Ever see the quote that reads, "Camping...where you spend a small fortune to live like a homeless person"? While the reference to homelessness is in poor taste, at the core of that quote are nothing but FACTS - camping requires financial investment. There's a laundry list of essential camping items that will be needed for your first (tent) camping experience and every few years you'll have to do inventory to replace certain items, as needed. As tent campers, the place that we blow the bank is the grocery store. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It got so bad that one year we decided that at least two of us go together to make sure the other didn't overshop and guess what? We bought MORE than we would have if we'd shopped solo. #Fail The only solution that even began to get us in check was advanced meal planning. Deciding upon a weekend menu helped us clearly see what grocery items were must-haves. It also helped us get creative in deciding on menus where several of the same ingredients could be used (e.g. chopped onions for breakfast potatoes, sliced onions for lunch cheeseburgers, and diced onions for dinner's steak) thereby giving us another great way to cut down on costs. Our special guest once again was our family member and neighbor Mr. Robert Middleton, you can hear him telling us about an experience involving Dr. Buzzard. Such an awesome experience❤ There were areas that were a little crowded but we AVOIDED those lol and wore mask as one should. We were mainly looking for the National Forest which we found one entrance but not the one we were seeking. Still a great experience. Scary drive at times, but I would do it again.
