Natural Mexican Matrix Cantera Multicoloured Boulder Fire Opal 3.0cts 🇲🇽

Cantera Opal is a gemstone formed from Rhyolite, which is a kind of igneous rock. When magma cooled on the earth surface, traces of gas and steam escaped from the stone, leaving cavities. Eventually, opal would form within these volcanic rock cavities, creating what we know as Cantera Opal.

In this colorful variety of fire opals, the luminous opal is fused with the surrounding host rock, the matrix, which often consists of reddish-brown ryolite (magmatic stone). Against the backdrop of the inconspicuous host rock, the whole splendor of the Fire Opal stratum unfolds. Their mostly fire-red to orange-yellow basic color reminds us of the glowing volcanoes in which the Mexican fire opals once formed. However, a fire opal matrix can sometimes appear almost transparent, giving us the impression of looking at the bottom of a clear lake through opalescent rainbow colors. Depending on the incidence of light, there is always a different picture. The infinite variety of formations can show shimmering miniature landscapes and magical images that cast a spell over our history. There are no limits to the fantasy of viewing a Fire Opal matrix. Therefore, this opal variety is also considered a symbol of cheerfulness and joy of life and is particularly popular with artists and creative people.

Today was a very good, productive day! Now you know why it took me so long to finish those pair of earrings. Not only was I being a perfectionist about details on them, I was also working on the two necklaces pictured. The pendant on the left is a bear walking over a boulder opal that made me think of a rushing stream. The necklace on the right is a snowy owl flying through a snowy sky (fused silver dust) with a moonstone dangling below. The earrings at the center have citrine at the center of the flowers and bumblebee jasper dangling below.
