Briefly:
The Europa demo was kind of disappointing and one of the rare demos that convinces me not to buy the full game. It's extremely pretty, but it feels as lifeless as it is pretty. I liked the premise for the story and world and was curious what would end up going on with that, but I feel like there just isn't really much to do? There's a reason the trailer only ever shows the character running/jumping/floating around and not interacting with anything else in any way, because at least in the demo there literally is almost nothing to do beyond that. Don't get me wrong, I like exploring interesting worlds and seeing what I can find, but this one feels pretty inert and like there's nothing you can actually do with it.
And then Dead Cells turns out to just not really be my thing. There's not even anything objectively wrong with it in the hour or two I played it. Actually it seems very well put together. I just personally don't vibe with some of the decisions they made, like I wish the jump was higher instead of feeling so heavy, and I wish I didn't have to keep climbing up to fairly low ledges, and actually I kind of wish climbing weren't a thing at all because I just don't like how it feels or that my character is magnetically attracted to every ledge and climbable object.
The combat also doesn't really click for me either. It seems perfectly fine but gives me an "ah, this game was made after Dark Souls" feeling, which doesn't really mesh very well with my charge in like an idiot with no plan and figure it out when we get there approach. I'm not here to do fancy parries and play cautiously and stuff, I'm here to go full chaos mode and hope my momentum carries me through before anything goes too wrong. There's a reason I got along better with stuff like Rogue Legacy back in the day, which I never did quite finish but had plenty of fun with for a while. It's the same reason I was a Vanguard in Mass Effect and mostly played Athena in TPS.
