miragehound timeloop fic. setup: the games are a sort of VR, and Mirage took some sort of nasty head wound while inside. Nobody is quite sure what happened, but it appeared that the system was repeating itself indefinetly till it just ... stopped and he was kicked out. the glitches that trapped him also made playback impossible
From bloodhound's perspective, he's been acting strange since then. A little too active in conversations where he would normally meander around to his point. A little too "happy to help" if by that you meant, claiming all the work load for himself and doing it with the practiced ease of someone who doesn't care too much about the outcome. And most of all; staying closer than usual to Bloodhound through it all.
While not a bad thing, they come to find they like his company actually; it's incredibly odd. And it must lead back to that little timeloop he suffered, right? Hound attempts to use their newfound friendship with the man to pry what happened out of him. He only says that his brain was stuck on a particular thought and once he acknowledged it, he was free. They start making guesses, until they, out of options ask "Be honest, did you kill me in the timeloop?" and he gets upset. and finally admits that he confessed he'd fallen in love with them instead.

About Will
Last year the Duffers said that in S5 Will takes center stage again, and now they're even telling us how the season starts, with the flashback of Will in the UD. That's why I think the reveals about him should be huge, like the ones about Henry and El in S4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This makes me happy. Will and his story are my favorite thing, and I have so many questions.
Was Will really just in the wrong place at the wrong time, a random victim who later became the brother of Vecna's actual target, Eleven?
Maybe. But I'll be honest, I think this would be disappointing. Most of the audience already believes that. All these years, all the mystery surrounding Will, and in the end it was just to hide Vecna, who was introduced in S4, so when we see S5 it's not even a plot twist anymore? Hm.
There could be an interesting parallel with Henry winding up in Dimension X tho. Wrong place at the wrong time. But Henry developed powers. What about Will, who ended up in the UD? Also, if he was just in the wrong place, why did they make his abduction so different from all the other attacks? It's just because it was the first one and they wanted it to be cool? Again, disappointing, imo. And if the reason was just "make the scene cool", I don't know why in other seasons they kept making parallels between the Demogorgon opening the Byers' door, something it only does in 1x01, and El opening a LOT of doors with telekinesis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's more likely that Will's flashbacks in S5 will be like El's flashbacks in S4. They made us believe that Eleven killed all the other numbers, only to reveal later that it's not what really happened. I expect something like that for Will too. Maybe at first, everything seems to confirm that he was just a random victim, and then we find out that it's not true. Or he was a random victim, but then, like Henry, he developed psychic abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of that
Does Will have powers or not?
I am a Will-has-powers truther, this is not a mystery lol. But does it make sense in the story? (some thoughts here) Does he have powers like Harry Potter, or the Turtle (here), or Bastian, or he's like Peter Bishop, Marty McFly and Frodo Baggins? Noah said that Will's superpower is his heart, but you know, you can have that and also powers. Plus, in S4 they connect the concept of time travel to emotions, so if there's a timeloop or something like that, and Will's name is on the grandfather clock...
Maybe his abilities are different from anything we've seen. Maybe something more connected to the UD. I'm just saying, why making him a wizard/cleric, if he's just a normal kid?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For example, they never really explained why he's still so connected to Vecna and, I suspect, the UD (because he is also like Radagast, and the kid in Poltergeist, who gets kidnapped because of her powers) Yes, Max seems to have answered that question: when Vecna makes a psychic connection, you are marked. In fact, at some point she even says that she can still feel him. But when she's in his mind lair, she doesn't feel his thoughts. She says that he was surprised and didn't want her there... but he actually says that. Also, they would really answer the questions about the big mystery of Will's connection to Vecna like that, when he's not even the focus of the scene?
Tumblr media
That's why I think the answer is more complex for him. Max can't feel Vecna's thoughts or feelings, Will can, like Harry can feel Voldemort. Could the reason be that he was connected to the hive mind? We can't be sure, he's the only one who survived a possession. There are no particles left in his body (as far as we know) or he would've died in S2. So, why is the connection still there and so strong, that the moment he's back in Hawkins, he can feel that Vecna is hurting and wants to destroy everything?
Tumblr media
Why in S2 Will knows that the evil wants to kill everyone but him? And why would Vecna/Mind Flayer want to kill everyone but a random kid with no powers, whose only ability was to hide from a monster for a week? Henry Creel considered all the lab kids, people with powers, inferior to himself and Eleven, but for some reason he wanted a sensitive child who's just good at hiding? It doesn't make sense to me.
Tumblr media
In the game, they seem to give us the answer. Well, they don't explain if Will was just in the wrong place at the wrong time on Nov 6, but they say that the reason he is the key and Vecna wants him, is that he wants to use him to find Eleven.
Tumblr media
Ok
If this is true... Henry/Vecna needed Eleven to open a door, so he makes her make a psychic contact with a Demogorgon. When the gate opens, he lets the creature kidnap/kill random people. Then realizes that he can find Eleven, if he uses the only victim he is letting hide in the UD because, reasons. But when she finally is in the void with Will, instead of killing her, he interrupts the contact with Will, goes to Castle Byers, takes him to the library, and impregnates him with a little Demogorgon. And then? What would've happened if Joyce hadn't found Will? We still don't know if the tendril was killing him or giving him oxigen, like the facehugger does in Alien (the parallel with Sarah could be a hint tho), because we don't know what happened to Barb. If she died in the pool and then was taken to the library, or if it's the tendril that killed her.
Tumblr media
If Will was actually dying, then the answer in the game doesn't make sense. If Vecna just wants to use him to find and kill Eleven, he wouldn't have tried to kill him. Unless that whole process was supposed to turn Will into Zombie Boy, a creature of the UD, similar to Vecna, who could find Eleven. That's a bit complicated, tho.
Not to mention the whole possession in S2. Again, let's say that Vecna didn't want to kill Will in the library, but just turn him into a monster. He failed. So, when Will is home, he makes him have visions, then possesses him, with the intent of killing everyone but him. Because he wants him to find and spy Eleven. But in the 1959 flashback, in TFS, and in the game, we see that Henry can read any mind. So, sorry but why does he need Will, specifically, to find Eleven?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, if the particles can just possess you in a vision and then appear in our world, why didn't they possess more people? Easier to find El, and even if you lose Will, you still have the others. It's what the Mind Flayer does in S3. The big difference? In S3 the particles are already in our world.
So I wonder if Will is the only one Vecna/Mind Flayer can possess like that, because they were already connected before the possession
Tumblr media
Ok, in S3, the Mind Flayer takes a guy named William because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And then he uses him to build a monster that finds Eleven and takes her powers. So, maybe the 'wrong place, wrong time' is true, but the rest... is interesting. Jonathan says that they built Castle Byers the way Will drew it, and MindFlayer!Billy tells Billy to build what he sees. Also interesting that there are two Billies. It reminds me of If I go there will be trouble, and if I stay it will be double (different timelines, twin imagery, Henry and Edward, Richard and Martin. And Will and Eleven?)
So, my theory is that Will and El are more connected than it seems, and that's why Vecna needs Will. And maybe he is also using him to "build" his army, and make the UD spread? I don't know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But for all these reasons, I think it would make more sense if Will wasn't just a random victim, or at least he's developed some ability.
Will has parallels with Cerebro (here) and Nancy says that the lights came to life when he was in the UD, a parallel to what Steve says in S3, (Let there be light) after Will senses the Mind Flayer for the first time at the mall. When he's watching a zombie movie. There's also that beautiful theory (I don't remember who posted it, sorry) about Will being connected to the light particles and using them to destroy the black particles of the Mind Flayer.
Light particles that look like fairy dust -> Will being called fairy. Lights that come to life -> a battery
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I've found some big hint that this theory might be correct. Anyway, it seems that Will is connected to the very existence of the UD. Not saying he created it, but if lights came to life when he was there, maybe if they interrupt the connection, that place, whatever it is, will cease to exist.

Conversation
Chloe, Enver and Clark at The Laugh Track
Question: I have a question for Enver. You got to bring back your character from Agent Carter but in a setting that was very much a Dollhouse setting, along the same people. Did it kinda feel like returning to the best of both worlds joining the show?
Clark: Say yes, Enver, say yes!
Enver: It was better, it was better.
Clark: *cheers*
Enver: No, it was, it was—One of the really cool things about joining the cast was, Jed and Maurissa made it clear that they didn’t wanna just reprise Sousa from the moment that he left the show. That they wanted to go ahead and see, like, some time had passed, and he had continued to advance in the ranks and with his skills. They wanted to see more of a super agent, they wanted Daniel to be a little further along, and—
Clark: That’s what they got, people!
Enver: So that was fun because I got to have the best of both worlds. I got to continue that character in a way that trajectory would’ve gone if Agent Carter had gone on. And also, when I collected Marvels when I was a kid, I loved the What If comics. I don’t know if you guys remember the What If comics. This felt like such an amazing What If, you know? What if Daniel Sousa joined the cast? And, yeah, so I thought it was such a blast.
...
Chloe: It has to be the most rewarding part of the show, is having probably one of the most dynamic relationships with someone in my life in that relationship with Clark. Where it mutates, and there’s so much growth, and there’s so much openness, and there’s so much respect. I don’t think most people get the privilege of having such a dynamic relationship that you can’t quite put it into any sort of box of “it’s this, it’s that, it’s that.” And it’s only something that you would get in an environment like S.H.I.E.L.D., so that’s, it’s just—
Clark: That and the stuff with Enver.
Chloe: That and Enver. A kiss! They’re happy together, I’m a big Dousy fan, come on!
...
Clark: And, of all the other things, and [Elizabeth] also really brought home the first weird little moments of the ship between you and Sousa in a way that felt completely unforced. And that was the hardest beat, I think, to do, it’s, is this a thing? And I thought she killed that too. You guys helped some, but she really, really...
Chloe: That was! It’s a really hard line to walk of, “okay, so we have to buy this and by the middle of this episode, they are kissing.” And how do we not only have Daisy understand each timeloop and process that she did a timeloop, and every single thing, there’s also, at the same time, she had to be kind of falling for Sousa. So my brain was fried, thank god she was there, it was crazy.
...
Question: I wanted to ask, basically for Chloe and Enver, about the future of Daisy and Sousa. No one had to wind up with each other at the end of the show, but how do you feel about them coming together at the end? It looks like that relationship could work. Daisy, to say the least, has had a lot of bad luck in that arena, and it took almost getting a guy out of time, or a partner out of time, to be somebody who she was comfortable with, and she could have a future with. What are your opinions about their relationship and their future as galactic explorer representatives of humanity?
Chloe: Great question! I’ll be honest, I was a little hesitant about a love interest just because I felt like her narrative was about finding herself and her family, and the real relationship was with Coulson and with the S.H.I.E.L.D. family and, you know, independent woman. And this one snuck up on me as Chloe as much as it did with Daisy, I think. And, it’s one of those things where you go, “oh, she needed this!” Like in a way that’s not, she didn’t need a man, that she needed the way that he complements her so well. It just, it felt perfect for the ending for her. In a way that just, I can’t, exactly, it took a man out of time to kind of really come in and complement her in a way that she’s totally taken off guard by, and I think that’s the only way that something for Daisy was ever gonna happen. And Enver did that. You did it so well! You did so well that I’m processing it ten times more now watching it than even like on the day, it’s so great. Enver, what do you think?
Enver: I... there’s so many parallels right now, you know, that something comes in the world and just like smashes everything that you knew, you know? And then you're sailing forward into a completely unknown universe, right? And so we’re, more than ever, actually, I feel like somehow these writers were a little bit ahead of it. Like, you know, cause I was like, wait, okay, so Sousa came out of time and now we’re going in... It feels appropriate, it feels appropriate. It feels like this thing, for my character, get pulled out of time, smashed into a new reality, and now everything’s just like, okay, so let’s do this now, you know? It’s real life, you know, things, you know, some things happen and you adjust and you sail into the future, into some unknown future. I love it, I love it, I think it’s absolutely beautiful. And I also think, this is why I like sci-fi, you get to imagine things that don’t exist. Here’s this new dynamic between the two of them, and we get to create our own future now. So I loved it.
Chloe: It was great, it was so special. For her to, I think she kinda, I feel like right when she settles into who she is, who her family is, the history of her, be it losing her family, settling into her powers, understanding of what being powerful means, that’s she’s like, I know myself and then, BAM! This guy comes in and I think it was the perfect way to end it for Daisy, so, very special.

The Run and Go by Numanum
“That’s not fair,” Bad protests. Dream raises an eyebrow at him and jerks his tied hands in emphasis, clearly saying that none of this is fair.
“Look, you keep running! Who runs if they’re not guilty?” Bad challenges, staring him down with obvious distrust from the generous distance of exactly five feet. It’s fair, as much as Dream hates to admit it; it’s not like he’s been the most honest hostage in the past, with all of his escaping and running and framing himself for his own murder, apparently.
“Only the good die young, and only the guilty run,” Technoblade chimes in, holding his own potato and sitting in the snow like it’s not cold at all.
A hot flash of irritation burns through him.
“Someone being chased?” he counters sarcastically, jerking his tied wrists up again to wave them in front of the group. Sapnap laughs so hard that he almost chokes on his potato, but it dies off when Dream gives him an icy stare.

Once upon a time, there was a king in the forest.
He wore a mask, but it didn’t matter. That deep in the forest, in a hidden fortress, buried behind leaves and monsters and broken stone, no one could see his face anyway. He had been there a very long time, and he was alone.
Being a king can be a very lonely thing. So one day, the king left the fortress.

Time stopped.
Tommy’s entire body went numb. He tried to open his mouth to say something, but his body was determined to keep him silent. His vision went dark, and he could no longer feel his headphones over his ears. The mouse in his hand. The slight breeze of his ceiling fan. For a few seconds, he couldn’t feel anything.
His senses came back to him all at once. The first thing Tommy noticed was the weight in his right hand -- a bow. His nostrils stung with the lingering scent of gunpowder. In front of him was a masked figure. Their right arm was bent, their elbow by their face. In their left hand was a bow, aiming directly at--

It’s another gorgeous day in New L’Manberg. Tubbo’s stilted streets of deep toned spruce and honey-touched oaks are warm under his feet from the sun, and a sign and a small banner proclaim the country’s name in front of his face. Wilbur is so happy to let the ‘L’ roll of his tongue as he says it, ‘Manberg’ was harsh and too guttural, but the two extra syllables make it something that could fit on a melody, a four-note beat he could set the pace of his unbeating heart to.
The citizens of New L’Manberg track him with cautious eyes at first, until Tubbo changes his eyes to slightly sad ones, listening along to Wilbur’s rambles, warming up to the truly soot-grey sight of his face and sunshine yellow of his ever-present sweater. The rest of the population soon follow, laughing at Wilbur’s strange innocence and telling him what he’s done with only a little bit of spite in a pitying mask and fixing their mouths in a line when he suddenly forgets what he’s doing or stares into space or laughs at nothing.
But all the people who get sad when Wilbur starts laughing after shock-still silence are dumb.

What would everyone think of king Afton?
Tumblr media
After many years of the animatronics killing nightguards, they finally caught William and killed him. But as you know from my ask about Goldie and Cassidy, Cassidy lied saying it wasn't him. When humans found out the animatronics were sentient, they locked all animatronics underground, including all the nightguards that were stuffed. Which meant Afton was still around to mess with the animatronics and the dead kids. When animatronics started getting the hang of having a society, springtrap (as how he went by in his suit. It became common among stuffed humans to make up names for themselves instead of using their human names) became the town nuisance. He basically caused trouble just get reactions, everyone just ignored him and pissed him off.
A few years later, about a week after Golden Freddy's and Cassidy's death, the guards were waiting for orders from king Fazbear, Bonnie was subcoming to guilt and depression seeing the situation with Goldie and Cassi as his fault, the Marionette was mourning the death of another child in her room, and Freddy was in his palace thinking. He honestly didn't know how to feel in the moment of their deaths, so he just kept thinking about it knowing the should feel something, like sad or angry.
Springtrap snuck inside the palace, almost too easily. When he was sneaking in, a human fell down. Freddy went to investigate, with springtrap following behind in the shadows. The human that fell sorta looked like Cassidy, except she had gold blonde hair, but that was the only difference. It was like the world wanted to play a joke on Freddy, "hey look!!! A little girl that looks like both of your now dead friends!!! Isn't that funny?!!?!" How dare the world. Before he could even think, all the feelings he should have felt flooded through him, the sadness of loosing the people he loves, the guilt of being unable to prevent their deaths, and the anger towards humanity for killing people he held close to his soul. Without thinking, he projected his anger towards humans on the child, and mercilessly killed her.
He was brought back to his senses when William started laughing and applauding the show before him. Freddy then attacked him, nearly killing him before realizing in this moment he was no better than him. After this realization, he declared war on humanity. The Marionette ran away back to the ruins never to be heard from again, and springtrap was made into the new royal adviser. Freddy hired him as royal adviser in hopes that maybe Afton could teach him to be more merciless.
The only reason why he was so merciless as a killer was because Chara made him think he was insane, and he was a player's puppet. He lived his own life so many times, why would it matter if he killed people if he knew they were going to be fine when he wakes up yesterday? Now Chara became dormant, and the players stopped controlling him. Kinda ironic how he's now feeling powerless despite now having complete control of his body.
He began to feel regret for everything his done. The many people he's killed, the many people he let stay dead. He was no longer above his actions. He was no longer above consequences. This made him fall into despair and depression.
After years of being royal adviser, Freddy gave him a title of king, trusting him enough to rule beside him as brothers. After he was crowned, him and Fazbear became closer, like actual brothers.
But they had disagreements, like all siblings do. Except their disagreements had to do with life and death. Freddy would argue with Afton over killing humans, he'd say that he needed to kill humans and collect their souls in order to set them all free. Afton would argue saying that everyone had already suffered enough, and that more children didn't deserve to die. When ever human children fall down and leave the Marionette's protection in the ruins, he would try and protect the children from Freddy, in hopes that he might be able to talk him out of killing them. Usually the kids flat out give up and let themselves be killed. Afton stopped trying to protect the kids after a 5 year old gave up her life to Fazbear.
King Afton, with the help of doctor Bonnie, removed his suit, and rebuilt Springbonnie and Fredbear. Fredbear remembered how Afton used spring for murder, but thankfully Springbonnie didn't remember how he was used. He didn't even remember the surface, he just knew who he was, who his brother Fredbear was, and that Afton was one of the people that made him. Afton talked with Fredbear privately about how times had changed from 1987 to now, when Fredbear was shut down to when he was rebuilt. Fredbear didn't remember the bite of 87, and his memories of the surface weren't any better. All he remembered was kids, the layout of the diner, and the stars he'd look at out the window.
Once Afton explained everything, leaving out the bite incident, Fredbear to forgive the poor corpse for everything he's done. He didn't trust him, he just forgave him. Fredbear and Springbonnie then left Afton's room where they were rebuilt and started living their own lives.
This Afton is a more forgivable, and melancholy version of Afton.
What would everyone in your AU think of King Afton?
First up, very interesting take, though now all the pressure of the “why did you kill” are put on Chara. The concept of Afton getting EXP from stuffing children into suits is wrecking me with laughter to be fully honest- this man must be buff- Everyone is a big number, but I can give you three main people, I think.
Marionette hates him- like all Williams. He doesn’t believe in redemption; he doesn’t believe in the concept of regret. Nobody ever regretted what happened to him, thus regret must be a hindering emotion at best- a liability at worst. Useless and hurtful. This William is pathetic! How can you go around killing children because of some fucking spirit?! And then being all regretful about it, as though it makes a difference?! Devaluing these murders even MORE! How much must he hate these children that he admits openly that his murders were pointless and soulless and now after decades something he would be taking back?! HOW DOES THAT HELP?! WHO?! HE DOESN’T DESERVE PITY. AND YOUR FREDDY, HE SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM FOR GOOD! SO WHAT IF YOU ARE “EQUALLY” AS BAD?! IF TWO WRONGS MEET AND ONE KILLS THE OTHER, THEN WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE RIGHT! There is nothing more appalling to him than regretting the evil deeds, because then you say you did those evil deeds out of weakness and selfishness and nothing else came from it. Marion doesn’t regret killing the guards. Marion DOESN’T regret killing the guards! (My Marionette would make a much more ruthless ruler of the underground than both William and Freddy combined…) Fredbear is actually somewhat happy. He feels terrible for everything that happened until then and that the Marionette had to leave home because of William returning and becoming an advisor- and of course, he’s agonizing about the fact that another child had to die. But in the end, there’s some reassurance in William just being another puppet, suffering the circumstances and now working for redemption. The children are still here in some way after all, with this new technology- once it is perfected, everyone can live the life they wanted. All he hopes is that William will be a force of good this time around and for good this time. He shouldn’t have crumbled to the timeloop, but… … things like that are mindbreaking, certainly. Not being yourself is extremely scary. And how can you be sure you ARE yourself? If he would have the chance to say anything to Afton, then it’s to not give protecting the children. They need you. They need someone to stand up for them. No matter how pointless it seems or how often you fail, continuing to try is what matters. Stay determined. You owe them this after all- you have proven your ability to use what’s inside of you for destruction, make sure that it will become good permanently. You need to wake up every morning and choose to do the right thing. They need you. Both the living and the dead. Old Sport thinks he’s a funny fucker. As someone in the same shoes as him- well, without that evil spirit thing, but still- he sees his acting out and then doing a 180° as pretty hilarious. Like, sure, you go dude, reinvent yourself as this regretful somebody who wants to help, Old Sport gets it, he has done stuff like that too- but being all mopey and melancholic about it? Just move on! If you were in a loop, what does it matter? Reset and restart. You didn’t feel bad doing it, right? So why feel bad now? What’s the point? Genuine question. You did the deed, you committed the crime and that was okay. And then you stuck to that timeline. Sorry, not sorry, you have nobody to blame but yourself. And that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to move on and change and make peace, that’s totally fine, but the way Old Sport sees it from the outside, there’s a lot of misplaced guilt. This is a story, right? … … even if Old Sport doesn’t like, part of him feels jealous. Afton lacked control over his body, but at least he had a soul, right? At least he HAS a kind of personality and sense of self. He can make himself into a consistent character, unlike Old Sport who has to pick and choose and never knows what to do- In his opinion, Afton needs to get a grip and be less ungrateful for the things he actually DOES have. Save the kids, kill the kids, whatever, protect your sense of self… but then at least be satisfied with your choices that came out of that sense of self. Guilt is a choice. Either regret and act or don’t and stay back.

Five @ Five @adjovi
As a part of our author spotlight, we’ve asked each writer to highlight 5 fics and tell us a little about their experience writing (or reading) them.
1. Goodnight Moon
He felt a jolt go through him, with the intensity of a lightning strike. He jerked back, but the man held fast. He felt like his brain was splitting along the hemisphere. Everything was so fucking loud that it hurt. His legs felt weak, and he walked backwards, his knees hitting the coffee table and folding immediately into sitting. He was amazed the shitty particle board held his weight. All of it came crashing back at once, and he couldn’t stand the intensity. He began to weep involuntarily, rocked by the memories. ALL of it. His whole entire life. Growing up. His parents. Fillory. Julia. Brakebills. Magic was fucking real. Alice. Margo. Fuck. “Eliot.” His voice sounded like someone else’s, thick and slurred. He looked the monster full in the face. “What have you done with him?”
It smiled at him. The monster riding around in the Eliot meat suit. The eyes. That was what was so wrong. Fucking alien eyes. It smiled. “There you are.” Its voice was warm and full of affection. Quentin felt like he might vomit.
This was my putting my toe into a new fandom fic. Which—my last fandom was when Torchwood went off the air, so that was a long time ago. TBH, I really wasn’t even more than a casual viewer of the show up until S3, and then was like holy fuck. I didn’t even ship Q/El until this season, just knew that I wasn’t a fan of Q/Alice (sorry!), kind of agreeing with niffinAlice’s summation that their relationship had been a garbage fire. So, when the finale was coming to an end, I was like…holy shit! They are going to lean into Q/El! This never happens on shows that I love. Following swiftly with holy shit. Then, I got excited. Because I realized that it was going to be a slow and painful ride to get Eliot back. Also, Hale is going to kill it in this role, and Eliot is such a great choice because he is, IMHO, the emotional center of the show. Plus, if the monster gets all of Eliot’s memories, he’s going to have shitloads to pull from to torment Quentin with, and I am for it. Hence, this little fic was born. I wasn’t sure if I would stick around in the fandom, but I enjoyed writing this so much, that the fic ideas just started to flow.
2. The Long Way Around
“It matters because when you think I am not looking, you stare at me like I hung the fucking moon. The rest of the time, you avoid me because it seems like being around me causes you actual physical pain.” He took a deep drag from his cigarette, exhaling in a long plume. “And you say my name like it's a goddamn prayer.” He stared at Quentin, willing him to turn and face him, but Quentin continued his fastidious study of the ground. “So, the way I see it, we are either together in your timeline. Or, I am dead.” Quentin did look at him then, his eyes impossibly wide.
So, this was definitely a fic that was built around a bit of dialogue—the one above—that I wanted to center the fic around. Also, I am a sucker for stories where one character remembers and no one else does. I wanted it to be painful, and to force Q to be honest. The ending came to me when I was in the shower—I wanted something to anchor things to, and make it interesting. I tried writing this for Welter’s timeloops theme, but missed the deadline, but still liked the story enough to write and post it. Prompts are definitely my friend.
3. Situation Normal
“Oh, my God.” Eliot took a step back instinctually. They had been so wrong. About everything. He was wrestling with both shock and awe over the utter the depths of their stupidity. They had been told, over and over, that this Thing was feared by the Gods. The monster was ancient, and he realized dimly that they must look like mayflies by comparison. Their sheer arrogance that they could control It, they could win, was ultimately to be their downfall. He should have been used to losing by now, as apparently they were Wyle E. Coyote and the Universe was the fucking Roadrunner, and somehow they never, ever managed to see the anvil coming.
So, in my old Torchwood fandom, there was a challenge that was based on adapting the show around a movie—this could be a straight swap the characters out, or more subtle retelling of the show through the frame of a movie. My favorites were of the latter variety, and one of my very favorite fics to read coming out of that entire fandom was a Jaws/Torchwood crossover which never should have worked but was pretty much perfect. So, I wanted to try this myself. This was tough to plot out—didn’t want to reveal my hand too early on and keep people guessing. I literally sat in team meetings blocking out scenes and conversations in code. I was really happy with how this one came out, and want to try again with another movie. Please don’t tell my boss about that team meetings part.
4. The Zeppo
She wasn’t convinced. This meant something to him, she could tell. Nothing meant anything to him. He had been crushing hard on that geek since the moment he saw him, marking him as his target early and often. She actually couldn’t tell what Q had thought of that, he just seemed equally mortified pretty much anytime anyone aimed their attentions towards him. If she had been a betting woman, she would have put good money on Alice Quinn. That would have been delightfully awkward to observe and satisfying to tease. This? What was she supposed to do with this? It was absurd, she knew. But she hated not being in the know, even the tiniest bit, most especially when it came to Eliot, with whom she covetously and with great intent been entwined.
This was my first Margo POV, and I freaking loved it. She is so awesome, but there is something kind of mean girl from S1 but also super vulnerable when it comes to Eliot that I wanted to capture here. I also really loved writing about badass Margo who not only makes her own fun but kind of almost saves the day, with the help of the ladies. I really want to expand out the ladies winning everything in another fic, and also write more about Penny/Julia/Kady, which I never would have considered shipping before, so thank you S3 for my ot3.
5. Infinite Probabilities Ratios
Word of the Beast’s attack had spread quickly across campus, like the viral infection that it was. Eliot was completely shook. He made a hasty retreat to his room, unable to be around the others just now. He couldn’t look at their faces after seeing them all die, one by one, in horrific, albeit creatively different ways. He hadn’t realized there were so many means of eviscerating a person. He was currently staring at the Broadway poster of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” on his wall, absolutely certain it was supposed to be the original book cover of “The Naked Lunch”. He had grabbed a bottle of whiskey and two glasses on his way up, not at all surprised when Quentin knocked on his door a short while later.
OK. So, I am actually in the process of writing a fiction book right now, which is all kinds of crazy. But, I wanted to try out the premise of that story—which is that the main protagonist has the ability to shift the world slightly away from the center, forcing the other characters to be in this sideways world. The changes are very subtle, but because the protagonist is the one who essentially builds this other world, there are things that are wrong. I wanted to do that here, with the shift being done by the monster, who guesses what their world should look like, missing out on the subtleties—for example, whiskey tasting like Kool-aid, or assuming Eliot would have a Broadway poster versus a one of a semi-obscure book about drug addled wanderings. Stuff like that.

DuraOninininini!!Dear You, Chapter 1
(I'm very likely going to rename this, because the title probably isn't really the best(though the name is based from Higurashi's song “Dear You”). I just wanted something to separate it as an alternate version of Duraoninininini!)
Disclaimer: I don't own Durarara!, nor Heta Oni or Higurashi, which is what this inspired by, along with the original game Ao Oni(which this is based off of).
Warnings: Blood, past repeated character deaths, timeloops, timetravel, demons, and angst, and things of the such.
This will be Shincelty, and will end up as some light MikagexIzaya, so you have been warned.
Anyway,…
xoXoXoXoXox
This is a haunted story
A haunted love story.
And, well, all stories must begin somewhere and because of something, and this particular one began as a result of some overheard rumors about a haunted mansion.
Most people have heard of such stories, where either an unsuspecting group of people or a group of people that come to challenge the rumors, and others for both reasons, come to the house and, being parts of a horror story begin to notice oddities usually rather sooner than later.
But there was something different about this one mansion in particular; there were rumors that if you could locate the mansion and obtain the 'diary' of the former owner, you could become immortal if you defeated the spirit, which was said to reside there, at its own "game".
Those rumors, in the long run, were what had first led to six specific people standing outside of that very mansion.
The names of these six enigmas were known to the majority of Ikebukuro as-
Kyouhei Kadota.
Mikage Sharaku.
Izaya Orihara.
Shinra Kishitani.
And lastly, a dullahan which was actually named Celty Sturluson.
From what everybody there seemed to understand, Shinra had heard some rumors about the mansion and, not taking it that serious, thought it would be the ideal vacation for him and Celty on her day off, but had invited several others, some of which still had yet to show up. Most of them assumed that Shinra had also invited Izaya, who Mikage had chose to come with for reasons she preferred to not tell. But actually, it was because she felt a certain responsibility towards him as a 'bodyguard' or not. Whether she wanted to admit it or not, she would most likely feel at fault if he got himself into trouble and something bad happened to him. But, more importantly, this whole matter was suspicious to say the least. Children going missing? What kind of sick bastard was behind this? When she found out, she would be killing the one responsible, that much was for certain.
As they stood outside of the house, however, only a few of them looked to be interested in the place at the slightest.
"Wow! Who knew? The place is really here, after all!" Izaya chirped sarcastically.
"But it doesn't look that 'interesting' at all. It's probably rotting inside." Mikage deadpanned.
"Aww, don't be like that Mikage-chan." Izaya smirked. "You should try to be a little more sociable, you know."
Mikage chose to ignore him, and muttered out to anybody that happened to hear her. "Well, I'd prefer to just get this over with as soon as possible, so I'm going on in."
Celty, at an inhuman speed, typed a message in the PDA which Shinra had given to her as a gift; A PDA which she treasured more than anything, aside from Shinra, with everything she had.
[Shinra, I actually didn't quite believe you were telling the truth.] It said, before she began typing again.
[I had to see it for myself, because I thought this was just a rumor or a prank or something. But it's actually a real place, so you've earned a little bit of my trust.] Celty typed in her PDA and showed it to Shinra, who smiled like a giddy teen when he read it. He immediately tried to hug her.
"Is that so? Ah! That makes me so happy that you trust me a little more, Celty! But I would never lie to you about such a little thing! Although…when it comes to other things like keeping you by my side, I'd go to any lengths for you to stay with me. I'd even become a villia-UNgh!"
[Don't say such things like that so indiscreetly!] Celty cut him off, punching him in the stomach.
"Ouch! That's my honey Celty, but it really is the truth…"
Izaya watched as Shinra only slightly edged back, smiling exactly like he always did.
So happy.
So content.
So perfect.
But too damn innocent…
For a moment Shinra's eyes seemed to have briefly met his, before the informant quickly turned away. He then smiled to himself in bravado yet with a huge amount of apparent bitterness as well.
Kyouhei couldn't guess who this mansion belonged to, but there must have been somebody living there, right? Furthermore, if rumors of missing people and ghosts were surrounding it, there was a chance of there being at least a little truth to it, and, similarly(though unknowingly) to Mikage, he felt it was only right to get to the bottom of it in the case that there was something pretty dark going on here, after all.
Shinra and Celty entered the house behind Mikage.
Meanwhile, Izaya slowly made his way in, checking his phone for something, and Kadota only briefly had the chance to take notice of a far off and somewhat darker expression sitting on the informant's face, before the other man's trademark smirk returned and he sped up to walk toward the house.
"Oi, hold up. Are you okay?"
"Oh, Dotachin~ I didn't see you there~ I'm fine, but I'm not sure why you would ask humble me that~"
"…You bastard, are you plotting something?"
"Huh? You make it sound like I'm always up to something~"
"Well, it's true that you may not always be behind things, but you always have a tendency to at least slightly involve yourself in things when the possibility arises and use it for your own advantage. So I'm wondering what it is that you're here for. You were never the type of guy that would go to "haunted houses" for simple kicks, Izaya." Kyouhei expressed his thoughts without hesitation.
"Ah? You think so?" Izaya smirked.
"Well, you're right. You know me so well, ne Dotachin?"
Kyouhei scoffed his disagreement.
"Anyway, I'm here for several reasons," Izaya finally began to explain. "the main one naturally being to find out the truth behind the rumors of this place. I am an information dealer after all… Anyway, come on! It's not like there are any real ghosts in there, right?"
As he cheerily said that, he pulled Kyouhei alongside him toward the house.
"Hey, stop pulling me, and stop calling me that stupid nickname."
"Why? 'Kyouhei' is such a boring name compared to 'Dotachin'~"
"I don't care. It-" Kyouhei started to argue.
"really suits you, Do~tachin." Izaya teased, cutting him off.
"…Shut up. You're beginning to sound like Karisawa now." Kyouhei told him with a sigh. "What's with you and nicknames, anyway?"
Inside the mansion.
It was a lot larger on the inside than they had expected at first sight. However, as apposed to the outside, the walls appeared to be made of concrete.
The front door, though, was an odd and thick metal slide door, and there was only one barred window on each side of the room they were standing in.
"This looks more like some kind of jail house than a mansion…" Kyouhei stated his opinion.
"…"
Nobody could disagree. It was a very unsettling design. Even the floor appeared to be made of cement.
"Ah, it seems rather clean in here, doesn't it?" Izaya said, before glancing at Mikage.
"…It certainly isn't "rotting", is it, Mikage-chan...?" he smirked.
"I couldn't care less if it is or isn't. I'm not competing here."
"Man, you're no fun, you know that? I was just joking."
"It's not my fault you have a lame sense of 'fun'."
To be honest, not that Celty would say anything, she was getting very strange, yet extremely haunting vibes from this house. Could there really be ghosts there? Could that possibly be affecting everybody's mood?
No, ghosts don't exist. This has to just be me… Though if there are aliens-"
Suddenly, Mikage let out a gasp, reaching up to clutch her throat. It felt like her entire being was being weighed down by an unknown force.
[Are you okay?] Celty asked, out of concern.
"I don't... know. I feel like I'm being choked."
"It feels like we're being watched." Kadota stated grimly, before gazing off to the side.
CRASH.
Their conversation was cut short by a loud sound coming from another room, obviously down a nearby hallway.
"What the hell was that...?" Mikage muttered, glancing in the direction of the sound, his eyes slightly wide.
"It sounded like something shattered." Kyouhei noted aloud.
"How scary!" Izaya chirped, much to the present annoyance of Kyouhei and Celty.
"Celty, maybe there are ghosts or something here after all! You should stay beside me!" Shinra exclaimed in a way that was hard to decipher if it was a joke or not.
[Don't be ridiculous, Shinra! Ghosts don't exist. Anyway, I'm going to see what it was.] Celty told them, turning around to walk towards the room that the sound had came from.
"Ah, w-wait…" Shinra called, starting to reach out. "I want to come with you, Celty."
[No. You stay here, Shinra, I don't want you getting hurt.]
Shinra opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but decided against it, saying something else. "Okay, Celty… If you say so. Be careful, alright…?"
Celty stopped for a moment, holding out her PDA.
[I know. I'll be right back.]
After Celty left the room, Shinra turned to face the others with a smile. However, Shinra was even better than Izaya at faking a smile, so whether it was real or fake could be up for question.
"So, isn't this kind of nice?…" he suddenly mumbled, with an odd nostalgic look on his face.
Mikage scoffed.
"If by 'nice' you mean spending time with two idiots, then sure." she said dryly.
Shinra looked desperate. "That was kind of mean, Sharaku-san."
"It's not like you're actually feeling hurt."
"True enough, I guess." Shinra shrugged.
"Yeah, Shinra only cares about that headless woman after all. I bet he'd even let me die without a second thought if it were for her." Izaya remarked bitterly.
"You sound like you're jealous of her or something." Mikage muttered. Kyouhei didn't care to get involved in their conversation.
"I simply don't like sharing my best friend with that monster is all."
"That's pretty much the same thing as being jealous, isn't it?" Kyouhei thought. He opened his mouth to speak when-
"H, hey?!"
"Move over!" Mikage shouted, suddenly pulling him over, as a large, unidentified arm suddenly swiped at him. Kyouhei's eye widened when he looked behind him to see a giant stark-naked creature standing there. Mikage turned on her heel, high kicking hard to send it flying back a few feet, but overall, not doing much damage.
"What is that?!" Shinra exclaimed, backing up.
Oddly, Izaya didn't even seemed phased by the sight.
"I don't know, but maybe you guys should run, I'll distract it!" he suddenly told them.
Mikage looked back at him, in irritation. "Are you crazy?! There's no way in hell I'm going to just leave you to face that thing alo-"
Suddenly, it swiped her in the back, sending her flying into the wall. She fell to the floor, her breath knocked out of her.
Her kick had had next to no affect on the beast, so she would just have to kick a lot harder, right?
Wait, why was she shaking? It hurt to breath, so she might have broken a couple ribs in the crash. Looking up, she couldn't bring herself to move. As she gazed into the hollow eyes of the creature that was heading towards her, she felt as though her entire resolve was crumbling. She had to fight, but she couldn't find it in herself to move. That's when she realized that she was afraid. If it were a normal person she were facing, she wouldn't being hesitating to fight back, but this wasn't a human being at all. She was gazing into the eyes of a pure monster.
However, right as it was about to attack her a second time, Shinra threw a piece of broken glass at it.
"Over here!" Shinra encouraged, not seemingly phased at all by what he was doing. However, Izaya wouldn't have it.
"Are you an idiot?! You would stand even less of a chance against it than her, Shinra! Did you plan to stab it with a scalpel or something?!" Izaya snapped at him, almost mockingly, as he pushed Shinra out of the way and towards Kadota without a single ounce of hesitance.
"I-Izaya?!" Shinra exclaimed.
The creature lifted its arm to attack Izaya, but the informant gave a huge dark and bitter smirk, bouncing a bit away back toward the stairways to dodge it. "That's right. I'm your opponent now. So catch me if you can."
"Don't you fucking dare try to fight that thing on your own, Izaya. You can't beat it either!" Kyouhei shouted at him.
However, Izaya's eyes appeared to be glazed over as if he was now intensely focused on one goal only, where nobody's words could possibly get through to him at this point.
In an instant, he turned around, running upstairs, the thing following close behind him. A terrifying voice roared out to him, echoing throughout the room, "YoU WoN't EScApE," sending chills down most everybody's spine.
"Izaya...! That dumbass! I swear I'm going to kill him if that thing doesn't do the job first..." Mikage growled out, forcing herself to get up, despite the harsh pain it caused to move, as she quickly moved to make her way up the stairs. Izaya had been acting incredibly strange, so she was determined to get to the bottom of it, even if she had to drag the truth out of him. "Promises don't mean anything if you're dead!"
Moments later, before Kyouhei could say anything, Shinra too ran off in the same direction.
"Hey, wait a second!" Kyouhei shouted after them, before cursing. He knew he should stay behind to wait for Celty to get back, but Mikage was injured, so he had no choic but to follow after them.
A/N: Please tell me what you think?
