#random personal stuff #I get it everyone in church wants to fuss over the babies #who are very cute and I'm glad that they're loved! they should be! #but I'd like to put in a good word *also* for a group who tend to get overlooked and undervalued #and that's older kids #once you get past baby age in the church circles I'm familiar with #you are no longer an object of adoration and are now a nuisance a burden and a problem that needs to be suppressed and contained #parents will openly complain about them and heaven forbid anyone reach adolescence because then they're regarded as next-door to a monster #and not many people are really listening to older kids or thinking about what they might need as human beings #which is connection and knowing that people give a darn about them personally #and don't just see them as something to be 'kept busy' or as free labor/babysitting for younger nuisances #I have the most interesting conversations with these kids #they're bright and hilarious and passionate about all kinds of things #and they're dealing with more than most adults seem to realize or take seriously #I remember being that age very vividly and the adult whom I wanted to be around the most was my aunt whenever she visited #because she actually took the time to listen to me and put up my jawing about [current obsession] #probably took a lot of patience on her part but I appreciated it so much #it made me feel like I mattered #sometimes the kids at church will talk to me and I want to be for them the kind of adult my aunt was for me #they ARE worth listening to! #everybody at every stage of life is worth caring about

yay and hooray! I too am greatly enjoying this one — here we ask the important question of 'what if Richard Sharpe was a werewolf, and more importantly, what if his daughter was too?'

this fic started out as a joke about Sean Bean's more recent role in the (amazing) film Wolfwalkers, where he plays a single father having a great deal of trouble over his own role as a soldier as well as in raising a daughter who is a werewolf, and in pondering that, I started to goof around about the potential of something similar to the plot of Wolfwalkers as a potential sequel to 'Sharpe's Enemy' and the subsequent films. and then things got out of hand.

“I’ll not raise an Englishman’s bastard pup,” said the old man, his voice made cold with disdain, and shoved Sharpe’s daughter ungently into her father’s arms. Sharpe nearly fumbled the child, all unexpected tangle of paws and tail and mewling mouth that she was. But Harper had a hand under his, and bundled her back into her father’s arms, tucking in the blanket that she’d been wrapped in. “Teresa — Teresa showed me our Antonia. She didn’t—“ “Didn’t look more like a wolf-cub than a little girl half the time? That’s your blood in her, that I know.” Sharpe’s breath caught in his throat — it had been his own damned enemy that had taken Teresa from him, and it was in that same moment that he’d evidently doomed his daughter to the same fate as his own. “Go on, get back to your war. so it's a tale of having some kind of identity crisis about being a father and a widower and a werewolf all at once, and making that work out because he's really got no choice but to work through it (and also a tale of the Chosen Men being a strange little pack of sort-of-uncles and raising Antonia together!)

Honestly almost forgot how much I loved reading books. I love the unfathomable amount of joy they give me. I love the little stifled half squeal half scream of delight that blocks my throat for a few moments when a part of the book makes me particularly laugh or smile at a joke or wholesome moment. And when I have to try my best not to let it escape my mouth so I don't screech out loud seemingly out of nowhere like a little kid at a McDonald's playground playing tag.

#Out of curiosity I began reading “The true meaning of Smekday” and the “Smek for President” books and holy cow they're so much fun #Finished the first book in just one and a half or so days. And that's saying something #Haven't read anything that quickly and excitedly since early in middle school probably #Which is kind of sad in a way. If I think about it too much. #Just haven't had much of a drive to read something outside of classes due to time and a lack of interest overall #So so so glad this random rekindling of my interest in the DreamWorks Home stuff introduced me to these books. #They're just oozing with so much charm and wit it's overwhelming. Overwhelming In a good way. #If I ever find one of those books at a thrift/book store I'm snatching it up and basically throwing myself at the checkout counter. #Still working on the second book at the moment. Savoring it a little. #Trying to make it last a little longer and pace myself for once so I don't finish it all at once. #Sorry for rambling. hii i love reading your kpop asks it makes some things click in my head!! idk if you know them that well but do you have any opinions on verivery's dancing? i feel their dance line is pretty strong in the realm of idol dancers/choreo goes 😊 like for me there's something about hoyoung's dancing that's so pleasing to watch lol idk if it's his body control or lines but i think he balances out the rigid nature of idol choreo really nicely without losing the sharpness of the dance

hello! i am somewhat familiar with verivery although i don't follow them that closely. they do have a very strong performance line, although that isn't really enough nowadays to be a group's signature anymore. verivery falls into the same trap that a lot of fourth gen boy groups do, and that is that they haven't quite found a thing that makes stand out from the glut of other fourth gen bgs of the 7+ member variety. i think they're maybe getting a bit closer to establishing something with their cbs this year, which i've found to be the most compelling work they've done (other than photo from rtk), but obviously it depends on if they keep up that theme or not as they carry forward.

i do think hoyoung is one of their stronger dancers; he has pretty good control, but personally i don't think verivery's choreo generally is that interesting to me, so i don't usually have a particular draw to watching them.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough space to cover every single domestic animal (I’m so sorry, reindeer and koi, my beloveds) but I tried to include as many of the “major ones” as possible.

I made this chart in response to a lot of the misunderstandings I hear concerning domestic animals, so I hope it’s helpful!

Further information I didn’t have any room to add or expand on:

🐈 “Breed” and “species” are not synonyms! Breeds are specific to domesticated animals. A Bengal Tiger is a species of tiger. A Siamese is a breed of domestic cat.

🐀 Different colors are also not what makes a breed. A breed is determined by having genetics that are unique to that breed. So a “bluenose pitbull” is not a different breed from a “rednose pitbull”, but an American Pitbull Terrier is a different breed from an American Bully! Animals that have been domesticated for longer tend to have more seperate breeds as these differing genetics have had time to develop.

🐕 It takes hundreds of generations for an animal to become domesticated. While the “domesticated fox experiment” had interesting results, there were not enough generations involved for the foxes to become truly domesticated and their differences from wild foxes were more due to epigenetics (heritable traits that do not change the DNA sequence but rather activate or deactivate parts of it; owed to the specific circumstances of its parents’ behavior and environment.)

🐎 Wild animals that are raised in human care are not domesticated, but they can be considered “tamed.” This means that they still have all their wild instincts, but are less inclined to attack or be frightened of humans. A wild animal that lives in the wild but near human settlements and is less afraid of humans is considered “habituated.” Tamed and habituated animals are not any less dangerous than wild animals, and should still be treated with the same respect. Foxes, otters, raccoons, servals, caracals, bush babies, opossums, owls, monkeys, alligators, and other wild animals can be tamed or habituated, but they have not undergone hundreds of generations of domestication, so they are not domesticated animals.

🐄 Also, as seen above, these animals have all been domesticated for a reason, be it food, transport, pest control, or otherwise, at a time when less practical options existed. There is no benefit to domesticating other species in the modern day, so if you’ve got a hankering for keeping a wild animal as a pet, instead try to find the domestic equivalent of that wild animal! There are several dog breeds that look and behave like wolves or foxes, pigeons and chickens can make great pet birds and have hundreds of colorful fancy breeds, rats can be just as intelligent and social as a small monkey (and less expensive and dangerous to boot,) and ferrets are pretty darn close to minks and otters! There’s no need to keep a wolf in a house when our ancestors have already spent 20,000+ years to make them house-compatible.

🐖 This was stated in the infographic, but I feel like I must again reiterate that domestic animals do not belong in the wild, and often become invasive when feral. Their genetics have been specifically altered in such a way that they depend on humans for optimal health. We are their habitat. This is why you only really see feral pigeons in cities, and feral cats around settlements. They are specifically adapted to live with humans, so they stay even when unwanted. However, this does not mean they should live in a way that doesn’t put their health and comfort as a top priority! If we are their world, it is our duty to make it as good as possible. Please research any pet you get before bringing them home!
