store, that’s the one you chose? The Metamorphosis?”

“What’s wrong with this one?” he jives.

You pause for a second, debating whether it’s worth it to argue with a stranger. The pondering lasts only a few seconds; the exhaustion from your day disintegrates your filter. Besides, you loathe The Metamorphosis.

“What isn’t wrong with it? The dude wakes up thinking he’s an insect? The reader has to sit there throughout the entire book, wondering whether he’s a man or a bug? What the actual fuck? I didn’t appreciate the existential crisis that book gave me at fifteen; if I can help someone else avoid the suffering caused by that monstrosity, I'm going to do my part,” you huff, unamused by the joy Bucky seems to gain from your zealous analysis.

“Wow, what a passionate review! Perez Hilton would be envious of your slander. Okay then, what classic would you recommend instead?”

You cross your arms, expecting him to challenge your response. “The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.”

“That’s a play,” he counters.

“It’s published as a book; it counts! It’s witty, playful, and has a happy ending, which is the most important point of all. It also doesn’t make you want to pull a Fahrenheit 451 and burn every copy in existence,” you attest.

He steps closer to you, tucking loose strands of his hair behind his ear. “Life doesn’t always have a happy ending, sweetheart.”

Great, there he goes again with that freaking pet name; it’s going to be the death of you. He knows your name, you just gave it to him, yet here he is, infuriatingly insisting on calling you sweetheart instead. Stupid pretty boy with his ocean blue eyes and amorous smile.

“That’s exactly the point,” you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “So, why would I want to read something that doesn’t end well? If I’m going to escape this reality for a while, it better be for a happier one.”

“And if it's not?”

“Then I’ll throw the book across the room and make up my own happy ending!”

“Ooh, aggressive,” he tuts. “The owner of this place might not be too happy with you if you’re throwing books all over the place; it’ll scare away the customers.”

“Then it’s a good thing the owner isn’t here,” you interject confidently, knowing full well you have no idea who the owner is.

“Well, that just isn’t true, sweetheart. You’re looking right at him.”

He’s lying—he has to be. Why would a dreamboat like Bucky own a bookstore?

You scoff, “you’re not the owner of this place.”

“I’m not? What makes you say that?” he banters.

“People like you don’t own bookstores!” you exclaim.

“People like me?” he goads, cocking his head to the side. The action erupts butterflies in your stomach.

“Attractive people!” you groan.

“So you think I’m attractive?” he plays, stepping to close the gap between you.

“Psh, no, you wish,” you muster. The heat spreading across your cheeks betrays your bluff.

There are mere inches between the both of you now; you hope he can’t hear your racing heartbeat. You watch his eyes go down from yours to your mouth and back up again. He eyes you with a smirk, his teeth playfully tugging his bottom lip. It takes everything in your power not to give in to his spell.

“I’ve known you for what, five minutes? I don’t go around kissing strangers, Bucky,” you falter, taking a step back from his closeness.

“Then let’s not be strangers, sweetheart. Grab a coffee with me; I know a nice place, not far from here,” he flirts, gesturing to the counter at the back of the store.

“Let me learn more about what goes on in that pretty little head of yours,” he purrs, his breath tickling your cheek.

“Okay, fine. I’ll have a coffee with you,” you surrender.

A bright, honeyed smile dons his face.

“It better be good, though. Not the stale crap you usually get in the middle of the afternoon.”

“I’d only give you the best, sweetheart,” he winks, extending his right hand. You take it; he gives you a soft squeeze before weaving you through the towering shelves.

Your discussion continues with another passionate book review as he prepares your drink. He’s a sucker for gritty dystopian novels while you gravitate towards sappy romances. He shares his passion for painting as he guides you to the reading nook. The artwork hung on the edges of the bookcases is crafted by him—a detail you hadn’t noticed at first glance. His stunning work features both landscapes and people. He loves to sit in a picturesque landscape and paint for endless hours. Occasionally, he takes his old polaroid as he explores the town, snapping moments between strangers, translating their intimacy to canvas when he gets home.

He gestures for you to take a seat in the reading nook before handing you our steaming cup of joe. You sit with your legs crossed, your hands hugging the mug in your lap. Bucky sits with his leg draped over the side of the bench, his left foot pressing into his right thigh. The conversation shifts topics; the two of you divulge your desires and unfulfilled ambitions. You aren’t sure if it’s the look in his eyes, the sweet cup of joe in your palms, or the aroma of coffee surrounding you, but in his presence, your senses feel wide awake.

Before you know it, the mesmeric moon replaces the sizzling sun, melting away the blistering heat, and the steaming cup of coffee in your hands has long chilled. Bucky’s employee interrupts the blissful rendezvous, informing him that all the closing duties are complete, and he’s headed home for the night.

You stare at your watch in shock—it's five past nine. Where did the time go? You apologize profusely to the poor kid who had to close up alone; he assures you it’s no problem.

A melancholic pit in your stomach forms as you turn back to Bucky. He’s nestled himself into your soul; you don’t want to say farewell to him so soon. He has a sad glint in his eyes; you hope it’s because he’s also dreading the end of this perfect night.

“Can I walk you to your car?” he asks timidly, his earlier suave demeanor gone from his voice. He stands up in front of you, offering his arm to escort you.

“I’d love that,” you reply with a shy grin, grabbing his arm and hugging it tightly.

In the blink of an eye, you’re in front of your car. You let go of his arm and lean against the trunk. You stare into his eyes, hoping that he can see without the use of words how much you don’t want this moment to end. There’s a few moments of painful silence before Bucky clears his throat.

“So, now that we’re not total strangers, how about that kiss?” he flirts with pleading eyes.

“Okay,” you reply with a bashful smile.

He slowly reaches his hand towards your cheek, softly stroking it with his thumb. He presses his forehead against yours. “Are you sure you want to do this? ‘Cause if we do, you might not be able to get rid of me, sweetheart.”

“Yes I do, Bucky,” you giggle.

He grins as he gently presses his pillowy pink lips on yours. The kiss steals all the air from your lungs—his touch sends tingles throughout your body, electrifying your veins. You’re breathless when your lips finally part.

“Let me get your number before I let you go,” Bucky insists. You nod and hand him your phone, unable to form a coherent thought. The ghost of his lips and fingers trace your figure. You’re barely acquainted with his tender touch, yet you feel naked without it, yearning to once again be within his grasp.

You exchange phones—adding your number and name with a sparkling heart emoji and swiftly passing his phone back before you can change your mind. Bucky snaps a quick selfie for his contact, smirking for the camera. You grin when you see he also put emojis by his name: a beetle and a kissy-face.

He pecks your cheek before opening the car door for you. “Hope to see you around, lovebug.” The new pet name burns your cheeks and erupts butterflies in your stomach.

He doesn’t leave the parking lot until your car disappears completely from his view.

You drive home with thoughts of Bucky swirling in your mind. You send a silent thanks to the universe for bringing this beautiful man into your life. His voice, touch, and smile echo in your thoughts for the remainder of the evening—his presence paving its way through your dreams. You’re falling hard and fast; you only hope he’ll be there to catch you.

🐦‍⬛ Nightmare doesn't immediately respond. He sends a sideways glance to you, who's bound and bored at a slow-ticking rocket chair. "I guess you'd be hard-pressed to find any bigger than those. Must be nice to brag about," you rattle on. If you're trying to seduce your way to freedom, you're failing miserably. Nightmare stalks over to your chair, his broad chest casting a shadow over you.

"Would you have that same attitude once you've been smothered beneath them? Keep mouthing off, and I might just test it."

...What? Was that supposed to be a threat? Anyway, it didn't achieve the desired effect. You blink up at him, not totally opposed to the idea.

📸 Joseph's gaze flicks to your chest. He blinks away a milisecond later, but not quickly enough to escape your notice. A cheeky grin appears on your face as if to say made you look. "I disagree," he tuts. "Remind me, which one of us is so inept with her brassieres that she needs me to unclasp them for her every night, and – despite loathing them so – dutifully puts them on again the next day, as if her poor, aching back demands it of her?" Knowing you can't say anything, he sends back a winning smile of his own.

🦎 Luchino readily cocks his attention to you. "Oh? Like what you see?" You just never noticed how visibly his chest protrudes, especially from a side view. But your comment attracts him closer to your chair, and he decides to give you a little show. Slowly, too slowly, he slips off his jacket, letting it crumple to the floor.

"Oh," escapes your lips once you realize what's going on. Next goes the first button of his shirt.

⚡ Alva sets down his pen when you drag your nails down his chest. What began as an innocuous shoulder massage quickly turned into marveling at the broadness of his pecs. He's sure you meant well, but that comment draws a sharp sigh out of him. "I'm glad to know I'm entertaining you..." he murmurs. That snaps you back to reality: you wanted to be serving him today. You kiss his shoulder blade as an apology, kneading his tense muscles until he lets out another hitched breath.

🌪️ Ithaqua takes your comment as an invitation to reach forward, cupping an icy hand over one of your breasts. It happens so fast you can barely register it. Then he decides: "They're not too bad." He has never been one for delicacy, but that was so blunt it startles you into a fit of giggles. Sometimes you forget he's inexperienced with this sort of thing.

🦌 Bane looks down at the pout you're sending him. This is the first time he's let you hug him, and you're just realizing how much you have to strain your neck to avoid being suffocated by his chest. "A bigger body just means a stronger shield. Nothing more to it than that," he says dryly. You roll your eyes. He's always so hardheaded.

"You're more like a pillow to me," you try. "I wish I had some of these."

He still doesn't give you the reaction you're fishing for. He silently clutches your waist and tips back onto his bed, so that you're properly laying on top of him -- like a pillow.

NOTE: (Not Proofread) In which you and Bane don't exactly have a past together, but you eventually find comfort in each other.

The manor was large, and the two of you had worked in completely different areas — you in the indoor and outdoor gardens and he in the surrounding forest. That being said, you most likely didn't know each other at a personal level.

At most, you were probably acquaintances. You'd known you worked at the same place and you occasionally talked, but it'd mostly be for professional reasons rather than for leisure or for friendly activities.

Both of you were probably good friends with Burke, but not exactly so with each other. Not that you were enemies either. Burke just so happened to be great at giving you advice, maybe even making your jobs feel less lonely despite his occasionally stoic demeanor.

Years later, the two of you would meet again; however, not in the way that you'd expect. Of course it wasn't anything grandiose or heartwarming. You'd barely known eachother enough to possibly elicit that kind of reaction. If anything, your reunion would be quite awkward.

Bane would probably be the assigned hunter to your first game. You'd be startled at first, but to be fair, who wouldn't be? Other than that, you'd probably notice that the once quiet man had become much more aggressive, and you'd wonder what had happened for that significant change in attitude.

And you'd try to approach him — keyword, try. Because every time you would, you'd end up sitting in silence, maybe a few feet apart for personal space. And you'd stay there. Sitting. Breathing. Occasionally looking the other way. Maybe even whistling a tune. All before one of you would stand up and say you had to get going.

You could almost swear you heard Burke's signature facepalm and disappointed sigh.

But it'd get better eventually — that is, if you'd initiate the conversation first. He didn't seem like the type of man to easily let down his guard, you'd assume after hearing what had happened, and why he had the head of an elk. Not that you wanted to ask. You had initially thought it was something he did for fun — only for you to discover that the truth was far more gruesome.

However, your first conversations wouldn't go any better either. Especially if you had to carry most of it or stop it because he had answered with something you couldn't respond to.

"So......" You coughed out. "How did you get here?"

You almost cringed. Not only did you already know the answer to the question, you also knew that it wasn't something he'd like to talk about.

"The poachers- they outnumbered me. Treated them nicely only for them turn me into this."

To be honest, you didn't expect him to respond, so you hadn't prepared yourself to answer either.

"Oh." You gulped. "That's rough, buddy."

While your first few conversations were awkward, he appreciated the effort you put at the very least. Especially considering that he wasn't exactly the friendliest hunter in the manor when you'd compare him to the likes of Michiko, Leo, and Violetta. It wasn't really obvious though. He didn't exactly express it with the belief that it wasn't very necessary.

He'd eventually let his guard down around you because of your daily conversations. It wasn't like you of all people would plot something againsft him anyway. Besides, you had worked with- or at least, in the same place he did in the past. He had no reason to put any form of distrust on you.

It wasn't something he was particularly used to. Most of the conversations he held were usually done through letters, and times where he'd talk with other hunters were quite rare. He liked to keep to himself, occasionally talking to Burke when given the chance. But he's trying, so you'll have to give him that.

When you eventually become comfortable enough with each other, your topics would mostly revolve around how your day went, if not another random topic. You'd talk to him about some of the silly things your teammates did during your matches, or how you missed managing the large and beautiful outdoor gardens of the manor while he'd mostly talk about the little animals in it — with much more enthusiasm than you anticipated.

Bane probably has a bit of experience when it comes to crafting, so when you'd come to your usual spot with some flowers you had been growing, he'd give you one of his crafts the next day. They'd mostly be little statues — of animals, unsurprisingly, but also of some of the other residents in the manor (such as your favourite engineer, Burke).

Taking your relationship further isn't exactly something both of you would talk about, but it'd be something you'd consider. It likely would have been different during the man's younger years in the sense that he'd be more bold. But he liked your current relationship, and maybe he'd like to play it safe and keep things the way they are for a while.
