A Bit Disappointed with the Latest Episode

I feel like it was, in the nicest way possible, badly written. It feels all OOOOH SHITTTT when you first watch it but you realise the obvious "Wait, the fuck is this" moments after a bit of time to ruminate.

What. Has. Happened?! The Titans were fast and quick to fight previously, and they knew what they were doing, but now they don't??? That yellow-green energy ball that knocked TTV down? He could've batted it away with his sword right back to where it came from the same as how TCam later bats away the purple-yellow energy with the entrapper arm.

Then TTV lunges for him midair. Dont??? You can lunge from behind or teleport your hands onto him??? Cut off his jetpack like you are actually smart instead of leaving it to TSpeaker later??? I don't this this is TTVs fault either, it was just written poorly.

Titan Speaker and Camera fight pretty greatly except for when the muscle mutant appears on his shoulder. Keep blasting and just take him off and crush him in your hand! The mutant is about the size of a Strider Toilet and in the VERY FIRST EPISODE that TCam debuted in he picks up a strider and crushes it with ease. Can't be much different here.

"WAIT!!! YOU NEED ME!!!!!" should've said that shit EARLIER before you were fried and stripped of your upgrades. A big toilet that can ram and shoot slow energy balls is of no use against the astros. Cringed hard at that

TTV is well able to core beam down the flying toilets with the cargo but not obliterate GT like he did to the Scientist??? The fuck??? DFB this needs improvement

I know this is very nitpicky but I didn't like TTV's face at the end. Should be a >:( or even a D:< in the VCR font but nope.

The Titans, as previously pointed out, are much slower compared to the previous few episodes. What's more, it just seems to a constant "Oh, my new guy is better" between the sides, except the Alliance hasn't been getting any improvement since TTVs return. Oh, now there's a secret agent which Fucking Gets your 2 Elites. You can't hurt him btw. Oh, now theres an overpowered Astro Toilet which can launch a titan that's caught in the mere blast radius. You can't hurt him btw. Oh, now GT is an indestructible hunk of meat that can be given the beating of a lifetime but still severely damages your titans and doesnt die. You can't hurt him btw. Ridiculous.

The jetpack he pulled out of his ass is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in the series. What the fuck??? This is like when kids play with eachother as their OC's and "Oh, you're about to kill mine, but it has a sudden get out of jail free card and there's nothing you can do". Fuck off. If more of this shit gets pulled the series is gonna jump the shark.

At this rate I think DFB is setting it up so that it's Secret Agent vs Astros vs Skibidis. Unless he gives us a new overpowered race or something, and j don't even want that. Have it be a fair but tough fight between them all.

Y'know, I started listening to The Magnus Archives because Julia Drawfee said she was listening but didn't start at the beginning cuz it was bad. Which meant I had to listen to the first episode, for morbid curiosity.

Personally I enjoyed the podcast from episode 1 but I understand the desire to skip filler eps so no hate to Julia or anyone else who didn't start at the beginning but...

Now that I'm on episode 121 I can't help but ask: if not the beginning where do people start? Squirm? After Prentiss? I'm so curious.

i kind of dig the way lip ended up as a failure. i know a lot of people hate what the show did to him, how he never lived up to his potential (the same way they do it to rory gilmore) but like. that happens. lifes just like that. sometimes people who have had everything to live with grandiosity end up ruining everything up, and lips life was HARD and it SUCKED so him failing its kind of expectable i think. and its not like lips life ended, mans not even 30 and hes not just smart hes a genius, he will end up turning the table and coming straight to the top, i believe so.

frank doesn't love his children. i know people like to think frank was somewhat nice sometimes and that he was troubled but he loved the gallaghers his own way but i dont think he really did. he didnt even knew them. he was just too selfish and a narcissist and not even once a "act of love" was genuine or didnt have a gain for him or was somewhat for his benefit or interest.

of all plots, i believe gay jesus was the worst. i tried to remeber every other plot of the show and dont get me wrong the frank and his buddy pal mickey oshea SUCKED and i love ian hes my favorite character but what the fuck was that. the idea is really nice but it took so long to convey this arc of mania of him and it just was really badly written and executed and later it doesn't have importance to the plot. no surprise cameron monaghan wanted to skip shameless after that.

gallavich is not a healthy goal relationship. i mean yeah, they do love each other and they are good to each other, and i will excuse them for all the shit they did as teenagers cause they seemed to forgive each other and grow from it and i dont think they knew best but as adults they dont fucking communicate and mick broke ians leg like common. also most of time ian just seems to regret having married mick is really frustrating. i genuinely dont understand how that happened cause gallavich was all the writes had to milk and serve for the last seasons and they still fucked it up.

debbie is a rapist. she just is. just like sheila is too, i believe, and frank, and mandy, and jody, and estefania (i dont think jimmysteve is tho). they practiced nonconsensual sex and thats rape, end of story. i know the deborah debate is kind of hot ground and everybody has a different opinion about it cause she was young and didnt have the proper sex ed. but she did it not once, but twice AFTER facing consequences and getting to educate herself about what she did and why that was wrong, and i believe she would do it again if she had the motivation like she did on those circumstances. not saying matty or derick were cool guys, fuck them, matty wanted to go out with an underage girl when he met debbie and he kept going out with her after knowing she was much younger than he first thought and derick know that having sex can lead to having a baby and he and his family should have tried to be better to franny, but still they didnt deserved to by lied and abused by deb.

the gallaghers house should be debbie and carl's to decide what to do. the house is in fionas name, that much is true, but it is clear they kept contact with fiona at the begging of season 10 as she calls debbie to know about freddie and at that hall of fame episode too, so that much wouldn't be a problem. also, as fiona left, she left debbie in charge of the house's finances, and i believe the responsibility of what to do with the house is left with debbie too. i dont think fiona would be thrilled with the wouse being sold but she moved on and if her siblings are up to moving on too i dont think she would be opposed to it. that said, she would let the house deed on debbies hand i believe. taking up the fact that debbie is a mom with a little child and no other place to live, the fact she doesnt want to sell the house is comprehensible and i dont think any other gallagher can say its not, even more so lip. they tried to make the decision voting, letting the majority determinate what to do, but i dont think thats fair since lip could very easily get a house to himself and ian and mickey too, they had the money. now, about carl, is simply cause he paid for the house, therefore he should had a say on it. season 6, when the house was going to be sold, no other Gallagher than fiona was really trying to make to money to buy it. when she couldnt, carl saved the day and gave the money, and fiona was reluctant but she had no other option than to accept it, otherwise they would lose the house. even though the house is in fionas name like she likes to make it very clear, it is carls, and if he wanted to he could have put it in someone elses name, not lip cause he's in debt cause of the credit cards he has gotten to pay college, but he could have made it ians or anyone elses. he didnt cause he respects family and he respects fiona. since the house is his, and he also didnt really had any other place like debbie, they both should make the decision together.

fiona fucking sucks. i know a lot of people hates her and a lot loves her, and theres people in here that knows shes middle ground just like basically everybody on the show, which is called SHAMELESS for a reason. and i can agree with everybody. my point here is that she did nice things and stupid things and i dont hate her or love her for them, nor do i think all is forgiven because of her trauma or that shes number one worst character of the show. i think she sucks, think that she was wrong for all the liam shit, that she is an agent of chaos, that she was a bad girlfriend for all of her boyfriends just like they were bad for her (except mike he rocks), i think she make some of them worst really; i understand her desire to grown and be someone but i think it was risky to put the gallaghers house on the line so she could open the laundry (even more so cause i dont really consider it hers but carls), i understand how at some point she wanted to grow and take care of herself and be less of an parent in her sibling's life cause if she took care of herself since she was nine i think her siblings could try and take care of each other and their own ass a little so she could start living but the way she didnt really helped ian, the way she shut down debbie and was sad when debbie shuted her down, the way she left carl to his white boy fase without as much as trying and the way she said to them put VERONICA and KEVIN first at their emergency call before her was insane and she should be dragged for it idc. she was always mean to her siblings romantic interests too and that really bugs me cause mandy put lip in college and mickey cared for ian.

lip fucking sucks. most people here think the similarity between lip and frank starts and finishes on alcoholism and appearance but i think its more than that, i think both of them are narcissistic motherfuckers. i cant think of a single time lip put effort in anything for any other reason than to satisfy himself. it is the most evident when you think about his relationships SPECIALLY tami and fred, but if you think about his desire to be a father, the way he treated fiona when she was down, the whole sierra fiasco and how he treated her sons daddy, the karen ian thing; he even said that he helps his alcoholic friends because he thinks that if they cant do it then certainly lip himself won't be able to do it. i cant hold ian to the same parameters, i only think deb fiona and carl are really there for each other but ian gets a pass cause hes just selfish to some extent. he is bipolar and shit went down when he was still a child; still, joining the army and sending no news was a dick move and when he was good and on his meds and working as an EMT i think he wasnt really there for his family, tho he cared for mandy. cant really say much cause most of the time he was out of himself or in jail.

the bowling episode & cat in the wall meta (deetress)

I think bowling is a turning point for dee. we got an insight into her mind and how significantly dennis affects her. importantly, she managed to defeat him. but rather than her victory being centred, as it previously would be, on her relationship with the gang, when she turns around, they arent there. she is unable to define her victory by their response. obviously this is painful for her, but it also demonstrates that she can now win without the gang's support. only the waitress was still there for her. the waitress, imo, represents a new path for dee. not away from the gang, because obviously that will never happen, but someone to rely on. her equivalent to mac and dennis or charlie and frank.

in mac and dennis break up, dee is shown to be the only member of the gang without someone to rely on. and so the episode about 'twosomes' and frienship ends with her alone, stuck in the wall. I think dee has been 'stuck in the wall' for a long, long time. obviously she is friends with the gang. but, charlie for example, can take being badly treated by mac for an episode and be fine because he has frank to rely on. even though mac and dennis have a more rocky relationship, they have never permanently left each other. in comparison, dee is badly treated by them but has no one to back her up. this must hurt for her because dennis is her twin, the one person who should be always on her side. and he is, in a way, but she must also battle against him. this season expanded upon her and frank's relationship, but he will always prefer charlie to her - the only one he thinks of as his child.

therefore dee is stuck in an odd group. she is 'stuck in the wall'. I think the waitress could be the only one to save her and get her out of the wall. the waitress, despite calling her ugly, stood up for dee against dennis. she chose dee against the man she once would do anything for. in that moment, dee had someone to rely on. the waitress also, similarly to the ireland episodes, represented her foil. she effortlessly stood up to dennis, whereas dee couldn't. she bested him physically (he literally broke his hand, numbers dont count) whereas dee couldn't. the waitress, perhaps, represents what dee needs most.

the reason they can start a new relationship as a (potential) 'twosome' is because the episode also marks a turning point for the waitress. the shift of her character from charlie's love interest/victim to dee's foil started in the ireland episodes. she manages to get the acting gig, pulls dee out of the bog and then sinks in her place, essentially unwillingly sacrificing herself for dee. their relationship was still harmful in the ireland episodes - they were taking from each other. but their mutuality was imo cemented in the bowling episode.

charlie is intentionally written as distracted and uninterested during his matches with the waitress. he talks to her casually, bothers her a bit but benignly, and runs off as soon as he can in order to do something else off screen. he now has his own life, off screen, away from her. in the same way she always had her own life separate from him. they are finally equal. I think this shows how the waitress isnt a significant part of charlie's life anymore.

on a meta level, the waitress is present in the episode because of her plot with dee, not because of a plot point with charlie. she is also willingly there and organised it herself, rather than being stalked or kidnapped or randomly showing up in ireland as if her life centres around the gang (which we know is not true). more importantly, if the gang hadnt intervened, dee would have spent time with the waitress without them. they have carved a space away from the gang together (even though dee was pushy about it). their relationship doesn't only exist within the context of charlie anymore.

the waitress has flourished with this change. she doesnt drink throughout the episode, has the funds to organise a bowling team, has friends, is making bowling shirts and is clearly working out (the kick). she is miles apart from where she was during charlie and dee find love.

bowling is proof that the waitress doesnt have to be stuck in her cycle of sobriety and addiction. she has successfully severed herself from charlie. charlie, along with her drinking, was a product of the stagnancy present in all sitcoms. no matter what happened in an episode, he would always keep stalking her and she would always start drinking again. but iasip has proved that its characters can transform (mfhp). and so I think her friendship with dee could be proof of a new direction for her. similarly, dee has been stagnant and 'stuck in the wall' since the show's beginning. she hasn't had anyone to pull her out. but the waitress, by standing up for her against dennis, is proof that this can change for her. dee can look outside of the gang, and have someone to rely on.

they can free each other.

i'm very biased toward the manga currently which is something i should put out on the table first, my experience with the anime is filtered through the lens of "do i like how they did this part from this manga", so my expectations for the anime at this point are "can it do justice to the source material" rather than Will it be better, which i think is probably the philosophy for fans behind a lot of adaptations. i don't think the anime adapts the manga poorly or unfaithfully, but because of its task of fitting an existing story into a limited amount of fully animated episodes of uniform length coming out at a specific schedule the pacing can feel a little bit jankier to me at times. i enjoy dungeon meshis worldbuilding and it has a lot of little interesting factoids and diagrams that you can take time as a reader to dwell on as tangents in the manga that they may gloss over very quickly if at all in the anime in the interest of time. this also might just be my overall impression because the anime hasn't adapted far enough that i've seen the transition where the plot really kicks in or some of the parts where dungeon meshi gets super compelling to me - i dont know yet how the anime will handle my most 'youve GOT to see dungeon meshi' parts of the manga. the rest is just more preferential stuff on my behalf. the anime can hit pretty 1:1 notes scriptwise to what is written, and while i dont personally feel the majority of the visual animation itself lends something life-altering to this story most of the time, i do think some of the full animation sequences are a real treat to look at, and i enjoy what they did with chilchuck in particular for some reason. i dont think youd 'err' too badly as a viewer by going the anime route if that's what clicks best with you. also in the anime english dub if you happen to watch that senshi seems to say stuff like 'work that sucker' multiple times and i just want to tell you thats not ttrue.

and her naming her prosthetic 'kenny' is fucking stupid

ive seen some people say that it would actually be an interesting comic if clem was removed from the story but i dont agree. its fucking lame and boring. i love the zombie setting for the stories it allows a writer to tell. for the emphasis on character it allows. and this is probably the most boring piece of zombie related media ive ever laid my eyes on. this definitely feels like it was written by a romance writer trying to figure out how the zombie setting Works as a storytelling device. with a beloved preexisting character that theyre Also trying to find the voice of. and we're watching it in real time. and its Painful.....

S4 will Always be the True end to clementines story. its too perfect. and it also marked the end of telltale. it was a love letter to the series. its very fitting for both clem as a character but also as a last goodbye from a beloved studio. the still not bitten teams signatures on the hallway walls always gets a sob outta me. that final goodbye... clem was meant to spend the rest of her days at ericsons with the community she helped cultivate. ive said it a million times but her losing her leg is Symbolic. the first episode isnt titled "done running" for no reason. clem never Liked being on the road. all she ever wanted was a safe place to call home. with people she trusted and loved. and now the comics are retconning all of that just to retell the same story but Badly. why should i give a shit about that?

whats unfortunate is that i DO think there are still things that could be explored with a post S4 clem. shes got what she wanted: a home. (relative) safety. community. however she has new limitations due to her injury. how would she adjust to this? after spending so many years on the road? after having to do so much independently? only having herself to rely on for the most part? these are the goals im trying to achieve with my own short little fic (that ive been working on for too long):

she would never Want to leave ericsons. home is what shes been looking for since S1. but now that shes Safe. now that she can turn off survival mode a little bit and actually Relax for once. shes going to begin Processing EVERYTHING shes been through up until this point. the true healing starts Now. but she cant run from it. so how would she reconcile these things? the whole point of ericsons was that they were a community of traumatized kids who found love and support in each other when they had nothing else. aj says it himself (S4 is Very clear in its messaging). THAT is the perfect setting for clem to ALSO have this grieving/acceptance process that she Desperately needs. everything shes been through up until this point is going to hit her like a truck. the true healing starts NOW. shes no longer fighting for her life 25/8. and when the brain can get out of survival mode it begins True processing mode.

one of the issues with the comics is that it puts her BACK into survival mode. but of clems own choosing! no matter how much her processing hurts and no matter how much she could want to run from those feelings, she has always wanted True Community more than Anything. having to reconcile those feelings is interesting! i Do think tillie is trying to have some of these conversations. but they all fall flat. her understanding of clem as a character is weak. and the environment shes in is not conducive to the healing process she wants clem to have. its a mess. i will always stand firmly in the camp that these comics should have taken place in the gap between seasons 3 and 4. that change alone wouldve boosted the comic. but unfortunately they chose.....This

TL;DR: My brain is stupid, which is why I can't do this, even though it makes sense and is logical.

Unfortunately the fanfiction is what often makes the original fiction possible, or more enjoyable.

If I lock myself down into too much schedule and rigidity, or if I only focus on writing for money, I actually start to hate writing, even if I love the stories. There is nothing like 'will this earn money, do people like this, would people pay, what if they all decide to stop paying for this, why would they pay for this, would I pay for this, how much would people pay for this, is there any incentive for them to pay for this, actually if I wrote a ton of different tropes maybe I'd make more for this, but that's depressing, but I need the money, shit what do I do, what if I lose my income, what if it all stops tomorrow, I need to write more, I need to write more, I need to write more' that is actually very exhausting and makes writing not much fun at all.

And to deliberately break out of that headspace as much as possible, I write fanfiction. Because that headspace (the one I wrote about above), on its own, even if I'm only writing two stories, can and has led to burnout and depressive episodes. I don't recommend it.

In a way, one of the reasons I can write so many stories right now (ADHD meds aside) is that I am letting myself break out and just have fun with fanfiction, and remember that my original writing is meant to be fun too. But without fanfiction, I lose sight of that very quickly.

Fanfiction means that when an original story chapter does super badly, generally there are still excited comments elsewhere that keep me going. That's how I survived The Ice Plague, and that story would never have been completed without fanfiction, because that was my worst performer of any story I've ever written. It also means if a lot of subscribers leave at once, I don't feel like The Worst Writer In The World. So having fanfiction behind me was like...a literal safety net or my security blanket.

If I have to discard my security blankets or use them less often in order to keep writing the original stuff, I might as well just stop entirely, because my longest hiatuses from Patreon (i.e. one lasted 1.5 years, many have lasted 4-6 months) have been when I'm mostly just writing original fiction, and am not writing much fanfiction, or not deliberately finding time for it, and finally get so stressed out re: money I literally have to stop. I'm on a (partial) Disability Pension.

A long time ago some professional people told me I probably shouldn't be working at all because of my mental illnesses and then paid me money because of the severity of those mental illnesses. My dumbass brain be pretty fragile, actually, and keeps chugging away because I make bad business decisions and write stuff I enjoy instead of writing to market, or doing rapid release, or releasing more novels (or novels). Writing does ironically help when I'm stressed, but not when I'm stressed about making money because of writing.

I will cut at my income before I cut at my love of this job, and unfortunately fanfiction keeps me going in this job, which means I can't really cut at that first.

(Also from a business perspective, it's actually a very good funnel to the original stuff and then subscription. Most of you wouldn't be here if you hadn't read one of my fanfics first and then gave the original stuff a try - I try not to think about that too much because I need fanfic to not be about money, but the fact is, I would not have this career without fanfic).

I do have plans to take two weeks off in January from posting chapters (I can still post rewards in the second half of January) and that's not too far away.

And the reality is that I probably would have kept going okay if real life hadn't imploded on top of everything like the world's worst bukkake party.

I have two sins that somwhat cohenside:

As a Cole stan for life I despise the Cole is gay HC and have had to abandon the tag because of its prevalence. Lavashipping is a NOTP and of all the art and edits I've seen polluting my Cole tag I still cant see any chemistry or dynamic between them besides they are both attractive. All the ninja ships are incest vibes (not just the gay ones. Looking at you Braincellshipping) to me as they treat eachother and call eachother brothers but at least there was tension and chemistry between the old days of Bruiseshipping. Lava's prevalence online had me quit for a long time as I couldnt understand why it randomly gained such traction and then showrunners made the dumb idea to try and bait fan perceptions in crystalized. I see cole as somewhat aromantic (although the term is mostly meaningless and used to describe anyone who is uncmfortable or disinterested with romance without analysing the deeper psychological reasons that might be the case) but he obviously wants to be a father and I don't see how any of his defined traits attribute to being the fans gay stand in besides the fact that fandom always has the urge to pick one to be the LGBT mascot and create content that isnt there simply for their own self indulgence. I like Coliel (if anyone remembers Seliel) as it leans into Coles obliviousness to advances while it shows off his honorable and protective personality. I don't find Cole particularly coded LGBT in any of the seasons up until Dragons rising, which the episode focussing it was badly written and OOC.

My other "sin" I suppose is I disown ALL of DR for being a horrible soft reboot that does everything a soft reboot shouldn't: messing with preestablished lore in an attempt to prop up these random new characters as just, if not more, powerful than our protagonists. The new writer has a horrible track record with character ensemble shows like TMNT 2012 and its a worthless slap in the face continuation of an ended series. The diologue is horrendously tacky and most jokes dont land. The push by the writers to add in fan characterizations and expand the lore beyond whats established is lazy and uninspired. There is so much left to explore in Ninjago the way it was. We never went to most of the continent but why try to write compelling stories and dramas with an already defined map when you could throw everything out the window and make your own sandbox, shoehorning it into Ninjago regardless on how ridiculous it looks and feels.

there is nothing wrong with not HCing cole gay, especially if you seem him on the aro/ace spectrum. I'm in the exact same boat. And just because there are very prevalent gay interpretations of the text does not mean you have to adopt them, or watch them with that subtext in mind. The true potential episode can obviously really easily be read as a coming out allegory, and a lot of people have latched onto that. And good for them!

But it's just as easily read as a story about defying your parent's expectations for a career path- especially if that's something you can relate to. I think the episode works even better in that respect (cuz that's kinda more directly what it's about, but also) because it adds in this layer of also respecting the place where your parents came from and make their living with. Honestly, I didn't see any gay coding on my first watch through of that one dragons rising episode. I saw Cole's relationship with Geo as much more of a mentor/mentee thing, probably because he's typically taken on a father role. I thought Geo and Sora had more chemistry honestly, with that one scene where their bonding over rejection. That's the beauty of media, multiple interpretations! It sounds like you're letting the fandom color your viewing experience, and that's your problem. The crystalized kai/cole stuff can just as easily be read as brother shenanigans. Don't let fanon make things canon for you if you don't want them to.

I'm on the same page of not shipping the core 4 together. The early seasons were directly focused on their brotherhood in my view, so I get it. But, let's not begrudge people their imaginary LGBTQ rep. As far as I understand lavashipping took off cuz it's the only gay pairing of the main characters who could still potentially be canonically shipped together. Jaya and pixane are pretty set in stone, and lloyd is pretty much off limits. But kailor is very iffy in canon, and cole has never had a love interest. And even if I don't ship it, I can see the value of people having some level of hope that the show might give them some rep. But again, none of this means you have to ship it or feel bad for not shipping it.

Second, you've got some unique opinions on dragons rising. Cool. I don't think you're completely invalid or anything, but I do think some of these opinions might be a little biased?

You're mad it brought back the... finished tv show? The show that finished with crystalized? The worst possible ending of the show? Honestly, it wasn't that much more conclusive than other seasons. Ninjago has always struck me as an evergreen property- a world with endless adventures in it. To begrudge future stories for existing seems a little selfish to me. Ninjago should be a property that new kids can get into for years to come. I've got some problems with what dragons rising has done. I don't think the merge was the best way to go. I hate how needlessly small it makes everything feel. I think sora is a little too chosen-one-y. There are things to criticize here. But it's pulling a lot off. I think it's balanced screen time between old characters and new characters pretty well. It's established a fairly unique identity for itself, which can be a real struggle for sequel content. Again, I think you're coming into it with a distorted fandom lens which is making you hate it more. Not to say that you're wrong, but you're feelings associated with your opinions may be a little exaggerated.

funniest part i just read from a review is that hazbin hotel "woobified" alastor, like can we not tell the difference between establishing character motivation and making a character overly sympathetic? the reveal that alastor is also bound by a contract being followed up by threatening and undermining husk i think is meant to imply alastor is. bad. i think we're meant to get the impression alastor is manipulative and evil. i think alastyr getting fucked up in the finale right after an episode where alastor explicitly tells charlie smiling is a tool to make yourself appear stronger is like. meant to drive home a point that alastor is a fucked up guy who enjoys levying power over those around him because he's actually weak and powerless and he's willing to claw his way into power with whatever underhanded tactic he likes to free himself with clear disregard for others. i think that's the point of the fucking character.

they also noted that they disliked the whole radio vs video think but like, i think that also has a purpose. like yes, the song is just about vox and alastor having their little back and forth. but i think the main point is that alastor is here to fuck up the status quo, vox has established order and stability and alastor is going to change that. it's like. i dont think this is abt ego i think its about alastor being establish as a villain. because he is. hebis not here to do good things.

the only thing i disliked abt alastor is umgg the voodoo stuff and the resemblence to a w*ndigo because yeah, wow, that's bad!! they should have changed that!! but also, the fact alastor ends up taking up all the characterisation leaves very little for the rest of the cast who should have been more of the focus i think. u would think the plot cares about the HOTEL because it's the HAZBIN HOTEL but instead it ends up being about this overbranching stuff and that's just too much for an 8 ep season man.

anyways the real crime is everything to do with angel dust because yes we all knew he was going to be written badly but it still sucksss it sucks so muchh. he needed far more time for development but instead he gets barely anything.

I think the writers have set themselves up with the way they’ve written rhaenyra so far because the terrible actions rhaenyra does once the dance begins dont really make sense for the current character theyre writing her to be? There is no build up to her being a brutal ruler, so far she seems more like she’ll a passive ruler who lets everyone else do things for her. Wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to make it so she doesn’t know about some of the events that take place before they happen.

You know, I agree with @sanktasansa I don't think Rhaenyra will do anything terrible unless Alicent does something terrible first. That's why Daemon killed Vaemond without Rhaenyra ordering it. In that episode, Alicent didn't really do anything villainous so Rhaenyra didn't do anything either. Since Alicent won't order the execution of people during the war, Rhaenyra wouldn't do the same. No heads lining the gates, at least not in her orders. Daemon will do everything while she stands there. When Rhaenyra loses control over the city, it'll be a sad terrible thing that happens to her that she didn't directly cause it.

That's a problem because this is war. The Starks were undeniably good people but they got blood on their hands. They didn't just remain boring, saintly creatures before their unfair deaths. They fought and killed and kept fighting after that. That made them compelling.

Rhaenyra will probably follow the path set out for her in the books- meaning no battles (because Alicent won't fight either). Her children will die, the war will go badly for her, Daemon will leave her for a child, and then her brother, who she hasn't spoken to once, will kill her.

The worst thing that a female character could be is incompetent. Something Alicent won't suffer from because at least we have moments where she's ruling in Viserys' behalf and she's trying to raise a dysfunctional family. During the war, Alicent will be the face of the Greens, not Aegon meaning she'll automatically have more things to do without a male character stepping in and doing them for her (see the contrast between Alicent's relationship with the men in her life vs Rhaenyra and Daemon (probably Jace too)).

So yeah, Rhaenyra has been set up to fail. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but even Daemon has become a shell of his former self over the course of one season so I don't have high hopes for Rhaenyra.
