watched the little mermaid trailer, am once again begging these stupid remakes to stop adding really bad vocal runs to random parts of the songs just so you can pretend this isn’t a copycat cashgrab

#personal #what's so incredibly frustrating is that from the little we've seen her sing (shitty vocal runs aside)#halle sounds absolutely AMAZING #just STOP with stupid vocal runs in the middle of songs for no reason #i haven't watched this movie ever since its initial release because i hate it with the passion of a million suns #but beyonce did some of that in the stupid bad stupid awful stupid lion king remake that was bad and stupid #and guess what!! it made the song sound like SHIT #i think it's just cuz vocal runs are stuff you hear in things like pop or r&b #but these aren't pop songs or r&b songs the songs of the disney renaissance were very explicitly modeled after musical theater #they're very theatrical songs #it's why beyonce bombed so fucking hard as nala because beyond the fact that she isn't an actress and certainly not a voice actress #the style she's good at singing is just nowhere near the style of the songs tim rice and elton john made for that movie #and now they're making halle do the same for little mermaid at the expense of what otherwise sounded like an impressive performance #like stop it!!! just stop it!!!! we KNOW the only reason you wanna add new shit is to try and justify the rerelease of the songs #but we all know that this entire enterprise is just a moneymaking machine with no heart or soul or love behind it #so just quit fucking with the songs and do your money machine thing #if i wanted to listen to bad covers of part of your world i'd watch my old recital tapes

Personally, I think TLK 2 is very....unfinished feeling? Like..the first movie needs absolutely nothing added to it imo, but TLK 2 shouldn't have scrapped so much. Watching the workprint feels like a robbery of what could have been. The Disney sequels are already a rough topic of conversation because everyone's got a favorite one they cling onto so rabidly without an inch of hesitation, so you can't call one good and one bad without offending someone's childhood.

Anyway. You're right. Difficult movie to rate and discuss without accidentally starting a war due to how it's both good and bad, and someone's always gonna defend it. Final thoughts? No matter what, the Disney Sequels will always be better than the live action remakes.

i'll admit i was mostly memeing in that post, buuut emphasis on "mostly" lol. i always have Needlessly Earnest lion movie opinions

that's basically how i feel. the more info we in the fanbase collect regarding the making of tlk2, the more it becomes obvious (at least imo) that the movie woulda been better had more resources and time been put into it. like, one of the major plot points - kovu being scar's heir - is just a vestigial remnant of the Uh Oh! We Almost Pulled An Incest! issue disney took too long to notice, and i firmly think it could've been ironed out more believably if the xmas deadline wasn't strangling the crew the whole time

its nearly as frustrating as the cutting of stuff like the outlanders getting actual character development or zira refusing the enemy's help because some people make themselves beyond saving. and yet there's enough charm to the film that it's difficult to give an honest take on it w/o anyone misinterpreting your opinion of it. its one of my fave movies and ppl still think i hate it (which i do but i also don't; if you know, you know)

but yeah, tlk2 can't be talked about basically ever bc it has so many ppl on either side who make strong points while also being loudly, proudly immovable in their stances. which is fine! bc who the fuck cares if you wanna die on the hill that tlk2 is better then tlk1 or whateva! just god good lord in heaven please don't make me think about beyonce nala ever again!!!

I feel sorry for trained voice actors being robbed of roles.

I never knew that Disney princesses (eg Belle) were voiced by theatre/broadway professionals but it makes sense.

I also never knew that Mark Hamill played Ozai (ATLA) AND Joker (Batman) until fairly recently. His voice acting was so good. I watched a video years ago about Tara Strong and I was blown away that she voiced so many characters of my childhood. The lady is amazing!

Yet, when I hear Beyonce as Nala I cringe so badly! Like why was Beyonce given that role? Because she's black, right? Ugh.

Voice acting takes a special skill that many of these popular celebs don't have and that's a fact.

You know, the CGI may be uncanny valley, but the worst part of the "live-action" The Lion King is that they cast Beyonce as Nala and didn't have her sing "Shadowland" from the Broadway musical soundtrack, despite having the scene leading up to it! Can you imagine Beyonce singing "SHADOWLAND"?!

Absolute travesty. I could put up with the movie if only they had done this one thing. Also "Chow Down" should've been in it. Because that song is amazingly horrifying but so good and they deserved a good villain song, especially since "Be Prepared" was butchered.

BIOGRAPHY:

Swynlake called Berlioz and Simba home about ten years ago now. They had a good few years in London. Simba worked as a preschool teacher and enjoyed every second of it. Berlioz established himself as an impressive music producer, enough to feel comfortable moving home. They even fostered a few more children when called upon for their services.

Eventually, it was time to return to Swynlake to raise their own family.

They packed up their dogs and their lives and came back to their cabin on Pinecone Lane. Soon after, they started the process for surrogacy. They found a lovely French woman--smart and sweet and pretty. They asked Nala to carry their baby, to which she eagerly agreed. Several months later, their daughter Soleil was born.

Their life has been charmed and sweet. With a plethora of dogs and children, both their own and fosters. Simba moved on from teaching to working as a social worker himself, wanting to be able to do more for displaced and abused children.

Simba and Berlioz had just started discussing the possibility of more children, though things were slightly more complicated now that Nala had a family of her own and wasn't available as a surrogate. But, Allah had a plan for them. And that plan came in the form of seven year old Daniel. Simba didn't know what it was about him, or his case, that tugged at his heart strings more than usual, but as soon as Daniel was placed in their care as a foster, Simba knew:

He was theirs.

Ber and Simba discussed it and agreed that they would start the adoption process. The adoption was approved almost exactly a year ago from this week. They are so happy to have their family coming from all over town for the gala (they have such a large on after all), as they can also celebrate the newest addition to their family.

Oh, and, of course, we can't forget their three golden retrievers: Beyonce, Elton, and Joni.
